, 85, of Barton, Vt., passed away in Glover on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005. She was born in Barton on Jan. 28, 1920, the daughter of Wallace C. Sr. and Eva (Govro) Russell. Arlene began teaching in 1938 and was the principal at the Barton Elementary School, retiring in 1984. She was a member of the Orleans County Northern Essex County Retired Teachers Association. She was a life member of the Parent Teachers Association, and a life member of the National and State Grange. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Orient Chapter 13, the Tuan Ti Christmas Club, the Barton United Church, and the NEK Horseman's Association through 2004. On July 6, 1949, Arlene married Norman Simons, who predeceased her in 1996. She is survived by her niece, Pat Russell of Barton; her nephews, Brian Russell and his wife Kim of Newport, and Kevin Russell and his wife Anita of Barton, and their families; and the family of Clayton Russell. She was predeceased by her brothers, Darrell and Wallace Jr.; her sisters, Madeline and Karlene; and by her nephew, Clayton Russell. Friends may call at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, Elm Street, Barton on Wednesday, Aug. 10, from 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Aug. 11, at the Barton United Church at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Joan Vincent officiating. Interment will follow at the North Cemetery in Barton. Nancy E. Hibshman

, of Lyndonville, Vt., died Tuesday morning, Aug. 9, 2005, at her home at the age of 57. She was born Jan. 10, 1948, in West Chester, Pa., a daughter of Richard and Marion (Harmer) Yerkes. Nancy was schooled and graduated from Westtown Friends School in West Chester, Pa. In 1969, her family moved to Lyndon. On Sept. 30, 1972, she married John G. Hibshman. For 28 years, they worked together at the Village Sport Shop in Lyndonville, where she enjoyed helping people with all their sporting needs. Nancy loved her family, laughter, sunshine and the strengths that she found in people. Survivors include her husband of 33 years, John Hibshman of Lyndonville; their two children and their families, Carrie and Peter Tomczyk and their daughter Avery of East Burke, and Christopher Hibshman and Beth Leach and their son Barrett C. Hibshman, also of East Burke; her father, Richard Yerkes of Lyndon; a sister, Jo-Ann Golden and her husband Larry of Lyndonville; a brother, Richard "Chip" Yerkes of Martha's Vineyard; a sister-in-law, Doreen Yerkes of East Burke; nieces; nephews; and her Village Sport Shop family. She was predeceased by her mother, Marion H. Yerkes. A celebration of Nancy's life is being planned for September, and will be announced in this newspaper at a later date. , 69, of 1875 Gilfillan Road, South Ryegate, Vt., died Tuesday evening, Aug. 9, 2005, at his residence after an extended battle with cancer. He was born in Burlington, Vt., on Nov. 19, 1935, son of Blanche Fisher Edebohls and Louis Edebohls. He was a graduate of Hardwick Academy in Hardwick, Vt., and also Lyndon State Teachers College. Doug was a school teacher in Townsend, Bradford and Waterbury, Vt., and then went to work with the special education department for the state of Vermont. He also worked for the Vermont Environmental Education Department. He was a former member of VEA; was an amateur photographer; a self-taught geologist; and loved family activities and trips. Doug and his wife Amalia (Homeister) Fisher moved to South Ryegate, Vt., 13 months ago after living in Berlin, Vt., for 30 years. Surviving relatives include his wife, Amalia; one son, Captain Mark and his wife Captain Jennifer Fisher, U.S. Army, Colorado Springs, Colo.; one daughter, Karen Dresser and her husband Steven, and a granddaughter, Bridget Dresser of North Brookfield, Mass.; one brother, Robert Edebohls, Hardwick, Vt.; one nephew; and several cousins. A calling hour and a brief memorial service will be held Sunday, Aug. 14, 2005, from 2-3 p.m., at the Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch St., Woodsville, NH. A graveside service will follow the calling hour in the Peacham Cemetery, Peacham, Vt., at 4 p.m. The Rev. Catherine Cook, pastor of the Ryegate Presbyterian Church, will officiate. , 75, of 14 Highland St., Whitefield, N.H., passed away at his residence Monday, Aug. 8. He was born in Berlin, N.H., son of Joseph and Vitaline (Robidoux) Grimard. He spent most of his lifetime in the Whitefield area, working for the State Highway Department, Groveton Paper Company, and finally as a self-employed handyman around town. He served in the U.S. Army, and was a member of the VFW, American Legion and the DAV. He is survived by two sons, Melvyn Grimard of Malden, Mass., and Patrick Grimard of Whitefield; a daughter, Martha Verret of Bethlehem, N.H.; four grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond Grimard of Nashua, N.H., and Robert Grimard of Whitefield; two sisters, Rita Altamouro of Houston, Texas, and Theresa Stevens of Concord, N.H. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the McIntyre School Hall, 14 Highland St., Whitefield, on Saturday, Aug. 13, from noon-2 p.m., with a memorial service to immediately follow. , 53, a resident of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., died Monday morning, Aug. 8, 2005, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington following a long illness. He was born in Oyster Bay, N.Y., on June 14, 1952, and was the son of Frank Pennucci and the late Susan (McLaughlin) Pennucci. He received his education in Bethpage, N.Y., and is a graduate of Bethpage High School. He resided previously in Lyndonville and Bennington, Vt. Joseph had been a machinist at St. Gobain in Hoosick Falls for the past 10 years. He enjoyed traveling, fine dining and good wine. In addition to his father, survivors include his four children, Jason Pennucci of Santa Monica, Calif., Annie Pennucci of Seattle, Wash., Joel Pennucci of Lyndonville, Vt., and Aly Pennucci of San Francisco, Calif. He leaves his brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Maryanne Pennucci of Syosset, N.Y.; and his sister and brother-in-law, Poncho and Mary Cioffi of Westbury, N.Y.; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. A Memorial service will be held Saturday morning, Aug. 13, 2005, at Pearsons Funeral Services, 70 Church St., Lyndonville, Vt., at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family.

, 83, of the Northeast Kingdom Mobile Home Park in Lyndonville, Vt., passed away at home Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005. Her two children survive her, Frances Coderre of Lyndonville, and Daniel J. Lane of St. Johnsbury Center; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel, in 1973. Her family will gather at the Sayles Funeral Home today at 11:30 a.m. for a prayer service led by Father Richard O'Donnell. Burial will be beside her husband Tuesday at St. Peters Cemetery in Danbury, Conn. , a resident of Miles Pond since 1951, passed away at Weeks Medical Center in Lancaster, N.H., Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005, at the age of 75. He was born in Victory, Vt., on Dec. 29, 1929, the son of Shirley and Doris (Harris) Lund. Wayne retired from Fairbanks Scales in St. Johnsbury in 1992, after 42 years with the company. A devout Christian, he worshipped at the Pleasant St. Baptist Church and was active in church affairs there. An accomplished woodworker, his family fondly remembers all the special toys and furniture he made for them. He loved having his hands in the soil and will be remembered for his amazing green thumb. He was a hunter and enjoyed ice fishing and fishing for trout in quiet brooks. He shared hikes up Miles Mountain with his family in all seasons; sometimes on a hunt and others for the pleasure of its beauty, always identifying plant and wildlife for them. He is survived by his wife, Betty, whom he married in 1988; four children, Joyce Marcotte and her husband Bud of Lyndonville, Dennis Lund and his wife Gail of Blue Field, W.Va., Robert Lund and his fianc?e Cindy Brown of Lunenburg, and Kathryn Hill and her husband James of Groton; Betty's son, John Duquette and his wife Darlene of Bradenton, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Alton Lund and his wife Pamela of West Burke; uncles; cousins, including Roscoe Lund and Bob Shores; brothers- and sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews. His sister, Ruby Priest, predeceased him July 30 of this year. Funeral services will be held in St. Johnsbury this Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Pleasant St. Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry McElhenney officiating. Burial will follow at the Grove Cemetery in East St. Johnsbury. , 97, of Burlington, Vt., formerly of Walden and Barre, died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005, at the Vermont Respite House in Williston. She was born June 16, 1908, in Peacham, the daughter of the late Harry E. and Mabel (Byron) Howe. She attended Peacham public schools. She was first married to Cornelius Ainsworth. He died in 1959. She later married Kenneth Walter Kittredge on April 18, 1965, in Walden. He died March 22, 1998. Gladys was employed at the Danville Greene Woodworking Shop in the late 1940s, and the Palmer Laundry and Dry Cleaning Service in St. Johnsbury for 14 years. She later worked at the Johnson Woolen Mills in Johnson. She was an 82-year member of the Walden United Methodist Church, as well as a past trustee and organist of that church. She enjoyed reading, gardening and reciting poetry. Survivors include two daughters, Florence Parks of Alamogordo, N.M., and Joyce Burke of Pittsburgh, Penn.; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two sons, Carroll Ainsworth in 1981, and Cornelius Ainsworth Jr. in 1954; and a great-grandson. To honor her request, there will be no visiting hours. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2005, at 2 p.m., in the Walden United Methodist Church with the Rev. Carol Borland, supervising church pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot in the Noyesville Cemetery in Walden.

, 94, of West Lunenburg Road, Lunenburg, Vt., died at her home Monday morning, Aug. 15, 2005. Jessie was born in Pawlet, Vt., on Jan. 8, 1911, the daughter of Albert and Alta (Jennings) Blowers. She was raised in East Poultney and Shaftsbury, Vt., until moving to Connecticut in 1941. There she resided in Hartford for many years and worked as a bookkeeper for Underwood of Hartford, Kelly Foods of Glastonbury, and First Nation Stores. She also operated her own dressmaking shop on Farmington Avenue, Hartford, and was well-known for making many dance recital costumes. She was also employed with Ensign & Bickford of Simsbury, Conn., and the Area Agency on Aging of St. Johnsbury. For the past 38 years she had resided in Lunenburg. She was a member of the Gilman Senior Citizens and loved knitting and crocheting. She enjoyed making hats and mittens. Family members include three sons, Barry Pritchard of St. Louis, Mo., Leonard Pritchard of Manchester, Conn., and Malcomb Pritchard of Central Village, Conn.; three daughters, Fannie Hall of Lunenburg, Virginia Linsley of North Branford, Conn., and Brenda Scata of Lunenburg; two sisters, Myrtie Bouplon of Shaftsbury, Vt., and Margaret Perkins of Florida; and 40 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and 19 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sons, Norman Pritchard (1980), and Roger Pritchard (2002); three daughters, Gail Pritchard (1963), Anitta Kearnes (1999), and Rosemary Perkins (1999); and a sister, Wilma Reynolds (2002). Visiting hours will be held Wednesday evening, Aug. 17, from 6-9 p.m., at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A funeral service will be held Thursday morning at 10 at the Lunenburg Methodist Church. , 28, of Staten Island, N.Y., passed away in New York City on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005, following a brief illness. She was born in Newport on June 5, 1977, the daughter of Craig and JoAnne (Pare) Ellam. Jennifer was a 1995 North Country Graduate and a 1999 Lyndon State College Graduate. While at Lyndon State she managed the Lyndon State hockey team for two years. Jennifer had a passion for teaching and taught elementary school at the Hillside School in Newport for three years and at the Learning Community Center in Jersey City, N.J., for three years. She also loved animals and enjoyed arts and crafts and snowmobiling. Jennifer is survived by her parents, Craig and JoAnne Ellam of Derby Line; her brother, Jeffrey Ellam of Derby; her fiance, Matthew Ecker of Staten Island, N.Y.; her grandparents, Leo and Jeannine Pare of Derby Line; her special cat, Timber; her special aunt, Carol Rosario of Hillsboro, N.H.; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, and many, many friends and colleagues. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Irwin and Beulah Ellam.
