, 80, a former resident of Great Neck, New York, and longtime resident of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, and Craftsbury Common, died May 31, 2005. A graduate of Queens College and Columbia University School of Social Work, Mrs. Bloch was a pioneer in the field of early intervention for preschool children. She implemented and administered one of the earliest and largest early childhood education programs in New York State, in Brentwood. After retirement she split her time between her summer home in Craftsbury Common and her winter home outside of Jacksonville, Florida. An avid reader, she conducted a book discussion group in Jacksonville and wrote memoirs describing her childhood and earlier years. She was a member of Congregation Ahavath Chesed in Jacksonville. Surviving are her loving husband of 61 years, Alvin; four children: Carol Bloch and her husband, Edward Schwartz, of Trumbull, Connecticut, Michael Bloch and his wife, Marie, of Longmont, Colorado, Sally Marzouk and her husband, Benjamin, of Great Neck, and Nancy Millholland and her husband, James, of Sarasota, Florida; and by six grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the family's home in Craftsbury Common on Thursday, June 23, at 3 p.m. All friends are invited to attend. , 90, of Orleans died peacefully June 7, 2005, at his home in Orleans with his children at his side. Mr. Austin was born December 20, 1914, in Orleans, a son of Arthur and Carolyn (Perry) Austin. In 1945 he married Phostine Miles, who predeceased him in 1989. He owned and operated Austin's Drug Store with his brother Warren. The store is now operated by his niece Ann. The store was started in 1905 by his father, Arthur. He held memberships with the Masonic Valley Lodge in Orleans for 60 years, where he held most of the offices, Order of the Eastern Star in Newport, the Lions Club in Orleans for over 50 years, and the Orleans School Board, where he was instrumental in establishing Lake Region Union High School. He was also a member of the Orleans Federated Church, where he assisted in fund-raising and helped oversee the construction of the new church. He enjoyed playing golf and bridge, gardening, and spending time with his family at their Long Pond camp in Westmore. He is survived by his children: Glenn Austin of Orleans, Gail Guillette and her husband, Louis, of Derby, Janet Young of Burlington, and James Austin and his wife, Chris, of Rochester, New York; by his grandchildren: Cara Benjamin and her husband, Harold II, of Holland, Alan Guillette and his wife, Chirstina, of Troy, Louis Guillette and his wife, Tracey, of West Charleston, Jerry Guillette and his wife, Madonna, of Newport, Ted Guillette and his wife, Amy, of Derby, Michelle Hall and her husband, Travis, of Brownington, and Roselle Iorillo and Tess Austin of Rochester; by five great-grandchildren; and by his brother Warren Austin and his wife, Lois, of Orleans. He was predeceased by a sister, Fran; and by brothers: Robert, Stanley, and Sidney. Funeral services were held June 13 at the Orleans Federated Church with Reverend Gerry Piper officiating. , 90, of South Walden died Thursday, June 9, 2005, at the family farm in South Walden. Mrs. Allen was born May 7, 1915, in Barton, a daughter of the late Archibald and Mary Jane (Gray) McDowell. She attended McIndoe Academy and Greensboro High School. On June 21, 1933, she married Harold Ernest Allen in Greensboro. They owned and operated a dairy farm in Greensboro for several years. In September 1945 they moved to South Walden where she assisted her husband on a newly purchased dairy farm. They operated the farm until 1970 when the farm was sold to their son, Reginald, and later to their daughter, Gail. Following retirement, she and her husband spent many winters in Frostproof, Florida. In 1985 they returned to South Walden full time to be close to family. She was a member of the Walden United Methodist Church. She enjoyed the time that she spent with her grandchildren, playing cards, crocheting, and flower gardening. Survivors include a son, Reginald H. Allen, and his wife, Pamela, of Craftsbury; a daughter, Gail Allen, of South Walden; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold, in 1996; by two brothers, Edwin McDowell and Thomas McDowell; and by four sisters: Edith Newland, Esther Chouinard, Nora Eastman, and Mariam Johnson. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 18, at 1 p.m., at Northern Vermont Funeral Home in Hardwick with the Reverend Ernest Machia of the Hope Community Church in South Walden officiating. , 82, a longtime resident of Derby Line, died peacefully and went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 13, 2005, at North Country Hospital in Newport. Mr. Wilson was born on July 7, 1922, in Derby Line, a son of Burns and Bessie (Monteith) Wilson. He worked for the University of Vermont and Fellows Gear Shaper in Springfield during the early years of his life. He was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge in Springfield. He was an avid reader, and he loved gardening and animals. He enjoyed summer visits from his sister and the lifelong companionship of his brother. He maintained long-lasting childhood friendships and thoroughly enjoyed the true friendships of Bruce and Mary Muir and family of Derby Line and the love of his family. He is survived by his brother Royce Wilson of Derby Line; by a sister, Joyce Wilson, of Denver, Colorado; by a niece, Lexie Rye, and family of South Burlington; by two nephews, Dale Wilson of Charlestown, New Hampshire, and Randy Bronson of Waterbury; and by a sister-in-law, Patricia Ruby Wilson, of Charlestown. He was predeceased by his parents; by a brother, Giles Wilson; and by a sister, Martha Bronson. , 53, of Manchester, New Hampshire, died June 16, 2005, at the Elliot Hospital. Ms. Urie was born in West Glover on May 7, 1952, and was a daughter of John and Yvonne (Diette) Urie. Prior to moving to Manchester 19 years ago, she lived in West Glover. She was educated in the Glover Community School system, and received her degree from Lyndonville State College. She was a teacher in Catholic schools for over 30 years, initially for 12 years at the Sacred Heart High School in Newport and most recently at St. Anthony's Elementary School in Manchester. In 2004 the graduating class of St. Anthony's dedicated its yearbook to her. She belonged to the bowling league at Lakeside Lanes and was a swimming instructor for the American Red Cross. She will be remembered for her love of her students, especially her nieces and nephews, and animals in general, in particular cats. Gardening and maintaining her flower beds were her passion. Family members include her father of West Glover; two sisters, Caroline Langmaid and her husband, Francis, of Island Pond and Bonnie Ingalls of West Glover; a brother, John R. Urie Jr., and his friend Ginny, of West Glover; a dear and loving friend, Annette Dube, of Manchester; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated June 20 in St. Anthony's Church. Burial was June 21 in Andersonville Cemetery in West Glover. Memorial donations may be made to the Gloria A. Yvette Poutre Rooney

, 83, died on June 13, 2005, in Newport surrounded by her family. Mrs. Rooney was born in Irasburg on April 28, 1922, a daughter of Henry and Antonia (Langevin) Poutre. She attended St. Paul's Convent in Barton and other local schools then went on to graduate from Wilfred's Academy of Business and Beauty Culture in Boston, Massachusetts. She married W. Thomas Rooney in 1950, and they resided in Newport throughout their lives. She was a caregiver to people in the community who were in need. She was known for her special dishes of homemade chicken and noodles and her incredible pies. She worked as a cosmetologist and seamstress and was employed at the Yankee Peddler store in Derby. She was active in Cub Scouts, volunteered for the North Country Hospital Auxiliary for some time, and performed hair care for elderly people in nursing homes. She is survived by her children: Catherine Peake and her husband, Larry, and Tom Rooney and his wife, Brenda, all of Newport, and Douglas Rooney and his wife, Grace Spatafora-Rooney, of Ferrisburg; by her grandchildren: Sara and Michael Kinerson of Johnson, Patrick and Daniel Rooney of Newport, and Olivia Grace Rooney of Ferrisburg; by sisters Martha Coburn of Florida and Rachel Leblanc of Orleans; by brothers-in-law Lawrence and John Rooney; by sisters-in-law Millie Rooney and Muriel Poutre; and by close and beloved nieces and nephews. She had a special relationship with her son-in-law Ted Kinerson. She was predeceased by her husband, W. Thomas Rooney; by brothers: Bob, Roland, and Maurice Poutre; and by sisters-in-law Betty and Lucille Poutre. George B. Rabe

, 74, died and left this earth to soar with the eagles on June 14, 2005, in the evening, with his wife and family by his side. Mr. Rabe was the beloved husband of Jean G. Rabe. Both lived in Craftsbury Common, where they had retired in 1994. He was born November 16, 1930, in New Rochelle, New York, a son of Alice Bessie and James Inslee Rabe. He attended schools in Mamaroneck, New York, before entering Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. A member of Theta Chi fraternity at college, he was awarded a bachelor of mechanical engineering in 1952. On May 28, 1955, he married Jean Evelyn Geisel at Trinity Episcopal Church in New Rochelle. They had just celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary, returning home from Europe on June 6. After college, he began his career at Sikorsky Helicopter in Bridgeport and Stratford, Connecticut, and then went to Piasecki Helicopter (now Boeing) in Morton, Pennsylvania. Then, after a short time at Hamilton Standard in Connecticut, he began the work he loved the most, working on and designing parts of the engine for the X-15 rocket-powered plane at Reaction Motors in Rockaway, New Jersey. The plane now hangs at the Air and Space Museum at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. In 1994, after more than 20 years, he retired from Foster Wheeler in Livingston, New Jersey, working in both the equipment and research divisions. At the time of his death he was consulting and designing tools under the name Raven Engineering. He was awarded 21 U.S. patents during his career, including rocket engine parts, tools for air heater repair, and a baby bottle. As a young man he raced sports cars for the SCCA at Sebring, where he co-drove one of the first Lotus cars to come into the country; he also drove at Watkins Glen and Bridgehampton. He built and flew his own Ultralight plane. He played ice hockey until just a few years ago, and he loved to ski - downhill, cross-country, and water - and play golf. He was a member of the Orleans Country Club. He had served as a trustee for the United Church of Craftsbury and was a member of the Order of Free and Accepted Masons, Craftsbury Lodge. He was also a member of the Mouses and Spouses, a charitable group of men and women in Orleans County. He has left behind his widow, four children, and nine grandchildren living in New Jersey: Cynthia Kurpiewski of Jefferson, her husband, Phillip, and their children Peter and Evelyn; Christopher Rabe of Ogdensburg, his wife, Kathleen, and their children Tyler, Benjamin, and Emily; Timothy Rabe of Andover, his wife, Karin, and their children Melissa and Steven; and Geoffrey Rabe of Sparta and his children Jordan and Matthew. He also leaves two younger brothers, James of Roseburg, Oregon, and Colin of Salem, Oregon. A memorial service was held in Sparta June 20 at the Goble Funeral Home with the Reverend Charles McNeil conducting. At a future date, a service will be held in Vermont. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be sent in Mr. Rabe's memory to the Raptor Center, Route 4, Quechee, Vermont 05059 to be used for the rehabilitation of injured birds of prey. He has donated his body to the Sharing Network at Hackensack Medical Center for tissue and bone transplant and for research to help others.

, 72, of Orleans died peacefully Tuesday, June 14, 2005, at Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton. Mrs. Lafoe was born on February 17, 1933, in Orleans, a daughter of Tom and Mabel (Lacoss) Crawshaw. On December 4, 1939, she married Wesley Lafoe, who predeceased her in 1966. She held memberships with the Lake Region Senior Center and the Orleans Mothers Club. She enjoyed reading, doing puzzles, and gardening. She loved receiving visits from her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed baking and passed on her cooking talents to the interested granddaughters. She also loved playing the piano and singing with her friend Ann Berrio. She is survived by her children: Carol Whittier of Coventry, Gary Lafoe of Orleans, Rick Lafoe of Newport, and Brian Lafoe and his wife, Judy, of Orleans and by her cherished 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Born in Whitefish, Montana, on March 5, 1938, Mrs. Kittredge was a daughter of William and Camilla (Krecklow) Johnson. She was predeceased by her husband Paul P. Kittredge, to whom she was married nearly 45 years. He died July 20, 2001. She worked at Ethan Allen Manufacturing in Orleans and was an accomplished master chair weaver there. She was a multitalented lady who loved gardening, refinishing furniture, doing ceramics, cooking, crocheting, collecting family genealogy, and just spending time with family and friends. She was a member of the United Church of Derby. She is survived by five children and 18 grandchildren - Lorna Gaylor and her husband, Mike, of Barton and their two children, Corinna and Lisa; Linda Lachance and her husband, Tom, of Lyndonville, her four children: Liane, Daniel, Raelyn, and Samantha and his three children: James, Eric, and Tim; Luella Kittredge of Puyallup, Washington, and her three children: Courtney, Meghan, and Jordan; Paul Kittredge Jr. and his wife, Sonya, of Albany and their two children, Benjamin and Matthew; and Deanna Simpson and her husband, Glenn, of Fernley, Nevada, and their four children: Patrick, Dalton, Dillon, and Rebecca. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren: Marilyn, Angela, Haley, and Allie; by one sister, Iola Winters, and her husband, Charles, of Missoula, Montana; by one brother, William Johnson, and his wife, CiCi, of Kalispell, Montana; by one sister-in-law, Leah Kittredge, of Beebe Plain; and by nieces and nephews. , 48, died at his home in West Glover on Sunday morning, June 26, 2005, following a battle with cancer. Mr. Kinsey was born in Hardwick on May 6, 1957, a son of Eunice Rowell Kinsey of Craftsbury and the late Robert E. Kinsey. He was a 1975 graduate of Craftsbury Academy and had attended Vermont Technical College, the University of Arizona, and the University of Vermont. He married Elizabeth R. Nelson and operated a dairy farm on the Andersonville Road in West Glover. He was a good husband to Liz, a good father to her sons, a good friend, and a good farmer. He also had worked as a carpenter and contractor. He enjoyed golfing and loved his family. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Nelson, of West Glover; by his mother, Eunice Kinsey of Craftsbury; by three sons: James Coe and his wife, Nella, and their children Isabella and Jude, Eric Coe and his daugher Rachel of Milton, and Jesse Coe and his wife, Mandy, and their children Gage and Samuel of Barton; by two brothers, Erwin Kinsey and his wife, Esther, of Arusha, Tanzania, and Earl Kinsey and his wife, Joanna, of South Albany; by three sisters: Jennie Stanger and her husband, John, of Dundee, Michigan, Emily Dearborn and her husband, Jeff, of Hyde Park, and Valerie Kinsey of Hardwick; by a sister-in-law, Margo Eastman, of Craftsbury; and by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. , 74, of Coventry died at the Bel-Aire Quality Care Nursing Center on Saturday, June 25, 2005, after a long battle with cancer. Mr. Roy was born on August 6, 1930, in Ste. Anne, New Brunswick, a son of Joseph Philippe and Alvine (Berube) Roy. As a boy, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating on the St. Johns River, woodworking, playing hockey, and figure skating. He made a skating rink for the enjoyment of the town. As a young adult he traveled throughout Canada before moving to Montréal, where he worked as a licensed detective. Because his father was an American, Mr. Roy was drafted into the United States Army. He was stationed at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, where he was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. He served 13 months in Korea. After an honorable discharge he moved to Hartford, Connecticut, where he met and married his wife. While living in Connecticut he was an interior decorator. He had lived in Atkinson and Plastow, New Hampshire, but he spent most of his life in Waltham, Marlboro, and Haverhill, Massachusetts, where he owned his own service stations. He was later employed at Phillips Andover Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, prior to retiring to Vermont in 1987. He was a lifetime member of Amvets Post No. 147 in Haverhill and a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 798 in Newport. He enjoyed fishing and hunting as an adult as well. He was an avid artist and particularly enjoyed carving old sailing ships and flowers and landscapes on large pine slabs, some of which were turned into coffee tables. He enjoyed doing oil paintings, particularly beach and ocean scenes. He enjoyed building ships in five-gallon water bottles. He was interested in the study of weather and astronomy. He enjoyed gazing at the stars year-round. He enjoyed the family cat, Tom. He loved the ocean and spending time at Old Orchard Beach, Maine, and Hampton Beach, New Hampshire. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Rosemarie; his daughter Robin Smith and her husband, Reginald, of Derby; grandchildren Reginald Charles Smith Jr. of Castleton and Dustin of Derby; his son Christopher of Coventry; several in-laws and nieces and nephews; his twin brother, Albert, and his wife, Anita, of New Brunswick; and his brother Raymond of Raymond, Quebec. He was predeceased by brothers Oneil and Omer; by his parents; and by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins in New Brunswick. A graveside service was held June 28 at the Coventry Cemetery with the Reverend Robert Castle officiating. of Derby died June 25, 2005, at home. Mrs. Conley was born in Charleston in 1925. She graduated from Lyndon Normal School and taught in Coventry, Newport Center, and Newport City schools. She was involved in the antique business and in the family business, Conley Country Real Estate. Playing bridge, gardening, and family were most important to her. She was survived by her son Michael and his partner, Dr. Glen Elder, of Derby and Burlington; by her daughter Jackie Young and her husband, Ken, of Derby; by her grandchildren: Amanda Conley of Burlington, Jonathan Young of Telluride, Colorado, and Christopher Young and his wife, Meredith of Jay; and by great-grandchildren McAllister and Jackson Young of Jay. John "George" Letrick

, 87, of Island Pond died in Barton on Monday, June 20, 2005. Mr. Letrick was born in Osceola Mills, Pennsylvania, on April 12, 1918, a son of Andrew and Catherine (Frank) Letrick. He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. At 16 years of age, he worked in the coal mines in Pennsylvania. He then worked as a foreman for Bower Bearing Company in Detroit, Michigan. He was also a semi-pro boxer, known as "Young Letrick." He was also known by his CB handle "Squeeky Moccasin." He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Island Pond, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Island Pond Random Post No. 2309, and a member of American Legion Island Pond Post No. 80. He was very proud of his service time and of being a member of the Legion and VFW. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and he especially loved to hunt elk out West. On February 12, 1972, he married Ann Carbonneau, who survives him. He is also survived by his stepchildren Patricia Pelletier of Newburgh, Indiana, and William Pelletier and his wife, Beverly, of Ann Arbor, Michigan; by his stepgrandchildren: Janet, David, Aimee, Adriana, and Breea; and by his stepgreat-grandchildren, Zachariah and Ansel. He was the father and grandfather figure to these children in every way. He was predeceased by his brothers Emil and Albert. A memorial service will be held at a later date. , 67, of Derby died in Burlington on Tuesday, June 21, 2005. Mr. LaMadeleine was born in West Glover on August 25, 1937, a son of Camille and Edna (Collette) LaMadeleine. He served in the U.S. Army and worked for 32 years at Ethan Allen. He was a member of American Legion Orleans Post No. 23. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, maple sugaring, and carpentry, and loved his dog Princess. On July 21, 1980, he married Darlene Sylvester, who survives him. , 71, of Coventry died in Burlington on Sunday, June 26, 2005. Mr. Jewer was born in Medford, Massachusetts, on May 18, 1934, a son of Harold J. and Mary (MacQuarrie) Jewer. He worked in security in Massachusetts. He was a 28-year member of the Elks Lodge in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. He moved to Vermont ten years ago to be closer to his family. He loved to fish, play pool, and play cards, and he loved the ocean. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Chelmsford, Massachusetts; by his children: Betty Tinker and her husband, Bernie, of Derby, Lester Jewer Jr. and his wife, Donna, of Irasburg, Kevin Jewer and his fiancée, Lisa Hancock, of Newport, and Kim Gray and her husband, Todd, of Albany; by his brother Robert Jewer and his wife, Gloria, of Tewksbury; by his sisters Barbara Jenson and her husband, Carl, and Shirley Guthrie and her husband, Paul, all of Tewksbury; by numerous grandchildren; by eight great-grandchildren; and by his former wife and friend Barbara Carroll of Beebe. He was predeceased by his daughter Karen; by his brother James; and by his sister Elizabeth Jenson. , 83, a lifelong resident of Greensboro, died Monday, June 27, 2005, on the family farm in Greensboro Bend. Mr. Hill was born February 24, 1922, in Greensboro, a son of the late Abner and Mary (Dennison) Hill. He attended Greensboro public schools and graduated from Greensboro High School in 1940. On August 1, 1949, he married Marilyn Etta Weeks in Hardwick. In his earlier years he worked as a farmhand. In 1955 he purchased a dairy farm in Greensboro Bend where he farmed for more than 50 years. He never retired. He was a member of the Greensboro Bend United Methodist Church. He had a pilot's license. He loved flying, his family, his farm animals, and especially his dog Little Dude. Other enjoyments included hunting and flower gardening. He is survived by two sons, Charles "Chuck" Hill and Thomas Hill, both of Greensboro Bend; three daughters: Deborah Willey and Sarah Bellavance, both of Greensboro Bend, and Susan Hill of Stannard; by 13 grandchildren; by seven great-grandchildren; and by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Marilyn, in 1993; by five brothers: George, Everett, Earl, Foster, and Edward Hill; and by five sisters: Anna Markson, Clara Stanley, Gladys Hill, Dorothy Dawson, and Florence McKay. There will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 30, at 11 a.m., in the Stannard Cemetery with the Reverend Ernest Machia of the Hope Community Church in Walden officiating. , 76, of Newport died peacefully June 26, 2005, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Gleason was born March 13, 1929, in Barton, a son of Olin and Laura (Gugere) Gleason. He married Hilda Hart, who survives him. He was employed for many years by the city of Newport where he was an equipment operator. He was a veteran of World War II. He liked going to his camp in Holland, and he was known to spend much time there hunting and fishing and enjoying the outdoors. He enjoyed family members stopping at his home to say hi. He was a past member of the Newport Fire Department. He is survived by his wife, Hilda, of Newport; by children: Marsha Descheneau and her husband, Bob, of West Charleston, Linda Atherton and her husband, Larry, of Newport, Sandra Deslandes and her husband, Michael, of Newport, and Raymond Gleason and his wife, Lise, of Raymond, Maine; by grandchildren: Bobbi-Jo and Aaron Waterman of Derby, Jason Atherton and his fiancée, Sherrine Camley, of Newport, Christopher Deslandes of Waterville, Maine, Tyleigh Deslandes of Newport, and Jennifer and Michael Gleason of Raymond, Maine; by a great-grandchild, Chance Kelley, of Newport; by a brother, Lawrence Gleason, and his wife, Elaine, of Barre; and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers and three sisters. Funeral services were held June 28 at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Memorial Chapel in Newport with the Reverend Paul Prince officiating. Dale Merton Conley

of Derby died June 24, 2005, in Newport. Mr. Conley was born in Westmore in 1918. He was a veteran of World War II, serving for two years in the island-hopping campaigns in the Pacific. He attended University of Vermont, where he was active in Cakewalk productions, graduating in 1947. His first teaching job was in Woodstock. In 1950 he brought his family to Derby, where he taught at Derby Academy. While teaching, he also ran a dairy farm and started a real estate and insurance business. After retiring from teaching, he worked full time in the business, Conley Country Real Estate and Insurance. He held offices in the Elks and the Lions clubs and was a Shriner. He was survived by his wife, Lorraine (Taplin) Conley, of Derby who died June 25, 2005. He is survived by his son Michael and his partner, Dr. Glen Elder, of Derby and Burlington; by his daughter Jackie Young and her husband, Ken, of Derby; by his grandchildren: Amanda Conley of Burlington, Jonathan Young of Telluride, Colorado, and Christopher Young and his wife, Meredith, of Jay; and by great-grandchildren McAllister and Jackson Young of Jay. He was predeceased by a son, Jon, in 1975. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. , 45, of Newport died at his home on Monday, June 21, 2005. Mr. Billings was born in Gunnison, Colorado, on November 2, 1959, a son of Edward A. and Grace A. (Dresser) Billings. , 45, of Keene, New Hampshire, died June 16, 2005, at her home after a brief illness. Ms. Atherton was born in Burlington on February 17, 1960, a daughter of Kenneth L. Atherton and Myrtle M. (Reil) Atherton. She lived in Craftsbury before moving to the Keene area 20 years ago. She received an associate's degree from Keene State College, and at the time of her death had worked at the college for 15 years as an administrative secretary. She was a volunteer for many nonprofit organizations throughout the area, especially those benefiting women. She compiled a cookbook and worked with foreign exchange students at Keene State College. Survivors include two sons, Travis J. Atherton of Keene and Casey J. Cumings of Deerfield, New Hampshire; a daughter, Abigail L. Cumings, of Keene; a granddaughter, Cheyanne L. Atherton, of Keene; two brothers, Kenneth Atherton and his wife, Susan, of Craftsbury and Larry Atherton and his wife, Linda, of Newport; a sister, Shirley Nelson, and her husband, Donald, of Albany; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; and by a brother, Woodrow. A memorial service was held at Foley Funeral Home in Keene on June 21. Burial will be held at the Branch Cemetery in Craftsbury at the convenience of the family.
