, 83, longtime resident of St. Johnsbury, most recently of Williston, died March 12, 2005, at Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington, Vt. She was born in Johnson, Vt., on Nov. 2, 1921, the daughter of Fred and Rhoda (Adams) Sears. As an RN she worked at Brightlook Hospital in St. Johnsbury for many years in the OR department. She later worked for Dr. Michael Billig, chiropractor, in St. Johnsbury. Mary loved sports, especially baseball, jigsaw puzzles, and was an active volunteer in the office at Whitney Homestead in Williston where she had lived since 1990. On Feb. 24, 1945, she married Raymond A. Lowrey, who predeceased her Oct. 6, 1995. Survivors include a son and his wife, Richard L. and Susan Lowrey Sr. of Shelburne; a granddaughter, Melissa Lowrey of Colchester; a grandson and his wife Richard L. and Jill Lowrey Jr. of Charlotte; two great-grandchildren, Richard Lowrey III, and Maerick; a brother-in-law, William Barrett of Lyndonville; two sisters-in-law, Stella Sears Tessier of St. Albans and Christine Ranney of Windsor Locks, Conn.; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Raymond Lowrey; a brother, Fred; two sisters, Marilyn Perkins and Audrey Perrotto; a brother-in-law, Robert "Bob" Lowrey; and a sister-in-law, Alberta Barrett. The family of Mary wishes to thank friends, neighbors and the staff of the Whitney Homestead for all the love and kindness shown to her. A special thanks to the Meals on Wheels program. A memorial service will be held at the Grace United Methodist Church, St. Johnsbury, on Saturday, March 19, 2005, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. John Marshall officiating. James "Jimmy" L. Deth

, 44, a Passumpsic resident, died Saturday, March 12, 2005, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston. Jimmy was born May 10, 1960, in St. Johnsbury, the son of Kenneth F. and Elaine E. (Smith) Deth. Jimmy was a jack of all trades. However he especially enjoyed being in the woods logging. He married Fayette A. Marcy nearly four years ago. He enjoyed hunting, auto mechanics and was a volunteer fireman at the East Haven Fire Department. He is survived by his loving wife, Fayette, of Passumpsic; their children, Mr. and Mrs. Eric Marcy of Morgan, Tommy Stone of St. Johnsbury, Tina Liberatore and her husband Billy of Barton, Junior Shute and his wife Mandy of Sheffield; 14 grandchildren, one great-grandson, his mother, Elaine, a special aunt that Jimmy referred to as his "second mom," Nessa Smith, and a very special nephew, Rupert Lee Deth, all of East Haven; brothers and sisters, David and Beverly Deth of East Haven, Kenneth and Jane Deth Jr. of West Burke, Rupert and Lori Deth of Sutton, Raymond and Ruth Deth of Burke, Walter and Shirley Deth of Derby, Jeanette and Russell Poor of Massachusetts, Dorothy Bingham of Island Pond, and Roberta Hinton of Lyndonville; and numerous nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his father; and a brother, Albert. A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 17, at 2 p.m., at the Pearsons Funeral Home Chapel, located at 70 Church St., Lyndonville, with the Rev. Barbara Dwyer, officiant. Visiting hours will be Wednesday evening between the hours of 6-8 p.m., also at the funeral home. Interment will be in May at the East Haven Cemetery. , 81, of 130 Plain Road, West Dummer, N.H., passed away on March 13, 2005, at Weeks Medical Center in Lancaster, N.H. He was born Jan. 3, 1924, in West Dummer, N.H., the son of Eldin H. and Saloma (Leighton) Howland, and was a lifelong resident. He was a member of the West Milan United Methodist Church. He is survived by two sisters, Irene Howland of Country Village Center in Lancaster, N.H., and Mrs. Ernestine Comeau of Lyndonville, Vt.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers, Melvin, Alvin, Kermit, Jesse and Paul Howland. Calling hours will be held at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Ave., Berlin, N.H., on Thursday, March 17, from 4-7 p.m. Graveside services will be held in the spring at the Sand Hill Cemetery in West Dummer, N.H., at a date and time to be announced. Stanley M. "Pat" Davis

, 88, a longtime Lyndonville resident, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital following a brief illness. Stanley was born in Derby Line, Vt., May 3, 1916, the son of Homer N. and Mamie (Tyler) Davis. He worked for many years in the heat treat department at Vermont Tap & Die Co., retiring in 1981. He married Ruby Ethel Morse on Jan. 23, 1971, in Lyndonville. He served in the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II, was a member of the American Legion Post 30 for over 60 years and was an avid Red Sox fan. He loved big band music and enjoyed dancing to it. Stanley was most considerate of others, wherever he lived he would take upon himself the tasks of lawn maintenance, snow removal or whatever needed to be done. He was a great friend to many people, cheering up their day as he would exercise and walk the Lyndonville loop daily. Stanley is survived by a son, Patrick Davis and his wife Martha of St. Johnsbury; a stepson, Richard Davis and his wife Sandra of East Haven; two grandchildren, Tyler and Ford Davis; and numerous nieces, nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife; two sisters, Goldie Simpson and Natalie Boulrisse; and two brothers, Gardner and Bill. Memorial contributions may be sent in Stanley's name to Caledonia Home Health Care, P.O. Box 383, St. Johnsbury, VT 05819. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 19, at 1 p.m., at the Pearsons Funeral Home Chapel, 70 Church St., Lyndonville. Interment will be in the spring in the Lyndon Center Cemetery.

, 65, of North Danville, died suddenly Thursday, March 17, 2005, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital. She was born in St. Johnsbury, Nov. 11, 1939, the daughter of Harold E. and Mary (Sutton) Dresser Sr. Helena attended schools in Danville and graduated from Danville High School in 1957. On June 5, 1958, she married Leonard G. Carson, who survives her in North Danville. Helena was active in North Danville Community Club, North Danville Ladies Aid and worked on the Fourth of July church dinners. She enjoyed baking, knitting and spending time with all her grandchildren; Helena was mother to many neighborhood children in North Danville. Other survivors include three daughters, Roxanne and her husband Bud Courser of Lyndonville, Janet Carson and John of Danville, and Ellen Carson and Ozzie of Highgate, Vt.; a brother, Harold "Bub" Dresser Jr. and his wife Nancy of Lyndonville; a sister, Pauline "Polly" and her husband Pat Patterson of North Danville; grandchildren, Casey, Brett, Asa and Jack of Danville, Meredith and Emily of Bolton, Vt., Megan of Highgate, and Travis of Lyndonville. She was predeceased by a son, Roland L. Carson, Oct. 23, 1983; and her sister, Luella and her husband Vernon Webster. Funeral services will be held at the North Danville Baptist Church, Sunday, March 20, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Donald M. Thomas officiating. Spring burial will be in Danville Green Cemetery. , 86, of Irasburg, beloved wife and mother, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, March 16, 2005. She was born in Brownington on Jan. 4, 1919, the daughter of Fred and Leafy (Queor) Lacoss. Marion played the fiddle, the accordion and the organ. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, crocheting, and her cats and birds. On Nov. 3, 1941, Marion married Norman Dion, who survives her. She is also survived by her children, Ronald Dion and his wife Martha of Huntsville, Ala., Dennis Dion and his wife Denise of Florida, Wayne Dion and his wife Jennie of Irasburg, Clare Dion of North Concord, Clarice Boutin and her husband Roland of Tucson, Ariz., Linda Chagnon and her husband Pete of Burlington, Alan Dion and his wife Catherine of Albany, David Dion and his wife Anita of Irasburg, and Charles Dion of Coventry; 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters. Marion was a kind-hearted, loving, and totally devoted mother and grandmother to her family. , 75, of Waverly, N.Y., passed away Saturday, March 12, 2005, at the Tioga Nursing Facility in Waverly. Born Feb. 23, 1930, in Lyndonville, Vt., he was the son of the late Edith Vancour and Ernest Leonard. Ernest was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. He attended Blessed Trinity Parish St. James Church in Waverly. Ernest was also a member of several associations and groups in Vermont: VFW, American Legion, Elks and the Loyal Order of Moose. He enjoyed fishing and camping, loved dogs, bowling and especially loved the casino trips he and David took. Ernest is survived by his children, David and Tamora Leonard of Waverly, Ruth and Victor Purtell of Waverly, N.Y. and Diane and David Dragoo of Waverly, N.Y.; his brothers and sisters, Alberta Davis, Floyd and Barbara Leonard, Reginald Leonard, Cecil Leonard and Norman and Audrey Leonard, all of Vermont; 12 grandchildren, Danielle, Clayton, Travis, Laura, Douglas, Kevin, Stephanie, Darren, Ashley, Clarissa, Mariah and Patrick; 11 great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Matthew and Patricia Forman of Tennessee and Heather Lee of Waverly; sister-in-law, Edna Leonard; former wife, Ramona Forman of Waverly; special friend Doris Whitcher of Vermont; and many loving friends from the valley and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers, Roy, Howard and Mertin; sister, Beverly; sisters-in-law, Edie, Francis and Helen; and brother-in-law, Henry. At Ernest's request there will be no services. of 26 Russell Ave. in St. Johnsbury died Friday, March 18, 2005, at the VA Hospital in White River Jct., Vt., with his family by his side. He was 82. He was born in New Haven, Conn., on June 30, 1922, and was one of six children born to Marco and Teresa (Dimaio) Palmieri. He was married to his dear wife, Charlotte (Page) Palmieri, for 52 years; she passed away June 9, 1995. His oldest son, Richard, also predeceased him; he died Oct. 24, 1996. Marco became the patriarch of his large Italian family. He is survived by four children: Gary Palmieri and his wife Mary Ellen of Mansfield, Mass. (2 Pinto Way 02048), Joe Palmieri and his wife Susan of Lyndonville (244 Calista Ave. 05851), Mark Palmieri and his wife Carol of Waterford (1419 US Route 2B, St. Johnsbury 05819), Vanessa Palmieri of Irasburg (558 Moulton Road, Orleans 05860); 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one brother: Joseph Palmieri of New Haven, Conn.; two sisters: Madeline Zullo of New Haven, Conn., Angelina Davis and her husband Jack of Littleton, Colo.; two brothers-in-law: Kenneth Page and Myron Grover, both of Eddington, Maine; two sisters-in-law: Clara Palmieri of New Haven, Conn., and Blanche Palmieri of Tampa, Fla.; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Nick and George. During World War II he served in the Army Air Corps and had been a member of the American Legion Post 58. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church and Sheridan Chapter 421 Knights of Columbus. Marco was a retired accountant from Fairbanks. When able he enjoyed golf at the St. Johnsbury Country Club on men's nights and with the Saturday morning Fairbanks group. He was overjoyed to have gotten a hole-in-one on the third hole. The Loyal Order of Moose meant a great deal to Marco. He was a member of Lodge 1779 in St. Johnsbury and rose to the degree of Pilgrim, the highest degree in the Loyal Order of Moose. In 1996-1997 he served as president of the Northeast Moose Association covering Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. A funeral Mass will be celebrated this Monday at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church on Main Street in St. Johnsbury. He will be buried with military honors in May beside his wife at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held at the Sayles Funeral Home, Sunday from 5-8 p.m. Memorial contributions could be directed to The Good Shepherd Foundation, P.O. , 92, went to be with the Lord early Sunday morning, March 20, 2005, at St. Johnsbury Health and Rehab. He was born in Springfield, Mass., May 1, 1912, the son of John and Mary (Scully) Maley. Frank worked in Hartford, Conn., as a radio engineer; in 1960 he moved to Vermont working for radio station WDEV and for WTWN. He was an avid reader, loved to play tennis and was an amateur radio operator known around the world as WIGZH. Survivors include his loving wife of 31 years, Eleanora (Pearce) Maley; three stepchildren, Sylvia and her husband Lee Houghton of St. Johnsbury and their children Kristi Houghton of Sadieville, Ky., and Nikki Houghton of Madisonville, Ky.; Diane and her husband Gene LaFlam and their children Paula and her husband Etienne Debaudringhien, Bruce and his wife Melissa Labounty and family Kyle and Ian Labounty, all of Guilford, Vt.; and Richard Pearce, also of Guilford. Services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no visiting hours.
