Eunice P. Barnett
....show , 83, of Woodbury Drive, died at her home Sunday May 29, 2004.
Mrs. Barnett was born in Danville, VT, on July 14, 1921, the daughter of Ernest and Carrie (Porter) Kittridge.
From the time she was a teenager to a few months before her death Eunice was a hard worker. She was employed in many capacities but was primarily a cook most of her life. She operated several restaurants throughout the North Country in both Vermont and New Hampshire. She also worked for a time at the Gilman Paper Company and was recently employed at the Gilman Senior Center. There she also cooked and worked in the boutique. She was always helping those who were down and out and she loved cats.
Family members include two daughters Priscilla Shufelt of Groveton, Emily Heathe of Lisbon; a son Richard I. Spencer of East Concord; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Earl Barnett in 1982 and two brothers, Oakley Kittridge, Raymond Kittridge, and a sister Florence Burns.
At Eunice's request there are no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held Wednesday afternoon, June 1, at 1:00 PM in the Cushman Cemetery, Dalton. Rev. Henry E. Cheney will officiate.

Francis J. Dineen
....show , 62, of Windy Knoll Road, died Wednesday morning May 25, 2005, at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster, after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Dineen was born in Somerville, MA, on December 3, 1942, the son of Patrick and Anne (McLoughlin) Dineen.
Frank was raised in Somerville and was a 1959 graduate of Malden Catholic High School. For a time he attended St. John's Seminary, Boston, MA, and went on to graduate with honors from Boston College. Starting his career as an accountant he worked in the Boston area for Arthur Anderson, TJ Flately, Cabot Cabot & Forbes, and REIT. In 1974 he moved to New Hampshire and purchased an existing accounting practice in Lancaster. Eventually the business took his name of Francis J. Dineen & Co. and he built it into a very successful practice. Frank retired but the firm continues today as Dineen & Crane PLLC.
Frank travelling and has been around the world to countries such as Ireland, Italy and Mexico. He also traveled the US extensively with his family and has been to many states including Alaska.
Family members include his wife Deborah A. (Simonds) Dineen of Jefferson; a son Scott F. Dineen of San Francisco; a daughter Shauna Dineen of Norwalk, CT; a brother Charles Dineen of South Weymouth, MA; four sisters, Anne Dineen of Arlington, MA, Mary Harshany of North Reading, MA, Joan Hurynowicz of Burlington, MA, and Pauline Dineen of North Reading, MA. Richard E. McVetty
....show , 69, of Route 102, died early Monday morning at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH after a brief illness.
Mr. McVetty was born in Lancaster on June 23, 1935, the son or Erwin M. and Lora (Sweet) McVetty. He was a lifelong resident of Maidstone and was retired from the Paper Mill in Groveton where he had worked for many years.
He was a 37-year member and Past Master of Benton Lodge #88 F&AM of Guildhall and belonged to the Connecticut Valley Sno Riders snowmobile club.
Family members include his wife Geraldine F. (Gallant) McVetty of Maidstone; one son Bradley L. McVetty and one daughter, Valerie M. Foy both of Maidstone; four grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday evening from 7-9 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A Masonic Service will be held at funeral home at 8PM. The funeral will be held Thursday at 2PM in the Guildhall Community Church with Rev. Lawrence Clough officiating. Burial will be in Ridgwell Cemetery, Guildhall at a later date.

Jon Joseph Labrecque
....show , 63, peacefully passed away May 19, 2005, in Boynton Beach, Florida after a massive stroke.
Mr. Lebrecque was born in Milan, NH, on November 7, 1941, the son of Joseph J. and Roma M. (Potter) Labrecque.
He was raised in Milan, attended schools there and was a 1959 graduate of Berlin High School. On September 28, 1963 he married Bonnie Oleson and later moved to Lancaster. He has been a longtime resident of Lancaster and has spent the last two winters in Briny Breezes, Florida.
Jon was an avid gardener, hunter and fisherman. He was a former volunteer fireman for the Lancaster Fire Department and past member of the Lancaster JayCee's and honorary lifetime member of the Snowdrifters, working on the original Lancaster Grand Prix. As a snowbird in Briny Breezes, FL Jon was a member of the Briny Breezes Chislers, Cabaret & Briney Cooks club. There he participated in many charitable activities including the Briny Cooks and Charity Bizzar.
Jon is survived by his wife of 42 years, Bonnie O. Labrecque; two daughters, Beth Ann and husband Philip Morris of Lancaster, Sandra Morris of Lancaster; seven grandchildren, Britini, Jon, Allie, Mike, Paula, Tom and Philie and numerous great grand children; a sister Sandra, and her husband Richard Gagne of Berlin; four nephews and their families; a sister in law Mary Steudle of Jefferson, and her family; and by the son he never had Michael Labounty of Lancaster. Jon was blessed with many friends as far north as Cape Bretton Island, Nova Scotia and as far south as Briny Breezes, FL.
Memorial visiting hours will be held Friday evening May 27, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A private family service will be held at a later date.

Raymond E. White
....show , 73, of Cemetery Street, died Thursday evening, May 19, 2005, at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster, after a recent illness. His wife Lorraine A. White recently predeceased him on May 8.
Mr. White was born in Groveton, NH, on July 18, 1931, the son of John and Mildred (Conley) White.
He was raised in Groveton and Lancaster. For 22 years he served with the US Navy in both the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. Returning home he was employed with the NH Department of Transportation as a bridgeman. During that time he was involved with bridge building and repair but he also had the opportunity to work with Nels Nelson on the maintenance of the Old Man of the Mountain. He later worked for various construction companies including Temple Construction of Lunenburg, VT.
Active with the Veterans of Foreign Wars he was past commander of the John W. Weeks Post # 3041, Lancaster, where he was also a member of the Cooties. He was also past State Commander for the Department of New Hampshire Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States.
Family members include a son Harold "Sam" White of Lancaster; four daughters, Valerie Benson, Eileen King, Diane Blodgett, Cheri White, all of Lancaster; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. White was born in Lancaster on January 10, 1932, the daughter of Fred and Hazel (Hart) Vashaw.
Lorraine resided in Lancaster all her life and was a 1950 graduate of Lancaster Academy. For a time she worked for the Loving Grace Ministries, Lancaster, and the Laverdiers of Lancaster. For approximately 10 years was employed as a Deeds Clerk at the Coos County Registry of Deeds.
She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Lancaster. Her favorite pastimes included knitting and crosswords.
Family members include her husband Raymond E. White of Lancaster; a son Harold "Sam" White of Lancaster; four daughters, Valerie Benson, Eileen King, Diane Blodgett, Cheri White, all of Lancaster; a brother Norman Vashaw of Lancaster; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A brother Frederick Vashaw and a sister Virginia Long predeceased her.

Thomas R. Corrigan
....show , 81, of Portland Street, died Sunday evening May 1, 2005, at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster, after a lengthy illness with family at his side.
Mr. Corrigan was born in Gorham, NH, on February 13, 1924, the son of Harry E. and Ernestine (Fraser) Corrigan.
He was raised in Cascade and Gorham along with 5 brothers and 4 sisters and attended St. Benedicts Catholic School (Cascade) and Gorham Schools. In his teens he worked at the Halfway House on Mount Washington and also joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and was stationed at the C.C.C.'s Peabody Station assisting in the construction of the present day Dolley Copp Campground and pavilion.
At the age of 17 he was hired on as one of the original crew of the Portland Pipeline Company and helped lay the crude oil pipeline from Portland, ME to Montreal, Que. He remained with the pipeline, at their pumping stations in Shelburne and Lancaster, for 25 years. In 1965 Sears Roebuck and Company hired him to operate their newly opened Catalog Sales store in Lancaster. He owned and operated the store for 24 years until his retirement in 1989.
In 1943 he joined the U.S. Navy and served proudly in the Pacific Theatre in WWII aboard the U.S.S. Braine-D.D. 630, as Machinist Mate-Second Class, a member of Admiral Arleigh Burke's "Little Beaver Squadron". He also served aboard the U.S.S. Newport News CA-148, a Heavy Cruiser, during the Korean Conflict. His decorations and commendations include the Good Conduct, the WWII Victory Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal with 6 bronze stars and 2 silver stars, the Philippine Liberation Medal with 2 bronze stars.
At the urging of fellow Republicans he entered the 1970 Coos County Commission's District 2 race and was elected to his first term. Having resided, worked and raising a family in Coos County he entire life, this was his chance to give back to the people of Coos and the land he so loved. The people of Coos have responded by electing him to 15 consecutive terms for a total of 34 years of public office and service. Over the years, as a commissioner, he has seen the fruition and construction of the Coos County Nursing Home in Berlin, modern renovations to the County Jail in West Stewartstown. Under his leadership, the two county nursing hospitals continue to operate with the highest of ratings and the County Farm, West Stewartstown, is a profitable dairy operation. Also, during his tenure in office, he played an integral part in the divesting of the antiquated Berlin and Lancaster courthouses and the construction of the modern, state-of-the-art Superior Courthouse in Lancaster. The board of commissioner's also oversee the county's many unincorporated towns. A lifelong Republican, he has worked hard for the party's goals and causes. His participation, through the years, has helped maintain party unity and strengthened Republicanism in Coos County and the entire state of New Hampshire.
Tom was an avid outdoorsman and loved the North Country. Fishing, hunting and camping with is children and grandchildren were among his favorite pastimes. Collecting books on local history is another interest, particularly about logging and nature. A traditionalist, he enjoyed passing on tell-tale facts, stories and anecdotes of Northern New Hampshire's storied past and his own upbringing in this area. He was also an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan, rarely missing a game.
Tom was a Communicant of All Saints Church, Lancaster. He was also a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars John W. Weeks Post 3041 of Lancaster and the American Legion Post 82 of Gorham. Other organizations include the Lancaster Jay-Cee's and the Knights of Columbus, also of Lancaster. He and fellow Jay-Cee's started the Toys for Tot's Foundation, in his home's cellar in Lancaster, and it continues to grow, to this day, every year. Other achievements include assisting in the creation of a Car Rodeo safety program and youth basketball program in Lancaster.
Surviving family members include his wife Arlene (Jones) Corrigan, whom he married September 9, 1946, of Lancaster; five children, Mitchell E. Corrigan of Merrimack, Maryrose E. Corrigan, Colleen E. Truland, Matthew T. Corrigan all of Lancaster, Patricia M. Wyman of Manchester; 13 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; four brothers, George Corrigan of Tennessee, Francis Corrigan of Manchester, Dean Corrigan of Burlington, VT, Eugene Corrigan of Virginia; three sisters Marie Witter of Bethel, ME, Peggy Corrigan and Madeline Wentworth both of Gorham and many nieces and nephews. A brother Harry E. Corrigan Jr. and a sister Rita Knee predeceased him.

Ruth M. Prince
....show , 86, of Fletcher Street, died at her home Wednesday June 29, 2005.
Mrs. Prince was born in Stratford, NH, on June 2, 1919, the daughter of Earl and Albertina (Mason) Brown.
She was a member of the Methodist Church, teaching Sunday school and cutting stencils for the church bulletin for many years. She was married to Warren Prince. They created a gasoline pump and tank business, the first of its kind in the North Country. They did work for all major oil companies.
She was a free-lance secretary, did CPA work and compiled histories for organization, among other things. Ruth was the originator of the popular "Notch" motto when she submitted to the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce the following: "Lancaster: Notches Above the Rest of New Hampshire".
Family members include three daughters, Linda MacNeill of Kitimat, British Columbia, Beth Giuliano, of Westerly, RI, Anna Prince of Melrose, MA; a son Warren B. "Chip" Prince of New York City; a brother, Harry Brown of Williamstown, MA; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews. Survivors should also include an "adopted" daughter, Polly Taylor of Olympia, Washington, plus a long list of other "adoptees".

Wanda was born in Lancaster on December 19, 1953, the daughter of Elliott W. and Marietta (Enman) Ingerson.
She is survived by her mother of Jefferson; a brother Rodney E. Ingerson and his wife Pat of Jefferson; three sisters, Lynn I. Smith and her husband Michael of Salem, VA, Dona L. William E. "Buck" Allen Jr.

Mr. Allen was born in Lancaster on August 11, 1943, the son of William E. Allen Sr. and Lucy V. (Tippett) Allen.
Buck was a lifetime resident of the Guildhall and Maidstone area. For many years he was employed with Seaward Construction and later worked for the Miles Pond Sawmill. He enjoyed tinkering on cars and lawn equipment, fishing and snowmachining.
Family members include a daughter Vicki Potter of Lancaster; a brother, Philip W. Allen of Maidstone; two sisters, Elvina M. Allen of Guildhall, Evelyn L. Allen of Maidstone; and two grandchildren, Shawna and Krista of Lancaster. He was predeceased by his son Keith W. Allen in 2002 and his parents.

Mr. Doolan was born in Lancaster, on January 15, 1945, the son of David T. Doolan and Sarah (McHarg) Doolan Norris.
John was a lifelong resident of Lancaster and graduate of Lancaster Academy, Class of 1963. During the Korean War he served with the US Army in the Military Police. For many years he worked in construction for Pizzagalli Construction and Curren & Lavoie. From 1968 until 1981 he was employed with Merrimack Farmers Exchange, Lancaster, where he was manager for the last 6 years there. He was presently working for Emerson and Son Hardware, Groveton, where he has been employed for the past 24 years.
He was a member of the John W. Weeks VFW Post #3041, American Legion Post #17, Groveton, a Charter member of the Lancaster Snowdrifters, and the former Lancaster Jaycees. He was also the past president of the Lancaster Bowling League, former member of the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce, and the co-chairman for the WMRHS Booster Club.
Surviving family members include three brothers; William Doolan of Lancaster, James Doolan of Groveton, Brian Doolan of Stark; two sisters, Evelyn Wesson of Lancaster, Judith Brochu of Concord, NH; one aunt Elaine McHarg of East Haven, VT; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, and two sisters, Nancy Hamilton and MaryAnn Walker.

Roberta was born in Bath, Maine, on October 1, 1948, the daughter of Bernard Wyman Sr. and Elizabeth (Libby) Wyman.
In Maine she was raised in the Phippsburg and Parker Head area where her father operated a seafood business. She later lived in Bath, South Berwick, and the Seacoast area of New Hampshire. For many years she was employed at South Berwick Shoe. She has resided in Whitefield for the last five years at the home of Dorothy Hutchins and Alan Allen, longtime friends who regarded her as a foster mother.
Surviving family members include a son Donald Gardner of Whitefield; her companion Mike Mackey of Whitefield; a brother, Bernard Wyman Jr. of Bath, Maine; five sisters, Elizabeth Worrey of Phippsburg, Maine, Laura Pantelakos of Portsmouth, NH, Marsha Lyman of Pearl, Mississippi, Patricia Reno of Portsmouth, NH, Beatrice Reno of South Berwick, Maine; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; a brother Paul Wyman and a sister Edith Theaubault.

Carl S. Fernald
....show , 88, formerly of West Main Street, died Thursday morning, June 9, 2005, at Country Village Health Care Center, Lancaster.
Mr. Fernald was born in Dover, NH, on January 6, 1917, the son of Carl S. Fernald Sr. and Marie (Aldrich) Fernald.
Raised in New Hampshire Carl moved to Lunenburg at 12 years of age. He served in the US Army infantry in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He resided in Lancaster for 12 years later returning to Lunenburg. For 19 years he was employed at the Gilman Paper Company and then was a house painter for 12 years. He was also a longtime caretaker of Riverside Cemetery, S. Lunenburg.
An avid horseshoe player he was the winner of many tournaments in his day. His competitors affectionately knew him as "The Legend". He competed in Leagues in S. Ryegate, Lancaster, and Lyndonville. The Lancaster VFW holds the annual "Carl Fernald Tournament". He retired from competition at 79 years old.
He was also an avid basketball and baseball (Red Sox) fan. He was a member of the John W. Weeks VFW Post #3041, Lancaster.
He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Nila Powers of Lunenburg, and Geneva Blay of Schenectady, NY; nieces and nephews. His wife Joyce Katherine (Pond) Fernald and a son Michael Fernald, predeceased him.

Dennis C. Arpin
....show , 54, of Prospect Street, died suddenly at his home, Wednesday July 27, 2005.
Mr. Arpin was born in Berlin, NH on July 2, 1951, the son of Camille and Antoinette (Niquette) Arpin.
Dennis was a 1969 graduate of Berlin High School. He worked many years in the hotel industry starting at the age of 16 as a relish boy at the Crawford House. Later he worked as a bellman and chauffeur and was employed for eight years at the Mountain View and eight years at the Balsams. For the past eight years he has been a courier for the Caledonian Record and was well known along his route went from Lancaster to West Stewartstown and Canaan.
Mr. Arpin was also a talented amateur photographer. Some of his work was acknowledged by the NH Council on the Arts and is on permanent display in the Coos County District Courthouse in Lancaster.
Family members include his wife Laura (Gross) Arpin of Lancaster; a daughter Caitlin Arpin of Lancaster; a brother Norman Arpin of Florida; a sister Germaine Landry of Cascade; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Tod J. Collins
....show , 22, of Perras Road, died Sunday afternoon July 24, 2005.
Tod was born in Lancaster on February 18, 1983, the son of Mark and Louise (Perras) Collins.
He was a 2001 graduate of Groveton High School where he was very active in basketball, soccer, and baseball. In soccer his team won the Class S Championship his senior year and he was awarded MVP. The basketball team, along with coaching from his father, won four Class S Championships.
Tod attended welding school in Florida and was presently working as a welder with Nordic Construction in Berlin. He enjoyed spending time at Maidstone Lake fishing and riding his jetski.
Family members include his parents of Groveton; two sisters, Kristy Collins and Kelley Collins both of Groveton; a paternal grandmother Valerie Collins of Groveton; maternal grandparents Real & Alice Perras of Northumberland; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Robert Collins, in 2003.

Ross A. Whitney
....show , 78, of Third Street, died Thursday morning July 14, 2005 at Weeks Medical Center.
Mr. Whitney was born in Lancaster on May 22, 1927, the son of Frank and Wilma (Goodall) Whitney.
Ross was a lifetime resident of Lancaster leaving only for a short time to serve with the US Navy during WWII. His military service was primarily a tour in the Pacific Theater include Okinawa. Returning home he worked for a time as a woodsman and was employed with the Town of Lancaster. Most of his life he worked as a mechanic and was employed 27 years with Whitney Motors in Lancaster and 10 years with the Forbes Farm, Lancaster.
At one time he use to enjoy hunting and fishing and was an avid snowmobiler for many years.
Family members include his wife Jean E. (Gould) Whitney of Lancaster; a son Rockie A. Whitney of Guildhall; a daughter Rebecca J. Whitney of Lancaster; three grandchildren; a brother Roland Whitney of Sharon, PA; and two sisters, Edna Kiser of Whitefield, and Amy Wade of Clearwater, FL.
Visiting hours will be held Monday morning July 18, from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A funeral service will follow immediately after visiting hours at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Reverend Donald B. Williams, pastor of the Mt. View Baptist Church, will officiate. Military honors will be conducted after the service outside the funeral home.

Allan Howard Bean
....show , 67, of 757 Dalton Road, died suddenly Wednesday July 6, 2005 at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster, due to complications resulting from a heart attack.
Mr. Bean was born in Saint Johnsbury, Vermont, on May 26, 1938, the son of Howard and Shirley (Smith) Bean of Sutton, VT.
Allan served in the Army National Guard and was a graduate of Lyndon State College. He taught both elementary and Jr. High School and most recently worked for the New Hampshire Division of Forest and Lands Service as a Fire Watchman, Patrolman and for Franconia Notch State Park at Cannon Mountain ski slopes. On two occasions Allan participated in cooperative efforts to fight wild fires in Montana and Oregon.
He was a member of the Dalton Congregational Church, where he served on the board of trustees and as church custodian. Allan also was a member of Clan MacBean Association, and served 37 years on the Dalton Fire Department. He also served his community by leading the local Boy Scout troop, and he played the part of Smokey the Bear for various events.
Allan loved to hike, camp, ski, and work in the outdoors. He also enjoyed participating in Scottish festivals and was the convener at the New Hampshire Clan tent.
He will be, lovingly remembered by his family as a dedicated husband, father, loyal citizen, and a Christian man of strong moral character who believed it was better to serve than to be served. We look forward to seeing him again in heaven.

Calling hours will be held Saturday evening July 9, from 6-9 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster, the Funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the Lancaster Congregational United Church of Christ, Reverend David Pruitt, pastor of the Dalton Congregational Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Cushman Cemetery, Dalton.

Mildred E. Scott
....show , 85, of Main Street, died Tuesday afternoon July 5, 2005, at Country Village Health Care Center, Lancaster.
Mildred was born in Lancaster, on March 24, 1920, the daughter of Elbridge and Mary I. (Whiting) Green.
She moved to Portland, Maine in 1954, were she worked for B & M Baked Beans until retirement. In 1982 she returned to Lancaster, working for a time at the Wash Tub Laundromat. She has been a resident of the McKee Inn since 2000. She enjoyed reading, the outdoors, and fishing. She also enjoyed writing, and at one time wrote for the White Mountain Gazette.
She was a past member of the Lancaster Grange, and the Business and Professional Women .
Surviving family members include two daughters; Mary L. Sanzo, and Corrine E. MacDonald both of Lancaster; a son Russell E. Scott Sr. also of Lancaster; a sister Barbara Chubuck of Brunswick, Maine; 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother Linwood "Joe" Green and a sister Ruth Phillips.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday afternoon and evening July 7, from 2-4 & 7-9 at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 PM at the Funeral Home, Reverend Merton Rymph , interim pastor of Lancaster Congregational United Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will follow in Summer Street Cemetery, Lancaster.
