, 25, of Newport died suddenly October 28, 2005, in Newport Center. Ms. Chagnon was born January 8, 1980, in Stoughton, Massachusetts, a daughter of Clarence Williams and Debrough Bratti. On April 9 she married Gary Chagnon, who survives her. She most recently worked for Rosswood Decorating of Colchester, which she enjoyed. She was also employed as a licensed nurse's aide (LNA) for Bel-Aire Quality Care Nursing Center, Newport Health Care Center, and Union House Nursing Home. She loved raising her children and taking care of people, especially her loving family. She was proud of her general equivalency diploma and of being an LNA. She was loved by all who knew her, and she had a big heart. She is survived by her beloved husband, Gary Chagnon Jr., of Newport; by her young children: Brittany and Eric Scott Jr. and Devon Chagnon; by her parents, Debrough Bratti and Ricky LePage Sr., of Newport; by her father, Clarence Williams, of Brockton, Massachusetts; by brothers Joshua and Richard Jr. of Newport; by sisters April LePage of Newport and Crystal Williams of Massachusetts; by her maternal grandmother Arlene Tice of Newport; by great-grandparents Herbert and Evelyn Sears of Massachusetts; by her parents-in-law, Gary Sr. and Elaine Chagnon, of Newport; by very close friend Melanie Gray Allard of Lyndonville; and by several aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was predeceased by her grandfather Herbert Tice. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 2, at the Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Memorial Chapel on Lake Road in Newport with the Reverend Richard Whitehill officiating. , 85, of Derby died in Derby on Saturday, October 22, 2005. Mrs. Dumas was born in Island Pond on September 8, 1920, a daughter of Horace and Florence (Davis) Ovitt. She was a cook at the Lakeview School in Newport. She enjoyed her family and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Horace; by her daughters: Patricia "Patty" Wholly and her husband, David, Priscilla "Penny" Blair, and Nancy Brunner and her husband, George; by her grandchildren Kristy Lee Buckelew and Joshua Noyes; by her great-grandchildren Blake and Jacob; by her brother Melvin Ovitt; and by nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her daughter Lois; by her brother Everett; and by her sister Ruby Paradis. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 5, at the Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Island Pond at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Robert Castle officiating. , 74, of West Glover died in Newport on Thursday, October 27, 2005. Mr. Sinberg was born in Tallinn, Estonia, on February 28, 1931, a son of Toomas and Maria (Orgo) Sinberg. He come to the United States in 1949. He graduated from Mount Hermon School in Mount Hermon, Massachusetts, in 1951 and from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, with a bachelor's degree in 1955. He served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserves from 1955 to 1962 and was discharged with the rank of staff sergeant. After working in New York with toy manufacturer Transogram Company, he joined MCA Records in Los Angeles in 1971 as director of manufacturing services. He retired from MCA in 1991 and moved to West Glover. Throughout his life he dedicated countless hours to many organizations. Most recently, he was trustee, treasurer, and acting secretary of the Barton Public Library; director and secretary of the Glover Historical Society; and treasurer of the West Glover Congregational Church. He was also director and treasurer of the Estonian Students Fund in U.S.A., a nonprofit scholarship fund for students of Estonian descent, from 1965 to 2001. In 2002 the Association for the Advancement of Baltic Studies recognized him as a senior advisor. On September 22, 1978, he married Dorothy Garland, who predeceased him in 1996. He is survived by his sister Maia Mathiesen of Stockholm, Sweden; by two nephews in Sweden, Toomas and Tiit Mathiesen; by Victoria Mathiesen of Fall River, Massachusetts, the wife of his deceased nephew Mihkel Mathiesen; by his wife's nephews Michael Morton and his wife, Joanne, of Waterford, Connecticut, and Joseph Morton of Kingman, Arizona; and by Joseph's daughter Heather Morton of Phoenix, Arizona. The family would like to thank all the Vermonters who played such vital roles in his day-to-day support system. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 19, at the West Glover Community Church at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at Westlook Cemetery in Glover.

, 95, of Barton died peacefully on Wednesday, October 26, 2005, in Barton, following an extended illness, with her loving family at her side. Mrs. Desjardins was born in Wotton, Quebec, on March 27, 1910, a daughter of the late Emile and Elmire (Morel) Chainey. She married Lucien Desjardins at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in West Charleston on September 4, 1928. He predeceased her in 1976. She then married AdelardPoginy on June 24, 1978. He predeceased her in 1984. She was a dedicated, loving wife and the mother of ten children. She was a former member of the Ladies Guild of St. Theresa's Church and a member of the Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed sewing and making clothes for the children. She will be missed by her family. She is survived by her children: Angeline Perrault and her husband, Gerard, of Orleans, Huguette Black and her husband, Marcel, of Ocala, Florida, Roland Desjardins of Spring Hill, Florida, Jeannette Auger of Barton, Paulette Lebrun of Ocala, Florida, Mona Brosseau and her husband, Guy, of Atol, Massachusetts, Mary Jane Denny and her husband, Jeff, of Cobourg, Ontario, Roger Desjardins and his wife, Barbara, of Concord, New Hampshire, and Hubert Desjardins of New Port Ritchey, Florida; by her sister Yvette Croteau of Orleans; by her sister-in-law Aline Guillette of Derby; by 35 grandchildren; by 89 great-grandchildren; by two great-great-grandchildren; and by nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Emile. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated October 28 at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Orleans with the Reverend Daniel Rupp, the Reverend Deacon Roland Desjardins, and the Reverend Raymond Lettre officiating. Interment followed at St. Theresa's Cemetery in Orleans.

, 70, of Irasburg died at his home on Thursday, October 27, 2005. Mr. Gleason was born in Newport on September 29, 1935, a son of Merton and Rose (Blair) Gleason. He served in the U.S. Army. He owned and operated a farm in Irasburg for many years and devoted his life to the farm. He married Joyce Davis, who predeceased him in 1995. He is survived by his granddaughter Rhonda Jasper and her husband, Jerry, of Rutland; by his great-grandchildren: Sarah L. Severance, Joshua Severance, and Amanda Jasper, all of Rutland; by his brothers: Bruce Stoddard and his wife, Coettia, of Arizona, Donald Stoddard and his wife, Carol, of Barton, and Richard Stoddard and his wife, Delores, of Orleans; by his sisters Patricia Sykas and her husband, Paul, of Groton and Gloria Conley and her husband, John, of Barton; by his sister-in-law Elizabeth Jones and her husband, Carol, of Eden; and by numerous nieces and nephews. , 73, of Winchendon, Massachusetts, died Friday, October 28, 2005, in the Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York City, following an illness. Mr. Lupien was born in Marlborough, Massachusetts, on February 15, 1932, a son of George C. and Priscilla I. (Caron) Lupien. He lived in Winchendon for most of his life. He had a summer home in Morgan for over 45 years. He was a graduate of Murdock High School in Winchendon. He was a plant manager at the former Patriot Industries in Winchendon before his retirement. He was a communicant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and enjoyed nature, fishing, and metal detecting. His wife of 47 years, Carol E. (Rajaniemi) Lupien, died in 2002. He leaves four sons: Joseph L. Lupien of Alexandria, New Hampshire, Cole A. Lupien of Templeton, Massachusetts, and Keith B. Lupien and Dana J. Lupien of Winchendon; two daughters, Tracey A. Dev of Colonia, New Jersey, with whom he stayed during his illness, and Angela K. Whalen of Winchendon; a brother, R. Kenneth Lupien, of Rindge, New Hampshire; two sisters, Aline P. Lafalam of Winchendon and Jeannette J. Brown of Ipswich, Massachusetts; nine grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 4, from the funeral home in Winchendon with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Winchendon. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Winchendon. Calling hours in the funeral home are on Thursday, November 3, from 6 to 8 p.m.

, 44, of Newport Center died suddenly in Irasburg on Monday, November 7, 2005. Mr. Messier was born in Newport on October 7, 1961, a son of Joyce (Lawson) and Richard Messier. He was a 1980 graduate of Lake Region Union High School. He was a dedicated farmer for Lawson Farms, Incorporated. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan, and he enjoyed hunting. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially at family gatherings. On August 1, 1981, he married Jean Herman, who survives him. He is also survived by his children: Jessica Farrar and her husband, Benjamin, of Newport, Scott Messier of Fort Drum, New York, Tracy Messier of Newport Center, and Amy Messier of Irasburg; by his granddaughter Natasha Farrar; by his father, Richard Messier, of Irasburg; by his brothers: Clifford Messier and his wife, Irene, of Brownington, Kenny Messier and his companion, Sara, of Barton, and Leonard Messier and his wife, Robin, of Lowell; by his sister Tammy Charland and her husband, Donald, of Derby; by his parents-in-law, Norman and Patricia Herman, of Brownington; and by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother, Joyce, on November 16, 1999. , 96, of Newport died in Glover on Friday, November 4, 2005. She was born in Amherst, Massachusetts, on August 29, 1909, a daughter of Joseph and Mary Louise (Chartier) Souliere. She worked as a seamstress all of her life and was a great cook. She loved her grandchildren, and in her earlier days she made all the grandchildren's clothing as well as homemade gifts for them. On September 24, 1928, she married Archie Carron, who predeceased her. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Amelia Ormsbee and her husband, Francis, of Newport; by her grandchildren: Donald Carron and his wife Laurie of San Diego, California, Julie Greenwood and her husband, Brian, of Waterdown, Ontario, Susan Butler and her husband, George, of Newport, and Michael Carron and his wife, Kerry, of Prairie Du Sac, Wisconsin; by nine great-grandchildren; and by three great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son Donald Carron on January 3, 1969; and by her brothers: Al, Harvey, Paul, and Joseph. A memorial service was held November 9 at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Newport with the Reverend Phillip Brennan officiating. Interment will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. Nelson Elisha Wade

, 92, of Island Pond died at his home on Thursday, November 3, 2005. Mr. Wade was born in Brighton on February 22, 1913, a son of Joseph and Maude (Currier) Wade and grandson of Irish immigrant Ellen Fitzgerald. He resided within half a mile of his birthplace his whole life. His first job was farming with his father. He then was road commissioner in Island Pond for 20 years and a land surveyor. He had been a tax collector and town lister for Island Pond. He was instrumental in building Brighton State Park. He was a 70-year member of Island Pond Lodge No. 44 of Free and Accepted Masons. He served the lodge as its master four different years and was a former district deputy grand master and past grand senior deacon of the Grand Lodge of Vermont. He was master of the local Grange and the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows. He was president of the Parent Teacher Association for the Brighton school system and a 4-H leader. When teenagers in Island Pond lacked local activities, he arranged and ran Friday night square dances at the Grange Hall. He raised Angus beef for five years. He was a descendant of American Revolution soldiers. He enjoyed traveling on senior trips and with family members. He enjoyed gardening, to the benefit of friends and family, and playing cribbage, especially as of late with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On October 31, 1936, he married Jeanne C. Bissonnette, who survives him. He is survived by his children: Ann Marie West and her husband, Paul, of Durham, New Hampshire, Lucinda Hill and her husband, Spencer, of Huntington, and William Wade and his wife, Kay, of Hilton, Virginia; by his grandchildren: Deborah Stacey of Maine, Steven and Sandy West of New York, Kim and Mike Drew of Vermont, Kelly Hill and Maria Duyea of Vermont, Scott and Donna Wade of Virginia, and Stacey and ArjaySarmiento of New York; by his sister Shirley Davis of Maine; by ten great-grandchildren; and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Joseph; and by his sisters Mae Stevens and Lou Jenkins. Funeral services were held November 7 at the First Congregational Church in Island Pond with the Reverend Roger Fletcher and the Reverend William Morgan officiating. Interment followed at Lakeside Cemetery in Island Pond. , 87, of Newport died peacefully November 5, 2005, in Newport. Mr. Maxwell was born August 23, 1918, in Derby, a son of Henry and Alice (Moulton) Maxwell. On June 28, 1947, he married Greta Messier, who survives him. He grew up on the family farm, which he owned and operated until 1965. He was a true farmer at heart. He was employed by Ethan Allen Manufacturing in Orleans until his retirement in 1983. His life revolved around his family. He cherished the many family get-togethers, be it the trips to the lake, the county fairs, the family picnics, or the holiday gatherings. He greatly enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow, and he was very proud of their many accomplishments. He will be sadly missed by all those whose lives he touched. , 90, of Newport, formerly of North Troy, died in Newport on Thursday, November 3, 2005. Mrs. Young was born in Glen Sutton, Quebec, on November 6, 1914, a daughter of Arthur and Lillian (Oliver) Shover. She had worked as a cook for the Longbranch Restaurant. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and playing cards. On April 28, 1934, she married Leonard J. Young, who predeceased her on July 24, 1969. She is survived by her son Leonard Young and his wife, Joanne, of North Troy; by her grandchildren: James Young and his wife, Trish, of Waterbury, Lois Standish and her husband, Steve, of North Troy, Patricia Bonney and her husband, Terrance, of England, and Jeffrey Young and his wife, Jennifer, of Jay, currently stationed in Kuwait; by seven great-grandchildren; and by nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters: Olive Brouillette, Ella Oderkirk, and Velma Kidder. A graveside service was held November 6 at the Derby Line Cemetery with the Reverend Fred Barker officiating. Donna Kay Baraw

, 58, of Glover died November 27, 2005, after a long battle with scleroderma. She was surrounded by family at the time of her passing. Mrs. Baraw was born on April 24, 1947, in Barre, a daughter of Kenneth and Susan (Campbell) Swift. She was predeceased by her first husband, Donald Neil, and her two sons, Scott and Randy Neil. In 1990 she married her loving husband, Bruce Carlton Baraw, who survives her and was with her every moment of the past several years. She was a past employee of American Maple Products in Newport and Ethan Allen in Orleans. She enjoyed horses and everything to do with them. She had belonged to Northeast Kingdom Rangers and enjoyed riding with anyone who would ride with her. She enjoyed playing cards and many other games. She especially enjoyed spending time with her friends and family and loved them all dearly. She is survived by her mother, Susan Swift, of Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton; by her brother James Swift and his wife, Susan, of Newport; by her nieces Sarah Swift of Wayne, Pennsylvania, and Laurie Swift of Burlington; and by several uncles, aunts, and cousins. She is also survived by her horse, Star. Funeral services will be held at the Glover Community Church on Saturday, December 3, at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Christine Osowski officiating. Interment will take place at the Westlook Cemetery in Glover at the convenience of the family.
