, 62, of Bradenton, Florida, died Monday, February 23, 2004, at Manatee Memorial Hospital, following a courageous battle with cancer, with his family at his side. After graduating from Barton Academy in 1959, Mr. Sicard served in the United State Air Force. He married Priscilla Gonyaw in Barton on September 26, 1964. In 1970 they moved to Bradenton, where he was employed by Winn Dixie for 30 years as a meat cutter. Survivors include his wife, Priscilla; daughter Angela Davis of Greensburg, Kentucky; sons: Daniel and his wife, Cherri, of Myakka City, Florida, Christopher and his wife, Jenne, of Richford, and Bradley and his wife, Jennifer, of Bradenton; and 11 grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother, Dorothy Sicard, of Westmore and Bradenton; by brothers: Lawrence and his wife, Shirley, of Westmore, David and his wife, Penny, of Vernon, Michael and his wife, Carole, of Bradenton, and Terry and his wife, Christine, of Westmore; by sisters: Barbara Perkins of Summerfield, Florida, and Orleans, Betsy Diette and her husband, Armand, of Summerfield and Sutton, Susan Sicard of Lyndonville, Judie Fitzpatrick and her husband, Peter, of Mooresville, North Carolina, and Patti Royer and her husband, Gary, of Lyndonville; and by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Lawrence, in 1968; and by brother-in-law Raymond Perkins Sr. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on February 26 at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Bradenton.

, 83, a logger and horse puller, died at his home in Albany on Friday, February 27, 2004. Mr. True was born in Fremont, New Hampshire, on September 11, 1920, the son of Leslie and Mertilla (Lovering) True. He attended grade school in New Hampshire and later married the late Leora Camber. In 1944 he was inducted into the U.S. Army and served with the Tenth Mountain Division in Europe during World War II. After service he returned to his family in Vermont. He was a true woodsman. He logged in the era when he had to stay in logging camps through the winter, logging with horses, cross-cut saws, and bobsleds. He logged throughout most of Vermont and New Hampshire at one time or another and was well-known to the industry. In his leisure time, he loved to be with his family and enjoyed horse pulling events and building logging sleds. He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter No. 22 and the DAV Commanders Club. He also was a member of the Eastern Draft Horse Association and the Horse Pullers Association. He leaves two sons, David True and his wife, Diane, of Lyndonville and John True and his wife, Alice, of Lake Cheadin, Virginia; two daughters, Dorothy Baker of Waterbury and Mary Hudson and her husband, Clinton, of Wheelock; a brother, Ernest True, of New Hampshire and Florida; a son-in-law and friend, Howard Hamel; ten grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He also leaves the family of his late companion, Florence Woodard. Friends may call Saturday, March 6, at the Davis Funeral Home in Craftsbury Common from 2 to 4 p.m. A spring graveside service and interment will be held at Albany Village Cemetery. , 95, of Island Pond and more recently of Barton, died in Barton on February 26, 2004. Mrs. Laliberty was born in Island Pond on August 24, 1908, the daughter of Ernest and Amanda (Morrissette) Boutin. On June 11, 1929, she married Albert Laliberty, who predeceased her in 1995. She was a member of St. James the Greater Catholic Church in Island Pond, the Daughters of Isabella, and St. Jean de Baptist. She is survived by her sisters: Loretta Rabida of Island Pond and now Barton, Dorothy Lepage of Montreal, Quebec, and Lauria Latendresse of St. Hubert, Quebec; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers: Ovilla, Theodore, and Alexander; and by her sisters: Lillian, Alice, Beatrice, and Lorraine. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated March 1 at St. James Catholic Church in Island Pond with the Reverend William Morgan officiating. , 69, of Island Pond died unexpectedly February 25, 2004, in Lebanon, New Hampshire. Mr. Graden was born July 13, 1934, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of William and Alice (Guest) Graden. On August 20, 1956, he married Sabra Carpenter who survives him. He graduated from Palmyra High School in Palmyra, New Jersey. He later graduated from the University of Missouri and Penn State University with a degree in petroleum engineering. He attended St. Michaels College in Colchester and other area schools to become a deacon. He was a petroleum engineer for TOPCO in Long Beach, California, for 35 years. He served as a deacon for St. James the Greater Catholic Church in Island Pond and St. Bernards Catholic Church in Norton for six years. He was financial secretary and a member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 2495 of Island Pond and spiritual advisor for the Vermont Chapter Cursillo Team. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sabra (Carpenter) Graden; by a sister, Susan Danner, of California; by his stepmother, Dorothy Graden, of California; by two sons and two daughters: Mark Graden of Island Pond and Timothy Graden, Jennifer Snyder, and Rebecca Watkins, all of Lyndonville; by eight grandchildren; and by two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Matthew Graden. He was greatly loved by his family and parishioners as he shared the love of Christ with everyone his life touched. Funeral services were held at St. James the Greater Catholic Church in Island Pond March 1 with the Reverend William Morgan celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial. Spring interment will be in St. Bernards Cemetery in Norton. , 91, of Derby died at Bel-Aire Quality Care Nursing Center on Sunday, February 29, 2004. Ms. Field was born on January 5, 1913, in Newport, the daughter of Thomas and Grace (Kittredge) Field and was educated at Newport City schools. She was an industrious person who worked alongside her parents throughout their lives and cared for them in their retirement. She was a member of the Advent Christian Churches of Newport Center and in later years was a member of the United Church of Derby. Throughout her life she was a talented crafter who took pleasure in creating fashionable handknits, afghans, quilts, and rugs for family, friends, and charities. Throughout her life she worked at her crafts with patience and ingenuity. She was predeceased by a half-sister, Theda Jenkins, and survived by a sister, Marion F. Mould, and by nephews. A graveside service will be held in May at Newport Center Cemetery with the Reverend Fred Barker officiating. , 54, of Jay died suddenly March 3, 2004, in Newport. Mr. Scionti was born March 17, 1949, in Kings County, Brooklyn, New York, a son of Santo and Sally (Agnello) Scionti. On March 7, 1981, he married Kathleen Sotiro, who survives him. He graduated from City College (Brooklyn) and from a tech school in Manhattan with an associates degree in electrical engineering. He was a project manager for the Vermont Agency of Transportation for 14 years. He enjoyed climatology, Lionel trains and watching television, and he was an avid reader. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen E. Scionti, of Jay; by his three children: Collin S. Scionti, Tristan K. Scionti, and Kaitlyn S. Scionti, all of Jay; by two aunts; by two uncles; and by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services were held at Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Memorial Chapel March 6. , 72, born in New York City on October 15, 1931, died unexpectedly at his home on February 29, 2004. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him. Mr. Page was a loving husband of 50 years to Patricia Kelley Page. They had a love at first sight whose passion never waivered through the good times and the bad. It was both a romantic love and a lifelong devoted love. They shared a love of animals, especially horses. He was an amazing horseman, both in riding and training. He was a generous father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a passionate writer and gifted woodworker. He loved hiking, playing golf, and fishing. He was a dedicated guitar player and maker. He was a Marine in the Korean War and vociferous in his opposition to all wars since. He traveled extensively in his younger years, but since moving to Lowell, after retiring from his job in New Jersey 12 years ago, he has not wanted to leave his beautiful Vermont hills. He had a lifelong love of words and music, which he passed on to all those around him. He loved to learn new things and was always avid in his pursuits. However, of all the things he did in his life, he always said being a parent was the most important thing he did. He lived life intensely and felt everything very deeply. He wanted to protect his children from hurt. His family wants each and every person who reads this to take time out of their days to tell their loved ones how much they care. He will be greatly missed. Mrs. Logan was born in Lyndonville on February 17, 1911, the daughter of William and Ethel (Mizener) Reid. She was a member of the Derby Christmas Club, Newport United Church, the Friendship Circle at the church, and the Lake Region Senior Center. She was a past member of Home Dem and a longtime member of the Brownington Grange. She was a good seamstress and enjoyed rug hooking, quilting, crocheting, and knitting. She loved cooking for her family. On November 20, 1930, she married Allen Craft Brigham, who predeceased her on August 27, 1980. She later married Albert "Pete" Logan, who predeceased her on November 29, 1993. She is survived by her children: Joyce E. Bianchi of Newport, John W. Brigham and his wife, Joyce, of Derby, and Jean Carey-Dagesse and her husband, Leo, of Derby Line; by her grandchildren: Allen Brigham of Manchester, New Hampshire, J.D. , 60, of Craftsbury Common, died unexpectedly at Copley Hospital in Morrisville on Tuesday morning, March 2, 2004. Mr. Lang was born in Craftsbury on May 1, 1943, the son of Joseph and Margaret (Hodgdon) Lang. He served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He had been a truck driver most of his life, most recently for Roberts Landscaping of North Hyde Park. Survivors include his longtime companion, Robin Godin, of Craftsbury Common; two sons, Christopher and James, both of Craftsbury; two daughters, Darlene of East Montpelier and Patricia of Cape Cod, Massachusetts; four brothers: Edward of Franklin, Indiana, and Daniel, Walter, and Emerson, all of Barre; and two sisters, Betty Jakubowski of Texas and Lucy Bell of Barre Town. , 84, of Holland, Vermont, died at his home on Friday, March 5, 2004, with his family at his side. Mr. Carter was born in Holland on November 17, 1919, the son of Leon and Leila (Holmes) Carter. He served in the U.S. Army from August 30, 1944, to November 25, 1945, during World War II, where he was a battalion messenger. He owned and operated a farm in Holland and drove truck for Robert Taplin and Real Desrochers Excavating. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Alfred Pepin Post No. 798. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, fishing, and hunting. On March 3, 1962, he married Marie Boissy, who survives him. He is also survived by his sons Richard Carter of Granby, Connecticut, and Maurice Carter; by his stepson Roy William Lucius of West Boyleston, Massachusetts; by his grandchildren: Nathan, Jonathan, and Ricky; by his brother Harold Carter of Derby; by his sister Isabelle McInnis of Holland; and by two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Hazel Carter, in 1960; and by his sisters Freda Judd and Helen McGill. A spring graveside service with full military honors will be held at Mead Hill Cemetery in Holland with the Reverend Roger Fletcher officiating.

, 79, of DeLand, Florida, formerly of Island Pond, died in DeLand on Thursday, March 11, 2004. Mr. Seguin was born in Island Pond on August 3, 1924. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He retired in 1986 from the Canadian National Railroad after 45 years as chief clerk. He was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in DeLand and St. James Catholic Church in Island Pond. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Island Pond Random Post No. 2309 and American Legion Island Pond Post No. 80. He is survived by his wife, Maria Seguin, of DeLand; by his brother Richard Claude Seguin of DeLand and Morgan; by his sisters Ruth Coutere of Meridan, Connecticut, and Francesca Ann Jodrey of Gorham, New Hampshire; and by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy "Dolly" Dawson and Catherine Philipon; and by four nephews and one niece. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the spring at St. James Catholic Church in Island Pond. Interment will be in the Derby Line Cemetery.
Pearle Jerome Plante

, 82, died peacefully the morning of March 14, 2004, at Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton, where she received the best of care. Mrs. Plante was born March 2, 1922, in West Glover, the second child of David and Carrie (Marcou) Jerome. She received her education, and was an excellent student, from a one-room schoolhouse. Shortly after graduating she moved to Barton. During World War II she moved to Newport and went to work in the factory at the Union Twist Drill Company-Butterfield Division in Derby Line. Later, when women no longer were needed in the factory, she spent 25 years working at Pauls Cleaners. She also found great enjoyment being a Kirby saleslady starting in 1965. She was extra proud of being the top salesperson several times for the New England-New York District, winning many prizes. On December 18, 1948, she married Raymond Joseph Plante. They had no children, but she was like a mother to her sister, Nellie, as well as to many nieces and nephews. She will be remembered as a very kind and gentle person, one who always found good in everyone she met. She enjoyed people and loved having a houseful of friends. For many years she graciously took friends for their doctors appointments and other necessary errands. She had a heart of gold. She took great pleasure in getting dressed up with matching shoes and jewelry. She loved flowers and filled her home both inside and outside with them. She really enjoyed music and going to fiddling contests. Mrs. Plante, also known as Polly, was not afraid of work and even as a child milked cows before walking a mile to school each day. She loved animals, especially her horse, Lucky, and was known to take in stray dogs and cats. Survivors include her brother Clarence Jerome of Vermont; her sister Nellie Boulet of St. Johnsbury; and many nieces, nephews, close friends, and cousins as well as her extended family at Maple Lane Nursing Home. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond, on November 15, 1997; by her sister Florence Kellogg on December 3, 1998; and by her brothers-in-laws Paul "Pat" Boulet and Edmond Plante. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 27, at 11 a.m., in the Church of God in Derby, where she had attended for years. , 91, of Westmore died peacefully on March 13, 2004, at the home of her daughter Lucille Towle in St. Johnsbury, where she was surrounded by her family. Mrs. LaCross was born June 20, 1912, in Barton, a daughter of Donat and Delina (Benie) Jutras. On June 4, 1934, she married Raymond LaCross, who predeceased her on February 11, 1991. During her lifetime she was a member of St. Pauls Catholic Church in Barton and the Westmore Ladies Aid. She enjoyed raising her family and working on the family farm. She was a very loving and generous person. She is survived by her children: Loraine Morel and her husband, Albert, of East Hebron, New Hampshire, Lorette Gathright and her husband, James, of Northbend, Oregon; Lucille Towle and her husband, Albert, of St. Johnsbury, Roger LaCross and his wife, Judy, of Westmore, Norman LaCross and his wife, Stacey, of Westmore, and Dennis LaCross and his wife, Brenda, of Westmore; by 12 grandchildren; by seven great-grandchildren; and by nieces and nephews. , 87, of North Troy died peacefully March 9, 2004, at Derby Green surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Horskins was born on December 16, 1916, in Franklin, a son of George and Harriet (Westcott) Horskins. When he was two years old he moved to Newport Center, where he attended Newport Center school. He was a dairy farmer for most of his life and later worked at the Weyerhouser Mill Company for more than 18 years, retiring in 1970 due to his illness at the age of 52. On May 15, 1946, he married Wyona Wheeler, who survives him. He is also survived by his daughters Linda Veilleux and her husband, Gaytan, of Troy and Marilyn Randall and her husband, Ralph, of Troy; by eight grandchildren: Mark Veilleux, Michelle Veilleux, Rodney Horskins, Rhonda H. Martin, Tina H. Santaw, Jaime H. Johnson, Melissa Randall, and April Randall; by 11 great-grandchildren: Chelsey, Ryan, Mia, Douglas, Gerard, Thomas, Mackenzie, Kara, Ally, Keenan, and Fayth; by a sister, Etta Lucas, and her husband, Allen, of Newport; by two cousins; by many nieces and nephews; and by a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Stone, of Irasburg.
