, 88, of Dover, New Hampshire, died in Dover on Monday, May 24, 2004. Mrs. Forcier was born in Island Pond on September 13, 1915, the daughter of Henry and Ada (Morrissette) Marquis. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in Island Pond. She worked as an office and floor manager at J.J. Newberry's in Newport for 25 years. She also worked for a period of time at the Newport Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Newport, the Daughters of Isabella, the Ladies of St. Anne, and the Newport Chamber of Commerce. On January 16, 1939, she married Conrad Forcier, who predeceased her on April 15, 2000. She is survived by her children: Marie Twombly and her husband, Robert, of Dover, Andre Forcier and his wife, Celeste, of Shelburne, Lawrence Forcier and his wife, Donna, of Yarmouth, Maine, Francis Forcier and his wife, Sandra, of Springfield, and John Forcier and his wife, Diane, of Essex Junction; by 16 grandchildren; and by 15 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated May 28 at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church with the Reverend Larry Ridgley officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Newport. Carl E. Mayhew Sr.

, 83, of North Troy died at his home on Wednesday, May 26, 2004. Mr. Mayhew was born in Jay on October 31, 1920, the son of Ephriam and Jesse (Brooks) Mayhew. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He worked for over 30 years as a truck driver for Barnett's Oil Service. He was a 37-year member of American Legion Jay Peak Post No. 28, where he was past commander, finance officer, and county commander. He gave a lot of his time and energy to doing anything that he could do to the betterment of the post with his wife at his side. He enjoyed gardening, doing crafts, and making gifts for family members. He liked to have the family come to visit, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On September 16, 1950, he married Clara Nelson, who survives him. He is also survived by his children: Carl Mayhew Jr. and his wife, Margarette, of Florida, Nelson Mayhew and Kari Stringer of Canaan, Richard Mayhew and his wife, Colleen, of Nevada, and Barbara Mayhew and Garth Clark of North Troy; by his grandchildren: Stacey, Carla, Kyle, Kelly, Rod, Greg, and Jacob; by his brother Lawrence Mayhew of New Hampshire; and by his sisters Evelyn Geoffroy of Newport and Mildred Allen and her husband, Herbert, of North Troy. He was predeceased by his brothers Harold and Gordon. Funeral services were held May 29 at Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Newport. , 76, of Barton died peacefully at her home on Monday, May 24, 2004, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Randall was born in Burlington on January 24, 1928, the daughter of Walter and Albertine (Fitzgerald) Sloane. She was a 1945 graduate of Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans. She was the town clerk in Barton from 1969 to 1979 and kept the town books until 1986. She also mentored town employees from 1979 to 1986 and was the administrator of the Barton-Orleans Swim Project from 1957 until 1967. She loved to be with her family. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling with family and friends, knitting, and cooking. She was an avid reader. She made all people who visited feel as if they were part of the family. On September 3, 1949, she married Earle Randall, who survives her. She is also survived by her children: Glen Randall and his wife, Kay, of Barton, Susan Randall and her life partner, Trudy Davis, of Evansville, Lenna Noth of Essex Center, and Gail Hayden and her husband, Eugene III, of Blackstone, Massachusetts; by her grandchildren: Avery and Shanna Randall, Devin Lebrun, Lindsay, Bradley, and Dustin Noth, Veronica Hayden, Kye Randall, and Clark Hayden; and by her great-granddaughter, Sofia Randall. A graveside service was held May 27 at the North Cemetery in Barton with the Reverend Daniel Rupp officiating. Interment followed. , 65, of Barton died in Barton on Friday, May 28, 2004. She was born in Barton on May 24, 1939, the daughter of Lorenzo and Rosilda (Landry) Girouard. Lorette worked as a nurse's aid at Maple Lane Nursing Home several years ago. She enjoyed taking care of her elderly friends' needs at Monitor Manor in Barton. On June 23, 1979, she married Leo Cushing, who predeceased her on January 7, 1993. She is survived by her daughter, Rosalie Fontaine, and her husband, Real Sr., of Barton; her grandchildren, Real Fontaine Jr. of Phoenix, Arizona, Ranita Laramee and her husband, Jason, of Irasburg, Ryan Fontaine of Barton, and Renee Fontaine of Barton; her great-grandson, Connor Laramee; and her sisters, Irene Fournier of Copake, New York, and Jeannette Deslandes of Troy. , 84, of Derby Line, beloved wife of Richard Drown, died in Newport on Monday, May 24, 2004, following a short illness. Mrs. Drown was born Flora Jean Smith in Grand Forks, North Dakota, on April 6, 1920, the daughter of Stephen and Alta (Richards) Smith. She attended public schools in Grand Forks, Washington, D.C., Boulder, Colorado, and Tenafly, New Jersey, where she developed a lifelong interest in music, learning to play the piano and the bassoon. She also played in bands and orchestras and sang in choirs. She earned a bachelor of arts in home economics from the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks in 1943. Following graduation she was employed as a purchasing agent for the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps in Washington, D.C., during World War II. She worked closely with top commanding officers, selecting the textiles for uniforms that clothed all sections of the American Army. This effort earned her a letter of commendation from President Harry S. Truman. She later studied fashion design at the Traphagen School of Design in New York City and went to work for Simplicity Patterns, creating master patterns from which dresses were made. She became a teacher at the Greer School in Hope Farm, New York, before moving to North Troy in the early 1950s, where she met her husband, Richard Drown, and where she taught English, Latin, and French at the high school. She and her husband were married in February 1953. She ended her multifaceted career as the fiscal officer of Orleans County Council of Social Agencies under Tom Hahn. She was an active member in her community. She was a member and choir director of the North Troy Congregational Church and was involved with the Sunday school program. She enjoyed sewing and gave several items to family and friends. She continued her love of music and played the piano. She liked to study history. She enjoyed art and created some of her own. She is survived by her husband, Richard; by her sons: Robert of California, Stephen and his wife, Maria, of Massachusetts, and David and his wife, Deborah, of Massachusetts; by her granddaughter Katherine Drown of Massachusetts; by her stepgranddaughter Dr. Lisa Ercoline-Bhatia of Iowa; and by her brothers Bob Smith and Tom Smith and his wife, Betty, all of Texas. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 2, at the North Troy United Church at 1 p.m. Friends may call at the church from noon until the time of the service. Interment will follow at the North Troy Village Cemetery. , 22, of Barton died in Boston, Massachusetts, on Tuesday, June 1, 2004. Ms. White was born in St. Johnsbury on September 23, 1981, the daughter of David and Katherine (Hayes) White. She was a 2000 graduate of Lake Region Union High School, where she enjoyed playing softball and basketball. More recently she was a student at Northeastern University in Boston. She participated in the Children's Miracle Network and was their champion in 1998. She coached Junior Hoop basketball and loved to show cattle. She loved all types of music and being with her friends, and just enjoying life to the fullest. She is survived by her parents, David and Katherine White, of Barton; by her brother Christopher White of Barton; by her sister Heather Wright and her husband, Scott, of Barton; by her nieces and nephews: Courtney, David, Kaitlyn, and Anthony; by her maternal grandparents, Adrian and Mickie Elwell, of Waitsfield; by her very special friend, Scott Lamonda, of Glover; and by several aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is also survived by her extended family members at WOKO, Fletcher Allen Health Care, and the Children's Hospital in Boston. , 90, of Lake Willoughby in Westmore died peacefully at North Country Hospital on May 19, 2004. Mrs. Pickel was born February 27, 1914, in Brownington, the daughter of Helen and Donat Jarvis. She is remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a devoted companion and partner to her husband, Malcolm Pickel, in business and life itself. Although she enjoyed traveling to exotic places with her husband, she seemed to be most comfortable at home hosting a cocktail party or cookout for friends and family. Her kitchen magnet that states "home is where the heart is" rang true in her lifetime filled with joy and laughter. The couple's Lake Willoughby home was always open to their entire family, visiting "summer folks," dear friends, and their children alike. In her later years, she continued to enjoy working in her garden, baking pies, reading mystery books, playing Scrabble, and watching and feeding the birds and "chippie." She lived one day at a time and loved her family unconditionally. She was predeceased by her husband, Malcolm Pickel; by her siblings Clifford Jarvis and Anita Quintin; and by her daughter Joan Kendall. She is now reunited with them. She is survived by her daughter Randi; by three grandchildren: Elizabeth Borzoie, Malcolm Kendall, and Dr. Aviva Stein and her husband, Jeffrey; by one great-grandchild, Jake Stein; by her brother-in-law, Bob Pickel; and by her nieces and nephews: Merry, Sherry, Kent, Trent, and Steve and Bonnie and their children. , 72, of Concord died suddenly at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury on June 2, 2004. Mrs. Mason was born March 20, 1932, to Bertha (Broughton) Mooney and Joseph Mooney in St. Johnsbury. For many years she worked at Ethan Allen Manufacturing in Orleans, Slalom Ski Wear in Newport, and Henchell Shoes in Littleton, New Hampshire. She retired from Hitchner Manufacturing in Littleton in 1992. She will be most remembered for her dedication to caring for children. She was a loving mother and grandmother, not only to her family. She touched the hearts of many others. For many years she taught choir at the Albany Methodist Church and will be remembered as the "Cookie Lady," "Mom," and "Gram" to many. She leaves behind her daughter Jo-Ellen Sumner of Concord; her pride and joy, grandsons Scott and Dustin Mason; a brother, Melville Mooney, and his wife, Arda, of North Concord; several nieces and nephews; and many extended family members. She was predeceased by her son Perry at birth in 1966; by a brother, Theodore Mooney in 1989; by Theodore's wife, Irene, in 1990; and by sisters Laura Carpenter in 2002 and Marion "Pudgy" Mooney in 2003. , 82, of South Barre died in Barre on Sunday, May 30, 2004. Mr. Gray was born in West Charleston on September 3, 1921, the son of Clarence and Irene (Broe) Gray. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He worked as a store manager for First National Stores and moved to Barre from West Charleston 32 years ago when he was transferred with the store. After retiring from First National, he worked at Howard's Family Market in Barre for six years. He was a member of American Legion Barre Post No. 10 and the Free Will Baptist Church in West Charleston, and he attended the First Baptist Church of Barre. He enjoyed refinishing furniture, going to garage sales, collecting antiques, watching the Boston Red Sox, and traveling throughout Vermont visiting family. On October 25, 1947, he married Muriel Driver, who survives him. He is also survived by his children Nancy Webster and her husband, Bruce, of Colchester and Scott Gray of Winooski; by his grandchildren Todd K. Webster and his wife, Amie, and their son Mason of Sarasota, Florida, and Tanya Webster and her daughters Aleksa and Alyssa and her fiancé, Carl Jenkins, of Colchester; by two great-grandsons expected this summer; by his sisters Viola Hourihan of Falmouth, Maine, and Lorraine Blake of Newport; by his aunt Rose Leslie of Wells; and by nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers Merrill and Clayton. Funeral services were held June 4 at the Free Will Baptist Church in West Charleston with Pastor Craig Thompson of the First Baptist Church of Barre and the Reverend William Wick, chaplain of Norwich University, officiating. Interment followed at the West Charleston Cemetery with full military honrs. , 92, of Newport died Sunday, June 6, 2004, in Newport following a long illness. Mr. Abel was born on April 10, 1912, the son of Henry Abel and Mary (Grady) Abel. On June 15, 1977, he married Margaret Guillmette, who survives him. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was employed as a custodian at the Newport Municipal Building, retiring in 1974. In his earlier years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by three children: Mary Benway and her husband, Wayne, of Virginia, Gloria Thomas of Orleans, and John Abel Jr. and his wife, Louise, of Virginia; by two stepchildren, Darlene Rever and her husband, Gary, of Newport and Philip Dukett and his wife, Sharon, of Newport; by six grandchildren; by five great-grandchildren; by a sister-in-law, Elsie Abel, of Newport; by nephews Henry Abel Jr. and his wife, Janelle, of Newport and Robert Rushlow and his wife, Cheryl, of Virginia; by two grandnephews, Ryan and Todd; and by two grandnieces, Tammi and Lori. He was predeceased by his first wife, Jane Abel, in 1973; by two stepchildren, Leon and Tommy Dukett; by his brother Henry Abel Sr.; by his sister Nellie Mae Rushlow; and by two great-grandchildren.
