, of Walden, passed away suddenly early Friday morning, Oct. 22, 2004, at the age of 90. John was the son of Israel Sr. and Burniece (Anderson) Farrow. He was born right there on "The Evergreen Farm" in Walden, July 12, 1914. He had owned the farm since his father and mother's deaths in August and October of 1959. He was a 1933 graduate of the former Phillips Academy in Danville. John had a keen knack about him; he bought and sold real estate and enjoyed inventing. This trait allowed him to serve the Town of Walden as a lister. He took joy watching his nieces and nephew and their families fish in his stocked trout pond which he built and cared for. John always enjoyed a good competitive game of cards and he loved to dance. He is survived by his brother, Howard "Ted" Farrow of Danville; his sister, Janice Morrill of North Danville; one nephew, Gary J. Farrow of Danville; five nieces, Kay (Farrow) Dewyea of East Fairfield, Lynn (Morrill) Desharnais of Barrington, N.H., Suzanne (Morrill) Bolton of South Burlington, Jane Morrill-Winter of Henniker, N.H., and Sandra (Morrill) Esparza of Fountain Hall, Ariz.; and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Recently he made his home in Morrisville with Blanche Pierce and was grateful for living out his final years independently. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 27, at 2 p.m. at the Danville United Methodist Church. Committal services will follow at the Danville Green Cemetery. , 96, of Concord, N.H., passed away on Oct. 22, 2004, at the Concord Hospice House. Jean was born in Lowell, Mass., on Dec. 1, 1907, a daughter to Frank and Josephine (Elliott) Thompson. Jean was a 1927 graduate of Hopkinton High School and attended Business College in Providence, R.I. Jean traveled extensively with her husband, Floyd Clark, who was in construction. Throughout her life she lived in Littleton, N.H., Miami, Fla., Massina, N.Y., Oceanside, Calif., Trenton, Tenn., Conroe, Texas, and Concord, N.H. While in Littleton, N.H., Jean was employed by the Outlet Clothing Store for many years. Jean was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be remembered for her kindness and loving manner, and will be missed by everyone that knew her. Two sons, Roger L. "Bud" Clark of Concord, N.H., and William H. "Bill" Clark of Trenton, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren survive Jean. Her husband, Floyd predeceased her in 1980. Services will be held on Monday, Oct. 25 at 11 a.m. at the Pillsbury Funeral Home, 101 Union St., Littleton, with the Rev. Thomas Golden officiating. Burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery. , 78, Ridgeview Terrace, died suddenly Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, at his home. He was born in Newton, Mass., the son of William Sr. and Margaret (Coughlin) Bagshaw. He attended local schools in Watertown, Mass., before joining the U.S. Navy and serving his country in World War II. He worked as a plumber in Framingham, Mass., co-owning Framingham Plumbing and Heating. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 3rd Degree, Council 87, of Framingham. He lived in Ashland, Mass., for many years prior to moving to the North Country in 1976 where he owned and operated the North Country Star Motel, Bethlehem, N.H., until 1989. He also worked as a janitor at the Profile High School in Bethlehem. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and was very proud of his family. He was pre-deceased by his wife Ethel (Delaney) and a son David. He is survived by two sons Kenneth Bagshaw of Framingham, Paul Bagshaw of Yelm, Wash.; two daughters, Joanne Roudebush of Norwood, Colo., Kathleen Hewitt of Milford, Mass.; 8 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 6-8 p.m., at the Ross Funeral Home, Whitefield Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Oct. 27, 10:30 a.m., at St. Matthews Church, Whitefield, with Father George Majka officiating. , 81, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, at the St. Johnsbury Health & Rehab Center. The daughter of William and Alice (Kair) Grime, Jean was born March 23, 1923, in Hartford, Conn. Jean was a graduate of Columbia University receiving degrees in English and Theatrics; she taught these subjects at many schools in New York, Long Island and Illinois, to name a few. Jean married Charles Jacobsen on July 2, 1950. She was a member of the Lyndonville United Methodist Church, and she enjoyed teaching and spending time with her family. Jean is survived by her loving husband, Charles, of St. Johnsbury; two sons, William Jacobsen of Florida, and Richard of Denver, Colo.; a brother, Philip K. Grime and wife Elsie of St. Johnsbury; three nephews and a niece, Philip N. Grime of Saco, Maine, Ann M. Worth and husband Gregg and their sons Nathan and Evan of Hyde Park, Thomas and Mar Jean Grime and their daughter Katy of Brownington, and Paul and Bridget Grime and their daughters Hana and Jade of Waterford. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Alice. A calling hour will be Thursday evening, Oct. 28 from 6-7 p.m. at Pearsons Funeral Home located at 70 Church St. in Lyndonville. A memorial service will be held Friday, Oct. 29 at 11 a.m. at the Lyndonville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Barbara Dwyer officiating. Interment will be in the Lyndon Center Cemetery.

, 82, of Fort Worth, Texas, a homemaker, went home to the Lord on angels' wings Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, with her family by her side after a courageous nine-year battle with renal failure. Eva and her twin sister, Effie, were born on Sept. 14, 1922, in St. Johnsbury, Vt., to the late Nicholas E. and Jennie Alger Gentile. In 1946, Eva married Leon Somers and had Michael, after they were divorced she met and married Ernest A. Hutchinson on Nov. 22, 1951. They lived in Goss Hollow, Vt. Ernest adopted Michael and in 1958 they moved their family to North Monroe, N.H. In 1982, Eva and Ernest moved to Titusville, Fla. Ernest passed away on April 1, 1991, and Eva stayed in Florida until 1994 when she moved to Fort Worth, Texas, with Michael. In August 2000, Eva moved to Tandy Village, an assisted living center, staying there until June 2004 when she moved to Shady Grove Nursing Home. Eva was a member of Celebration Worship Center in Arlington, Texas, and American Legion Auxiliary Woodsville, N.H. Besides Ernest and her parents, Eva was predeceased by her sister, Effie, in November 1922; brother, Frank; and granddaughter, Angelique in October 1975. Survivors include her son, Michael and wife Linda of 5269 Dillon Circle, Haltom City, TX 76137; son, Mark; daughter, Vickie Ann; granddaughter, April; and great-grandson, John Ernest, all of 138 Oak Leaf Drive, NRH, TX 76180; sister, Dorena Ames of Galveston, Texas; sisters-in-law, Hazel Andrews of North Woodstock, N.H., and Marilyn Gentile of Berkley, Calif.; brothers-in-law, William Hederman of North Billerica, Mass., and Daniel Hutchinson of East St. Johnsbury; nieces and nephews; and many longtime close friends. , 101, formerly of Water Street, Lancaster, died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at the Morrison Nursing Home, Whitefield. Mrs. Sweet was born in Jefferson, N.H., on Aug. 16, 1903, the daughter of Charles and Musetta (Hadley) Merrow. Ruth was raised in Jefferson and resided most of her lifetime in Lancaster. For many years she worked locally as a waitress at several area restaurants. She was also employed for a time as a foster grandparent at the Play and Learning Center in Lancaster. Prior to her death Ruth was Lancaster's oldest living resident and holder of the Boston Post Cane. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and was a Gold Star Mother. Family members include a son, Richard Brisson and his wife Gloria of Lancaster; a sister, Geneva Martin of Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Kenneth Brisson Jr.; a daughter, Mary Smith; two brothers, Charles Merrow and Albert Bahr; and three sisters, Mildred Kennett, Charlene Fitzmorris and Jeannie Corrigan. There are no visiting hours. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday morning, Oct. 30, at 10 at All Saints Church, Lancaster. Rev. Raymond Ball, pastor, will officiate. , 29, of Danville, Vt., passed away Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004, after a courageous battle with Hodgkin's disease. She was born in St. Johnsbury, Aug. 10, 1975, the daughter of David and Doris (Guyer) Verge. She was a 1993 graduate of Danville High School and participated in basketball and softball. She attended UVM and Lyndon State College and had been employed as a loan officer at Northern Lights Federal Credit Union. She was a member of the American Legion Post Auxiliary. Amy will be remembered as a loving, caring, humorous person. During her illness, it was Amy who comforted the many people who came to comfort her. She learned much when she cared for her grandmother during her illness and enjoyed many special moments at the camp on Harvey's Lake. Amy had a love for animals; the family dog Cosmo was a great comfort to her during her illness, not to mention Cloe, Mittles and Casper. Amy is survived by her parents, David and Doris Verge of Danville (803 Swett Road, 05828); her sister, Allyson Verge of Woodsville and Danville; her boyfriend, Jake Garand of St. Johnsbury; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Memorial services will be take place Saturday, Oct. 30, at 10 a.m. at the Danville Congregational Church. , 58, of Barnet, beloved wife of Albert (Joe) Despins Jr., died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, surrounded by her family after a courageous battle against lung cancer. She was born Oct. 1, 1945, in St. Johnsbury, the daughter of Marion (Reed) and the late Dean Blake Sr. Sandra was a 1963 graduate of St. Johnsbury Academy. She had worked for Howard Time Sales, Vinton Motors, Kelton Motors, McCormick Motors, Wayne Ford Chrysler and most recently, until her illness, at Littleton Coin Company. Sandra truly enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her precious grandchildren. Her favorite pastimes were laying on the beach in Old Orchard, Maine, family cookouts and dancing to country music, especially the group Alabama. Sandra was well-known for her rum cakes and various Christmas cookies. Her infectious smile and great sense of humor brightened the days of everyone who came in contact with her. On Nov. 12, 1966, she married Albert (Joe) Despins Jr., her loving husband, who survives her in Barnet. Other survivors include two sons, Albert (Joey) Despins III and his wife Leann and son Beau of Barnet, and Christopher Despins and his wife Sarah of Groton; grandchildren Kelsi, Korilynn and Dennis Despins of Concord; her mother, Marion Blake of St. Johnsbury; a sister, Carol Earnshaw and her husband James of Goodman, Mo.; a brother, Dean Blake Jr. and his wife Jeannie of West Burke; her mother-in-law, Helen Rainey of Lyndonville; her uncle, Harold Reed of St. Johnsbury; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, and many good friends. Sandra was predeceased by her father; and a son, Cory Steven Despins. A memorial service was held Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Ryegate Corner Presbyterian Church with the Rev. M. , Jr., 72, Bethlehem, N.H., died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, at the Littleton Regional Hospital. Lawrence was born July 20, 1932, in Littleton, N.H. The son of Lawrence G. and Julia B. (Wilkins) Mardin, Lawrence attended schools in Lisbon and Landaff, served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict, was an auto mechanic, he had worked for N.H. Fish and Game for a time. He was a member of the local VFW and enjoyed auto racing. Lawrence is survived by his children, Lorraine M. Stiegler of North Haverhill, Nancy Lou Burbank and Debbie L. Tyler, both of Bath, and Bryan Mardin of Monroe; brothers, Russell P. Mardin and Donald R. Mardin; sister, Joann Woodbury of Bethlehem; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Gerald Mardin. A graveside service was held Tuesday, Oct. 26, at 11 a.m. at the Grove Hill Cemetery in Lisbon with the Rev. Lyn McIntosh officiating.

In 1947, she married Wendell Ferrin who predeceased her in 1997. She is survived by her sons, Mike and Denise Ferrin of East St. Johnsbury, Richard Ferrin of Irasburg, Jeff Ferrin of Orleans, Scott Ferrin and Pattie Phaneuf of Irasburg; and by her grandchildren, Jennifer, Bridget, Tessa, Dakota, Sierra, Dustin, Shannon and Nicole; and by a great-granddaughter, Kayla; and by her brothers, Kenneth and Ruthie Allard of East Haven, Bernard and Joan Allard of Newark; and by her sisters, Hazel and Linda Allard both of Newark; by a cousin, Beatrice of Maine. She was predeceased by her brothers, Dean, Ray and Wayne Allard; and a cousin, Bertha of Maine. She was a member of the Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall of Newport. , 46, of Pond Hill Road, Lunenburg, died Sunday evening Oct. 24, 2004, at Country Village Health Care Center, Lancaster. Judith was born in Gloucester, Mass., on Jan. 22, 1958, the daughter of Henry L. and Eldora (Nelson) Farnsworth. She was raised in Plainfield and later moved to Lancaster where she graduated from White Mountain Regional High School in 1975. She went on to attend Mt. Ida College and Claremont Votec where she acquired a nursing degree. For 18 years she resided in Las Vegas. At first she worked there as a model and later worked many years as a neonatal nurse. She returned to Lancaster and later Lunenburg, and worked as a private duty nurse. Judith enjoyed fashion, interior decorating, cooking and floral arranging. Family members include her husband, Kevin McKearney of Lunenburg; her parents, Henry and Eldora Farnsworth of Lancaster; a brother, Henry L. Farnsworth III of Canaan, N.H.; three sisters, Sandra Farnsworth of Claremont, Dian Kenison of Lancaster, and Linda White of Littleton. She was predeceased by a brother, John Michael Farnsworth, in 1997. Memorial visiting hours were held Wednesday evening from 6-9 p.m. at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A memorial service will be held this morning at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. John C. Gregory of Whitefield will officiate.

, 71, died at his home in East Hardwick Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004. He was born April 16, 1933, in Hardwick the son of Arthur and Alexandra (Brochu) Messier. Robert was a communicant of St. Michael's Church in Greensboro Bend where he married the former Martha Wilson in 1953. Previously he and his family resided in Del Norte, Colo., and later in Winnemucca, Nev., where he was employed in heavy construction. He and his wife returned to East Hardwick in 1995. Robert enjoyed hunting, woodworking, music and especially sugaring. He is survived by his wife, Martha of East Hardwick; his daughters and their spouses, Denise and Yvan Picard of East Hardwick, Jackie and Gary Pilbin of Walden, Cynthia and Gary Rivera of Del Norte, Colo., and Michelle and Gilbert Trujillo of Del Norte, Colo.; by his brothers and their spouses, Gerard and Arlene Messier of Hardwick, Paul and Kathy Messier of South Albany, and Andre and Sybil Messier of Hardwick. Also surviving are six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Robert's family will receive friends Friday evening, Oct. 29 from 7-9 p.m. at the des Groseilliers Funeral Home on Church Street in Hardwick. , 81, of Robin Lane, Lancaster, died suddenly at her home Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004. Mrs. Calderon was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on May 5, 1923, the daughter of Julio and Maria (R?hnner) Cerra. Kathleen was known by many as a Spanish teacher. She was a former resident of Westport, Conn., and San Juan, Puerto Rico, where she taught for many years. She has resided in Lancaster for 15 years and taught Spanish at Weeks Memorial Library. She was a member of the Lancaster Congregational United Church of Christ and was president of the Unity Club. She was also an honorary member of the Phi Beta Gamma teacher's sorority. Family members include her husband, Carlos M. Calderon Sr. of Lancaster; a daughter, Elsa Calderon and her husband Paul Thomas of New Haven, Conn; a granddaughter, Katie; a sister, Maria Tishman of New Jersey; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Carlos M. Calderon Jr., on Nov. 27, 2003, and a sister, Elsa Vebell. There are no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held Saturday morning, Oct. 30, at 10 a.m. at the Lancaster Congregational United Church of Christ. The Rev. Merton Rymph of Lisbon will officiate.

, of Concord, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehab Center at the age of 77. He was born in St. Johnsbury on April 10, 1927, the son of Philemon and Antoinette (Toussaint) Barrett. Mr. Barrett served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He had worked at Fairbanks Scales for over 40 years as an engineer. Paul had many interests including the Vermont National Guard, Vermont State Guard and Civil Air Patrol; deputy sheriff for both Essex and Caledonia counties, and a member of the Concord FAST Squad (EMT). Other activities included the Knights of Columbus, scuba diving, amateur radio and flying as a former pilot. He loved hunting and most of all spending time with family and friends at camp on Miles Pond. On Sept. 27, 1949, he married Bev (Lillicrap) who survives him currently at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehab Center. Other survivors include a son, Maj. Thomas Jay Barren of Hampton, Va., a daughter, Lynn (Barrett) and husband Greg Jenne of Woodbury, N.J.; four grandchildren, Christopher, Laura, Mathew and Sarah; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church Tuesday, Nov. 2, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. , 29, of Orleans, died suddenly on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, in Newport, where he was born on Aug. 21, 1975. He was the only son of Allen and Irene (Pepin) LeBlanc of Orleans. The most special day of his life was the birth of his son, Nicholas, on June 3, 1999, to him and Jennifer Simard. Nicholas and his step-brother Christopher Mitchell, were both the "apples of his eye." Doug is survived by his parents; his maternal grandmother, Aurore Pepin; uncles and aunts, Edward and Linda Pepin, Armand Pepin, Raymand Pepin and Helen McDermott, and Pauline Choquette, who was a "special" friend of his Uncle Paul who passed away a year ago; and also by many cousins. He is also survived by his paternal grandfather, Paul LeBlanc; uncles and aunts, Teddy and Roberta LeBlanc, Carmen and Claude Lamarche, Norman and Ronda LeBlanc, Paulette and Bernard Riendeau, Joanne Hamel and Robin Beaton. He was predeceased by a cousin, Richard (Richie) Pepin in 1985; a cousin, Bernard Riendeau Jr. in 1998; and by his paternal grandmother, Gertrude LeBlanc. He also leaves a special lifetime friend, Alan Young, who he considered "like a brother." Together they shared, from an early age, an interest in dogs, sports, four-wheeling, hunting, and numerous other escapades. Doug was proud of the fact that he achieved his black belt in Tae Kwon Do at the age of 14. Friends may call at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, Darling Hill Road, Newport (formerly Sias Avenue) on Sunday, Oct. 31, from 1 to 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, Nov. 1, at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Orleans at 11 a.m. with the Rev. , 83, of Beverly Drive, Dunedin, Fla., died Oct. 27, 2004, at the Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Fla. She was a Barre native and had a summer residence on Harvey's Lake in West Barnet. Born May 18, 1921, in Barre City, she was the daughter of Clarence F.R. and Grace (Queen) Bishop Sr. She was a graduate of Spaulding High School in Barre. On July 17, 1942, she married Arthur C. Raeder in Fort Riley, Kan. Following his military service in World War II, they made their home in Needham, Mass., for many years. He died Dec. 11, 1986. She had worked as a secretary at the Carter Clothing Mgf. Co. in Needham. Survivors include a daughter, Ann Raeder Hill, who made her home with her mother; two sons, Richard Raeder of Clifton Park, N.Y., and Robert "Cap" Raeder of Needham; six grandchildren and a brother, Clarence F. "Bish" Bishop of Ruskin, Fla. Her funeral will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy St., Barre. Burial will be made in the West Barnet Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4-7 p.m.
