Mrs. Reed was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on October 10, 1922, the daughter of Carl and Margaret Pelzel. She married James Read, who predeceased her. McDermott of Derby, Dave McDermott of Clinton Township, Michigan, and Judy Welch and her husband, Jerry, of Rolla, Missouri; and by five grandchildren. , 89, of Norwalk, Connecticut, died in Newport on Thursday, July 1, 2004. Mrs. Shaw was born in New York City on January 28, 1915, the son of William and Margaret (Penaro) Petrino. She worked as a telephone operator for Southern New England Telephone. She enjoyed shopping, cooking, and both indoor and outdoor gardening. In October 1946 she married David G. Shaw, who predeceased her on March 5, 2003. She is survived by her daughters Deborah Thorpe and Micaela Monroe and her husband, Richard, all of Norwalk; and by her grandchildren Connor and Kate Thorpe. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date. , 77, a longtime resident of Derby, died suddenly at his home on July 3, 2004. Mr. Marsh was born on August 26, 1926, in Brownington, a son of Leon and Ruth Marsh. He graduated from Derby Academy in 1944 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a master carpenter and was the owner of the Bayside Millwork in Newport for 23 years. After retiring, he worked part-time for Bond Auto Parts. He will be forever remembered for his incredible sense of humor and love of gardening. He took great pride in the flower beds surrounding his home. He enjoyed the simple things that life had to offer: garden fresh tomatoes and as always, a huge plate of potatoes. His greatest joy was large gatherings with his family and friends. He left his family surrounded by love. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, who he married on August 21, 1949. He is also survived by his children: Mike Marsh and his wife, Pret, of Newport, Mary Lou Marsh of Burlington, Paul Marsh of Burlington, Gary Marsh of West Palm Beach, Florida, Barbara Holten and her husband, Randy, of Gering, Nebraska, and Donna Galuszka and her husband, Frank, of Ferrisburg; by 16 grandchildren; by three great-grandchildren, who loved and adored him; and by several sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and longtime family friends. He was predeceased by a grandson, Shawn Marsh. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 8, at the Derby Cemetery with the Reverend Roger Fletcher officiating. , 66, of Island Pond died and went on his journey with the Lord, surrounded by his family at his home on Wednesday, June 30, 2004. Mr. Marsden was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, on November 20, 1937, the son of Kenneth and Emma (Blightenburg) Marsden. He served in the U.S. Air Force and worked as a self-employed contractor, spending much of his time doing subcontracting work for Sears. He loved to cook, fish, shop, and play bingo. He also loved his family time with his children, grandchildren, and friends. He loved to help people. On June 28, 1958, he married Pauline Fournier, who survives him. He is also survived by his children: Stephen Marsden and his wife, Christine, of Ansonia, Connecticut, Diana Marsden of Bridgeport, Todd Marsden and his friend, Janice, of Shelton, Connecticut, Mark Marsden of Cheshire, Connecticut, Denise Marsden and her fiancé, Ronnie Pelletiere, of Bridgeport, Kimberly Burdo and her husband, Peter, of St. Charles, Missouri, and Cynthia Marsden of Ansonia; by his brother Ronald Marsden of Nevada; by 12 grandchildren; by four great-grandchildren; and by nieces, nephews, and cousins. , 101, of Indianapolis, Indiana, formerly of Haverhill, New Hampshire, died peacefully June 23, 2004, in Indianapolis. Mrs. Jenkins was born on August 7, 1902, in Toledo, Illinois, a daughter of Volney Eugene and Lola Blanche (Norfolk) Clark. On May 18, 1923, she married Friend Jenkins, who predeceased her on February 14, 1974. She received an associate's degree in education from Eastern Illinois State Teachers College. She taught Latin and English at Haverill Academy. She retired in 1962. Her husband had been headmaster of the academy. She is survived by her nieces Mary Alice Keith and Jane Elenor Schortemeyer, both of Indianapolis. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 9, at the North Troy Cemetery with the Reverend Carl Shoemaker officiating.

, 94, of Newport died peacefully July 2, 2004, in Newport. Mrs. Hunter was born January 26, 1910, in Warwick, Rhode Island, a daughter of John and Mary (Jarvis) Lomas. In 1938 she married Grayden S. Hunter, who predeceased her. During her lifetime she was a secretary for Friend's Bean Company in Boston, and in her later years she was a homemaker. She enjoyed collecting antiques. Throughout her long and full life, she lived in the light of her loving friends and family. She is survived by two children, David C. Hunter and his wife, Lynda Graham-Barber, of Newport Center and John G. Hunter of Barton. Mr. Hoadley was born on November 19, 1954, in Newport, a son of Lucille (Bedard) and the late Stanley Hoadley. On October 20, 1979, he married Jean Trucott, who survives him. He graduated from North Country Union High School in 1972. He was a machinist for Greenfield Industries in Lyndonville. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed spending time at his hunting camp with his family and many friends, playing cribbage, talking racing, hunting, fishing, and riding his four wheeler. He especially enjoyed spending lots of time helping his daughter Angie and her fiancé, Chris, on their farm in Newport Center. Wilfred O. Guillette

, 91, of Derby died at his home on July 1, 2004. Mr. Guillette was born in Massachusetts on June 25, 1913, the son of Euclide and Priscilla (Piquette) Guillette. A longtime resident of Derby, he was well-known as an old-time fiddler and carpenter. He began playing the violin at a young age when his father allowed him to play his violin. He learned to play by listening to records and continually practicing new tunes. He would have one of his nine brothers or sisters turn an old, broken victrola so he could entertain them while babysitting. He went to his first fiddling contest in Craftsbury. He then began to play at numerous contests all over the state including in Hardwick and Montpelier. He won many trophies that still fill his cabinets. His style of playing was accented by his foot tapping and glowing smile. He loved to play the fiddle; it was the highlight of his life. He took great pride in recording his favorite tunes on an album entitled Wilfred Guillette: Old Time Fiddlin'. His wife, Aline, accompanied him by piano whenever he entertained at schools and nursing homes. His grandchildren would clap and dance whenever he played for them in his home. The Guillette home was always filled with music and love. He loved nature and woodworking. In his retirement years, he continued to create objects with wood: birdfeeders, game boards, picnic tables, toy barns, and much more. On September 28, 1935, he married Aline Desjardins, who survives him. He is also survived by his children: Denise Patenaude and her husband, Maurice, of Derby, Robert Guillette and his wife, Germaine, of Derby, and Rachel Campbell and her husband, Maurice, of Island Pond; by his brother Andy Guillette of Derby: his sisters Madeline Messier of Derby and Theresa Beauchesne of Derby; by 11 grandchildren; and by over 30 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Raymond; by his brothers: Lucien, John, and Henry; and by his sisters Jeannette and Marie Anne. , 86, of Bellows Falls died June 29, 2004, in the comfort of her family at home following a brief illness. Mrs. Comstock was born in Holland on June 11, 1918, the daughter of Frank and Maud (Grow) Judd. The family moved to Bradford in 1922. She graduated from Bradford Academy in 1936. She attended Bay Path Institute in Longmeadow, Massachusetts, graduating in 1939. Returning to Bradford after graduation, she was employed as a stenographer and teller at the Bradford National Bank. She married Duane R. Comstock of Westminster in 1943, and they lived in Bellows Falls until her death. She worked part-time at E&G Television, Bellows Falls Cable, and Vermont National Bank in Bellows Falls. She and her husband wintered in Jensen Beach, Florida, for 21 years. She enjoyed camping and fishing with her family. She lavished her family with her many sewing and knitting projects. She was a wonderful baker and was known for her whoopie pies. She was also the family genealogist and traveled around New England and Canada with her research. She and her family had many adventures traveling around the country. Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, David D. Comstock and his wife, Frances "Sue" Parrott, of Bellows Falls and Gary F. Comstock and his partner, Edward "Rafe" Foley, of Port St. Lucie, Florida; two grandsons, Richard "Rick" Comstock and his wife, Sonia, and their children Kylie and Logan of North Walpole, New Hampshire, and Jeremy Comstock of Smyrna, Georgia; one sister, Evelyn Judd Metcalf and her husband, Eugene, of Westminster; and several nieces and nephews. Her brother Robert Judd and her sister Dorothy Judd Henry LaPierre, both of Bradford, predeceased her. A brief service was held at the Fenton and Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls on July 2. , 79, of Troy died July 2, 2004, at her home. Mrs. Cheney was born February 9, 1925, in Newport, a daughter of William and Delia (Corrow) Sanville. On April 2, 1948, she married Leo W. Cheney Jr., who predeceased her February 28, 1992. She was employed for many years at Columbia Forest Products and Slalom Ski Wear. She also owned and operated the Green Valley Restaurant in Troy with her late husband, Leo, for a number of years. They lived in Calabar, Nigeria, Africa, for five years where Mr. Cheney was plant manager for U.S. Plywood. She liked the outdoors. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, cooking, sewing, and knitting. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The couple and their immediate family all helped build their home in Troy, a log cabin, which she loved and enjoyed for the past 26 years. She is survived by her daughter Helen Bernier and her husband, Richard, of Newport; by two grandchildren, Tina de la Bruere and her husband, Raymond, of Newport and Stacie Baker of Essex; by great-grandchildren: Timothy and Brent de la Bruere and Jeret, Katie, and Emily Baker; by two sisters, Silverine Wright of Newport Center and Delphine Spaulding of Newport; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by the following brothers and sisters: Lillian Blake, Idelle Besaw, Dorothy Bullis Britch, Isabelle Wright, Cyril "Hop" Sanville, Grace Gibney, Ella Taylor, Lawrence "Charlie" Sanville, and Adam "John" Sanville. , 77, died Monday, June 28, 2004, at his home in Island Pond after a long battle with cancer and diabetes. He never gave in to either disease, and the cause of death was heart related. Mr. Cahill gave new meaning to the words courage and fortitude, never complaining and always forging on with an undeniable sense of humor in every trying situation. He was born July 11, 1926. He attended local schools and served in the U.S. Army Infantry in Europe during World War II. He received his honorable discharge on May 16, 1946. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 80 in Brighton and was an avid supporter of the Disabled American Veterans. His passions were work and John Wayne Western movies. He particularly enjoyed challenge and became well-known for his ability to fix anything. Survivors include his brother Harold J. Cahill of Island Pond; his sister Madelaine Keenan of St. Albans; sons: Michael Cahill of Randolph, Patrick Cahill of Denver, Colorado, and Timothy Cahill of Phillipsburg, New Jersey; daughters Suzanne Ripley of Frenchtown, New Jersey, and Julia Cahill of Mission, South Dakota; granddaughters Shannon Cahill of Easton, Pennsylvania, and Jaimee Ripley of West Chester, Pennsylvania; grandsons Farean and Joshua Ironshell of Lincoln, Nebraska; stepgrandson and stepgranddaughter Joshua and Emily Howe of Randolph; and numerous nieces and nephews including Gerry Ann Cahill of Barton, Steven Cahill of Windsor, Sean, James, and Catherine Cahill of Brookville, Ontario, and a large contingent in St. Albans. , 80, formerly of Derby Line, died in Newport on Saturday, July 10, 2004, with her family by her side, following a brief illness. Mrs. Brouillette was born in Richford on September 1, 1923, a daughter of Arthur and Lillian (Oliver) Shover. She was a homemaker who also managed to find time to work at the Daylight Store in Derby Line for 15 years. She enjoyed playing her electric organ and liked several different types of music. She also enjoyed playing bingo and cards and knitting and crocheting, giving many of the items to family and friends. She was a great help to many in their endeavors of knitting and crocheting, solving their problems. She was a loving, caring, giving individual. She was devoted to her family and delighted in the company of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On July 13, 1940, she married Max Brouillette, who predeceased her in 1979. She is survived by her children: Karlene Keysar and her husband, Steven, of Newport, Roger Brouillette and his wife, Nancy, of Summerfield, Florida, and Janet Payne and her husband, Ed, of Essex Junction; by her sister Pearl Young of Newport; by seven grandchildren; by two stepgrandchildren; by ten great-grandchildren; by her second family, Tina and Ray; and by other very special friends. She was predeceased by her sisters Ella Oderkirk and Velma Kidder Cheney. , 92, of Barton, beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died peacefully in Barton on Friday, July 9, 2004. Mrs. Conley was born in Barton on March 7, 1912, a daughter of George Harold and Nellie Elaine (Scott) Jenness. She worked as a licensed practical nurse at many nursing homes, including her own on Elm Street in Barton before settling in on the third floor of North Country Hospital, from which she retired. She was a stockholder for the Orleans County Fair Association and the Vermont Nursing Home Association. She enjoyed bowling, berry picking, knitting, gardening, and fishing. In 1934 she married Burton Conley, who predeceased her on January 22, 1983. She is survived by four of her seven siblings: Dorothy Parmelee and her husband, Sam, of New York, Elwin Jenness of New York, Kenneth Jenness and his wife, Ruby, of Morgan, and Walter Jenness and his wife, Joyce, of Derby; by her daughter Betty Walker of Barton; by her grandchildren: Randy Labor of Barton, Timothy Labor and his wife, Sarah, of Barton, and Tammy Griggs and her husband, Keith, of Putney; by eight great-grandchildren; and by many relatives and countless friends. , 72, of Greensboro Bend died Sunday, July 11, 2004, at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Hamel was born June 7, 1932, in Stannard, a son of the late Hector and Helen (Robitaille) Hamel. He attended Stannard public schools. He was a self-employed farmer in Stannard until the farm was sold in the 1960s. He moved to Greensboro Bend where he logged, worked for the town of Stannard on its road crew for several years, and later repaired tractors for Slayton's Garage in Hardwick. He was a member of St. Michael's Church in Greensboro Bend. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, his dog Timber, and visiting friends. There are no known relatives. To honor his request, there will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, July 15, at 10 a.m., at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Greensboro Bend with the Reverend Michael Augustinowitz celebrant. Burial will follow in the family lot in St. Michael's Cemetery. , 71, of Attleboro, Massachusetts, died unexpectedly at his residence on Tuesday, June 29, 2004. Mr. Jenne was the husband of Ruth Mae (Dean) Jenne, who he married in February 1953. Born in Derby on November 7, 1932, he was a son of the late Leland Charles and Doris (Lizotte) Jenne. He was raised and educated in Vermont, where he lived until moving to Attleboro in 1957. He was a 1951 graduate of Barton Academy. He earned his associate's degree in electrical engineering and returned to school and earned his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and business administration from Northeastern University in Boston. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, where he served during the Korean War era from 1951 to 1955. He was employed as an engineer for Texas Instruments in Attleboro for more than 40 years prior to his retirement. A dedicated sports enthusiast, he also enjoyed hiking, gardening, and swimming. In addition to his wife of 51 years, he leaves two daughters, Patricia Jannelle of Attleboro and Debra Burdette of Scotts, North Carolina; a son, David Jenne of Santa Maria, California; three sisters: Allison Jones of Montgomery, Alabama, Linda Lewis of Danville, and Susan Lowry of Shelburne; three brothers: Leonard Lizotte of Newport, Robert Jenne of Orleans, and Roger Jenne of Sierra Vista, Arizona; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Peter J. Jenne, who died on October 30, 2002. Private funeral services were held July 6 with the Reverend Katrina Clinton, pastor of the First Congregational Church of North Attleboro, officiating. Burial followed in the Newell Burying Ground in South Attleboro. , 54, of Westfield died in Lebanon, New Hampshire, on Saturday, July 10, 2004. Mr. Meunier was born in Newport on June 22, 1950, the son of Jean and Laurette (Lapalme) Meunier. He and his cousin Paul Meunier owned and operated Meunier Construction since 1987, a business started by his father, Jean. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed all types of outdoor sports. He went on several different hunting and fishing trips with his friends from camp, including to Canada and several of the United States. He was a past member of the Troy Fire Department and the Jay Peak Ski Patrol. He is survived by his mother, Laurette Meunier; by his siblings: Roger Meunier and his wife, Debbie, of Westfield, Denise Meunier and her friend, Joanne Singer, of Troy, and Daniel Meunier of Troy; by his beloved soul mate, Nancy Vanat, and her family of Westfield; by his nephews Scott Meunier and his wife, Jule, and their family of Jay and Marc Meunier and his wife, Charity, and their family of Troy; by his godchildren Stephanie and Megan; and by several relatives and his "dear deer" friends from the Corrow Basin Camp. He was predeceased by his father, Jean; and by his very good friend Charlie Daigle. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 17, at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Troy at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Jerome Mercure officiating. The family requests no flowers. Should friends desire, contributions in Mr. Meunier's memory may be made to the Troy Fire Department, Box 51, Troy, Vermont 05868.

of Westmore died suddenly Wednesday, July 7, 2004. Mr. Nemeth leaves his mother, Alvina Nemeth; and many dear friends: Viola and Randy Swenson, Dorothy Allard, Fred Allard, Melanie Allard, Keith Allard, Mary Maher, Ann Marie Fleury, Julie MacFarland, and Rodney MacFarland. He attended Cheshire Academy, the University of Tampa, and the University of Miami. He had a special love for Lake Willoughby. "Hot Dog Bob" will no longer be able to serve his Lake Willoughby customers. He will be looking down on his friends, wishing them much happiness.
