, 77, died at the Derby Green nursing home on Sunday, July 25, 2004. Born in Walden, a daughter of Roderick and Mary (Glendenning) Barnes, Ms. Barnes spent most of her life as a teacher, giving of herself unselfishly to her family, friends, and students. Her 38-year career teaching span for the Department of Defense dependents began in Bermuda, then in Goose Bay, Labrador, and ended with her last assignment in England, where she taught sixth grade on the U.S. NATO Air Force Base at Upper Heyford in Oxfordshire. She was a born teacher, not only in the "three R's," but in the arts as well, and during the course she followed, she gained much respect, admiration and appreciation from her students, parents, administrators, and faculty. She also cherished all creatures, both great and small, and gave much love to those she tended over her lifetime with many a chuckle from the stories she had to tell. Everyone who had the privilege of knowing her will remember and miss her - a typical New Englander who was so remarkable. She was the dear sister of Justine Macdivitt of Derby and the late Roderick of California. She was the loving aunt of David and Carol Macdivitt of Newport, Pamela and Jim Galloway of Ontario, Canada, Anne Wass of Ontario, and the late Donald Macdivitt of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; and the cousin of Clifton Rock of Walden. She will be fondly remembered by great-nieces: Robyn, Leigh-Ann, and Terri; by great-nephews: David, Donald, and Michael; by great-great-nieces and nephews; and by other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 31, at the Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Home on Darling Hill Road in Newport at 1:30 p.m. with Deacon Rick O'Donnell officiating. Interment will follow at the Derby Center Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Alzheimer's Association, Green Mountain Chapter, P.O.
