, formerly of 20 Main St., Lyndonville, died Thursday morning, Jan. 22, 2004, at the Pines Rehabilitation and Health Center in Lyndon, at the age of 86. She was born in Travers, Alberta, Canada, July 3, 1917, daughter of the late William J. and Rose (Guenette) St. Cyr. On July 3, 1933, Eva married Irving P. Clifford. Eva served on the altar society at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Lyndonville for many years. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 30 of Lyndonville. She was a talented seamstress who enjoyed cooking and playing bingo. Spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her great enjoyment. Survivors include her son, Ronald Clifford and his wife Norma of Richmond, Vt.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Irene England of Leominster, Mass.; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Geyser of Antioch, Calif.; a special friend, Gladys Davis of Riverton, Vt.; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Irving Clifford, in April 1997; their son, Richard Clifford, in November 1994; her brother, Alphonse St. Cyr; and her sister, Blanche Connors. Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Spring burial will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery. , 91, of Lyndonville, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at the Pines Rehabilitation and Health Center in Lyndon. She was born in St. Johnsbury, Vt., March 29, 1912, daughter of the late Alfred T. and Elizabeth (Thayer) Beck. For many years Mrs. Robinson was an active member of the Lyndon Center Baptist Church and its womens group. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her three daughters, Elizabeth Crockett of Rumford, Maine, Gail O'Connell of Keene, N.H., and Lynn Norris and her husband, Donald, of West Burke, Vt.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Kenneth Benoit; her second husband, to whom she was married for 39 years, J. Earl Robinson, in 1999; two sisters, Marion Persons and Mildred Osborne; and many of her close friends. Honoring Helen's wishes, there will be no services.

, 85, of Piermont, N.H., died Jan. 22 at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital. She was born Dec. 20, 1918, in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of Emil and Emma (Klein) Proshek, and was raised in Waterville, Ohio. She joined the Navy and served as a WAVE in Washington D.C., during World War II. After the war she lived and worked in the Cleveland and Toledo areas. She was in attendance at Cleveland Stadium when Joe DiMaggio's 56-game hitting streak ended. She graduated from Toledo University in 1949, and from Simmons College in 1950. On April 7, 1951, she married George Fremont Ritchie and moved with him to Piermont, N.H. In addition to helping her husband build a successful dairy farm, she raised four children and was active in the community. She was a member of the Piermont Congregational Church where she served as organist, choir member and flower fund chairwoman. She was a longtime member and supporter of the North Country Chorus, participating in their Wales trip and Madrigal Dinners. She was a 4-H leader for many years, and turned out many fine seamstresses. She was a member of Grafton County Farm Bureau and New Hampshire Farm Bureau Women. She also belonged to the Granite State Simmons Club. As a young mother, she belonged to Watch 'Em Pops, a mother's club unique to Piermont. She is survived by her children, Robert and his wife, Patti Ritchie, David Ritchie, Margaret and her husband, Faunce Cleaves, and Mary and her husband, Jim Musty; her grandchildren, Ian, Helen and Aiden Cleaves, and Michael and Matthew Musty, all of Piermont. She was predeceased by her husband; and by her brothers, Paul L. Proshek and Karl E. Proshek. A memorial service celebrating Helen's life will be held Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1 p.m., at the Piermont Congregational Church. , 96, of Ryegate, Vt., passed away at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehab Center in St. Johnsbury Friday, Jan. 23, 2004. She was born May 18, 1907, in Ryegate, the daughter of the late Colin and Ethel (Symes) McDonald. She was predeceased by her husband, Roland Sargent. She and her husband owned and operated the Mapleridge Dairy Farm, where they raised registered Jersey cattle. She was a farm wife and a milk tester for several years, and was secretary and treasurer of the Vermont Jersey Cattle Club for 30 years. She is survived by her four sons and their wives, Philip and Dorothy Sargent of Burlington, N.J., George and Nancy Sargent of Rockville, Conn., Robert and Cheryl Sargent of Ryegate Corner, Vt., and Donald and Diane Sargent of South Ryegate, Vt.; and by 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and by a former daughter-in-law, Rose Socha of Stafford Springs, Conn. , of Lyndonville, Vt., died peacefully Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center where she had resided for the past six years, surrounded by her family and friends. She had just celebrated her 105th birthday a few days before her death. She was born in Helsingor, Denmark, Jan. 19, 1899, the daughter of Niels Peter Roslund and Ida Hildegard Eklof. She came to America during the immigration movement from Europe in the early 1900s at the age of 16, following her brother, Carl, who had immigrated several years earlier and resided in Boston. She found work in factories, but was soon drawn to New York City to work, where she saved every week so she could attend night classes at Columbia University to eventually earn herself a CPA degree, all the while working on Wall Street. She even was able to save enough of her single wage earners income to send her two nephews to college when they became of age. During the Great Depression, she lost her job, but continued to work at any job she could find, until she eventually was employed by the Bulova Watch, Co., where she traveled the world for them. When she had time to relax, she enjoyed playing golf, and continued this into her retirement years. Retiring in the 1950s, she met Richard A. Minet, and they were married. They built a home in East Northport, N.Y., and spent winters in Florida. She was an avid gardener who spent her time canning and preserving produce from her gardens. Her flower gardens contained many rare and unusual varieties, and brought her many accolades. She was very active in the Trinity Episcopal Church in Northport, N.Y., assisting with fund-raising and the church women's group. She is survived by a nephew, Walter Edwin Roslund and his wife, Martha, of Fort Meyers, Fla.; a niece (by marriage) Marion Jeffrey of Newbury Park, Calif.; three great-nephews, Arthur E. Roslund Jr. and his wife, Julia, of Lyndonville, Vt., John E. Roslund of Westport, Conn., and Walter E. Roslund Jr., of Fort Meyers, Fla.; two great-nieces, Susan Roslund Dangel and her husband, Robert, of Wheelock, Vt., and Lane Roslund of Atlanta, Ga.; and several great-great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard, in April 1975; a brother, Carl Axel Valdemar Roslund; a sister, Augusta Roslund Stryhn; and a nephew, Arthur E. Roslund and his wife, Madeline Edie Roslund. Interment will be held in New York in the spring. , 80, of Jefferson Ave., Gilman, Vt., died at his home Friday morning Jan. 23, 2004. Mr. Lunnie was born April 7, 1923, the son of Harold W. and Ruth (Crowell) Lunnie in Concord, Vt. He graduated from Concord High School in 1941. In World War II he served in the First Infantry Division in the European Theater and was present at the Normandy Invasion, the Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes and the Rhineland. He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign ribbon with Bronze Service Arrowhead and the Bronze Star. On Oct. 16, 1948, he married Beverly Folsom of East Concord. He enjoyed a long career with the H.P. Hood Company and retired on June 20, 1983, as district sales manager and ice cream product manager from the Boston, Mass., headquarters. During that time he was working for the company in Concord, N.H., residing there at times during his career. After his retirement, he returned to Vermont and settled in Gilman. He was involved in his community and served as a Lunenburg selectman and as chaplain of the John W. Weeks VFW Post 3041, Lancaster, N.H. He was an active member of the Society of the First Infantry Division, the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Folsom Family Association, and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. He was a 58-year member of the Moose River Masonic Lodge 82 in Concord, Vt. An avid outdoorsman, Paul loved to hunt and fish and was especially fond of spending time at the old family property at Royalston Corner in Concord, Vt. His Journal for the 3rd Battalion 26th Infantry, First Infantry Division from Nov. 1, 1942, through June 2, 1945, with John D. Stromer, was recently published by Don Marbys historical Text Archive. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Beverly, of Gilman; two sons and their wives, David Lunnie and his wife, Star, of Concord, Vt., Daniel Lunnie and his wife, Laurie, of Lebanon, Maine; grandchildren, Robert Lunnie of Minot, N.D., Maureen Lunnie and Kelley Lunnie, both of Lebanon, Maine, Douglas Lunnie of Brighton, Mass.; a great-grandson Nicholas Lunnie of Minot, N.D.; two sisters, Frances Morehouse and Priscilla Southworth, both of Concord, N.H.; a brother-in-law Richard Willey of Barre, Vt.; a special niece Beth Ann Willey of E. Barre, Vt.; and several other nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday Jan. 27, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster, N.H. , 82, of Concord, Vt. passed away peacefully at home early Monday morning, Jan. 26, 2004, after a long illness. He was born in Bridgewater, Mass. Sept. 6, 1921, the son of William E. Nute Sr. and Marion (Cushman) Nute. He was a Coast Guard veteran of World War II. The Nutes resided in Concord for the past seven years and enjoyed the peacefulness of their Long Hill Road home. They moved to Concord from Bryantville, Mass. Born Sept. 22, 1912 in White Mills, Pa., Rosaline liked to bake, crochet, read, and spend time with her family. Her husband of 40 years, John P. Sommer, preceded her in death on March 6, 1982. Her parents, Nicholas and Anna Demmerle Vogel; one sister; six brothers; and other family also preceded Rosaline. A resident of Brighton Township, Pa. from 1951 to 1998, Rosaline was a member of SS Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church in Beaver, Pa. Rosaline moved to the home of her daughter in Gilman, Vt. in 1998 and then to Holton Point Assisted Living, Lancaster, in Sept. 2002 where she was a member of St. Theresa and St. Leo's Catholic Community, Gilman. Rosaline is survived by her daughter, Kathy Sommer Brown and her husband the Rev. Mr. William J. Brown III of Gilman; grandson Kevin P. She married Kenneth Gadapee, Aug. 31, 1934. Nellie worked as a telephone operator and at the Maple Grove Museum. She was a member of the South Congregational Church of St. Johnsbury. Nellie loved flowers and gardening, and she truly enjoyed feeding the birds. She is survived by her daughter, Virginia and her husband John Dzen of South Windsor; grandson, John Jr. and wife Jennifer Dzen of South Windsor; three great-grandchildren, Daniel, Megan and Adam Dzen; two sisters, Mary Spencer of Lyndonville, Vt., and Mabel Fissette of East St. Johnsbury; and several nieces and nephews. Her husband, Kenneth, predeceased Nellie Aug. 24, 1995. The memorial service will be Friday, April 30, at 2 p.m. at the South Congregational Church, St. Johnsbury, with the Rev. , 82, of Littleton, passed away at the Littleton Regional Hospital on Monday, Jan. 26, 2004. Shirley was born in Whitefield, N.H. May 2, 1921, a daughter to Roy L. and Ethel (Lindsey) Brown. She was raised in Twin Mountain and married Maurice Paradis in 1940. They had four children. After Maurice's death in 1953, Shirley moved to Littleton to raise her four children with her second husband, Edward Simonds, who predeceased her Nov. 7, 2003. They lived in Littleton for over 50 years. Shirley was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and worked in local shoe shops until her retirement. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, reading, and spending time with her family. She is survived by two daughters, Jeanette Paradis Tetreault and her husband Russell of Littleton; Elaine Paradis Smith of Zephyrhills, Fla.; two sons, Richard Paradis and his wife Marie of Greenville, N.C.; Maurice Paradis and his wife Lynne of Littleton; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one brother, Floyd S. Brown of Bethlehem, N.H.; one sister Alice LaRose of Sanford, Maine; and many nieces and nephews. , 97, formerly of Stevensville, Md., passed away at the Morrison Nursing Home in Whitefield, on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004. Evelyn was born in New York City on Dec. 3, 1906, a daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (Acheson) Gilpin. Evelyn attended New York schools, including Julia Richman High School, Eastman Gaines Business School, and the New York University School of Retailing where she studied advertising copywriting. She later wrote advertising for several New York department stores including Lord & Taylor, Saks-Fifth Avenue, and Bloomingdale's. Subsequently she moved to Maine where her family owned hotel properties and handled advertising and publicity for them. In 1961 Evelyn married James H. Crawford, the president and founder of General Electronics, Inc. in Washington, D.C. After his retirement in 1969, they moved to the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Surviving family members include a stepdaughter, Mrs. Robert C. Witham of Naples, Fla.; a niece, Mrs. Samuel J. Williams of Boynton Beach, Fla.; a nephew, George E. McAvoy of Littleton, N.H.; and several grandnieces and nephews. Her husband, James, predeceased her in 1988. Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

, 62, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, at her home in Danville after a three-year battle with lung cancer. Her husband, Richard, and friends close to her affectionately called her "Wifey." She was born in Schenectady, N.Y. Aug. 3, 1941, the daughter of Henry and Marie (Renaud) Laurencelle. She and Richard L. Couture were united in marriage Jan. 16, 1965. Alice was trained as a lab technician and worked in that field at the Old Fitch Clinic. In 1992, Richard and Alice devoted themselves full-time to farming. Alice was particularly fond of caring for the young stock. Her family will always think of her as a devoted wife and mother. She is survived by her husband, Richard (1712 Cormier Road, Danville VT 05828); her son, Lawrence, of the same address; two brothers, Paul Laurencelle of Brownington, and Marc Laurencelle of Brownington; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Henriette Nivens. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Jan. 31 at 1 p.m. at the St. John the Evangelist Church. Burial will be in May at the Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home Friday afternoon, Jan. 30, from 3-5 p.m. The casket will be closed. She was born Nov. 1, 1906 in Lyndonville, daughter of the late Amedee J. and Marie (Tondreau) Lavoie. Miss Lavoie worked as a housekeeper for A. E. Bishop in Lyndon for 32 years. She was known as an excellent cook who enjoyed people and serving her church, St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Lyndonville. Survivors include her sister-in-law, Irene Lavoie of Middlebury; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Anthony and Leonat Lavoie; and her two sisters, Zelima Lavoie, and Simone Sheltra. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 28, at St. Elizabeth Church with the Rev. Stephen Nichols celebrant. Spring burial will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery. , 85, of Cabot, died peacefully, Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born Feb. 5, 1918 in Madison, Wis., daughter of Alfred Schroeder and Alma Laumar. Those who knew Luella will remember her as a gifted jewelry maker, photographer, artist, inveterate traveler, and true lover of nature, antiques, opera and classical music - but most of all, Luella is remembered for her joy and love of simple things, her gift for finding beauty and intimacy in tiny insects, clusters of blue-eyed grass and plain folk. She was a keen observer of natural forms and spent many hours collecting pine cones, shells, flowers, seed pods and anything else she might use as models for her jewelry. Mostly self-taught, she was an expert in gold and silverwork and lapidary. She spent many years in Michigan at the Cranbrook Institute of Science as Museum artist and curator of exhibits, some of which have been preserved in perpetuity. Together, with her life partner, Martha Price, she owned and operated the Craft Shop at Molly's Pond from 1967 until Martha's death in 2000. Luella and Martha were the first women to receive a small business loan in Vermont and Luella was delighted to be the first female awarded Vermont's Businessman of the Year Award. In 1996, Luella was honored as a fellow of the Fairbanks Museum. In her life, Luella was always kind, gentle, loving and ever generous with her friends - and she really loved a good party. She will be greatly missed, yet her deep spirit will live within her friends always. A celebration of her life will be held Sunday, Feb. 1 at 1 p.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, St. Johnsbury. The Rev. Jeanette Tweedy will preside. Reception to follow at the church. , 76, of Lyndonville, died Wednesday evening, Jan. 28, 2004, at the Pines Rehabilitation and Health Center in Lyndon. He was born July 1, 1927, in Peacham, Vt., son of the late Arthur C. and Gladys (Bigelow) Randall. After being raised in West Burke, he served his country in the U.S. Army near the end of World War II. For 12 years he worked as an engineer for the St. Johnsbury and Lamoille County Railroad. He later worked for McLarens Farm Machinery in Passumpsic and then for Stahlers Farm Machinery in Lyndonville as their service and parts manager, retiring in 1989. He enjoyed three of his retirement years living in Bradenton, Fla., before returning home to Lyndonville. Elbert was a life member of the VFW Post 10038 of Lyndonville. Other memberships include the American Legion Post 30 of Lyndon and the Moose Lodge 1779 of St. Johnsbury, where he earned the fellowship degree. He loved children and had a wonderful sense of humor. Survivors include his son, Edward A. Randall and his wife Joyce of Barton; his daughter, Mary Sutherland and her husband Charles of Hall, Mont.; three grandchildren, Jennifer Crapo, Jaime Locke, and Jim Parker; two sisters, Mildred Jurkoic of Springfield, Vt., and Nila Lavoie and her husband Joe of Virginia; several stepchildren and stepgrandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a grandson, John Parker; and his two brothers, Robert and Gordon Randall. Services will be held later in the year and burial will be in Peacham Cemetery. , of St. Johnsbury, died Jan. 28, 2004, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., at the age of 58. She was born Sept. 29, 1945, in Lunenburg, Vt., the daughter of Rupert T. and Mildred M. (Holloway) Wood. Darlene worked for Palmer Brothers Dry Cleaning in St. Johnsbury for the last 17 years. Family time and grandchildren were most important to her. She had a passion for flowers, gardening and also cooking. No one ever left her home hungry. She often gave to others without thinking of herself. Survivors include her husband of 18 years, Cleo J. Dowse of St. Johnsbury; three daughters and their husbands, Connie L. and John Montgomery of Lyndonville, Lori A. and Edward Leonard of St. Johnsbury, and Tammy S. and George Wagner Jr. of West Burke; eight grandchildren, Andrew and Justin Lee, Nicole and Troy Leonard, Hannah and Lilian Wagner, and Sean and Ashley Montgomery; a great-grandson, Jacob Montgomery; her mother, Mildred Wood of Lyndonville; a brother, Brent Wood of St. Johnsbury; three sisters and their husbands, Janice and Bob Jackson of Lyndonville, Rena and Jim Nunn of Waterford, and Lorna and Dewey Persons Sr. of St. Johnsbury; a brother-in-law and his wife, Ralph and Eleanor Bailey of Colorado; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Rupert T. Wood; her infant daughter, Lisa May Darrell; and her brother, Bruce Wood. Visiting hours will be held Sunday, Feb. 1, from 2-4 p.m. at the funeral home. , 89, of Barton, passed away in Barton, Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004. She was born in Conchohocken, Pa., June 14, 1914, the daughter of Bruno and Mary (Mankowski) Kwiatkowski. Jessie was a member of the Barton United Church and a member of the Woman's Fellowship. She was also a 50-year former member of the Crystal Lake Grange. She loved to cook and enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren. On April 6, 1935, Jessie married Harold May, who predeceased her in 1992. She is survived by her children, Fred May and his wife Jane, Mary King and her husband Brian, and Dorothy Hathaway and her husband David, all of Barton; her sisters, Helen Jackson of Boca Raton, Fla., and Virginia Altenhoff of Barton; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Joseph, Walter and Edward. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 31, at the Barton United Church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Caldwell officiating. , 98, of Rogers Hill Road in West Newbury died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, N.H. She was born Aug. 9, 1905 in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of John and Alma (St. John) Egley. When she was 6 years old she moved from Arizona to Chelsea, Vt. where she attended schools. In 1923 she was married to Lloyd B. Rogers of West Newbury, Vt. She was predeceased by her husband in 1983. She has made her home on Rogers Hill Road ever since, where she and her husband ran the family farm for many years. She enjoyed everything there was about farming and being outdoors. She would make meals for many of the hunters that would come to Rogers Hill to hunt deer in November. She enjoyed playing cards and music, but her family always came first no matter what. She is survived by two daughters, May Shearer of St. Albans, Vt. and Polly Van Buren of Newbury, Vt; three sons, Oliver "Bud" Rogers of Bradford, Vt., Theodore "Ted" Rogers of Bradford, Vt. and Steven Rogers of West Newbury, Vt.; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Alma Turner of Palm Bay, Fla.; and one brother, Bruce Roberts of Hendersonville, Tenn. A memorial service will be held Monday, Feb. 2, at 1 p.m. at the West Newbury Church with the Rev. Donald Towle officiating. There are no calling hours. Interment will be in the spring in the family lot in West Newbury Cemetery.

, 90, of Salemtowne Retirement Community in Winston-Salem, N.C., died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at Forsyth Medical Center. Mrs. Drummond was born June 19, 1913, in St. Johnsbury to William Henry and Pearl Douglas Gero. She was educated at St. Johnsbury Academy. On July 17, 1943, she married James Lloyd Drummond. After moving to Winston-Salem, she was a member of Bethabara Moravian Church and also volunteered at Medical Park Hospital. Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband in 1993; an infant daughter, Margaret Jean Drummond on May 26, 1946; and two brothers, Douglas E. Gero and Scott A. Gero. Surviving her are her sisters-in-law, Dorothy D. Collins of St. Johnsbury, and Ruth C. Drummond of Keene, N.H.; nieces Dorothy Spaulding of Cumberland, Maine, Linda Shambo and Patricia Willett, both of Barre, Vt., Marjorie G. French of Seminole, Fla., and Marilyn Hiltz of Keene; two god-children, Cynthia Tuttle Davis of Midlothian, Va., and Harrison Gray Tuttle of Burlington, Vt.; and several grand-nieces and -nephews. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bethabara Moravian Church, conducted by the Rev. Jeff Littrell. Burial will be at a later date in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in St. Johnsbury. There will be no visitation.
