, 89, died Jan. 9, 2004, in St. Johnsbury. He was born in Gil, Mass., April 24, 1914, the son of Gaius and Ruth (Johnson) Barrett. A graduate of the University of New Hampshire in 1936, he received a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering. He later worked for the Curtis Wright Corp. for 35 years in Woodbridge, N.J. From 1969 until 1992, he was the certified safety consultant for OSHA in New York City from which he retired. He then moved to Waterford, Vt., with his wife Alice, who survives him in St. Johnsbury. Robert was a member of the Chemical Engineer and Safety Engineer associations. He was an avid volunteer fireman in Saddle River, N.J. for over 30 years and retired as chief. Other interests included hiking, fishing, camping and canoeing with his children and grandchildren. He was a strong supporter of drama and sporting events, especially Academy football games. In 2001, he celebrated his 65th class reunion from the University of New Hampshire. In 1941, he married Alice (Morrill) Barrett of Littleton, N.H. Survivors of that marriage include a son, Larry and his wife Laura Barrett of Waterford; two daughters, Rachel and her husband Edward Tomosieski of Bloomfield, N.J., and Helen Watson of St. Johnsbury. Other survivors include two brothers, Arthur and his wife Lavonia Barrett of Almsville, Ore., and Paul and his wife Anne Barrett of Westwood, Mass.; one sister, Esther and her husband Sherwood Tuttle of Ft. Thomas, Ky.; eight grandsons; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Susan Ackerson, in 1996. A celebration of life will be held at the Passumpsic Community Baptist Church, Saturday, Jan. 17, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. John Young officiating. Spring burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Littleton. There will be no public visiting hours. , 93, formerly of Bethlehem, N.H., passed away Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at the Lafayette Health Care Center in Franconia, where she resided for the past 12 years. Arelene was born a daughter to John and Sara (Fowler) Hoik Nov. 28, 1910, in Bethlehem Junction, N.H. Arelene attended area schools and in the early years, worked as a waitress at a number of Bethlehem's (long-gone) hotels. She also worked as a telephone operator in Bethlehem. In later years, she worked the desk at Thayer's Hotel in Littleton and operated her antique shop on Mill Street. Arelene enjoyed cooking and gardening, taking great pride in the flowers and shrubs she planted around her homes. She loved animals, especially dogs, cats and horses. In the early days, she enjoyed riding her horse, Roxy, and hiking up nearby mountains. Surviving family members include two sons, John L. Wedick Jr. and his wife Jean of Bethlehem, and David Goldstein and his wife Linda of Mesa, Ariz.; three grandsons, two granddaughters and several great-grandchildren. Two former husbands, John L. "Jake" Wedick Sr. and Harry Goldstein predeceased her; as well as four brothers, Henry, Leon, Lawrence "Larry," Leland "Lee" and her only sister, Freda. A graveside committal service will be held in late spring at the Maple Street Cemetery in Bethlehem. She was born in Derby, Vt., Sept. 23, 1923, the daughter of the late Ernest Don and Hattie E. (Pomeroy) Norris. She married Alexander "Jerry" Jarrosak of West Rutland, Vt., who predeceased her. She was also predeceased by a granddaughter, Nicole Beck; her sisters, Donna Patoine, Ruby and Queenie Norris. She attended Lyndon Institute, and worked for 18 years as a stitcher at Conners and Hoffman in Littleton, N.H., and Manchester Manufacturing in St. Johnsbury, Vt. She was a member of the Sutton Christmas Club, the Lyndon Women's Club, Caledonia Fair (parade), the NVRH Auxiliary, the First Congregational Church of Lyndonville, where she served as a deacon and women's fellowship, Lyndon State College Foundation, past president of the G.F.W.C., VFW Women's Auxiliary, Lyndon Institute Alumni, Lyndonville Information Booth, Stars and Stripes parade director. She is survived by her children, Phil Jarrosak and his wife Sandra of Queensbury, N.Y., Richard W. Jarrosak of Manchester, N.H., Sandra Beck of Litchfield, N.H., Edward Jarrosak and his wife Alana of Lyndonville, Vt., and Carol Fisher and her husband Kermit of Lyndonville; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond Poulin and his wife Leota of Wheelock, Vt., and Ulric Norris of Barton, Vt.; her brother-in-law, Clem Patoine of Sutton, Vt.; her sisters-in-law, Lorraine Norris of Sutton, and Dorothy Norris and Edith Norris; and by numerous nieces and nephews. , 92, of St. Johnsbury, died at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center, Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004. She was born in Lyndonville, March 20, 1911, the daughter of Gustave and Ora (Ouellette) Guyer. Elizabeth worked at various businesses including Maple Town Restaurant, Adams Laundry, Palmer Brothers and White Market in Lyndonville. For many, she will be remembered at Leclerc's Market on Railroad Street. A member of the Ladies of St. Anne, Elizabeth was fond of painting (oil), sewing doll clothes, making cookies for gifts and was a legend with her homemade doughnuts. On Sept. 14, 1941, she married Charles Leclerc, who predeceased her in 1982. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Jane Leclerc of Alameda, Calif.; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Aime Guyer, in 1980. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church, Tuesday, Jan. 13, at 11 a.m. Spring burial will be at Mt. , 77, of Park Street, Barton, passed away in Newport Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004. She was born in Glover Jan. 20, 1926, the daughter of Dale and Marjorie (Bean) Walcott. Charlotte was a 1943 graduate of Barton Academy and a 1946 graduate of Lyndon Teacher's College. She taught school in Danville for two years, then in Barton for 28 years, retiring in 1976. She was a member of the Retired Teacher's Association and a member of the Glover Community Church, where she served as organist for 52 years. On Dec. 18, 1970, Charlotte married Roland E. Locke, who predeceased her March 13, 1993. She is survived by her brother, Alden Walcott and his wife Marilyn of Essex Junction and Venice, Fla.; her nieces and nephews, Cynthia Walcott of Grand Isle, Carlton Walcott of Essex Junction, Stephen Walcott of Fairfax, and Mary Lasher of Columbia, Md.; and her cousins, Robert S. Bean of West Glover, and Carl Rich of Maitland, Fla. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 8, at the Glover Community Church at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Caldwell officiating. , 85, of Pike Street, Groveton, N.H., died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004 at Weeks Memorial Hospital, Lancaster, after a brief illness. Born Oct. 3, 1918 in Magog, Quebec, a daughter of Ralph and Edith (Hartson) Hopps, she has been a resident of Groveton for 80 years. She was a graduate of Groveton High School, Class of 1936. She was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Church and a past member of the Daughters of Isabella. Jessie was a very accepting woman who loved children, playing bingo and doing crossword puzzles. She was always helping others. She worked for Garry and Bea Normandeau for many years, as well as other local families doing housekeeping. Jessie is survived by her son, James "Mickey" McBride of Brookline, N.H.; four grandchildren, Michael McBride of Amesbury, Mass., Barry McBride of Salisbury, Mass., Steven McBride of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Kelsey McBride of Brookline, N.H.; five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Patricia Locke of Groveton; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, James P. McBride in 1986; four sisters, Marjorie Paquette, Dorothy Dumas, Pauline Pierce, and Colleen Fournier; and one brother, Kenneth Hopps. He was born in Pittsfield, Mass., Dec. 10, 1920, the son of Simeon and Harriet (Blessing) Small. Theron served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Good Conduct, EAMETCR with four Bronze Stars, Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, President Unit Citation. He married Ellen V. Connors in Brattleboro, Vt., in 1962. He worked as a master mechanic working on flood control dam's including Union Village, North Hartland, Ball Mtn., and Townshend in Vermont and Littleville Dam in Massachusetts then in demolition for Dunn Brothers in Connecticut. Theron is survived by his loving wife, Ellen V. Small of St. Johnsbury; a stepdaughter, Gwen Kinney and her partner Darlene Ahrens of St. Johnsbury; a daughter, Geraldine Cinqantini and her husband Michael of Greenfield, Mass.; two sisters, Mrs. Norman Barry of West Brookfield, Mass., and Mrs. Harry Johnson of Palmer, Mass.; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was born in Groton, Vt., June 16, 1920, a son of Roger and Sarah (Lawton) Eastman. Larry graduated from Groton High School and served with the Army Air Corp. during World War II. He lived in Bristol, Conn., from 1956 to 1982 where he worked as a machinist for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in Southington, Conn. Upon returning to Vermont in 1982 he worked for the Bradford Veneer Mill for four years. Mr. Eastman was a member of the American Legion Ross-Wood Post 20, the Aircraft Union and the NRA. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed duckpin and candlepin bowling, attended many auctions and was an avid collector. Larry married Mildred Blodgett Aug. 16, 1956 and she predeceased him Dec. 2, 2002. He was also predeceased by three sisters, Esther Murray, Dorothy Magoon and Agnes Eastman; four brothers, Tom, Bart, Howard and Vernold Eastman. Survivors include nine children, Susan Gaylord and her husband Bruce of Newbury, Vt., Thomas Eastman and his wife Deborah of Bristol, Conn., Brenda Eastman of Woodsville, N.H., Brian Eastman and his wife Sandy of Bristol, Conn., John Eastman and his fiancee Kathy of Sutton, Vt., Merry J. , 88, formerly of South Street, Springfield, Vt., died Monday morning, Jan. 12, 2004, at the Hanover Terrace Nursing Home, in Hanover, N.H., following a long illness. She was born Dec. 9, 1915, in St. Bonaventure, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Wilfred and Evelina (Forrest) Laporte. She attended schools in Claremont, N.H., and graduated from St. Mary's High School. On July 27, 1940, she married Prosper S. Hudson in Springfield. She had been a longtime resident of the community, and served as the assistant librarian for the Springfield Town Library for many years. She was a member of St. Mary's Church. Survivors include a son, Alan W. Hudson of Brownsville; a daughter, Patricia J. Muzzy of Lyndonville, Vt.; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband in 1982 and by two brothers and four sisters. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Church in Springfield, with her nephew, the Rev. Mrs. Merrow was born in Waltham, Mass., April 26, 1925, the daughter of Walter and Mildred (Orton) Porter. Raised in Lincoln, Mass., she attended area schools there and was a 1943 graduate of Concord High School, Concord, Mass. Bea also attended Higgins Commercial Machines, a business school, from 1943-1944. From 1944-1946 she was employed as payroll clerk for Hathaway Bakeries in Waltham, Mass. On Oct. 27, 1946, she married Roy E. Merrow and moved to his hometown of Lancaster. She was the manager of the Lancaster Elementary School cafeteria for 20 years, retiring in 1987. She also attended New Hampshire Technical College in Berlin, N.H. In 2002 she received the Mel Gallup Award for outstanding volunteer services. She had been a volunteer at Weeks Hospital since 1987. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, St. Paul's Altar Guild, the American Food School Service, and the New Hampshire Food School Service. She was also a 60-year and lifetime member of the Lincoln Grange, Lincoln, Mass. Family members include her husband, Roy E. Merrow of Lancaster; a daughter, Marilyn Malasky and her husband Michael of Newmarket, N.H.; two sons, Walter Merrow and his wife Donna of Barre, Vt., and Scott Merrow and his wife Karen of Groveton, N.H.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Marilyn "Suzy" Meuwissen of North Fort Meyers, Fla.; and nine nieces and nephews. She was born in Northfield, Vt., July 8, 1918, the daughter of Joseph and Georgia (Barry) Provost and received her education in Northfield schools. On Oct. 12, 1938, she married Carlo Andreoletti in Northfield. Mr. Andreoletti died in 1964. Helena was past matron of the Eastern Star in Wells River, Vt., and also a past president and district deputy of American Legion Auxiliary in Woodsville, N.H. She was a member of St. Augustines Church. Survivors include a son, Gary Andreoletti; daughter-in-law, Sandy Forrest; sister-in-law, Rose Provost; nephew Joe and his wife Cheryle; niece, Brenda and her husband Dana; granddaughters, Carrie, Jessica and Debra; and great-grandchildren, Malcolm, Devin and Kristen. , 96, of West Barnet, Vt., died Jan. 13, 2004 at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehab Center, where she had been a resident for the past five years. She was born in Barnet, Vt., Aug. 30, 1907, the daughter of Leonard L. and Barbara (Roy) Roy. Mrs. Astle graduated from Keene State College in 1928 and was a school teacher at the Joe's Brook School, Waterford School and Peacham School. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, RSVP, AARP and the West Barnet Presbyterian Church, where she also served as a Sunday School teacher. Mrs. Astle was also a member of the Barnet Home Dem. Club, a 4-H leader in Barnet, a member of the Vermont 251 Club, a member of the Pythian Sisters, and a member of Lakeview Grange, West Barnet, the State and National Grange, Pomona and held several offices in subordinate. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph "Bob" Astle June 13, 1998; a great-grandson, Patrick Wayne Garrison; and a son-in-law, Robert Fuller Jr. Survivors include one son, Leonard J. Astle and his wife, Sonja, of Spokane, Wash.; two daughters, Margaret A. Briggs and her husband Harry of St. Johnsbury, Vt., and Natalie A. Fuller of North Concord, Vt.; 13 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A calling hour will be Friday, Jan. 16, from 6:30-8 p.m., at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch St., Woodsville, N.H. A Grange service will be held at 7:45 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral service will be Saturday, Jan. 17, at 10 a.m., in the West Barnet Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John Sanderson officiating. Spring burial will be in the Barnet Center Cemetery. , age 82, a St. Johnsbury resident, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at the Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital. The daughter of Lloyd and Pauline (Post) Parsons, Marion was born Nov. 2, 1921, in Shelburne, Vt. She married Maurice A. Corbeil, May 25, 1943, in Pensacola, Fla. Her greatest joy was her family; they will miss her dearly. Marion is survived by her loving husband, Maurice of St. Johnsbury; daughters, Sheila Amadon and her husband Merlin of Waterford, Maurine Culver and her husband, Van, of St. Johnsbury; a son, Paul M. of St. Johnsbury; a brother, Lloyd Parsons and his wife Julie of Westfield, Mass.; a sister, Margaret Buchanan of Windsor; seven grandchildren, Anne C. Amadon of Augusta, Maine, Peter M. Amadon of Dallas, Texas, Adam Corbeil of New Orleans, La., Nicholas Culver of Burlington, Danielle Corbeil, Caitlin Culver, Elizabeth Culver, all of St. Johnsbury; a great-granddaughter, Ava Macnevins of St. Johnsbury. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Ann Corbeil; and a grandson, Benjamin Culver. , 46, of Log Cabin Lane, Bethlehem, N.H., passed away Monday, Jan. 12, 2004. She was born in Keene, N.H., Sept. 16, 1957, and spent her first years at Crotched Mountain, N.H. From the age of 9 she was raised and cared for by Andrew and Shirley Hunt, now of Lancaster. She lived with the Hunts in Lisbon, Littleton and Lancaster, until moving to Bethlehem two years ago, where she shared a home with Charlene and Eugene Miles and Marie Perkins. Patty was an active businesswoman and community member. She was the founder and owner of PerFecto Business Services of Littleton, N.H., which she established in 1998. She was a member of the National Association of Persons in Supported Employment (APSE), and in July 2000, was the first recipient of the Wendy M. Wood Award for Emerging Leaders in Supported Employment. She subsequently received a commendation from then-Gov. Shaheen that, in part, reads that Patty "embodies the vision, effort, determination, and risk-taking tendencies of Wendy M. Wood ..." Locally, Patty was a member of the Littleton Area Chamber of Commerce, the Northern Gateway Chamber of Commerce and WREN, which recognized her as a "woman of courage and vision in the area of business and economic development" at their Celebration of Women in 2001. In 2003, Patty was elected to sit on the board of directors of the New Hampshire Chapter of APSE. Patty was a presenter for the UNH Institute for Disability, and also made presentations for the New York State Self-Advocacy convention, and at a national convention for APSE. Patty will be remembered for her dry wit and ironic sense of humor. She taught those who knew her that anything is possible and that we must all support each other. She is survived by her former foster parents, Andrew and Shirley Hunt of Lancaster; her housemates and friends, Eugene and Charlene Miles and Marie Perkins; and her many friends and business acquaintances. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Patricia Fecto Memorial Fund, in care of Common Ground, P.O. Box 599, Littleton, NH 03561. Proceeds of this fund will be used to benefit individuals with developmental disabilities in their endeavors to reach their dreams and goals. A memorial service and celebration of Patty's life will be held Friday, Jan. 23, at 1 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Littleton.

, 67, of Danville, Vt., passed away at home with his family at his side, Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Danville, Feb. 15, 1936, the son of Harold and Eda (McCosco) Kittredge. Duane worked at several business interests including: logging, Vance Tree Service, Palmer Brothers, and Fairbanks Scale. He retired from EHV in February 1998 after 15 years of service. Duane enjoyed turkey, deer and rabbit hunting, horse and pony pulling, and camping with family at Tickednaked Pond. He was fond of the trips to Las Vegas and the Fryeburg Fair. He loved snow machining and was a life member of the Es-Ski-Mo Club of Danville. Additionally, Duane was a member of the VT Beagle Club. On May 29, 1954, he married Caroline (Bigelow) Kittredge, who survives him in Danville. Other survivors include a son, Darryl and his wife Deborah and grandson Darryl Duane II, "DJ," and granddaughter Shelby Sue of Barnet; a brother, Calvin and his wife June Kittredge of West Danville; three sisters, Floella and her husband Arthur Touissaint of New Milford, Conn., Mrytle Bell of West Danville, and Shirley and her husband Kenneth Maynard, also of West Danville; many nieces and nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Wilfred Bell. Funeral services will be held at the Danville United Methodist Church, Friday, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Cheney officiating. Spring burial will be in Danville Green Cemetery. , 85, died peacefully at her home in South Burlington Jan. 13, 2004. A native Vermonter, she loved to travel and made trips to every continent except Antarctica, including visits to Australia, New Zealand, Scandinavia, Great Britain, Ireland, Greece, Egypt, South America, Russia and Eastern Europe. Gifted with a brilliant mind, Alice graduated with a bachelor of arts in English literature from Middlebury College in 1940 and earned a Master of Arts in teaching from UVM in 1968. She was an avid reader and writer. Her lifelong journals will be a treasure for generations to come, as she lived an active and varied life from living on a farm in Springfield, Vt., to running a country store in Danville, Vt., to teaching English at South Burlington High School. Alice was always active in her community from baking pies for church suppers, to visiting shut-ins and preparing taxes for the elderly. She was a member of the College Street Congregational Church where she served as an usher and treasurer for many years. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Ladies Oriental Shrine, the Athena Club (past president) and the AAUW. Alice is survived by her daughter, Anne and her husband Robbie Williams; her son, Roger and his wife, Margaret Spaulding; a nephew/son, James N. Atwood; her sister, June A. Bumps; grandsons, Roger and his wife Tammy Beauregard and Robbie and his wife Joanie Beauregard; granddaughter, Julie and her husband Bret Martzke; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Roger F. Spaulding July 25, 1986. Viewing will be held at the Corbin & Palmer Funeral Parlor Friday, Jan. 16, from 4-7 p.m., with Temple Chapter 75 O.E.S. conducting their service at 4:30 p.m. A funeral service to honor her life will be held Saturday, Jan. 17, at 1 p.m., at the College Street Congregational Church in Burlington. , 97, of Lebanon, N.H., died Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at the Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital in Lebanon. She was born in Providence, R.I., Aug. 14, 1906, a daughter of the late Charles and Elmira (Watson) Clark. She grew up in Newton Highlands, Mass., and was a graduate of Newton High School, Class of 1923; and of Mt. Holyoke College, Class of 1927. She began her teaching career at the Dana Hall School and later received her doctorate in zoology from Columbia University in New York in 1935. She was a professor at Hunter College in New York City, where she met and married her husband, the architect J. Walter Severinghaus, July 24, 1943. She continued teaching until she became involved in raising her children, returning to part-time teaching in the 1960s. She and her husband lived in the Westchester suburbs of New York, first in Yonkers and later in Scarsdale. They also maintained summer homes in Old Forge, N.Y., and later in Peacham, Vt., where her father had been raised. Mrs. Severinghaus was very dedicated to environmental organizations: in particular, she was an early board member of the "Friends of the Earth," and was locally active in the "Friends of Scarsdale Parks." She was also active in the Asbury Methodist Church in Crestwood, N.Y. Following her husband's death in 1987 she moved to Brookhaven in Lexington, Mass.; in 2003 she moved to Lebanon to be near to her son and his family. At the time of her death Mrs. Severinghaus was still president of her class from Mt. Holyoke College; she received the Alumnae Association Medal of Honor at her 70th class reunion, and was the only class member to attend her 75th reunion in 2002, at the age of 95. She was predeceased by her husband, J. Walter Severinghaus in 1987; a daughter, Nancy Clark Severinghaus; and two brothers, Russell and Leonard Clark. Survivors include her son, Dr. John Severinghaus of Norwich, Vt.; and two grandchildren, Jonathan Clark Severinghaus and Elena Ysabel "Elysa" Severinghaus. There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held in the spring in Peacham.
