, 82, of Lisbon, N.H., passed away on Nov. 4, 2004, in Keene, N.H., after fighting melanoma skin cancer. Known as "Betty" to her family and friends, she was born on July 5, 1922, in Boston, Mass., and attended Hyde Park High School in Boston. Following high school graduation, she attended Salem State College in Salem, Mass., where she majored in business. Betty graduated from Salem State in 1944 and went on to work for Remington Rand in New York City and then in Boston. After marriage to Warren S. Wetherbee,, of Lisbon, N.H., in January 1952, Betty moved to Lisbon with him. Betty and Warren had three children. Betty will be well remembered in Lisbon for her generous nature and active life in the volunteer community including such organizations as the Daughters of the American Revolution, Littleton Regional Hospital and the Women's Club. One of her favorite activities was serving as chairperson for the Women's Club's Good Citizen Scholarship, awarded annually to an upstanding citizen at Lisbon High School. She is survived by three children and five grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Sunday, Nov. 7, from 4-6 p.m. at the Pillsbury Funeral Home, 77 South Main St., Lisbon, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Lisbon, with Rev. Fr. Daniel Sinibaldi as Celebrant. , 78, of 179 Stanton Road, North Monroe, N.H., died Nov. 8, 2004, at St. Johnsbury, Vt., Health and Rehab Center following an extended illness. He was born in St. Johnsbury, April 19, 1926; graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy, Class of 1944; served in the U.S. Navy during World War II; and graduated from the University of Vermont in 1950. Mr. Stanton owned and operated North Country Farms in Monroe until his retirement in the 1980s. He was a member of the North Monroe United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee; he also had served as a member of the Monroe Consolidated School Board and served as its chairman several times. Upon retirement, Mr. Stanton enjoyed wintering in the Lakes Region of Florida until last year. He also enjoyed skiing and playing tennis. He married Mary W. Ward on May 18, 1952. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Mary W. Stanton, of North Monroe; a daughter, Deborah Regis and her husband Robert of North Monroe; a son, Peter G. Stanton and his wife Cynthia of Monroe; nine grandchildren, Mark Regis, Jillian Regis, Paul Regis, Craig Regis, Amanda Regis, Brittany Regis, Michael Stanton, Nicholas Stanton and Kevin Stanton. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service is being planned for the spring of 2005, and will be held at the North Monroe United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the North Monroe Cemetery. passed away late Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital at the age of 83. The Morrisons were longtime residents of Summer Street and in recent years made their home at 81 Hill St., St. Johnsbury Center (05819). She was well-known at the Farmer's Market for her jams, jellies and pickles. She was born in St. Johnsbury on May 11, 1921, the daughter of Paul and Eliza (Shastany) Sargent. Sarge graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1939, marrying Emerson A. Morrison after the war on Aug. 31, 1946. At St. Johnsbury Academy, Mrs. Morrison supervised afternoon study halls in Room 204 and assisted the girls physical education director with girls' sports. Before the closing of Mt. St. Joseph Academy, she taught physical education there. She retired from the Academy in 1986 as registrar. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, former counselor of the Methodist Youth Fellowship, and a longtime member of the church choir. She belonged to Caledonia Choral Society and was a member of the St. Johnsbury Players. Sarge enjoyed many years as an assistant Girl Scout leader and trained senior Girl Scouts that went to the national Girl Scout Round-up at Button Bay on Lake Champlain in 1961. She also served as a Cub Scout den mother. A good golfer, Sarge was a member of the St. Johnsbury Country Club and was president of the women's golf association in 1962-63. At the former Maple Lanes, she was past president of the bowling league. She was a past member of the executive board of the Community League, an organization recognizing community service. She held office in the Order of Eastern Star and had been mother adviser of the Rainbow Girls. She also taught tennis and girls softball in the St. Johnsbury Youth Recreational Council program. She is survived by Em, her husband of 58 years; daughter, Frances Boardman; son, David Morrison and his wife Melissa; five grandchildren, Elaine Ducharme and her husband Anthony, Patricia Gilding and her husband Barron, Jonathan Morrison and his wife Erica, Lance Boardman Jr. and his wife Angela, and Derek Morrison; and three great-grandchildren, Leia and Peter Gilding and Landon Boardman. Memorial services will be held Saturday, Nov. 13, at 2 p.m., at the Grace United Methodist Church with the pastor, the Rev. John Marshall, officiating. Burial will have taken place at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours. , 67, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004, at the Burlington Health and Rehab Center. He was born Aug. 3, 1937, in Gowanda, N.Y., the son of Leonard and Minnie (Olson) Dawley. He attended local schools and at the age of 15 studied for a year at the University of Chicago. Subsequently, he received his BA from the College of Wooster and his MA from Cornell University. Many years later, he received a paralegal certificate from Woodbury Associates. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960-62. He married Joan (Brunelle) Siekierski in Montpelier in 1963. The couple moved to South Ryegate in 1964 and had maintained residence there ever since. He is survived by his wife of 40 years; two daughters, Andrea Sharp and and her husband Steve of Essex Junction, and Janice Dawley of Burlington; a son, Hugh Dawley and his wife Kelley of Manchester, N.H.; a stepson, Keith Siekierski of Marysville, Wash.; a brother, John Dawley and his wife Margaret of Tonawanda, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and several nieces. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 13, at 1 p.m., in the South Ryegate Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Catherine Cook officiating. , 95, of 40 Pine St., Pittsfield, Mass., died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in St. Johnsbury, Vt., Oct. 25, 1909, the daughter of William B. and Maude E. Simpson Mathews, she was a 1927 graduate of St. Johnsbury Academy. She then was employed at the James A. Impey Insurance Agency of St. Johnsbury. In 1929 she moved to Wellesley, Mass., and was employed for 11 years as bookkeeper at the Hathaway House Bookshop, suppliers of books and supplies for Wellesley College. While living in Wellesley, she was also employed at Lehrer and Madden Insurance Inc., Babson Institute, Lee Chevrolet Co., of Wellesley, Wentworth-Jennings Motor Co., Harlow Irmie Corp., Advance Machine Tools of Newton & Pierson Industries, and S.M. Spenser Manufacturing Co. of Boston. In August 1944, she enlisted in the United States Navy Reserve and served on active duty as a hospital corpsman during World War II, at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Chelsea, Mass., and during the Korean War at the U.S. General Hospital in Newport, R.I., retiring from the U.S.N.R. in 1971. She was a life member of the "Waves National," Mass. Waves Unit 17, "Old Ironside," and a life member of the American Legion Post 68 of Pittsfield. Her active interests were in the Fraternal Order of the Rebekahs, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, serving in the offices of several Rebekah branches. Central Past Noble Grand Assn. 11, Lady Deputies Assn., and Patriarch Militant Branch. Her fraternal memberships were in Olive Branch Rebekah Lodge 4 of St. Johnsbury, Vt., the Alfred S. Pinkerton Rebekah Lodge 205 of Wellesley, Mass., Summer P. Lawrence Rebekah Lodge 177 of Newton, Mass., and Lucy Webb Hayes Rebekah Lodge 1260 of Springfield, Mass. She had served as president of the Rebekah Assembly of Mass., from 1969-70, president of the Department Assoc. of the Ladies Auxiliary Patriarch Militant of Massachusetts and Rhode Island from 1977-78. After residing in Wellesley for 45 years, she came to Pittsfield to live with her brother. Miss Mathews was predeceased by her brother, Kenneth, who passed away March 16, 2003. A cousin, Howard McKinstry, of St. Johnsbury, Vt., survives her. Funeral services for Miss Ruth L. Mathews will be Friday, Nov. 12, at 2 p.m., at the Wellington Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Roger Davis, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Calling hours will be from 1-2 p.m. the day of the service with a Rebekah's service at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be Saturday, Nov. 13, at 11 a.m., in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in St. Johnsbury, Vt. , 68, of Littleton, N.H., passed away at the Lafayette Center, Nov. 12, 2004. Joan was born a daughter to John and Winifred (Maye) Cooney on Nov. 14, 1935, in Boston, Mass. She attended Notre Dame Academy and graduated from Roslindale High School. Joan married and had four children. She resided in the Littleton area for many years, and was a resident of the Lane House for the past five years. Surviving family members include one son, Kevin Hastings of Littleton; three daughters, Deborah Pettit of Littleton, Suzanne Wetherbee of Littleton, and Karen Wilkins of Sutton, Vt.; and several grandchildren. One brother predeceased her. The family will receive friends Monday, Nov. 15, from 6:30-8 p.m., at the Pillsbury Funeral Home, 101 Union Street, Littleton, N.H. , 87, of Derby Line, passed away in Newport, Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004. He was born in Brownington, Jan. 13, 1917, the son of Charles Reynolds and Glenn L. (Gallup) Hilliard. He graduated from Orleans High School in 1935. Reynolds was the bookkeeper for Curtis Funeral Home, Inc. from 1937-1940. He then worked in the freight office for Central Pacific Railroad for three years, and finally as a customs office broker at C.S. Emery for 40 years. He was an active member of and an accomplished organist at the First Universalist Church in Derby Line, where he played faithfully for 20 years. He was a Worshipful Master of Memphremagog Lodge 65 F & AM, and a member of the Council, Commandery, 32nd Degree Mason and Shrine. He was also a member of the Lakeside Chapter 27 OES and was their Worthy Patron for two one-year terms. In August 2000, Reynolds published a thoughtful book about his life titled "Growing Up In The Northeast Kingdom." Among other things, Reynolds greatly appreciated the Vermont summers, his raspberries, listening to and playing beautiful music, and spending time with his faithful canine companions. Reynolds was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Glenn Gallup. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 20, at the First Universalist Church in Derby Line at 2 p.m. with the Pastor Brendan Hadash officiating. Interment will follow at the Pleasantview cemetery in Orleans. , of Goffstown, N.H., died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at home surrounded by family and friends following a lengthy illness. She was born in Clarksburg, W.Va., Nov. 6, 1945, the daughter of Ret. Army Major Harold E. Miller and Mary Anne (Cain) Miller, and had been a resident of the area for many years. She graduated from Lyndon Institute in Lyndonville, Vt., in 1965. She worked at the Hillsborough County Nursing Home for 17 years before working for VNA Hospice for six years prior to her illness. Family members include her life partner of 33 years, Suzanne Poirier of Goffstown, N.H.; three sisters, Jean Chase of Passumpsic, Vt., Johnna Daigneault of St. Johnsbury, Vt., and Susan Babcock of Gardner, Maine; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her twin sister, Tech Sergeant Jan R. Woolson. Calling hours will be Sunday, Nov. 14, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., at the J.N. , 93, of Sugar Hill, N.H., passed away at the Lafayette Center in Franconia, N.H., Friday, Nov. 12, 2004. Florence was born a daughter to James and Catherine (Queeny) Stewart, March 1, 1911, in Cambridge, Mass. Florence resided in Lyman, N.H., for most of her life and had been employed by the Lisbon Shoe Company for several years. She had a special attitude and zest for life that set a great example for all who knew her. Florence enjoyed crocheting, watching game shows and feeding the birds. Surviving family members include her daughter, Alice Hunt of Sugar Hill, N.H.; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Her husband, Walter Parker, predeceased her in 2002. A celebration of her life will be held Monday, Nov. 15, at 1 p.m., at the Pillsbury Funeral Home, 77 South Main St., Lisbon, N.H., with the Rev. Lyn O. McIntosh officiating. , 87, of Bethlehem Road, Bethlehem, N.H., passed away, Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at the Morrison Nursing Home in Whitefield, N.H. Martha was born a daughter to Harry J. and Elizabeth (Laflamme) Bishop, Aug. 3, 1917, in Bethlehem, N.H. Martha was a 1934 graduate of Bethlehem High School, graduated from Colby Junior College and then went on to graduate from Keene State College with a teaching degree. She taught elementary school for the Landaff Blue School, West Lebanon School District, and Lakeway Elementary School District for a teaching career of over 30 years. Martha was active for many years in the Littleton Squares square dance club as well as the Bethlehem Country Club. She was a member of the Congregational Church in Littleton. Surviving family members include one son, Jon Wood and his wife Lori; three grandchildren, Christopher, Lindsay and Skylar, all of Littleton, N.H.; and one stepson, Richard Wood of Cornish, N.H. Her husband, Robert Wood, predeceased her in 1998. , 102, of North Haverhill, N.H., passed away at the Grafton County Nursing Home, Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004. Viola was born a daughter to Francis and Rosalee Herteau, Sept. 12, 1902, in Lebanon, N.H. Surviving family members include a daughter-in-law, Lucille Payette of Florida; nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Her husband, Albani Payette; one son, James A. Payette; one brother, and two sisters, predeceased her. A celebration of her life was held Nov. 13 at the Pillsbury Funeral Home in Littleton with the Rev. Fr. John Fleming as celebrant. Burial followed in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Lebanon, N.H.
