, of Concord, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehab Center at the age of 77. He was born in St. Johnsbury on April 10, 1927, the son of Philemon and Antoinette (Toussaint) Barrett. Mr. Barrett served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He had worked at Fairbanks Scales for over 40 years as an engineer. Paul had many interests including the Vermont National Guard, Vermont State Guard and Civil Air Patrol; deputy sheriff for both Essex and Caledonia counties, and a member of the Concord FAST Squad (EMT). Other activities included the Knights of Columbus, scuba diving, amateur radio and flying as a former pilot. He loved hunting and most of all spending time with family and friends at camp on Miles Pond. On Sept. 25, 1949, he married Bev (Lillicrap) who survives him currently at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehab Center. Other survivors include a son, Maj. Thomas Jay Barrett of Hampton, Va.; a daughter, Lynn (Barrett) and her husband Greg Jenne of Woodbury, N.J.; four grandchildren, Christopher, Laura, Matthew and Sarah; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers; two sisters; and a grandson, Benjamin Jenne. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church Tuesday, Nov. 2, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. , 51, of 15 Forest Ave., St. Johnsbury, passed away at home Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, after having been recently diagnosed with cancer. Lee faced his brief illness courageously and was very concerned for his friends and family. He was born in St. Johnsbury, July 3, 1953, the son of Walter and Mary (Provost) Smith. He married Susan Douglas June 8, 1985. Lee graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1971. He worked for various railroads for over 20 years. He had worked as a machinist at Lydall Westex for the past six years; he worked his last day on Sept. 24. He is survived by his wife, Susan Douglas Smith of St. Johnsbury; two brothers, Francis Smith and his wife Irene of Concord, and Robert Smith and his wife Janet of Concord; one sister, Marilyn Gadapee and her husband Wayne of Danville; several nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law, Helen Laberge and her husband Bob of Monroe, N.H.; and a brother-in-law, Michael Douglas and his wife Cheryl of Wheelock. He was predeceased by his mother, Mary, in 1974; his father, Walter, in 1989; two brothers, Reginald, in 1987, and Dale, in 1998; and by his father-in-law, Marvin Douglas of Rutland, in 2001. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Nov. 3, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Danville. The Rev. Stephen Nichols will be the celebrant. Burial will follow at the Danville Green Cemetery. , 60, of 46 Cherry St., St. Johnsbury, died unexpectedly at his camp in Granby, Oct. 29, 2004. He was born in St. Johnsbury, Oct. 20, 1944, to Gordon and Shirley (Rogers) Boardman. He attended St. Johnsbury schools and graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1962. He was inducted into the Navy in 1962 and was stationed at the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Fla. A car accident in 1967 left him partially disabled. A stroke in 2003 added to his disability. Jim's various health issues had complicated his life for many years. Jim worked in a variety of jobs, but preferred being his own boss. His quick wit and great sense of humor were very entertaining, whether he was telling a story or involved in a practical joke. He knew how to do many things and enjoyed many areas of interest including motorcycles, the outdoors and hunting. His truck was immaculately cared for. The stone walls he built reflect the perfection he sought. He was interested in local history and antiques. Spending time with his friends and at his camp in Granby were his greatest pleasures. Jim was fiercely independent and lived his life his own way. He is survived by his mother, Shirley Boardman; two sisters, Bonnie Griffin and Julie Boardman; a sister-in-law, Fran Boardman; four aunts, Dorothy Cimino of Newark, Del., Vivian Freeman of Orange, Vt., Frieda Powell of Bushnell, Fla., and Phyllis Powers of Lyndonville, Vt.; four nieces, Aryn Holloway and husband Blaine, Michelle Griffin and friend Lee Smith, Elaine Ducharme and husband Anthony, and Norene Menard and her husband Stephen Johnson; three nephews, Callan Boardman, Lance Boardman Jr. and wife Angela, and Brendan Boardman; and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his father, Gordon Boardman; a brother, Lance Boardman; and a brother-in-law, Michael Griffin. Jim is also survived by his many loving and loyal friends. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, at 2 p.m., at the North Congregational Church in St. Johnsbury with the Rev. Jay Sprout officiating. , 86, of Agawam, Mass., died Sunday evening, Oct. 31, 2004, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Mass. Mrs. Caron was born the oldest of nine children in Guildhall, Vt., Nov. 10, 1917, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Hardy) Cantin. Virginia was raised in Guildhall where she attended local schools and was a graduate of Lancaster Academy. She married a mechanic/heavy equipment operator and had five children. From early morning until late night she worked as a registered nurse at Brightlook Hospital in St. Johnsbury, Vt., and Springfield Hospital in Springfield, Mass., to help feed, clothe and care for her brood. For a time she was also employed at the Kent Nursing home in Lancaster, N.H. She endured plenty of life's ups and downs and witnessed so many of the big events of modern history that she became a living, breathing historian for her family and friends. Nowhere was there a sweeter, kinder matriarch. She always acknowledged a birthday or event with a card or a call, and kept track of births and weddings as the family grew to hundreds. She was a communicant of All Saints Church, Lancaster, and St. John the Evangelist, Agawam. Family members include three sons, George H. Caron of Tannersville, Pa., Donald F. Caron of Monroe, N.H., and Douglas E. Caron of West Springfield, Mass.; two daughters, Janet A. Seymour of Springfield, Mass., and Luanne M. Caron of Agawam, Mass.; three brothers, Harland Cantin of Guildhall, Vt., Leonard Cantin of East Haven, Vt., and Wallace Baker of Lancaster; a sister, Josephine Ball of Gilman, Vt.; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph W. Caron; and three brothers, William Cantin, Philip Cantin and Arnold Cantin; and a sister, Madeline Rosebrook. Visiting hours will be held Thursday afternoon and evening, Nov. 4, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday morning at 10 a.m. at All Saints Church, Lancaster. The Rev. Raymond Ball, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Lancaster.

, 83, a resident of East Hardwick, died Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, at the home of her daughter, Janice Maxfield, in Craftsbury. She was born in St. Johnsbury, March 15, 1921, the daughter of Harry and Lillian (Boomhower) Blodgett. She married Floyd H. Hunt March 15, 1937. They owned and operated a dairy farm in Craftsbury, and Vergenia also worked at the Ware Knitters in Hardwick and later as a cook for Sterling and Craftsbury Academy. Floyd and Vergenia sold the farm and moved to East Hardwick in the late 1970s. She enjoyed her family and did various craft work such as sewing, embroidery and braiding rugs. She leaves a daughter, Janice Maxfield and her husband James of Craftsbury; a brother, David Blodgett and his wife Dora of Lyndonville; two sisters, Helen Edwards and her husband Frank of Fresno, Calif., and Rosemary Cole and her husband Albert of Claremont, N.H.; eight grandchildren, Jasmin LeBlanc, Melissa Maxfield, Ashley Maxfield, Katelyn Maxfield, Valerie Hunt, Ann Hunt, David Hunt and Robert Hunt; and one great-grandson, Hunter LeBlanc. She was predeceased by her husband, Floyd; and a son, David Hunt and his wife Marilyn. A funeral service will be held Thursday, Nov. 4, at 11 a.m., at the East Burke Congregational Church with the Rev. Sidney Lambert officiating. Interment will follow in the East Haven Cemetery. , 74, of Camp Road, East Burke, Vt., died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at home. He was the husband of Noella (LaMontagne) Soucy. They celebrated their 50th anniversary Oct. 16. Born in Lincoln, R.I., a son of the late Laurent and Marie (Matthew) Soucy, he had lived in Lincoln and Cumberland, R.I., most of his life. Twenty years ago, he and his wife built a hunting camp in East Burke and over the years have transformed it to their present home. It became their full-time residence in 2001. Mr. Soucy was employed for 37 years as a toolmaker for Northrup Corporation. He retired in 1994. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and a former member of the National Rifle Association. Survivors, including his wife, are three sons, Ronald Soucy of Vermont, Raymond Soucy of California, and Robert Soucy of Vermont; four daughters, Donna Sidla of Cumberland, Denise Field of Franklin, Mass., Diane McMahon of Lincoln, and Debra Dunbar of Vermont; four brothers, Gerard Soucy of Pawtucket, R.I., Lawrence Soucy of Pawtucket, Robert Soucy of Pawtucket, and Alcide Soucy of Lincoln; four sisters, Theresa Daigle of New York, Irene Soucy of Providence, R.I., Rita Dube of Providence, and Doris Pullano of Cumberland; and 12 grandchildren. His funeral will be held Wednesday, Nov. 3, at 8:15 a.m., at the Lincoln Funeral Home, 1501 Lonsdale Ave., Lincoln, R.I. , of St. Johnsbury, died as the result of an automobile accident Sunday evening, Oct. 31, 2004, at the age of 46. He was born June 2, 1958, in Lebanon, N.H., and grew up in Enfield, N.H., one of eight children born to Robert Sr. and Lena (Guerin) Judd. Stanley was a very caring man and thought of others first. He was a janitor at Gold Crown Lanes since 1992 and lived with his best friend and caring companion, Roy Blanchard, at 65 Ledgewood Drive in St. Johnsbury. Besides Roy he leaves his father and mother, Robert and Lena Judd of Lebanon, N.H.; four brothers, Robert Judd Jr. and his wife Michelle of Junction City, Kan., Jerry Judd and his wife Marjorie of Randolph, Vt., Danny Judd and his girlfriend Kelly McCarthy of Lebanon, N.H., Scott Judd and his wife Pam of West Lebanon, N.H.; three sisters, Lisa Becker of West Lebanon, Doreen Judd of South Royalton, Vt., Debra Stanley and her husband Donald of Plainfield, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews. , 58, a St. Johnsbury resident, passed away Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at the Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital. Born Feb. 6, 1946, in St. Johnsbury, he was the son of Charles B. and Erma G. (Grapes) Lang. David was a graduate of Lyndon Institute and Lyndon State College. He worked for Vermont Tap and Die Co. in Lyndonville and The Caledonian-Record in St. Johnsbury. David was an avid chess player, was talented on the piano and violin, and was thought highly of by all who knew him. David is survived by his father, Charles B. Lang, and a sister, Lois Williams and her husband David, all of Lyndonville; and five nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Erma, in 1987. Private family services will be held at a later date.

84, of Zapata, Texas, formerly of Jasper County, passed away Oct. 31, 2004, at the Polaski Health Center in Winamac, Ind. He was born Aug. 16, 1920, to the late John and Evelina Noble. He was a master mason and a 50-year member of pipe fitters local 597. Al also loved to hunt and fish, and harness race with his horses, and he was also a World War II veteran in the Navy. Al was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend and will be missed by all who loved him. He was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Denham-Noble of Francesville; a son, Daniel and his wife Diane Noble of Cedar Lake; daughters, Patricia and her husband Jere Kunkle of Valparaiso, Robin and her husband Richard Shippee of Vincennes, and Jacquelyn and her husband Jack McBride of Laporte; a sister, Murial Pelitier of North Concord, Vt.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 6, at noon, at the Frazier Funeral Home-Todd Chapel, 621 Halleck Demotte, IN 46310 with Pastor John Weeks officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday, Nov. 6, from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at noon at the funeral home. , 86, died early Thursday morning, Nov. 4, 2004, after a three-month stay at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehab. He was born on Caledonia Street in St. Johnsbury, the son of Hazen and Christine (Lake) Turner. Hazen served his country in the United States Navy from September 1943 to February 1946. Mr. Turner graduated from Syracuse University in 1952. Hazen was a member of the North Congregational Church where he had been custodian for many years. He was often seen with his dog "Goldie" for daily walks and many will remember his yard sales on Main Street. Survivors include his twin brother, Richard of Greenfield, Mass.; brother, Robert and his wife Trudy of St. Johnsbury; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant sister, Marilyn, and a sister, Virginia Turner, April 25, 2001. A memorial service will be held at Sayles Funeral Home, Saturday, Nov. 6, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Jay Sprout officiating. There will be no visiting hours. Burial will be held later in Lyme, N.H. , 86, an attorney from Terrace Road, Wells River, Vt., died Friday Nov. 5, 2004, at the Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, N.H., after an extended illness. John was born in Waterbury, Vt., on Nov. 10, 1917, the son of Joseph and Concetta (Cerasoli) Morale. John graduated from the University of Alabama in 1940. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II from 1941 to 1945. In 1948 he graduated from Northeastern University. John ran his law office in Wells River for over fifty years. He has been a member of the Bar association since 1956; served as Orange County State's Attorney from 1959 to 1961; served as District Court Judge in Chelsea until March of 1967; member of the National Legal Committee of the VFW; member of Woodsville-Wells River Rotary Club for over fifty years and was a Communicant of St. Eugene's Catholic Church in Wells River as well as serving as a lector. Mr. Morale was predeceased by his wife, Julia (Cahill) Morale on Jan. 17, 2002. Surviving relatives include two daughters, Donna Gagne of Manchester, N.H., and Dorothy Morale of Maysville, Ohio; three grandchildren, U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Joshua Gagne of Camp Pendleton, Calif., Kyle Gagne and Jillian-Marie Gagne, both of Manchester, N.H.; and a very special friend, Marcia Pierce of Bradford, Vt.; several nieces, nephews, cousins and sister-in-law Joyce Morale of Barre, Vt. Calling hours will be held Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, from 6-7:30 p.m. from the Ricker Funeral Home, Birch Street, Woodsville, N.H.
