, 93, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at the Pines Rehabilitation and Health Center, Lyndonville, Vt. She was born in St. Johnsbury, Jan. 20, 1911, the daughter of Herbert and Glenn (Tisdale) Conly. She was a 1929 graduate of St. Johnsbury Academy. Many will remember her years, 1961 to retirement in 1975, as co-owner and bookkeeper at Benoit's in St. Johnsbury. On June 7, 1934, she married George B. Benoit, who predeceased her Jan. 18, 1961. On March 28, 1978, she married Claude B. Johnson, who predeceased her Oct. 20, 1992. Survivors include daughters, Brenda Giordano of Delran, N.J., and Susan Krinsky Horn of Newbern, Va.; sons, Herbert Benoit of Bow, N.H., and Bruce Benoit of East St. Johnsbury; a brother, Douglas Conly of St. Johnsbury; a sister, Mildred Adams of East St. Johnsbury; and 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by a brother, William Conly of East St. Johnsbury. Graveside services will be held at Grove Cemetery, East St. Johnsbury, Saturday, July 17, at 11 a.m. There will be no visiting hours. , 55, of Newark, Vt., died suddenly July 16, 2004 in East Charleston, Vt. He was born Dec. 16, 1948 in Hartford, Conn., a son of Henry and Carmel (Dedona) Blacha. On Oct. 15, 1982, he married Nancy Esidore, who survives him. Mr. Blacha graduated from Springfield, Mass. College with a bachelor of science in human services in 1991. He was an employment counselor for the state of Vermont and also worked during his time for the Department of Corrections. Five years prior to his current employment, he was employed by Martison Industries Sheet Metal Co. of Lyndon. Michael had a passion for the Native American culture. He also enjoyed animals, fishing and nature. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Blacha of Newark; his mother, Carmel Blacha of Fairbanks, Alaska; by the following children, Michelle Lucier and her husband Ron of Limerick, Maine, Candy Fox and her husband James of Sheffield, Vt., Michael Blacha of Meriden, Conn., Carol Cochran of Windom, Conn., Connie Snipes and her husband Melvin of Hendersonville, N.C., and Matthew Blacha of Meriden, Conn.; and by the following grandchildren, Ronnie, Patricia, James, Roy, Anthony, Ryan, Christopher, Alicia, Justin, Alex, Michael, Ashley, Destiny, Jackie, and by the children of Matthew Blacha. He is also survived by a brother, Frank Blacha of Fairbanks, Alaska; a sister, Holly Jedidian of Newington, Conn.; several nieces and nephews; and by his beloved pets, Sinbad, Willow, Sunny and Star. , 51, of West Burke, passed away Friday, July 16, 2004, surrounded by his loving family, after having fought a courageous battle with cancer, at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. He was born March 4, 1953, in Mobile, Ala., the son of Wayne and Loretta (Weidow) Eynon. In 1972, he graduated from the Meridian High School in Meridian, Miss. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1972-1976. On April 9, 1980, he married Michele Noel in Mississippi. In earlier years, Gary was employed as a deputy for the Harrison County Sheriff's Department. In 1991, Gary and his family moved from Mississippi to West Burke, Vt., where he was employed by the Department of Corrections in St. Johnsbury. Most recently, he was employed by CRREL (Security) of Hanover, N.H. He enjoyed firearm shooting, archery and time spent with family and friends. Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Michele of West Burke; three sons, David Eynon and his wife Erin of Camp Lejeune, N.C., Jeremy Eynon of Fort Riley, Kan., and Michael Eynon of West Burke; one stepdaughter, Samantha Jackson and her husband Jeremy of Pittsford, Vt.; one brother, Larry Eynon and his wife, Diane of the Virgin Islands; three sisters, Darlene Dewitt and her husband John, Dory Smith and her husband John, and Karen Pope and her husband Mike, all of Meridian, Miss.; as well as several nieces and nephews. Gary also leaves behind his in-laws, Lorenzo and June Noel of Gulfport, Miss., brothers-in-law, Dan Noel and his wife Lisa of Gulfport, Miss., and Russell Noel of Chelsea, Vt.; sisters-in-law, Cynthia Hartman of Biloxi, Miss., Barbara Tiedman and her husband Chris of Jacksonville, Fla., and Nicole Riley and her husband John of Fort Hood, Texas. , 78, died Friday afternoon, July 16, 2004, at his home, 75 South St., Lyndonville, Vt. He was born Oct. 2, 1925, in Barre, Vt., the youngest son of Robert Thomas and Ina Gallett McKnight. He attended elementary school in Barre and graduated from Montpelier High School June 11, 1942; from Vermont Junior College June 6, 1948; and from Syracuse University June 5, 1950. After the death of his son Richard in 1976, Fred prepared for a change in careers. On Jan. 2, 1978, he received an associate of science degree from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. At that time, he was elected to the Honorary Scholastic Society, Stockbridge School of Agriculture of the University of Massachusetts, 1978. Fred was married on Sept. 3, 1950 to L. Jeannette Zimmer of Syracuse and Turin, N.Y. He enlisted in the United States Navy at age 17, fresh out of high school, and served on the battleship U.S.S. Nevada, with tours of duty in Normandy, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. At the close of World War II, he was assigned to the Discharge Center, Enlisted Records PSC, in Jacksonville, Fla. Fred was employed by the People's National Bank of Barre, Vt., from 1950-1952. He and his family moved to the Northeast Kingdom, where from 1952 to 1976, he was employed as claims adjuster for Farm Bureau Insurance Company (the name was later changed to Nationwide Insurance Company). After completing his course of study in agronomy at the Stockbridge School of Agriculture at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, he was employed by the St. Johnsbury Country Club as golf course superintendent from 1978 until his retirement in 1987. Fred was born with a "golfing" gene and had three uncles who were golf club professionals. During the 1960s, he was dubbed with the nickname "Steady Freddy" because of his skill on the putting green. He won the Vermont State Amateur Golf Championship in 1964, and was runner-up in 1963 and 1965. Among his golfing honors was the Vermont State Four-Ball Championship in 1959; the St. Johnsbury Country Club President's Cup in 1970 (he was runner-up in 1969); and the St. Johnsbury Country Club Dubois Memorial in 1970 with Howard McKee. Fred also served as president of the board of directors at the St. Johnsbury Country Club. In 1986, he was elected to the school board for the town of Lyndon, and served in that capacity for six years. In 1981, he became a "clergy-spouse," served on various committees, was a licensed lay-reader and treasurer for St. Peter's Episcopal Mission in Lyndonville, while his wife served as vicar. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, the Rev. L. Jeannette McKnight; one daughter, Bonnie Jean McKnight Fairchild of Westminster West, Vt.; two sons, Frederick Thomas and his wife Cynthia Lee Paris McKnight of Peacham, Vt., William "Bill" Gerald McKnight of Everett, Wash.; four grandchildren, Margaret Fairchild Hutchins and her husband Jeremy of Dummerston, Vt., Stephen Douglas Fairchild of Dover, Vt., Dylan Forrest Paris McKnight of New London, Conn., and Tristan Frederick Paris McKnight, a student at the University of Vermont in Burlington, Vt. Visiting hours will be held at Pearsons Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Lyndonville, Vt., Monday, July 19, from 6-8 p.m. Interment will be in the family plot at Woodmont Cemetery, East Burke, Vt., and Wednesday, July 21, at 11 a.m. The officiant will be the Rev. Robert Castle. A memorial service to celebrate Fred's life will follow at 3 p.m., Wednesday afternoon, July 21, at All Saint's Episcopal Church, Littleton, N.H. The celebrant will be the Rev. , 65, of Littleton, N.H., passed away at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Sunday, July 18, 2004. Helen was born a daughter to James and Pauline (Flye) Pottle on May 12, 1939 in Palermo, Maine. She attended Bessie High School in Albion, Maine. Helen married Claude "Satch" Burgess on April 7, 1956 and moved to Littleton, N.H. She was employed by the Littleton High School as a cook for eight years as well as Burndy for 25 years. She enjoyed gardening, walking and digging clams while at the ocean. Helen was well-known for her cooking. Surviving family members include four daughters, Claudett and Tim Mills of Monroe, N.H., Camy and Roger Bishop of Littleton, N.H., Cathy and Dean Trombley of Bethlehem, N.H., and Cindy Burgess and Roy Hazlett; one brother, Lloyd and Judy Pottle of Ormond Beach, Fla.; one sister, Dorothy and Larry Pooler of Greenville, Maine; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. One brother, Raymond Pottle, predeceased her. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, July 21, from 6-8 p.m. at the Pillsbury Funeral Home, 101 Union Street, Littleton, N.H. , 87, of 186 Main St., Lancaster, N.H., died Monday evening, July 19, 2004, at Country Village Health Care Center. Ms. Gardner was born in Lancaster, Aug. 19, 1916, the daughter of Shirley and Elizabeth (Monahan) Gardner. She attended Lancaster schools and graduated from Lancaster Academy in 1934. She lived in Worcester, Mass., for 25 years, returning to Lancaster in 1995. She was retired from Western Union Telegraph Co. where she worked as bookkeeper and cashier. Hazel was skilled in knitting, crocheting, embroidery, etc., and always had a handwork-project-in-progress until arthritis set into her hands. She leaves a lovely legacy of afghans, bedspreads, tablecloths, etc. Family members include one sister, Eleanor G. White, and one sister-in-law, Veronica Gardner, both of Lancaster; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Glenn B. Gardner and Henry T. Gardner. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in All Saints Catholic Church. The Rev. Raymond Ball, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Summer Street Cemetery. , 67, of Upper Jay, N.Y., died after a brief illness at his Vermont home on 22A in Panton, July 19, 2004. He was born June 27, 1937, in Woodsville, N.H., the son of Richard Prescott and Ruth Lange. He worked in the Navy where he proudly served his country and received an honorable discharge for service. He is best remembered as a farmer and small business construction contractor in Addison County. His last business took him with his wife Marlene to be co-owners of Brookside Inn in Upper Jay, N.Y. He is survived by his wife, Marlene Prescott of Upper Jay; a son, W. Benjamin Prescott and his family of Danville, Va.; a daughter, Megan A. Prescott and her husband of Rockfall Conn.; and brothers, Gordon and Brian Prescott of Virginia Beach, Va. He is also survived by two grandchildren. He was predeceased by his former wife, Nancy M. Scribner of Lyndonville, Vt.; his son, Adam L. Prescott of Panton, Vt.; and two sisters, Joanne Paige and Nita Pickwick. He owned Smitty's Fire Wood, coached his son's T-Ball team, enjoyed spending time with family and friends at camp, enjoyed boating, demolition derby, guns and poker. , 80, passed away Thursday, July 22, 2004, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital. Born July 4, 1924, in Whitefield, N.H., she was the daughter of Donald and Laura (Paquette) Keach. Marjorie graduated from Littleton High School and in 1942 she married Shirley Waldo Bunnell in Concord. He predeceased her in September of 1987. Marjorie's life was her family; they will miss her dearly. Marjorie is survived by four children: Darlina Bunnell Norrie and her husband Bradley of Concord, Reginald Bunnell and his wife Debra of Granby, Lynette Bunnell Merchant and her husband William Sr., Edward Bunnell and his wife Janet, a daughter-in-law Pamela Bunnell, all of Concord; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother Donald Keach Jr.; a sister Dorris Keach Berry, both of Massachusetts. She was predeceased by her son Douglas Bunnell Sr., and by her sister Ruth Keach Missico. At Marjorie's request there will be no services or calling hours. , 99, a long-time resident of Craftsbury, died Friday, July 23, 2004, at the home of her daughter, Marcelle Houde, in St. Johnsbury, where she had been making her home. She was born in Sabrevoie, Quebec, Aug. 13, 1904, the daughter of Heli and Anna (Courville) Boulais. She attended school in Canada and moved to Vermont in 1919 with her family. She was married to Georges L. Menard July 2, 1925, and together they farmed on West Hill in Craftsbury. He died in 1972. Diana was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Craftsbury and a member of the Altar Society. She leaves five sons, Lionel Menard and his wife Jeanette of Southington, Conn., Arthur Menard and his wife Alice of Craftsbury, Ivan Menard of Southington, Conn., Leo Menard and his wife Sharleen of Middletown, Conn., and Armand Menard and his wife Mollie of Wallingford, Conn.; six daughters, Denise Bushy of Meriden, Conn., Marthe Valcour and her husband Andre of Morrisville, Cecile Valcour of Morrisville, Marie Yaeger and her husband Patrick of North Middlesex, Marcelle Houde and her husband Raoul of St. Johnsbury, and Therese Ferguson and her husband John of Palm Harbor, Fla.; one brother, Cyril Boulais of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; 78 grandchildren; and 113 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves a daughter-in-law, Rejeanne Menard of Newington, Conn. , 81, of Jefferson Road, Whitefield, N.H., passed away at his home July 20, 2004. A native of Whitefield, Roland was born a son to Cleophas A. and Esther (Smith) Dorr Nov. 11, 1922. He attended area schools and graduated from Whitefield High School. Roland joined the Navy Oct. 8, 1943, from his employment at Todd-Bath Shipbuilding Co. of South Portland, Maine. After basic training at NTS, Newport, R.I., he was assigned to the Pre-Commissioning Detail of the USS Hancock CV-19 in the Communications Division. He participated in all actions of the ship from commissioning to 1st decommissioning in Bremerton, Wash., including two trips under Magic Carpet. He was awarded the Navy Unit Commendation Medal, the American Defense Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal (5 stars), the Philippine Liberation Medal (2 stars) and Philippine Presidential Unit Citation Medal. Any and all of the many battles were memorable. He was discharged in May 1946 and in October 1946 was married to Pauline Plante. Roland was commissioned by President Eisenhower in March 1959 as postmaster of Littleton, N.H., and was transferred to postmaster in Lancaster, N.H., in 1975. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in April 1984. Since retirement he has operated a shop at his home known as Strawberry Acre Crafts, building clocks and many other items. Surviving family members include one daughter, Anita Dorr Swartz of Livingston, Texas; one brother, James C. Dorr of Sarasota, Fla.; two sisters, Delephine M. Clough of Meredith, N.H., and Dorothy E. Dorr of Whitefield, N.H.; a stepmother, Ellen Dorr of Whitefield, N.H.; two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 27, at 11 a.m., at the Pillsbury Funeral Home, 101 Union St., Littleton, N.H., with the Rev. Lyn McIntosh officiating. , 82, of Camp Street, Barre, Vt., died Saturday, July 24, 2004, at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. Born Sept. 7, 1921, in Hillsdale, N.J., he was the son of Stanford and Kathryn (Haenlin) White Sr. He graduated from Glen Cove, N.Y., High School in 1939. He graduated from Keene, N.H., Teachers College in 1951. During World War II he served as an aviation machinist mate in the United States Navy in Pensacola, Fla., and aboard an aircraft carrier in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre of Operations. On Nov. 21, 1953, he married Marilyn "Lynn" Thompson in St. Johnsbury. Following their marriage, they lived in New Milford, Conn.; Riverhead, Long Island; and since 1970, in Barre. For many years he was an industrial arts teacher as well as a driver's education teacher, retiring from Spaulding High School faculty in 1984. He enjoyed sailing and racing sailboats that he had built, piloting his own plane, coaching peewee and junior varsity hockey at Spaulding High School as well as being varsity hockey coach at Montpelier High School, designing and building homes, and being a school bus driver. A member of the Barre Congregational Church, he was serving on the ushering committee at the time of his death. Survivors besides his widow include a daughter, Pamela White of Barre; three sons, Marshall White and his companion Patti Shedd of Barre, Stuart White and his wife Ginny of Aldie, Va., and Brian White and his companion Jean Rudaitis of Clyde, N.C.; six grandchildren, Sarah Herring, Brittany and Ashley White, Jared and Jehnna White, and Aaron White; a sister, Kathryn Thurston of Sound Beach, Long Island; and nieces and nephews. Two sisters, Priscilla White and Mercedes Rogozenski, predeceased him. His funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 28, at 10 a.m., in the Barre Congregational Church. There are no calling hours. , 75, of Newport, passed away at his home Monday, July 26, 2004. He was born in East Charleston Feb. 4, 1929, the son of Carroll and Flora (Hancock) Green. In school Robert played football, wrestled, ice-skated, bicycled and swam. He also worked on his parents' farm. At one time he owned a Shell Station on Coventry Street then went to work as a milk factory worker at H.P. Hood for many years, retiring in 1962. He volunteered and played the accordion with other visually impaired people who played piano, tambourine, omnicord, and sang to the elderly at local nursing homes. He was also a 4-H leader in the 1970s and taught Morse code and ham radio to the Boy Scouts. He also taught Braille classes for the Vermont Association for the Blind and visually impaired. Music was a large part of his life, playing the accordion, banjo, piano, guitar, keyboard and woodbox drum, which he made himself. He was one of the founders of the Border Amateur Radio Club in 1978. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (known as the Mormans), and a member of the Derby Lions Club. Robert was very intelligent and was a very loving father, and a loving and caring person. On Nov. 11, 1955, Robert married the former Ruth Thelma Storey, who predeceased him in 1990. He is survived by his daughter, Harriett Hall and her husband John of Newport; his grandsons, Joshua Hall and Alfred Hall, both of Newport; his sister, Barbara Young of Coventry; his special friend, Louise Salls of Hardwick; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Memorial Chapel, 37 Lake Road, Newport (formerly Bay Street) Wednesday, July 28, from 7-9 p.m., where funeral services will take place Thursday, July 29, at 2:30 p.m., with Elder Dean Stevens officiating. , 87, formerly of St. Albans, Vt., died at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital early Tuesday morning, July 27, 2004. She was the daughter of Ila Anthony and Ora Winifred Hibbard Wry. After graduating from the College of New Rochelle, Ila taught at the East Rutherford, N.J., High School. She taught later in Vermont at St. Albans City and Fairfield elementary schools and at the Holy Angels Grade School. A St. Albans realtor, she also served after retirement as president of the St. Albans City Council. She was an exceptionally good cook and an avid rose gardener. She is survived by her son and his wife, N. Thomas and Ella Smead Brown; her son and his wife, Frederick W. and E. Jane Dimick Brown; a daughter, Joanne M. Brown; three grandsons, Gregory S. Brown, Dean T. Brown, and Peter D. Kalet; a granddaughter, Jennifer L. Brown; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Neil W. Brown, in 1997; a daughter, Cynthia A. Brown Kalet, in 1995; a daughter, Helen F. Brown, in 1973; two brothers, Dean A. Wry, MD, and Orlin V. Wry, MD, both of New Jersey. Funeral services will be held at Holy Angels Church in St. Albans at 11 a.m. Friday, July 30. Burial will follow in the family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery. , 70, of Bradford, Vt., died Friday, July 23, 2004, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., peacefully with his family by his side. He was born April 25, 1934, in Bradford, the son of Arthur and Katherine (Davis) Kincaid. He attended schools in Bradford. As a young man he worked at a local farm, the Curt-Moore Farm in Bradford and West Fairlee and the Brussian Farm in St. Albans, Vt. He worked on Interstate 89 and 91 during the late 1960s and '70s, operating heavy equipment. Dennis also worked for Fischer Construction of Bradford. He enjoyed many things in life, but his passion was building ponds for many people throughout the surrounding areas. He is survived by one sister, Helen Kincaid of Groton, Vt.; two brothers, Russell Kincaid of Bradford, Vt., and Shawn Kincaid of Lyndon Center, Vt.; and several nieces and nephews. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2004, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., in the Bradford Regional Community Center in Bradford, Vt. Burial will be private and held at a later date. There are no calling hours. , age 83, a lifelong resident of St. Johnsbury, Vt., died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital. Paul was born July 21, 1921, in St. Johnsbury, the son of Joseph Prescott and Edith (Rodgers) Colby. Paul graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy, Class of 1939. He married Marguerite Prefontaine. He loved fishing and camping and wintering in Florida. His family was most important in his life. Paul is survived by his loving wife, Marguerite of St. Johnsbury; daughters, Gloria Molinaroli of St. Johnsbury, Terri Eldridge and her husband Kim of Siloam Springs, Ark., and Sheri Colby Schenck and her husband Jim of Passumpsic, Vt.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Lloyd and Howard. Private services will be at St. Elizabeth's Cemetery in Lyndonville, Vt.

, 96, of St. Johnsbury, Vt., passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at the Canterbury Inn in St. Johnsbury. Harriet was born June 1, 1908, in Magog, Quebec, the daughter of the late Edmond and Augustus Davis. The family moved to the United States where she attended schools in Evansville and Brownington. On April 26, 1926, she married Archie A. Bedard of Lyndonville, Vt.; he predeceased her Feb. 18, 1981. They had three children; their son, Armand, died in infancy. Harriet worked at Glovers in St. Johnsbury and also at Maple Grove for several years. After her retirement, she enjoyed being at home tending her flowers and spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her two daughters, Mrs. Regis (Catherine) Brooks of Worcester, Mass., and Mrs. Ray (Patricia) Cross of St. Johnsbury, Vt; and by eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Saturday, July 31 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Stephen Nichols officiating. Visiting hours will be one hour prior to the service.
