, 66, Topeka, Kan., passed away Sunday, June 20, 2004, at a local hospice following a four-year fight with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). Charlie Albright was born Dec. 1, 1937 in Lyndon Corner Vt., the son of Chesley "Chet" and Winnie Rexford Albright. He arrived in Topeka in the mid-1950s during a four-year tour of duty with the U.S. Air Force. Charlie served as a cook and an ambulance driver with time spent in Morocco before being honorably discharged in 1958 at Forbes Air Force Base. He later went into business for more than 30 years as Albright's Heating and Air Conditioning. Already greatly missed by both family and friends, Charlie Albright leaves behind both a shining business reputation and a low-key, genial lifetime of building a grateful network of friends. That wry smile and ever-present sense of humor was especially appreciated by older people and those who couldn't pay him for his services with anything more than a grateful "thank you." In addition to his wife, Gayle, Charlie is survived by his two daughters, Brenda Little and Cheryl Albright, both of Topeka; seven sisters, Catherine Machell of North Danville Vt., Velma (Susie) Pierce of Barnet Vt., Charlotte Quimby of Waterford Vt., Beverly Harper of Topeka, Kan., Dot Shatney of Concord Vt., Carol Milvae of Lebanon Conn., and Sharon Vergara of Concord Vt.; nine grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
