, 104, of Newport died in Newport on Thursday, April 29, 2004. Mrs. Taylor was born in Lowell on October 14, 1899, the daughter of Herbert Richardson and Mary (Lapierre). On January 23, 1920, she married Harley Taylor. After making their home in Irasburg a short time, they lived the rest of their married life in Lowell. Her husband predeceased her in 1955. She was a member of the United Church of Lowell and served as president of the Ladies Aid for many years. In 1996 she moved to Newport with her daughter Alice England and at that time became a member of the United Church of Newport. Being a World War I widow, she was a member of the Border Barracks Auxiliary No. 2031 through 1991. During her working years, she cooked at Quimby's Lodge in Norton, ski lodges in Stowe and Jay, Brown Ledge Girls' Camp at Lake Champlain, and the hot lunch program at the Lowell Graded School. She spent her last years at the Newport Health Care Center, where she was well cared for and participated in programs that made her last years more active and interesting. She is survived by her daughter Alice England of Newport; and her son Dale Santaw and his wife, Ruth, of Derby. Her extended family includes granddaughters Bonnie Lithway and her husband, Jerry, and Brenda Wesolow and her husband, Ed; her grandsons James and Jeffrey Santaw; her great-grandchildren: Scott, Brian, and Randy Lithway, Nathan, Mike, and Tony Santaw, Kevin, Alan, and Taylor Wesolow, and Stacy and Melissa Santaw; and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother Carl; by her sisters: Alberta, Ruby, and Cora; and by her grandson Jerry Santaw. Funeral services were held May 3 at the United Church of Newport with the Reverend Martha Peck officiating. Interment followed at Mountainview Cemetery in Lowell. , 76, of Naugatuck, Connecticut, died Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at Crescent Manor in Waterbury, Connecticut. She was the wife of Walter Pelchuck. Mrs. Pelchuck was born April 10, 1928, in Middletown, Connecticut, daughter of the late Joseph and Adela (Wendlan) Geromin. She was a 1947 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and attended Post College in Waterbury. She lived in Naugatuck for the past 40 years and was a member of the Naugatuck Historical Society, American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 75 of Middletown, the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, the Military Order of the Purple Heart Ladies Auxiliary Connecticut Chapter No. 196, and the 29th Division Association, New England Post No. 93 Ladies Auxiliary. Her hobbies included gardening, growing house plants, camping, traveling and oil painting. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the Altar Guild and Dorcas Guild. Besides her husband of more than 55 years, she leaves two sons, Gregory Pelchuck of Calais and Gary Pelchuck of Albany and two grandchildren. She was predeceased by fraternal sister Gertrude and by brothers Hugo and Arcady Geromin. A memorial service at St. Paul's Lutheran Church will be held at a time and date to be announced. , 96, of Island Pond died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, April 27, 2004. Mrs. Maxwell was born in Island Pond on May 3, 1907, the daughter of Orrin L. and Mary (Batchelder) Stevens. She was a helpmate to her husband into her 80s with their dairy farm in Island Pond. She attended the former Methodist church in Island Pond. She enjoyed spending time with her family. On July 8, 1928, she married Claude Moulton Maxwell, who predeceased her. She is survived by her children: June Bingham of Charleston, Blaine Maxwell and his wife, Barbara, of Island Pond, Joyce Cross of East Haven, Dwight Maxwell and his wife, Carole, of Island Pond, Robert Maxwell and his wife, Charlene, of Island Pond, and Douglas Maxwell and his wife, Marilyn, of Island Pond; by 24 grandchildren; by 60 great-grandchildren; and by 22 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her siblings: Carl Stevens, Rena Bennett, Gladys Ladd, Vinnie Albee Farr, and Sfa Stevens; by her cousin Jessie Welch; by her grandson William Cross; by her great-granddaughter Michelle Olcott; and by her sons-in-law Ralph Bingham and Wyman Cross. , 61, of Brownington died at her home on Saturday, May 1, 2004. Mrs. Martin was born in Barre on December 14, 1942, the daughter of Curtis and the late Alice (McFarland) Sargent. She graduated from Burdette College in Boston with a degree in accounting. She worked as treasurer for the town of Brownington for over 20 years. She was also a former lister for the town of Brownington and a real estate broker and was on the antique appraisal board. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and her animals and was a dedicated soccer mom. On April 13, 1962, she married Joseph Martin, who survives her. She is also survived by her children: Kirk Martin and his wife, Sheila, of Orleans, Michael Martin and his wife, Shelley, of Danville, and Thomas Martin and his wife, Lee-Anne, of Moretown; by her grandchildren: Beth Anne, Lily, Meridith, Alexander, and Alisa; and by her sister Katherine Frye and her husband, Bill, of Barnet. , 88, of Newport died in Newport on Monday, May 3, 2004. Mr. Lachance was born in Berlin, New Hampshire, on December 11, 1915, the son of Octav Frank and MariAnne (Roy) Lachance. He was a graduate from the Academy of St. Regis in Berlin, New Hampshire, and Berlin High School. He later graduated from Milwaukee Engineering College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He owned and operated Frank's Steakhouse in Newport for 35 years. He was a lifetime member of the Newport Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks No. 2155 and the Knights of Columbus Newport Gibbons Council No. 2285. He enjoyed big game hunting and fishing all over the world and spending time with his family. On July 3, 1956, he married Barbara Wetherby, who predeceased him on December 1, 1994. He is survived by his children: Ann Marie Lachance and her friend, Nick Ouellette, of Morgan, Pierre Lachance and his friend, Tamara Maple, of Newport, and Neil Illingworth and his friend, Mary Blais, of Newport; by his grandchildren Brandyn and Spencer Lachance-Guyette; and by his sisters: Cecile Prive of Newport, Simmone Kline of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Collette Moore of Miami, Florida. Mrs. Hawse, a daughter of Herbert and Nellie (Bragg) Green, was born on December 24, 1909, in Barnston, Quebec. During her lifetime she resided in Holland, Vermont, Quebec, and Wethersfield, Connecticut. As a young woman, she married Harold Hawse, who predeceased her in 1972. She enjoyed her grandchildren and camping at Lake Seymour with her sisters and their families. Other hobbies included crocheting and embroidery. She is survived by a son, Robert L. Hawse Sr., of Lauderdale By the Sea, Florida; by a grandson, Robert H. Hawse, of Hartford, Connecticut; by granddaughters: Kelly Koziol and her husband, Leon, of Utica, New York, and Heather, Stacy, and Desiree Deegan, all of Troy, New York; by three great-grandchildren; by a sister, Wilma Tyler, of Jericho; and by several nieces and nephews. , 81, of Colchester, Connecticut, beloved wife of Royal, died Thursday night, February 26, 2004, at the Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, Connecticut, surrounded by her loving family. Born January 4, 1923, Mrs. Goodwin was the daughter of the late William and Etta (Hodgdon) Houghton. On December 17, 1945, she married Royal Goodwin in Greensboro. The couple lived in Hardwick and Barton. She was a nurse's aide in Colchester for many years. She loved gardening, crocheting, and decorating her home for all the holidays. She also loved tag sales. In addition to her loving husband, survivors include four daughters: Jean Scroggins of Killingworth, Connecticut, Eleanor Bedell of Colchester, Linda Goodwin of Plainfield, Connecticut, and Marilyn Moroch of Colchester; three sons: Steven, Mark, and Brian, all of Colchester; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews in Vermont; and numerous extended family members and friends. , 91, of North Troy died in Barton on Wednesday, April 28, 2004. Mr. Cole was born in Island Pond on July 6, 1912, the son of Arthur and Gladys (Farmer) Cole. He dedicated his life to his work as a mechanic at the Frontier Filling Station in North Troy. He was a former member of the Masonic Order Troy Union Lodge No. 16 of Free and Accepted Masons. He and his wife enjoyed many summers at their camp on Salem Lake. He also enjoyed reading Western books and recently he enjoyed watching wrestling. He is survived by his wife, Florence (Robinson) Cole of Barton. They celebrated their sixty-ninth wedding anniversary on April 26. He is also survived by his sons Reginald Cole and his wife, Rachel, of Zephyrhills, Florida, and Richard Cole and his wife, Nancy, of North Troy; by his grandchildren: Rhonda, Sheila, Steve, Tim, Tina, and Gana; by 12 great-grandchildren; and by one great-great-grandchild. , 82, died peacefully at her daughter's home in Burlington on Wednesday, May 5, 2004. Mrs. Tucker was born on April 29, 1922, the daughter of the late Bliss W. and Julia (Pike) Farrar. She moved to South Burlington in 1942. In July 1952, she marred Donald C. Tucker, who predeceased her in 1975. She worked at the Burlington Free Press for 33 years as one of its very first linotype operators and retired from George Little Press in 1985. After retirement, she moved back to the home she grew up in on Craftsbury Common and joined in Ladies Union activities, became a deacon of the United Church of Craftsbury, and was a trustee of Craftsbury Public Library, where she volunteered. She enjoyed doing puzzles, reading, cross-country skiing, golfing, painting, traveling, writing poetry, watching the Boston Celtics, and having her family around her. She leaves behind five daughters: Patricia George and her husband, Dr. A. B. (Taso), of West Hartford, Connecticut, Jacki Walton and her husband, Jim, of South Albany, Dixie O'Connor and her husband, Ray, of Burlington, Kerry Cameron and her husband, Steve Raymond, of Grand Isle, and Laurie Tatum of Burlington. She also leaves behind her sister Bettie Gray and her husband, Dick; her sister Isabelle Davis of Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton; sisters-in-law Rachel Farrar and Reina Farrar; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her brothers Bill Farrar in 1996 and Jack Farrar in 2004; by her brother-in-law Dr. Everett Davis in 2003; and by her granddaughter Dugan Foley in 1995. Mr. Reil was born in Hardwick July 6, 1954, the son of Raymond and Viola (Young) Reil. He attended school in Craftsbury and worked most of his life as a brick mason with his father. He later was a home care provider and worked in landscaping. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved his family and friends and being with them. He is survived by his mother, Viola Reil, of Craftsbury; by two sons, Jared and Woody Reil and their mother, Amber Reil, all of West Glover; by three brothers: Albert "Pete" Reil and his wife, Monique, of Craftsbury, Robert Reil and his wife, Tina, of Craftsbury, and Patrick Reil of Orleans; by a sister, Eleanor "Suzie" Courchaine of Craftsbury; and by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. , 99, of Barton died in Newport on Friday, May 7, 2004. Mrs. Moffett was born in Beebe, Quebec, on October 9, 1904, the daughter of Foster and Winnie (Eaton) Parker. She was a reporter first with the Stanstead Journal, then the Orleans County Monitor and Newport Daily Express, and reported the local news in Barton until about a month ago. She was a member of the Barton United Church, the Order of the Eastern Star Barton Orient Chapter No. 13, the Tuan Ti Christmas Club of Barton, and the Barton Literary Club. She was first married to Wallace Gilpin, who predeceased her in 1957. Mr. Gilpin, who purchased the Monitor in 1904, edited the Barton weekly for 50 years. She then married Harry Moffett, who predeceased her in 1976. She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Jana Parker-Lajoie of Brownington, Lisa Parker of Brownington, Nylene Howell of Spring Hill, Florida, Don Lockwood of Concord, New Hampshire, David Lockwood of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Rhonda; and by several great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers: Garth, Alton, and Richard; and by her sister Doris Lockwood. , 43, of Barton died in Barton on Thursday, May 6, 2004. Mr. Fournier was born in Newport on October 31, 1960, the son of Adrien and Orma (Nourrie) Fournier. He served in the U.S. Navy. He worked as a nurse at Union House Nursing Home in Glover. He was an emergency medical technician for over 20 years with the Barton and Newport ambulance services and was instrumental in forming the Northeast Kingdom Mountain Rescue Team. He was a first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation instructor and an Orleans County assistant medical examiner. He was an avid scuba diver, both in summer and winter, from diving under the ice in Lake Willoughby to diving in the Caribbean. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed ice climbing and camping. He is survived by his mother, Orma Fournier, of Barton; by his daughter Michelle Fournier of Lyndonville; by his longtime life partner, Laurie Miller, of Barton; by his brothers Amie Fournier of Red Rock, Texas, and Donald Fournier and his wife, Helen, of Bowie, Maryland; by his sister Rose Fournier of Newport; and by nieces and nephews. Mrs. Corkins was born on September 25, 1949, in Port Chester, New York, a daughter of the late Joseph and Agnes (Anderson) Bauer. In 1972, she married Richard Corkins, who survives her. She was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church. She enjoyed flowers and plants, spending time with her grandchildren, and animals, even the ones the kids brought home unexpectedly. She was a great cook and enjoyed trying new recipes, always ready to lend a helping hand to others.
