, 86, of Forest Lake Road, Whitefield, N.H., died at his home Tuesday morning, May 18, 2004. Mr. Pelletier was born in Causapscal, PQ, Canada, Aug. 25, 1917, the son of Pierre Joseph and Marianne (Rioux) Pelletier. Andre retired at age 62 from the Groveton Paper Mill after 26 years of employment. He enjoyed his retirement years with his wife Irene fishing in Florida in the winter and New Hampshire in the summer. His last two summers were spent with his family in their new home on Burns Lake in Whitefield, where his wife Irene continues to reside. He is survived by his wife, Irene (Choquette) Pelletier, of Whitefield and Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; two sons, Henri Daniel Pelletier, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Norman Pelletier and his wife Elisabeth, of Bethlehem, N.H.; a daughter, Doris Derr and her husband James, of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands and Whitefield, N.H.; six grandchildren, Stephen Michael Pelletier and his wife Nancy, of Gilman, Vt., Yvette Pelletier Gonzalez, Ernest Pelletier, and Andrew Pelletier, all of El Paso, Texas, and Casey Pelletier and Nicole Pelletier, both of New Jersey; three great-grandchildren, Crystal Pelletier and Daniel Pelletier, both of Pennsylvania, and Stephen Michael Pelletier Jr., of Gilman; a great-great-grandson, Keaton Allen Morris; a brother, Joseph Hector Pelletier, of Orlando, Fla.; four sisters, Marie-Louise Begin, of St. Johnsbury, Vt., Evangeline Pelletier, of Compton, N.H., Valerie Kane, of Montreal, Canada, and Teresa Bansereau, of Holyoke, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews. There are no visiting hours. A memorial Mass will be held Saturday morning, May 22, at 9 a.m., at All Saints Church, Lancaster. The Rev. Raymond Ball, pastor, will officiate. , 56, of Main Street, Newbury, died Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at his home from cancer. He was born Jan. 28, 1948 in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of Louis and Louise (Uhlig) Cattani. He attended Catholic elementary and high schools. After graduating from Wagner College in Staten Island, N.Y., in 1969, he served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Federation of Malaysia and after that service, traveled extensively in Southeast Asia and the South Pacific, including trekking into the interior of Papua, New Guinea. In 1972, he hitchhiked across Australia, from Sydney to Perth. He graduated from Vermont Law School in Royalton, Vt., in 1977, and had the honor and distinction of serving as the first editor in chief of the Vermont Law Review. From 1977 to 1980, Lou was a deputy states attorney for Caledonia County. He practiced law for many years in both Vermont and New Hampshire, specializing in trial work, before retiring in 2003. He enjoyed working in the theater, having had lead and supporting roles in a number of plays with the Old Church Theater in Bradford and the Tabor Valley Players. He served a term on the Oxbow School Board and for many years organized mock trial programs for senior classes at Oxbow, and in the early 1980s at Blue Mountain Union High School. In later years, he discovered an interest in fiction writing and published several short stories. He was an active parishioner at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Bradford, Vt., at one time serving on parish council and also serving as a lector during Mass. Lou was an excellent bowler, an accomplished chess player, an avid golfer and enjoyed hiking and kayaking. He is survived by his wife, Jonnie (Crawford) Cattani, of Newbury, Vt., whom he married July 5, 1975; two sons, Joseph S. Cattani and Charles J. Cattani; two granddaughters, Veronica Laura Cattani and Lilyanna Rose Cattani; his mother, Louise Cattani, of Santa Rosa, Calif.; one sister, Veronica Basker, also of California; his daughters-in-law; a nephew and niece; and many relatives and in-laws, all of whom provided support and strength to him during his illness. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Father Philip LaMothe officiating. Visiting hours will be held Monday evening, from 6-8 p.m., with the rosary being recited at 8 p.m. at the Hale Funeral Home, Upper Plain, Bradford, Vt. Burial will be private. , 56, of Route 3 south, Twin Mountain, N.H., passed away Monday, May 17, 2004, at Littleton Regional Hospital following a sudden illness. She was born in Barre, Vt., daughter of Julius and Dora (Overstreet) Edson. She spent most of her lifetime in the Barre area, prior to relocating to the Littleton, Bethlehem and Twin Mountain area about 10 years ago. She was an active homemaker, a person that was continually caring for others, and was extremely active in her church. She is survived by her husband, Antonio Grenier, of Bethlehem, N.H., two sons, Roger and Hattie Joyal, of Valdosta, Ga., and Matthew and Ruth Joyal, of Deltona, Fla.; five grandchildren, Brian, Bradley, Brett, Michael and Mariah; her father, Julius Edson, of Barre, Vt.; a sister, Linda Blow, of Barre, Vt.; two brothers, James Edson, of Websterville, Vt., and Charles Edson, of West Burke, Vt. , 57, died Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at her home in Walden following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born April 13, 1947 in Rutland, the daughter of the late Francis and Helen (Sapinski) Smyrski. She attended Christ the King Catholic School in Rutland, graduated from Rutland High School in the Class of 1965 and continued her education at Trinity College in Burlington, graduating in the Class of 1969. On Dec. 6, 1975, she married Joseph Thomas James Malgeri in Boston. In 1978, they moved to Walden where they have since made their home. Fran was employed for several years for the Travelers Insurance Co. in Boston. While at home caring for her young children, she started the "Daisy Meadow Design" sewing business. She later worked for four years in time share administration for the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, and for 15 years she was in administration at Goddard College in Plainfield. She was very loving, caring and involved in Walden activities. She enjoyed the time that she spent with her children and family. Other enjoyments include gardening and sewing. Survivors include her husband, Joe, of Walden; two daughters, Sara L. Malgeri, of Montpelier, and Rebecca Malgeri, of Walden; a sister, Bernice Santoro, of Proctor; two brothers, Joseph Smyrski, of Burlington, and Thomas Smyrski, of Rutland; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. To honor her request, all services will be private and at the convenience of the family. , longtime resident of St. Johnsbury, Vt., died Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at the St. Johnsbury Health & Rehab Center at the age of 87. She was born in Newport, Vt., July 10, 1916, the daughter of Timothy and Emma (Labounty) Cushing. A graduate of Newport High School in 1934, Madeline worked as a bookkeeper for the TEGU Theater Circuit and later at the Merchants Bank until her retirement in 1979. Mrs. Ash belonged to the Universalist Church serving as treasurer for many years. She was a member of the American Legion Post 58 Auxiliary and one of the original members of the Miles Pond Campers Association. On Sept. 9, 1944, she married Roy C. Ash, who predeceased her March 29, 1986. Survivors include three nieces, Dorothy Bogucke, of Hampton, N.Y., Barbara Higgins, of Pittsfield, Mass., and Sally Downs, of Jasper, Tenn.; and many friends. Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 22, at 10 a.m., at the Concord Cemetery, Concord, Vt., with Mr. John Sleeper officiating. There will be no calling hours. , 93, died May 20, 2004, at St. Johnsbury Health & Rehab Center. He was born in Nova Scotia, March 2, 1911, and came to the United States as a teenager, eventually becoming a naturalized citizen and a resident of Waltham, Mass. In 1954 he moved to Weston, Mass., where he stayed until 2000 when he relocated to 141 Mt. Pleasant St., St. Johnsbury. He was predeceased by a brother, Vernon; and sister, Ardis; and his wife of 58 years, Florence (Devitt), who died in 1992. He is survived by a daughter, Joan Marie and son-in-law George H. Wollrath, of St. Johnsbury; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, John David Wollrath and his wife Ann and children Eric, Matthew and Nick, of Groton, Mass., Christine Anne Walker and her husband Rick and children Charlie and Jessica, Robert Loran Wollrath and his wife Jasmin and children Ryan and Julie, Catherine Lydia Valdez and children Tony, Tyler and Becka, all of St. Johnsbury. In earlier years he was an avid fisherman and tied his own flies, enjoyed deer hunting, although not always successful. In recent years he delighted in reading and visited the Athenaeum frequently. He particularly enjoyed discussing politics and expressing his strongly held views often. He did not particularly enjoy our severe Vermont winters, but held great admiration for the expertise of the men who kept our streets free of snow. He outlived all his friends, but his family will remember him with great fondness. He was a true gentleman. After cremation he will be buried in the family plot at the Linwood Cemetery in Weston, Mass. Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family.

, 90, of Lake Willoughby, Westmore, Vt., died peacefully at North Country Hospital, Newport, Vt., May 19, 2004. Ella was born Feb. 27, 1914, in Brownington, Vt., the daughter of Helen and Donat Jarvis. Ella is remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a devoted companion and partner to her husband, Malcolm Pickel, in business and life itself. Although she enjoyed traveling to exotic places with Malcolm, she seemed to be most comfortable at home hosting a cocktail party or cookout for friends and family. Her kitchen magnet that states "home is where the heart is" rang true in her lifetime filled with joy and laughter. Malcolm and Ella's Willoughby Lake home was always open to their entire family, visiting "summer folks," dear friends and their children alike. In her later years, Ella continued to enjoy working in her garden, baking pies, reading mystery books, playing scrabble, and watching and feeding the birds and "chippie." She lived "one day at a time" and loved her family unconditionally. Ella was predeceased by her husband, Malcolm Pickel; her siblings, Clifford Jarvis and Anita Quintin; and her daughter, Joan Kendall. We like to think that she is now reunited with them again. Ella is survived by her daughter, Randi; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Borzoie, Malcolm Kendall and Aviva Stein; one great-grandchild, Jake Stein; and her nieces and nephews, Merry, Sherry, Kent, Trent and Bonnie and their children. At Ella's request, there will be no public services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to either The Barton Public Library, P.O. , 96, of 205 Peacham Road, Danville, Vt., died Thursday, May 20, 2004, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury with his daughter Terri and Sharon Paradis by his side. He was born in London City, Ontario, Canada on April 3, 1908 to Claud Leonard and Bessie Lodisa (Ockart) Graves. After moving to Stamford, Conn. at the age of 14, Floyd attended Stamford High School, graduating in 1926. On April 25, 1936, he married Muriel Alice Schmidt of Stamford, Conn. He was employed at the First Stamford National Bank as a teller, then, worked for the Robert J. King Co. as a physical scientist which became his life's work. In 1938 he began a career with American Cyanamid. While at Cyanamid in the Physics Laboratory, he developed Graves' Brittle Test Apparatus, which was used by the military to test the strength of rubber and other polymers under different conditions. He was a member of A.S.T.M. during his employment with Cyanamid. In 1971, Floyd and Muriel retired to Lower Waterford. They participated for many years in church and community activities before sharing a home with their daughter, Terri in 1993. Floyd lost his beloved Muriel on Feb. 5, 2004. He has now rejoined her to be together forever. Floyd is survived by his daughter Terri Graves of Danville, two "adopted" daughters, Sharon Paradis and Robin Bonnell; a daughter Heidi and Floyd Beecher of Laconia, N.H.; three grandsons and one great-granddaughter, Timothy Tibbals of Orange, Conn.; Mike, Mara and Kendra Tibbals of Belnap, N.H.; Todd and Lynn Tibbals of Meredith, N.H.; special cousins Bet and Alan Liberty of Bethel, Conn.; May Uthenwoldt of New Hampshire and family. Also, Cheryl Rutz of Connecticut, Fred and Marsha Rutz and family of Massachusetts and Ruth Loveless of Maine. A brief graveside service will be held with the Rev. Lynn Burgess officiating at the Danville Green Cemetery at 12 p.m. Monday, May 31. A celebration of Floyd's and Muriel's lives will follow at their residence. passed away early Friday, May 21, 2004, at the St. Johnsbury Health & Rehab Center at the age of 87. Born in Randolph, Vt. on Feb. 18, 1917, she was the daughter of Guy Adelbert and Lydia (Burgess) Osha. Audrey was a 1935 graduate of Randolph High School. In 1938 she graduated from the School of Handicraft and Occupational Therapy in Boston. She attended the U.S. Army Administration School in Richmond, Ky. in 1943. Audrey was the director of occupational therapy at the Vermont State Hospital prior to enlistment in WAAC and WAC during WW II. She was honorably discharged as a corporal. In 1946 she graduated from Hickox Secretarial School in Boston. On Feb. 7, 1948 she married David Francis Harvey in Waterbury. Raising her family was paramount in Audrey's life. She returned to work for the state of Vermont when her family was grown and retired in 1987 as a data clerk. She enjoyed sewing and knitting for her children and grandchildren. As a 4-H club leader, she taught 4-H members sewing and cooking and took great pride in her accomplishments. Audrey was a member of the Court St. Theresa No. 55 of the Catholic Daughters of Americas; she served as grant regent and held several other offices. She also held life membership in the St. Andrew's Catholic Church Altar Society of Waterbury, having served as president and secretary. She was a founding member and officer of the former Waterbury Jr. Women's Club and a member of Waterbury Grange No. 237. Audrey moved to St. Johnsbury in 1993 and was a communicant of St. John's the Evangelist Church. Audrey is survived by her elder sister Olga Waterman (120 Hill St. Apt. #7, Barre, VT 05641); four daughters: Lydia M. Harvey (96 Flanders Dr., St. Johnsbury, VT 05819), Geralyn Harvey Woodnorth and husband Douglas (90 Manning St., Needham, MA 02494), Judith Harvey (2401 Route 132, Sharon, VT 05065), Mary Harvey Bandish (142A Aiken Rd., Putney, VT 05346). Audrey was a proud grandmother of six grandchildren: Emily Harvey Lacroix of St. Johnsbury, Matthew and Samuel Williams of Sharon, Bryce Bandish of Putney, Mark and Joseph Woodnorth of Needham, Mass.; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband in 1998; her son David Timothy Harvey in November 1998; her parents; three brothers: Guy Jr., Albert and Adelbert; two sisters: Vivian Mitchell and Gwendolyn Webster. A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Johnsbury Tuesday, May 25 at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church located on Main Street. Committal services are scheduled for Tuesday, May 25 at 1:30 p.m. at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Duxbury. A light luncheon will follow the committal service at St. Leo's Parish Hall on South Main Street in Waterbury. , 71, formerly of Island Pond, passed away in Brockton, Mass. on Thursday, May 20, 2004. She was born in Boston, Mass., on March 18, 1933, the daughter of Manoog and Mary (Kindoyan) Kahaiyan. In 1958 Helen married Ronald Langford, who predeceased her on May 21, 1990. Following their marriage they built a seasonal home in Island Pond, and continued to work in the Boston area. In 1967 Ron and Helen opened the Buck and Doe Restaurant in Island Pond, which they operated for 23 years. Helen is survived by her brother, Martin Kahaiyan of East Bridgewater, Mass. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 26 at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, 1199 Railroad St., Island Pond at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Brendan Whittaker officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday. Interment will follow at the Lakeside cemetery in Island Pond.
