, 53, died Tuesday, May 4, 2004, of cancer at Springfield Hospital. Bob was born April 19, 1951 in Patterson, N.J. He was the son of George and Eleanor Faust. He graduated from Greenwich High School in Greenwich, Conn., and attended New York University and the College for Arts and Crafts in California. Shortly thereafter, he went to work building guitars with Michael Gurian in New York City. When Gurian moved his shop to New Hampshire in 1972, Bob moved with it. A year later, with the help of his father, Bob was able to set up his own guitar-making business in his then-new and now late home on Old Piper Road in Baltimore, Vt. Not having the most conservative head for business, Robert expanded his horizons to include picture framing, working with other guitar makers, and a position that held a special place in his heart, that of a fish delivery truck driver. In 1982, Bob met his future wife Kay Hurwitz. She was from London and was working at the Springfield Town Library in a job exchange program. When Kay returned to England, Bob soon followed. In 1984, they were married in London and their son David was born a year later. In 1988, the three of them returned to Baltimore and have lived there ever since. Bob continued to do picture framing and had his own shop in Ludlow for several years. Although he was sometimes a touch excitable, Robert was a wonderful person. He was kind and generous, and always honest and forthright, sometimes brutally so. He was witty, intelligent and passionate about anything meaningful, be it politics, music or his family. He had his flaws, but in the end he was a loving father, husband and person. He loved nothing more than to roll up a cigarette, drink a beer, and listen to music with his family and friends. He was greatly loved and will be sorely missed. Bob was predeceased by his father George in 1984. He is survived by his wife Kay and son David of Baltimore, Vt.; his mother, Eleanor of Orient, N.Y.; a brother, George and his wife Kathy of New York City, and their children, Amanda and Nathaniel; a sister, Virginia of Middlebury; and a sister, Elizabeth Wheeler and her husband Mark of Lyndonville, and their children, Derek and Jordan, who did so much for him during his illness. There will be a memorial service Saturday, May 8, at St. James Episcopal Church in Woodstock, Vt., at 5 p.m., performed by the Rev. Christina Brannock-Wanter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Springfield Hospital or the organization of your choice.
