, of St. Johnsbury, passed away peacefully Monday evening, Sept. 13, 2004, at the age of 81. She was born in East Poultney, Vt., Sept. 2, 1923, the daughter of Raymond and Irene (Keith) Merriman. Jean graduated from Portsmouth High School. In her younger years she worked at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital and the New Hampshire Department of Employment. After marriage, she traveled extensively as a military wife. A master of Japanese flower design, Jean was a national flower show judge, studied many of the arts, and managed a craft store in Atlanta in the late 1960s. After retirement, Jean and George returned to Vermont, raised sheep, and operated their craft business in Victory. In her 70s she entered the Community College of Vermont in order to pursue one of her life's goals, a college education. She is survived by her husband, Col. George Williams, whom she married Sept. 21, 1947 (17 Church St. Apt. 21 05819); their children, Cary Williams and his partner Mandy of Jakarta, Indonesia; Rob Williams and his wife Diane of Athens, Ga., Cinda Young of Orleans, Vt., and Rebecca Williams of Glover, Vt.; give grandsons, Clay Williams and his wife Beth, Justin Williams and his wife Suzanne, Travis Williams, Gage Williams, and Shannon Young. She is also survived by two sisters, Jane Philbrick, and Barbara McCarty and her husband John; two brothers, Donald Merriman and his wife Connie, and Kurt Merriman and his wife Sandi; daughter-in-law, Mary Anne Foster, Tom and Emily; and her extended family and many friends. Services will be held this Saturday at 1 p.m. at the St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. Burial will be on Monday in Randolph at the Vermont Memorial Veteran's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home Friday evening from 6-8. , 78, of River Glen Complex, Littleton, N.H., passed away Sept. 17, 2004, at the Littleton Regional Hospital after a brief illness. George was born a son to Joseph E. and Mary A. (Boissonneault) Crapeau on Dec. 23, 1925, in Whitefield, N.H. He graduated in the Class of 1943 from Whitefield High School. George served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II as a communications specialist. Western Union Telegraph in Baltimore, Md., employed him for over 30 years. Playing the organ was a passion of his, the first of which he played, he built from a kit. He played the organ for various denominations in Baltimore and was a member of the choir and played the organ for St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Whitefield for many years. George also enjoyed gardening. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a past member of the American Legion, and was also a member of the National Rifle Association. Two sisters, Theresa Caggiula of Colebrook, N.H., and Claire Brady of Goffstown, N.H., survive George. Five brothers, Maurice, Paul, Lionel, Eugene and Daniel, as well as two sisters, Louise and Madeline, predeceased George. The family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday, Sept. 21, from 7-8 p.m., at the Pillsbury Funeral Home, 101 Union St., Littleton. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church on Wednesday, Sept. 22, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. John Fleming as celebrant. She was born in St. Johnsbury, Aug. 25, 1912, the daughter of Joseph and Alphonsine (Toussaint) Fortin. Mrs. Marko was a member of St. John's Church and a former member of the DAV Auxiliary. Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Pearl Marko of Concord; grandchildren, Tracy Marko of St. Johnsbury, and Penny and her husband Shawn Whitcomb of Barnet; two great-granddaughters, Alicia and Krystal. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward, Feb. 3, 1984; two sons, Edward Jr. in 1940, and Robert "Bob" Marko on May 29, 2003; a brother, Omer "Joe" Fortin; two sisters, Lorraine Begin and Jeannette Doyon; and a grandson, Larry Marko, in 1981. Lloyd was born Sept. 2, 1940, in Boston, Mass., the son of Melvin Mitchell and Josephine Louise Vivian (Wood) Middleton. Lloyd was a member of the Vermont National Guard, and worked at Vermont Tap and Die for 37 years where he worked as a shipping clerk. He was predeceased by his mother, Josephine and his stepfather, Edward F. Wood; and stepbrother, Paul Jasper Wood. , 95, widow of Arthur Frank Cheney and longtime East Barnet resident, passed away Thursday morning, Sept. 23, 2004. She had resided at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehab Center since May 2002. She was born in Barnet March 28, 1909, to Samuel and Carrie (Gilfillan) Corriveau. She married Arthur Frank Cheney Sept. 20, 1927. He passed away Feb. 10, 1989. The Cheneys operated their farm on Little France Road, as well as the Old Charlie Harvey farm for five years, and The Circle "C" Ranch Dance Hall for 11 years. Mrs. Cheney worked as a candy mold operator at Maple Grove for 23 years. She was a longtime active member of the East Barnet Congregational Church, the Lakeview Grange in Barnet and the order of Rebekkah's in Barnet. She is survived by three children, Ruth E. Descoteaux and her husband Leo of Barnet, Louis A. "Sonny" Cheney and his wife Irene of Groton, and Priscilla Hendrick and her companion Clyde Rivers of Sutton; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son-in-law, Orin G. Hendrick; a grandson, Anthony Wade; and a great-granddaughter, Tonya Southworth. She was also predeceased by a sister, Doris, as a young child; three brothers, Lyman Corriveau, Walter Corriveau, and an infant brother, Leon. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Sept. 26, at 2 p.m., at the East Barnet Congregational Church with Mr. Gary Brooks officiating. Burial will follow at the Barnet Center Cemetery. , 88, died in Gainesville, Fla., Sept. 18, 2004, from complications following a hip fracture on Aug. 22. Paul was born in West Barnet, Vt., Jan. 17, 1916, the third child of Charles A. Choate and Pearl Field. After grammar school in West Barnet, he attended Peacham Academy for two years and Vermont Academy in Sextons River, where he graduated in 1933. He received his B.S. at the University of Vermont in 1937 and his M.D. in 1940 at UVM's Medical College. Paul joined the ATO fraternity and later became a member of the Amidonian Society. While at UVM, he met Elvira A. Estivill, a student nurse at the Mary Fletcher Hospital, whom he married on May 15, 1942. Paul joined the U.S. Army on July 1, 1941, and served as a medical officer in the First Infantry Division. Attached to the 924 Field Artillery Battalion, Paul participated in campaigns in Tunisia, Morocco, Sicily, Normandy (Omaha Beach), the Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge), the Rhineland and Czechoslovakia, returning to the United States on Sept. 27, 1945. Paul received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Silver Star for his actions in combat. He was discharged as a major in 1946. On Jan. 1, 1946, Paul began general practice in Monroe, N.H., where he lived and worked until 1970. He was on the staff at Brightlook Hospital in St. Johnsbury, Vt., and Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, N.H. Paul made house calls throughout the Northeast Kingdom, visiting almost every home in about a dozen towns and villages. For many years he was also Grafton County Medical Examiner. Paul's three children were born in St. Johnsbury and raised in Monroe. He became a member of the Monroe Methodist Church. In 1970, Paul moved to Newmarket, N.H., where he was physician at the UNH Health Center (Hood House) until retirement in 1988. He was also attending physician at both the Stratford County Nursing Home and Prison. After living in Lee, N.H., Paul and Elvira moved to Havenwood Retirement Community in Concord, N.H., in 2000. They then moved to Gainesville in January 2004. Paul was an ardent hunter and fisherman, spending hours in the woods of Vermont and at Harvey's Lake. He played the piano well and while in Monroe sang in the "Four M's" (the Minister, Medic, Miller, and Mountaineer). He enjoyed traveling in Europe and the U.S. Paul was predeceased by both parents; his sister Alice; brother Charles; and two grandchildren, Eric and Alexander Choate. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elvira; three children, Paul M. Choate of Gainesville, Fla., Mamie Choate Watson of Charlotte, Vt., and Frederick S. Choate of Berkeley, Calif.; and four grandchildren, Teresa Choate of Anaheim, Calif., Tucker and Schuyler Watson of Charlotte, Vt., and Christina Choate of Berkeley, Calif. A memorial service will be held in West Barnet, Vt., next summer and Paul will be buried in Monroe, N.H.

, Chief Master Sergeant (Ret.) USAF, of Plano, Texas, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at his home surrounded by his wife and children at the age of 74. He was born June 9, 1930, in Newark, Vt., the second of 11 children born to Cecil Ingalls and Doris (Hunt) Smith. He served 32 years in the U.S. Air Force. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. His time serving his country sent him to Japan, Alaska, the Philippines and Okinawa. After retiring from the USAF, he worked for Beta Products and retired from Intermec in Texas. He was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church and served on church committees. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 321, Elks Lodge 2485, and was former quarter master of the VFW. He is survived by his wife, Judith K. Smith; and children, Bradley D. and his wife Susan of Dover, Ohio, Denise E. Berry and her husband Edwin Jr. of Wheelock, Vt., Steven A. of Albany, N.Y., Dawn R. Dwyer and her husband Terry of Lyndonville, Vt., Eileen McAffee and her husband W. Dudley of Corinth, Texas, and Rebecca L. of Plano, Texas. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Carl (Buck) Price of Cadiz, Ohio, Alan Humphrey and friend Vivian Turner of Inglewood, Colo., and Clayton Humphrey and Lynne of Stockbridge, Wis. He was blessed with 15 grandchildren, Matthew, Mark, Michael, Mandi, Melissa, Magen, Bradley I., Miranda, Ashley, Danielle, Alena, Jordan, Paxton, Ben and Kayla; and two great-grandsons, Devon and Jacob. His brothers surviving him are David, Duane and his wife Joan, Robert and his wife Janet, Gaylon and his wife Alva, and Preston (Jack) and his wife Audrey, all of Wheelock, Vt. His sisters are Lorraine Poulin and her husband Russell of Wheelock, Vt., Gayle Gauthier of St. Johnsbury, Jennie Edmunds and her husband Ashley of Lyndon Center, Vt., and Donna Camber and her husband Charles of Wheelock; and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving him are his aunts, Beryl Dollar of Franklin Park, Ill., Vergenia Hunt of East Hardwick, Vt., and Mildred Hunt of Terryville, Conn. His parents; his oldest brother, Delford; his sister-in-law, Lorraine Smith; and his stepdaughter-in-law, Karen Price, predeceased him. , 87, of Littleton, N.H., passed away Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at the Littleton Regional Hospital after a brief illness. A native of Littleton, Cecelia was born a daughter to William J. and Florence R. (Lord) Brousseau on Sept. 7, 1917. She attended area schools and graduated from Littleton High School in 1935. The Littleton Water and Light Company employed Cecelia for over 35 years. She was a lifetime member of the Catholic Daughters of America and loved people. She enjoyed doing various activities with her friends, as well as doing crafts, and watching baseball and basketball. Cecelia volunteered for many years at the American Red Cross Blood Drives in Littleton. Cecelia is survived by one niece, Deirdre Brousseau of Littleton, N.H.; one nephew, Timothy C. Brousseau of Lebanon, N.H.; two grandnieces, Carlen Berger of Milford, Mass., and Jonna Berger of Littleton, N.H.; two grandnephews, Timothy M. Brousseau of Denver, Colo., and Matthew Brousseau of Littleton, N.H.; and one sister-in-law, Helen "Sis" Brousseau of Littleton, N.H. One brother and one sister predeceased her. , 78, widow of Philip Badger Jr., passed away quietly Sept. 27, 2004, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury, Vt. She was born in St. Johnsbury, Sept. 24, 1926, to Perley and Beatrice (Donaghy) Bonett. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Philip Badger Jr., Feb. 20, 1990. Harriett attended St. Johnsbury Academy and worked at Fairbanks Morse. She later resided in Windham Center, Conn., where she worked for Brand Rex. She and her husband Philip retired to North Carolina, spending their summers in Danville, Vt. She was an avid golfer and member of St. Johnsbury Country Club. She is survived by a brother, Earl Bonett and his wife Ruth of St. Johnsbury; sister, Marion Streeter of Albany, N.Y.; sister, Marjorie Smith and her husband Russell of Inverness, Fla., and Danville; and sister, Gertrude Daire of Whiting, N.Y.; and nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was also predeceased by a brother, Edward Bonett and his wife Mary of St. Johnsbury; and a sister, Arlene May and her husband Royce of Wolcott. , of Lyndonville passed away Sept. 19, 2004, at his family's home in Madison, N.J. He was 29 years old. Many individuals in the Burke and Lyndonville areas especially treasured Tom's friendship during the last few years of his life. A local memorial service for Tom will take place at 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 1, at the south end of Lake Willoughby in Westmore, Vt. Tom is survived by his loving companion, Suzanne Graves; his parents, Janet Chiarolanzio Losavio and Thomas J. Losavio Jr.; his sister Sherri Losavio; his paternal grandmother, Lucy Losavio; his maternal grandparents, Tina and Al Chiarolanzio; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Tom grew up in Madison, N.J., and had strong ties to the Lyndonville area in his adult life. He attended Lyndon State College and lived in the Northeast Kingdom for most of the past five years. Drawing on his experience as a contractor and electrician, Tom committed his generous heart and soul to managing the complete renovation of the "Howard E. Reynolds" Building at 71 Depot St. in Lyndonville in 2004, where a permanent plaque will be placed in his memory. Tom loved the Northeast Kingdom and was strongly connected to Lake Willoughby, where he spent much time swimming and simply enjoying its natural beauty. He loved to fish local ponds and lakes, camp with friends in the wilderness, and snowboard at Burke Mountain. His friends will always remember his delicious and healthy cooking and his appetite to travel, learn and experience life to the fullest. In May of this year, Tom and Sue traveled to Kona, Hawaii, where Tom witnessed his cousin Lisa Losavio's marriage to Brian Van Horn. Tom seemed to possess an "old soul" and presence beyond his years. He loved his family and friends deeply, was always there when they needed him, listened to people, and understood. He was a great companion, passionate, sensitive, insightful and fun. He took his time with things and made each moment count, soaking it all in. He had creative ideas, dreams, plans and goals. He cared about the environment and humanity, and was a student of theology. Many lives were touched by his generous spirit in the short time he was here on earth. Memorial services, attended by Tom's large extended family and friends from the many circles that he touched throughout his life, were held in Madison, N.J., Sept. 23 and 24. , of St. Johnsbury, Vt., passed away Sept. 27, 2004, at the age of 61. Kenny was a talented all-around athlete. As a golfer he was former Vermont Amateur champion, having won the championship at his then-home course of Orleans. He was also a member of the St. Johnsbury Country Club and was its champion in 1978 and 1979. He had worked as a guard at the St. Johnsbury Correctional Center. He was born in Newport, July 23, 1943, the son of Harold and Helen (Ingalls) Sanville. He is survived by a sister, Barbara Marceau of St. Johnsbury. There will be no services. , 77, Highland Street, Whitefield, N.H., died suddenly Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, at Littleton Regional Hospital. She was born in Lancaster, N.H., the daughter of Burton and Conseulla (Burt) McLain. She grew up in Lancaster and attended local schools, spending most of her lifetime in the Lancaster, Jefferson area. She had resided for the past 12 years in Whitefield. She enjoyed her crafts, gardening, going for long rides in the car and making her photo albums, but most of all, spending time with her grand- and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her three sons and their spouses, Philip and Marilyn Reynolds of Franklin, N.H., James and Flora Reynolds of Alexandria, N.H., and Timothy and Susan Reynolds of Milan, N.H.; three daughters and their spouses, Brenda and William Bishop of Gorham, N.H., Pamela and Reginald Willey of Whitefield, N.H., and Rebecca and Gary Evans of Boscawen, N.H.; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Ball and Lillian Flynn, both of Lancaster, N.H.; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Marcella; and a grandson, Timothy II.
