, 79, of Newport, died peacefully Feb. 13, 2004, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born Jan. 1, 1925 in Island Pond, the daughter of Ernest and Louisa (Sampson) Webster. On July 7, 1946, she married Harley Sam Bly of East Charleston who survives her. Mrs. Bly graduated from Brighton High School in 1942, where she was an outstanding athlete in both basketball and softball, and was a member of the Alumni Association. She graduated from Lyndon Normal School in 1944 with a teaching certificate and later graduated from Lyndon State College in 1976 with a bachelor of arts degree in education. Her teaching career spanned 30 years, most of which was spent at Derby Elementary School. She will be fondly remembered by her former students as a strict but fair and caring teacher. Muriel held membership in the Order of the Eastern Star, Lakeside Chapter 27, where she was a past matron and a delegate to the Grand Representatives Association of Vermont. She was also a member of the United Church of Newport, the North Country Mountaineer Snowmobile Club, the Charleston and Island Pond historical societies and the Retired Teachers Association. She is survived by her husband, Harley Sam Bly; and her four children, Robert Bly and his wife Roxana Bailey of Newport; Thomas Bly and his wife Peggy of Derby; Linda Bly Davis and her husband David of Lower Waterford, and James Bly of Hampton, Va. She is also survived by the following grandchildren, Hallie LaCroix and her husband John of Okinawa, Japan, Jared Stevens of Newport, Jessica (Bly) Rojas and her husband Noel of Southbridge, Mass., Max Bly of Derby, and Samantha Bly of Hampton, Va.; as well as great-grandchildren, Jalen and Kalli Rojas of Southbridge, Mass. Mrs. Bly is also survived by two brothers, Kenneth Webster and his wife Maida of Yarmouth, Maine, and Richard Webster and his wife Charlotte of Las Vegas, Nev.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. , 61, of Barton, died Feb. 12, 2004 in Newport. She was born March 27, 1942 in Newport, a daughter of Herve and Simon (Simard) Menard. On Nov. 24, 1961, she married Steven Brown, who survives her. Mrs. Brown was co-owner with her husband of the Candle Pin Restaurant in Barton since 1963. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, reading, baking, flower gardening, scriptures and sharing her faith. She loved people which was evidenced by the success of the Candle Pin Restaurant for 40 years. She is survived by her husband, Steven Brown of Barton; and the following children, Donna Brown and her fiance Anthony Perry of Barton, Diane Brown of Littleton, N.H., Lisa Brown of Farmington, Maine, Ted Brown of Barton, Carmen Brown and her friend Jeremy Knights of Barton; two grandchildren, Hanna and Parker Brown. She is also survived by the following brothers and sisters, Roger Menard of Barton, Roland Menard of Berlin, N.H., Francis Menard and his wife Sue of Barton, Raymond Menard and his wife Christine of Newport, Pierre Menard of Ferrisburg, Vt., Pauline Nault and her husband Ralph of Barton, Patty Saum and her husband Harry of Lake George, N.Y., Rita Benoit and her husband Robert of Barre, Denise Wilkins and her husband Paul of Tequesta, Fla, and Carole Cogio and her husband Michael of Richmond, Vt.; her stepmother, Simon Menard of Newport Center; and by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. , 88, passed away peacefully in the home in Bethlehem, N.H., that she shared with her daughter and family for 16 years, Monday, Feb. 9, 2004. Gladys was born in Manchester, N.H., a daughter to Michael and Alice (Mushlin) Spector, Aug. 28, 1915. She attended Central High School and Hesser Business College. Gladys married Louis H. Camann in 1941 and raised four children in Manchester until their move to Littleton in 1969. Gladys took great pride in supporting the family businesses with her bookkeeping skills for Roger's in Manchester; Camann's Shoe & Children's Clothing Store, Chucky's Country Store, and Nautilus Health & Fitness Center, all in Littleton, totaling 70 years of service. She was an American Red Cross Volunteer in World War II. Her hobbies included golf, bridge, reading and knitting. She leaves behind two daughters, Candace Clark of Bethlehem, N.H., and Andrea Duchesneau of Milton, N.H.; one son, Peter Camann of Bethlehem, N.H.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Her husband, Louis, a son, Jeff, and a grandson, Michael, predeceased her. Services will be held at a date to be determined in the spring. , 77, of Falmouth, Maine, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, in Portland, Maine, following a brief illness. Mrs. Collins was born Joan Mawer Thompson in Philadelphia, Pa., June 11, 1926, a daughter to Albert R. and Beatrice (Mawer) Thompson. She graduated from Prospect Park High School in Philadelphia and Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, in 1948. On Nov. 26, 1949, she married Howard Collins in Philadelphia. She was a long-time resident of Littleton, N.H., moving to Falmouth in 1999. Mrs. Collins was employed as a business manager of the North Country Home Health Agency and was an active member of the First Congregational Church. She enjoyed playing piano and singing in the choir. She was also an avid bridge player. Surviving family members include a son, John Collins of Charlestown, N.H.; two daughters, Anne Mayer of Portland, Ore., and Susan Lloyd-Rees of South Portland, Maine; and five grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Paul Collins, in 1980; and by her husband, Howard Collins, in 1999. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 21, at 1 p.m., at the Littleton First Congregational Church, with the Rev. Edward E. Lopeman officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in the Wheeler Hill Cemetery in Littleton.

, 62, Littleton, passed away at the Littleton Regional Hospital Feb. 16, 2004. Janet was born a daughter to Andrew and Helen (Hoyt) Allaire, Nov. 4, 1941, in North Woodstock, N.H. The Littleton Stamp and Coin Company employed her as a supervisor. Janet enjoyed reading, the Internet and going to beaches, especially Hampton Beach. Janet is survived by her mother, Helen Allaire of Littleton; two sons, Christopher Robert Lemieux of Littleton, and Jason Allen Lemieux of Chichester, N.H.; one daughter, Jamie Lee Tomasetti of Littleton; three grandchildren; one brother, Norman Allaire of Littleton; and two good friends, Dot and Maureen. One sister, Susan Miles, predeceased her. A memorial service will be held Thursday, Feb. 19, at the Pillsbury Funeral Home, 101 Union Street, Littleton, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Lyn O. , 79, of Meadows Road, Jefferson, N.H., died suddenly Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, at home. Mr. Davis was born in Whitefield May 2, 1924, the son of Charles L. and Effie Maude (Ewen) Davis. Harold was a lifetime resident of Jefferson, graduating from Jefferson High School in 1942. He worked all his life as a farmer with the exception of a few years of construction and state highway work. For many years he operated the Steel Top Farm in Jefferson partnering with his father and later his son Dean. On Oct. 18, 1947, he married his wife of 53 years, Isabelle Scott. Together from 1954 to 1990, they operated local school buses. Initially they owned their own buses and were later employed with Bruce Transportation. Isabelle predeceased him Nov. 27, 2000. Harold was active in community affairs. For many years he was the parade marshall for the Jefferson Fourth of July, past president of the Jefferson PTA, member of the Jefferson Festival Committee, and was the Jefferson Transportation Representative to the North Country Council for eight years. He was past president and vice president at the time of his death of the Coos County Farm Bureau. He was recognized as a 50-Year Outstanding Member in 2000. He also served as a Coos County Delegate for the New Hampshire State Farm Bureau. He was a former director and stockholder of the Lancaster Fair, and served on the executive council for 4-H. Memberships include St. John's Methodist Church, Jefferson, the Starr King Grange, the Mt. Jefferson I.O.O.F., and was an original member of the White Mountain Riding Club. Family members include his four children, Randall S. Davis of Groveton, Linda L. Cushman of Jefferson, Lewis H. Davis of Goodhue, Minn., and Dean E. Davis of Littleton; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Davis of Lancaster. A grandson, Benjamin Davis, also predeceased him. Visiting hours will be held Thursday afternoon and evening, Feb. 19, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A funeral service will be held Friday morning at 11 a.m. at the Christ United Methodist Church, Lancaster. The Rev. Dr. Thomas W. Bentum, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Forest Vale Cemetery, Jefferson. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in his memory to the Jefferson Historical Society, P.O. , "Max," 73, of Sutton, died at his home Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, with his wife and children at his side. He was born April 19, 1930 in Lowell, Mass., the son of the late Maxwell A.K. and Beulah H. (Linscott) Fadden Sr. After high school, Max entered the U.S. Marine Corps, serving during the Korean War and later in the reserves, completing eight years of service to the country which he so loved. On Sept. 23, 1956, he married Joan C. Wilkins. They lived and raised their family in Tewksbury, Mass., until 1978, when they moved to Sutton, Vt. Max worked as a lineman for New England Telephone for 36 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Pawtucketville Congregational Church in Lowell, Mass.; a lifetime member of the NRA; the VFW Post 10038 of Lyndonville; the Telephone Pioneers; and the IBEW. He is remembered as a great patriot who loved his country with an old-fashioned fervor, and his family with all of his heart. He was also an avid hunter and sportsman. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Joan Fadden of Sutton; their four children, Keith L. Fadden and his wife Charlene of Hudson, N.H., Carol H. Ayer and her husband Timothy of Montpelier, Robert S. Fadden and his wife Patti of West Charleston, and Christie F. Arguin and her husband John of Barre; 12 grandchildren, Ashley, Erin, Kristen, Brian and Kevin Fadden, Matthew Brendan, Ryan, Danielle, Keith and Jinfeng Ayer, and Emma Arguin; his brother, Linscott Fadden and his wife Kris of Dover, N.H.; two brothers-in-law, Raymond T. Wilkins and his wife Dorothea of Pelham, N.H., and Robert Reid of Florida; his sister-in-law, Jane Wilkins of Dracut, Mass.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by three grandchildren, Faith, Ethan and Aiden Arguin. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 21, at 11 a.m., at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Leno officiating. Spring burial with military honors will be held at the East Ridge Cemetery in Sutton. There will be no visiting hours. , of St. Johnsbury, died early Wednesday morning, Feb. 18, 2004, at home at the age of 80 years. She was born in St. Johnsbury June 2, 1923, the daughter of Albia and Eleanor Wightman. A graduate of St. Johnsbury Academy, Class of 1941, Dorothy went on to Brightlook Hospital where she received her RN degree. For over 55 years, she had been nursing either in a hospital or private home care. She was a past member of the Nurse's Association. Many will remember Dorothy as a cashier at White Market or earlier at Fontaine's Superette in St. Johnsbury. She loved flowers, birds (cardinals), animals, and her rides in the country with family and friends. On Feb. 8, 1945, she married Eugene Fontaine, who predeceased her Feb. 7, 1996. Survivors include two children, Paul and his wife Bonnie Fontaine of St. Johnsbury, and Dorothy Killmer of Amenia, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Ryan Killmer of Amenia, N.Y., Kimberly and her husband Matthew Keafer of St. Johnsbury, and Kelly Fontaine of St. Johnsbury. She was also predeceased by her stepfather, Brooks Warner. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church in St. Johnsbury, Saturday, Feb. 21, at 11 a.m. Spring burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. She graduated from A.I.C. in 1971. She graduated with high honors from Holyoke Community College in 1977 with an Associate in Arts degree. In May 1979 she achieved a Master of Science degree from Framingham State College. She later worked as a hospital clinical dietitian. , 31, of 433 French Road, Dalton, N.H., passed away Feb. 17, 2004, while trying to rescue his family from a fire at their home. Greg's two sons Zachary and Jesse also passed away. Greg was born in Lawrence, Mass., son of Gregory and Susan (Lacroix) Shepard. He attended the Whitefield Elementary School and the White Mountains Regional High School. At the time of his death, he was employed at the Misty Meadows Farm in Bethlehem. Greg had a fondness for snowmobiling in the winter and being a "backyard mechanic" in the summertime. He will always be remembered as a loving husband and father. He is survived by his parents, his wife Lorena, daughter Maria, and sister Vicki, all of Dalton.

, 88, formerly of Poultney, Vt., died of heart failure in Salt Lake City, Utah, Feb. 11, 2004, surrounded by her loving family and her companion/pet, Sasha. She left this world to join her husband for Valentine's Day. She was born and lived most of her life in Vermont where she practiced nursing and was a helpmate to her late husband, Emory, in his medical practice in Poultney, Vt. She and her husband moved to Salt Lake in 1996 to be closer to their family. She volunteered with the American Red Cross for more than 50 years and was active in the Poultney Women's Club and various other civic organizations. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years. She leaves sons, Dr. Leonard and his wife Thalia Swinyer of Salt Lake, and Dr. Bruce and his wife Rosemary Swinyer of Bakersfield, Calif.; a daughter, Ms. Elaine Swinyer of San Francisco, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Irene Haupert of Salt Lake; and five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
