, 91, of Newport died peacefully February 14, 2003, in Newport. Mrs. McGivern was born May 28, 1913, in Holland, a daughter of Foster and Maude (Smith) Woodard. In June 1935 she married Harold McGivern, who predeceased her in 1974. She enjoyed her home and family. She enjoyed crocheting and reading. She is survived by the following children: Pauline Bosley and her husband, Kenneth, of North Springfield, Gertrude Abbott of Springfield, Robert McGivern and his wife, Christine, of Newark, Iris Tracy and her husband, Paul, of Somers, Connecticut, Harold McGivern Jr. and his wife, Diane, of Athol, Massachusetts, Virginia Locke and her husband, Eugene, of Gladys, Virginia, Ronald McGivern and his wife, Dale, of Bellows Falls, Reginald McGivern and his wife, Sandy, of Bellows Falls, and Gloria Jacobs and her husband, Melvin, of Newport. She is survived by 27 grandchildren; by 42 great-grandchildren; by a brother, Fred Woodard, of Colebrook, New Hampshire; by a sister, Ruby Cole, of Newport; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Raymond; and by the following brothers and sisters: Roy, Harold, Foster, John, Floyd, and Raymond Woodard and Myrtie Provoncher and Rena. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Spring interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Newport. , 72, of Derby died in Newport on Wednesday, February 12, 2003. Mr. Leonard moved to North Dorset in 1985 and then moved to the area in November 1997 from New York with his great-nephew Bill Matson, who lived with him. He is also survived by a cousin, Dave Schombs, and his wife, Catherine, and by several other cousins. He was born in Far Rockaway, New York, on June 3, 1930, the son of Joseph and Mary Ellen (Herbert) Leonard. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1953. He worked for the Long Island Lighting Company for over 40 years before retirement. He was a member of the Drift Dusters and enjoyed snowmobiling and fishing on area lakes. He also enjoyed going to the Brown Cow restaurant for breakfast and conversation. He derived a lot of pleasure from his two cats and his dog. A funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family with a spring interment in St. Jerome Cemetery in East Dorset.

, 26, of Jay died suddenly February 12, 2003, in Jay. Mr. Green was born October 19, 1976, beloved son of Robert and Joan (Campbell) Green. He was particularly fond of going to the family hunting camp in Ferdinand with family and friends. He also enjoyed his dog Tucker. He worked mostly with his father since graduating from school. He appreciated the outdoors and all it had to offer in the way of beauty and athletic challenges such as snowboarding, kayaking, snowshoeing, skiing, hunting, and hiking. He was an avid hockey player in high school, and he worked as a lifeguard at Disney World in Orlando. He easily made friends wherever he went and was one of the fortunate ones to have many lifelong and close friends. He is survived by his parents, Robert and Joan Green, of Newport; by his brother Derek Green of Asheboro, North Carolina, and his fiancée, Tracey Rumbelow, of Altamonte Springs, Florida. He spent many hours with his very loving girlfriend, Karen Cutting. He is also survived by his grandfather John Campbell of Newport; by grandmother Bernice Campbell and her friend, Richard Catani, of Newport; and by many aunts, uncles, and cousins on both sides of the Green and Campbell families. He was predeceased by his grandparents Bill and Shirley Green. Funeral services were held February 17 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Newport with the Reverend Larry Ridgely celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial. , 45, of Holland died unexpectedly in Lebanon, New Hampshire, on Wednesday, February 12, 2003. Mr. Gray was born in Newport on August 10, 1957, the son of Earline (Lyon) Gray and the late Clayton Gray. On August 14, 1978, he married Laura Smith, who survives him. He was employed as a medic for the United States Army for 16 years and National Guard for 10 years. While in the Army he toured in Korea, Grenada, Egypt, and Hawaii and was stationed in Fort Drum, Fort Campbell, and Fort Mead. Among his hobbies he enjoyed hunting, fishing, diving, and making furniture. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 21 of Newport. He is survived by his wife, Laura Gray, of Holland; by two daughters, Cija and Tiana Gray, both of Holland; by his mother, Earline Gray, of West Charleston; by the following brothers and sister: Reginald Gray of Brookline, New Hampshire, Brian Gray of Alexandria, Virginia, and Howard Gray of Savanah, Georgia, and Rachel Gray of West Charleston; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held February 17 with the Reverend Roger Fletcher officiating. Full military honors will be held in the spring. , 78, of Barton, beloved husband of Orma Fournier, died peacefully on Thursday, February 13, 2003, at his home with his family at his side. Mr. Fournier was born on June 23, 1924, in Lunenburg, a son of Joseph and Rose (Boucher) Fournier. On June 9, 1947, he married Orma Nourrie, who survives him. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II, where he obtained the rank of corporal. He was honorably discharged on August 8, 1946. He was a bridge and building contractor for the Canadian Pacific Railroad for over 36 years. He held memberships with the Knights of Columbus, St. Paul's Catholic Church, and American Legion Post No. 76, all in Barton. He was Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop No. 62 of Barton, and he was a lifetime member of the Brotherhood Maintenance Way Union. Besides his wife, Orma, of 55 years, he is survived by his children: Aime Joseph Fournier of Red Rock, Texas, Donald L. Fournier and his wife, Helen, of Bowie, Maryland, and Bernard J. "BJ" Fournier and his fiancée, Laurie Miller, of Barton; by seven grandchildren; and by sisters: Blanche Fournier of St. Johnsbury, Leah Houle of Massachusetts, and Jeannette Lewis of Lunenburg. He was predeceased by a grandson, Justin Fournier; by two brothers, Archie and Eugene Fournier; and by a sister, Rita Lewis. Funeral services were held February 18 at St. Paul's Catholic Church with the Reverend Pat Forman celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial. Spring interment will be at St. Paul's Cemetery with full military honors. , 80, of Derby died peacefully Monday, February 17, 2003, in Newport. Mrs. Fortin was born on January 22, 1923, in Island Pond, a daughter of Dennis and Helen (Homes) Twofoot. On October 26, 1946, she married Jules Fortin, who predeceased her in 1998. She and her husband owned and operated the family farm in Holland for over 30 years. The farm is where they raised their family. She enjoyed making different crafts and was very much a family person who liked to babysit for her grandchildren. She liked to visit with family and friends and go for rides. She is survived by her children: Ernest Fortin and his wife, Rolande, of Franklin, Dennis Fortin and his wife, Jacqueline, of Newport Center, Roger Fortin and his wife, Terry, of Franklin, Mary Ann LeClaire and her friend, Roland Harkins, of Groton, Paul Fortin and his friend, Linda Kelley, of Derby, Linda Lucas and her friend, Richard Schearer, of Michigan, Sheila Fortin, and Diane Boulanger; by 30 grandchildren; by 42 great-grandchildren; by a sister, Vernice "Bunny" Payeur, of Derby; by brothers Wyman Twofoot and his wife, Mary, of Derby and Doland Twofoot and his wife, Mary, of New Hampshire; by a daughter-in-law, Judy Fortin, of East Charleston; by a brother-in-law, Phil Sherlaw, of Derby; and by several cousins, nieces, and nephews. On January 17, 1942, she married Alfred Bushey, who predeceased her on April 6. She helped her husband on the family farm, which she enjoyed very much. She is survived by her children Patricia Fournier and her husband, Armand, of Derby and Daniel Bushey of Canaan; by three grandchildren: Cindy Choquette of Oceanside, California, Michael Thompson of Colchester, and Christine Wade of Vista, California; by eight great-grandchildren; by three sisters: Charlotte Lapidow of Williston, Madeline Skinner of Derby, and Lucille Morrow of Palm Desert, California; by a brother-in-law, Durwood Bushey, of Manchester, Connecticut; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Pauline Lennon. , 81, of Derby died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, February 11, 2003, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Griggs was born in Dunedin, New Zealand, on May 12, 1921, to George and Sarah Smith. She married Raymond W. Griggs, captain in the U.S. Army, in 1944 in Auckland, New Zealand. He predeceased her in December 2000. She was known for her great home cooking and her beautiful rose gardens. She greatly enjoyed the company of her family, especially her grandchildren. She dearly loved her homeland of New Zealand. She is survived by her children: Alan Griggs and his wife, Bobbie Jo, of West Suffield, Connecticut, Robert Maple and his wife, Suzie, of Morgan, Paul Griggs and his wife, Lori, of Derby, Judy Wu and her husband, David, of San Diego, California, and Kristy Tetreault and her husband, Mark, of Derby; by her special friend, Veronica Griggs, of Derby; by eight grandchildren; by nine great-grandchildren; and by her brother Len in New Zealand. The family wants to offer its sincere appreciation to her caregivers Georgette Jones, Candy Deslandes, and Avis Billado, who lovingly cared for her during her final weeks. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Funeral services were held on February 15 with the Reverend Roger Fletcher officiating. , 85, of Greensboro died Monday, February 17, 2003, at Copley Hospital in Morrisville. Mrs. White was born October 10, 1917, in Wheelock, the daughter of the late Oloff L. and Grace (Bartlett) Rogers. She attended Greensboro public schools and graduated from Greensboro High School in the class of 1935. On July 9, 1938, she married Irwin Alton White Sr. in Greensboro. He died October 11, 1985. She assisted her husband on the family farm for many years. She was a domestic for Caspian Lake summer residents, a clerk at the Miller's Thumb in Greensboro, and a cook for the Greensboro school lunch program. She was a member of Greensboro United Church of Christ and Caspian Lake Grange No. 382. She was past master of Pamona Grange No. 15, past master of the Vermont State Grange, state master deputy of District No. 7, and a member of the National Grange. She enjoyed playing in the Greensboro Kazoo Band, cooking, and doing volunteer work. She was the recipient of the Greensboro Award in 1996. Survivors include a son, Irwin A. White Jr., and his wife, Gloria, of Greensboro; a sister, Clara Rowland, of Orleans; two grandchildren, Phyllis Crawford of Wilmington and Michael White of Midland, Texas; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services were held on February 21 at Greensboro United Church of Christ with the Reverend Alice M.C. Ling officiating. Spring burial will be in the family lot in the East Craftsbury Cemetery. , 92, of Island Pond died peacefully in Barton on February 17, 2003. Mrs. Reynolds was born in Canaan on December 25, 1910, the daughter of Joseph and Rose (Labounty) Elliott. She married Frank D. Reynolds, who predeceased her on January 6, 1991. She was predeceased by three brothers: Henry, Arthur, and Wilfred; and by four sisters: Lillian Lefebvre, Mary "Lilacs" Maroney, Irene Elliott, and Marion Carlis. She was a member of St. James Parish, Island Pond Historical Society, Brighton Senior Center, Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 798 in Newport, and American Legion Brighton Post No. 80 Ladies Auxiliary. She was very active when she was able at the Brighton Senior Center and loved to make various types of crafts. One of her favorites was Mr. and Mrs. Santa. She was a devout Catholic and an excellent cook. She always had something around the house. She started working at age 18 for the Brighton Furniture Factory, which made wicker furniture. Last year she donated the first sample chair to come off the line to the Brighton Historical Society. She later worked for the blueberry factory in Island Pond when the furniture factory closed. From there she worked 20 years at the veneer mill in North Stratford, New Hampshire. She was a very hard worker all her life and a loving mother. She is survived by her children: Bradley and his wife, Gloria, of Derby, Janice Fournier and her husband, Joseph, of Island Pond, and Elliott of Island Pond; by one sister, Pauline Guay, of Bradenton, Florida, and Island Pond; by seven grandchildren; by three stepgrandchildren; by 13 great-grandchildren; and by several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on February 21 at St. James Catholic Church in Island Pond with the Reverend Paul Houde officiating. Spring interment will take place at Lakeside Cemetery in Island Pond. , 59, born October 24, 1943, in Barton to Averyl (Gay) and Harry Owen, died January 23, 2003, in his Las Vegas, Nevada, home. Mr. Owen had been working as a civilian supervisory electrician, doing high voltage work, in the infrastructure department at Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts for many years. In October 2002 he was transferred to Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, where he was employed at the time of his death. He leaves behind many close and dedicated friends and co-workers and a variety of family members. His friends, co-workers, and neighbors described him as a very good man - kind and generous to a fault. Everyone in his circle of life, which he had made for himself, spoke of him with deep regard and respect. What greater thing can any one ask for in this life than to be well loved. And he was. Besides his work he had two great loves, golfing and cooking. In memory of him, anyone wishing to donate to a junior golfers fund, a program for kids wanting to learn to play golf, should contact his sister Penelope Owen at 696 Old Deuso Road, Eden, Vermont 05652. At the request of the deceased, there will be no funeral service. It was his wish to be cremated, and he will be buried on his father's plot at Welcome O. Brown Cemetery in Barton.

, 46, of Newport and Tucson, Arizona, beloved son of Russell and Jean Cowles of Tucson and the late Robert A. Manginello of Ludlow, died unexpectedly Tuesday, February 11, 2003, in Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Manginello was born December 29, 1956, in Newport and graduated from North Country Union High School in 1974. He moved to Tucson in 1979 and was employed by D.S.W. Trucking Company. He will be sadly missed by his parents in Tucson; by his sister Debbie; by his brother-in-law Paul Christie and niece Sara of Charlotte; by his uncles and aunts: Louis and Gerry Barber of Derby Line and Ross and Linda Barber of Lower Waterford; and by his cousins: Janet, Ben, and Erin Caswell of Westfield, Massachusetts, Shawn Barber of Midlothian, Virginia, and Isobel Williamson of Saint Bruno, Quebec. , 84, of Newport died at her home on Monday, February 24, 2003, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Kelley was born in Tomaphobia, Quebec, on June 2, 1918, the daughter of Ray and Pearl (Sheldon) Jewett. She worked as a store clerk at M.H. Fishmans. She was a 50-year member of Veteran of Foreign Wars Alfred Pepin Post No. 798 Ladies Auxiliary in Newport and a member of American Legion Island Pond Post No. 80 Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing darts and shuffleboard. In July 1942 she married Gordon Kelley, who predeceased her in 1995. She is survived by her sons: Gordon R. Kelley Jr. and his friend, Brenda Turgeon, of Newport, Ray "Skip" Kelley and his wife, Evelyn, of Newport Center, and David Kelley of Derby Line; by her grandchildren Tammy Fisher and her husband, Chris Sr., of Allentown, Pennsylvania, and Lorie Kelley of Newport; by her great-grandchildren: Stephanie, Samantha, Angelina, Christopher, and Brooke; and by nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Raymond Jewett; and by her sister Rena Sergeant. , 63, of Newport and formerly of St. Johnsbury, died in Newport on Monday, February 17, 2003. Mr. Farrand was born in Barton on October 8, 1939, the son of Doris (Woodbury) and Dewey Farrand Sr. He was a certified drug and alcohol counselor in St. Johnsbury for ten years. He then worked as a driver for Rural Country Transport for one year. He was an avid sports fan and wanted to be a sportscaster. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his children. He is survived by his children: Kim Thompson of Hardwick, Terri Farrand of Sutton, Lynn Farrand of Foxboro, Massachusetts, Kenni Ann Hawkesworth of Jupiter, Florida, Tracy Souliere of Newport, and Shawn Farrand of Newport; by his companion, Eleanor Bradford, of Newport; by his brother Thomas Farrand of Newport; by his sisters: Shirley Dezotell of Newport, Joyce Farrand of Newport, and Helen Leno of Orleans; by eight grandchildren; by one great-granddaughter; and by several nieces and nephews.
