He served as director at Bement Center Camp in Charlton, Mass., and on the faculty of St. Michaels\' Conference. He founded St. Luke\'s Angican Church Camp. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lois Clark Chamberlain; two sons, David Chamberlain of Smyrna, Ga., and James Chamberlain of Gaithersburg, Md.; three daughters, Katherine Lippman of Palmer, Mass., Mary Weir of Rindge, N.H., and Anne Bills of Whitefield, Maine; 10 grandchildren; and his brother, the Rev. Canon Donald Chamberlain of Holden, Mass. He was predeceased by one granddaughter, and his parents, Walter and Ruby Chamberlain of Palmer, Mass. , 89, of Whitefield, N.H., and formerly of Lyman, N.H., passed away Jan. 31 at the Morrison Nursing Home. Gertrude was born Oct. 26, 1913, a daughter to Leon and Estle (Johnson) King in East Montpelier. She was employed by the Mary Hitchcock Hospital for many years. She enjoyed many activities with the other residents of Morrison Nursing Home during her stay there. Surviving family members include her son, Jerrold King of Lyman; one brother, Lawrence A. King of East Concord, Vt.; two sisters, Betty Bachelor of Bradford, and Grace Wittamore of Florida; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held by the family at a later date.

, Sr., 91, of Jefferson, N.H., died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster. Mr. Ingerson was born June 30, 1911 in Jefferson, the son of William and Marion A. (Sheltry) Ingerson. In his early years, Clifton was employed with the New Hampshire Highway Department, and also worked as a woodsman for a time. He later went to work at Gilman Paper Company, where he was employed for 25 years until retiring in 1973. He enjoyed hunting and fishing his whole life. Family members include a son, Clifton H. Ingerson Jr. of Whitefield; a daughter, Mary Tillotson of Lancaster; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-granchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, Feb. 4, from 2-4 p.m., at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, at 2 p.m., at the funeral home. The Rev. David Pendleton, pastor of the Lancaster Congregational United Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will be in the spring in Forest Vale Cemetery in Jefferson.

, 70, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003 in Springfield, Vt. He was born in St. Johnsbury to Raymond Carlton and Mildred Hardy McFarlin, May 25, 1932. He graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy. Following high school, he served as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne. Staff sgt. McFarlin served at Fort Campbell, Ky., and Augsburg, Germany. Upon his return to civilian life, he graduated from Lyndon Teacher\'s College, earned his master\'s degree from the University of Vermont, and his doctor of philosophy degree from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. Dr. McFarlin devoted his professional life to education. He was a teacher and coach at Williston Central School in Williston; teaching principal at Westford Village School in Westford; supervising principal at Williston Central School in Williston; director of the Action Center in Essex Junction; teacher of graduate courses at St. Michael\'s College in Winooski; superintendent of schools for Essex-Caledonia Supervisory Union in Concord; adjunct assistant professor of education at the University of Vermont in Burlington; director of admissions and development at St. Johnsbury Academy in St. Johnsbury; superintendent of schools for the Rutland Northeast Supervisory Union in Brandon; superintendent of schools for the Peru Central School District in Peru, N.Y.; superintendent of schools for the Cumberland School Department in Cumberland, R.I.; and principal at Chester-Andover Elementary School in Chester. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife Charlotte Fink McFarlin of North Springfield, whom he married July 10, 1954; his loving children, Michael E. and Pauline McFarlin of Peru, N.Y., Patrick L. and Melinda McFarlin of Newport, N.H., David K. McFarlin of Brownsville, Vt., and Laurie (McFarlin) and Franklyn Hudson of Pittsford; a sister, Malva M. Lavigne of Shelburne; a brother-in-law, Stanley Fink of Milford, N.H.; eight grandchildren; and two nephews. , 40, of Whiting, Vt., died unexpectedly at home, Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003. She was born in Burlington, Aug. 31, 1962, the daughter of Louis H. Kurrelmeyer and Phyllis A. Damon. She attended the Brearley School in New York City, and graduated from Rice Memorial High School in Burlington. She was a graduate of the University of Vermont, with a bachelor of science degree in mathematics, and Ohio State University with a master of science in mathematics. Nancy worked as a scientist, mathematician, economist, and as a technical and business analyst for the Central Intelligence Agency and a variety of Fortune 100 corporations including Exxon, ADP and Schering-Plough. After leaving Schering-Plough, Nancy worked as a senior technical consultant in the bio/pharmaceutical industry with a variety of distinguished organizations, where she was responsible for many successful projects. She was an accomplished technologist, system implementer and instructor. Nancy had a unique gift for making people feel at ease and comfortable, and for presenting complex technical matter in a refreshing and logical light. Her commitment as a teacher was always to focus on the success of the individual. Her clients valued her technical experience and skills as well as her gentle manner. Nancy gave her time and talents to the Drug Information Association as a tutorial instructor and conference contributor. She will be sorely missed within her professional community. Nancy was a member of the UVM and Rice Memorial High School golf teams, and was, for many years, a member of Kwiniaska Golf Club in Shelburne, Vt. Nancy was a writer of poetry and is the author of five yet-to-be published spy novels, writing under the name of L.J. Hayner. Nancy had a lifelong passion for camping and hiking, especially in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, and was moving forward with plans to build a self-sufficient house "off the grid" in Guildhall, Vt., on her land which faces her beloved Presidential peaks. Nancy shared her love of mathematics by teaching and mentoring students of all ages. Nancy is survived by her grandmother, Laura Damon of Burlington; her mother, Phyllis A. Damon of New York City; her stepmother, Martina K. Kurrelmeyer of Shelburne; her sister, Ellen L. Kurrelmeyer and husband John S. Travis of Whiting, Vt.; her brother, Louis H. Kurrelmeyer Jr. and wife Kelley of Brewster, N.Y.; and her niece and nephew, Amy Kurrelmeyer of Brewster, N.Y., and William Kurrelmeyer of Forrest City, Ariz. Visiting hours will be held Saturday, Feb. 8, from 1 to 3 p.m., at the Sanderson Funeral Home, 115 South Main St., Middlebury, Vt., with a memorial service following immediately. , 80, of Lancaster Road, Lunenburg, died at her home Tuesday evening, Feb. 4, 2003, following complications from cancer. Mrs. Dunnells was born in Neptune, N.J., July 5, 1922, the daughter of Leo and Dora (Stoky) Fielder. For many years she was the assistant cook for the Gilman Head Start Program. For four years she was the delinquent tax collector for Lunenburg. She was a former resident of Point Pleasant Borough, N.J., where she was a 35-year member of the Harvey Memorial Boosters Club and the Harvey Memorial Church, Pt. Pleasant, N.J. She and her husband, Richard O. Dunnells Sr., were the owners of the Triple Dee Motel and Campground in Lunenburg. Mr. Dunnells predeceased her on May 5, 2001. Surviving family members include four children, Bonnie C. VanHorn of Lunenburg, Richard O. Dunnells Jr. of Bricktown, N.J., Mark F. Dunnells of Middletown, Va., and Bryan D. Dunnells of Lunenburg; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by four brothers, John Fielder of Spring Lake, N.J., Robert Fielder of South Royalton, Vt., and Kenneth Fielder and Harry Fielder, both of Bradley Beach, N.J. , 51, of Littleton, passed away at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003. He was born April 20, 1951, the youngest of five children of John G. Mac Iver Sr. and the late Norma Willey Mac Iver, who predeceased him in 1998. Glen was an accomplished mason and was employed by Fern Gagne Masonry of Littleton for 18 years. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fly fisherman. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his talented gift of guitar playing and singing. He liked car racing and being with the Quint Boisvert Racing Team. Glen lost his eyesight in 1996 due to diabetes, but was a great trouper in finding his own way and being very independent. Glen is survived by his daughter, Sadie Millen and husband Greg of Littleton; a son, Jeremy Heath and wife Jen of Madrid, Iowa; his father, John Mac Iver Sr. of Littleton; three brothers, Stephen and wife Linda, John and wife Sara, Timothy and wife Carol, and one sister, Bonnie Trahan and husband Richard, all of Littleton; two grandchildren, Garret and Allie Millen, who were his pride and joy; and many nieces and nephews. Glen touched many lives and will be dearly missed by all. There will be no calling hours, at Glen\'s request. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, Feb. 8, at the home of Bonnie and Dick Trahan, 129 Pilgrim Drive, Littleton. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Before retiring he worked as the superintendent of buildings and grounds at St. Johnsbury Academy in St. Johnsbury. He is survived by his wife, Elaine (Jorgensen) Steenland of Lyndonville; his children and their spouses, Jane and Keith Goulding of Lyndonville, and Tom and Melissa Steenland of Williston; a son-in-law and his wife, David and Marcia Sanderson of Princeton, W.Va.; his grandchildren, John Sanderson, Michael Sanderson, Danny Sanderson, Bonnie Kenyon, Karl Goulding, Kimberly Bouffard, Karen Goulding, Ryan Steenland and Erik Steenland; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two daughters, Thelma Steenland and Carol Sanderson; and a granddaughter, Cathy Sanderson. , 62, of Lebanon, N.H., died Monday morning, Feb. 3, 2003 at his home. He was born in St. Johnsbury, May 13, 1940, a son of Roy Glenn Potter and Pauline (Kidder) Potter. He grew up in St. Johnsbury and graduated from St. Johnsbury Trade School in 1959. He was married June 17, 1959 to Geraldine Houston. Mr. Potter began his career as a jeweler at L.B. Kidder\'s Jewelers in St. Johnsbury, where his uncle taught him clock and watch repair. He then went to Simon\'s Jewelers in Brattleboro, and later worked at various jewelry stores and ultimately established R. Potter & Son Jewelers on the green in Lebanon, where he was co-owner and operator from 1988 until 1997. He worked in the jewelry industry for over 35 years. He enjoyed many outdoor activities including golfing, horseshoes, sailing, taking long walks with his beagle "Ticker" and canoeing. He was a member of the men\'s card club, American Legion in White River, 32nd degree Mason, past member of Rotary International, and was a member of the American Gem Society and a Registered Jeweler. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1957 until 1964. He also enjoyed square dancing with the Twin State Squares, bowling and cooking. Most of all he was devoted to his family. He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Potter of Lebanon; his parents, Glenn and Pauline Potter of St. Johnsbury; five children, Deborah Ruggeri of Gloversville, N.Y., Laurie Armstrong of Claremont, N.H., Randy Potter of Lebanon, Diane Vaccarello of Bedford, N.H., and First Lt. Pauline McCormick of West Point, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Petty Officer Third Class Kimberly Raponi of Virginia Beach, Va., Kelly and Frank Raponi of Gloversville, N.Y., Michelle Armstrong of Point Lookout, Mo., and Ben Armstrong of Claremont, N.H.; two sisters, Betty Weston of Danville, and Glynda Rosebrook of Lancaster; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was born in Littleton, the son of Winston and Abbie (LeClair) Richards. He graduated from Littleton High School, Class of 1962. Following high school he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, attaining the rank of corporal, and he served as a squad leader during two tours of combat in Vietnam. He was the recipient of two Purple Hearts for battle injuries received. He was employed for many years as a rural postal carrier, most recently assigned to the U.S. Post Office in Groveton. Due to health reasons, he retired in 1999. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Littleton, and the Littleton Elks Club. He was predeceased by a sister, Gail. He is survived by two children, Heather A. Richards of North Andover, Mass., and Michael P. Richards of Littleton; his mother, Abbie Richards of Littleton; and two sisters, Patricia McLure of Barrington, N.H., and Kathleen Damon of Ridgefield, Conn. , 83, of 515 Dartmouth College Highway, Haverhill, N.H., died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003 at the Grafton County Nursing Home in North Haverhill, after an extended illness. He was born in Woodsville, Nov. 15, 1919, the son of James D. and Mabel (Povey) Barber. Jim was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army Air Force. He was a rural mail carrier for Haverhill, Piermont and Pike, N.H., for 26 years. Mr. Barber was a member of the American Legion Ross-Wood Post 20 of Woodsville; town auditor for many years; and treasurer of the precinct of Haverhill Corner. He loved bowling, fishing, stacking firewood, playing golf and sugaring. He was predeceased by his sister, Peg Munn. Surviving relatives include his wife of 59 years, Verna (Brown) Barber of Haverhill; one daughter, Cheryl Barnes of Concord, N.H.; two sons, Tom and Stephan Barber, both of Haverhill; and four grandchildren. There will be no calling hours or services at this time. A graveside service will be held in the Ladd Street Cemetery May 17 at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. , 51, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003 in Las Vegas, Nev. He was born Nov. 21, 1951, the second son of Luigi and Alice (Todd) Castello. He graduated from Woodsville High School, Class of 1970, and spent many years in Florida. His various interests and abilities led him to many areas of employment, including cable television installation, post office clerk, salesman, truck driver and ski instructor. At the time of his death he was employed as a salesman for Kinetico Quality Water of Las Vegas. He was a kind and affectionate man with a wonderfully alert mind, which absorbed everything both practical and philosophical. He loved adventure, travel, people and God. His memory will be cherished by family and friends. James was predeceased by his father, Luigi, March 28, 1985; and a brother, Peter, March 11, 1982. For the past three years he lived in Bridgton, Maine, with his wife Katherine (Perry) Castello, his five stepchildren, and his loyal dog True who survives him. He is also survived by his mother, Alice Castello of Bath; his children from a previous marriage, Michael "Levi" of Plymouth, N.H., Sarah of Austin, Texas, and Ariel of Woodsville; one grandson, Billy; and two brothers, Paul of Bath, and Joseph of Kitchner, Ontario, Canada. A memorial service will be held Thursday, Feb. 13, at 11 a.m., at the Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch St., Woodsville. Steven Chase, a very close friend, will officiate. , 88, formerly of East St. Johnsbury and the St. Johnsbury House, passed away at The Pines Rehabilitation and Health Center in Lyndon, Sunday evening, Feb. 9, 2003. Born in Concord Nov. 25, 1914, she was the last survivor of six children born to Frederick and Mary (Bickford) Lawrence, and attended schools in Waterford and St. Johnsbury. She was married to Wayne Steele; they had four children, Marilyn, Donald, Mary and Paul. She later married Clyde Warren, who died in 1975. She had worked as a housekeeper for several local families and at the old Brightlook Hospital. Better known throughout her life as Marjorie, she had a great devotion to her family. She loved to cook; was a wonderful gardener of vegetables and flowers; and belonged to the Third Congregational Church of East St. Johnsbury. She was predeceased by her daughter Marilyn Wheelock in 1960. She is survived by three children, Donald Steele and wife Mauna of Fort Collins, Colo., Mary Caswell and husband Norman of Shelburne, and Paul Steele and wife Lucy of Kirby; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Olive Lawrence of Lebanon, N.H.; three nieces and one nephew; several great-nieces and -nephews, and in-laws in the Warren family. Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 14, at 11 a.m., at the Sayles Funeral Home, with the Revs. William and Ann Robertson officiating. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army from 1944-46. On June 19, 1948 he married Lillian Mae Bartley of Hartford, N.Y. They would have been married 55 years in June. He was a graduate of Hartford Central School and was the 1944 valedictorian. He graduated in 1951 from Springfield College in Springfield, Mass., with a bachelor of science degree. He taught various academic courses and coached numerous sports at Peacham Academy from 1952 to 1954; the Blake School for Boys in Hopkins, Minn., 1954-1962; Northfield High School, Northfield, Vt., 1962-1968, which included winning the state baseball championship; and Randolph Union High School, Randolph, Vt., 1968-1977. Throughout his teaching career he worked weekends and summers for St. Johnsbury Trucking, and he worked there full-time from 1977 until his retirement in 1992. He loved his pets and also enjoyed traveling, hunting, cross country skiing, working on ball fields, and many people will remember him and his 1941 Willys Jeep. He also volunteered for Literacy Volunteers in Glens Falls, N.Y. Survivors include his wife Lillian; a daughter, Karin Ash and husband Mark of Fort Ann, N.Y.; a son, Mark Miller and friend Michelle Bardin of Queensbury, N.Y.; a daughter, Janis Miller and daughter Meagan Sheridan and Meagan\'s father Rob Sheridan of Randolph, Vt.; Janis\' friend Craig Blodgett; grandchildren Bill and Cayla Miller and their mother Kelly Miller of Queensbury, N.Y.; a brother, David Miller and wife Dorothy of St. Paul, Minn.; Lillian\'s sisters and their husbands, Mary and Stan Hanna, and Phyllis and Willard Graham of Hartford, N.Y.; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. , 82, of Pine Street, Littleton, passed away Friday, Feb. 7, 2003 at Littleton Regional Hospital. Edna was born March 5, 1920 in Haverhill, N.H., a daughter to Lee and Maude (Eastman) McKean. She attended area schools and was married to the late Earl Edwards. She had been employed as a waitress at the Continental 93 Motor Inn as well as several other North Country restaurants. Surviving family members include one son, Ray Earl Edwards of Whitefield; three daughters, Joyce Lancaster of Plainville, Conn., Erlene Hall of Virginia, and Wanda Skrobak of Lisbon; two brothers, Leland McKean of West Hartford, Conn., and Earl Spooner of Concord, N.H.; and 21 grandchildren. Mr. Drew was born in Lancaster, Dec. 12, 1920, the son of Fred C. and Rosie M. (Irvin) Drew. For most of his life he resided in Lancaster, and he worked many years for the Brown Company in North Stratford, NH and Seaward Construction. For approximately 11 years he resided in Manchester, NH, working in the tanneries there until retiring and returning to Lancaster. He enjoyed rides around the countryside, bowling, and mowing and maintaining lawns. He served overseas with the U.S. Army during World War II in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was a life member of the John W. Weeks VFW Post 3041, Lancaster. Family members include five sons, Robert J. Drew of Carlisle, PA, Rodney S. Drew of Lancaster, David G. Drew of Lunenburg, Phillip P. Drew of Lancaster, and Thomas D. Mrs. McCann was born in Maplewood, New Jersey Dec. 28, 1942, the daughter of Al and Josephine Rokosny. Kathryn was raised and schooled in New Jersey and resided for a time in Pennsylvania. She has always been a pivotal part of her husband\'s business endeavors in Alaska and Lancaster, including Lancaster Storage. She was a published photographer who had numerous Alaskan photos in aviation journals and travel magazines. She has resided in Lancaster for the past seven years. Family members include her husband Gerry McCann of Lancaster; a son Brian of Philadelphia; her mother Josephine Rokosny of New Jersey; and a brother Ronald Rokosny of New Jersey. , 78, died Saturday evening Feb. 15, 2003, at Country Village Genesis Elder Care Center, Lancaster, after a long illness. Born in Lancaster July 18, 1924, he was the son of Cleo and Mildred (Boucher) Marshall. He graduated from Lancaster Academy in 1942 and was the first Lancaster resident to enter the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He served as a Technical Sergeant in Aviation, and was stationed on Midway Island and in Hawaii. He returned to attend college and graduated from Boston University. He was employed by Joseph E. Seagram & Sons, Inc., in Baltimore, Md., and throughout his career worked in Kentucky, Indiana and finally in New York as manager of production budgets and standards. He retired from Seagram\'s after 38 years, and returned to Lancaster in 1983. Mr. Marshall was a member of the Knights of Columbus (3rd Degree), Council 3960 of Pikesville, Md., a member of the Kentucky Colonels, and the Toastmasters. In Lancaster he served as president of the Lancaster Alumni Association for nine years and was a member of the Carroll Stoughton Scholarship Awards Committee. He was a daily communicant of All Saints Church in Lancaster and served as lector, Eucharistic minister and daily altar server. He was a member of the Men of St. Joseph and served on the parish council for five years. Family members include his wife of 57 years, Lorraine (Quigley) Marshall of Lancaster; a daughter Kathi Marshall of Lancaster; four sons Gary Marshall of Nashua, N.H., Richard Marshall of Wappingers Falls, N.Y., Jeffrey Marshall of Warwick, N.Y., and Timothy Marshall of Newark, Del.; and one sister, Jean Foss of Lancaster. , 84, of Littleton, Mass., died Feb. 14, 2003 from congestive heart failure at the Life Care Center of Nashoba Valley, where she had resided for the past 11/2 years. Mrs. Ware was a former longtime resident of Harvard and Bolton, Mass., and Spring Hill, Fla., and was the widow of the late William R. Ware, her husband of 62 years, who died Sept. 19, 2002. Born in Harvard, Mass., Feb. 3, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Ole G. and Bessie R. (Crandell) Gabrielsen. In 1933, she won first place in an MSPCA poster contest. She was a 1938 graduate of Bromfield Academy in Harvard and attended Brooksville Community College in Brooksville, Fla., from 1974 to 1978. Mrs. Ware devoted her life to homemaking and raising a family. She also worked as cafeteria manager at the Emerson School in Bolton and as a cafeteria worker at the Nashoba Regional High School in Bolton. Other employment included the Fruitlands Museum Tea Room, Perkins School and Whitney Homestead. She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church, New England Club, Legion Auxiliary, Bolton Grange, Young Republicans Club, Bolton Fair Committee, and a leader with the 4-H Club. Her hobbies included knitting, needlework, crafts, cooking, painting and sketching. Vera was a selfless motivator and exemplary role model both for her children and countless Bolton 4-H\'ers. Often involved in church activities, a variety of school and community projects also benefited from her generous volunteer spirit. Much of her life was devoted to the creation of art and handiwork that now grace the homes of loved ones near and far. All who knew her will miss her famous apple pie. Even more, we shall miss Vera - always true to her name. Surviving her are her daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia (Ware) and Eugene Montrone of Clarks Green, Pa.; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Jeanette Ware of East Burke; daughter, Barbara Ware of Gilsum, N.H.; son, Stephen Ware of Bolton, Mass.; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl A. Mr. Fassett was born in Lunenburg, May 10, 1938, the son of Earl Fred and Ola Fannie (Whiting) Fassett. Mr. Fassett was raised in the Lunenburg/Gilman area, but later moved to Connecticut, where he lived and worked as a stonecutter in the Stoney Creek Quarry in Branford, CT, for 30 years. In 1991 he returned to Gilman, where he resided for his remaining years. He was a 20-year member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Connecticut and served four years with the Littleton National Guard. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed salt water and fresh water fishing throughout his life. , 77, of Stevens Terrace, Lancaster, NH, died Feb. 18, 2003, at Country Village Genesis Eldercare in Lancaster. Mr. Keith was born in Brockton, MA, May 17, 1925, the son of Clayton and Vera (Freeman) Keith. Freeman attended high school at Tabor Academy in Marion, MA. He then attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute with an eye toward a technical career. His education was interrupted by World War II when he became a radio technician in the Navy. After being discharged from the Navy, he changed his course and went to Harvard University, majoring in Greek and Latin. He was also president of the Harvard Glee Club. After graduation from Harvard and marriage to Margie (Margaret Ridgely), Freeman decided he wanted to live in Vermont and be a printer. After several years at the Leahy Press in Montpelier, he became one of the first employees of the fledgling Stinehour Press in Lunenburg. There he had a world as a scholarly editor and book designer, and educating many others in the art of the printed book. He was a member of the Society of Printers and the Club of Odd Volumes of Boston. A collection of books designed by him is on permanent display at Tabor Academy. He was a quietly generous volunteer in the local community: reading the Coos County Democrat onto tape for weekly distribution to the blind, transporting people to appointments, reading to elderly friends, tutoring people working toward their GEDs, lettering certificates and signs for organizations and individuals, active in local peace and community-supported agriculture networks. He was always willing to help a friend by proofreading an article, translating a phrase or advising on the design of a project. For Weeks Memorial Library he did cataloging in the stacks and on the computer, and served on the expansion committee. He was an avid recycler and was named Lancaster\'s Recycler of the Year in 1993. He received a Good Neighbor award in 2002 from the local Masonic Lodge in recognition of his outstanding service to the community. Freeman was also a proponent of wise energy use and was the first person in the North Country to buy a hybrid (gas and electric) automobile which he loved sharing with others. Freeman was a long-time member of St. Paul\'s Episcopal Church of Lancaster, serving the congregation and its individuals in numerous ways both large and small. Family members include his wife Margie of Lancaster; a son, Christopher Keith of San Leandro, CA; a daughter, Cynthia Keith of Norwich; and two grandchildren, Susanna and James. , 93, of 200 Wake Robin Drive-Lynden, Shelburne, died peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at the Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington. She was born in Newton, Mass., June 24, 1909, daughter of Dr. John and Isabel (Trowbridge) Merrill. Margaret spent much of her childhood in Turkey and Syria where her father was a missionary. At the onset of World War I she returned with her mother and sister Dorothy to the United States on a refugee ship. Her father, president of Central Turkey College in Aintab, Turkey, at the time, remained in Turkey to manage the school\'s interests. Margaret graduated from the American Community School in Beirut, Lebanon, in 1926, and Vassar College in 1931. On June 28, 1931, she married the Rev. Alfred Harris Coons. They lived in the Hudson River Valley, N.Y.; Auburndale and Woburn, Mass.; and Windsor and Wells River, Vt. They owned a summer camp on Groton Pond, Groton, for many years and moved to Wake Robin in Shelburne in 1993. Mrs. Coons loved the outdoors, hiking, camping, gardening, bird watching; loved art in many forms; enjoyed reading and understanding other cultures. Her husband, the Rev. Alfred H. Coons, predeceased her June 23, 1996. , 96, of Hardwick, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at the Copley Hospital in Morrisville. She was born April 10, 1906 in Clarenceville, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of the late Thomas and Sophia (Laroe) Lawyea Sr. She attended Holy Angels Catholic School in St. Albans. On June 8, 1926 she married George Edward Nolan in St. Albans. In 1927 she and her husband moved to Hardwick, where she has made her home for more than 60 years. Florence and her husband owned and operated a family farm on Center Road in Hardwick for more than 17 years. She retired in 1960 when the farm was sold. Florence was a member of St. Norbert\'s Roman Catholic Church, and a charter member of Court St. Veronica Catholic Daughters in Hardwick. She enjoyed her home and family, as well as crocheting, knitting and cooking. Survivors include two daughters, Teresa Earle of Hardwick, and Janet Weary of Rantoul, IL; 14 grandchildren, Linda Thomas and husband David of Hardwick, Susan Earle of Hardwick, Lisa Kish and husband Keith of Hardwick, Jeffrey Earle of Philadelphia, PA, Mark Weary and wife Tina of Phoenix, AZ, Regina Skillings and husband Karl of Illinois, Shawn Weary and wife Tammy of Illinois, Carla Phillips and husband Keith of Illinois, Felicia Weary of Phoenix, AZ, Michael Nolan of Plainfield, Elizabeth Doak of New Hampshire, Peter Nolan of Barre, Holly Nolan of New Hampshire, and Penny Blair and husband William of Fairfax; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a daughter-in-law, Roberta Nolan of Plainfield; a sister-in-law, Dot Lawyea of St. Albans; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, George, in 1976; four brothers, Raymond, Thomas Jr., John and Kenneth; and three sisters, Lillian Berry, Gert Gadue and Rita Lawyea. A prayer service will be held at 8:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, Feb. 24, at 11 a.m., at St. Norbert\'s Catholic Church in Hardwick, with the Rev. , 59, of 370 South St., Littleton, NH, died Monday at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born Dec. 8, 1943 in Littleton, a son of John L. "Tom" and Servina (West) Tuck. He graduated from Littleton High school in 1962 and married Patricia A. Snide June 30, 1973 at the Littleton Congregational Church. He worked for Hugh Gallen Motors and was a full-time firefighter for Littleton Fire Department, retiring as a lieutenant following 28 years of service. Charlie also worked for many years, during his "off-time" from the fire department, for Ray Marshall Survey Co. of Littleton. For several years he worked part-time for the Ross Ambulance Service of Littleton. For the past nine years he had been employed by Inland Divers of Lancaster. Charlie was proud to have served with the Army National Guard for many years. He was a member of the Littleton Elks Club 1831. He loved his family and enjoyed auto racing, listening to country music, amateur photography, snowmobiling and woodworking. Charlie is survived by his loving wife, Pat; a daughter, Constance A.; a son, Charles E. Tuck Jr., all of Littleton; two grandchildren; two sisters, Sarah Gillengs of Plainfield, NH, and Joan Ludwig of Hokos, NJ; a step-daughter, Phyllis Moses and husband Raymond of Canaan; and nieces and nephews. He attended schools in Lyndon and the St. Johnsbury Trade School. Reginald was a veteran of the Korean War and enjoyed hunting, camping and truck driving. He was owner-operator of a construction and excavation company in the area. , 86, of Landaff, N.H., passed away Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003 at the Cottage Hospital in Woodsville. She was born in Lyman, N.H., Oct. 31, 1916, a daughter to Sim and Ida (Wallen) Lemay. Alice enjoyed the domestic duties that go along with being a homemaker. She liked cooking for her family and enjoyed picnics and fishing. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by one son, Douglas Hanks of Jackson, Maine; five daughters, Shirley Bouvier of Detroit, Mich., Jane Holmes of Auburn, N.H., Carroll Merrill of Concord, N.H., Julie Ellsworth of Littleton, and Deborah Pierce of Lunenburg; 23 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents; two brothers; three sisters; and her husband Sherley, who passed away July 15, 1999, and to whom she was married for 62 years. There will be no services at this time. A graveside service in the Moulton Hill Cemetery is planned at the convenience of the family in the springtime. , 86, of Kinsman Lodge, Easton Road, Franconia, passed away Feb. 22, 2003, in the same house in which he was born 86 years ago. A native of Franconia, Stuart was born Dec. 15, 1916, a son to Edward and Gladys (Bowles) McKenzie. He graduated from Dow Academy and was a farmer until an injury forced him into retirement in 1970. Perhaps his greatest enjoyment came from operating his sawmill. Like his father, Edward McKenzie, he enjoyed the craft of making lumber from the trees which grew in the Easton Valley. For many years Stuart did custom sawing for local landowners who used the lumber to build their houses and barns. Surviving family members include a son, Joel McKenzie of Franconia; three daughters, Nancy Van Kleeck of Exeter, N.H., Susan Thompson of Franconia, and Martha Callender of Manchester, Mass.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. His wife, Marjorie (Noyes) McKenzie, predeceased him in 1984, and his second wife, Harriet (Stanton) Noyes McKenzie predeceased him in 1996. There will be no services at this time. A graveside service in the Danville Green Cemetery is planned at the convenience of the family in the springtime.

He was born in Barre, Vt., a son of Charles and Rose (Bates) Corson. He spent most of his lifetime in the Whitefield and Bethlehem area. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in Germany. He was a member of the American Legion and the Eagles Club of Littleton. Steve was a dedicated member of AA, and was also a member of the New Hampshire Doberman Club. He is survived by his mother, Rose Corson of Bethlehem; two brothers, Matthew Colburn of Montpelier and John Corson of Brandon, Miss; and two nephews. She was born Oct. 1, 1917, the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary (Bowen) Emerson. Her husband, Gordon W. Thurston, predeceased her. Before retiring, she worked as a nurse\'s aide and also cared for many children in the area. She is survived by her brother, William Emerson of Marietta, Calif.; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by five sisters, Bertha Emerson, Edith Brown, Susie Maynard, Elizabeth Penn and Josephine Stephens; and by seven brothers, Wesley, Andrew, Frank, Hollis, Clifford and John and Clarence Emerson. , 96, of West Burke, died Sunday morning, Feb. 23, 2003, at the Elder House in St. Johnsbury. She was born July 9, 1906, in Derby, the last surviving child of Maurice and Nora (Bullock) Burbank. On June 11, 1925, Avis married Gilman W. "Gil" Ford. Avis was a member of the West Burke Methodist Church. She worked on many church suppers throughout the years and helped out wherever she could. Avis loved her home, her family and her friends. Crocheting, knitting and going out to eat brought her much enjoyment. Survivors include a niece, Nancy (Deblois) Dresser (whom Avis and Gil raised from the age of 2) and husband Harold of Lyndon and their family Barbara Dresser and Joanne Myers and husband Jeff; another niece, Phyllis Burbank of West Burke; a sister-in-law, Ruth Ford of Granville, N.Y.; and other nieces and nephews and many friends. Avis was preceded in death by her husband of 77 years, Gilman Ford, Sept. 20, 2002; her sister, Iva LaBay; and her brother, George Burbank. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 1 p.m. at the Guibord Funeral Home with longtime friend and former pastor, the Rev. Robert Leno, and present pastor, the Rev. She was born June 2, 1918, in Tomifobia, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Ray and Pearl (Sheldon) Jewett. Leona worked as a store clerk at M.H. Fishmans. She was a 50 year member of the Alfred Pepin VFW Post 798 Ladies Auxiliary in Newport, and a member of the American Legion Post 80 Auxiliary in Island Pond. She enjoyed playing darts and shuffleboard. In July of 1942, Leona married Gordon Kelley, who predeceased her in 1995. She is survived by three sons, Gordon R. Kelley Jr. and friend Brenda Turgeon of Newport, Ray "Skip" Kelley and wife Evelyn of Newport Center, and David Kelley of Derby Line; two grandchildren, Tammy Fisher and husband Chris Sr. of Allentown, Pa., and Lorie Kelley of Newport; five great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Samantha, Angelina, Christopher and Brooke; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Raymond Jewett, and her sister, Rena Sergeant. She was born in Dalton, N.H., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gay. She lived most of her lifetime in the Dalton and Whitefield area prior to relocating to Rochester in 1973. During her many years in the North Country she worked in the dietary department at the former Morrison Hospital, Whitefield; at the Peckett\'s Inn, Sugar Hill; and worked for several years for Senator Weeks of Lancaster; but foremost she was a dedicated mother and homemaker. She was predeceased by two sons, Fred and Lawrence, and a daughter, Geraldine. She is survived by two sons, Earl Boswell of Whitefield and Paisley, Fla., and Edward Boswell of Whitefield; three daughters, Una Lewis and Mary Rodrigue, both of Rochester, and Ruby Haefner of Boston, Mass.; 24 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and two great-great-great-grandchildren. He was employed by Vermont Marble Company for many years, retiring in 1974. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, St. Michaels Society and the Holy Name Society. He was a drummer for Czachors Orchestra. He enjoyed playing harmonica and spoons as a volunteer at Haven Health Care. Survivors include a son, Joseph S. Kasprzak and wife Patricia (O\'Brien) Kasprzak of East Burke and Dunedin, Fla.; four grandchildren, Patricia Marcell of Castleton, Joseph Kasprzak of East Burke, Johnna Bond of East Montpelier and Katy Mozingo of Owings, Md.; and six great-grandchildren.
