, 77, of Derby died in Newport on Tuesday, April 29, 2003. Mrs. Raymond was born in West Hartford, Connecticut, on April 2, 1926, the daughter of Stella (Davis) and stepfather Ralph Wiseman. She was an accredited medical record technician, working at North Country Hospital for 28 years. She was also a former secretary of the Vermont Medical Records Association, treasurer of special gifts of the Orleans County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, and Sunday school teacher at the United Church of Newport for 14 years. She will be greatly missed by members of her ladies poker club of which she had been a member for over 30 years. She was a voracious reader for years, and derived great pleasure from her grandchildren. She was very fond of her cat, Ling-Ling. On April 1, 1944, she married Roland Raymond, who survives her. She is also survived by her daughters: Teresa LaPorte and her husband, David, of Newport, Vanessa Vincent of Newport, and Melissa Siciliano and her husband, Dave, of Newport; by her grandchildren: Michael and his wife, Becky Gonyaw, of Westfield, Jared and his wife, Sharon Gonyaw, of Newport, Thomas Goodwin of Texas, Shane Goodwin of Newport, Jacob Macie of St. John, Virgin Islands, Linzy Vos of Newport, and Jeremy, Torrie, and Brandon Maxwell of Newport; by her great-grandsons Andrew and Mitchell Gonyaw of Newport; by her great-granddaughter, Cooper Gonyaw of Westfield; by her lifelong friend, Betty Vince, of Connecticut; and by her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Eleanor and George Taylor of Connecticut and Richard and Billie Morrill of Connecticut; and by several nieces. She was predeceased by her ten-year-old son, Michael Raymond; and by her sister Alberta Worland. A memorial service was held May 2 at the United Church of Newport with the Reverend Martha Peck and the Reverend Joy Toll-Chandler officiating. Interment will take place at Derby Center Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Pascal E. Poe III

, 61, died of cancer on April 19, 2003, at the home he designed and built for himself in East Charleston with the help of his son. Born in Golden, Colorado, Mr. Poe moved with his family to New England shortly afterward, first to Northampton, Massachusetts, then to Manchester, Connecticut. He graduated from Manchester High School, attended Amherst College, Columbia University, and the University of Hartford, where he received his bachelor's degree. He received a master's degree in English literature from the University of Connecticut. He taught at the University of Connecticut until moving to the Northeast Kingdom with his young family in 1970. He spent many years building homes in Vermont, but fell in love with Maine when he spent a summer building a residence in New Harbor. He and Patricia moved to Maine in 1980, first living in Rockport, then Appleton, and finally settling in Waldoboro. After continuing in the home building business in Maine for a time, he took a position as librarian at the Maine State Prison in 1981 and later became director of education at the prison's Bolduc Unit, a position he held until his retirement in 2001. Besides spending time with family and friends, his greatest pleasures were traveling, boating, fishing, music, good books, good food, and good conversation. Mr. Poe leaves a daughter, Annalee Poe, and her husband, Joshua Eckels, of Portland, Maine; a son, Isaac Poe, and his wife, Andrea, of East Charleston; and two former wives to whom he was still close, Patricia Poe of Rockland, Maine, and Georgeanne Davis of Tenants Harbor, Maine, as well as Georgeanne's daughter Rosamund. He also leaves his dear cousins Mary Ann Blair of Colorado and Louise Weaver of Florida, their children, and many loved friends, relations by marriage, and his large extended family at Mad Brook Farm in Vermont. He was predeceased by his parents, Frances Fleming Poe and Pascal E. Poe II, who was provost of the University of Hartford, as well as by his beloved younger brother, Roger Fleming Poe. A memorial gathering will be held in June in East Charleston. Those who wish to make donations in Mr. Poe's memory may send them to the Orleans-Essex Visiting Nurses Association and Hospice.

was born on February 13, 1906, in Kingston, Pennsylvania, the son of Robert Packer Brodhead and Fannie Loveland Brodhead, and died April 29, 2003, at Greensboro Nursing Home. Mr. Brodhead attended Wyoming Seminary, graduated from Phillips Academy in 1925, and earned his bachelor of arts at Princeton University in 1929 and his master of arts at Oxford University in 1934. He then traveled widely in Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America and as an ordinary seaman on a wind-powered ship hauling cargo to Chile via Cape Horn. He married Suzanne Williams Bassett of Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, on June 25, 1932. He worked with the Oxford Group (later Moral Rearmament) and the League of Nations from 1932 through 1936. He taught history at Governor Dummer Academy in Massachusetts, Chatham High School and Summit High School in New Jersey, Darrow School in New York state, and International College in Beirut, Lebanon. He retired from teaching in 1975 to live in his home in Dummerston. He moved to Craftsbury Common in 1998 to be with his son. He was a member of Dummerston Congregational Church and East Craftsbury Presbyterian Church. He was a lifelong member of the Audubon Society, the Holland Society, and the Princeton Crusader's Society. He loved nature, especially flowers and birds. Despite his total blindness for many years in late life, he tried to walk a mile or more every day. Walking was an opportunity for him to enjoy the sounds, feel, and smells of nature and prolong his good health. He would walk self- guided by following a string mounted on stakes and encouraged others with similar impairments to do the same. He had a wonderful memory for songs and poetry and frequently entertained his friends with recitations. He was predeceased by his wife, who died in 1993; and by his daughter Lesje Juliana Brodhead Foxon, who died in 1989. He is survived by his son-in-law Jeffrey Foxon and his two sons, John Brodhead and his wife, Gina Campoli, and Charles Brodhead Jr. and his wife, Sylvia; by nine grandchildren: Mara Black, Ainsley Brodhead, Hazen Brodhead, Luc Brodhead, Daniel Brodhead, Natasha Hanselman, Sonya Carnevale, Charles Brodhead III, and Kate Brodhead; and by three great-grandchildren: Suzanne Black, Sophi Black, and Vivian Carnevale. He was predeceased by six brothers and sisters: William Brodhead, Robert Brodhead, Mary Prosser, Lydia Nyce, Francis Brodhead, and James Brodhead. He had numerous nieces and nephews. At Mr. Brodhead's request, his remains were donated to the University of Vermont Medical School. A memorial service was conducted by the Reverend Robert John at East Craftsbury Presbyterian Church on May 3. An additional memorial service will be conducted by the Reverend Bill Wariner at Dummerston Congregational Church on Sunday, June 8, at 2 p.m. Contributions may be made in his name to Greensboro Nursing Home.

, 97, of Barton died in Barton on Sunday, May 4, 2003. Mrs. Wilkie was born in Orleans on May 4, 1906, the daughter of Wesley and Ida (Whipple) Doyle. She was a graduate of North Adams State Teachers College in North Adams, Massachusetts. She taught in the Hinsdale school system in the Central Berkshire Regional School District for 28 years. She was a member of the Massachusetts Retired Teachers Association, a member and diaconte of the First Congregational Church of Hinsdale, and a member of the church's stewardship committee. In 1950 she married Merle Wilkie, who predeceased her in October 1991. She is survived by her two granddaughters, Rebecca Twombly of New Haven, Connecticut, and Jacalyn Bennetta and her husband, Joseph, of Stamford, Connecticut; by three great-grandchildren: Chad Twombly, Judith Richardson, and Carolyn Murphy; by four great-great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn and Christopher Twombly and Taylor and Colton Murphy; and by her son-in-law Merrill Thompson of Glover. She was predeceased by her daughter Rachael Thompson on April 15 and by her brother Benjamin Doyle. A graveside service was held May 6 at Pleasantview Cemetery in Orleans with the Reverend Roger Fletcher officiating. Interment followed. , 81, of Newport died in Barton on Monday, April 28, 2003. Mr. Scott was born in Newport on June 24, 1921, the son of Newton Thomas and Eva (Lockhart) Scott. He owned and operated Bluffside Farm and was president of the Pine Grove Cemetery Association in Newport. He was also a deputy sheriff for the Orleans County Sheriff's Department and a high bailiff with Orleans County Court. On April 18, 1942, he married Jane Bixby, who survives him. He is also survived by his children Joan Curtis and her husband, Paul, of Newport and Daniel Scott and his wife, Mary Ann, of Derby; by his grandchildren: Annie Christoni and her husband, Thomas, of Derby, Paul A. Curtis II of Burlington, Kristy Scott of Derby, and Kory Scott and his wife, Abigail; by his great-grandchildren Samantha Jane and Tanner J. Gobeil; by his brother Kenneth Scott and his wife, Phyllis, of Derby; his sister-in-law Velma Scott of Swanton; by his daughter-in-law Joanne Scott of Newport; and by several nieces and nephews. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Barton, American Legion Auxiliary Barton Post No. 76, Glover Homemakers Club, and Glover Historical Society. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and canning. She also enjoyed camping, gardening, reading, and history. She married Roger Tatro, who predeceased her in 1957. She then married Sisto Lombardi on January 31, 1970, who predeceased her in May 2000. She is survived by her daughters: Cheryl Gates of Hardwick, Jo-ann Dimick and her husband, Gary, of East Hardwick, and Kathleen Chamberlin and her husband, Terry, of Barton; by her brothers: Thomas Gaboriault of East Hartford, Connecticut, Alcide Gaboriault of Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, George Gaboriault of Gilbert, Arizona, and Philip Gaboriault of Nashua, New Hampshire; by her sisters: Jeannette Heney of East Hartford, Zilda Metcalf of Underhill, and Georgette Carlow of Ellington, Connecticut; by 11 grandchildren; by 13 great-grandchildren; and by several nieces and nephews. , 92, of Island Pond died in Newport on Sunday, April 27, 2003. Mrs. Bellis was born in Brighton, Massachusetts, on January 1, 1911, the daughter of William and Christy Ann MacDonald. She was a graduate of Brighton High School. She was a member of American Legion Island Pond Post No. 80 Auxiliary and the medical board of Northern Counties Health Center in Island Pond. She enjoyed sewing, painting oil landscapes, and doing arts and crafts. On November 27, 1930, she married Harold J. Bellis Sr., who predeceased her on May 30, 1980. She is survived by her son Neal R. Bellis and his wife, Christine, of Watertown, Massachusetts; by eight grandchildren; by four great-grandchildren; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Harold Bellis Jr. in 1985; and by her brothers and sisters: Angus MacDonald, Andrew MacDonald, John MacDonald, Mary Valchuis, Bill MacDonald, Dan MacDonald, Bessie Smith, and Jessie MacDonald. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 30 at St. James Catholic Church with the Reverend Stephen Nichols officiating. , 63, of Holland, Vermont, died in Newport on Wednesday, April 30, 2003. Mrs. Daggett was born in Island Pond on July 6, 1939, the daughter of Thomas and Hazel (Chase) Crowe. She was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses, and most enjoyed speaking and preaching about God's kingdom. Her pride and joy was her family, and her special delight was her two grandchildren. On April 11, 1958, she married Gordon Daggett, who survives her. She is also survived by her son Steven Daggett and his wife, Jenny, of Holland; by her grandchildren Chandler and Chelsea; by her brothers Gary Crowe of Island Pond and Bradley Crowe of Newport; by her sisters Mary Twofoot of Derby, and Sandra Norris of Newport; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held May 4 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Newport with Bruce Cozzins of Magog, Quebec, officiating.

, son of Joseph Barry and Ruth (Woodward) Barry of Derby, died at his home on Saturday, May 3, 2003, following a short illness. Mr. Barry was born on March 4, 1938, in Arlington, Massachusetts. On March 3, 1962, he married Merrilyn Williams, with whom he shared his life for 41 years. He worked for Northeast Kingdom Mental Health and retired in 1997 to a life of fishing and enjoyment of the outdoors and his family. He loved fishing, hunting, and the outdoors in general. He enjoyed his boat on Lake Memphremagog and fishing off the shores of Lake Seymour with his buddies. He always looked forward to and enjoyed duck hunting with his sons and grandson. Family was important to him. He enjoyed being a husband, father, and grandfather and was a regular at his grandchildren's activities. He loved music of all types and shared this love for music with his family and friends. He also enjoyed spending time with his wife, Merrilyn, at various community activities and events. His love for the holidays was always evident. He took a great deal of pride and joy in welcoming his friends and family to his home during the holidays, especially Christmas. He loved to decorate his home and share many family traditions. The neighborhood children, both young and old, were always delighted with his decorations at both Christmas and Halloween. A special tradition he enjoyed was his yearly Christmas shopping trip with his daughter Kim. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching the New York Giants and the Boston Red Sox. He was also a regular on the weekend breakfast tour at the East Side Restaurant with his wife and their close friends Pat and Cecil Rhodes. He is survived by his wife, Merrilyn (Williams) Barry; by his daughter Kimberly and her husband, Keith Flynn, and their children Courtney and Adam; by his son Kyle Barry and his wife, Gail, and their children: Jessica, Jeremy, and Krista; by his son Kord Barry and his wife, Mary, and their son Gregory; and by his brother Ronald Barry and his wife, Joan, and their sons Raymond and Craig and their families. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Kathryn Guyette and her husband, Woodie; by nephews Douglas and Jeffrey and their families; by his sister-in-law Jackie Calabrese and her husband, Sal; and by nephews Richard and Dominick and nieces Christine and Julie and their families. He was predeceased by his parents; by his sister and brother-in-law Ruth and Bradley Carle; by his brother Robert Barry; and by his father and mother-in-law, "Molly" and Evelyn Williams. , 84, a resident of Stanton, Delaware, for over 50 years, died Friday, May 2 , 2003, at Brandywine Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Delaware. She was born in Newport Center on April 19, 1919. Mrs. St. Amand was a homemaker and worked in food service for 15 years for the DuPont Chemical Company Louviers site in Wilmington until retiring in 1987. She was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Wilmington and was active in the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and square dancing. They were members of the Circle Four and XTen's. She was predeceased by her grandson Scott St. Amand. Survivors include her husband, Gerard R. St. Amand, with whom she would have celebrated their sixty-first wedding anniversary on May 11; by her son Richard G. St. Amand of Elkton, Maryland; by her daughter Doria B. Grimes of Annandale, Virginia; by her son George O. On November 27, 1939, she married Raymond J. Lucas, who predeceased her on May 27, 1986. She is survived by her children: Raymond C. On July 27, 1946, she married Harvey Pelletier, who predeceased her on March 1, 2003. She is survived by her children: Jocellyn "John" Pelletier and his wife, Nancy, of North Troy, Micheline LaFleur and her husband, Peter, of Newport, Alain Pelletier of Waverly, New York, and Carol Fournier and her husband, James, of Newport; by her grandchildren: Lisa, Vicki, Alan, Yvon, Michael, and Amber; by her brothers: Alphonse, Leonce, Jean Baptiste, and Albini Aubin, all of Quebec; and by her sisters: Lucia Coderre, Marguette Nadeau, Juilette Hebert, Leona L'etoile, and Alice Dulmaine, all of Quebec. of Kissimmee, Florida, died at her home on Saturday, May 3, 2003. Born August 13, 1932, in Lawrence, Massachusetts, Mrs. Wilkinson was the eldest daughter of Thomas F. Kavanagh and Alice (Grandpre) Kavanagh. She was raised for a time in Westmore. She moved to the central Florida area in 1993 from Salem, New Hampshire. She was a demonstration representative for Publix in Kissimmee for ten years. She attended Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Kissimmee. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Ronald Wilkinson, of Kissimmee; by sons John Hobson of Kissimmee and Tim Wilkinson of Auburn, New Hampshire; by daughters Donna Wilkinson of Palm Bay, Florida, and Kate Wilkinson of North Andover, Massachusetts; by sisters: Helen Prunier of Buzzard's Bay, Massachusetts, Peg Branchaud of Lawrence, Massachusetts, and Alice Yelle of Methuen, Massachusetts; and by 12 grandchildren. Funeral services were held May 12 at Grissom Funeral Home in Kissimmee with Father Robert Mitchell of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church officiating. Interment will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in Westmore at the end of May.

, 80, a longtime resident of Wilmington, Massachusetts, and Echo Lake in East Charleston, died April 6, 2003, after an illness. Born on August 2, 1922, in Medford, Massachusetts, Mr. Crosson was the son of the late Michael F. and Anna (Shay) Crosson. He loved Vermont and spent many hours driving the back roads looking for wildlife. Most of all he enjoyed his friends on Echo Lake and throughout the Northeast Kingdom. A World War II veteran, he served in the United States Army in northern Africa and southern France. He received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Victory Medal. Prior to his retirement he was employed as a machinist for the Avco Defense Systems (Textron) in Wilmington for over 25 years. After his retirement he was employed by the Wilmington school department working in the special education department and as a substitute teacher for Shawsheen Technical High School. He was the beloved husband of the late Juliette Rolande (Martineau) Crosson and is survived by his children: Linda A. Manzi and her husband, Michael, of Methuen, Massachusetts, Patrica S. Barrett and her husband, David, of Leominster, Massachusetts, Nancy T. Gruber and her husband, Yves, of Salem, New Hampshire, and John F. Crosson II of Haverhill, Massachusetts; by eight grandchildren; and by two great-grandchildren. Interment was at Wildwood Center in Wilmington.

, 88, of Brownington died in Newport on Monday, May 19, 2003. Mr. Robillard was born in Canada on October 4, 1914, the son of Albert and Clara (Choiniere) Robillard. He farmed for many years, retiring in 1990. He enjoyed working with wood and making crafts. On June 4, 1949, he married Gloria Gosselin, who survives him. He is also survived by his children Rita Driver of West Charleston and Paul Robillard and his wife, Darlene, of Brownington; by his brother Florian Robillard of Brownington; by eight grandchildren; and by four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son-in-law Marc Driver in 1993; and by his sisters: Claudia Johnson, Flora Lamarche, and Rolande Morreau. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 21, at 11 a.m. at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Orleans with the Reverend Daniel Rupp officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. , 72, of Palmer, Massachusetts, died May 2, 2003, at home. Born in Palmer, on September 9, 1930, Mr. Riel was the son of the late Julius and Lina (Tougas) Riel. He was a lifelong resident of Palmer and a graduate of its high school. He served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He had a strong religious faith and was a communicant of St. Thomas Church in Palmer. During his working career, he spent 47 years at Jarvis East as a machinist before retiring in 1995. An avid sportsman, he played semiprofessional baseball and football. He also coached a variety of youth football and baseball teams along with adult softball. He was an avid pitch player and most recently played on the Thursday night league at Amvets. Above all he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will also be remembered by his nine grandchildren to whom he was lovingly referred to as "Pepe;" by his great-grandson; and by his many nieces and nephews. , 81, of Laurel, Delaware, died Friday, May 9, 2003, in his home. Mr. Prue was born October 12, 1921, in Coventry, son of the late Ozias Earl and Pear Barry Prue. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He was a dairy farmer in his younger years. Later he was a truck driver and delivered missiles for the government. His logging business brought him to Delmarva, Delaware, in the late 1970s. Upon retiring, he opened a hardware store at Bargain Bill's Flea Market where he was well-known as the "handle man." He was a gifted storyteller and was loved by many children and adults who stopped in his store. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a daughter, Sally Ann Prue; by a son, James Barry Prue; and by a sister, Shirley Prue. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dora Benway Prue; by seven sons: Jerry Wayne Prue of Newport, Larry Ray Prue of Kenbridge, Virginia, Sheridan Wayne Prue Jr. of Preston, Maryland, Russell Ozias Prue of Kenbridge, Ira Allen Prue of Preston, Nathan Hugh Prue of Laurel, and Neal Angus Prue of Sharptown, Maryland; by four daughters: Terry Lou Wright of Laurel, Holly Lee Wilson of Boydton, Virginia, Susan Marie Osborn of Victoria, Virginia, and Myla Jean Hubbard of Laurel; by two brothers, George and Reginal Prue; by 31 grandchildren; and by many nieces and nephews. , 88, of Fountain, Colorado, died peacefully on Thursday, May 15, 2003. Mr. Powers was born March 31, 1915, in Brownington, the son of the late Philo and Rilla (Hanson) Powers. He grew up on a dairy farm in Brownington and often talked about making maple syrup on the family farm all by himself, using a horse and sleigh to transport the sap to the sugarhouse. His father was road commissioner in Brownington for 24 years, and he often spoke about the workhorses they had. He retired from Bulova Watch Company in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1977. He was a boiler room operator for over 20 years and often spoke of the Salem and Dexter Street plants. He enjoyed traveling, listening to music, especially old Lawrence Welk shows, and having good conversation. He was a wonderful, hard-working father and will be greatly missed by his loved ones. He was predeceased by his sisters Pheobe Hardie and Leona Turcotte. He leaves three children: Joyce L. House and her husband, Kirk, of Bath, New York, David C. Powers of Barrington, Rhode Island, and Avis Vencill and her husband, Ray, of Fountain; and three grandchildren: Joshua and Eric House and Nathan Thornley. No viewing or services are planned. There will be a private ceremony with immediate family members. His remains will be buried in Highland Memorial Park in Johnston, Rhode Island.

, 48, of Orleans, beloved husband of Peggy Leal, died peacefully May 13, 2003, at his home with his family at his side. Mr. Leal was born on December 13, 1954, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, a son of Frank and Alice (Snell) Leal Sr. He drove cross-country for Peterson's Transportation in Phoenix, Arizona. He served in the United States Air Force, from which he was honorably discharged. On November 9, 1989, he married Peggy Gracely, who survives him. He enjoyed driving cross-country road trips with his grandchildren and his dog, Rocky, watching stock car races, and playing horseshoes. Besides his wife, he is survived by his children Phronsie Leal of Barton and Justine Leal of Orleans; by grandchildren: Kyrsten, Hayley, Summer, Angelica, Althea, Dustin, Ciera, and Alexis; by stepsons Toni and Benji Gracely of South Carolina; by stepgrandchildren Megan and Mitchell Gracely; by mother-in-law, Mary Gracely, of South Carolina; by son-in-law Charles Merlini of Orleans; by several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and by his best friends, Shorty Croteau, Kevin Temple, Michael Comstock, and Erik Fichtner. He was predeceased by his parents; by a brother, Frank Leal Jr.; and by a sister, Barbara Clancy. A memorial service was held May 19 at Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Newport with the Reverend Edwin Maceachearn officiating. , 74, of South Burlington died Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at the home of her daughter, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Lavallee was born in Roxton Falls, Quebec, on April 14, 1929, the daughter of the late Noel and Marie-Louise (Beaudry) Favreau. Following her marriage to Gilbert U. Lavallee on August 26, 1950, she moved to the United States. She resided in Newport until moving to the Burlington area in 1984. Her husband predeceased her on November 17, 1994. She was a self-employed seamstress for many years. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish in Winooski. She enjoyed knitting and sewing and was always available for her family and friends. She is survived by her five daughters: Monique Gosselin and her husband, Paul, of Merrimack, New Hampshire, Josie Smith and her husband, Michael, of Brunswick, Georgia, Nicole Lathey and her husband, Michael, of Rutland, Sylvie Seguin and her husband, Dennis, of Lebanon, New Hampshire, and Louise McCormick and her husband, Rodney, of Essex Junction; by 13 grandchildren; by her brother and sisters: Bernard Favreau of Mt. St. Hilaire, Quebec, Angeline Dupont, Marielle Favreau, and Lise Morin, all of Granby, Quebec, and Celine Beauchemin of Iberville, Quebec; and by nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Paul and Roland Favreau. Mrs. Gigliotti was born in Newport on October 30, 1922, the daughter of Archibald Calvin and Beulah Irene (Jenkins) Brown. She received an associate's degree in business administration from Bay Path College in Long Meadow, Massachusetts. On October 20, 1942, she married Fiorino John Gigliotti, who predeceased her in August 1981, at which time she moved back to this area from Connecticut. She enjoyed painting, doing crafts, and spending time with her grandchildren. , 58, of Albany died Thursday, May 15, 2003, at North Country Hospital in Newport. Mr. Davis was born in Burlington on February 28, 1945, the son of Doctor Everett and Isabelle (Farrar) Davis. He was a graduate of Newport High School in 1963 and of the University of Vermont in 1968 with a bachelor's degree in political science. Upon graduation from college he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served with the 1st Air Cavalry Division in Vietnam. He received an honorable discharge and was awarded the following medals: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Army Commendation Medal, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, two Airman's Medals (each requiring 25 jumps into combat), three Presidential Unit Citations, Vietnam Service Medal, Expert M-14 Rifleman Badge, two Overseas Bars, and the National Defense Service Medal. He married Jane Chouinard in Newport on December 21, 1968. Upon return from service in 1970, he became employed as an inspector of the U.S. Customs Service, serving in North Troy, Beebe Plain, and Derby Line. They made their home in Newport until they built their log home on Lake Hosmer in Albany in 1980. He retired from the U.S. Customs Service in March 2000 after 32 years of service. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Alfred Pepin Post No. 798 in Newport and the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks Newport Lodge No. 2155. He had an early interest in music, becoming an accomplished drummer and playing in bands professionally from sixth grade through his early years. He had a strong love of the Davis family farm and enjoyed many special times at Lake Hosmer Farm in Albany and at Lake Hosmer where he eventually built his home. He leaves his wife of over 34 years, Jane Davis, of Albany; his parents, Dr. Everett and Isabelle Davis of Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton; a daughter, Jessica Trevits, and her husband, Adam, of North Hero; and a son, Jonathan, and his friend, Lindsay Porter, of Cape Cod, Massachusetts; two brothers, Richard Davis and Blaine Davis and his wife, Mary, all of Albany; two nephews, Jared and Ethan Davis; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He also leaves his mother-in-law, Aldea Chouinard Patenaude, of Derby Line and her extended family. He was awaiting the birth of his first grandchildren, due in the near future. A memorial service will be held at his Lake Hosmer home at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, with the Reverend Arnold M. Brown of Craftsbury officiating. There will be no calling hours, and the graveside service in Albany Village Cemetery will be private and at the convenience of the family. , 87, of Derby Line died in Lebanon, New Hampshire, on Thursday, May 15, 2003. Mr. Beadle was born on May 9, 1916, in Newport Center, the son of George H. and Mattie O. (Meacham) Beadle. He grew up in Newport Center and graduated from Newport Center High School in 1934, where he was class valedictorian. He attended the University of Vermont, graduating in 1938 from the college of agriculture. While there he was a saxophonist in the UVM band and a pitcher for the varsity baseball team. In fact his enthusiasm for baseball led him to become a lifelong Red Sox fan. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the anti-aircraft division achieving the rank of corporal. He was part of the European invasion force landing in Normandy on D-day plus six, and was in Czechoslovakia when the war ended. Following his return to this country, he worked for United Farmers testing milk for various farmers in northern Vermont. On June 29, 1946, he married Alice Whitney, a native of Springfield. He then began working for the U.S. Soil Conservation Service until his retirement in 1975. He came to know most of the farmers in Orleans and Essex counties during his career trying to help them to improve their farms and land. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, trapping, and wood cutting. Other hobbies included gardening and playing the harmonica. In this latter activity he often entertained at local retirement homes and delighted in surprising friends and relatives with phone calls on their birthdays playing a rendition of "Happy Birthday" on his harmonica. He was a 40-year member of American Legion Newport Post No. 21 and a member of the Masonic Order Troy Union Lodge No. 16 F&AM. He is survived by his wife, Alice; by his son Keith and his wife, Diane, of Derby Line; by his daughter Janice Fournier of North Troy; by his grandson Gregory; and by his granddaughter Jessica Dutter and her husband, Michael. He was predeceased by his daughter Carol in May 1968; by two brothers, Arland and Marvin; and by three sisters: Velma Cobb, Maida Ware, and Marion Lockhart. Funeral services were held May 19 with the Reverend Christine Osowski officiating. Interment follow at Newport Center Cemetery with full military honors. Mrs. Allen was born January 27, 1930, in Glover, the daughter of the late Charles and Altena (Wing) Kelton. She attended Glover and Hardwick public schools. On October 10, 1953, she married Olin Robert Allen in Hardwick. She had been a cook for the Hardwick Senior Meals, and later she was an Avon sales representative. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Hardwick. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, and caring for her family. Survivors include her husband, Olin, of Hardwick; five sons: Steve Baker of Barre, Donald, Rodney, and Douglas Allen of Hardwick, and Bradley Allen of East Montpelier; two daughters, Jolene Maxham of Bethel and Shari Allen of Hardwick; eight grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. , 82, of Bloomfield, Connecticut, beloved husband of Doris (Hansen) Ahrens, died Saturday, May 10, 2003 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut. Born in Bloomfield, son of the late Benjamin and Myrtle (Perham) Ahrens, Mr. Ahrens was a lifelong resident. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was employed as an oil burner service technician for 38 years, retiring in 1983 from Mercury Oil Company. After his retirement he worked part-time at Mark's Auto Parts in East Granby, Connecticut. A former member of the Bloomfield Volunteer Fire Department, he was an avid gardener and fisherman and a lover of animals, all creatures great and small. Besides his wife, he leaves three sons and two daughters-in-law: Richard and Debbie Ahrens of Windsor, Connecticut, Scott and Debbie Ahrens of Island Pond, and Thomas Ahrens of Bloomfield; two daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene and John Portaluppi, Lori and Mark Alix, all of Granby; a daughter-in-law, Jacintha Ahrens, of Vermont; 12 grandchildren: Darcy Noble, Elizabeth Portaluppi, Denver Ahrens, Rick Ahrens, Ryan Ahrens, Dan Ahrens, Melanie Tongren, Greg Alix, Brooke Alix, Amber Moore, Katie Ahrens, and Lisa Brokow; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends. She was the eldest daughter of Thomas F. and Alice (Grandpre) Kavanagh, and the sister of the late Thomas E. Kavanagh of Methuen, Massachusetts. She moved to the central Florida area in 1993 from Salem, New Hampshire. She was a demonstration representative for Publix Supermarket in Kissimmee for ten years. She attended Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Kissimmee. She was a summer resident at Willoughby Lake. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Ronald Wilkinson, of Kissimmee; by her sons John Hobson of Kissimmee and Tim Wilkinson of Auburn, New Hampshire; by her daughters Donna Wilkinson of Palm Bay, Florida, and Kate Wilkinson of North Andover, Massachusetts; by her sisters: Helen Prunier of Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts, Peg Branchaud of Lawrence, Massachusetts, and Alice Yelle of Methuen; and by 12 grandchildren. Mr. Robitaille was born in Lowell on August 24, 1913, the son of Jake and Josephine (Robdoux) Robtoy. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He worked in overhaul and repair at Hamilton Standard Aircraft, retiring in August 1978. In March 1983 he married Bertha Rouillard, who predeceased him in January 2002. He is survived by his stepdaughter Susan Beckwith of Sacramento, California; by his brother Howard Robtoy of Broadbrook, Connecticut, and Port Orange, Florida; by his sisters Ida Besaw and Dora Dawson, both of Agawam, Massachusetts; and by two grandchildren. She went to school in Massachusetts and graduated with a degree from Fisher College. At the time of her retirement she was executive secretary to the owner of Massa Products. She and her companion, Bill, fell in love with Vermont and after a short stay in Hardwick, moved to Derby in 2000. She enjoyed gardening and growing flowers and derived great pleasure from her two dogs. She was a generous and loving person. She is survived by her loving companion of 22 years, Bill Myers, of Derby; by her daughters Laurie Sutherland of New Hampshire and Kim Sutherland and her husband, Hank Maurer, of Scotts Valley, California; by her brothers Bob Wikstrom and his wife, Nita, of Louisiana and Charles Wikstrom and his wife, Sandra, of Massachusetts; by her sister Ruth Smith and her husband, Frank, of Massachusetts; and by several nieces and nephews. , 73, of Newport Center died in Newport on Wednesday, May 21, 2003. Mr. Coe was born in New Britain, Connecticut, on October 10, 1929, the son of Walter and Helen (Yung) Coe. He worked at a couple small shops before going to work for Pratt & Whitney for 15 years. He moved to Vermont in 1970 and worked for Ethan Allen for a few years, retiring from House of Troy. He loved fishing and taught his children and grandchildren. As spring approached he was planning his vegetable garden from which he derived great pleasure. The family also enjoyed several seasons of camping. He enjoyed driving his car and going for rides. He was very family oriented and enjoyed babysitting for the young children. On February 10, 1951, he married Alice Stewart, who survives him. He is also survived by his children: Janice Deslandes and her husband, Lionel, of Orleans, Robert Coe and his wife, Chyrl, of North Troy, and Garry Coe and his wife, Penny, of Newport Center; by his grandchildren: Heather and Paul Hodge of Orleans, Christina Deslandes of Orleans, Jessica Coe of Newport Center, and Jon and Chris Coe of Newport: and by his great-grandchildren Cody and Kiara Hodge of Orleans. He worked for H.P Hood & Sons for most of his life and moved from Fitchburg, Massachusetts, to St. Johnsbury in 1960, where he was plant manager until his retirement in 1980. He then moved to Oak Island, North Carolina, where he was a member of the Oak Island Presbyterian Church, the Masonic Lodge F&AM Chapter No. 758, and the Eastern Star No. 371. He enjoyed gardening, reading about the Civil War, and doing crossword puzzles. He moved to Derby in June 1999 to be close to his family, and he worked for his daughter and son-in-law Sue and Howard Birchard at the Derby Village Store until 2000. On November 9, 1939, he married Kathleen Wallace, who predeceased him in March 1995. He is survived by his children: Wallace Blanchard and his wife, Genevieve Jervey, of Flagstaff, Arizona, Sally Blanchard of Kensington, Connecticut, Mary Pollock and her husband, Michael, of Cypress, California, and Susan Birchard and her husband, Howard, of Derby; by his brothers Harry Blanchard of Danville and James Blanchard of Wheaton, Illinois; by five grandchildren; by seven great-grandchildren; and by nieces and nephews. , 72, who was former co-owner with her beloved Walter "Nip" Barnard of Nip's Drive Inn in Derby for 35 years and Barnard's Carpet Barn in Delray Beach, Florida, for ten years, died March 16, 2003. Mrs. Barnard was born in Waterloo, Quebec, daughter of the late George and Gladys Streeter. She attended Newport grade school and middle school and Stanstead Business College. After attaining the title of Miss Newport in 1949 she was introduced to Walter "Nippy" Barnard, and on June 16, 1951, they were married. The couple ran Nip's together and in 1969 moved to Delray Beach for the winters, traveling back to the Newport area every year. In 1983 they sold Nip's and in 1984 started Barnard's Carpet Barn in Delray Beach. They retired in 1987 and sold their business to Cheryl Barnard McCall. After retirement the couple traveled the U.S. and Canada and all roads led back to Newport each summer where residents would see them at Memphremagog Park or on the porch at Nip's having a hot dog. Her husband died in 1999, but Mrs. Barnard still trekked back to Newport for two more years. She was sick last year and did not get up North but was planning to come home once again in June. She is survived by three children: Brian Barnard and his wife, Ellie, of Tallahassee, Florida, Cheryl Barnard McCall and her husband, Edward, of Delray Beach, and Craig Barnard of Boca Raton, Florida; by four grandchildren: Brian Jr. and Christopher of Tallahassee, Morgan McCall of Delray Beach, and Andrew McCall of Boca Raton.
