, 79, of Derby Line died peacefully with her family in Newport on February 25, 2003. Mrs. Darby was born on October 7, 1923, in Saranac, New York, the daughter of Christina White Napper and Charles Napper. She attended Green Mountain College and graduated from American University in 1943. She taught at Derby Academy from 1943 to 1946. On September 15, 1945, she married Robert Darby, who she met at Green Mountain College. From 1960 until 1981 she taught at Newport High School, Derby Academy, and North Country Union High School. She served on the Derby School Board and the committee to develop a union school. She was Vermont Teacher of the Year in 1981. One of her greatest joys was seeing students accomplish goals they thought were impossible. After retirement she acted as guardian ad litum for several years. She served on the Derby Green Nursing Home board and the Area Agency on Aging, and she was an active member of Stanstead South United Church. She served as secretary of congregation, and president of Canusa. She is survived by her devoted husband, Robert, of 57 years. She is also survived by her three daughters: Tina Routhier and her husband, Ray, of Derby Line, Ruth Gray and her husband, Keith, of Derby, and Sue Kearney and her husband, Peter, of Cape Coral, Florida; by the following grandchildren: Kristi Hudson and her husband, Dan, Amy Stimets and her husband, Jon, Melissa and Cy Nelson, Erica and Trevor Gray, Kyle and Meghan Hildebrand, and Alison and Caitlan Kearney; and by great-grandchildren Emily and Nathan Hudson. She is also survived by her brother Charles Napper of Saranac; by her sister Candace Marshall of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; and by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Napper, in 1969.

, 79, of North Troy died peacefully March 1, 2003, in Newport surrounded by his family. Mr. Pelletier was born June 8, 1923, in Drummondville, Quebec, a son of Leodore and Rose Alma (Dourbeau) Pelletier. On July 27, 1946, he married Lucienne Aubin, who survives him. He was a self-employed dairy farmer in North Troy for many years. He also owned a trucking business that transported hay and sawdust until he retired. He held memberships with St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in North Troy and the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks of Derby. He is survived by his wife, Lucienne Pelletier, of North Troy; by the following children: Jocellyn "John" Pelletier and his wife, Nancy, of North Troy, Micheline LaFleur and her husband, Peter, of Newport, Alain Pelletier of Waverly, New York, and Carol Fournier and her husband, James, of Derby; by six grandchildren: Lisa, Vicki, Yvon, Michael, Alan, and Amber; by the following brothers and sisters: Marcel Pelletier and his wife, Diane, of Three Rivers, Quebec, Gille Pelletier and his wife, Lise, of Montréal, Quebec, Guy Pelletier and his wife, Pauline, of Richmond, Quebec, Sister Claire Pelletier of St. Hyaicti, Quebec, and Sister Yoland Pelletier of Nicolette, Quebec. He was predeceased by a sister, Beth Pelletier. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date in the spring. , 85, of Derby Line died in Newport on Tuesday, February 25, 2003. Mrs. Audet was born in Fitch Bay, Quebec, on November 22, 1917, the daughter of Ivers and Minnie (Martin) Whipple. She was a 1940 graduate of Bugbee Business College in Stanstead, Quebec. She worked as a secretary at Union Butterfields for 37 years, retiring in 1976. On August 7, 1948, she married Gardiner Audet, who predeceased her. She is survived by her sister Rachael Pellerin of Rock Island, Quebec; and by her nieces and nephews: Linda, Brenda, Shirley, Richard, Russell, Nancy, Diane, and Joyce. She was predeceased by her brothers: Norman, John "Arnold," and Richard; and by her sister Glenys Miller. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on March 1 at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Derby Line with the Reverend Larry Ridgeley officiating. , 65, of Worcester died Saturday, March 1, 2003. Born in Barton on March 17, 1937, Mrs. Tetreault was the daughter of Merrill and Alice (Nault) Larocque. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Tetreault, of Worcester; and by their four children: Donna Houghton and her husband, Greg, of Berlin, Deborah Tetreault of Middlebury, Andrew Tetreault of Montpelier, and James Tetreault and his wife, Beth, of Barre. She had two granddaughters and three grandsons. She is also survived by her sister Gloria Babcock; by her five brothers: Wayne, Roger, Kenneth, Francis, and Carroll Larocque and their spouses; and by numerous nieces and nephews. A private memorial service for the family is planned. , 79, of Albany died Saturday, March 8, 2003, at North Country Hospital in Newport following a long illness, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Tremblay was born in Edelemans, Pennsylvania, on March 31, 1923, the daughter of Simon and Elsie (Hineline) Peters. She met Ted Tremblay in Pennsylvania while he was in the U.S. Army. They married in 1942, and she moved to Vermont to live with his family while he served his country in World War II. They made their home together in Albany after his return from the service. She was a communicant of St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in East Albany and a member of Veterans of Foreign War Post No. 798 Ladies Auxiliary in Newport. She loved her pets, and enjoyed gardening, ceramics, and crafts. She leaves her husband, Theodore P. Tremblay, of Albany; a son, Theodore H. Tremblay, and his friend and Mrs. Tremblay's caregiver, Anita Brown, of Irasburg; a daughter, Theresa Racine, and her husband, Jacques, of Lunenburg; seven grandchildren: Lisa Smith and her husband, Richard, of Gilman, Leon Racine and his wife, Sharon, of Sacramento, California, Linda Marsh and her husband, Mark, of Charleston, and Shannon Elliot and her husband, Jessie, of Newport, Velma Tremblay, Camilla Tremblay, and Dorothy Jean Tremblay, all of West Warwick, Rhode Island. ; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Velma Bieber, and her husband, Robert, of Bath, Pennsylvania. She was predeceased by 16 brothers and sisters. A Funeral Mass was celebrated March 11 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Craftsbury with Father Dan Rupp officiating. , 75, of Coventry died at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, March 4, 2003. Mr. Smith was born in Coventry on May 22, 1927, the son of Edson and Glenda (Woodburn) Smith. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He earned an associate degree from the College of Burdett Business in Boston, Massachusetts, and spent 37 years working as a rail terminal supervisor for Canadian Pacific Railroad. He was a member of American Legion Newport Post No. 21, the National Rifle Association, and Coventry Congregational Church. He loved going to his camp "GEMS" in Coventry Gore, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and photographing wildlife. He loved his grandchildren and taking pictures of them, and always remembered all birthdays of his family. He is survived by his children: Michael Smith and his wife, Ruth, of Birmingham, Alabama, Scott Smith and his friend, Sherril, of Coventry, and Glenda Kerr and her husband, Gary, of Newport Center; by his grandchildren: Christopher Smith, Rebecca Smith, Hannah Smith, Abigail Smith, Heather Allen, Alyssa Coburn, Jason Kerr, Celina McMichael, and Tracy Kerr; by his great-grandchildren Bethany Allen and Matthew Allen; by his sisters: Marion McInnis and her husband, Donald, of Coventry, Arvilla Houston and her husband, Jack, of Orleans, and Doris Pagliaroni of Walwick, New Jersey; by a sister-in-law, Pauline Smith, of Jolla, California; and by several nieces and nephews. , 52, of West Charleston died suddenly in West Charleston on Wednesday, March 5, 2003. Mr. Ahrens was born in Hartford, Connecticut, on April 13, 1950, the son of Bendix and Doris (Hansen) Ahrens. He worked as a carpenter his whole life. He enjoyed fishing, stock car racing, and NASCAR. On September 5, 1983, he married Jacinta O'Brien, who survives him. , 100, of Newport died in Newport on Friday, March 7, 2003. Mrs. Hamilton was born in Graniteville, Quebec, on July 6, 1902, the daughter of Roy M. and Grace (Reynolds) Reed. She attended model school in Beebe, Quebec, and worked at Butterfield's in Derby Line for seven years before marrying Robert J. Hamilton on June 30, 1924. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and sewing. She was a resident of Michaud Manor in Derby Line from 1989 until 1998 when she became a resident of Newport Health Care Center due to her failing health. She is survived by her half-brother Philip J. Reed and his wife, Marjorie, of Barre; by her half-sister Enid Elliott of Ogden, Quebec; by her sister-in-law Mae Bickford Reed of Newport; and by several nieces, nephews, and their families. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert, in 1960; and by her brothers: Howard, Lyell, and Willard Reed. A graveside service will take place in June at Mountainview Cemetery in Claremont, New Hampshire.

, 82, of Newport died peacefully March 15, 2003, in Newport following a brief illness. Mrs. Miller was born January 27, 1921, in Ware, Massachusetts, a daughter of Charles and Edna (Hurlin) Lindsey. She was educated in the Ware schools and graduated from Ware High School in 1938. She attended what is now the University of Massachusetts, graduating in June 1942 with a bachelor of science in home economics. She taught at North Troy High School for two years and at Woodstock High School in Woodstock, Connecticut, for one year. On July 14, 1945, she married Ralph L. Miller of North Troy, who predeceased her in November 1980. They made their home in North Troy for nearly 33 years. She was an active member of the United Church of Christ in North Troy. She assisted in her husband's insurance office until the business was sold in 1973. She belonged to other organizations and was a trustee and part-time librarian at Rand Memorial Library there. In March 1978 they moved to Newport where they joined the United Church of Newport. She was an active member of the Women's Society, now the Friendship Circle. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Loran D. Lindsey, of Indianapolis, Indiana; by a nephew, Dr. Robert D. Lindsey, and his wife, Elizabeth, of Lafayette, Indiana; by a niece, Pamela Ruster, and her husband, James, of Greenwood, Indiana; by a cousin, Frances Newton, of Nokomis, Florida; and by four grand-nieces. She was predeceased by a brother, Roger H. Lindsey, in March 2002. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, at the United Church of Newport with the Reverend Martha Peck officiating. , 90, of Morrisville, Orleans, and Hollywood, Florida, died on March 15, 2003, in St. Johnsbury. Mr. Guyette was a devoted husband for 53 years, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was born on January 1, 1913, in Morrisville, the son of Charles and Bertha (Deyette) Guyette. On September 19, 1936, he married Elizabeth R. (Bousquet) Guyette in Lowell. She predeceased him on February 27, 1989. Surviving are four children: Gleason Guyette Jr. and his wife, Charlotte, of Banning, California, Louise Gunther and her spouse, Richard, of Hopewell Junction, New York, Glenn Guyette and his wife, Janice, of Lisbon, New Hampshire, and Laura Fontaine and her spouse, Fernand, of Newport; 12 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Two sisters and four brothers predeceased him. Mr. Guyette graduated from Peoples Academy in Morrisville. He operated his own farm in Irasburg for many years. He was an employee of Ethan Allan Manufacturing in Orleans, and he managed the nursery for the city of Hollywood, where he retired in 1978. He enjoyed his cottage on Lake Parker and fishing and hunting with his family and friends. , 79, of Derby died at his daughter's house in Peacham on Tuesday, March 11, 2003. Mr. Gaylor was born in Newport on August 24, 1923, the son of Harry E. and Pauline B. (Villeneuve) Gaylor. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II, earning an Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Service Ribbon with four Bronze Service Stars, a Philippines Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star, and Good Conduct and Victory Medals. He resided in Springfield, Massachusetts, for 33 years while working as a painter and paper hanger for Berger Painting Company in Holyoke, Massachusetts. He was a member of the Local 257 Painters and Allied Trade in Springfield for 30 years, a charter member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Newport Post No. 798, a member of American Legion Newport Post No. 21, and a charter member of Eagles Newport Post No. 4329. On September 24, 1945, he married Grace E. Broome. He is survived by his children: Pauline Loiselle of Springfield, Jacqueline Gold and her husband, Vernon, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Bernard Gaylor and his wife, Anne, of Fort Lauderdale, Donna Worth of Newport, Theodore H. , 78, of Townsend, Massachusetts, died unexpectedly Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at her home. Mrs. Townsend was the widow of Henry F. Fogarty, who died September 9, 1992. She was born in Greenfield, Massachusetts, on March 19, 1924, a daughter of William and Christina (Thayer) Fogarty, and has resided in Townsend for almost 60 years. For many years, she and her husband summered in Glover. For over 40 years, she worked as an obstetrics nurse at Burbank Hospital in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, retiring in 1989. Following her retirement, she worked in the office of Dr. Edward M. Sprague in Townsend for several years. She was a graduate of Greenfield High School in Massachusetts, where she played on the championship basketball team. She was a graduate of the Burbank Hospital School of Nursing and was a member of the Burbank Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association. Many years ago she had been a Girl Scout leader in the Townsend area. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law: Marla F. and John Tonseth of Warrington, Pennsylvania, and Lynda M. Fogarty of Townsend; and by a brother, John Merz of Greenfield. A funeral service was held March 15 at T.J. Anderson and Son Funeral Home in Townsend. , 66, of Holland died in Burlington on Wednesday, March 12, 2003. Mrs. McDuff was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, on July 26, 1936, the daughter of Napoleon and Germaine (St. Pierre) Gelineau. She was a past president and active member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program of the Forever Young Club. She enjoyed ceramics, bingo, and playing cards, and she knitted many blankets for needy children through the Linus Project. On April 27, 1955, she married Edward McDuff, who survives her. She is also survived by her children: Carol Zapata of Bonita Springs, Florida, Micheal McDuff of Springfield, Tina M. McDuff of Springfield and Mark A. , 96, of Derby died in Newport on Thursday, March 20, 2003. Mrs. Selan was born in Zagraeb, Yugoslavia, on January 28, 1907, the daughter of Marvo and Leopoldina (Schipek) Schneller. She moved to the United States in 1963 and started Selbar Weaving, which continues today. She was an active participant in the business until she was in her nineties. On March 27, 1927, she married Edmund Selan, who predeceased her. She is survived by her granddaughters Donna Brault and her husband, Patrick, of Newport Center and Deborah Selan and her friend, Richard Bunker, of Cape Cod, Massachusetts; and by her great-grandchildren: Amanda Brault, Donna, Katie, and Jacob. On June 11, 1960, she married Robert Morse, who predeceased her on May 28, 1989. On August 16, 1944, she married Arthur Meunier, who predeceased her. , 43, of Randolph died Sunday, March 9, 2003, at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph. Mrs. Lane was born January 23, 1960, in Newport, the daughter of Carl and Dorcas (Gage) Wright. She attended Brookfield and Holbrook, Massachusetts, schools and graduated from Holbrook High School in 1978. She later continued her education at Norwich University, earning her nursing degree in 1992. She married Alan Lane July 20, 1991, in Rochester. She worked as an emergency medical technician for the Valley Rescue Squad in Rochester for several years. She also worked for Meagher Electronics in Rochester and later worked as a registered nurse at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover, New Hampshire, and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, in the oncology department. She was a member of the Randolph Baptist Fellowship, Tres Dias, White River Valley Players, the Brookfield Community Singers, and the Randolph Community Drug Task Force. She had also served as a mentor to several Randolph Union High School students. She loved art, especially working with mosaics, clay, and paints. Survivors include her husband, Alan Lane; two sons, Christopher M. Collins and Corey D. Collins; and a daughter, Cara G. Collins, all of Randolph. She is also survived by her parents, Carl and Dorcas Wright, of Brookfield; by three stepsons: Steven E. Lane and Chris A. Lane of Texas and Alex D. Lane of Randolph; by a brother, Michael R. Wright, of Randolph; by a sister, Catherine Wright, of Berlin; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Glenn Wright. Funeral services were held March 13 at Randolph Baptist Fellowship, with the Reverend Jerry Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either Brookfield Community Singers, in care of Jeffrey Kimmel, West Street, Brookfield, Vermont 05032; or to Valley Rescue Squad, Rochester, Vermont 05767.

, 45, of Island Pond died in Lebanon, New Hampshire, on Sunday, March 23, 2003. Mrs. Norman was born in Hartford, Connecticut, on October 26, 1957, the daughter of Alfred and Ruth Anne (Howe) Burrier. She enjoyed NASCAR and going to the Groveton racetrack every Saturday night. She also enjoyed playing bingo and taking care of children. On February 17, 1979, she married Paul Norman, who survives her. She is also survived by her children: Jack Brown of Newport, Nina May Labonte of Island Pond, Derrick McCormick-Hayden of Island Pond, Chad Hayden of Island Pond, and Carmelo Deida of Newport; by her father and stepmother, Alfred and Jane Burrier of Huntington, Massachusetts; by her grandchildren Benjamin Lee Brown and Jessie Lee Deida; by her brothers Tommy Troy of North Hampton, Massachusetts, and Willard Troy of San Diego, California; by her sisters: Margaret Burrier of Greenfield, Massachusetts, Linda Alley of Waterbury, Connecticut, Rose Foster of West Charleston, and Sherry Marsh of Derby Line, and Amy Burrier of Huntington, Massachusetts; and by several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. She was predeceased by her mother, Ruth Anne Burrier. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 28, at Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Island Pond at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Roger Fletcher officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the hour of the funeral service on Friday. Private interment will take place at the convenience of the family.
