, 52, of Enfield, N.H., died Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at the Brigham and Women\'s Hospital in Boston, following a sudden illness. She was born in Hanover, N.H., June 23, 1949, a daughter of Earle and Eva (Rameor) Tucker. She had been a resident of this area most of her life and was a graduate of Mascoma Valley Regional High School, Class of 1968. She was married to Frederick J. Stebbins Sr. in 1968. Since 1984, she had made her home in Enfield with Ronald Villeneuve, and they were married July 11, 1992. Carol had been employed with Thermal Dynamics for almost 30 years. She was a member of the Enfield Community Lutheran Church and the American Legion Women\'s Auxiliary. She enjoyed camping, sewing, crafts and cooking, but above all, loved her family and attending the sports activities her children were involved with. She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Eva and Lloyd Tucker of Vero Beach, Fla.; her husband Ronald of Enfield; four children, Frederick J. Stebbins Jr. of Enfield, Timothy P. Stebbins of Keene, N.H., Scott R. Villeneuve of Claremont, N.H., and Samantha L. Villeneuve of West Lebanon, N.H.; three sisters, Joan Aldrich of LaBelle, Fla., Susan Estes of Canaan, N.H., and Mary Tyler of Enfield, N.H.; four grandchildren; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her father, Earle Tucker. , 78, of Stowe, formerly of East Hardwick and Baldwin, N.Y., died in her sleep, Saturday morning, April 27, 2002, at Nassau County Medical Center in Hempstead, Long Island, N.Y. Claire was visiting friends and was hospitalized after a fall on April 21. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Sept. 30, 1923, the daughter of M. Avram and Anna (Fruchtbaum) Ginsberg. She married Eugene A. Fern on Sept. 8, 1946. They moved to East Hardwick in 1975, where she lived until 2000 when she moved to Copley Woodlands in Stowe. Claire was an artist and educator. She attended Cooper Union School of Fine Arts and New York University in New York and Hofstra University in Hempstead, Long Island. She received a bachelor\'s degree in art education from NYU in 1949 and returned to NYU to study early childhood and elementary education, receiving a master\'s degree in 1965. For 17 years prior to moving to East Hardwick, Claire was the director of a cooperative nursery school in Freeport and a pre-kindergarten in Inwood, both on Long Island. She was known for her innovative and award-winning children\'s programs that had at their heart a sincere respect for the intelligence of children. She and Eugene opened the Fern Gallery adjacent to their East Hardwick home in 1975, showing and selling the work of 30 area artists as well as their own. Claire was a batik and fabric artist as well as a painter and papermaker. She was also an art education professor at Johnson State College for several years and an art and music critic for the Hardwick Gazette. Claire was community-minded, had a strong commitment to equality and justice, had a wonderful sense of humor, and was a great cook. She served on a number of local and state boards, including the Hardwick Town School Board, the Governor\'s Commission on Women, AWARE, and the Northeast Kingdom AIDS Coalition. She was also a member of the Hardwick Democratic Committee and was a contributor and supporter of the Samara Foundation. Eugene died on Sept. 6, 1987, and her son, Arnold, died on July 27, 1993. She is survived by her daughter, Marcia Fern Boston of Medford, Mass.; and two granddaughters, Dacia Boston and Adena Boston. , 59, of Parker Hill Road, Rockingham, Vt., died suddenly, Thursday, May 2, 2002 at the Springfield Hospital, Springfield, Vt. She was born June 21, 1942, in Barre, the daughter of Francis and Madeline (Lumbra) Brosseau. She was a 1961 graduate of Mt. Saint Joseph High School, St. Johnsbury. Emilie was a member of the Polish American Club of Bellows Falls and the Eagles Club in Brattleboro. She founded the PeeWee Football Cheerleaders. Her greatest pleasure was to be with her family, especially her grandchildren. On Jan. 21, 1994, she married Bernard Neil of Rockingham, Vt., who survives her. Also surviving her are one son, Rocky LaCroix of St. Johnsbury; three daughters, Mary LaCroix Moore of Bellows Falls, Dee Dee LaCroix Milliken of Charlestown, N.H., and Gloria Neil Vancor of Bellows Falls; one brother, Wayne Brosseau of North Carolina; three sisters, Carol Goodrich of Massachusetts, Theresa Reed of Lyndonville, and Yvonne Mathews of St. Johnsbury; her mother-in-law, Florence Fleming of St. Johnsbury; and also her eight grandchildren, Ashley and Michael Gideos, Shane LaCroix, Fallon and McGregor Vancor, Justin Milliken and Suzanne and Bradley Moore. , 93, a resident of the Lafayette Healthcare Center, Franconia, N.H., passed away Friday, May 3, 2002, after a long illness. He was born in East Tottenham, Germany, the son of Ludwig and Anne (North) Dauten. Formerly he and his wife Phyllis had resided at Colonial Court, Littleton, and for many years in Torrington, Conn., prior to moving to Littleton. While in Torrington, he owned and operated his own bakery business. In 1948, he was the baker at the former Peckett\'s Inn of Sugar Hill, N.H. He was predeceased by his wife Phyllis in June 2001. He is survived by two sons, Peter Dauten of Lisbon, N.H., and Christopher Dauten, Blue Springs, Mo., nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. In New Jersey Mrs. Donaghue had been an active member of the Christ the King Church, School and Bowling League. She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene J. Donaghue, in 1963; two sons, Paul and George Donaghue; and her sister, Kate Maloney. Surviving relatives include her daughter, Jean Levy and husband Jeff of East Ryegate; four grandchildren, Paul Donaghue of Maryland, Christina Myers of West Virginia, Jennifer Donaghue of New Jersey, and Shawn Donaghue of Florida; and three great-grandchildren. He was born April 25, 1923, in Malden, Mass., the son of Edward Timothy and Marion Kate (Blythe) Powell. He attended schools in Malden, Mass., and was a member of the American Legion Marching Band. He married Bernice Lillian Bridge, Jan. 4, 1946. He worked for the Massachusetts State Forestry Department in Andover, Mass. A member of the Motion Pictures Machine Operators Union, Local 182, he worked as a movie operator from 1949 until his retirement in 1966. He was an avid camper. He is survived by his wife, Bernice Powell of Sheffield; four daughters, Robina M. Powell of St. Johnsbury, Dianne B. Leslie of Haverhill, Mass., Kathleen M. Vose of Brattleboro, and Patricia L. Allen of Sheffield; two sons, John J. Powell Jr. of Sheffield, and Edward T. Powell of Sheffield; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Lilly loved spending time with her family and having sleepovers with her grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling and camping all around New England. One of her favorite hobbies was crocheting afghans. Survivors include her son, Otis J. Thompson Jr. and wife Linda of Lyndonville; a daughter, Leora "Lee" Dunphy and husband Ronald of Lyndonville; six grandchildren and their families, Pamela and Dana Kallahan, Patricia and Christopher Rogers, Paula and Bill Eaton, Peggy and Mark Smith, Daniel Thompson and fiancee Jennifer Sanderson, and Karen and Alexis Proia-Thompson; 13 great-grandchildren, Christina, Tyler, Kiersten, Nichole, Morgan, Stephanie, Darien, Autumn, Zachery, Jasmine, Lane, Elizabeth and Emily; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Kimball of Colorado, and Helene Thompson of East Corinth, Vt.; and nieces and nephews. Dave purchased Kelley the Florist in Littleton, which he owned and operated for over 30 years. Pauline went on to attend college in Burlington, Vt., attaining a bachelor of science degree in chemistry. She returned to college and earned a master\'s degree in education from Lyndon State College. She was a teacher in the Bethlehem Public School system for 17 years, teaching math and kindergarten, until her retirement in 1988. She enjoyed gardening, reading and sewing. Pauline was the Bethlehem Tax Collector and sat on the school boards of Bethlehem and Profile High School. Surviving family members include her husband, Howard N. Keach Jr. of Bethlehem; a son, Howard "Chris" N. Keach III of Bethlehem; a grandchild; and a sister, Pennie Chapman of Tunbridge, Vt. , 47, died Sunday, May 5, 2002, after a lingering battle with Alzheimer\'s disease. He was born Aug. 21, 1954 to Robert J. and Patricia (Riley) Leslie in St. Johnsbury. He was diagnosed with Downs Syndrome and lived at home until he was 5 years old. After his father\'s early death in 1958, Brian entered the Children\'s Retreat at Pine Rest Christian Hospital in Grand Rapids, Mich. He attended special education classes and started assembly work at the Sheltered Workshop. Of the three children, his mother was proud that he earned his first paycheck. He is deeply loved and missed by his brother and sister-in-law, Bruce and Marjie-Jane (Wiegel) Leslie and their son Michael Bruce Leslie; and by his sister, Jean E. Leslie. He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia E. (Riley) Leslie, March 22, 2002. A celebration of his life will be held Wednesday, May 8, at 2 p.m., at the Chapel of Pine Rest Hospital, Grand Rapids, Mich., with visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery with his parents and grandparents. , 86, of Gainesville, Fla., died Jan. 12, 2002, in the North Florida Regional Medical Center. He was born in Manchester, N.H., and moved to Gainesville from Fayetteville, Ark., in 1969. He was an entomologist at the University of Florida and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received degrees from Bates College, Texas A & M, and a doctorate from Cornell University. He was an exchange student from Bates College to the University of Rostock, Germany, when Adolph Hitler was in power. During his career, he worked as an entomologist for the agriculture minister in Venezuela and Shell Oil Company in Venezuela. He was a professor at the University of Arkansas before going to the University of Florida. Dr. Whitcomb was a consultant to the United Nations in Peru and Paraguay, and did research in South America, Zaire and Guadaloupe. He is credited with finding the first boll weevil in South America and discovering the homeland of the imported fire ant. He published 200 articles and bulletins and was writing a book on insect predators at the time of his death. Dr. Whitcomb is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy (Goodwin) Whitcomb, the daughter of John Henry and Susie Goodwin; his brother, Howard Whitcomb of Harwich Port, Mass.; and his sisters, Barbara Brown of Clearwater, Fla., and Beatrice Olson of Largo, Fla. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 15, at 2 p.m., in Groton Village Cemetery, Groton, Vt.

22, of 153 Burke View Lane, Monroe, N.H., died Saturday, May 4, 2002, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Junction, Vt. He was born in Haverhill, July 28, 1979, the son of Jeffrey Thompson and Debbie (Rothe) Clough. Luke graduated from Woodsville High School in 1998 and entered the U.S. Air Force, graduating from Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, and was stationed in Wichita Falls, Texas, Tucson, Ariz., and Pope Air Force Base in Fayetteville, N.C., where he served as a crew chief on A-10 fighter jets. He served in Kuwait from December 1999 to March 2000, returning to Pope Air Force Base. In June 2001 he was transferred to Eieleson Air Force Base in Fairbanks, Alaska, until October 2001, when he was transferred to McCord Air Force Base in Washington State. He was a member of the Ross-Wood Post 20 of Woodsville. Luke is survived by his mother, Debbie (Rothe) Clough, and stepfather, Dale Clough of Monroe; his father, Jeffrey Thompson of Benton, N.H.; his stepmother, Robin Elliott of Haverhill; maternal grandparents Fred and Alice Rothe of New London, N.C.; paternal grandfather Alden Thompson and wife Millie of Haverhill; stepgrandmother Irma Clough of Bath; six brothers, Jason Clough of Monroe, Nick, Kyle and Dylan Thompson, all of Haverhill, Mike Clough of Woodsville and Dan Clough of East Ryegate, Vt.; one sister, Kim Clough of East Ryegate; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He worked for Cross Company in White River Junction for 17 years before retiring due to a back injury. Earl enjoyed auto racing, including dirt track racing, street rods, watching NASCAR Racing, and operating the wrecker at Bear Ridge Race Track in Bradford. He also enjoyed spending time in Florida, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his children. He was predeceased by his mother, Rachel Maxham Adams; and a brother, Donald Maxham. He is survived by his wife of Hartland; his daughter Tammie Richardson of Canaan, N.H.; his son, Earl Maxham Jr. of Hartland; three grandchildren; a brother, Calvin Maxham Sr. of Hartland; and several nieces and nephews. He was born in Barton Nov. 28, 1913, the son of Harry and Bertha (Boulett) Davis. Mr. Davis served his country during World War II in the United States Army. For many years he owned and operated the Davis Auto Body Shop. He enjoyed fishing, playing cribbage and telling funny jokes. On Dec. 28, 1935, he married Rebecca May Timson, who survives him in East Concord. Survivors also include two daughters, Irene Morse of Enfield, N.H., and Vivian and husband Wayne Fox of Lyndonville; a daughter-in-law, Shelia Davis of Lyndonville; sisters- and brothers-in-law; 11 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was born in Cabot, March 4, 1940, the son of the late Harry William and Ida (Woods) Foster Sr. Cal grew up on the family farm where he was born. He lived in Connecticut for 10 years and served his country in the U.S. Army for three years. He was a machinist by trade, working in various machine shops before establishing Foster Industries and Caspian Arms. He was a life member of the NRA, a member of Wyoming Masonic Lodge 80 of Plainfield, and he enjoyed traveling, hunting and the outdoors. Cal was predeceased by a son, Eugene Cecil. He is survived by his wife, the former Patricia Cronin, whom he married Dec. 27, 1957; two sons, Calvert Jr. of Bakersfield, and Scott and wife Ruth of Hardwick; three daughters, Julie Ackermann and husband Walter of Cabot, Jayne Fradette and husband Alain of Hardwick, and Amy Sayers and husband David of Hardwick; a brother, Harry Foster Jr. of Cabot; a sister, Mary Shatney of Cabot; and 17 grandchildren. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the des Groseilliers Funeral Home, Church Street, Hardwick. A Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral chapel. , 88, of the Darling Inn, Lyndonville, died Thursday, May 9, 2002, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury. She was born Aug. 12, 1913, in Brighton, the daughter of the late Bert and Ella (Smith) Farmer. A graduate of Brighton High School, Class of 1931, Belle later graduated from Bay Path Junior College in Longmeadow, Mass. On July 1, 1950, she married Robert Ervin Hovey. Belle worked as a bookkeeper for Vermont Tap and Die Company in Lyndonville for many years. Prior to retirement, she was a bookkeeper with the Lyndonville Electric Company, also serving many years. A member of the Lyndonville First Congregational Church, she served as the treasurer there for many years. Other memberships include the General Federation of Women\'s Clubs, and the Order of the Eastern Star, North Star Chapter 25 of Island Pond and Esther Chapter 20 of Lyndonville, where she held many offices including past Worthy Matron throughout the years. She enjoyed reading, knitting, needlepoint, traveling and visiting with family and friends, keeping close ties with the family\'s home farm in Island Pond. She is survived by her nephew and his family, Robert A. Porter and wife Sandra of Island Pond, and their children, Sharon Belanger and husband Mark of West Burke, Susan Cadwell and son Sawyer of Wisconsin, and Robert Porter Jr., Brian Porter and Steven Porter of Island Pond; and her brother-in-law, Samuel Porter and wife Marion, of Corinth. Belle was predeceased by her husband, Robert Hovey, in 1951; her brother, Fritz Farmer, and her sister, Irene (Porter) Coe. , 85, of St. Johnsbury, died Saturday, May 11, 2002, at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center. Isabel was born May 26, 1916, on a farm in Sudbury, Vt., the daughter of Harold and Stella (Jones) Selleck. She attended country schools and graduated from Brandon High School. Four years later Isabel graduated from the University of Vermont with Phi Beta Kappa honors and then taught home economics at Orleans High School for two years. She assumed the duties of Caledonia County 4-H agent based in St. Johnsbury the following year. In 1941, she married Dr. Maurice E. Rowe of Barnet. During the early war years, Isabel traveled with Maurice to U.S. Army stations in Pennsylvania, Washington, Kentucky, Florida, Virginia and West Virginia. When Maurice was shipped overseas, Isabel returned to her parents\' home in Sudbury and gave birth to Linda Jean on Jan. 8, 1944. When Maurice returned from the war, he trained to become a surgeon in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin and the family grew to five members with the births of Larry in December 1948, and Jerry in June 1950. Upon returning to St. Johnsbury, the Rowes lived on Underclyffe Road and joined the North Congregational Church in 1956. Isabel was very involved in her children\'s activities - sports, Sunday school, scouts and PTA. She taught home economics part-time at Danville High School, served on the local school boards, volunteered in numerous civic organizations and later worked as a clerk at Evergreen Flower and Gift Shop. In 1981, Isabel and Maurice sold their home in St. Johnsbury and lived in North Danville in the summers and Bradenton, Fla., in the winters. Maurice died in 1986. Isabel continued to spend her winters in Florida until 1993. She returned to St. Johnsbury and resided in her apartment in the Old Counsell House on Main Street. Isabel was active in the Seed and Weed Club, the United Workers of North Church, and was an RSVP volunteer at the Fairbanks Museum, St. Johnsbury Athenaeum, Chamber of Commerce information booth, St. Johnsbury Academy and the TLC group. Survivors include three children, Linda J. Kaley and husband Lee of Denver, Colo., Larry E. Rowe and wife Nancy of Brandon, Vt., and Jerry S. Rowe and wife Jane of St. Johnsbury. She enjoyed her four grandchildren, Amy and Eric Rowe, and Jennifer and Daniel Knapp. She is also survived by a sister, Ada Coats of Las Cruces, N.M. She was predeceased by a brother, Stuart Selleck, who died at the age of 23. There will be no visiting hours. Marjorie was born Sept. 10, 1923, in Bridgeport, Conn., the daughter of John and Annie (Warwick) Baron. She lived in Walden, where she raised her family and operated the family farm with her husband Willis, from 1947 to 1968. From 1968 until 1983 she lived in East Hardwick. She was a member of the East Hardwick United Church, the Eastern Star and the Womens Fellowship. Marjorie was employed by Caledonia Home Health as financial officer for 15 years. She enjoyed sports, attending many games at Hazen Union High School. Marjorie was predeceased by her husband Willis, Oct. 1, 1998. She is survived by one son, Jack Strong and wife Coleen of Walden and their sons Jay and Jeff; two daughters, Diane Hill and husband Dan of East Hardwick and their sons Aaron and Travis and granddaughter Letitia, and Judy Peterson and husband Ron of Barre, and their children, Matthew, Katie and Christine. 59, of Sanville Road, Westfield, Vt., passed away in Newport, Wednesday, May 15, 2002. He was born May 6, 1943, in Fulda, Germany. Matt came to the United States from Germany when he was 12 and lived in the New York area until moving to Westfield in 1973. He worked in the family business, Rozelle Cosmetics, for 30 years. He was a member of the American Legion North Troy Post 28 and a member of the Monday night bowling league at Missisquoi Lanes. Matt had many hobbies and interests, such as ham radio operator, licensed pilot (he owned a plane with his friends), motorcycling, antique cars, gardening, antique radios, electronics, working outdoors and camping. He was especially fond of the time spent with his many friends, and particularly with his Jct. 101 coffee mates and joining the musicians at the Bobbin Mill Restaurant every Wednesday. Matt married the former Lisa Maclure in 1978; she predeceased him in 2000. He was also predeceased by his parents, Don and Rosel Brittain. He is survived by his brother, Claus Bauer of Munster, Germany; his sister, Claudia Bauer of Frankfurt, Germany; a niece, Petra Bauer of Germany; a nephew, J?rgen Bauer and wife Maria of Germany; two aunts, Paula Br?ler of Germany and Mitza VanDamm of Barton; his very good friend, Dianne Laplante of Westfield; his Rozelle family; and many cousins. , 89, of Railroad Street, Lancaster, died suddenly at her home, Tuesday, May 14, 2002. Mrs. Derosier was born in Lancaster Feb. 9, 1913, the daughter of Frank X. and Olivine (Bilodeau) Nadeau. She was a lifelong resident who moved no farther than around the corner from her childhood home. Graduating from Lancaster Academy, she went on to attend bookkeeping school in Burlington, Vt. Known as an "old-fashioned bookkeeper extraordinaire," she never used a computer. She worked for Thompson Manufacturing of Lancaster, Groveton Paper Company and Weeks Memorial Hospital. She retired there at 68 years of age but continued on as a Weeks Volunteer for more than 10 years. She was the widow of John L. Derosier, who died in 1977. Devoted to her family, church and work, she was also known for her wit and political savvy. Recently attending her 70th class reunion she stood up during roll call and proclaimed "I\'m back!" She loved gardening and will be missed by many cats and birds that received her fond attention. She was a communicant of All Saints Catholic Church, Lancaster, and a member of the Lancaster Business and Professional Women. Family members include three sons, J. Michael Derosier of Somersworth, N.H., James A. Derosier of Center Barnstead, N.H., and Jerry A. Derosier of Wells, Maine; a daughter, Jane Burgold of Hampton, Va.; a brother, Hubert Nadeau of Lancaster; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He relocated to the Rutland area in 1989 and was employed at Rutland Plywood for seven years, until he received the job of maintenance supervisor on the Amtrak Ethan Allen Train. He enjoyed automobiles and stock car racing. He married Sheila Raw July 3, 1993. She later came to Lancaster to work and there she met and married the late Robert J. Parks Sr. Working as a nurses aide all her life, she was employed at nursing homes in Jefferson and Lancaster. She was also employed for many years at Weeks Memorial Hospital. Knitting and making fudge were some of her favorite pastimes. She was an active member of the Lancaster Assembly of God Church. Family members include four sons, Robert J. Parks Jr., James R. Parks, Gary S. Parks and Jon W. Parks, all of Lancaster; a daughter, Mary A. Oakes of Groveton; three brothers, Kenneth Dodge of Springfield, Vt., Bernard Dodge of Sugar Hill, N.H., and Ervin Dodge of Montpelier, Vt.; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was born April 21, 1923, in Burlington, the daughter of the late Harold E. and Elsa P. (Woodbury) Crane. In 1941 Laura graduated from Morrisville Academy in Morrisville. For more than 20 years she worked for Edmunds Manufacturing in Farmington, Conn., as an electronic assembler and inspector. On Sept. 23, 1977, she married Glenn A. Terwilleger. In 1993 Laura and Glenn moved from Plainville, Conn., to Lyndonville, where they enjoyed their retirement. Spending time with her family was most important to her. She enjoyed traveling around New England and to California and Florida. Playing the piano and organ brought great joy to her family and friends. She also enjoyed working in her gardens. Survivors include her husband, Glenn Terwilliger of Lyndonville; four sons and their wives, Jeffery and Sharon King of Dana Point, Calif., Ronald and Susan King of Terryville, Conn., David and Jean King of Forestville, Conn. and Lyndonville, and Brian and Candace King of Lyndonville; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, David Crane and wife Barbara of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Edward Crane of Schenectady, N.Y.; a sister, Charlotte Pacetti and husband Roland of Lady Lake, Fla.; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was born in St. Johnsbury, Sept. 14, 1920, the daughter of Harry and Francise (Batchelder) Brown. She was a 1938 graduate of St. Johnsbury Academy. The Farrows returned to Danville in 1974 from Kittery, Maine. Margaret was very active in the Danville United Methodist Church where she served as church treasurer and secretary of the church women's group. She belonged to the Danville Snowmobile Club, was active in the Red Cross in Kittery, and had her real estate license. She is survived by her husband, Howard "Ted" Farrow; two children, Gary Farrow and wife Linda of Danbury, Conn., and Kay Dewyea and husband Harry of Fairfield, Vt.; two grandsons, Matthew Farrow and Kevin Farrow of Danbury, Conn.; one brother, Paul Brown and wife Alta of Silver Springs, Fla. , 89, of Lyndonville, died peacefully at his home Saturday morning, May 18, 2002. He was born Nov. 8, 1912, in St. Johnsbury, the son of the late Perley R. and Maude N. (Smith) Russell. He was a graduate of St. Johnsbury Academy, Class of 1930. In 1935 Hazen married Cornelia J. "Babe" Marlowe. Hazen became a registered pharmacist in 1934. He worked for Parker Drug Store in St. Johnsbury. In 1943 he moved his family to Lyndonville and opened Russell's Drug Store there, which he operated for 36 years until his retirement in 1979. He continued to work as a part-time pharmacist in the area for several more years. Very active in the Lyndonville community, Hazen held many town and village offices over the years, donating over 137 years of community service. He served the Vermont State Board of Pharmacy as its secretary for 10 years. Hazen was a long-time volunteer at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital, a Lyndonville Rotarian, a member of the Lyndonville First Congregational Church, a Mason, a Shriner and a member of the Elks. During World War II, at the age of 18, he served as a front line U.S. Army medic in the European Theatre. Among other battles, he served in the Ardennes Forest and the Battle of the Bulge. , 67, of St. Johnsbury, died Tuesday morning, May 21, 2002, at his home. He was born April 9, 1935, in Lyndon, the son of the late Charles R. and Blanche M. (Davis) Brooks. Ronald entered the U.S. Army in 1955, serving two years, mostly in Germany, in the 3rd armored cavalry division. Ronald worked for Vermont Tap and Die Company in Lyndonville for 36 years. He was a member of the VFW Post 10038 and the American Legion Post 30 of Lyndon. An honest and hard-working man, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and cookouts with his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Patricia "Pat" (Vaughan) Brooks of St. Johnsbury, whom he married March 14, 1986; three sons, Andrew R. Brooks of St. Johnsbury, Charles H. She graduated from Richmond High School and later attended Maryville Presbyterian College in Maryville, Tenn. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, where she was active in many groups. She loved music, most recently playing the cello. On Aug. 7, 1971, she married Robert "Bob" Herreid, who survives her in Waterford. He was born Sept. 11, 1927, in Richford, the son of the late Ernest and Gertrude (Deuso) Marston. Richard had been a resident of Enosburg Falls since November 2001, and was a former resident of St. Albans, Barton, Colchester and Jeffersonville. He served in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed at IBM in Essex for 26 years, retiring in 1987. He enjoyed fishing, camping, boating and traveling. Most of all he loved to visit with family and friends. Richard and Janice were married Nov. 15, 1992. , 76, of McIntyre School Apartments in Whitefield, N.H., died there Wednesday morning, May 22, 2002, after a long illness. Mr. Nesbit was born in Brattleboro, May 17, 1924, the son of John "George" and Helen (Clune) Nesbit. Raised in Brattleboro, he attended schools there and went on to serve with the U.S. Air Force during World War II as a belly gunner on a B-24. After being shot down he was a prisoner of war in Bulgaria. In September 1951 he married Earline Carey and for many years they resided in Ashuelot, N.H. He was employed at the Ashuelot Mill for 34 years. After retirement, they divided their time between Florida and Powder Hill Drive in Lancaster. Paul had lived in Whitefield for most of this year. Family members include two sons, Michael Nesbit of Chesterfield, N.H., and Daniel Nesbit of West Swanzey, N.H.; a step-daughter, Barbara Hildreth of Winchester, N.H.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lucy Beruck of Winchester. He was predeceased by his wife in 1990; three children, Patrick, Denise and Dennis; a brother, Robert Nesbit; three sisters, Betty Dyke, Hope Nesbit, and Toots Emery; and a great-grandson, Jason Hildreth. , 12, of Concord, Vt., died peacefully in the arms of her mother and father at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center Children\'s Hospital in Lebanon, N.H., Wednesday, May 22, 2002. She was born in St. Johnsbury, April 26, 1990, the daughter of Danny and Susan (Stuart) Noyes. Shelby attended the Good Shepherd Catholic School of St. Johnsbury and was in the sixth grade. She enjoyed basketball, chorus and religion. Shelby was an avid equestrian and a member of the Vermont Stock Horse Association. She was a high point champion in her division at both the county and state levels for 2000 and 2001. Shelby belonged to the South Kirby Hilltoppers 4-H Club. She was also a member of the Northeast Kingdom Figure Skating Association and loved being on the ice with her friends. Shelby had a very close walk with God, and was a member of the Concord Baptist Church. Survivors include her sister, Regan; her parents, Danny and Susan Noyes of Concord; and her grandparents, Henry and Mildred Stuart Jr. of Concord. She was especially close to her aunt Cyndi Stuart, her uncle Bill Humphrey, and cousins Evan Stuart-Humphrey and Caleb Stuart-Humphrey. She is also survived by aunts and uncles, Dennis and Michelle Noyes of St. Johnbury, Steve and Gina Noyes of Lyndonville, Douglas and Karen Noyes of Lyndonville, and Thomas and Patricia Noyes of Concord, and many cousins. She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Paul and Gloria Noyes of St. Johnsbury, and a special aunt, Bette Noyes of Lyndonville. , 74, of Bridgeport, Conn., died March 21, 2002, at Carolton Convalescent Home in Fairfield, Conn. Mr. Field was born in Manchester, Conn., and resided in Bridgeport for many years. He was a retired tool and die maker for the Bullard Company. Mr. Field was also a Mason, an Eagle Scout, a Drum Major in the Bridgeport and Stratford (Conn.) Pipe Bands, a past president of the Field Family Association, a Friend of Bill W.\'s, a volunteer for the Family Relations Department at the Bridgeport Court House, and an honorary deputy sheriff for Fairfield County. He was a 1945 graduate of West Springfield High School, West Springfield, Mass., and a 1997 graduate of Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport, where he earned an associate\'s degree in criminal justice. He vacationed regularly in the Barnet area, where his family had originally settled, and various relations remain to this day. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Norma Ann McClellan. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth MacAulay and wife Ann Field of Waynesboro, Ga., and Eugene Andrew and wife Regina Field of Waterbury, Conn.; one daughter, Mary Christina Hall (Field) and husband Frederic Fricke of Trumbull, Conn.; three sisters, Mildred Hope Berry of Bristol, Conn., Marilyn and husband Leon Rank of Balston Lake, N.Y., and Joyce Morris of South Windsor, Conn.; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. , 76, of Rose Hill, Bluffton, S.C., died Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at her home. Mrs. Marshall was born in Brockton, Mass., the daughter of the late Herbert and Marion Fudge Bates. She was a 1947 graduate of Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass. She was a resident of New Jersey prior to moving to Shaftsbury, Vt., where she and her husband Henry were innkeepers at The Iron Kettle Motel. In 1990 they moved to Rose Hill Plantation in Bluffton. She was a very active volunteer. She loved bowling and was an avid golfer and bridge player in New Jersey and at Rose Hill Country Club. She is survived by her husband, Henry L. Marshall of Rose Hill; a son and daughter-in-law, John Marshall and Jan S. Eastman of Peacham; a brother, Herbert Bates Jr. of Mashpee, Mass.; a sister, Barbara Bates of Brockton, Mass; and a granddaughter, Samantha Marshall, who is attending Wesleyan University in Connecticut. , 90, of Pompano Beach, Fla., formerly of Wells River, died Saturday, May 4, 2002, at Hollywood Florida Hospital Hospice Unit, with his wife at his side. He was born September 7, 1911 in Wells River, the son of John and Annie (Grant) Thomas. He graduated from Wells River High School in 1929 and from Columbia University School of Pharmacy in 1933. He worked as a pharmacist in Wells River and Concord, N.H. until 1939, when he bought his own store, Thomas Pharmacy, in Wells River. In 1974 he sold the store and retired. Throughout this time he was active in village affairs, serving on the school board and as a village trustee. He was a long-time member of the Wells River Congregational Church and served as a deacon and on the board of trustees. Jim was named an Incorporator of the Wells River Savings Bank in 1944 and later was elected to the board of directors. He also served as president and chairman of the bank. Jim was on the Vermont State Board of Pharmacy, serving as its president in 1964. He was married on May 29, 1939 to Lona (Main) Thomas, who survives him. They became residents of Pompano Beach, Fla. in 1993, where Jim served for many years on the board of directors of their Hillsboro Shores Condominium Association. Besides his wife, Lona, he leaves cousins Marilyn (Thomas) Brandt, Sharon (Thomas) Hepfner and Arthur Thomas; other close relatives Robert J. Brock, Alan L. Brock and Thomas C. He loved playing football at LI and his number was "75." He had a Blue Ford named the "Ridge Runner." He helped start the mud bogs at the Lyndonville Fair Grounds and was one of the "Mud Puppies." He was a volunteer at the seventh hole snack shack at the annual Hospice Golf tournament. He loved going to all of his children\'s school activities. He worked as a truck driver for Carl Johnson Trucking Company. He had worked for B & L Transport and Northern Gas Transport. Hazel was a graduate of Littleton High School, Class of 1938. She was a waitress at the Littleton Diner and employed by Connors and Hoffman for several years, prior to moving to Dover, N.H. She was employed by the Miller Shoe Shop in Dover for 10 years. Hazel was a volunteer for the Dover House Health Care and the Dover Red Cross Blood Bank. She was a member of the First Parish Congregational Church of Dover and the church\'s Friendly Club. She resided in Dover until her husband\'s death, after which she moved to California. She is survived by her daughter Lorna and husband Ronald Aldrich of Chula Vista, Calif.; three grandsons, Randall and Sheila Aldrich and their daughter Shelly of Chula Vista, Scott and Kelly Aldrich and their son Dustin of Destin, Fla., and Terry and Alicia Aldrich and their sons Jeremy and Justin of Phoenix, Ariz.; and one granddaughter, Debbie and Shawn Hubbard and their son Kyle and daughter Emily of Fort Myers, Fla. , 46, of Maple Ridge Trailer Park in Lyndonville, died Wednesday, May 22, 2002, in the Emergency Room at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital. He was born Sept. 29, 1955 in St. Johnsbury, the son of Sherman and Thea (Ward) Warren. He is survived by his parents, formerly of St. Johnsbury and now of Stuart, Fla.; his brother, Scott Warren and wife Michelle of St. Johnsbury; and his sister, Tracy Lambert of Stuart, Fla. Public graveside services will be held Tuesday, May 28 at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. The Rev. Melvin A. Richardson, NVRH chaplain, will officiate. There will be no calling hours.

, 23, of 491 Main Street, Franconia, died suddenly, Thursday evening, May 23, 2002. She was born in Littleton, the daughter of Alan and Andrea (Girard) Hall. She had lived in Franconia for the past year, but essentially was a native of Littleton. She graduated from Littleton High School, Class of 1997, and cum laude from the University of New Hampshire, Class of 2001. While attending LHS she enjoyed a variety of activities such as field hockey, basketball, Odyssey of the Mind, and drama. She had a passion for drama and any type of art. School plays she participated in included "Oklahoma!," "Where\'s Billy?," "Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner," and "Guys and Dolls." "Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner," a one-act play, was performed for the New Hampshire Educational Guild Festival at White Mountains Regional High School. She was also pleased to win an award for her role as Jessica, a ditzy waitress -- a glance at her future! Angela was chosen by her high school class to be a graduation ceremony Marshal. In her junior year of college, she spent the spring semester at Regent\'s College in London, England. She earned an invitation to attend the Honors Convocation held in May at UNH for the 2000 and 2001 school years. She was employed as a waitress at the Lloyds Hill Restaurant and the Cold Mountain Cafe in Bethlehem. She is survived by her parents, Alan and Andrea Hall of Littleton; a brother, Bennett Hall of Littleton; her boyfriend, Shane Carberry; her maternal grandparents, Forrest and Thelma Girard of Littleton; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Ross Funeral Home, Littleton Chapel, today, Monday, May 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the St. Rose of Lima Church Tuesday, May 28 at 10 a.m. Burial will take place at a later date in the Glenwood Cemetery. , 66, died Friday, May 24, 2002, at the Grafton County Nursing Home in North Haverhill, following an extended illness. She was born in Northfield, Mass., July 6, 1935, the daughter of Christopher J. and Josephine (Zolyniak) Frost. She was a longtime resident of Haverhill, where she worked as a bookkeeper and administrative cashier at the former Grossman\'s Lumber Company in North Haverhill, retiring in 1983. Upon retirement she and her husband Stewart moved to Hinsdale, N.H., where the resided until 1991, when they returned to Haverhill. Mrs. Holden was a communicant of St. Joseph\'s Roman Catholic Church of Woodsville and a former member of the St. Joseph\'s Women\'s Club, and she was a volunteer at the St. Joseph\'s Food Bank. She was also a member of Auxiliary Unit 20 of Ross-Wood American Legion in Woodsville. She was predeceased by her husband, Stewart E. Holden, Jan. 17, 1992; a son, Steven A. Holden, Aug. 2, 1986; and a brother, Christopher Frost, in January 1992. Survivors include one daughter, Lynnette Graham and husband James, and one son, Alfred "Jay" Holden and wife Sylvia, all of Woodsville; four grandsons, Jacob Holden, Caleb Holden, Derek Graham and James Graham; one sister, Christina Adams of Grosse Ile, Mich.; one brother, John E. Frost, of Brattleboro, Vt.; several nieces and nephews, one grand-niece, two grand-nephews, and several cousins and uncles. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, May 28 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch St., Woodsville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, May 29 at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph\'s Roman Catholic Church, 15 Pine St., Woodsville. , 71, of 178 Mountain View Drive in St. Johnsbury, passed away at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury, Monday, May 27, 2002. She was born April 23, 1931, the daughter of the late George Franklin and Jennie Isabel (Chenney) Moore. Her husband, Richard Fletcher, predeceased her. She is survived by her four children, Rose MacDougall and husband Ernest of St. Johnsbury Center, Dennis Fletcher and wife Debra of Sheffield, Ernestine McLain and husband Ronald of St. Johnsbury Center, and Ann Norrie of Sutton; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, George Moore and Robert Moore, both of Lyndonville; two sisters, Isabelle Moore of Massachusetts, and Eva Elliott and husband Dwayne of St. Johnsbury Center; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the Woods-Trefren & Pearsons Funeral Home Friday, May 31, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Barbara Dwyer officiating. , 75, of Lyndon Corner, died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at his home. He was born May 22, 1927, in Greensboro, the son of the late William and Hazel (Emerson) Stevens. George was a truck driver, hauling milk for Cabot Creamery for many, many years. He hauled logs for Neil McFarland for several years and was also a house painter. He was a member of the Tom Breslin Center in Lyndonville. Over the years George and his wife Velma (Berry) could be seen keeping a watchful eye on Depot Street from the "Diamond." He enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting, and most of all spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Velma B. Stevens of Lyndon Corner; three sons and their wives, Willie and Dot Stevens of Waterford, Herbert and Theresa Reed of Lyndonville, and Earl and Peggy Reed of Newark; eight daughters, Elizabeth Kennedy of St. Johnsbury, Virginia Gelinas and husband Roger of Stark, N.H., Arlene Morse and husband Dale of St. Johnsbury, Anna Stevens and friend Tony of Middletown, Conn., Elaine Noyes and husband Ronald of Lyndonville, Marion Whitney and husband Bryce of Hyde Park, Barbara Degree of Littleton, N.H., and Betty Murphy of Holyoke, Mass.; 32 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; a brother, Edward Stevens of Hardwick; two sisters-in-law, Verla Hudson of Wheelock, and Virginia Powers of Lyndon Center; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by three brothers, Renfrew, William and Kenneth Stevens; and three sisters, Dora Hooker, Dorothy Stevens and Jean Fellows. , 94, longtime resident of West Cottage Street in St. Johnsbury, died Feb. 10, 2002. She was predeceased by her husband Louis in 1986, and by three sisters, Marion Miller in 1975, Doris Moore in 1979, and Martha Gallagher in 1997. She is survived by two sisters, Charlotte Wheaton of Laguna Woods, Calif., and Helen Desrochers of St. Johnsbury; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 8 at 11 a.m., at St. Andrew\'s Episcopal Church in St. Johnsbury. Burial will follow at Passumpsic Cemetery. , 85, formerly of 2 Perkins Place, Woodsville, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville. She had been a resident of the Grafton County Home since March of 2002. Ms. Prescott was born June 25, 1916, in Woodsville, the daughter of Asa and Cora (Leonard) Prescott. She was a graduate of Woodsville High School. Ms. Prescott worked as a credit reporter in the Grafton County Register of Deeds office until age 75, at which time she began doing title searches for several local attorneys. She was a member of AARP, a former member of the Woodsville Grange, the American Legion Ross Wood Post 20 Auxiliary Unit, and the United Methodist Church of Woodsville; and she was a volunteer for seniors at the Grafton County Home and Senior Center. Surviving relatives include one sister, Vivian Batchelder of Woodsville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ms. Prescott was predeceased by five brothers and two sisters. At her request there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held Monday, June 3, at 3 p.m., in the Pine Grove Cemetery on Swiftwater Road in Woodsville. Pastor Elizabeth Davis of the Woodsville United Methodist Church will officiate. , 97, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center. The daughter of Leo and Nettie McClure, she was born Aug. 11, 1904, in Bradford, and was a 1921 graduate of Bradford Academy, later graduating from Bay Path Institute in Springfield, Mass. She spent her entire life in Vermont, living in Bradford, Rutland, Lyndonville and St. Johnsbury. Most of her working years she spent in office work in Bradford. She was a past matron of the Ione Chapter 31 Order of the Eastern Star, secretary of the Masonic Hall committee, and a member of the Congregational Church of Bradford. In 1928 she married Alexander MacLeod. They had two sons, Alan and Norman. Gladys is survived by her son Norman; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Alexander and her son Alan. A graveside service will be held in July at Sawyer Cemetery in Bradford.
