, 81, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002, at the Gill Oddfellows Home in Ludlow, Vt. A former St. Johnsbury resident, she provided child care out of her Belvidere Street home. She was born in St. Johnsbury, Aug. 30, 1921, the daughter of Cyrus and Bessie (Lanphear) Skinner. Her husband, Lawrence H. Bickford, preceded her in death 38 years ago in 1964. Her family writes: "Our mother was a wonderful caring and giving person, and it was all our pleasures to be her sons. Rhoda touched the lives of many children during her years running a child-care business in her home. The children were treated as if they were her own and they always had a safe and loving environment to spend their time away from their parents. Hopefully they have all taken away the gift of caring along with them. Rhoda was one of the most successful people I know as success is to be measured by the giving from the heart, and I do not think I will ever know anyone who could have given any more of herself than Rhoda." She is survived by three sons, Wayne Bickford and wife Linda of Littleton, Colo., Larry Bickford and wife Jackie of Arvada, Colo., and Carl Bickford and wife Linda of Weston (118 Highland Ave., Weston, VT 05161); seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one sister, Kitty Crowe of Derby; and one brother, Lester Skinner of Newport. Spring graveside services are scheduled for Friday, May 9, at 2 p.m., at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. All will be welcome to attend.
