, 80, of Prospect Street, Bethlehem, N.H., went to rest with the Lord, Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002. She was born June 15, 1922 in Hawthorne, N.Y., a daughter to Hugo and Gertrude (Joerchel) Mortsch. She attended Hawthorne Grammar School and nearby Pleasantville, N.Y. High School. Following her graduation from high school, she commuted daily to New York City, where she was employed at the National Council of the Protestant Episcopal Church. She married George S. Allen in March 1942. She was active in Hawthorne community affairs and worked closely with the local school system. Gert worked part-time in the secretarial and accounting department for several new car agencies in White Plains, N.Y. During her children's younger years Gert returned to the business scene for several years as a Welcome Wagon Hostess for the Hawthorne/Thornwood, N.Y. area. She also enjoyed several years as a Girl Scout leader. Their summers were spent in Bethlehem, N.H., at their cottage on Lewis Hill Road. In 1971 Gert married Herbert Waggoner and they resided in Wantagh, N.Y. After Herb's retirement in 1984, the couple chose Bethlehem as their permanent home. Gert was an eager gardener and spent many pleasurable hours planting flower beds and tending to her beloved flowers, which she generously shared with friends. Gert was active in the antique field for many years and served on the Bethlehem Bicentennial Committee in 1974. She chaired the very successful antique show and assisted with the preparation of the Bicentennial History of Bethlehem. She volunteered at Littleton Regional Hospital from 1992 until her health no longer permitted in 2000. She attended the Faith Bible Church in Littleton with her husband. Surviving family members include her husband, Herbert Waggoner of Bethlehem; a daughter, Carol and husband Edward Haith of Manassas, Va.; three sons, Richard B. and wife Janet Allen of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Roger Waggoner of Sag Harbor, N.Y., and Brian and Kathleen Waggoner of Suffern, N.Y.; a brother, Paul and Marie Mortsch of Valhalla, N.Y.; a sister, Gladys Whyte of Fishkill, N.Y.; and eight grandchildren. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at the Faith Bible Church in Littleton, Saturday, Oct. 5, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Mac Starring officiating. Burial will be private at the Maple Street Cemetery in Bethlehem. A tribute in her memory may be made to the F.B.C. , 58, of Wheelock, died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002, at his home. The son of Harold C. and Stella (Waiter) Anderson, he was born Nov. 1, 1943 in Middletown, Conn. He spent most of his life in Connecticut, where he worked as a diesel mechanic for Concord Steel and others. He married Christel E. Mertens, enjoyed stock car racing, and loved hunting. Raymond is survived by his wife of 33 years, Christel of Wheelock; three children, Wayne H. Maynard and wife Kim of Connecticut, Wendy H. Washburn and husband Keith of Louisiana, and Donna M. Anderson Wollum of Connecticut; four grandchildren, Tim, Mellissa, Monique and Alicia; a sister, Joan A. Anderson and husband Bruce Woronoff of Connecticut; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Stella; and a brother, Clifford G. Anderson. A memorial service will be held Friday, Oct. 4, at 1 p.m., at the Guibord Funeral Home, located on the corner of Main and Center streets in Lyndonville. , 88, formerly of Wells River, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at the home of her daughter in Manlius, N.Y. She was born in Groton, Nov. 19, 1913, the daughter of Horace and Carrie (Smith) James, and was a Groton High School graduate. She married Elwin A. Boyce and they made their home in Wells River where they raised their family. Mrs. Boyce had resided with her daughter Patricia Fournier in Manlius for the past six years. She was a former member of the South Ryegate Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Boyce was predeceased by her husband Elwin on Dec. 11, 1991; a son, Robert Boyce, Dec. 14, 2000; two great-grandchildren, Erika and Abbey Goodwin; three sisters, Emma Graham, Ethel Wheeler and Ruby Beck; and a brother, Darius James. Survivors include two sons, Gordon Boyce of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Wayne Boyce of Grand Prairie, Texas; two daughters, Patricia Fournier of Manlius, N.Y., and Janice Brown of North Haverhill, N.H.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was born Dec. 16, 1920 in St. Johnsbury, to Arthur and Serena (Webber) Wilkins, with Serena dying that day. Evangeline was legally adopted by Peter and Minola (Webber) Thorley. Van married Fernand "Fred" Ouellette; he preceded her in death Aug. 4, 2002. She was involved with the Emblem Club and had been president of the St. Johnsbury chapter as well as president for the state of Vermont. She was most recently a member of the Montpelier club. She gave volunteer service at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital and St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary of St. Johnsbury. Van is survived by two sons, Robert Ouellette and wife Marcia of Columbus, Ohio, and Ronald Ouellette and wife Barbara of Keene, N.H.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Grace Wakeham of St. Johnsbury; and a brother, Harold Wilkins of Lyndonville. , 60, of Island Pond, beloved husband of Diane Daniels, died suddenly, Monday, Oct. 7, 2002 at North Country Hospital in Newport. He was born May 9, 1942 in Island Pond, a son of Clarence and Rena (Hosford) Daniels, who predeceased him. On Oct. 3, 1970, he married the former Diane DeLaBruere, who survives him. Mr. Daniels was an office technician for Lyndonville Office Equipment for 10 years. He also upholstered furniture for 40 years, known as Walt's Upholstery. He was a former selectman for Island Pond, past Boy Scout troop leader, past member of the Vermont Army National Guard, and past member of the North Country Swingers. Walt was a jack of all trades, as he built several homes and his first at the age of 16. He enjoyed helping people, traveling with his wife Diane and family members, and family gatherings. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Diane of Island Pond; his children, Walter R. Daniels and wife Karen of East Burke, Christine Jenks and husband Dusty of East Burke, and Marie Routhier and husband Alan of Williston; grandchildren, Victoria, Allyssa and Jacob Daniels, Austin and Melena Jenks, and Tyler Routhier; sisters, Margrite Morgan and husband Floyd of Island Pond, and Gloria Taylor of Morgan; sister-in-law Rita Daniels of Island Pond; several nieces and nephews; his mother- and father-in-law, Roland and Cecile DeLaBruere; and Diane's 11 brothers and sisters and their spouses. He was predeceased by a brother, Cecil Daniels, in July 2002. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 10, at 11 a.m., at the Grace Brethren Church in Island Pond, with the Rev. , 88, of Lancaster Road, Groveton, died peacefully at Weeks Memorial Hospital in Lancaster, Friday, Oct. 4, 2002. Born Aug. 15, 1914 in Groveton, a son of Andrew J. and Georgiana (Couture) Marshall, he was a lifelong resident of Groveton. He graduated in 1931 from Groveton High School, and later obtained a business degree from Concord Business School. Don served as secretary to the Speaker of the House of Representatives for the state of New Hampshire, and he was a founding member of the Milk Control Board. Donald was the third of the locally famous Marshall brothers, who owned and operated the Marshall Farm for many decades. Don started the Marshall Farm Dairy, which was well-known throughout the North Country and serviced many of the area hotels, including the Mount Washington, Crawford House and the Balsams for many years. The dairy was also the first in the state to have pasteurized milk. Marshall's milk was endorsed by many local doctors as being the only safe milk to feed your babies. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a pilot during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Fredonwarell Post 17 of Groveton; the Gilkey Lodge 101 F & AM, where he received the Sullivan Award in 2000; the Eastern Star Olive Branch, Branch 1 of Lancaster; and a noble of the Mystic Shrine of Concord, N.H., Bektash Temple. Donald was a member of the Groveton United Methodist Church and the Northumberland Historical Society. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed motorcycling, flying and snowmobiling. He was a charter member of the Groveton Trailblazers as well as the owner of the first snowmobile in New England. Don enjoyed tending his lawn and gardens during the summer months. He loved spending time with his family and friends. After selling the dairy farm in 1978, he and his wife spent several winters traveling cross-country to Arizona. He also delivered milk to Groveton schools. From age 65-75 he drove a school bus for the town of Maidstone, Vt., transporting the children to Groveton. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Donald is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ava (Barnes) Marshall of Groveton; a son, Richard Marshall of Groveton; a daughter, Kathy Marshall of North Hollywood, Calif.; three granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Georgiana; two brothers, Clarence and Harold Sr.; two sisters, Gladys and Pearl; and his lifelong friend, Frank Hall. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 2 p.m., in the Northumberland Cemetery, with the Rev. Fred Lawrence, pastor of the Groveton United Methodist Church, officiating. , 65, of St. Johnsbury, died at home early Monday morning, Oct. 7, 2002. He was born in Burlington, June 20, 1937, the son of Stanford and Dorothy (Voley) White. Bob was raised in early childhood by Nellie Lee and Robert Powers. On Sept. 27, 1958 he married Bernadette (Peruggia) White in Chaumont, France; she survives him in St. Johnsbury. Robert was an air traffic controller, serving in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army in Korea and Vietnam, retiring from the Army Nov. 30, 1978 after 22 years of service. Other survivors include three children, Larry and life companion Barbara Sheppard of Enterprise, Ala., Linda and husband Vernon Elliott of Fort Campbell, Ky., and Laurie and husband George Fenoff of St. Johnsbury; and seven grandchildren, Nicole, Melissa and Eric Elliott of Fort Campbell, Ky., Michelle, Kristen and Michael Fenoff of St. Johnsbury, and Jackie Sheppard of Enterprise, Ala. She was born Feb. 16, 1916, and grew up in St. Johnsbury. She was the daughter of the late William and Susan (Morey) Coombs. She graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy. She also lived in Mount Hermon, Mass., and Danvers, Mass., and later made her home again in St. Johnsbury. She was a member of the North Congregational Church, the Eastern Star, United Workers and the Women's Club. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Whittier Snow; her son, Harry Whittier Snow Jr.; her sisters, Kathleen Coombs and Mary Coombs; her half sister, Hazel Coombs; and two half brothers, Howard and Malcolm Coombs. She is survived by her children, William and Margaret Snow of Dundee, Ore., Sandra J. 64, of West Glover, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Junction. He was born in West Glover, Dec. 1, 1937, the son of the late Charles and Marie-Ange (Menard) Auger. Mr. Auger served with the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962. He returned to Vermont to the family dairy farm he operated for many years in West Glover. He was a member of the American Legion, Orleans Post 23. He leaves a sister, Jeannine Bruneau of Naugatuck, Conn.; a brother, Maurice Auger of Center Sandwich, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Roland, Jean-Claude and Raoul Auger; and two sisters, Jacqueline and Denise Auger. , 69, of Concord, Vt., died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital. He was born in St. Johnsbury, Jan. 11, 1933, the son of Earl Eastman and Kathleen Gallup. A graduate of St. Johnsbury Academy in 1951, Dick worked in construction, helping build the Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital and Fairbanks Scales, among many area projects. Richard also worked for Passumpsic Street Gulf, Bedard's Mobil, and several taxi companies in St. Johnsbury. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, loved his cars and NASCAR auto racing. Survivors include his mother, Kathleen Perrier of Lyndonville; five daughters, Janet L. and husband Rodney Lumbra and children Jaimee, Karey, Libbie, Brandon and Hillary of North Danville; Sherry L. Ward and children Lisa, Rachel and James Richard of Peacham; Stacia J. and husband Mark Bristol and children Amanda and Lucas of Kirby; Renette A. Davis and children Alicia, Danielle and Trevor of North Concord; and Jennifer L. Eastman and daughter Shania Kathleen of Concord; and a step-sister, Bette McCann of Boca Raton, Fla. , 85, passed away Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, at the Craftsbury Community Care Center, where he had lived for the past two years. He was born at the family farm in Craftsbury, Jan. 15, 1917, the son of Clarence and Annie (Shields) Urie. Albert served as an aircraft mechanic in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1942 to 1946, and shared many memories of his tour of duty. He was a lifelong member of the East Craftsbury United Presbyterian Church, and served on numerous committees in the church and community. His deep appreciation for music was shared singing in the church choir for over 60 years. On Aug. 19, 1950, he married his wife Marion. They shared their lives and Scottish heritage running Stillmeadow Farm. He had a deep love of the land and dedication to farming. He will be remembered as a man of character, wit and wisdom. Albert is survived by three children and their spouses, Bruce and Betty Urie of Craftsbury, Gina and Alan Frey of Williston, and Lucy Urie of Morrisville; grandchildren Sarah, Amanda, Tim and Heather Urie, and Kevin and Alison Frey; a sister, Margaret Brown; and a brother, Ralph Urie. He was predeceased by his wife Marion; a sister, Esther Urie; and brothers Carl and Donald Urie. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 12, at 1 p.m., at the East Craftsbury Presbyterian Church. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Mr. Witte had been a ship master/captain of sea and river vessels hauling freight and oil for many years. He and his wife, Joanna (Armstrong) Witte, moved from Dorchester, N.J., to Burke in 1965. For 14 years, he served as the nutrition director of the Area Agency on Aging in St. Johnsbury. He was a member of the Third Congregational Church in East St. Johnsbury, was past president of the Burke Mountain Club, past president of the Caledonia Forest and Stream Club in St. Johnsbury, and a member of Williamson-Corinthian Masonic Lodge 368. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, boating, gardening and horseback riding. Survivors include his wife, Joanna Witte of Burke Hollow; two daughters, Esther Catling and husband Arthur of Medford, N.J., and Phyllis Culley of Millville, N.J.; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and his sister-in-law, Flavia Witte of Pennsylvania. He was predeceased by his first wife, Harriet (Rogers) Witte in 1960; his son, Roger Witte in 1982; his brother, Herman Witte; and his sister, Bertha Hight. He was born Nov. 21, 1918 in St. Johnsbury, the son of the late Henry and Flora (Barclay) Stetson. He graduated from Tilton Prep School in 1937, and served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He then farmed for 17 years, worked at the Saunders Saw Mill, and then at McLarens Farm Equipment from 1964 until he retired in 1980. , 79, of Stafford Springs, Conn., Miles Pond, Vt., and Treasure Island, Fla., passed away at Evergreen Health Care Center, Stafford Springs, Conn., Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, from complications of Alzheimer's disease. She was born in St. Johnsbury, Sept. 24, 1923, to Gordon and Orlena Morrison. She attended a one-room school in North Danville, and graduated in 1941 from Danville High, where she was active on the basketball team. She was employed at French and Bean and St. Johnsbury Trucking before marrying Paul Cutting on Oct. 9, 1949. She was a talented singer and played the piano and organ. Her lovely soprano voice was welcome in Methodist church choirs wherever her husband's job transfers took them. She sang in Grace Methodist Church in St. Johnsbury and churches in New Britain, North Granby and Vernon, Conn., and South Pasadena, Fla. She was an avid gardener and an accomplished seamstress, making quilts, knitting, and doing needlework that is treasured by her four children. Above all, she was a devoted wife and mother and proud of her four children. Frances is survived by her husband Paul; daughter Leah of St. Petersburg, Fla., son Jeffrey and wife Karen of Thonotassas, Fla., son Clifford and wife Betsy of Stafford Springs, Conn., and daughter Joyce and husband Tom Odonnell of Westford, Mass.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and three sisters-in-law, Rose Morrison of Lady Lake, Fla., Priscilla Ward and husband Robert of Fairfax, Vt., and Betty Sargent of Gilman, Vt. , 80, of Washing Street, Berlin, N.H., died peacefully at his home Thursday morning, Oct. 10, 2002. Mr. Lurvey was born in Island Pond, April 6, 1922, the son of Omer and Ruth (Hobbs) Lurvey. Wayne was raised in Island Pond and resided in Stark for 12 years and has been in Berlin for the past 35 years. He worked all his life on the railroad and was employed with Canadian National and Berlin Mill Railways. He retired at 70 years of age. He served the U.S. Army with the 2nd Armored Division in the European Theater during World War II. Family members include his wife, Eleanor "Jean" (Kenison) Lurvey of Berlin, N.H.; five sons, Wayne Lurvey Carleton of Florida, Brian Lurvey of Deering, N.H., Mark O. Lurvey of Colchester, Vt., Roy Lurvey of Tennessee, David Lurvey of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a daughter, Elizabeth Schaffer of Springfield, Mo.; a sister, Muriel Webb of Island Pond; several grandchildren; nieces and nephews. , 74, of North Grove Street, Rutland, Vt., died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at his home after an extended illness with cancer. Mr. Snyder was born in New York City, N.Y., May 25, 1928, the son of Henry M. Snyder of New York City and Hale A. Snyder of Townsend, Mont. He was especially proud that his mother had been born in Montana Territory. He loved Vermont and always flew the U.S. "Betsy Ross" flag and the Vermont and Montana state flags at his home. He is survived by his partner, Marilyn Sura of Rutland; daughters, Nanci of Ligny, Belgium, Lisa of Carlisle, Mass., and Susan of Burlington, Vt.; sons, Mark of Greensboro, Peter of West Glover, Carlo of Hanover, N.H., and Robert of Norwich, Vt.; three grandchildren, Averill and Reid of West Glover, and Sophia of Carlisle, Mass.; and three dogs and cats including the faithful Ginger, a chocolate lab who accompanied him almost everywhere. He especially loved his children and sharing their individual successes. Dick had a varied, active and interesting employment career beginning with two years of college; then working as a police reporter for the White Plains, N.Y. Reporter Dispatch; two years of service in the Army Signal Corps in an experimental television unit, and newspaper editor of the Millerton, N.Y. News Republican, a weekly. He was also a builder, specializing in the restoration of old homes in Lakeville, Salisbury and West Cornwall, Conn.; first national manager of passenger service for the National Railroad Passenger Corp., employee No. 170; operator of a tourist railroad in Proctor, Vt., and the long distance rail travel cruise unit Tour Train; and machine tool and manufacturing consultant for the Vermont Marble Co. of Proctor. He was project manager for the rebuilding of the Mountain Top Inn in Chittenden, Vt.; and construction and maintenance vice president for Sherburne Associates, the major commercial property, hotel and boat basin owner on Nantucket Island, Mass. He was vice president of operations for a 1,000-unit mixed-use commercial and residential project in Washington, D.C., in an area burned out during the Martin Luther King riots; restorer of the Lincoln Theater on 14th Street in Washington, and project manager of restoration for an Art Deco commercial building which won an AIA award for historical preservation. He was manufacturing and field construction general manager for Advanced Building Systems in Bennington, Vt., a Swedish-owned panelized building company featuring American design with Swedish heat conservation techniques; owner of Proctor Prestain, which stained exterior wood products for buildings before application to the structure, and also made screen measurement tapes for surveyor's stadia rods for J.K. Adams Co. in Dorset, and natural wood ski tuning benches for a national mail order catalogue featuring ski equipment. He created Memories in Miniature, finely crafted natural wood miniature buildings in New England styles, sold through the Vermont State Craft Center outlets in Middlebury and Burlington, and galleries in Woodstock, Wilmington and Bennington. For several years he was general manager of Danforth Pewterers in Middlebury, Vt., and later general manager of Holy Cow, Inc., the company name for Middlebury artist Woody Jackson, also a respected and cherished friend. For Holy Cow, Dick manufactured the large wooden cut-out painted cows. He was also a project consultant and manufacturer of selected point of sale products for Cabot Creamery. For the past 15 years, Dick was a home inspector in partnership with his son Peter, specializing in first time home buyers. He had the most loyal and supportive group of realtors and bank loan officers one could wish for. He personally inspected more than 6,000 homes. Mrs. Garand was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church. Yvonne had worked in food service in various places, including Brightlook Hospital, NVRH, Maple Grove and Dunkin' Donuts. She was born in Holland, Vt., Jan. 19, 1911, the daughter of Foster and Maude (Smith) Woodard. Mrs. Provoncha dedicated her life to her family, and she enjoyed reading, gardening and needlework. Survivors include seven children, Stanley Provoncha and wife Marge of Medical Lake, Wash., Madeline and husband Willard Dickson of Hardwick, June Provoncha of Palm Bay, Fla., Dale Provoncha and wife Sharon of Westfield, Wayne Provoncha and wife Louise of Newport, Shirley and husband Everett Achilles of St. Johnsbury, and Larry Provoncha and wife Carmelita of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; one brother, Fred Woodard and wife Alva of Colebrook, N.H.; two sisters, Hattie McGivern and Ruby Cole, both of Newport; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Provoncha, Oct. 12, 1993; and by three children, Dorothy Provoncha Hayes, Margaret, and Rodney. , 62, a resident of Harvest Hills Drive, North Bennington, died unexpectedly Saturday evening, Oct. 12, 2002, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. Born in Pittsfield, Mass., April 11, 1940, he was the son of Joseph N. and Gertrude (Clark) Talbot. He grew up in Lee, Mass., where he attended Lee Grammar School and graduated from Lee High School. He continued his education at New England College, graduating in 1963 with a degree in civil engineering. He was married to Birgit Rasmussen in Floral Park, Long Island, N.Y., Feb. 11, 1961. For a short time they resided in Virginia, where Mr. Talbot worked for the Chicago Pneumatic Company. They relocated to Vermont in 1965, settling in St. Johnsbury. Mr. Talbot then began a 34-year career with the Vermont Department of Transportation. Moving to North Bennington in 1986, he became the district administrator for District 1, retiring Jan. 28, 2000. While living in St. Johnsbury, Mr. Talbot had been active in the Moose Lodge, Elks Club, Knights of Columbus, and had served as president of the Lions Club. At the time of his death he was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church and past president of the Norshaft Lions Club. Always an outdoorsman, he was an avid hunter and fisherman who thoroughly enjoyed what nature had to offer. He enjoyed his frequent trips to Alaska, where he maintained a second home. Having been afflicted with diabetes, he became an advocate in the quest to understand more about the disease and its control; for many years he volunteered in the Tour de Cure; being afflicted with the disease gave him a deep appreciation for the gift of life. He is survived by his wife, Birgit M. Talbot of North Bennington; two sons, Jeffrey Talbot and wife Anna of Danville, and Daniel Talbot and wife Brenna of Sterling, Alaska; two daughters, Deborah Talbot of Waterbury and Jacqueline Tennyson and husband James of Brattleboro; a sister, Margaret E. Lockenwitz of Lee, Mass.; and his grandchildren, Brodie, Kayla, Erin, Elisa, Blaine, Destiny and Kathryn. He was predeceased by a brother who died in infancy. , 86, of Cook Road, Irasburg, passed away in Newport, Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002. He was born in Irasburg, May 1, 1916, the son of Harry and Alice (Downing) Cook. In 1933 he married the former Velma Herman, who predeceased him June 1, 2000. They farmed for 44 years at their farm between Coventry and Orleans, where they raised their family. They also did some sugaring. Alvin was a member and past master of the Irasburg Masonic Lodge 62; was a committee man for the ASCS; a former lister and auditor for the town of Irasburg, and a member of the Irasburg United Church, where he served on several committees and was extremely active in the annual church fair. Alvin was an avid gardener and enjoyed going dancing with Velma. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Alvin's life can best be described as being a giver, and he enjoyed helping others. He was a member of the Littleton Fire Department for 30 years, retiring as chief in 1986. He also worked for many years for Houle Electrical as an electrician. Not choosing to be idle, during his off hours at the fire department he served as a custodian at People's Bank, the Opera Block and Littleton Savings Bank for many years. He also was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and was a member of the VFW Howard Shawney Post. Following his retirement from fire service he worked for 11 years at the Cannon Mountain Ski Area in various capacities. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia (Champagne) MacKay of Littleton; three sons, Dennis MacKay of Lancaster, David MacKay of Littleton, and Darius MacKay of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert MacKay of Littleton; and a sister, Jenny Champagne of Franconia. Paul served in the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. He graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy and attended St. Michael's College and the University of Vermont. She was born May 24, 1907, in Delmont, N.J., the daughter of the late George and Rosetta (Stephenson) Armstrong. From 1924-1927 Joanna completed her nurses training at Newcomb Hospital in Vineland, N.J., becoming a registered nurse. She worked many years at the Millville, N.J., hospital. Joanna was a member of the Shekinah Chapter 82 Order of Eastern Star of New Jersey, where she was past matron and also served as past worthy district deputy. She was very active in her church, serving as Sunday School superintendent and teacher in New Jersey and West Burke for many years. She and her husband Fritz Witte moved from Dorchester, N.J., to Burke in 1965. Joanna enjoyed working in her flower gardens, hunting, fishing and camping. Survivors include two daughters, Esther Catling and husband Arthur of Medford, N.J., and Phyllis Culley of Millville, N.J.; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two nieces, Evelyn Errickson of Goshen, N.J., and Joann Thompson of Ocean City, N.J.; and numerous great- and great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fritz Witte, Oct. 9, 2002; her first husband, John W. Reeves; her second husband, Herbert W. , 95, of Rehoboth Beach, Del., died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002 at her home. She was born July 20, 1907 in Wilmington, Del., to the late Joseph and Agnes Woerner. Mrs. Woerner resided in the Wilmington area for most of her life, moving to Rehoboth Beach in 1973. She was a homemaker and graduate of Wilmington High School, where she was salutatorian of her class. Mrs. Allmond was also a graduate of Goldey Beacom Business College in Wilmington. She worked as a secretary before her marriage and enjoyed needlecraft, gardening and traveling, but her true passion was her family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her. Mrs. Allmond is survived by three daughters and one son-in-law, Marguerite Racaniello of Largo, Fla., Jean Johns of Rehoboth Beach, and Susan and Paul Rowe of West Burke, Vt.; four grandsons, Michael Allmond Johns of Eugene, Ore., David Charles Johns and wife Janet of Elkridge, Md., Daniel Foster Johns and wife Sheila of Melbourne, Fla., and Robert Douglas Johnson and wife Imelda of the Philippines; eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. 94, of 203 Spring St., St. Johnsbury, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002. He was born in Morrisville, Sept. 1, 1908, the son of Frederick and Minnie (Wells) Silloway. He graduated from People's Academy in 1927 as class president and was captain of the basketball team. He married Pauline Emma Brown in 1930. Mr. Silloway was employed at Prudential Life Insurance Company from 1930 to 1968, receiving numerous presidential citations. He was a member of the South Congregational Church, former member of the Morrisville Masons, and a former member of the St. Johnsbury Kiwanis Club, where he served on the swimming pool construction committee. He summered on Echo Lake in East Charleston for 48 years. He is survived by four sons, Dr. Frederick Silloway and wife Nilda of St. Johnsbury, Carroll Silloway and wife Linere of Moodus, Conn., Peter Silloway of Tampa, Fla., and David Silloway of Lyndonville; five grandchildren, Frederick's three daughters, Deborah Jones, Esq., of St. Johnsbury, Dr. Katherine Silloway of St. Johnsbury, and Dr. Kimberly Silloway of Fairfax, Va., and Carroll's two children, Rhonda Silloway Cunningham of Florida and Craig Silloway of Moodus, Conn.; and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Pauline, Oct. 1, 1991; his sister, Carrie Bell Lawson; his brother, Carroll Silloway; his sister-in-law, Esther DeColaines; and his brother-in-law, Frederick Brown. Mrs. Atkinson worked for Groveton Papers Co. for many years, retiring in 1974. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church in Groveton. She was fond of baking, sewing and loved sugar on snow parties. Survivors include her daughter and husband, Joan and Guy Davenport of Naples, Fla.; a brother and wife, Allen and Dorothy Caldwell of Memphis, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Lois Schoolcraft of Puntagorda, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, D. She was the daughter of Harvey and Edna (Olney) Perkins and a sister to Stanley, Wallace, Gilbert and Roland Perkins. The family moved to Danville in 1920 and Isabelle attended local schools. On March 30, 1929, Isabelle married Russell John Mann, who preceded her in death, and they raised three children, Marion I. (Mrs. George) Shirlock of East Barre, Albert R. Mann of Oliver Springs, Tenn., and Gilbert D. Mann of St. Johnsbury, who will deeply miss her. She is survived by 11 grandchildren, Gail Strachan, Milton Shirlock, Gary Shirlock, Melissa Conti, Michael Mann, John Mann, Harold Mann, Debra Smejkal, Stefanie Sander, Jeffrey Mann and Gretchen Engbertson; 16 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and a cousin. Isabelle was a faithful member of the Grace Methodist Church for many years. She also committed time and service over the years to the Eastern Star Chapter 29, the Olive Branch Rebekah Lodge 4, and was past matron of the Order of Eastern Star. , 25, of Mann's Hill Road, Littleton, N.H., died at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, after a long battle with malignant melanoma diagnosed in the fourth stage. This beautiful life began May 20, 1977 in Littleton, N.H, born a daughter to Pierre and Denise (Hecker) Lafitte. Nicole graduated from Littleton High School in 1995, and earned a bachelor of science degree in exercise science from Colby Sawyer College in New London, N.H. Throughout her short life, Nicole loved, was loved by and inspired many people. Consistently kind, sincere and generous, Nicole was a friend to all. Her love for life was contagious. She lived by a single quote: "Real winners are ordinary people with extraordinary determination." Her two true loves were running and basketball. Nicole could always be found running in a race or on a basketball court. Nicole is survived by her father and mother, Pierre and Denise Lafitte; two sisters, Danielle Lafitte Cook of Littleton, and Janine Lafitte Gilboy of Arlington, Mass.; one brother, Jon Lafitte of Littleton; a niece, Emma Kate; a nephew, Gavin Charles Cook; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. , 79, of Baldwin Street, Franklin, N.H., formerly of Lakeport, N.H., died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002 at Genesis Eldercare Network-Mtn. Ridge Center in Franklin. He was born July 30, 1923 in St. Johnsbury, the son of Trudell and Avis (Lawrence) Briggs. Wendell grew up and lived in the East Concord and St. Johnsbury areas. He moved to Tilton, N.H. in 1964. He cared deeply for his children and family; he had a proud work ethic beginning with a private egg business in his teens. He worked at the long-defunct Chair Factory in St. Johnsbury, was a long distance driver for St. Johnsbury Trucking Company, owned his own logging business for many years and was a skilled heavy equipment operator both in the St. Johnsbury and Laconia, N.H. areas. Wendell was a "jack of all trades." During "mud season," Wendell often worked as a carpenter specializing in remodeling and updating kitchens, and as a plumber for Brooks Plumbing and Heating. Wendell was a very hard and dependable worker. Wendell's interests included hunting and fishing, boating and dancing. He enjoyed camping and traveling, having visited all but two states in the United States and Mexico. When camping, his favorite activity was cooking which included "baked in the ground" dinners like bean hole beans, lobster and clam bakes, and even roast turkey. Survivors include a son, Donald Briggs of Rutland, Vt.; two daughters, Shirley Briggs of Monroe, N.H., and Ruth Briggs of Charlotte, N.C.; five grandchildren, Herbert Little of East Burke, Vt., Anita Drown of North Concord, Vt., Teresa Litchfield of Goffstown, N.H., Todd Fenoff of Mooresville, N.C., Dominic Parker of Mooresville, N.C.; three great-grandchildren; many nephews and nieces; his first wife, Charlena (Powell) McDufford; and his former wife, Barbara Briggs of Lakeport, N.H. , 64, of Essex Junction, Vt., succumbed to a sudden illness, surrounded by his family, Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002 at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. He was born in St. Johnsbury, Aug. 13, 1938, to Kenneth E. and Reta Marie (Howe) Morse. On his 11th birthday the family moved to the Old Prue Road, where he grew up. Dick attended local schools and graduated from the St. Johnsbury Trade School, where he majored in electronics. After graduating, he married Carol Lee Burns and was employed by Conrad Allerie TV shop in Burlington. He served in the Vt. Army National Guard for eight years in St. Johnsbury and Burlington. He eventually moved to Shelburne, where he began his own TV repair shop and raised his family. Dick later was remarried, to Vivian Rae Haire, and began working at IBM. He had been there for eight years, excelled in his job and enjoyed his work. Dick loved to travel to warm destinations where he could see palm trees, the ocean, and absorb the warm weather. He also enjoyed flying. He loved his family and friends very much and will be sadly missed. He is survived by his mother, Reta Morse; his wife of seven years, Vivian Morse; his daughters, Kathy Albair and husband Joe, and Julie Cartularo and husband Kenny; his son, Ricky Morse and fiancee Renee LaPier; his brother, Robert Morse and wife Marie; his three stepchildren, Robin Stratton and husband Ken, Kim Martin and husband Tom, and Pat Haire and fiancee Kun; 12 grandchildren; and several cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Kenneth; one niece and one nephew. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, at 2 p.m., in the First Congregational Church of Essex Junction. Later she worked for Fairbanks Morse Co. in St. Johnsbury, and then worked many years for the Vermont Department of Social Welfare in St. Johnsbury until her retirement. She is survived by a brother and his family, Wayne Fuller and wife Kate, and their son Andrew of Kentucky; and her close friend, Mrs. Vernice Minor of St. Johnsbury Center. Jean was an avid yard saler, and loved to cook and entertain people. She enjoyed traveling and camping, and went on several cruises. Jean was very artistic and was involved in craft sales along with making crafts for family members. She was very devoted to her family. Her dog Heidi was a source of great enjoyment to her. For the past 10 years she was a nurses aide at the Glencliff Home for the Elderly, and also had been a paraprofessional with special needs students at the Haverhill Cooperative Middle School. She was born in Groton, Jan. 30, 1909, the daughter of Lee and Caroline Knight (Morrison) Somers. She graduated from Peacham Academy and went on to graduate from Becker Business College in Boston. Upon graduation in 1933, she went to work for the Barnard Roofing Company of Worcester, Mass., and later became the office manager. She married Charles Gormley Aug. 16, 1941, and spent most of her life in Worcester, returning to Vermont following Charles' death in January 1978. She will be greatly missed by her extended family upon whom she showered her time and talents. Other interests of Mrs. Gormley included the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs, genealogy, crocheting, music, especially playing the harmonica, and travel, especially by car, and keeping impeccable records of each trip. , 78, of Bloomfield, VT, passed away Monday morning, Oct. 21, 2002, at the Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton. She had been in residence at Maple Lane since 1997, after being stricken with Alzheimer's disease. Mrs. Nugent was born June 16, 1924 in Brunswick, VT, the daughter of Roy Edward and Charlotte (Marshall) Smith. She attended grammar school in Bloomfield, and was a graduate of North Stratford High School, North Stratford, NH. After high school she attended Keene State Nursing School in Keene, NH. Mrs. Nugent married Robert Hapgood Nugent in February 1946. She served as the substitute town nurse for the towns of Bloomfield and North Stratford for many years. Additionally, she served as the deputy town clerk, and on the school board for the town of Bloomfield. During the 1960s and '70s she was employed by the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook, NH. Mrs. Nugent loved the outdoors and spent many hours picking berries, gardening and working on various projects. She was an excellent homemaker and took great enjoyment knitting, sewing and canning the many fruits and vegetables she had picked. Mrs. Nugent was very community-oriented, always providing for those in need. But she will best be remembered for her smiling face, giving spirit and friendly manner; friends and strangers alike were always welcome at her dinner table. She is survived by four children, son George Nugent of Bloomfield and his daughter Jamie Nugent; daughter Nancy Nugent Kaza of Shelburne, husband Paul and children Eric and Kristen Kaza; son Edward Nugent of St. Johnsbury, wife LeNora and children Benjamin and Sarah; and son John Nugent of Bloomfield and children Michael, John, Nathan and Timothy; and three brothers, Howard Smith of New York, NY, Earl Smith of Oklahoma, and Harold Smith of Brunswick. Mrs. Nugent was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Robert Hapgood Nugent, in 1997; and by a brother, Edward. The family will conduct graveside services Saturday, Nov. 2, at 11 a.m., at the Bloomfield Cemetery in Bloomfield.

, 93, of 51 Cross Ave., St. Johnsbury, died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at the Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury, after a brief illness. She was born in Groton, Jan. 30, 1909, the daughter of Lee and Caroline Knight (Morrison) Somers. She graduated from Peacham Academy and went on to graduate from Becker Business College in Boston. Upon graduation in 1933, she went to work for the Barnard Roofing Company of Worcester, Mass., and later became the office manager. She married Charles Gormley Aug. 16, 1941, and spent most of her life in Worcester, returning to Vermont following Charles' death in January 1978. She will be greatly missed by her extended family, upon whom she showered her time and talents. Other interests of Mrs. Gormley included the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs, genealogy, crocheting, music, especially playing the harmonica, and travel, especially by car, and keeping impeccable records of each trip. Surviving relatives include two sisters, Gwendolen Hagen, formerly of Peacham and currently of St. Johnsbury, and Ruth Chandler of Groton and Florida; two brothers, Dwight Somers of Northfield, Vt., and K. Gilmore Somers and wife Virginia of West Barnet; nieces and nephews, John and wife Helen Somers, Elaine Somers, Marilyn Petrie, Lee and Patricia Hagen, Gayle Hatch, Albert and Bea Hagen, Harry and Judith Chandler, Maxine and Lawrence Luongo, Donna and Rodney Ferguson, Lauren and Sue Murray, Cheryl Murray, Donlin Murray, Jodie Murray, Vern and Darlene Murray, Karl Lee and Nancy Jurentkuff, Jerold and Sharon Jurentkuff, Jon and Jill Morrill, Darwin and Joanne Jurentkuff, Marcy and Gene Myers, Mallary and Robert Hacking, Gilmore and Cora Somers, Carrie and Harold Dunbar, Lee Paul Somers, Jeffrey and Kris Somers; and many more great-grand-nieces and -nephews; and the Barnard family, for whom she worked from 1933 to 1978, Walter and Janet, Terry, Susan and Geoffry Landin, Whitney and Jodie, and Phoebe. , 68, of Cahoon Farm Road in Walden, passed away at his home late Friday evening, Oct. 18, 2002. He was born in Cape May Courthouse, N.J., Nov. 19, 1933, the son of Walter and Gladys (Adams) Entriken. Walter married his high school sweetheart, Dolores Laub. They created Rama Unique Enamels some 35 years ago and moved their business to West Danville, where they had a studio and gift shop with their children. Dolores predeceased Walter on May 7, 1997. Walter enjoyed serving the town of Walden as selectman for 10 years. The town featured him on the cover of their 1997 Town Report. He will be lovingly remembered by his four children, Michael Entriken of Walden, Jane Entriken of St. Johnsbury, Philip Entriken of Walden and Paul Entriken of Danville, and their families. , 60, of 203 Powder Spring Road, Groton, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, at his residence following a long illness. He was born in Woodsville, Jan. 12, 1942, a son of Phyllis Willey and George "Jim" Oliver. He graduated from Newbury High School in 1960 and was a self-employed logger, carpenter and jack of all trades. He previously had served for two years as the Groton road agent. Harry attended the Groton United Methodist Church and Men's Club, and was an active volunteer in the Groton Fall Foliage Festival. The love of Harry's life was his family and especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed maple sugaring and farming his property with his family, as well as hunting. He also enjoyed time spent camping and snowmobile riding, and was a member of the Border Riders. He also worked on the Cracker Barrel Bazaar in Newbury, and was a member of the Newbury Softball League. He was a regular member of the Groton coffee group that would assemble at the Groton General Store. He married Pauline Emerson March 10, 1963. Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Pauline of Groton; two sons, Todd W. Oliver and wife Kimberly of Middletown, Conn., and Troy A. Oliver and wife Julie of Groton; two daughters, Shelley R. Towle and husband David of Danville, and Brenda L. Nurse and husband Clyde of Groton; his mother, Phyllis Hood of East Concord, Vt.; 10 grandchildren, Stefan, Alyssa, Steven, Nicholas, Kayla, Kaity, Andrew, Benjamin, Logan and Tynika; two brothers, George W. Oliver Jr. of Newbury, and John S. Oliver of East Concord; five sisters, Marion Deschamp of East Haven, Vt., Marjorie Salomaa of Waits River, Vt., Betty Lyndes of Florida, Nancy Bean of Saratoga, N.Y., and Phyllis "Tamy" Minshull of St. Johnsbury; his stepmother, Blanche Oliver of Newbury; four step-brothers, Robert Wheeler, Steve Wheeler, James Wheeler and Tony Wheeler; five step-sisters, Donna Lufkin, Betty Emerson, Mary Smith, Josephine Rivera and Nancy Underhill; several nieces, nephews and cousins; his mother-in-law and family, Beatrice Emerson, the Ralph Emerson family, Royce Emerson family, David Emerson family, Kendall Emerson family, Peter Emerson family, and Mary Grant family. , 65, of East Hardwick, died suddenly, Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002 in Morrisville. Born Aug. 19, 1937 in Hartford, Conn., he was the son of Vernon and Willimina (Rogers) Twing. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1960, when he was honorably discharged. Before retirement he had worked for Cabot Creamery, Pratt & Whitney of Connecticut and the New Haven Railroad of Connecticut. He was an avid gardener with a great vegetable and flower garden. He had a great sense of humor and loved his retirement. He is survived by his beloved wife Priscilla (Modica) Twing; a daughter, Patricia Malowski of Stowe; a son, Roger Twing Jr. of East Hardwick; and three wonderful grandsons, who were so much a part of his life, Timothy, Logan and Kyle. His grandsons were his pride and joy. His parents and brother, Bruce Twing, predeceased him. The family will receive friends Saturday, Oct. 26, from 10 a.m. to noon, when a prayer service will be held at the des Groseilliers Funeral Home, on Church Street in Hardwick. , 72, of Guildhall, formerly of the Dummer and Berlin, N.H., area, passed away Thursday evening, Oct. 24, 2002, at his residence on U.S. Route 102 in Guildhall. He was born Nov. 23, 1929, in Berlin, N.H., the son of Willis and Tena Tucker Forbush. A resident of the Guildhall area most of his life, Mr. Forbush was a member of the Methodist Church of Lancaster. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a truck driver for St. Johnsbury Trucking Co., and for James River Corp. of Groveton, N.H. He was also self-employed as a woodcutter up to the present time. He was a family man who cherished his grandchildren. He was an avid lover of the Northwoods, and enjoyed berry picking. He had a love for fast cars, candy and junk food, which he shared along with his grandchildren. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Air Force. His wife, Harriet Forbush, died in 1997. He is survived by three daughters, Doreen Hartshorn and husband Brian of Whitefield, N.H., Donna Goodhue and husband Dennis of St. Johnsbury, and Jennie Stein of Short Gap, W.Va.; eight grandchildren, Tracy Stein, Shawn Stein, Jeremy Hartshorn, Meredith Hartshorn, Lynsey Hartshorn, Dennis Goodhue, James Goodhue and Jennifer Goodhue; one brother, Robert Forbush of Plymouth, N.H.; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Monday, Oct. 28 at 11 a.m. at the Fleury-Patry Funeral Chapel, 72 High St., Berlin, NH 03570. , 91, of Sunrise Manor, Island Pond, died peacefully, Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002 in Newport. He was born Feb. 1, 1911, in Island Pond, a son of James and Elizabeth (Nolan) Weatherstone. On May 26, 1935, he married Virginia Springer, who predeceased him. Mr. Weatherstone was a foreman for the Canadian National Railroad, and he was also a projectionist for the former Roxie Theatre in Island Pond for many years. He was a veteran of World War II. He was commander and charter member of the VFW Post 2309 and was also commander and life member of American Legion Post 80 of Island Pond. Mr. Weatherstone was an avid fisherman and hunter, and enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox. He was warden for the Christ Episcopal Church in Island Pond for 50 years. He is survived by three children, Harry Weatherstone and wife Yvette of Island Pond, Melody Twombly of Lyndonville, and Laurie Weatherstone of Derby; six grandchildren, Sean Twombly and wife Stacey, Kevin Twombly and wife Heather, Terri Bergshnerder and husband Chris, Nathan Rivers, Kelley Rivers and Chad Letourneau; three great-grandchildren, Brandon, Benjamin and Knight; a brother, Kalvin Weatherstone and wife Laura of Island Pond; and a sister, Grace Hurley of North Stratford, N.H. He was predeceased by a sister, Phila Russell. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 2, at 11 a.m., at the Christ Episcopal Church in Island Pond, with the Rev. Garrett Keizer officiating. , 71, of Cabot, died Friday evening, Oct. 25, 2002, at the Berlin Medical Center. He was born Dec. 21, 1930 in Greensboro, the son of Everett and Mary (Lyford) Walbridge. He attended Danville and Cabot public schools, and graduated from Cabot High School, Class of 1950. On May 25, 1952, he married Lenna Carr in South Walden. He was a self-employed dairy farmer for many years. He was a Cabot school bus driver, and during the summer months he drove bus for Camp Laughing Turtle in Cabot. He was a member of the United Church of Cabot; a member and past master of the Green Mountain Lodge 68 F & AM of Cabot; a member and past patron of the Green Mountain Chapter 35 OES of Cabot; and a grand representative to Saskatchewan, B.C.; and a member of the Cabot Neighborhood Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the children on his bus route. He was the 2002 recipient of the Cabot Community Service Award. Survivors include three sons, Lester Walbridge of Cabot, Dale Walbridge of Groton, and Wendell Walbridge of Hardwick; two daughters, Marilyn Smith of Longwood, Fla., and Joann Allen of Cabot; nine grandchildren; three sisters, Frances Walbridge, Linda Walbridge and Aileen Byers, all of Cabot; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife Lenna; an infant daughter; an infant son; and a granddaughter. A native of Littleton, Raymond was born Jan. 30, 1931, a son to Warren and Lena (Gilbert) Ash. Raymond was a foreman for the Lisbon Shoe Company, a foreman at Henschel Shoe Company, and retired from Norton Pike Company in 1994. He was a member of the American Legion, the Gold Wing Touring Association, and the Lisbon Stump Jumpers. Surviving family members include his wife of 40 years, Carol (Chase) Ash of Littleton; a son, Raymond R. Ash Jr. and fiance Linda Dominguez of Bethlehem, Pa.; a daughter, Cynthia Sargentelli of Worcester, Mass.; an adopted daughter, Diane Dick of Littleton; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sons, Steven and Robert; a daughter, Marilyn; two brothers, Roger and George Ash; and two sisters, Elsie Bishop and Thelma Ash. , 80, of Orleans, beloved husband of Florence "Sally" Kipp Leibold, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002. He was born in Queens Village N.Y., Dec. 10, 1921, the son of Charles and Florence (Simon) Leibold. As a young child he suffered from polio, which, with the special help of his grandmother, he was able to overcome enough so he participated in high school sports, including basketball. He married Helen Benner and to that union was born their son, Robert. They made their home in Smithtown and Point Lookout, Long Island, N.Y., while Charlie was an advertising executive in New York City. After the death of his wife Helen in 1972, Charlie spent more and more time at Willoughby Lake in Westmore, where he will be remembered as the first Sunfish sailor on the lake. He later met and married Florence "Sally" Kipp, who survives him. Charlie was a member of both the Westmore Community Church and the Orleans Federated Church. He leaves his wife Sally of Orleans; a son, the Rev. Dr. Robert Leibold and wife Ilse of Bayville, N.Y.; a grandson, John, and granddaughter, Mary, both of Bayville, N.Y.; and Sally's family, Steve Kipp of Irasburg, Larry Kipp of Newport, and Martha Lanham of West Enola, Pa.; and her grandchildren, Greta, John and Justin Kipp. Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 1 p.m., at the Orleans Federated Church, with the Rev. Walter was born May 25, 1919 in Whitefield, a son to Charles and Carrie (Aldrich) Parker. He attended schools in Lyman before going on to serve in the U.S. Army as a military policeman at Fort Bliss, Texas. He married Florence (Merchant) Parker on May 20, 1978. Walter worked for the state of New Hampshire and New England Wire Company; he preferred the simple life. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working on his woodpile, and visiting with his Lyman neighbors. Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Florence; a stepdaughter, Alice and husband Fred Hunt of Sugar Hill; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Laura was active in the community and a member of the Franconia Church of Christ Service Guild. She was a homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She married Robert C. McLachlin on Feb. 7, 1936 in Lisbon, N.H. Surviving family members include a daughter, Mary McLachlin Sanborn of Franconia; two sons, Robert S. McLachlin, and Richard E. She was born in South Ryegate, May 23, 1918, a daughter of Eugenio and Emma (Rose) Chiaradia. She was a graduate of Woodsville High School, Class of 1936, and the Mary Fletcher School of Nursing in Burlington. She worked as a registered nurse from 1948 to 1973 at the Coney Island Hospital in New York City. She moved from New Jersey to Woodsville in 1998 to be close to the family. She was predeceased by her husband, Anthony, in 1981; her brother, Eugene D. Chiaradia, in 1982; and a sister, Corinne Chiaradia, in 1998. She is survived by two sisters, Olga Zampieri of Woodsville, and Stella Chiaradia of Louisville, Ky.; and three nieces. There will be no calling hours. She was born Sept. 24, 1920 in East Fairfield, Vt., the daughter of James and Bessie (Corcoran) Flynn. A graduate of St. Johnsbury Academy, Class of 1939, she married Basil "Pete" Darling in 1940. She spent many happy years at "The Circle" community at Comerford Dam in East Barnet. Jean was a friendly, caring person who cherished her family and friends, always ready to lend an ear or a hand to anyone in need. She was predeceased by her husband Basil in 1997, and her brother Francis in 1977. She is survived by four sons, Greg Darling and wife Marianne of Littleton, Chris Darling and wife Evelyn of Swanton, VT, Gary Darling and wife Wendy of Barnet, and Mathew Darling and wife Bonnie of St. Johnsbury; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. 77, of East Burke, passed away peacefully at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital, Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002. Dewey was born in Rawles Township, IA, March 4, 1925 to Edith and Glenn Seeger. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a retired schoolteacher, having taught many years in the St. Johnsbury School District. At the time of his death he was the caretaker/gardener at the Burke Mountain Club House in East Burke. Dewey had a passion for gardening. He enjoyed not only his plants, but feeding the birds, reading and the daily crossword puzzles. Dewey will be missed by Sue Henry, Doreen Yerkes, Trenny Rob and many other friends. He was predeceased by his parents and a sister. He is survived by his brother, Howard Seeger of California, and his cat Genieve. There will be no services, at his request.
