, 86, of St. Johnsbury, died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury after a year of declining health. She was born in Guildhall, Dec. 18, 1915, the daughter of Fred and Celia (Ball) Ford. Mrs. Keenan taught school in Ryegate, Kirby and Barnet for many years. She was a member of the Teacher's Association, Eastern Star and East Barnet Congregational Church. Survivors include two children and their spouses, Frederick "Fred" and Donna (Verge) Keenan of Danville, and Judith and John Trombley of Colchester; two brothers, Fred and wife Vonny Ford of Bangor, Maine, and Chandler Ford of Guildhall; four grandchildren, Jennifer Fredette and husband Eric, Jeffery Trombley and wife Cathy, Jason Keenan and wife Rachel, Justin Keenan and wife Melanie; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Morris S. Keenan, Feb. 10, 1980, and a sister, Barbara Duffey, in 1999. , 83, of Russellville Road, Westfield, Mass., died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002 at Noble Hospital in Westfield. Born in Plymouth, N.H., May 20, 1919, he was the son of the late Perley Ray and Esther May (Commette) LaBay. He attended schools in Lyndon, Vt., and graduated from Lyndon Institute. He was a retired machinist for Tell Tool Inc. of Westfield, Mass., and had been a longtime Westfield resident. He was also a family farmer and an avid beekeeper. An active Mason, he was past master of Mount Moriah Lodge of Masons in Westfield, past high priest of the Northampton Council, past commander of the Northampton commandery, past district deputy grand high priest, past grand scribe of the Grand Council of Royal Arch Masons, 20-year secretary for the Westfield council-chapter of Eastern Star, a member of York Rite and Melha Temple Shrine. He was also a member of the Massachusetts Grange Puma 20, and was a president of the Triangle Club for 30 years. He was called "teacher" by his brothers in Masonry. His wife, Eleanor "Teddy" (Heath) LaBay, died in 1991. He was also predeceased by two brothers, Ralph and Douglas. He leaves five sons, William and Patrick of Westfield, David of West Palm Beach, Fla., Richard of Montgomery, Mass., and Robert of Fort Worth, Fla.; three daughters, Candace Barber of Westfield, Phyllis Kordas of Hillsboro, N.H., and Madelyn Austin of Montgomery, Mass.; a brother, Curtis of Lyndon, Vt.; two sisters, Loraine Newland and Elaine Willey, both of West Burke, Vt.; 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, Sept. 3 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Healey-Pease Funeral Home of Westfield. Melanie was born Sept. 18, 1902, a daughter to Francis and Genereuse (Henry) Cormier in Buetouche, New Brunswick, Canada. Her husband, Norman Marcoux, and brother, James Cormier, predeceased her. Surviving family members include one nephew, Bernard Cormier of Waterville, Maine. , 15, of Barnet, died Monday, Sept. 2, 2002, from injuries sustained in an ATV accident. The son of Phillip W. Atkins and Melissa J. Mann, Devon was born July 26, 1987 in Woodsville, N.H. Devon loved his sisters, brother, parents and friends; he was always happy and enjoyed making people laugh. He was a freshman at St. Johnsbury Academy and a member of the freshman football team. He enjoyed four-wheeling, music, horses, video games, cooking (he was a good cook), Chinese food, going to the mud bogs with his dad, building model cars, and working on trucks with his dad, especially his dad's 1955 Chevrolet. Devon is survived by his parents, Melissa J. Mann of Barnet and Phillip W. Atkins of Victory; two sisters, Kristen Renee Atkins and Heather Michelle Atkins, both of St. Johnsbury; a brother, Tyler Ryan Atkins of Barnet; grandmothers, Pearl Elizabeth Strother of Maddison, Va., and Susan Mann of Bradford; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located on U.S. Route 5 South in Lyndon (Exit 23 from I-91), Friday, Sept. 6, at 1 p.m., with Bishop Glenn Goodrich officiating. He was born May 12, 1960 in Stoughton, Mass., the son of Edward James Ruprecht and Paula H. Schultz. Dennis worked in the shipping and receiving department for DCI in Lisbon, N.H. He married Wendy Goslant May 25, 1996. Surviving relatives include his wife of six years, Wendy (Goslant) Ruprecht of Bath; one son, Dennis Ruprecht Jr. of Bath; one stepson, Jeremy Beckley of Bath; one daughter, Molly Ruprecht of Bath; one stepdaughter, Katelind Beckley of Bath; four brothers, James Ruprecht of Hull, Mass., Michael Ruprecht of Columbia, S.C., Marcus Ruprecht of Georgia, and Gregory Ruprecht of Weymouth, Mass.; two sisters, Debra Ruprecht of Marion, Mass., and Karen Schomburg of Plymouth, Mass.; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. , 44, of 525 U.S. Route 2, Molly's Pond in West Danville, passed away at his home Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002. He was the husband of Susan Croteau. He was born Sept. 19, 1957, to Normand and Pauline (Lanoue) Croteau of Woonsocket, R.I. He was an active member of Youth Ministry at his parish, where he loved to play guitar and minister to young adults. It was at that time he met Susan, his future wife. They wed on June 25, 1977, at St. Agatha's Parish in Woonsocket. He went on to get his bachelor's degree from Rhode Island College and his master's degree in psychology from Norwich University in Vermont. He was a licensed clinical psychologist. He worked at Northeast Kingdom Mental Health, where he was to start work as a counselor at local elementary schools in St. Johnsbury. He loved Vermont, where he resided most of his married life. He recently celebrated his 25th wedding anniversary with his first love, Susan. He is also survived by his son, Jason Croteau, also of Molly's Pond; two daughters, Bethany Croteau of Steubenville, Ohio, and Amy Croteau of Putney, Vt.; his father, Normand Croteau Sr. of Woonsocket, R.I.; and a sister, Debra Conley of Seekonk, R.I. He had many nieces and nephews whom he loved greatly, including Thomas Croteau Jr., Robert Arias, Sarah Croteau (his goddaughter), Stephanie Croteau, Kevin Croteau and Audra Vasterling. He was predeceased by his mother Pauline, brothers Bobby and Tommy, and his mentor, Father Gerald Dye. Normand was a hard worker who really enjoyed helping people, especially children. He was a gentle man who took great pride in his family. He had a great sense of humor and an amazing spirit, which will now live on in everyone he ever knew. He was loved and will be forever missed. Visiting hours will be held this evening, Sept. 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Guibord Funeral Home, located on the corner of Main and Center streets in Lyndonville. Mrs. Judson was born in Milwaukee, Wis., the daughter of Theodore and Elizabeth (Unke) Froh. She graduated from Douglas High School in Douglas, Mass., and Becker College in Worcester, Mass. She worked in data processing at Whitin Machine Works in Whitinsville, Mass., and then at Wyman Gordan in Grafton, Mass., until her retirement. She resided in Sutton, Mass., for many years before moving to Lancaster in 1990. June was a member of the VFW Post 3041 Ladies Auxiliary of Lancaster. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Barrett "Barry" Judson of Lancaster; her mother, Elizabeth Froh of Sutton, Mass.; two sons, Thomas W. Judson and fiancee Debra Cennerazzo of Sutton, Mass., and David T. Judson and wife Lori of North Oxford, Mass.; two daughters, Janet E. Wheeler and husband Robert of Whitinsville, Mass., and Betty A. , 60, of Hardwick, died unexpectedly at his residence, Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002. He was born April 6, 1942 in Morrisville, the son of Hollis R. and Bernice (Houghton) Williams Sr. He attended Wolcott and Hardwick public schools, and later attained his GED. On March 1, 1965 he married Lois Alberta Davison in Montpelier. He entered the U.S. Army, and was stationed at Fort Dix, N.J. He served six months of active duty and was honorably discharged. He then joined the Vermont National Guard and served for two years. In his earlier years he was employed at the family-owned Hardwick Diner. He later was employed by Munson Earth Moving in Burlington, Lamoille Valley Railroad in Morrisville, Phil Mercier in Hardwick, and James Silver of Greensboro Bend. He and his wife Lois co-owned Benny's Restaurant in Hardwick for a number of years. He retired in 1980 due to failing health. Harold was a member of the Trottier Association of Montreal. Other enjoyments included camping, swimming, playing cards, hunting, gambling and the time that the spent with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife Lois of Hardwick; a son, Kelly Davison and wife Jacki of Hardwick; three daughters, Stacey Williams and companion Chick King of East Albany, Sherrie Williams and companion James Bromley of Newport, and Shannon McCullough of Newport; 12 grandchildren, Christopher and Jennifer Davison of Hardwick, Travis, Tyler and Kate Shatney of East Albany, Maranda Williams, and Abby Bromley, Jacob Williams, Hezekiah, Meosha, Shanika and Khadija McCullough, all of Newport; one great-grandson, Cody Davison of Hardwick; a sister, Sandra Farr and husband Albert of Hardwick; three brothers, Kenneth Williams and wife Carmeline of Craftsbury, Edwin "Eddie" Williams and wife Katherine of Lumberton, N.C., and Hollis Williams Jr. and wife Mary Jo of Hardwick; one aunt, one uncle, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Maida graduated from Danville High School, Class of 1938. She retired from her teaching career in June 1974. She was a member of the Diamond Chapter 14 Order of Eastern Star, member and past president of American Legion Post 53, and a member of the Danville Congregational Church. The Browns enjoyed their winters in Florida. Her husband, Winston "Bill" Brown of Danville, survived her but passed away yesterday, Sept. 5. of Pumpkin Hill Road in Danville, passed away Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. His wife Maida died the previous day, having been at his side during his illness. He was born in Marshfield, April 17, 1918, the son of Frank and Beryl (Gilman) Brown. He and Maida (Johnson) were married Oct. 24, 1943. Bill was an airplane propeller mechanic in the 1155th Army Air Force base unit which saw action all over Europe during World War II. Bill retired from St. Johnsbury Trucking on Jan. 25, 1980. The family remembers his wonderful retirement party when so many people came the Lincoln Inn couldn't hold them all. Bill was a past commander of American Legion Post 53; past master of Washburn Lodge 92 F & AM; and a member of Diamond Chapter 14 OES. He was a member of the Danville Congregational Church. He and Maida enjoyed their winters spent in Winter Haven, Fla. She had resided in Bogota for over 40 years and summered in Walden, Vt., during that time. Margaret spent 25 years working for the advertising firm of BBDNO in New York. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen J. McFarland, March 13, 1990. She is survived by her two daughters, Maureen and husband James Barry, and Stephanie McHugh, both of Bonita Springs, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Jennifer Barry, Allison Barry, Daniel Barry and Jordan McHugh. She made her home with her son Wayne until breaking her hip two years ago. Since then she had been a resident of the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center. She is survived by her son, Wayne Page of Passumpsic; her daughter-in-law, Dorothy Page of Waterford; two grandchildren and their spouses, Patty and Glenn Longley, and Rodney and Myra Page, all of Waterford; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold Eastman and wife Pearline of Groton; one sister-in-law, Mary Hatch of Groton; and nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Eaton Cemetery in Marshfield with John Somers presiding. , 86, of 224 Somerhill Road, Barnet, passed away Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002, at the Pines Rehabilitation and Health Center in Lyndonville. He was born Sept. 9, 1915, in Willimantic, Conn., the son of the late Lester and Isabell (Woodworth) Clark. He was predeceased by his wife, Carol (Rublee) Clark. He went to school in Coventry, Conn., and had a contracting business in Mansfield and Pawcatuck, Conn. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1941 and sent to the engineering school in Fort Belvoir, Va., for basic training. From there he was sent to Oahu in the Hawaiian Islands with the 34th Combat Engineers, which were activated at Schofield Barracks in November 1941. He was at Kaneohe Naval Air Base Dec. 7, 1941, the day of the Pearl Harbor attack. Soon after, he was sent back to Fort Belvoir and commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army Corps of Engineers, later promoted to first lieutenant and then to captain. He was an instructor in military explosives and taught at Fort Belvoir, at Fort Knox, Ky., and the ASTP at the school of mines in Golden, Colo. At the end of the war he went back to his business in Connecticut. He was a member of the American Legion for over 50 years. In 1968 he sold his business in Connecticut and retired to Vermont. He purchased property in Ewells Mill and Ewell Pond in Peacham, where he lived for over 25 years, and married Carol Carr. They sold their Peacham property and moved to West Barnet. His hobbies were hunting, fishing and his sawmill. He was always grateful that he was so well accepted by Vermonters; even after more than 30 years in Vermont, he was still a flatlander. Funeral services will be private.

, 67, of 65 Central Street, Woodsville, N.H., died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, at his residence. He was born Nov. 6, 1934 in Nashua, N.H., the son of Raymond C. and Yvonne (LaCombe) Gauthier. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Gauthier lived in Nashua and Hudson, N.H., and worked for the Raytheon Corporation as a technical writer before moving to Haverhill in 1976. He later worked at the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H., as a lab assistant. He was a former member of the American Legion Ross Wood Post 20, Woodsville, was involved with the RSVP program through Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, and served on the board at the Opera Block, where he was a resident at the time of his death. He was predeceased by his first wife, Priscilla (Meunier) Gauthier, March 29, 1969; one brother, Raymond Gauthier Jr.; and one sister, Theresa Vasiliou. Surviving relatives include his former wife, Sharon Gauthier of Haverhill; two sons, Peter A. Gauthier of Sanbornton, N.H., and Michael P. Gauthier of Auburn, N.H.; a daughter, Kimberly A. , 74, of Freeport, Maine, formerly of Littleton, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, after a long, courageous battle with cancer at the Freeport Nursing Home, where he had been residing. Donald was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a long-time resident of Littleton. He was born May 19, 1928 in Knox, Maine, a son of Fred and Pearl (Peterson) Parker. He began his career in the flooring industry at Fred's Linoleum Shop in Littleton, and then opened his own business, Carpetland, a local carpet sales and installation business. On his retirement he moved to Maine, living in Bath and Freeport. Donald was an avid outdoorsman who loved archery, hunting and fishing. He leaves behind a son, Dean Parker of Littleton; two daughters and their husbands, Kelly and Craig Falardeau of Bath, Maine, and Bonnie and Les Newsom of Indian Island, Maine; four grandchildren, Tori and Kerri Falardeau of Bath, and Matthew and Hollie Newsom of Indian Island; a brother and his wife, Dennis and Laurie Parker of Littleton; a sister and her husband, Stella and Al Lapanne of Portsmouth, N.H.; and many nieces and nephews. , 84, of Littleton, died peacefully, surrounded by her family, Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002. Born in Littleton, May 31, 1918, she was the only daughter of Albert J. and Blanche (English) Orr. She had many step- and half-brothers and -sisters. She had been a lifelong resident of Littleton. Mrs. Santy was devoted to her family - a homemaker, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved and lived for her family, friends and neighbors, and was, in turn, loved by all. She also worked for over 30 years at the Littleton Hospital. Mrs. Santy was an avid gardener, always known for having some of the most beautiful flowers, gardens and landscaping. She also loved playing bingo, and was an avid Red Sox fan. However, she most enjoyed being with her "family." One of her most memorable trips was in the late 1960s when she and her husband traveled cross-country to Alaska. At 80 years old she took her first flight to Florida with a very dear neighbor, and the following year she went solo to South Carolina for a visit with her son. Family members include one son, William Santy of Belton, S.C.; three daughters, Betty Ann Emerson of Lyman, N.H., Judith Kenison of Randolph, N.H., and Jacqueline Burlock of Gorham, N.H.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Roger L. Santy; and two grandchildren, Brenda Burlock and William Burlock. Services will be held Thursday, Sept. 12, at 11 a.m., at the Pillsbury Funeral Home, 101 Union St., Littleton, followed by interment at the Glenwood Cemetery of Littleton. , 91, of Lone Pine Farm in South Kirby, died suddenly at home, Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 11, 2002. He was born April 16, 1911, in Concord, Vt., son of the late Ernifred R. and Mary M. (Hutchinson) Wood. Maurice was born and died a dairy farmer, living on the same farm for over 90 years. On Dec. 24, 1936 he married Minnie (Moulton.) She died this last March after 65 years of marriage. Maurice was a member of Adah Chapter 39 OES in Concord for more than 40 years. He had also been a member of Moose River Lodge 82 F & AM of Concord for more than 50 years. He worked hard for his community throughout the years, serving as Kirby selectman, school director, lister, tax collector, town agent and town grand juror. Survivors include two sons, Robert "Bob" Wood and wife Suzanne "Sue" of South Kirby, and Rodney Wood, also of South Kirby; a daughter, Norma Hockman and husband John of Perkasie, Pa.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Flora Hastings of South Royalton, Vt.; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his three brothers, Harold, Hiram and Herbert Wood. , 84, of Concord, Vt., died suddenly at her home, Wednesday evening, Sept. 11, 2002. She was born in Concord, Aug. 11, 1918, the daughter of Benjamin and Helen (Morton) Daniels. Shortly after birth she moved to Waterford to the Daniels Brothers Farm, where she lived for many years. Lucille married Collins J. Farr and from 1962 to 1981 they lived in the Barre Town area, working for Sprague Electric, then returning to Concord. Additionally, she had been employed at Gilman Paper, Sears, and had been a school bus driver in St. Johnsbury. In her younger years she loved to ride horseback, and was a charter member of the St. Johnsbury Riding Club. She loved camping at Joe's Pond and winters in Florida, but most of all she loved her family and the time spent with them. On Sept. 3, 2002, she and her husband, Collins J. Farr, celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Her husband survives her in Concord. Other survivors include her son, Edward C. Farr of Danville; a daughter, Constance and husband Raymond Robitaille of Littleton; two sisters, Marjorie Canning and Vivian Davis, both of Waterford; five grandchildren, Edward C. Farr and wife Jennifer of Danville, Patricia J. Terry graduated from Newport High School and attended Boston University and Sterling College in Craftsbury. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and was stationed at the South Waymouth Naval Facilities, working as a journalist for the Navy. Terry began his career when he was in high school, at the Newport Daily Express, where he worked as editor for 17 years. In 1997, he went to work as a reporter for The Caledonian-Record. He enjoyed reading, music and being with his two sons, the pride and joy of his life. On May 2, 1970, Terry married the former Elizabeth Anne Todd, who survives him. He is also survived by his sons, Aaron Albee and girlfriend Jenna of Burlington, and Michael Albee of Newport Center; his mother, Hilda Albee of Newport Center; his special cousins, Gregory and wife Elaina, Linda and husband Joseph, Patty, and Bruce; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Stanley Albee. , 71, of Lost Nation Road, Groveton, died Saturday evening, Sept. 14, 2002, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Junction, after a recent illness. Mr. Stanton was born in Corinth, Vt., Nov. 13, 1930, the son of George H. and Ida J. (Martin) Stanton. George was raised in the Bloomfield, Vt.-Stratford, N.H. area and went to work in the Vermont copper mines at a very young age. At 17 he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving eight years, and was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant. His tour of duty included World War II, the Korean War, and serving in the countries of Panama and Germany. During that time he married Winnie Fleury of Groveton, on Jan 18, 1952. He resided for many years in Groveton and worked most of his life as a self-employed carpenter. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and his Brittany spaniel Ace, who was always at his side. Family members include his wife Winnie of Groveton; five children, George Allen Stanton of Hopkinton, N.H., Terry Andritz of Stark, N.H., Janice Oakes of Stark, N.H., Jeffrey Stanton of Jacksonville, N.C., and Dale Stanton of Sutton Mills, N.H.; and 13 grandchildren. Ada was a devoted mother and grandmother, raising her children with love and a great sense of humor. She was known in the surrounding communities for her volunteer work, and will also be remembered for her many years as a teacher's aide at the Blue School in Landaff. She enjoyed a variety of hobbies and crafts. Two trips to Europe were marked highlights in her life, as well as her love of family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Zuk. , 78, of 861 Clark Pond Road, North Haverhill, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, at the Veterans Administration Hospice Care Facility in White River Junction. He was born July 3, 1924 at Old Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, the only child of John and Mildred (Higgins) Farnham. He graduated from Haverhill Academy in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army in Africa, Italy, France and Germany during World War II, until Dec. 9, 1945. He married Bertha Reed, schoolmates since 1931, on Aug. 10, 1946. John worked for the Boston & Maine Railroad in 1947 as a brakeman/conductor, retiring in 1984. With a passion for the railroad, he had been engineer of the scenic Ho-Bo Railroad in Lincoln, N.H., until July 22 of this year. John was honored at a town meeting in March 2002, recognizing his many years of service on the Haverhill Selectboard, Planning Board and Master Plan Committee. He served as an advisory board member of the Horsemeadow Senior Center as well as volunteering his time by delivering meals, offering transportation to those with medical needs, and assisting in various other ways at the center. John belonged to the VFW Post 5245 of North Haverhill, the American Legion, and the Grafton Masons Lodge 46. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bertha; three daughters, Debra Ebelt of Piermont, N.H., Barbara Leete of Wells River, and Margo Longacre of Lyme, N.H.; six granddaughters; one great-grandson, and one great-granddaughter. , 93, of Newport, passed away Friday, Sept. 13, at 12:10 a.m., at the Centre de Sante Memphremagog Hospital in Magog, Quebec, Canada. Ida was born in Knowlton, Quebec, March 14, 1909, the daughter of Hormidas and Virginie (Bourgeois) LeBeau. Ida was an avid horseman and enjoyed riding and caring for her horses while living on the family farm in Evansville. She also enjoyed gardening and was blessed with a "green thumb." She took great pride in her flowers and garden, and delighted in showing them to others. She was a good cook and owned and operated a boarding, rooming and apartment house in Newport for several years. She also enjoyed sewing, making quilts, crocheting and knitting. She made sure all her grandchildren were always well-equipped with warm hand-knitted socks and mittens, and each year would sew new outfits for them to wear to "Barton Fair!" She loved taking her grandchildren "out" to the drive-in, swimming, picnics, the fair, any place she thought they might enjoy. Ida also worked at the Orleans Hotel Company (Newport Hotel) as a waitress and bartender. She was a very sociable and fun person. She cherished her friends and was loved by both the young and the old alike. Her children and her grandchildren were her life, and in her later years she would often say how much she missed spending time with them and sharing their lives. She married Lawrence Tabor, March 23, 1940; he predeceased her Dec. 10, 1960. She was also predeceased by her brother, Ernest Lebeau. She is survived by her daughter, Thelma (Tabor) Boucher and husband Michel; her son, Lawrence Tabor Sr. and longtime companion Kathleen Cole; 10 grandchildren, Jayme Boucher, Rocky Boucher, Dale Tabor and wife Lori, Robin Ouillette and husband Gene, Lawrence Tabor Jr., Alex Tabor, Jeannette Tabor, Travis Cole, Robbie Cole and Corey Cole; a sister, Bertha LeBeau; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Tuesday, Sept. 17, at St. Mary's Star of the Sea in Newport, with the Rev. Leo Bilodeau officiating. Interment followed at St. Mary's Cemetery in Newport. Cecil was born to Henry and Maude (Drost) Young, May 1, 1914, in Mars Hill, Maine. He lived most of his life in West Hartford, Conn., before moving to Easton in 1999. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Cecil was a self-employed machinist and owner of Young Enterprises in Connecticut. After at least two decades of membership in the West Hartford Rotary Club, he was named a Paul Harris Fellow. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Parker) Young of Easton; a daughter, Judy and husband John Day of Easton; a sister, Cleta Y. Miller of Luthersville, Md.; and one granddaughter, Leah and husband Guy Van Meter and their son Cole Brigham, all of Marblehead, Mass. Four brothers and three sisters predeceased him. , 97, of Randolph, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2002 at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph. She was born Jan. 13, 1905 in Vermont, the daughter of Arthur and Mina (Badger) Williams. She graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in St. Johnsbury and continued her education in Boston at hairdressing school. After graduating from hairdressing school, she returned to St. Johnsbury where she worked as a hairdresser for many years. She owned and operated her own shop for several years in St. Johnsbury. She was married to Theodore Ellis who predeceased her in the 1970s. Mrs. Ellis moved to South Royalton several years ago to live with her sister. In March 2000 she moved to the Windover House in Randolph. She was a former member of the South Congregational Church and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, both in St. Johnsbury. Gladys enjoyed reading and in earlier years liked spending time at camp. She leaves her sister, Marion Morency of South Royalton, two nieces and two nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 23, at the Day Funeral Home in Randolph at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jerry Smith officiating. 96, of West Burke, died Friday morning Sept. 20, 2002, at the Elder House in St. Johnsbury after a brief illness. He was born Feb. 26, 1906 in Guildhall, Vt. the son of the late Frank and Bessie (Washburn) Ford. Gil was schooled in West Burke and attended Lyndon Institute. On June 11, 1925 he married Avis Burbank. He worked at the Duval grocery store in West Burke for 16 years. He then worked at Vermont Tap and Die in Lyndonville for 26 years. While there he became an insurance agent working nights and started his own business, Ford Insurance Agency of West Burke, which he operated for 35 years. Gil was a National Weather Observer in West Burke for 68 years reporting conditions to the Fairbanks Museum. In the early years he reported to Comerford Dam in Barnet and also to Hartford, Conn. if a large storm hit the area. This reporting was a result of the 1927 flood. All of Gil's reports and his many local and national weather awards are still in use today in the meteorology department at Lyndon State College. He was also very active in his community serving more than 50 years as clerk and treasurer of the village of West Burke. He served 25 plus years on the advisory board of Passumpsic Savings Bank, was a Fairbanks Museum Fellow and was the oldest member of the West Burke Methodist Church. He enjoyed people, good food and his community. Survivors include his wife of 77 years, Avis (Burbank) Ford of West Burke; a niece, Nancy Dresser (whom he and Avis raised from the age of 2) and her husband Harold of Lyndon, and their family Barbara Dresser, and Joanne Myers and her husband Jeff; another niece, Phyllis Burbank of West Burke; a sister-in-law, Ruth Ford of Granville, N.Y.; other nieces and nephews; and many, many friends. He was predeceased by three brothers, Henry, Paul and Raymond Ford; and two sisters, Jane Deblois and Edith Knapp. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Sept. 22 at 2 p.m. at the West Burke United Methodist Church with the Rev. Henry Cheney and longtime friend and former pastor, Robert Leno, officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery in West Burke. There will be no calling hours. , 85, of Littleton, Mass, former longtime resident of Bolton, Mass., died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002 at the Life Care Center of Nashoba Valley in Littleton due to heart failure following a long illness. Born in Clinton, Mass. on Dec. 12, 1917, he was the son of the late Edward C. and Ida M. (Walcott) Ware. He was a graduate of Hudson High School, class of 1936. In 1937 he graduated from Worcester Trade School. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Japan. Mr. Ware worked for 25 years as a carpentry construction foreman for G. Bonazzoli & Sons of Hudson until his retirement in 1979. He had also taught cabinetry at Worcester Trade School and worked as a machinist for LaPointe Co. in Hudson, Mass. Active in his community, he was a captain for the Bolton Volunteer Fire Department. He held several Bolton town offices including selectman, school board member and assessor. He was also a Scout master. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Vera L. (Gabrielsen) Ware, currently residing at Life Care Center of Nashoba Valley in Littleton; daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia (Ware) and Eugene Montrone of Clarks Green, Pa.; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Jeanette Ware of East Burke; daughter, Barbara Ware of Gilsum, N.H.; son, Stephen Ware of Bolton, Mass.; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl A. (Ware) and Douglas Anderson of Edwardsburg, Mich.; two brothers, Edward C. Mr. Castrogiovanni was born in Boston, Mass., Oct. 8, 1935, the son of Guiseppe and Frances (Scalia) Castrogiovanni. Frank was a longtime resident of Waltham, Mass., until the early '70s when he and his family moved to Island Pond, Vt. He resided there for several years, later moving to New York and then Concord, where he has lived for the past four years. He served in the Army National Guard in Massachusetts and the U.S. Army. For many years he provided volunteer services for the Salvation Army. Memberships include the Sons of Italy and the American Legion. He was a big fan of the Boston Red Sox and NASCAR, particularly driver Rusty Wallace. His favorite hobby was visiting with people at Dunkin' Donuts. He enjoyed spending as much time as possible with his family. He also made numerous donations to the Feed the Children program based in Oklahoma. Family members include his wife, Beatrice A. In August 1951, Helen married Forrest Lyman, who predeceased her Dec. 3, 1984. On Sept. 10, 1934, she married Alfred Cole Sr., who predeceased her in August of 1981. She is survived by three sons and their wives, Alfred and Anita Cole Jr. of Lyndonville, Richard D. and Ruth Cole of St. Johnsbury Center, and Stuart F. Cole of Newark; a sister-in-law, Nettie Cole of Lyndonville; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by three sisters, Edna Applebee, Rose Roby and Lillian Roby; a brother, Brewster Bennett Jr.; three half brothers, Clifton, Clayton and Clinton Bennett; and a half sister, Sadie DeLong. In previous years she had attended Union Baptist School in Waterford, and later was home-schooled. She is survived by her parents of Waterford; her siblings, Ryan, Chad and Lauren Grant of Waterford; her maternal grandparents, Russell and Patricia Powers of Waterford; her paternal grandparents, Dexter and Gertrude Grant of Lyndon Center; and by several aunts, uncles and cousins. 80, of Ball Road, Groveton, died at Weeks Memorial Hospital in Lancaster, Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, after a sudden illness. Born July 22, 1922, in Berlin, N.H., a son of Michael and Mary (Shamulka) Sullivan, he was a resident of Groveton most of his life. He was a graduate of Groveton High School, Class of 1940. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, earning the Purple Heart. He married Theresa C. Stolarski in Pottsville, Penn., Nov. 1, 1947. He attended Burdett College in Boston, graduating in 1956 with a degree in sales management. While at college he was the girls basketball coach. He was appointed as the first rural letter carrier for the Groveton area, where he served until his retirement. He served on the board of trustees for Weeks Memorial Hospital. He served on the Groveton School Board as well as being a bus driver for the school. He also served as director of the Groveton Youth Center, concurrently working as life guard and swimming instructor. He was a past president of the Groveton Trailblazers Snowmobile Club. He most recently served as member of the Juvenile Diversion Program. Mr. Sullivan was a life member of both the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion Fredonwarell Post 17 of Groveton. John is survived by his wife of 54 years, Theresa "Ted" Sullivan of Groveton; two daughters, Holly Paradis of Groveton and Linda Curtis of Lemington, Vt.; one son, Brian Sullivan of Groveton; two granddaughters, Melissa Paradis and Lindsay Paradis, both of Groveton; one grandson, John Curtis of Lemington; as well as several cousins in New York. He was predeceased by an infant son, John Michael Sullivan, in 1966; and three brothers, Fred Sullivan, Michael Sullivan and Nicholas Sullivan.
