, 78, of Craftsbury Common died Tuesday, September 24, 2002, at Copley Hospital in Morrisville. Mrs. Antonelli was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, on January 22, 1924, the daughter of Ralph and Edith (Reynold) Rockwell. She was raised on Long Island, New York, and later lived in Carlisle, Massachusetts, where she was employed in the food service department of a state hospital. She was married to Doro Antonelli, who died in 1962. She moved to Vermont in 1962 and made her home caring for animals on the dairy farm. She loved doing puzzles, and she loved her cats, dogs, and of course, "the girls" in the barn. She leaves her partner of 40 years, Lee Harvey, of Craftsbury Common; two half brothers, Norman Rockwell of Phoenix, Arizona, and Ralph Rockwell of North Wolcott; two half sisters, Bertha Kennison and Louiza Rockwell, both of Phoenix; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Doro, she was predeceased by two brothers, Ralph Rockwell, who died as a young child, and Robert Rockwell, who died in World War II. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 19, at 11 a.m., at Davis Funeral Home in Craftsbury Common with the Reverend Nathan Strong officiating and Roland Greene eulogizing. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Dunstable, Massachusetts. , 99, of Derby died at her home on Sunday, September 29, 2002. Mrs. Bean was born on September 18, 1903, in Cassville, Quebec, the daughter of George and Rosa Belle (Bangs) Curtis. She graduated from Derby Academy. She worked for 16 years at the former Kelley's Restaurant and the former Newport Hotel. She was a member of Derby United Church and a member of the church's social union for many years. In 1936 she married Ralph Bean, who predeceased her. She is survived by her children: Barbara Vanasse of Belchertown, Massachusetts, Ronald MacBean of Bonnieville, Kentucky, Brenda Dimambro of Derby, and Linda Damiani of Island Pond; by her sisters Cora Johnson of Newport and Phyllis Davio of Newport; by 29 grandchildren; by 21 great-grandchildren; and by several great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter Elizabeth; by her stepchildren: Alfred Bean, Frank Bean, Carl Bean, Maribel LaFlam, and Lillian Gallo; by her brother Lee Curtis; and by her sisters: Beulah Storey, Edna Hardy, and Una Fournier. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 2, at 2 p.m., at Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Newport with the Reverend Fred Barker officiating. , 62, of Newport died peacefully September 24, 2002, from a long battle with cancer at his home with his family at his side. Mr. Broome was born on June 4, 1940, in West Charleston, a son of Irene (Perrier) and the late Thomas Broome. He graduated from Derby Academy and later entered the United States Navy. After serving his country, he owned and operated a dairy farm, was a demolition expert for the Vermont Highway Department, and also sold cars. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 21 and Eagles Club Fraternity Order No. 4329. He is survived by his children: Carol Schwab and her husband, Robert, of Chicago, Illinois, Barbara Jean Broome of Derry, New Hampshire, Tim Broome of Springfield, Tom Broome of Chicago, Michael Broome of Newport, Tim McCaffrey of Addison, and Cheryl Ploof and her husband of Addison; by his mother, Irene Broome, of Derby; by his grandchildren: Charlie Maki, Robert Schwab, Austin Broome, Tim McCaffrey Jr., Kimberly McCaffrey, Jessica Terry, Miranda Ploof, Alyssa Ann Broome, and Steven E. Broome; by a great-granddaughter, Brooke Cardwell; by sisters: Colleen Comeau of West Charleston, Charlotte Knowles of Florida, Barbara Parenteau of West Charleston, Joanne Bowen of Derby, and Darlyne Anne Carroll; by a sister-in-law, Evelyne "Sis" Broome, of Newport; and by numerous nieces and nephews. , 56, of Newport Center died at her home on Friday, September 27, 2002. Mrs. Deslandes was born in Newport Center on May 24, 1946, the daughter of Leo and Lena (Quintal) Normandin. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1965. She had many hobbies including playing bingo and cards with family and friends, painting by numbers, needlepoint, crocheting, making afghans, bowling, and doing puzzles that she hung on her walls. She is survived by her husband, Roland Deslandes, of Newport Center; by her son Tom Deslandes and his friend, Donna Labbee, of Troy; by her mother, Lena Patenaude, of Newport Center; by her stepsister Linda Berrise of South Hadley, Massachusetts; by her aunt Bet Quintal of Newport; and by her special young boy, Billy Lantagne, of Newport Center. She was predeceased by her daughter Lisa Marie Deslandes on July 27, 2001; and by her father, Leo Normandin, on February 12, 1960. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on October 1 at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Newport with the Reverend Leo Bilodeau officiating. Interment followed at Newport Center Cemetery. , 68, of Newport Center died suddenly September 28, 2002, in Newport. Mrs. Doyon was born January 2, 1934, in St. Ludger, Quebec, a daughter of Adolphe and Herminia (Parent) Doyon. She was a seamstress for many years for the former Headma Manufacturing of North Troy. She retired in 1996. She loved gardening, painting, and crocheting, and she enjoyed visiting with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her children: Yves Corriveau and his wife, Ginnette, of South Berwick, Maine, Pierre Corriveau and his wife, Marian, of Phoenix, Arizona, Bruno Corriveau and his wife, Denise, of Derby, Louise Newell and her husband, Robert, of Theodore, Alabama, Claude Corriveau of Newport Center, Clement Corriveau and his fiancée, Kathy, of North Troy, and Daniel Corriveau and Darryl of Loxely, Alabama; by 12 grandchildren; by the following brothers and sisters: Julien Doyon of Alfred, Ontario, Jean Doyon of St. Robert, Quebec, Yvan Doyon of St. Robert, Denis Doyon of St. Robert, Jeannine Garneau of Derby Line, and Aline Doyon of St. Robert; by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Gaetan Corriveau; and by a granddaughter, Dorothy Rose. , 89, of Barton died in Barton on Monday, September 23, 2002. Mrs. Lyman was born in Newport on December 2, 1912, the daughter of Joseph and Agnes (Solomon) Hendy. She graduated from Barton Academy. She was co-owner of Hendy Brothers and Webster Motors with her brothers Anthony and John, with whom she was very close. She was a devoted member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Barton, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Daughters of Isabella. In August 1951 she married Forrest Lyman, who predeceased her on December 3, 1984. She is survived by her son Gary Lyman and his wife, Gail, of West Glover; by her grandson Mit Lyman of West Glover; and by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her brothers Anthony and John; and by her sisters: Jennie Hendy, Leona Cody, and Mamie Joseph. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on September 26 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Barton with the Reverend Daniel Rupp officiating. Interment followed at Westlook Cemetery in Glover. Herbert M. Johnson

, 62, of Holland, Vermont, died in Newport on October 1, 2002, following a two-year courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Johnson was a happy man. His infectious smile and positive attitude toward life was an inspiration to medical staff, patients, and friends as well. He always had encouraging words for his friends and fellow cancer patients. He loved snowmobiling, averaging 7,000 miles per year on the trails, as a guide and for personal pleasure. Friends would travel from all over the country to snowmobile under his guidance. He was born in Ruther Glen, Virginia, on June 16, 1940. He graduated from Bowling Green, Virginia, Union High School where he was a member of the Honor Society and president of the Student Council. His photo, as king of the class prom, still hangs in the hall of the school. He attended Cortes Peters Business College in Washington, D.C. and worked for the staff of the Democratic National Committee. He lived and worked in the Hartford, Connecticut, area from 1963 to 1982, when he moved to Vermont. He owned his own lawn care service and maintained landscaping at several businesses and homes. His pride and joy was the Top of the Hill Motel, where for several years he maintained the grounds and property. He especially enjoyed friends, animals, and gardening. He was the son of the late Alice Rebecca Woolfolk Johnson and James M. Johnson. Brothers James Preston, McKoy E., and Melvin A. of Ruther Glen survive him. He was predeceased by his brother Brayland; by his sister Arlene Hines; and by a special friend and companion of 30 years, Joseph "Vic" Sacco. He also leaves several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. He recently joined Morgan United Church, which he attended as a guest over the past couple of years. Funeral services were held October 3 with the Reverend Michael DeSena officiating. Interment followed at Mead Hill Cemetery in Holland.

, 80, of Boscawen, New Hampshire, died Sunday, October 6, 2002, at Concord Hospital after a prolonged illness. Mr. Baird was born in Barton, the son of John and Gertrude (Green) Baird. He lived in the Penacook-Boscawen, New Hampshire, area for 47 years. He worked for many years at the former Brezner Tannery in Penacook. He later worked as an automobile mechanic for various companies. He also worked as a custodian at St. Paul's School in Concord, New Hampshire. He served with the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Franklin Post No. 1698, and American Legion Penacook Post No. 31, and he was a former member of the Moose in Concord. He enjoyed local men's softball, woodworking, gardening, and making maple syrup. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Shirley (Hunt) Hall Baird, who died in 1987; and by several siblings. He is survived by two sons, John Baird of Boscawen and James Baird of Concord; by one daughter, Donna Richardson of Boscawen; by three stepsons: Bill Hall of Newport, Robert Hall of Concord, and Bruce Hall of Plymouth, New Hampshire; by five stepdaughters: Effie Brown of Penacook, Dodie Wood of Jaffrey, New Hampshire, Sandra Elliott of Franklin, New Hampshire, Marilyn Collins of Coos Bay, Oregon, and Susan Audet of Concord; by 35 grandchildren; by numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; by three sisters: Carolyn Gray of Glover, Corabelle Paquette of Bellows Falls, and Barbara Gray of Connecticut; and by nieces, nephews, and cousins. There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held Friday, October 11, at 11 a.m., at New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen. The Reverend John Westhaver, pastor of United Church of Penacook, will officiate. Leona Breen Collier

, 85, died Saturday evening, October 5, 2002, at her Greensboro residence. Mrs. Collier was born January 19, 1917, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Joseph and Blanche (Breen) McLary. She attended schools in Chicago and graduated high school in 1935. She then attended Mundelein College in Chicago and later Goddard College in Plainfield. She graduated in 1972 with a bachelor of arts degree in early childhood education. On October 31, 1944, she married Durwood Charles Collier Sr. in Nashville, Tennessee. In her earlier years she assisted her husband on the family farm and as a secretary for his insurance business. She was employed by Central Vermont Head Start for several years. She was the published author of two books entitled Ghostly Bride Groom and Change of Heart. She was also librarian for Greensboro Free Library. She retired in 1984. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, a past member of the Caspian Lake Grange, and a recipient of its Citizen Award. She was an avid reader. She also enjoyed painting Vermont landscapes. Survivors include two sons, Durwood C. Collier Jr. and his wife, Sheryl, of Calais and Joseph P. Collier and his wife, Jan, of Morrisville; two daughters, Bridget Collier and Camilla Collier-Hill and her husband, Stuart, all of Greensboro; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Durwood, in 1982; and by her brother Joseph H. McLary Jr. There will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 11, at 11 a.m., at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Greensboro Bend. Burial will follow in the family lot in St. Michael's Cemetery. , 60, of Island Pond, beloved husband of Diane Daniels, died suddenly October 7, 2002, at North Country Hospital in Newport. Mr. Daniels was born on May 9, 1942, in Island Pond, a son of Clarence and Rena (Hosford) Daniels, who predeceased him. On October 3, 1970, he married Diane DeLaBruere, who survives him. He was an office technician for Lyndonville Office Equipment for ten years. He also upholstered furniture for 40 years at Walt's Upholstery. He was a former selectman for Island Pond, past Boy Scout troop leader, past member of the Vermont Army National Guard, and past member of North Country Swingers. He was a jack-of-all-trades, as he built several homes and his first at the age of 16. He enjoyed helping people, traveling with his wife and family members, and attending family gatherings. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Diane, of Island Pond; by his children: Walter R. Daniels and his wife, Karen, of East Burke, Christine Jenks and her husband, Dusty, of East Burke, and Marie Routhier and her husband, Alan, of Williston; by grandchildren: Victoria, Allyssa, and Jacob Daniels, Austin and Melena Jenks, and Tyler Routhier; by sisters Margrite Morgan and her husband, Floyd, of Island Pond and Gloria Taylor of Morgan; by sister-in-law Rita Daniels of Island Pond; by several nieces and nephews; by his mother- and father-in-law, Roland and Cecile DeLaBruere, and by his wife's 11 brothers and sisters and their spouses. He was predeceased by a brother, Cecil Daniels, in July. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 10, at Grace Brethren Church in Island Pond with the Reverend Dale Jenks officiating. Mabel M. (Miller) Dwinell

, 94, of Shelburne died Monday, September 16, 2002, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. Mrs. Dwinell was born in Quincy, Massachusetts, on December 31, 1907, a daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Atkins) Miller. She graduated from Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts, in 1928 with a major in history. She taught in the Washington, Connecticut, and Stamford, Connecticut, high schools, and went on to earn a master's degree at the State University of Iowa in 1933. After graduation she taught at the high school in Lexington, Massachusetts, until she married Dwight J. Dwinell in 1945. They lived in Reading, Massachusetts, from 1945 to 1972. She and her husband had no children but considered Karl Dieter Bunting a son. "Charlie" came to live with them as a German exchange student when he was 18 years old. In Reading she volunteered in the church school and in the work of the women at Reading Congregational Church. She became president of the Massachusetts Fellowship of Congregational Christian Women and vice president of the National Fellowship of Congregational Christian Women. She was also director of the United Church Board for World Ministries. She and her husband moved to Brownington in 1972. There she was active in Brownington Congregational Church and served on committees of the Vermont Conference of the United Church of Christ. She was chairman of the Jones Memorial Library board in Orleans. In 1983 her husband died, and she later moved to Wake Robin in Shelburne in February 1994. While at Wake Robin she was an active member of College Street Church in Burlington and was a volunteer on a service desk at Wake Robin and an active member of the Wake Robin program committee. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Alice J. Dwinell, of Quincy, Massachusetts; by three nephews: Charles E. McChesney of Mars, Pennsylvania, David L. McChesney of Storrs, Connecticut, and Robert D. McChesney of Princeton, New Jersey; by two nieces, Martha Pike of Folsom, California, and Susan Dupont of Nashville, Tennessee, and their families. , 70, of Holland died suddenly October 5, 2002, at his home. Mr. Judd was born on September 14, 1932, in Derby Line, a son of Harold Ernest and Fleda (Carter) Judd Sr. He was in the United States Army where he served his country honorably during the Korean War. After returning from the service he was employed by the Lincoln, New Hampshire, paper mill for 17 years. He owned and operated Judd's Snow Machines Sales and Service with his former wife, Solange. He retired as a maintenance worker for the Mill Front Market Place in Lincoln. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 83 in Lincoln. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and camping. He is survived by his children: Michael J. Judd and his wife, Susan, of Wentworth, New Hampshire, Barbara A. Judd of Plymouth, New Hampshire, and Jeffrey P. Judd of Lincoln; by three grandchildren: Allison and Paul Judd and Gavin Duorovy; by brothers: Kenneth of Derby, Lawrence of Holland, Michael of Derby, Dwight of Coventry, and Winston of Orleans; and by several nieces and nephews.
