Terrill "Terry" Stanley Albee

, 62, of Newport Center died at his home on Friday, September 13, 2002. Mr. Albee was born in Newport on March 9, 1940, the son of Stanley and Hilda E. (Montgomery) Albee. He graduated from Newport High School and attended Boston University and Sterling College in Craftsbury. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and was stationed at South Weymouth Naval Facilities, working as a journalist for the Navy. He began his career when he was in high school with the Newport Daily Express, where he worked as editor for 17 years. In 1997 he went to work as a reporter for the Caledonian Record. He enjoyed reading, music, and being with the pride and joy of his life, his two sons. On May 2, 1970, he married Elizabeth Anne Todd, who survives him. He is also survived by his sons Aaron Albee and his girlfriend, Jenna, of Burlington and Michael Albee of Newport Center; by his mother, Hilda Albee, of Newport Center; by his special cousins: Linda and her husband, Joseph, Patty, Gregory, and his wife, Elaina, and Bruce; and by several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Stanley Albee. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 18, at Newport United Church at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Anne Squires officiating. Private interment will take place at a later date with full military honors. , 84, of Lowell died peacefully September 13, 2002, in Burlington. Mrs. Benoit was born October 15, 1917, in Westfield, a daughter of Ovila and Olivina (Meunier) Pion. On June 26, 1939, she married Eugene Benoit, who predeceased her. During her lifetime she operated a dairy farm with her husband for 32 years. She spent winters in Florida and enjoyed gardening and visiting friends and relatives. She is survived by a son, Bernard, of Lowell; by three brothers: Raymond Pion and his wife, Gilberte, of Lowell, Roland Pion and his wife, Huguette, of Lowell, Roger Pion and his wife, Annette, of Barton; by one sister, Solange McAllister, of Hardwick; by two sisters-in-law, Shirley Pion of Newport Center and Hilda Pion of Lowell; by an aunt, Lena Benoit, of Enosburg; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Rene and Sam Pion; and by sister Marie Boudreau. Funeral services were held September 17 at St. Ignatius Church in Lowell with the Reverend Jerome Mecure celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment followed in St. Ignatius Cemetery in Lowell. Carroll E. Cass

, 82, of Morgan died suddenly in Newport on Saturday, September 14, 2002. Mr. Cass was born in Georgeville, Quebec, on June 26, 1920, the son of Oloff B. and Mable (Holland) Cass. On December 5, 1942, he married Freda A. Tryon, who survives him. When the couple first came to the United States in 1945, they lived and worked on Long Island. They moved to Morgan in 1951 and started farming. Mr. Cass got into heavy equipment and was Morgan's road commissioner for 29 years. He also served as lister and justice of the peace. The couple was instrumental in starting and running the Morgan sugar-on-snow party that was held for years in July. They both enjoyed square dancing and were members of the North Country Swingers. Mr. Cass was a member of Masonic Order Island Pond Lodge No. 44 F&AM. He derived great pleasure in playing the accordion and guitar. He was always doing for others and was a friend to all. Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughters: Natalie Cass of Morgan, Nancy Judd and her husband, Terrill, of Newport, and Nada Parker and her husband, Farris, of Maryland; by his grandchildren: Michelle Dumas of Derby, Amanda Parker of Ohio, and Philip Parker of Maryland; by her sister Connie Keet and her husband, Fred, of Georgeville, Quebec; and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Larry in 1999; and by one sister. Friends may call at Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Home on Darling Hill Road in Newport on Wednesday, September 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 19, at the funeral home in Newport at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Richard Whitehill and the Reverend George Kern officiating. , 69, of Colebrook, New Hampshire, died after a sudden illness early Sunday morning, September 8, 2002, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. Mr. Pothier was born on May 28, 1933, in Warwick, Quebec, the son of Joseph and Angelina (Beauchesne) Pothier. He attended school in Canada. He married Marielle Martel on July 21, 1955. He was a dairy farmer most of his life. He owned and ran farms in Canada until the late 1950s when he moved to Troy to manage a dairy farm. He also ran dairy farms in East Windsor, Connecticut, West Charleston, and most recently Colebrook. After retiring from farming he was self-employed. He delivered hay and hauled heavy equipment for Eddie Nash and Sons, Incorporated, of Colebrook. He was a businessman who enjoyed making a deal. He also enjoyed playing bid whist. He is survived by three sons: Andreo "Deo" Pothier of West Charleston, Serge Pothier of Derby, and Mario "Mike" Pothier of Columbia, New Hampshire; by two daughters, JoAnn Cotnoir and her husband, Claude, of Oxford, Maine, and Susy Pion and her husband, Robert, of Lowell; by four brothers: Conrad Pothier of Quebec, Bruno Pothier of Enosburg Falls, and Raymond and Gilles Pothier, both of Quebec; by four sisters: Therese Grenier of Quebec, Madeline Grenier of Quebec, Gisele Dubois of Montréal, and Marguerite Lemarier of Quebec; by 15 grandchildren; and by four great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated September 12 at St. Brendan's Church in Colebrook, officiated by the Reverend Albert Bellefeullie. Burial followed at St. Brendan's Cemetery.

, 93, of Newport died on Friday, September 13, 2002, at 12:10 a.m., at the Centre De Sante Memphremagog Hospital in Magog, Quebec. Mrs. Tabor was born in Knowlton, Quebec, on March 14, 1909, the daughter of Hormidas and Virginie (Bourgeois) LeBeau. She married Lawrence Tabor on March 23, 1940. She was an avid horseman and enjoyed riding and caring for horses while living on the family farm in Evansville. She also enjoyed gardening and was blessed with a green thumb. She took great pride in her flowers and garden and delighted in showing them to others. She was a good cook and owned and operated a boarding, rooming, and apartment house in Newport for several years. She also enjoyed sewing, making quilts, crocheting, and knitting. She made sure all her grandchildren were always well-equipped with warm hand-knitted socks and mittens and each year would sew new outfits for them to wear to the Barton fair! She loved taking her grandchildren out to the drive-in, to swim, to picnics, to the fair, or to any place she thought they might enjoy. She worked for many years at the Orleans Hotel Company (Newport Motel) as a waitress and bartender. She was a very sociable and fun person. She cherished her friends and was loved by both young and old alike. Her children and her grandchildren were her life, and in her later years she would often say how much she missed spending time with them and sharing in their lives. Her husband, Lawrence, predeceased her on December 10, 1960. She was also predeceased by her brother Ernest LeBeau. She is survived by her daughter Thelma (Tabor) Boucher and her husband, Michel; by her son Lawrence Tabor Sr. and his longtime companion, Kathleen Cole; by ten grandchildren: Jayme Boucher, Rocky Boucher, Dale Tabor and his wife, Lori, Robin Ouillette and her husband, Gene, Lawrence Tabor Jr., Alex Tabor, Jeannette Tabor, Travis Cole, Robbie Cole, and Corey Cole; and by several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated September 17 at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church with the Reverend Leo Bilodeau officiating. Interment followed at St. Mary's Cemetery in Newport. , 48, of Cleveland, Texas, died in Houston, Texas, on August 8, 2002. Mrs. Leger was born in Newport on September 9, 1953, the daughter of Rudolph and Shirley Dunn. She was a 1972 graduate of North Country Union High School and served in the U.S. Air Force as a jet mechanic. She was a former member of Willis American Legion and Frontier Chapter of the Eastern Star in Troy. She was an outdoors girl who enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and working with her horses as well as playing bingo. She also had the proverbial green thumb and enjoyed her flower gardens. She is survived by her husband, Lynn Leger, of Cleveland, Texas; by her daughter Dallas Brault of Conroe, Texas; by her stepdaughters Mary Beth and Becky Lynn Leger of Jennings, Louisiana; by her sons Derrick Daggett of Conroe, Texas, and Daniel Daggett of Vermont; by her parents, Rudolph and Shirley Dunn, of North Troy; by her father-in-law, Daniel Leger, of Lafayette, Louisiana; by her mother-in-law, Wilma Morales, and her husband, Gene, of Conroe, Texas; by her sister Debbie Dunn of North Troy; by her brothers Brian Dunn and his wife, Joanne, of Vermont and Dennis Dunn and his wife, Susan, of Porter, Texas; and by her granddaughter Hailee Schultz. , 41, of Troy died at her home on September 4, 2002, as a result of a farming accident. Ms. Byrne was born in Dublin, Ireland, on September 4, 1961, the daughter of James and Mary (Myers) Byrne. She received an agricultural degree in Ireland. She worked as a milk tester for the Dairy Herd Improvement Association. She also had a small sheep farm. She enjoyed horseback riding, spending time with her area friends, and especially working with her sheep. She is survived by her parents, James and Mary Byrne, of Ireland; by her brother Trevor Byrne and his partner, Marion, of Ireland; by her sister Hazel Copeland and her husband, William, of Ireland; and by aunts, uncles, nieces, and a nephew. A memorial service was held on September 8 at her farm with the Reverend Nathan Strong officiating. Interment will be held in Ireland at a later date. , 77, of North Troy died in Newport on Tuesday, September 3, 2002. Mr. Misaejko was born in Bayside, New York, on March 14, 1925, the son of John and Anna (Meinkowski) Misaejko. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He worked as an inspector for the New York City Transit Department, retiring in 1976 and moving to North Troy soon after. He was a member of American Legion Jay Peak Post No. 28. In September 1973 he married Mina Hodgen, who survives him. He is also survived by his brother John Misaejko of Hicksville, Long Island. Funeral services were held on September 5 at Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Newport with the Reverend Joseph Blattner officiating. Interment will take place at a later date. , 73, died September 3, 2002, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital's hospice unit in North Carolina. Mrs. Mitchell was a native of Greensboro, North Carolina, born February 2, 1929, the daughter of the late Jeanette B. and Elmer W. Graves Sr. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 51 years, J. Elwood Mitchell Jr.; by daughters: Jennie Davis and her husband, Bob, of Derby Line, Mary Hardee and her husband, Joe, of Richmond, Virginia, and Betsy Hundley and her husband, Jim, of High Point; by brother Elmer W. Graves Jr. of Greensboro, North Carolina; by grandchildren: Payson and Emily Davis, Woody and Martha Hardee, and Elizabeth and Rebecca Hundley; and by a host of relatives and many dear friends. She was an active volunteer in the community throughout her life. Before graduating with honors from the University of Tennessee, she was recognized in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. She did graduate studies in guidance counseling at University of North Carolina, was a member of the North Carolina Historical Book Club, was a past president of Reviewers Study Club, was area representative for Stonecroft Ministries, was speaker for Christian Women's Clubs, was a Bible study teacher at church, and was active in the Walk to Emmaus ministry and the Emmaus Prayer Chapel. Her memorial service was held September 6 at Trinity Church in Greensboro, North Carolina. Marcel A. Trotier

, 76, died on August 14, 2002, at his home in East Barre. Mr. Trotier was born on July 17, 1926, in Ottawa, Ontario, the son of Armand and Antoinette (Danis) Trotier. He formerly resided in Newport and St. Johnsbury and for a time in Florida, moving to East Barre in 1999. He was a longtime employee of the Canadian Pacific Railway, having worked as telegraph operator at various stations in Vermont and Quebec, and as dispatcher in Farnham and Montréal, Quebec, for a total of nearly 50 years. For a time he owned a used car dealership and later an auto body shop. He served one term as president of the Kiwanis Club in Newport. He especially enjoyed his family, his model railroad, and boating. He is survived by his wife, Frances (Brunelle) Trotier; and by his former wife, Theresa (Lambert) Trotier; and by their children: Mark and his wife, Rhonda, of Manchester, Connecticut, Denise Johnson and her husband, Tom, of Colchester, Karen Russillo and her husband, Robert, of Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, and Margo Trotier of Burlington. Survivors also include stepdaughter Karen Hogan and her husband, Keith, of Montpelier; the following grandchildren: Tiffany and Tim Trotier, Naomi, India, and Sam Johnson, Ryen, Ivry, Vaughn, Alexis, and Talon Russillo, and Dylan and Schulyer Doane; and two stepgranddaughters, Danielle and Maegan Hogan. He was predeceased by his parents; and by a sister, Francoise Fearnside. A memorial service was held at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Newport on August 27.
