, 82, of 38 Mill Street in Woodsville, N.H., died March 31, 2001, at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, following a brief illness. She was born in Chelsea, Vt., Dec. 15, 1918, the daughter of Ralph and Alice (Chase) Walker. Mrs. Moulton was a 1938 graduate of Lyndon Normal School in Lyndonville, Vt., and early in her life had taught all eight grades in a one-room schoolhouse. While at Lyndon she served as secretary of the Women's Athletic Association, vice president of the senior class, on the Bean Cottage Council, and as chairman of the Commencement Committee. She had also worked briefly in the shoe factories in Littleton and Lisbon. Mrs. Moulton was a long-time Woodsville resident. She was a member of the Woodsville congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, where she had served and worked in the Kingdom work for the past 48 years. She married Richard L. Moulton Sr., Feb. 9, 1940. Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Richard of Woodsville; two daughters, Rebecca Faye Aldrich of Woodsville, and Elsie Christina Petit of Newport, Vt.; three sons, Richard Leon Moulton Jr. of Lyman, N.H., Roy Lawrence Moulton of Martinez, Calif., and David Lee Moulton of Pinedale, Wyo.; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Walker of Worcester, Vt.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Walker, and a brother, Harold Walker. There will be no calling hours. , 80, of Pike Avenue, Littleton, N.H., died Friday, March 30, 2001, at the Littleton Regional Hospital, after a short illness. Mrs. Foster was born in Littleton March 18, 1921, a daughter of George and Rose (Medore) Champagne. Margaret loved to shop with her husband and play with her great-grandchildren. She was greatly loved and will be missed dearly. Surviving family includes her husband of 58 years, Randall E. Foster of Littleton; one son, Donald L. Foster of Littleton; one daughter, Cheryl (Foster) Bartlett of Littleton; six grandchildren, Jason, Richard, Dean, Crystal, Jessica and Nicole; and six great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Angelica, Corey, Samantha, Evan and Eric. There will be no services at this time. A committal service is planned for a later date. , 57, of Hardwick, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at his home. James was born on April 6, 1943, the son of Donald H. Drown and Laura (Jordon) Drown. James attended Greensboro High School, where he graduated in 1961. He then graduated from the University of Vermont in 1965. He was employed in management by H.P. Hood Ice Cream in Suffield, Conn., from 1965 to 1967 when he returned to Greensboro to assist in the family owned dairy business, which included two farms, a milk processing plant and retail routes. In 1971, he and his wife purchased one of the family owned dairy farms and operated it until declining health caused them to sell in 1988. Jim had been retired since then, driving the school bus for Wildcat Busing in Hardwick the last four years. James leaves his wife, Rowena Drown, whom he married in 1964; a daughter, Rhonda Drown-Saben and friend David Rowell of St. Johnsbury; two sons, Jarrett Drown and wife Dianne of Hardwick, and Harley Drown and his wife Marquise of Apex, N.C.; grandchildren, Hannah Saben, Chelsea Saben and Rebecca Saben, Kaela Drown, Jacob Drown, Ryan Hall, Renee Hall, Jesse Drown and Mehryn Drown; his mother, Laura Drown of Greensboro; a brother David Drown and wife Angel of Greensboro, and their children, Kyle Drown of Burlington, Ian Drown, Alec Drown, Jordan Drown, Jessica Reese, Dawnyel Reese; two brothers, Alfred Drown and his partner Marge Berry of Lyndonville, and Robert Drown and his wife of Hawaii; sons, Sean Drown and family of Raleigh, N.C., and Scott Drown and family. Jim enjoyed the outdoors, including hunting, fishing and hiking in the woods. He appreciated the complexity and beauty of God's creation. Jim valued his family and he loved visiting with his friends. Jim relished the company of his children, especially the companionship of his grandchildren during his many outdoor activities. His brothers looked forward to each year's sugaring season and sampling the finished product. Family was everything to Jim and it was evident in his everyday being and his love and extension of friendship to his extended family of children on Bus No. 8. Jim was a member of the Hardwick Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hardwick Rescue Squad, Hardwick, VT 05843; or the Hardwick Fire Department, Hardwick, VT 05843. Family and friends are invited to calling hours Sunday, 2-4 p.m., at the des Groseilliers Funeral Home, Church Street, Hardwick. , 79, of Franconia, N.H., a retired thoracic surgeon associated for many years with the greater Boston medical community, died suddenly at his home Friday. Until his retirement in 1992, Dr. Taylor had been chief of surgery at the Malden Hospital, Malden, Mass. He also had been a founder and principal of CardioThoracic Associates, a group surgical practice specializing in diseases of the heart and lungs. He received his training as a Fellow in thoracic surgery under the tutelage of the late Dwight E. Harken, M.D., one of the early pioneers of open-heart surgery at the Harvard University teaching hospitals during the late 1950s. At that time, Dr. Taylor was affiliated with the Peter Bent Brigham and Mt. Auburn hospitals, and served as an assistant clinical professor of surgery at the Harvard Medical School. He subsequently led clinical teaching positions at the Tufts University and Boston University schools of medicine. An active alumnus of Dartmouth College, where he earned his bachelor of arts in 1943, Dr. Taylor also received a two-year certificate from Dartmouth Medical School in 1943, then went on to earn his doctor of medicine degree in 1945 at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. During his 47-year medical career, Dr. Taylor held fellowships with the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Chest Physicians and the American College of Cardiology. He also was a founding member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and was widely published in numerous medical journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine. Born in Boston in 1921, Dr. Taylor was raised in Dedham, the son of Virginia (Thompson) and William J. Taylor, M.D. He was a member of the Dedham High School, Class of 1939. Dr. Taylor was a long-time resident of Winchester, Mass., where he served on the Board of Health for 21 years. He also spent a part of every summer of his life at a family retreat on Birch Island in Lake Winnepesaukee, N.H. After his retirement to Franconia in the early 1990s, Dr. Taylor became actively involved with the Franconia Area Heritage Council, and served as its president from 1997 until his death. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie (Hutchins) of Franconia, N.H.; a son, Wayne, of Rehoboth, Mass.; three daughters, Leigh Buckman and Jane Gallant of Gilford, N.H., and Virginia Picci of Ecublens, Switzerland; a half-brother, William J. Taylor of Foxboro, Mass.; a half-sister, Kathryn (Taylor) Cicerone of Norton, Mass.; six grandchildren, and six nieces and nephews. A memorial service for Dr. Taylor will be held at the Sugar Hill, N.H., Community Church, Tuesday, April 3 at 11 a.m. Donations in his memory may be made to the Franconia Area Heritage Council, P.O. , 85, of Mallary Road, Bradford, died Friday evening, March 30, 2001, at Brookside Nursing Home in Bradford. He was born Oct. 31, 1915, in West Derby, the son of Frank C. and Minnie F. (Orr) White. He received his education in Coventry, Orleans and at Peacham Academy. As a young boy, he worked with his father, who operated general stores in various locations in Vermont. He married the former A. Katherine Bayley in Barnet, Sept. 16, 1939. Mr. White was employed at Fellows Gear Shaper in Springfield, until he was forced to stop work at the plant because of a medical condition. In 1943 he started work at the Mallary Farm in Bradford and operated the dairy plant on the farm, supplying milk to Dartmouth College. After retiring in 1984, he continued doing maintenance work on various properties for the Mallary family. He enjoyed collecting firearms, target shooting, and had an extensive collection of retired Vermont postmarks. He had been a member of the Bradford Pistol Club, the Vermont Philatelic Society, the Washington County Stamp Club, and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. Survivors include his wife, Katherine White of Bradford; two daughters, Francena Goodine of Canton, Maine, and Jane Demers of Addison; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three nephews and a niece. Mr. White was predeceased by a brother, Charles Samuel White. Graveside funeral services at Fairlee Village Cemetery will be held later in the spring. There are no calling hours. , 70, of East Street in Lyndonville, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2001, at the Pines Rehabilitation and Health Center, of complications from diabetes. She was born May 23, 1930, in Lyndonville, the daughter of the late Shirley (Smith) and Ernest F. Allard. Barbara graduated from Lyndon Institute, Class of 1955, and received an associate's degree from Community College of Vermont. She enjoyed teaching sunday school at the Lyndonville Congregational Church, spending time at the Cobleigh LIbrary, and researching family genealogy. Until recently, although Barbara was blind, she was able to stay in her home with the help of neighbors and Caledonia Home Health aides. She looked forward to their visits and the company of family and friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Burton Allard, Aug. 16, 1984; and by a nephew, Philip Heath, June 5, 2000. She is survived by her sister, Mildred Heath of Lyndonville; her brother, Lawrence Allard of Island Pond; several nieces and nephews, including Joanne Rowe and her husband Everett, Sandra Chesley and her husband Wendell, Robert Heath and his wife Faye of Lyndonville, and Norman Twombley of Wheelock; and numerous cousins, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home, Wednesday, April 4 at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Donald Vincent officiating. A visiting hour will be one hour prior to the funeral. , 86, of Whitefield, N.H., formerly of Island Pond, passed away in Lancaster, N.H., Friday, March 30, 2001. She was born in Island Pond May 24, 1914, the daughter of Earl and Annie (Ladd) Applebee. Eva was a 1931 graduate of Brighton High School in Island Pond, and lived in Island Pond for 70 years. She was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Island Pond, a member of the Island Pond Historical Society, and a member of the Eastern Star Island Pond North Star Chapter 25 since 1934. On Feb. 24, 1937, Eva married Clayton Bailey, who predeceased her Oct. 17, 1975. She is survived by her daughters, Dawn Meunier of Groveton, N.H., and Lorraine Flores and her husband Rafael of Wilder, Vt.; her brother, Riley Applebee of Newport, Vt.; 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Carol Ann Cameron, June 27, 1984; her brother, Andrew Applebee, Jan. 4, 1992; her sister, Evelyn Ladd Marshall, June 26, 1998; and her parents, Earl and Annie Applebee. , 66, of Morgan, Vt., died suddenly in Newport, April 3, 2001. He was born Sept. 3, 1934 in Morgan, a son of Roger and Arlene (Maxwell) Whitehill. On Oct. 13, 1956, he married Katherine Inez Lowell, who survives him. He graduated from Brighton High School in 1952. Mr. Whitehill was a dairy farmer all of his life in Morgan. Among his hobbies he enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading, coin collecting, working with farm animals and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Mr. Whitehill entered the U.S. Army in 1956 and was honorably discharged in 1962. She was born Aug. 19, 1911, in Barton, the daughter of George W. and Ellen (Healey) Goodfellow. A homemaker, she attended Lyndon Normal School and was a member of the Congregational Church in St. Johnsbury Center, Community Club and the Loyal Workers. She is survived by two sons, Philip Corrow and wife Diane of Chelmsford, Mass., and Carlton Corrow of Clifton Park, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and a sister, Alice L. Hilliker of Orleans. , 91, of Evans Road, Twin Mountain, N.H., passed away at the Morrison Nursing Home, Whitefield, N.H., Wednesday, April 4, 2001, after a short illness. He was born in Harts Location, N.H., the son of Loring and Hattie (Smith) Evans. He had been a resident of Twin Mountain for the past 68 years. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a sniper instructor in the 10th Mountain Division. He worked as a bellman at the former Crawford House at the top of Crawford Notch. He received a life membership in the Appalachian Mountain Club in recognition for his many years of dedication to the care and maintenance of hiking trails in the Crawford Notch area. He was employed at the Twin Mountain Fish Hatchery for 38 years prior to his retirement. He was predeceased by his wife, Anna Marie (Conroy) Evans, in 1995. He is survived by three sons, Vernon P. Evans of Chester, N.H., Gene L. Evans of Whitefish, Mont., and Brian W. Evans of Old Orchard, Maine; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She graduated from Littleton High School in 1932 and received a bachelor's degree in education in 1936 at Woodsville Elementary School for 17 years and for many years previously in other New Hampshire and Vermont schools. She retired in 1973. She married Ralph Masten Feb. 3, 1944. Jeannette was a member of the Wells River Congregational Church and the Women's Fellowship. She was past president of the Wells River Study Club and a 50-year member of the Corinthian Chapter 42 of the Order of the Eastern Star, in which she was a past worthy matron and a past grand representative. She was a trustee of the Baldwin Memorial Library in Wells River. She was predeceased by three brothers, Lester, Carl and Dana Jordan Jr. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Ralph of Wells River; one son, Paul Masten and his wife Louise Stanton-Masten of Lynnwood, Wash.; one grandson, Eric Stanton Masten; her sister-in-law, Elisabeth Marshall of Alfred, Maine; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Wendell and Abbie Masten of Lyndonville; nieces and nephews, Charlotte and Robert Jones of Alfred, Maine, Barbara Jordan of South Portland, Maine, and Carl and Donna Jordan of Boothbay, Maine. She was born July 24, 1914, in Passumpsic, the daughter of Joseph and Florence Nina (Kimball) Rash. She married Raymond Demars, who predeceased her Jan. 1, 1973. Helen had worked as a waitress at several local restaurants for many years. She was a member of the South Congregational Church for over 60 years; a member of the Searchlight, and "The 59ers" ladies' group at the church; she was also active at the Senior Citizens Center. She is survived by five children, Richard Rash and wife Susie of Tacoma, Wash., Dorothy Bijolle and husband Joseph of St. Johnsbury, Paul A. Demars of St. Johnsbury, David R. Holbrook 13 years ago, and she worked at EHV-Weidmann Industries for many years. Kim was a loving, outgoing person who did not know a stranger; she was a loving, caring friend to all. Kim loved camping, four-wheeling, fishing and racing. She is survived by her husband, Kevin G. Holbrook of St. Johnsbury; her mother, Phyllis Minshull of St. Johnsbury; her grandparents, William A. and Betty J. Minshull of Passumpsic, and Grammy Hood of St. Johnsbury; a brother, William Kevin Minshull of St. Johnsbury; nephews Michael Minshull of East Haven and Dustin of Waterford, as well as several aunts and uncles. Susan was born in Lancaster Aug. 22, 1929, the daughter of Bernard and Agnes (Donovan) McDonough. She resided in Lancaster most of her life and was a graduate of Lancaster Academy. She was born Sept. 13, 1965 in St. Johnsbury, the daughter of William Michael and Phyllis (Oliver) Minshull. She married Kevin G. Holbrook 13 years ago, and she worked at EHV-Weidmann Industries for many years. Kim was a loving, outgoing person who did not know a stranger; she was a loving, caring friend to all. Kim loved camping, four-wheeling, fishing and racing. She is survived by her husband, Kevin G. Holbrook of St. Johnsbury; her mother, Phyllis Minshull of St. Johnsbury; her grandparents, William A. and Betty J. Minshull of Passumpsic, and Grammy Hood of St. Johnsbury; a brother, William Kevin Minshull of St. Johnsbury; a favorite nephew, Michael Minshull of St. Johnsbury, and nephew Dustin of Waterford, and several aunts and uncles, including Tim and family, Robert and family, and Jane and family. , Lunenburg, died at Weeks Memorial Hospital on Thursday, April 5, 2001, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Oct. 17, 1919, in Rochester, N.H., the son of Lewis and Agnes Dunnells (predeceased) of Lunenburg, Vt. He was a World War II Marine veteran. After the war, he lived in Point Pleasant, N.J., for 22 years before moving to Lunenburg, where he and his wife of 59 years, Doris, have lived for the past 26 years. Richard was predeceased by five brothers: William, Gerald, Calvin, Walter and Lewis. He is survived by his wife, Doris; a sister, Jo Forrest and her husband, Velmore, of Lunenburg; a daughter, Bonnie Van Horn and her husband, Andy, of Lunenburg; three sons, Bryan Dunnells and his wife, Tracy, of Lunenburg, Richard Jr. and his wife, Patti, of Brick, N.J., and Mark Dunnells of Middletown, Va. Richard Sr. also is survived by 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Richard was co-owner, with his wife, of the Triple Dee Motel and Camp Ground on Route 2 in Lunenburg. He was a member of the Moose River Lodge 82F and a member of North Country Iwo Jima Survivors. Richard enjoyed his family and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He often could be seen giving them and his dog, Yogi, rides on his golf cart around the Triple Dee camp grounds. The family is respecting his living will and had his body donated to the Boston University School of Medicine for medical research and training. A polio survivor from the 1916 epidemic, Stecia graduated from Brooklyn College with a bachelor of arts degree in 1933. Mr. Pebbles was born in Concord, N.H., Sept. 3, 1949, the son of Carl James Pebbles Jr. and Pansy Hoyt. Raised in Concord, he was a graduate of Concord High School. He went on to serve in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1972. On Sept. 30, 1972, he married Julie Locke in Concord. Shortly thereafter, in 1973, they moved to Dalton, where they have resided ever since. Carl went to work for Fitch Fuel of Lancaster and started his schooling for a plumber's license. Eventually he acquired both master plumber and master electrician licenses, and for the past 20-plus years he has owned and operated Carl Pebbles Plumbing and Heating in Lancaster. He was also the landlord for two local apartment buildings. He was a member of the Groveton Moose Lodge and had close affiliations with many other local organizations. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and helping children. He was a member of 4-H as a youth, and he devoted time to that organization in his adult years. He is survived by his wife, Julie B. (Locke) Pebbles of Dalton; a son, Carl James Pebbles IV of Manchester; a daughter, Melissa D. Pebbles of Lancaster; his mother of Concord, N.H.; a brother, Robert Pebbles of Concord; three sisters, Peggy Alquist of Concord, Carol Hegarty of Amesbury, Mass., and Carrie Joe Maxham-Murphy of Penacook; one granddaughter, Emily Marie Day-Pebbles of Lancaster; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and close extended family. , 91, of Wilmington, Del., and Landaff, N.H., died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at his residence in Delaware. Fulton Niece was named after the famous steamboat inventor, Robert Fulton. He was a 1931 graduate of the Webb Institute of Naval Architecture. He went on to work for Gibbs and Cox, a naval architecture firm in New York City. While working for Gibbs and Cox he also served in the Naval Reserves, until World War II, when he went into active duty in the U.S. Navy, later retiring as a lieutenant commander. After his naval retirement he went to work for Sun Oil Company as a project engineer, retiring in 1971. He was a member of the Landaff United Methodist Church, Landaff, N.H., where he was a former treasurer. Mr. Niece was predeceased by his wife, Blanche Niece, in 1992, and his son, Stephen K. Niece, in 2000. He is survived by two daughters, Betsy Niece of Newark, Del., and Dorothy N. Wiggins of Wilmington, Del.; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Services will be held Saturday, April 14 at 11 a.m. at the Landaff United Methodist Church, where family and friends may visit at 10 a.m. Burial will be private, at the convenience of the family. , 83, of South Barre Road, South Barre, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at his home. Born May 25, 1917 in Lynn, Mass., he was the son of John Edward and Josephine (Roche) Anderson. He attended Lynn Elementary School and Lynn Classical High School and spent his young life on the ocean. In 1966, he obtained his G.E.D. from Spaulding High School in Barre. In 1939 he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps. On. Feb. 13, 1941, he entered the U.S. Army. He served with General Patton in the tanks of the Fourth Armored Division. His duty took him through Normandy, France and the Rhineland of Germany, and he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. On June 18, 1945, he was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant. He has maintained close friendships with several of his war buddies, including Charles Schmidt of Pennsylvania. On Dec. 31, 1941, he married Margie Alice Curtis. After World War II they settled in Wells River, where they lived for 17 years, raising their family. In 1962 they moved to South Barre. While in Wells River, he worked for H.O. Taylor Chevrolet as parts manager. He served as Chief of the Wells River Fire Department, was active in the Catholic Church, and the Boy Scouts of America. Many young men, in their later years, would come back to thank Andy for the experiences he provided them as scouts, from mountaineering on Mt. Washington to community service. After moving to South Barre, he was employed by Gable Auto Paint, Perry Auto, and he retired from Formula Ford. He was a member of the American Legion Post 10 and the VFW MacKenzie-Webster Post 790, both of Barre. His lifelong hobbies included woodworking, skating, softball and hockey. He remained active in the Boy Scouts of America and ran the adult recreation program for several years at Barre Town Elementary School. He is remembered by many as the 70-year-old on the local softball and floor hockey teams, often riding his mountain bike as transportation. An avid reader, he exhausted the libraries on subjects of history and World War II. He has maintained a journal each day since his daily letters from overseas to his beloved wife during the war. He is survived by his wife, of South Barre; his children, Sandy Roberts and her husband Ted of Wells River, John "Jack" Anderson and his wife Pat of Bethlehem, N.H., David Anderson of Barre, Thomas Anderson and his wife Holly of South Barre, and Laurie LaPlant and her husband Steve of Colchester; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Warren Anderson and his wife Nancy of Lynn, Mass.; and a sister, Dorothy Orr and her husband Jim of Gainesville, Ga. He was predeceased by a brother, Gustaf Anderson, and a sister, Patricia Dill. A service of remembrance will be held in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy St., Barre, Saturday, April 14 at 11 a.m. Later interment will be made in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph. 81, of Groveton, died Friday, April 13, 2001, at Morrison Nursing Home after a brief illness. Born in Lancaster, N.H., the son of Irving A. and Mariette (Drew) Hinkley, he moved to Groveton in 1947 after returning from the military. He grew up in Lancaster and graduated from Lancaster Academy, Class of 1937. He received his bachelor of science degree from Bowdoin College in 1941 and played on the cum laude football team. He received his doctor of medicine degree from Yale Medical School in 1944 and interned at Worcester, Mass. City Hospital from 1944 to 1945. He served in the United States Army from 1945 to 1947, attaining the rank of captain, post surgeon, Ogden (Utah) Ordnance Depot. He had a general practice of medicine in Groveton from 1947 to 1982, and retired from medicine in 1984. He was a member of the Weeks Hospital medical staff from 1947 to 1984, serving as president of staff for two years. He served on the Board of Trustees from 1985 until his death, was a member of the New Hampshire Medical Society, and the Coos County Medical Society, serving as president for two years. He served on the Judicial Council and the Rural Health Committee of the New Hampshire Medical Society, and was appointed to the New Hampshire Milk Sanitation Board by Governor John King. He was a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians from 1954 until his death, and was elected a charter fellow of AAFP in 1975. He developed the first cardiac care unit at Weeks Memorial Hospital. He served as the Groveton and Stark Health Officer for many years. He was a member of the Groveton School Board for nine years and served as chairman for three years. He was on the building committee for the new high school. He was a trustee of the York Educational Foundation from its inception. He was the director and past president of the Groveton Foundation for many years. He belonged to the American Legion Post 17 in Groveton since 1947. He was a director of the Peoples National Bank, Groveton, for many years, serving as president from 1976 to 1981. He was the Advisory Board chairman for the Berlin City Bank, Groveton Branch, from 1981 until his death. His hobbies included playing duplicate bridge, at which he attained the status of senior master; golfing with his many golf companions, of which he was proud to have shot scores in the 70s in each of seven decades; and candlepin bowling, in which he bowled in local leagues for many years. He belonged to the American Numismatic Association and Granite State Post Card Collectors Club. Doc especially enjoyed keeping up with his grandchildren and their activities. He is survived by one son, Dr. William Hinkley of St. Louis, Mo.; one daughter, Mrs. Glenn (Caroline "Dani") Lunn of Whitefield, N.H.; one granddaughter, Katherine Hinkley of Wentzville, Mo.; two grandsons, Jeffrey Lunn of Waltham, Mass., and William Lunn of Mystic, Conn.; one sister-in-law, Grace Hinkley of Lancaster; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Katherine Hinkley, Jan. 18, 2001; and one brother, Walter "Bud" Hinkley. There will be no calling hours, at Dr. Hinkley's request. She was born in Laconia, N.H., May 1, 1922, the daughter of George and Amanda (Desrochers) Roberts Sr., and attended school in Berlin, N.H., and Walden. Mrs. Brock had worked for Crawford House, Crawford Notch, N.H.; Lisbon Furniture, Lisbon, N.H.; and Burndy Corporation, Palmer Brothers Dry Cleaners and the Sunshine Laundromat, all in St. Johnsbury. She delivered papers for The Caledonian-Record and The Burlington Free Press, drove a school bus for Peacham and drove a bus for St. Johnsbury Community School. She married Foster W. Hastie, June 24, 1942; he predeceased her June 29, 1951. She married Hamilton C. Brock, July 18, 1953; he predeceased her Sept. 21, 1965. She had attended the Community College of Vermont in St. Johnsbury, and was a member of the West Barnet Presbyterian Church. She was married to Herbert Thor Borgstrom, April 24, 1949, in Union City, N.J. He died in 1989. Alice enjoyed knitting, sewing and reading. Sandy was very involved in a Christian summer camp program located on Newfound Lake in Bristol, N.H., as a camp counselor, dishwasher and all-around cheerleader. She was also a motivating force in encouraging her husband in their privately owned business, always encouraging, listening and helping with a smile. , 80, of Lyndonville, passed away Monday, April 16, 2001, at the Pines Rehabilitation and Health Center in Lyndonville. She was born Jan. 1, 1921 in St. Johnsbury, the daughter of the late Lucien and Marianne (Gagon) Dusseault. She graduated from Lyndon Institute. Before retiring she worked for Glovers in St. Johnsbury and for Lyndon State College. She is survived by her sister, Lucienne Leroux of Port Charlotte, Fla.; four nieces, Jacqueline Trychon of Worcester, Mass., Rena Goulet of St. Ferdinand, Canada, Alice Mellor of Yarmouth, Maine, and Suzanne Finney of Port Charlotte, Fla.; and by several great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. , 81, of the Morrison Nursing Home in Whitefield, N.H., died there Monday evening, April 16, 2001. Mr. Simonds was born in Waltham, Mass., May 10, 1919, the son of Raymond H. and Hazel (Spencer) Simonds. Raised in Belmont, Mass., he was a graduate of Williston Academy. In 1942 he entered the U.S. Air Force, where he trained to become a pilot. In 1943 he received his wings, and before going off to war married Hope Wheeler on Christmas Eve. At 24 years of age he was commissioned a B-52 bomber and during World War II was responsible for delivering supplies to Allied ground forces and bombing many military installations in Germany, including Messerschmitt Aircraft plants in Regensburg, Germany. For his accomplishments he received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Force Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Purple Heart, and his entire division received a president's citation. For many years he was the plant manager of Precision Coating Company in Dedham, Mass. He retired to Venice, Florida, and in June of 1999 moved near his family in New Hampshire due to failing health. He was predeceased by his wife, Hope. Family members include his daughter, Deborah A. Dineen of Jefferson, N.H.; a son, Christopher G. Simonds of Englewood, Fla.; a sister, Barbara LaPlace of Ponce Inlet, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Scott Dineen and Shauna Dineen, both of Lancaster, and Alicia Simonds of Foxboro, Mass. There are no calling hours. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. , 94, formerly of Hardwick, died early Wednesday morning, April 18, 2001, at the Maple Lane Nursing and Retirement Home in Barton, where she had made her home for 10 years. She was born Oct. 11, 1906 in East Hardwick, the daughter of Henry A. and Rachel (Barber) Joslyn. She attended public schools and graduated from Hardwick Academy, Class of 1925. Susan was first married to Carleton J. Batten, and later to Guy Larrabee. She and Carleton co-owned the Batten Potato Farm in East Hardwick for over 40 years. They were members of the Greensboro Co-op when the first potato warehouse was built in Greensboro Bend. They later built a warehouse in East Hardwick. They specialized in growing certified seed potatoes, and were very active in the Vermont Certified Seed Potato Growers Association. She was a homemaker for several years, and enjoyed assisting the elderly through the Senior Companion Volunteer Program in St. Johnsbury. She retired in 1989. Susan was a member of the United Church of Hardwick and the Women's Fellowship, Circle 8 of that church. She was a former member of the Riverside Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Hardwick. She will be remembered for her beautiful rose garden. Other interests included sewing and knitting sweaters for family members. Survivors include a son, James Batten and his wife Anne of East Hardwick; two grandchildren, Robert Batten and his wife Lydia of Pittsfield, Mass., and Barbara Schoolcraft and her husband Greg of Peacham; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Josephine Demick of Irasburg; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Susan also considered the staff and friends at the Maple Lane Nursing Home to be her extended family. There will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held later in the spring in the Sanborn Cemetery in East Hardwick, with the Rev. Dr. June Totten officiating. , 88, of Springfield, Mass., died Thursday, April 19, 2001, after a long illness. Born in Roxbury, Mass., Mrs. Devlin graduated from Girls' Latin School, and Emmanuel College, Class of 1934. She was the daughter of James H. McInerney Sr., a Boston City Councilor and five-term member of the state legislature, and Elizabeth Buckley McInerney, a leader in the women's suffrage movement. In 1938, she married Dr. William J. Devlin and moved to Springfield. Active in social service causes, Mrs. Devlin was a member and past president of the Hampden District Medical Society Ladies' Auxiliary, the St. Nicholas Cotillion Committee, and the St. Paul's Women's Guild. She supported Massachusetts Citizens for Life and Birthright, and performed volunteer services at Springfield Hospital (now Baystate Medical Center), Wesson Maternity Hospital, and Mercy Hospital. Mrs. Devlin was a founding member, and chair of the board of directors, of the Springfield School Volunteers, and volunteered in the libraries of Washington Street School, Forest Park Middle School, and others. She also was active in one-on-one mentoring, student history-research projects, etc. In 1967, she earned a degree in library science at Westfield State College. The Devlins were founding members of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Parish in 1961. They enjoyed vacationing at Lake Sunapee in New Hampshire for 48 years. Mrs. Devlin was predeceased by her husband, Dr. William J. Devlin, in 1979; three children, infant Mary Margaret in 1944, Elizabeth Claire Walsh in 1979, and James William Devlin in 1994; and a brother, James H. McInerney III, earlier this month. She is survived by two daughters, office manager Gertrude Mary Devlin of St. Johnsbury and Lyndonville, and nurse Katherine Alice Devlin of Springfield, Mass.; one son, architect William Joseph Devlin of Springfield; 15 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. , 78, of Waterford, died Wednesday evening, April 18, 2001, at his home with his family by his side. He was born Aug. 5, 1922, in Littleton, N.H., the son of Rolla J. Sr. and Beulah (Wright) Wright. He married Audrie Powers Oct. 4, 1947. In his early years he enjoyed working with his father on the family farm. Later he worked in building construction, Purina Mills in St. Johnsbury, Old Fox in Lyndonville, and was the maintenance man at Moonlight Ridge apartments in St. Johnsbury for many years. He was also known for working in the woods cutting and trucking logs, pulp and firewood. Mr. Wright spent many years serving his church and maintaining the building and grounds there. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, maple sugaring and spending time with his family, of which he was very proud. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Audrie Wright of Waterford; two sons and their wives, Leonard and Lanette Wright of Danville, and Lyle and Sheryl Wright of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; three daughters, E. Lynne Mitchell and her husband Douglas of Fort Ann, N.Y., Kathryn Bennett of Waterford, and Amy Brill and her husband Scott of Sutton; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three brothers and their wives, Raymond and Phyllis Wright of Hendersonville, N.C., Wayne and Betty Wright of St. Johnsbury, and Dale and Eunice Wright of Burton, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Adria Wright of St. Johnsbury; and nieces and nephews. Mary came to Island Pond with her husband in 1933 and lived there the rest of her life. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and St. James Church. She enjoyed having family members come to visit. She was an avid gardener and nurtured her plants with tender care. On Feb. 11, 1930, she married Gustave Testut, who predeceased her in 1966. She was also predeceased by brothers Stanley and Joseph. She is survived by her sons, Gilbert of Branford, Conn., and George and his wife Barbara of Island Pond; eight grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. On Nov. 1, 1942, she married Urban Alfred Flynn Sr., who predeceased her March 9, 1997. Mrs. Flynn was a devoted mother and grandmother. Among her hobbies she enjoyed cooking, knitting, bowling, crocheting, and spending time with her grandchildren. During her lifetime she held memberships with the Homemakers Club of Derby, the North Country Mountaineers, and the Newport Senior Center. , 81, of 13 Mango Trail, Baltimore, Md., and former Woodsville, N.H./Wells River, Vt., resident, died April 18, 2001, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Baltimore. Mr. Zuncore was born Sept. 9, 1919, in Newbury, Vt., the son of Michael John and Christina Marjorie (Millette) Zuncore. He served as a first lieutenant in the United States Army Air Corps.; while in the Air Corps. he graduated from the Army Air Forces Advanced Flying School in Ellington, Texas. As a pilot he flew in China, India and Burma, and was awarded several medals upon his discharge. Mr. Zuncore worked as a salesman for Hub Furniture Company in Baltimore. He was a member of the American Legion Ross-Wood Post 20, Woodsville, N.H. He is survived by his friend, Ms. Frankie Maynor of Baltimore, Md. There will be no calling hours. , of St. Johnsbury, died Wednesday, April 18, 2000, after an extended illness. Born Jan. 2, 1926 in Greenville, S.C., Bertha was the devoted daughter of the late Thomas and Virginia Elias Koury. Bertha attended public schools in Greenville, and graduated from Greenville High School in 1945. She attended Furman University, also in Greenville, earning a bacheler of arts degree in art, education, dramatics and speech. After graduating from Furman University, Bertha moved to Lyndon Center in 1951 and began her teaching career at Lyndon Institute. She taught art, drama and forensics until she retired in 1990. During the course of her career, Bertha was devoted to her family, her students and her community. She lived in the Mathewson House, the girls' dormitory at Lyndon Institute, serving as supervisor and dormitory proctor for 15 years. Bertha served as the Vermont Representative to the New England Drama Counsel for eight years, and also served as Representative to the Vermont Headmaster Drama Council for 15 years. She served as trustee for Lyndon Institute and chair of the Education Committee of the Trustees since her retirement. In appreciation of her devotion, dedication and service to Lyndon Institute, to the community and to the arts, Bertha received many noteworthy honors including a commendation by the Honorable Richard Snelling, governor of Vermont, and Stephan Kaegan, Vermont Commissioner of Education, for excellence and dedication in art education; recognition by the Vermont Council on the Arts for distinguished services to the arts; being recognized twice as the outstanding teacher in art, drama and forensics in the Northeast Kingdom; the Vermont Drama Council Award for dedication and service in the advancement of theater in Vermont; and the Outstanding Speech Educator Award for distinguish service in Vermont. Bertha was also named Citizen of the Year for outstanding and distinguished services in the field of art education in the Northeast Kingdom. In 1985, Bertha was named the National State Teacher of the Year for the state of Vermont. Bertha was a talented and accomplished artist and a freelance photographer. In 1970, she was commissioned to restore the "Stations of the Cross" at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, in Lyndon Center. Over the years, she traversed the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont with her camera and artist's eye, capturing on film the beauty of rurher photos appear as postcards in gift shops throughout Vermont. Despite a decline in health in recent months, Bertha composed a collection of her favorite photos in a book she titled "My Kingdom," which is expected to be published soon. While Bertha was modest about her personal achievements, she was most proud of and considered her greatest professional accomplishments to be the innumerable local, state and regional individual and team honors and awards received by her many students over the years. But despite the numerous awards and accomplishments, her true joy and rewards were in the lifelong friendships made teaching, guiding, developing and inspiring more than 7,000 students over the course of 39 years as an educator at Lyndon Institute. Bertha was predeceased by four sisters, Miss Mary Helen Koury and Mrs. Alfred L. (Victoria) Saad, both of Greenville, S.C., and Lyla Koury and Sebena Koury, both of Beirut, Lebanon; three brothers, Joseph Koury, John T. Koury, and George W. Koury, and by her twin brother, Sidney A. Koury, all of Greenville, S.C. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Ned W. (Sarah) Handy of St. Johnsbury, and Mrs. Louis F. (Louise) Parker of Elizabethtown, N.C.; and 25 nieces and nephews, 25 great-nieces and great-nephews, and one great-great-nephew. He was born April 18, 1942, in Camden, N.J., the son of Leonard C. Sr. and Eleanor (Clermont) Mull. He grew up in Magnolia, N.J., learning the bakery trade there. After moving to the White River Junction area he worked for Tip Top Bakery for many years. He owned and operated Village Baker in West Lebanon and White River Junction for many years. After he closed the bakery he worked for Pinochio's Restaurant in West Lebanon. Most recently he was a distributor of snacks and potato chips in the St. Johnsbury and Newport area. Lenny enjoyed baking and cooking, gardening, visits to the ocean, playing cribbage, music, electrical work and tinkering on mechanical things. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with family and friends and his two dogs, Suzy and Simba. On July 1, 1989, he married Krystine (Newton) Mull, who survives him and lives in East Haven. He is also survived by two sons, Reynard Mull and his wife Janice of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, and Thomas Mull Sr. of East Haven; six grandchildren; his mother, Eleanor Mull of Newport, Vt.; two sisters, Gloria Owens and her husband Richard of Blackwood, N.J., and Delores Midore of Saylorsburg, Pa.; two nieces and one nephew; his mother-in-law and father-in-law of Bethlehem, N.H., and his brother-in-law and his family of St. Johnsbury. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 27 at 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, on Route 5 south in Lyndon, with Bishop Glen Goodrich officiating. Burial will follow in the West Lebanon, N.H., cemetery at 12:30 p.m. Friends may call on the family Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. , 88, died peacefully at her St. Johnsbury home, Monday, April 23, 2001. Born in Mount Vernon, N.Y., Sept. 11, 1912, to Louise (Reynolds) and Thomas Smith, she spent her youth in New York State and Connecticut. Marjorie graduated from the College of New Rochelle, New York, in 1934, with a degree in English. She taught high school English briefly, then worked as a secretary for such companies as McGraw-Hill Publishing Company in New York City, N.Y. She married Harry W. Childs Oct. 25, 1957, in St. Petersburg, Fla. After Harry's retirement, they moved to Henderson, N.C., where Marjorie lived until moving to St. Johnsbury in 1993 to be near family. Marjorie was passionate about good food, humor, classical music, opera, theater, good books, travel, and her family and friends. She never missed an opportunity to indulge her interests. She took special delight in listening to book tapes, donating any tapes she purchased to the St. Johnsbury Athenaeum so that others might share in that delight. Marjorie was an active member of South Congregational Church, and volunteered at Adams School. She was also a member of Catamount Arts and the Fairbanks Museum. Marjorie was predeceased by her husband Harry, who died in September 1977, and by her parents. Surviving relatives include her step-daughter and husband, Helen and Robert Siviter, and three step-grandchildren and their families, William and Ann Siviter (Robert, Darby and Jenipher), Barbara and Gary Keller (Brett, Kolleen), and Tawney White (Melissa, Stephanie), all of St. Petersburg, Fla. She is also survived by David and Nancy Reynolds (Carrie, Megan, Brynn), and Bill Reynolds of St. Johnsbury, Gerald and Darlene Reynolds of Fairfield, Conn., Judy Reynolds of Tucson, Ariz., and several other cousins. In addition, she leaves behind her special friend, Bertha Dalton of Hendersonville, N.C. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service in celebration of Marjorie's life is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at South Congregational Church, 1052 Main St., St. Johnsbury. Interment will be at a later date at the Edneyville United Methodist Cemetery, Hendersonville, N.C. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marjorie's name may be made to the Northeast Kingdom Classical Series, 101 Hunter Farm Rd., East Burke, VT 05832.

, 86, of Proctorsville, Vt., died quietly at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Tuesday, April 24, 2001, after a brief illness. She was born Nov. 29, 1914, in Rahway, N.J., the daughter of James and Jeannie (McKay) Smith. Margaret graduated from Vail Dean School for Girls in 1932 and from Columbia Presbyterian School of Nursing in 1937. She attended the Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School from 1941 to 1942. Margaret was an ensign in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1944. She married Edward L. "Ned" Parke, Feb. 3, 1944, who died Aug. 30, 1984. Margaret leaves behind her loving family, including her two daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Cornelius Bensen of Oxford, Maine, and Peggy and Richard Svec of Proctorsville, Vt.; two sons and daughters-in-law, E. Lauck and Elizabeth Parke of Richmond, Vt., and John Parke-Voelske and Marianne Voelske of Berlin, Germany; six grandchildren, Margaret and Kathryn Svec of Proctorsville, Mckay and William Crowley of Anderson, S.C., Cornelius and Megan Bensen of Mechanic Falls, Maine, Elizabeth and Julia Parke of Richmond, Vt.; two great-granddaughters, Chelsea and Dagney Crowley of Anderson, S.C.; a sister, Barbara Smith, of St. Johnsbury, and a brother, James Smith of Monroe Township, N.J. Margaret was an avid reader who enjoyed painting, writing and music. Due to Margaret's great love of children and books, memorial contributions may be made to the Building for Books Sustaining Fund, in care of Cavendish Town Elementary School, P.O. Box 236, Proctorsville, VT 05153. There will be a private family service at a later time. , 86, of Dalton Road, passed away at Littleton Regional Hospital on Thursday, April 26, 2001. A native of Littleton, N.H., Dorothy was born a daughter of Olin E. and Mae (McAllister) Berry on Nov. 24, 1914. She attended schools and graduated from Littleton High School in 1933. Dorothy was employed at Connors & Hoffman Footwear until her retirement in 1977. She was a member of the Dalton Community Club, the Dalton Historical Society, and Riverside Grange 137 in Dalton. She was a volunteer at the Senior Center of Gilman, Vt. Dorothy enjoyed knitting and berry-picking, and loved to fish with her husband, Leonard. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. Surviving family members include her husband, Leonard O. Carbonneau of Dalton; three daughters, Linda Baker of Holderness, N.H., Margaret and John Pilgrim of Littleton, Paula and Butch Thompson of Littleton; one brother, Clyde Carbonneau of Lakeport, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 29, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Dalton Congregational U.C.C. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. at the church with the Rev. , 85, of South Berwick, Maine, died suddenly Thursday, April 26, 2001, at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover. She was born in Craftsbury, Vt., July 13, 1915, the daughter of Victor and Bessie (Colburn) Gilbert, and had lived in the South Berwick area for many years. Prior to her retirement she was an assembler at the meter department at the General Electric Company in Somersworth, N.H. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of Somersworth, N.H., where she taught primary in the Church School and was a member of the Relief Society of the Church. She is survived by a daughter, Leola L. Amadon of Lunenburg; a son, Gene Hawkins of South Berwick, Maine; eight grandchildren; a brother, Frederick Gilbert of Perryville, Md.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank W. Hawkins; a son, Arnold F. Hawkins; a brother, Richard Gilbert; and a sister, Lois Macray. Relatives and friends are invited to call Tuesday, May 1, at the McIntire-McCooey Funeral Home, 301 Main St., South Berwick, and Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Tates Brook Road, Somersworth, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. with Bishop Samuel S.
