, 75, of Bethel, died Nov. 5. Born in 1923 in Worcester, Mass., he was the son of John and Pauline (Lambutis) Balser. He was educated in Massachusetts schools and graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester, Mass. In 1947, he married Elizabeth Johnston. He worked as a foreman at the Wyman-Gordon Company in No. Grafton, Mass. He and his wife moved to the Camp Brook area of Bethel in 1984. He was a member of the St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Bethel. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dr. John Paul and Richard; two daughters, Betty Rozanski and Janice Powers; two brothers; a sister; nine grandchildren.

, 71, of Williamstown, died Nov. 4. Born in 1926 in Waits River, he was the son of Martin and Ella (Hood) Tillotson. He attended schools in Waits River and served in the Army during WWII. In 1954, he married Shirley Downing. He had been a milk hauler and also worked as a quarryman for Wells Lamson Quarry in Barre Town. More recently he had been employed at the Booth Brothers Dairy, retiring in 1989. He was affiliated with the Waits River Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife; a son, Douglas; two daughters, Debra Booth and Donna Tillotson; seven grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

, 64, of Waterbury, died Nov. 4. Born in 1934, she was the daughter of Victor and Pearl (Wilkins) Houston. She attended schools in Stowe. In 1955, she married Paul Austin, who died in January, 1998. She was employed at the Vermont State Hospital, retiring in 1987. She was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Waterbury. Survivors include two daughters, Penny Watson and Lorna Letourneau; a son, Anthony; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters; nieces and nephews.

, 70, of Barre, died Nov. 3. Born in 1928 in Boston, Mass., she was the daughter of Herbert and Gertrude (Kennedy) Bartlett. She attended Boston area schools and earned a GED at the Barre Adult Learning Center. In 1948, she married Clyde Valley, who died in 1981. She had been employed at Sprague Electric Co. and later at Malden Mills in Websterville. Survivors include a son, William; a daughter, Patricia Leno; two grandchildren; a sister; nieces and nephews.

, 88, of Stowe, died Nov. 3. Born in 1917 in Geneseo, N.Y., she was the daughter of John Howey and Salome Beckwith Booth. The family moved to Florida when she was 11. She graduated from Rollins College and became an artist. In 1939, she married Edmond Walton, who died in 1963. She married A. John Hickmott in 1967, who died in 1975. Survivors include two sons, John and Stephen Blodgett; two daughters, Salome "Sally" Hancock and Claire Blodgett; five grandchildren; a sister; a brother.

, 61, of Berlin, died Oct. 30. Born in 1937 in New York City, he was the son of Ture and Anna (Jonsson) Carlson. He moved to Montpelier when he was six years old to live with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hermonson. He graduated from Montpelier High School. In 1957, he married Shirley Olson. In 1986, he married Martha Blaine. He was employed by Olson Construction and in 1971, started Bridges inc., which he operated until retiring in 1990. Survivors include his wife; several cousins.

She had been married to Gideon Burnham Jr. She had been employed by the Robbins Nursing Home in East Hardwick, the East Hardwick School lunch program and the Come and Eat Restaurant. More recently she was employed at the Stowe Center and the Charlmont Restaurant, retiring in the 1970s. She was affiliated with the United Church of East Hardwick. Survivors include three sons, Gideon III, Kendall and David; two daughters, Susan Burke and Lori Shatney; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister; an aunt; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

, 95, of Randolph, died Nov. 7. Born in 1903 in Jericho, she was the daughter of Leonard and Anna (Scholier) Mitchel. She attended Jericho schools and graduated from University of Vermont. In 1931, she married Alexander Barrette, who died in 1962. She operated the Barrette Realty Co. in Burlington and later the Lone Butternut agency in Jericho, retiring in 1972. She was a member of the First Congregational Church. Survivors include cousins.

He was in the plumbing business and in 1954, began selling cars at Walker Motors and later at Cody Chevrolet. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gordon and Ronald; a daughter, Sandra (Mrs. Wendell) Maxham; a brother; a sister; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

, 87, of Greensboro, died Nov. 10. Born in 1911 in Rochester, N.H., he was the son of Wilfred and Mary (Vachon) Mercier. His family moved to Greensboro when he was 13 and he graduated from Greensboro High School and from Middlebury College. He operated a farm in Greensboro and later was employed as a caretaker and night watchman at Sterling College in Craftsbury Common. He was a member of the United Church of Greensboro. Survivors include two nephews, Dwight Webber and Edmund Webber; three nieces, Charlene Calcagni, Ruth Ingersoll and Winifred Dahlberg; several cousins and other relatives.

, 71, formerly of Plainfield, died Nov. 19. Born in 1927 in Plainfield, he was the son of Eugene and Emma (Turney) Spicer. He grew up in Middlesex and graduated from Montpelier High School. He served in the Navy during WWII and in 1948, married Avis Annis. They lived in East Montpelier, Cabot and CA, before moving to Rutland in 1961. He was employed as an area assigned mechanic for the Vermont Highway Department, retiring in 1993. He was a former member of the Rutland Town Volunteer Fire Department and of the Rutland County Sheriff's Department. He was also a member of the Church of the Wildwood in Chittenden. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Linda Chamberlain; a son, William; a sister; a brother; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

In 1944, he married Mildred Fahner, who died in 1985. He was employed as a carpenter for Metayer Construction and other companies in the Waterbury area. He later worked for the buildings division of the Vermont State Hospital, retiring in 1985. She was a member of Montpelier Unitarian Church. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Joan Kirby; a brother; two grandsons; a great-granddaughter.
