, 81, of Middlesex, died Dec. 22. Born in 1915 in PA, he was the son of Morton Alexander Ross and Mary Elizabeth Wilcox. He grew up in PA and later married Gladys E. VanderWyden. He served with the Army Air Force during WWII. After the war, he began a career as an accountant. He and his wife moved to Castleton after his retirement and recently moved to Middlesex. Survivors include his wife; sons, Ronald, David and Dennis; one daughter, Kate; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers; one sister.

, 74, of Randolph, died Dec. 21. Born in 1922 in Randolph, he was the son of George and Glenna (Cushman) Bruce Sr. He attended Randolph schools and graduated from Randolph High School. He served in the Army during WWII. He was a linotype operator most of his life, working for the Herald in Randolph, Garth Blow Printing in Barre and at Beacon Printing in Randolph, retiring in 1992. Survivors include two sisters, Dorothy Havey and Winsome Mason; many nieces and nephews.

, 92, of South Barre, died Dec. 22. Born in 1904 in Williamstown, she was the daughter of Joseph and Melvina (Bishop) DeCoteau. She attended schools in Williamstown. In 1921, she married Edmond Bisson, who died in 1971. She was a member of the St. Sylvester Church. Survivors include three sons, Donald, David and James; three daughters, Thelma LaRochelle, Barbara (Mrs. Albert) Fraser and Patricia (Mrs. Alfred) Lavoie; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

, 60, of Worcester, died Dec. 21. Born in 1936 in Manchester, N.H., she was the daughter of Clarence and Mildred (Steward) Downes. She received her education in the Manchester school system and graduated from Central High School. She later graduated from Nasson College in Springvale, Maine. She was a mail carrier in New Hampshire and in Morrisville. In 1972, she married Robert Compagna and they owned and operated the family farm. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Wayne Jr. and Matthew; two daughters, Deborah Tallman and Bobbi Compagna; five grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

In 1926, she married Carleton Allen, who died in 1967. She was a member of the First Church of Marlborough. Survivors include one son, Norman; a daughter-in-law, Beverly Allen; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grand-children; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In 1946, she married Roger Lee Slayton. She was a member of the United Church of Hardwick. She had been assistant librarian at Judevine Memorial Library in Hardwick. Survivors include two sons, Edward and Robert; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters; one niece.

She graduated from the Oak Grove Preparatory School in Maine and earned a bachelor of arts degree in economics from Connecticut College in New London, Conn. In 1949, she married Daniel Ruggles III. She was chairman of the Community Concert Association, director of volunteers of the Red Cross, served on the board of trustees of the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. Survivors include her husband; one sister, Estelle Parsons Zimroth; two nieces; one nephew; cousins.

, 83, of Chelsea, died Dec. 21. Born in 1913 in Addison, MI, she was the daughter of Ralph and Helen (Anderson) Cherry. She graduated from Michigan State University. She received her masters in Speech Pathology at Southern Connecticut State University. She joined the faculty there and operated the student speech clinic. In 1943, she married Alex C. Hotchkiss. They moved to Chelsea in 1980, following retirement. Survivors include her husband; one son, George; two daughters, Janet Letitia Scheidel and Catherine Dee Hotchkiss.

He attended St. Monica Elementary School and graduated from Spaulding High School. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the 9th Infantry Regiment of the 2nd Infantry Division. He joined his father and brothers in the operation and management of the Rouleau Granite Company in Barre. He left active management in 1977, due to health reasons. He was currently on the board of directors. In 1957, he married Marlynn Giacherio. He was a member of the St. Monica Church. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Lynn Ann Routhier; three sons, Randy, Brad and Greg; 12 grandchildren; four brothers; three sisters; many nieces and nephews.

In 1969, he married Enna Morey. He owned and operated an auto repair shop in Claremont, N.H. Moved to Calais in 1969 and was employed by Bailey Brothers until retirement in 1977. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Anne Grimm; two sons, David and Larry; three stepdaughters, Gaie St. John, Bonnie Holmquest and Rosemary Oswald; one sister; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

He was employed by the Central Vermont Railroad in St. Albans. He came to Barre in 1928 where he was employed at Railroad Express, retiring in 1956. He also operated Ray's Glass Shop and a commercial vegetable and gladiola garden. He was a veteran of the Marine Corps, serving in WWII. In 1928, he married Evelyn Gilcris. In 1950, he married Alice Cecchini, who died in 1977. Survivors include his companion, Ruth Holmes; three sons, Silas (Bob), Donald and Kenneth; one daughter, Eleanor (Mrs. Robert) Beede; two step-daughters, Priscilla (Mrs. Wendell) Therrien and Pauline (Mrs. Donald) Smedy; one stepson, Richard Cecchini; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one sister; nieces and nephews.

He was also an auctioneer in the central Vermont area and a member of the Hedding United Methodist Church.
