She attended Montpelier graded schools and graduated from Montpelier High School. She married Earl J. Montague and they owned and operated several businesses. She was a member of St. Augustine Church. Survivors include her husband; one son, Arthur; one daughter, Dianna Belliveau; two grandchildren; one sister; several nieces and nephews.

, 87, of Randolph Center, died March 3. Born in 1909 in Randolph, she was the daughter of Gerald and Florence (Bennett) Fish. She was educated in Randolph schools and became an elementary teacher. She worked in area stores and was a clerk at the Randolph Center Post Office for 20 years. In 1933, she married Preston P. Purple. They owned and operated Purple's Hilltop Orchard. He died in 1987. Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn (Mrs. James) Lumbra; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

, 88, formerly of Montpelier and a resident of West Hartford, Conn. since 1940, died March 6. Born in Montpelier, he graduated from Montpelier High School. He was senior highway engineer with the State of Connecticut and was co-owner of Sellew and Gitchell Land Surveyors. He served with the Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Universalist Church of West Hartford. His first wife, Arvilla (Sachsenhauser) Gitchell, is deceased. Survivors include his present wife, Barbara; two daughters, Ruth Gitchell and Alice Gitchell; two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

, 85, of Berlin, died March 13. Born in 1911, she was the daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth (Fraykor) Brecho. She was married to Leo McMahon, who is deceased. She was employed at the former W.T. Grant Store in New York state before moving to Montpelier. She was a member of the St. Augustine Church. Her only known survivors are nieces and nephews.

He received his early education at the former Quarry School in Graniteville and graduated from Williamstown High School. He served with the Army. He was an auto mechanic and body work specialist. In 1978, he married Connie Henes; they later divorced. In 1987, he married Deborah Smith. Sur-vivors include his wife; two daughters, Jennifer Robar and Amanda Robar; his father and his wife, Fred and Lee Robar; his stepmother, Rachel Robar; two brothers; six sisters; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He grew up in Graniteville where he attended Holy Ghost School and graduated from Spaulding High School. In 1938, he married Loretta Desilets. He retired from Rock of Ages Corp. after 46 years of service. He was a member of St. Sylvester Church. Survivors include his wife; one son, Philip; one daughter, Claire Daniels; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

, 71, of Waterbury, died March 5. Born in 1926 in Shoreham, he was the son of Ira and Belle (Blair) Sollace. He attended schools in Waitsfield and served with the Navy during WWII. In earlier years, he worked for W.E. Collins Ford dealership in Waterbury and in 1954, moved to California. He was employed as an autobody painter at Ford and Lincoln Mercury manufacturing plant. He later became a commercial air conditioning repair technician. Since he returned to Vermont, he had worked in the maintenance division at the Vermont State Hospital in Waterbury. Survivors include a son, James Michael Sollace; two grandsons; nieces and nephews.

He came to Barre with his parents in 1955 where he received his early education and graduated from Spaulding High School. He received his BA in education from Lyndon State College and a BS in physical therapy from the University of Vermont. He had been employed as a physical therapist at CVH. In 1988, he married Susan McLellan. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Nathan and Gabriel; his parents; one brother; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Cruickshank, who died in 1947. She was a member of United Methodist Church in Northfield Falls. Survivors include a son, Lawrence; two daughters, Mary Senter and Ladora Binns; two sisters; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild.

She graduated from Philadelphia School of Nursing and was employed in three major hos-pitals in Philadelphia before entering the field of private duty nursing. Her husband, Samuel, died in 1959. Survivors include a daughter, Linda (Mrs. Stephen) Coble; four grandchildren; two nieces.

He was involved in the granite industry in Barre and was a co-owner and president of the former Modern Granite Company. He served with the Vermont Army National Guard during WWII. His memberships included the Barre Congregational Church. In 1927, he married Martha Reffi, who died in 1991. Survivors include his son, Larry; his daughter, Rosemary Wheelock; two grandsons; four nephews and a niece.

After returning to Vermont, he was employed at Rock of Ages Capacitor plant and later worked for the town of Barre, Miller Building Company and Martin Construction, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Church of Good Shepherd (Episcopal) of Barre. In 1953, he married Phyllis Page. Survivors include his wife; three sons, James, Merle and Michael; three daughters, Debra, Dawn and Diane; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

, 89, of Montpelier, died March 6. Born in 1908 in Highland Park, Ill., she was the daughter of Louise (Watkins) and Ricker Van Metre. She grew up in Evanston, Ill. and attended schools in Roycemore. She attended Sweet Brier College and the Art Institute of Chicago. In 1938, she married Boris Gilbertson. They moved to Wisconsin and later returned to Evanston, where she was director of the Evanston Art Center and then at Northwestern University. In 1971, she married Rudolph Frerichs. She moved to Montpelier in 1989. Survivors include a son, Eric Gilbertson; three grandsons; a sister; a brother; many nieces and nephews.

, 76, of Barre, died March 7. Born in 1920 in Websterville, she was the daughter of Joseph and Anna Rose (O'Connor) Cleary. She attended St. Michael's High School. After high school, she worked in the Barre town manager's office and Selective Service Board. She also worked for the War Production Board and the USO and the Federal Housing Authority. In 1943, she married Raymond Fitzpatrick. She then became office manager of her husband's law firm. Mr. Fitzpatrick died in 1995. She was a member of St. Monica Church. Survivors include a daughter, Kathleen Fox; two sons, Raymond and John; seven grandchildren; a brother.

, 89, of Randolph, died March 6. Born in 1907 in Lowell, Mass., she was the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Gorman) Howe. She received her education in the Lowell school system and graduated from the Lowell Normal School, now University of Massachusetts-Lowell. In 1931, she married Edward A. Brown, who died in 1986. She was a school teacher in Rochester and then worked at Hill's Department Store in Randolph before becoming a sales representative for Sarah Coventry products. She was a member of Sts. Donatian and Rogatian Church. Survivors include a son, Edward; three grandchildren.
