She was employed at the former Barre Steam Laundry and also at Wayside Restaurant. In 1966, she married Scott Thurber. In 1974, she married Carl Smith, who died in 1987. She was a member of Hedding United Methodist Church. Survivors include her companion, Francis Bragdon; five sons, Scott, Dean, Dana, Timothy and Carl Smith Jr.; one daughter, Jessie Willets; four stepdaughters, Jackie Walker, Joyce Rogers, Carol Bashaw and Susan Smith; five grandchildren; two sisters; one brother; nieces and nephews; aunts and uncles.

He graduated from Wales High School and from Burlington Business College, now known as Champlain College. In 1934, he married Helen Sayers, who died in 1995. He was employed as a salesman for Rawleigh Products and at Northfield Wood Products, before retiring in the mid-70s. He was a member of McKenzie Memorial Chapel in Riverton. Survivors include two sons, Merlin Jr. and Robert; two daughters, Mary Vanderwey and Beverly (Mrs. Donald) Morgan; three sisters; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was employed as a bookkeeper and comptroller for Dr. Arnold Chassanoff in Jewett City, Conn., and was a member of the Congregational Church there. She graduated from Northfield High School and earned a bachelor of science degree in education from the University of Vermont. In 1928, she married Edward Sargent, who died in 1978. She taught in the Springfield school system and for 16 years in the Northfield schools, retiring in 1968. Memberships included the United Methodist Church. Survivors include her son, David; two daughters, Constance Dockler and Elizabeth Haggerty; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two nieces and one nephew.

She graduated from Randolph High School and the former Lyndon State Teachers College. In 1970, she married Edgar Rowe, who died in 1978. She taught school in East Granville, Bethel and Rochester and was an executive secretary in Boston. She retired from the Massachusetts Heart Association. She was a member of the United Church of Randolph. Survivors include a brother, Nelson Bowen and cousins.

, 89, of Greensboro Bend, died Oct. 7. Born in 1907 in Greensboro Bend, he was the son of George and Mary Jane (Hutchins) Davis. He attended public schools in Greensboro and graduated from Lyndon Institute. In 1934, he married Dorothy D. Nash. He was a merchant at Davis General Store of Greensboro Bend for 47 years, a family-owned business started by his grandfather in 1893. He was a member of Greensboro Bend United Methodist Church, and he and his wife spent six months of each year at their home in Tavares, Fla., where he was active in Asbury Covenant Church. Survivors include his wife; one son, John; two daughters, Nancy (Mrs. Lewis) Hill and Sylvia (Mrs. Charles) Vatalaro; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister; several nieces and nephews.

She graduated from the former Waitsfield High School, earned a bachelor of arts degree and graduated from Middlebury College and earned her masters from the University of Vermont. She was an English teacher in New York until 1934, when she married James McGill. After her husband's death in 1941, she replaced him as distributor of Sinclair Oil. She belonged to the Waitsfield Federated Church. Survivors include one niece, Anne Dumas; one nephew, Calvin Mehuron; several grandnieces and grandnephews.

In 1942, she married George King. They lived in Morrisville where they operated Grey Ledge Guest Home, a law practice and a retail and wholesale Christmas tree business. She later returned to Barre and was a member of the St. Monica Church. Survivors include one sister, Ileen Livendale; nephews; a grandnephew and a grandniece; two foster sons; and cousins.

She received her elementary school education in Bethel, graduated from Whitcomb High School and attended beautician/hairdressing school in Boston. In 1941, she married Calvin Cornell, who died in 1984. She had been employed at the former Fyles and Rice Company in Bethel, the Bethel School Lunch Program and later as a hairdresser. She retired in 1975 from the Waterbury Plastics Company in Randolph. She was a member of the United Church in Bethel. Survivors include a son, Steven; two grandsons; nieces and nephews.

In 1928, she married Rodolphe J. Rouleau and they moved to Montpelier and in 1935, to Barre. She devoted her life as a homemaker and parent. She was a member of St. Monica Church. Survivors include five sons, Lucien, Marcel, Bertrand, Raymond and Paul; three daughters, Pauline Oshetski, Giselle Waugh and Jo Ann Riley; 25 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; two sisters; one brother; nieces and nephews.

, 91, formerly of Barre, died Oct. 7. Born in 1905 in Quincy, Mass., she was the daughter of William and Helen (Gray) Cumming. She came to Barre as a child and attended schools there and pursued commercial courses at the former Goddard Seminary. She became employed in the office of Granite City Tool Company, which was owned by her family and continued there until 1928, when she married Lloyd E. Eisenwinter. They moved to Arizona and Mr. Eisenwinter died in 1989. She belonged to the Barre Congregational Church while in Barre and the Ringon Congregational Church in Tucson, AZ. Survivors include two sons, Robert and Allan; two daughters, Joan Thompson and Dorothy Peck; eight grandchildren; one sister; nieces and nephews.

, 80, of East Cabot, died Oct. 9. Born in 1916 in Worcester, he was the son of Albert and Alma (Carpenter) May. He attended local schools in Marshfield and graduated from the former Montpelier Seminary. He married Velma Hall in 1940 and joined the Navy in 1944. He attended auctioneer's school and started a career in auctioneering. He was remembered as the "Man With the Derby Hat." After retiring from auctions, he continued working as a cabinet maker and woodworker. Survivors include his wife; his son, Albert L. May; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
