He was a merchant and in business for thirty-five years at Barnet, and town clerk for thirty years. He lived in retirement at Passumpsic. [Genealogy of the Burbank Family, p. 262].

Thrown on his own resources at the age of 10; lived with John Buffum several years; worked for the Connecticut Valley Lumber Co. After his marriage carried on the Nelson farm two years; rem. to McIndoes in 1897; engaged in the meat business successfully seven years; sold out to the Gochee Brothers and bought the Hazen Ford farm south of Barnet village. Brought the land to high state of fertility, erected modern buildings and engaged extensively in handling livestock, lumber and hay; held various minor town offices.
