Fredrick W. Hodgdon Sr., 84, of Shores Hill Road, Granby, Vt., died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017, at the Pines Nursing Home in Lyndonville. He was born at home in Granby on Nov. 6, 1933, the son of Sulling Fox and Jenny (Wilson) Hodgdon. He attended local schools and went on to be a farmer. He served his community for many years as a selectman and as the road agent. On June 11, 1954, he married Priscilla Hill.
Fred was a good family man, the love of his life was his wife Priscilla, and he also enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren. He was a man of all trades and would do anything for anyone and not expect anything in return. Besides loving farming and he loved his animals, especially his pigs, Fred was the best road agent, plowing the roads for many years, not to mention driveways. He was a skilled carpenter and mason building beautiful fireplaces out of stone. Fred was just an all around fun, friendly, caring, good person.
Besides his wife, Priscilla, survivors include three sons; Frederick "Rick" Hodgdon Jr. and his wife, Kathy; Kenneth Hodgdon and his wife, Pammy, and Jerry Hodgdon and his wife, Patricia, all of Granby; and a daughter Mary Gadwah and her husband, Wilman, of Bethlehem, N.H. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Freddie Hodgdon, Jody Hodgdon, Kristin Freeto and Tori Desjardins; and 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; a sister Barbara Brown and her husband, Linwood; sister-in-law Sue Hodgdon Lamadeline; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Donald and Murray Hodgdon.
A graveside service will be held at the Appleton Cemetery in Granby on Monday, Nov. 20, at 11 a.m., followed by a gathering at the Granby Town Hall to celebrate Fred's life.
