Agnes W. Young ....show
, 92, died Sunday, December 15, 2002, at Union House Nursing Home in Glover. Mrs. Young was born in Burlington on March 1, 1910, and was adopted by Charles and Martha (Wylie) White of Glover. She was baptized and brought up in United Presbyterian Church of East Craftsbury, becoming a member at the age of 12. She was a 1929 graduate of Craftsbury Academy. In 1936 she married Walter R. Young. Together they owned and operated a dairy farm on Shadow Lake Road in Glover. She was a devoted wife and mother of four children. She joyfully lived and worked among a community of neighbors, family, and numerous friends. Her passion for music enlivened those who knew her whether they grew up listening to her on the piano at Willie White's Dance Hall, or hearing her during the 30 years that she played the organ and directed the choir at East Craftsbury Presbyterian Church. Central to her life was her devotion and cheerful service to church, family, and a huge network of friends. She often happily commented while looking across the farm's fields toward Mt. Mansfield that she was sure that she lived in the best spot in the world. She leaves three children: Owen Young and his wife, Bonnie, of Glover, Brian Young and his wife, Carole, of Glover, and Jane Senna of Williston; six grandsons; three granddaughters; three great-granddaughters; and two great-grandsons. Her husband, Walter, died in 1989; a son, Graham, died in 1944 at the age of two; a foster brother, William A. White, died in 1958; and another foster brother, Doctor Philip F. White, died in 1992. A memorial service was held December 17 at United Presbyterian Church in East Craftsbury with the Reverend John Rob officiating. Private interment will be in East Craftsbury Cemetery.

, 79, of West Charleston died December 10, 2002, in Newport. Mrs. Young was born March 21, 1923, in Richford, a daughter of Sumner and Myrtle (Brown) Sanderson. On June 27, 1942, she married Alton Young, who survives her. After her husband's time in the Army they farmed the family farm until they retired in 1993. She enjoyed her plants and when able she also enjoyed gardening. She worked for the West Charleston school district for over 30 years. Her family was her life; however, she was always ready to give anyone a hand when asked or if she felt they needed help. She is survived by her husband, Alton, of West Charleston; by two sons, Larry Young and his wife, Lucy, of West Charleston and Rodney Young of West Charleston; by the following grandchildren: Chad Young of Orleans, Anitra and Mark Thon of South Burlington, Aaron Young of Kirby, Shannon Young of Orleans, and Vickie and Steve Gilcrest of Andover, New Hampshire; and by the following great grandchildren: Amanda, Amelia, and Erin Gilcrest of Andover and Dominic Perkins and Haley Thon of South Burlington. Funeral services were held December 13 at Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Newport with the Reverend Roger Fletcher officiating. , 87, of Barton died at North Country Hospital in Newport on Friday, December 13, 2002. Ms. Willey was born on November 14, 1915, the daughter of the late John Dickson and Lilla R. Willey. She is survived by her daughter Ruby Gilman of Lyndonville; by her son-in-law Lawrence Sanborn of Wheelock; by her cousin Elaine Rowe of Newport; by two grandsons; and by her many friends at the Orleans and West Burke meal sites. She was predeceased by her daughter Pearl Sanborn. Graveside services will be held in the spring in Lyndon Center Cemetery.

, 71, of Derby Line died at her home on Thursday, December 5, 2002. Mrs. Tetreault was born in Beebe, Quebec, on July 27, 1931, the daughter of Ernest and Therese (Cayer) Cloutier. She worked for her landlord Mr. Postman for many years. She enjoyed playing cards and quilting. She is survived by her children: Roland Tetreault and his wife, Terry, of Littleton, Colorado, Suzanne Daniel of Derby, Raymond Tetreault and his wife, Cheryl, of Troy, Louise Abel and her husband, John, of Colonial Heights, Virginia, Wilfred Tetreault and his wife, Mary-Ann, of Derby, Real Tetreault of Orleans, and Diane Willey and her husband, Todd, of Newport Center; by her mother, Therese Cloutier, of Beebe; by her brothers Robert Cloutier of Ayers Cliff, Quebec, and Richard Cloutier of Sealeys Bay, Ontario; by her sisters: Lyse Parker of Lyndonville, Diane Kelley of Derby, and Marguerite Cloutier of St. Elie d'Orford, Quebec; by 13 grandchildren; by three great-grandchildren; and by many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on December 13 at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Derby Line with the Reverend Yvon Royer officiating.

, 84, of Sunrise Manor in Island Pond died at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, on Wednesday, December 11, 2002. Mrs. Dever was born in Abilene, Kansas, on December 25, 1917, the daughter of Hilda (Moburg) and August Allard. She was a longtime volunteer at Brighton Senior Center and received the Governor's Award for Volunteer Service in Montpelier earlier this year. She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, playing bingo, and spending time with her friends at Sunrise Manor. She is survived by her daughter Gerry Wickman and her husband, John, of Bradford; and by her granddaughter Charlene Wickman of Palmyra, Virginia. She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Charles H. Dever.
Duane O. Cole ....show
, a 22-year resident of Sierra Vista, Arizona, died on October 31, 2002, at Santa Lucia Foothills Residential Care Home. Mr. Cole was born in Island Pond to Arthur A. Cole and Gladys L. (Farmer) Cole. He always loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Early in life he had many jobs including helping his father run a grocery store, building bridges, and running a steamroller to build roads in northern Vermont. During World War II, he took his family and headed to Los Angeles by train for his family's health. The family stopped in Winslow, Arizona, where he took a job with the Santa Fe Railroad working as a brakeman and conductor. After the war the family returned to North Troy. For the rest of his working years he worked for veneer mills and lumber companies to include the Blair Veneer Mill in North Troy and Columbia Plywood Corporation-Indian Head Division after moving to Ashland, Maine. He enjoyed his job of scaling and buying logs because he was outdoors. He retired in 1979 from Columbia. When he retired, he and his wife came to Sierra Vista to visit their daughter and family. They liked it so well they went back to Maine, sold everything, and returned to Sierra Vista. He would keep his grandchildren entertained with his recollections of his work and hunting and fishing. He and his family always felt he had a good life. He was a good provider and loving husband and father. He is survived by his daughter Stephany Levesque and her husband, Ray, of Sierra Vista; by his son the Reverend Winfield Cole and his wife, Valda, of Deep River, Connecticut; and by his brother Clifton Cole and his wife, Florence, of North Troy. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; by 15 great-grandchildren; and by one great-great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Lottie I. Cole, in 1999; and by his grandson Douglas B. Levesque in 1996. Services will be held in North Troy in May 2003. Arrangements are by Jensen's Sierra Vista Mortuary and Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Homes. A graveside service will take place at Woodmont Cemetery in East Burke in the spring.
