, 74, of St. Johnsbury, Vt., passed away at the Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton, Vt., after a long illness. She was born in Cabot, Vt., Sept. 6, 1933, the daughter of Clifton and Bertha (Tibbetts) Whitcher. Bertha lived most her life in St. Johnsbury, where she raised her family. She worked in the hospitality business at places including Green Mt. Fruit, Brickett's Diner, Sodexo Food Service, and AJA Pizzeria. She retired in 1998 to her home on Rocky Ridge. Bertha enjoyed her days at Riverside Lifetime Enrichment and her regular visits from Betty and "the girls" at Caledonia Home Health. Since June 2005, she has received the kind care of the staff at the Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton. She is survived by five children: Wallace Bengston and his wife, Kayle of Lake Panasofkee Fla.; Deborah Bengston of St. Johnsbury; Douglas Bengston and his wife, Jane of St. Johnsbury; Sharon Bengston and her partner, Linda of St. Johnsbury; Regina Payette and her partner, Linda of New Port Richey, Fla.; four grandchildren: Christina Vance, James Bengston, Rebecca Phillips and Sarah Bengston; two great-grandchildren: Elizabeth Ling and Kaitland Vance. She is also survived by a brother, Clifton Whitcher Jr. and a sister, Minnie Fenoff; nieces and nephews; and lifelong friends Edith Easter and Hazel Allard. In addition to her parents, Bertha was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence Whitcher, and 'Sis' Mabel Barnett and her husband, Raymond. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 1 p.m. at the Sayles Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. , 81, of Lancaster, N.H., died Nov. 30, 2007 surrounded by her family and friends. Born July 11, 1926, in Lancaster, the daughter of Cleo and Mildred (Boucher) Marshall, she was raised in Lancaster. On Sept. 8, 1948, she was wed to Stewart R. Foss. After residing in Stoughton, Mass., for 10 years, they moved back to Lancaster in 1964 to raise their family. Jean was a graduate of Lancaster Academy (1944) and Becker Jr. College in Worcester, Mass. (1946). She worked for Lancaster Public Health as an administrative assistant, and throughout her life cared for many of her dear friends. Some of her hobbies included gardening, skiing and golfing. She was a communicant of All Saints Catholic Church, attending Mass daily. She was also a CCD teacher, Eucharistic minister, lector, treasurer of the flower fund committee and member of the Tabernacle Society. She was also a member of the Emmons Smith Fund. Jean was a devoted and beloved mother to her six children: Sharon Foss, of Lancaster; Mark Foss and his wife, Rita, of Warren, Conn.; Douglas Foss and his wife, Cindy, of Pittsfield, Mass.; Andrew Foss and his wife, Carole, of Belmont, N.H.; Thomas Foss and his wife, Marilyn, of Lancaster; and Kevin Foss and his wife, Janet of Penacook, N.H. She had 14 grandchildren: Adam, Diana, Greg, Erica, David, Ryan, Timothy, Katelyn, Derek, Christopher, Jillian, Nicholas, Michael and Stephanie, and four great-grandchildren. Her parents and brother, Douglas Marshall, predeceased her. , 72, of Proctorsville, Vt., died at Springfield Hospital Nov. 29, 2007. She was born in Springfield, Vt., on May 19, 1935, daughter of Donald and Cressa (Emery) Parker. She attended grade schools in Proctorsville and graduated from Chester High School in 1953. Mrs. Westcott was employed at the Vermont National Bank in Proctorsville and later in Ludlow. She also worked as a bookkeeper for Idlenot Dairy in North Springfield, retiring in 1990. She did auditing work for a number of years for the town of Cavendish, and received the Citizen of the Year award from the town. She was a member of the Andover Community Church and the Myrtle Lodge 6 Rebekahs. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting and sewing, and sold and donated the items she made to Fletcher Farms and other places. Survivors include her husband of 27 years, Harry Westcott; three sons, Mitchell D. Benoit and his wife, Martha, of Cavendish, Vt., Douglas J. Benoit and his fiancee, Linda, of Goshen, N.H., and Edward P. Benoit of North Springfield, Vt.; a daughter, Darlene A. Wilson and her husband, Brian, of Lyndonville, Vt.; a stepson, Steven D. Westcott and his fiancee, Sue, of Proctorsville; three stepdaughters, Annette J. Merrow and her husband, Mike, of Londonderry, Norma J. Griffin and her husband, Michael, of Haltom City, Texas, and Dawn E. Whitley of Westfield, Mass.; a brother, Donald Parker of Pomona, California; 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A son, Michael J. , 88, Lancaster, N.H., died Saturday morning, Dec. 1, 2007, at Country Village Health Care Center, Lancaster, after a long illness. Mrs. Force was born in Newark, N.J., on Nov. 18, 1919, the daughter of Harry and Bertha (Lind) Plate. Lillian was raised in West Orange, N.J., and graduated from high school there. In 1942, she married Carroll J. Force. Following her husband's career with General Electric, they resided for a time in Schenectady, N.Y., later returning to New Jersey and eventually Stratford, Conn. She has resided in Lancaster since 2002 to be near her family. She has been a 25-year cancer survivor. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, card playing and traveling the world. Lillian was a communicant of All Saints Church, Lancaster, and was a member of the Weeks Memorial Auxiliary, Colonel Town Senior Citizens, the Unity Club, the RSVP, and the Tabernacle Society at All Saints Church. Family members include a son, Richard C. Force Sr. and his wife, Louise, of Lancaster; two grandchildren, Richard C. Force Jr. and his wife, Kimberly, of Lancaster, and Tania L. Drummond and her husband, Robert J. , 101, Cabot, Vt., died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007, at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin, Vt. He was born July 14, 1906, in Marshfield, Vt., the son of the late Harry and Delia (Carpenter) Pike. He attended Cabot public schools. As a young man, Earle had a vision. He knew at a very young age that he wanted to be a dairy farmer. Following his education, he operated dairy farms in Calais, St. Johnsbury and Cabot. He retired in 1982. On June 22, 1928, he married Addie Margaret Arthur. He was an avid reader. Farming was his life. He enjoyed waking each day to care for his Jersey heard. He thrived on hard work and maintaining excellent farm conditions and food for his cows. Survivors include two daughters, Lois Pratte of North Branford, Conn., and Muriel Green of Cooper City, Fla.; a sister, Betty Bolton of Plainfield; 21 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Addie, in 1982; a son, John Pike; a sister, Agnes Alston; and three brothers, Richard, Rudolph and Carroll. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007, at 2 p.m. at the Northern Vermont Funeral Home, 60 Elm St., Hardwick. , 66, of Goose Lane, Bath, N.H., died on Dec. 2, 2007, at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. He was born in Springfield, Vt., March 31, 1941, the son of Clinton George and Minerva (Chamberlin) Wheeler. David graduated from the Haverhill Academy. He spent 11 years in the U.S. Navy following high school and later spent 17 years as a civilian naval employee at Cutler Naval Communications and Telecommunications Station, Cutler, Maine. David married Jean Russell on July 7, 1973. He retired in June 2000 as a transportation foreman at Cutler and moved to Bath in September 2000 from Machiasport, Maine. He was a member and past commander of VFW Post 5245 of North Haverhill. He was active in the Fleet Reserve Association, the Disabled American Veterans, and Civil Air Patrol. He was predeceased by a brother Kent J. Wheeler. Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Jean Wheeler of Bath, N.H.; two daughters, Davina Alexa Whitehill and husband Anthony of St. Johnsbury, Vt., and Tara Georgina Mathiowetz and husband Samuel Sr. of White Bear Lake, Minn.; two sisters, Susan W. was a former resident of Mountain Avenue in St. Johnsbury, Vt. She passed away at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital, Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, at the age of 101. Since 1995, she had made her home with her niece, Barbara Faufaw, in North Kirby, Vt. She was born June 20, 1906, in Troy, Vt. She was the daughter of Almon and Lettie (Wright) Cross. She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth in 1949. Their son, Milford Faufaw, was killed in action April 11, 1945, near Okinawa. She is survived by nieces and nephews and their extended families. Services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 11 a.m. at the Guibord Funeral Home in Lyndonville, Vt., with Mr. John Sleeper officiating. Burial will be in May 2008 at the Village Cemetery in Troy.

, 84, of Lancaster, N.H., passed away on Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mo and Gil Rainault in Guildhall, Vt. Mr. Truland was born in Lancaster on Feb. 17, 1923, the son of Daniel James and Mary (Robinson) Truland. Dan was a lifetime resident of Lancaster, graduating from Lancaster Academy in 1941. He also graduated from Holy Cross in 1944 and attended Rutgers University and the University of New Hampshire. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army. For 39 years, he was co-owner of F. B. Spaulding Company in Lancaster. He served his community well, as a Boy Scout leader, trustee of Weeks Memorial Hospital, Lancaster National Bank director, Weeks Hospital Volunteer, installed Lifeline systems, and was a longtime member of the Lancaster Ambulance Corp. In 1988, he was voted Lancaster Citizen of the Year. He was a communicant of All Saints Church, Lancaster, and a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He was a life member of the American Radio Relay League, the Quarter Century Wireless Association, the American Motorcyclist Association and the Whitefield American Legion. Surviving family members include his wife of 53 years, Shirley (Moulton) Truland of Lancaster; four sons, Kevin Truland and his wife,, Colleen of Lancaster, Bruce Truland and his wife, Yao of Lancaster, Earl Truland and his wife, Sharon of Riverhead, N.Y., and Alan Truland of Dalton, N.H.; three daughters, Lynnette Siteman and her husband, Frank of Winchester, Mass., Maureen Rainault and her husband, Gil of Guildhall, Vt., and Kathy Truland of Lancaster; 10 grandchildren, Jacob Cote, Jonathan Ingerson, Jason Truland, Ben and his wife, Koryn Ingerson, Taylor Ingerson, Jordan and her husband, Jason Chester, Matt Truland, Jillian Bessette, Tyler Grieves and Genna Truland; and great-granddaughter-to-be, Lillian Ingerson. , 81, of Loudon, N.H., died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007, at Concord Hospital. Born in Wolfeboro, N.H., the daughter of Chester and Etta (Charles) Clough, she attended school in the Pittsfield School District and graduated from Pittsfield High School with the Class of 1944. She has lived in Loudon for the last two years, coming from Dalton, N.H. She worked as a certified nurses aid for Morrison's Nursing Home in Whitefield, N.H., for 21 years before her retirement. Recently, she had begun working as a senior companion in the Concord area. Arlene loved time with her family and grandchildren and was an avid reader. She was a talented artist-crafts person who had just started to paint in the latter part of her life and did paintings that were very beautiful. She would never sell them. They would always be given away to family or friends as gifts. She also loved to knit, cross stitch, quilt, and crochet in her free time. She was predeceased by her husband, John L. Miller; a son, John L. Miller III; and a daughter, Linda Bailey. She is survived by five sons, Lennard (Jesse) Riel of Corpus Christi, Texas, Jerry Riel and his wife, Ellie of Belmont, N.H., Robert Riel of Loudon, Thomas Miller and his wife, Diane of Lancaster, N.H., and Marc Miller and his companion, Sue of Jefferson, N.H. , 95, of Lancaster, N.H., formerly of Lost Nation Road, Groveton, N.H., died Monday afternoon, Dec. 3, 2007, at Country Village Genesis Elder Care. Mrs. Mayberry was born in South Paris, Maine, on March 18, 1912, a daughter of E. Burton and Mae (Aremberg) Curtis. Priscilla was a graduate of Gould Academy, Bethel, Maine, and attended Long Island Hospital School of Nursing. Most of her life she was a private duty nurse but also worked for a time at Kent Nursing Home and Weeks Memorial Hospital. At one time she was a private duty nurse for Mrs. Jane (Sinclair) Weeks. For many years, she also resided at the Mayberry Potato Farm on Groveton Road. She enjoyed going to camps at West Pond and at Maidstone Lake. She also enjoyed the outdoors, crossword puzzles and reading. She was a member of the Methodist Church where she also sang in the choir. She was also a member and former employee of the Farm Bureau and member of the grange. Family members include two daughters, Marlene Hartlen of Florida and Robin Dorr of Naperville, Ill.; a brother, Robert Curtis of Gorham, Maine; two sisters, Ruth Doyle of Franconia, N.H., and Nancy Anderson of Lynn, Mass.; 11 grandchildren including James E. Carr and wife Kristin and Patrick Carr and wife Caroline, all of Lunenburg, Vt.; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert V. Mayberry; a son, Peter J. Carr; a stepson, Richard Mayberry; and two grandsons, Christopher P. Carr and David Hartlen. , longtime businessman in Derby, Vt., passed away early Wednesday morning in Derby at his home. He was born on May 20, 1928, in Glover, Vt., the son of Harold and Nellie (Scott) Jenness. On Nov. 24, 1948, he married Joyce Ferrin who survives him. Walt was a member and twice grand master of Masonic Lodge 44 F&AM, lifetime member of Newport Elks Lodge 2155, past member of the Derby Lions Club, member of the Newport Country Club, member and past president of the Derby Drift Dusters Snowmobile Club, a former Derby Village trustee, and a gentleman who was very generous with his time for his community. He was always ready to lend a hand to his family and friends with his many building trade talents. Walt and his wife, Joyce, owned and operated the Gulf station in Derby for eight years. He taught auto mechanics at Newport High School as well as Derby Academy. He and Joyce later started Walt's Sales and Service on Main Street in Derby before moving it to Route 5 in Derby. They later sold the business to their son and wife, Ed and Alta Jenness. Walt and Joyce enjoyed many trips in their motor home and have spent numerous winters in Florida. Of Walt's many interests, he particularly enjoyed operating his pride and joy: his John Deere dozer. Along with his wife, Joyce, Walt is survived by his son, Ed, and his wife Alta, of Derby Line, and his daughter, Elaine Morin of Virginia. He also leaves the following grandchildren: Christopher Jenness and his wife, Deanna of Derby; Scott Jenness and his wife, Julie of Derby; Timothy Jenness and his wife, Sarah of West Charleston; Emily Micknak and her husband, Chris of Derby; Whitney Morin of New Hampshire; and Mathew Morin of Newport, Vt. He is also survived by great-grandchildren Brianna Madden, Gage and Cayde Micknak, and Rylie and Bryn Jenness, all of Derby. Walt is survived by a brother, Kenneth and his wife, Ruby of Morgan, Vt.; a sister, Dorothy Parmalle of Tupper Lake, N.Y.; sister-in-law Beverly Conley of Glover; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He will also be deeply missed by his very dear friends, Marilyn, Curt and Betty, Ruth, Frances, Ellis and Velma, Dave and Pat. He was predeceased by his brothers, Richard, Ray, Harold and Elwin; and a sister, Irene Conley. , 33, of Lowville, N.Y., died at his residence on Dec. 1, 2007. He was born on June 15, 1974, in Seoul, South Korea. He was lovingly raised by his parents, Merrill and Carol (Williams) Laclaire of Derby, Vt. Jeremy grew up in the area and graduated from North Country Union High School in 1992. After high school, he worked at various auto body shops as an auto body repair man. It was at this time that he developed his passion for working with metal. He married Megan O'Connor on Aug. 15, 1998, in Newport, Vt. Jeremy and Megan had their son, Jeremy Nicholas, on Jan. 1, 1999, and their daughter, Elizabeth Marie, on Dec. 1, 2000. He joined the U.S. Army in September 2004. He was a member of the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum in Watertown, N.Y. Jeremy served in Afghanistan from Feb. 13, 2006 to Feb. 16, 2007 in the field of aircraft structural repair. He received the following awards: the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, NATO Ribbon, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Overseas Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Army Meritorious Unit Citation Award. Jeremy was a devoted husband and father. He was a big fan of NASCAR, "Go Jeff Gordon!" He enjoyed many outdoors activities. The thing he enjoyed the most was to take walks with his family. He was loved and respected by all the lives he has touched. Jeremy is survived by his wife, Megan (O'Connor) Laclaire of Lowville; his son, Jeremy Nicholas Laclaire; and his daughter, Elizabeth Marie Laclaire, also of Lowville; his father and mother, Merrill and Carol Laclaire of Derby, Vt.; his two sisters, Rebekah Ricker and her husband, Stephen of Morgan, Vt., and Crystal Toegel and her husband, Stephen of Swanzey, N.H.; his paternal grandmother, Clarissa Laclaire of North Leverett, Mass.; nieces Erin (Ricker) Simpson, Kara Ricker, Danielle, Stephanie, and Anna Toegel; nephews Luke and Isaac Ricker; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Services for Spc. Laclaire will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Church of God, Crawford Road, Derby, Vt., with Pastor Jake Kosis and the Rev. Michael DeSena co-officiating. of St. Johnsbury, Vt., passed away peacefully at her Cliff Street home Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007. She was born in Newport, Vt., Dec. 19, 1921, the daughter of Frederick and Mary (Brind) Reid. Her husband, Merton, a longtime Sears employee, passed away in 1991. She is survived by her two daughters: Marjorie Achilles and her husband, Sidney of St. Johnsbury; and Barbara Ailes of Essex Jct., Vt.; four grandchildren: Cynthia Shirley (Emmons) Bevins and Allen Begnoche of Jericho, Vt.; Robert S. Achilles and his wife, Cheryl of Windsor, Vt.; Christopher S. Achilles of Burlington, Vt.; Katherine M. Achilles and Kevin Steirhoff of Honolulu, Hawaii; four great-grandchildren: Alicia F. Doria, Jayson P. Bevins, Hannah M. Achilles, and Natalie R. Achilles. She was predeceased by her siblings. The family will gather in the spring at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. , of St. Johnsbury, Vt., passed away quietly after a long illness on Dec. 6, 2007, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. She was 71. Of Irish descent, she was born in the Bronx, New York, on June 6, 1936, to Cornelius and Elsie (Geraghty) Sullivan. She was the beloved wife of John Wilson, who lives at 33 Buzzell St. in St. Johnsbury. She is also survived by one son, Neal Wilson of Salt Lake City, Utah; two brothers: C.L. Sullivan of Fort Worth, Texas; and John Sullivan of Rockaway, N.Y.; nieces and nephews. Mary had a long and varied career. In her early years, she worked as a Wall Street executive secretary. Later, she was a self-employed bookkeeper and court recorder here at the Caledonia County courthouse. Most recently, she was a craftsperson; together she and John attended craft and holiday shows throughout the year in Vermont and New Hampshire. She and John suffered the tragic death of their older son, Richard, who passed away Oct. 28, 1999. , 73, of West Lunenburg Road, Lunenburg, Vt., died Friday morning, Dec. 7, 2007, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center after a sudden illness. Mrs. O'Neal was born in East Lyme, Conn., on Jan. 2, 1934, the only child of Caleb and Esther (Carlson) Johnson. Sylvia was raised in Naugatuck, Conn., and was a graduate of Naugatuck High School. She attended New Haven Nursing School where she earned her nursing degree. She worked for several years at New Haven Hospital. She moved to Lunenburg in 1984 and began working for St. Johnsbury Home Health and for a time as a nurse's aid at Morrison Nursing Home in Whitefield. She enjoyed crocheting, collecting lighthouses, camping and traveling. Family members include a daughter, Laurie Whetzel of Houston, Texas; a son, Donald Ray O'Neal Jr. of Lunenburg, Vt.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Robert C. O'Neal, and a daughter, Bonnie O'Neal. Memorial visiting hours will be held on Monday, Dec. 10, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Bailey Funeral Home. He was a local artist who enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing, mountain biking, snow boarding, photography and spending time with his fiancZe and friends and family. He had a great love for children and enjoyed telling incredible stories. He loved his family and friends. He is predeceased by his aunt Catherine Dobson of Whitefield, N.H.; grandfathers Larry Schooner of North Strafford and Charles Drake of Milford. , 88, Franconia, N.H., passed away on Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, surrounded by his family, at the Lafayette Health Care Center. Clayton was born to Francis and Louise (Lunderville) Dezan on April 30, 1919, in West Charleston, Vt. He attended school in Bath, N.H., and Waterville, Quebec. Clayton worked in Hollywood Studios and the oil fields of California where he was befriended by many movie actors of the '40s and '50s. Clayton also worked for Ken Curran Enterprises and Pizagallie Construction for many years as a general foreman and heavy equipment operator before retiring in 1982. He was a Charter member of the Littleton Eagles Club. Clayton loved traveling in his motor home to California, Arizona and Florida. He spent many winters panning for gold in Arizona. He also enjoyed entertaining friends by playing the violin, banjo and guitar. Surviving family members include one daughter, Dyanna and her husband, Thaddeus Thresher, of East St. Johnsbury, Vt.; three sons, Clayton and his wife, Anne Dezan, of Wrightwood, Calif., Donald and his wife, Fumiko Dezan, of Oceanside, Calif., and Maurice and his wife, Alice Dezan, of Springfield, Mass.; two sisters, Beatrice Gardell of Ontario, Canada, and Viola Rheaume of Milan, N.H.; a special niece, Camellia Hill of Milan, N.H.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. His wife, Ruth, four brothers, and five sisters predeceased him. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007, at 10 a.m. at the Pillsbury Funeral Home, located at 101 Union St., Littleton, N.H., with the Rev. Stephen E. Bascom Sr. officiating. , age 54, of East Burke, Vt., passed away Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, following a two-year struggle with cancer. She was born June 29, 1953, at Brightlook Hospital in St. Johnsbury, Vt., to Ralph and Shirley Temple, of East Burke. Sherri graduated in 1971 from Lyndon Institute. Over the years, she was a local real estate agent (Sprucewood Realty) and operated her own screen printing business. Snowmobiling, kayaking, and the time she spent on her meadow were some of her favorite pastimes. She was a devoted mother, a special grandmother, a loving daughter, a caring sister, a thoughtful aunt, and an unforgettable friend to many. She will be sadly missed by her large circle of friends, and particularly her longtime friend "Bob," whom she has asked her sister Cindy to care for. Sherri was the "activities director" within her group of friends. For many years, she coordinated tips to Old Orchard Beach and St. Petersburg, Fla., and a special event - her famous pig roast "on the Meadow." These events were extremely important to Sherri, and she definitely took her role seriously. There are many screen printed "in the Meadow" shirts in the community that will continue to remind us of her generous and fun loving nature. Besides her parents, Sherri leaves behind her son, Matthew Kvam and wife Karie; her daughter, Danielle Kvam and significant other Matthew Reen; her grandchildren, Shani Billings, Angela Kvam and Erin Kvam; her siblings, David Temple and wife Joanne, Michael Temple and wife Kathy, Cindy Temple and her cocker spaniel, Bailey; and a niece and nephews. She was predeceased by infant twins, Eric and Katrina. , of Peacham, Vt., died Friday, Dec. 7, 2007. A French horn player and music teacher, Dale was active in music in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. She taught music for nearly 30 years as a private teacher, and at Blue Mountain Union and Monroe Consolidated Schools. In addition, she was an active member of Christmas Revels, Hanover Chamber Orchestra, Portland Symphony and Heritage Brass Quintet. She studied music at the Cleveland Institute of Music with Myron Bloom. She is survived by her parents, Edwin and Jane Huling; her son, Gregory Camara; her granddaughter, Ila Camara; her partner, Donald Davis; and five siblings, Edwin Huling, Brian Huling, Diane Huling Reed, Nancy Hartswick and Eileen Rossetti. , (Sgt. 1st Class, U. S. Army, retired), 67, of North Haverhill, N.H., passed away Dec. 7, 2007, at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, N.H., after a brief illness. Wayne was born in Newington, Conn., Aug. 23, 1940, the son of Grover Carl and Ruth Miriam (Hinton) Tyler. He grew up in the Barton and Glover, Vt., area. Wayne enlisted in the Army in 1959 and retired in 1979. After retirement, he traveled to various states as he loved to travel. His occupations ranged from food service director to selling real estate. Wayne was a member of the V.F.W. in Las Vegas, Nev., the American Legion Ross-Wood Post 20 in Woodsville, N.H., and was active in and devoted to his church, The Church of the Crossroads in North Haverhill, N.H. Wayne was predeceased by his wife, Esther V. (Applebee) Tyler; his parents; several aunts and uncles; and a very dear nephew. Survivors include his wife of four years, Elizabeth A. (Wooten) Tyler of North Haverhill; his daughter, Sonya L. Smith and her husband, Kenneth L. of North Haverhill; a stepson, Paul W. Scott and his wife, Erin of Denver, Colo.; stepdaughter Lisa G. , a longtime resident of Bethlehem, N.H., died at the Naples Community Hospital in Naples, Fla., on Nov. 28 from complications due to heart failure. He was 72. Mr. Guider was born in Washington D.C., on March 26, 1935, the son of John William and Dorothy (Hogan) Guider. He was predeceased by his parents; his sisters, Dorothy Adair Williams and Elizabeth Killay; his former wife, Patricia Harvey Guider; and their son, John (Sean) William Guider II. He is survived by his wife, Judith Hindley Guider; his sons, Christopher Mark Guider of Rochester, N.Y., F. Hogan Guider Jr. of Marblehead, Mass., and Nicholas Adair Guider of New York City; two grandsons, Nicholas James Guider and John William Guider III; and his stepsons, Ethan L. Gettman of Boston, Mass., and Christopher H. Gettman of Honolulu, Hawaii. Mr. Guider attended The Canterbury School in New Milford, Conn., and was a 1957 graduate of Dartmouth College. He was an accomplished skier and served in the Army as a member of the Mountain and Cold Weather Training Command Center in Camp Hale, Leadville, Colo. He was also a member of the Aspen Ski Patrol for several years. He began his sales career for the Alcoa Steel Company in New York and later moved back to Littleton, N.H., and was employed by Connors and Hoffman Shoe Company. Later in his career, Mr. Guider purchased the Novelty Footwear Company of New York City and Port Jervis, N.Y. In the early 1980s, following a passion shared with his father, he purchased the Foto Factory in Littleton, N.H., presently located on Main Street. After his retirement in 1998, he and his wife wintered in Marco Island, Fla. Mr. Guider was much appreciated for his good humor and wit. In his leisure, he enjoyed traveling, golf, skiing, reading and cooking. He was very proud of his service with the Mountain and Cold Weather Training Command Center, also known as the 10th Mountain Division. He attended many reunions in Colorado throughout the years with his Army unit, the last being in March 2007 in Aspen. His club memberships included the Profile Club in Franconia, N.H., and the Rookery and Fiddlers Creek Golf Clubs in Naples, Fla. Mr. Guider's funeral will be held at St. Rose of Lima Church in Littleton, N.H., on Dec. 15, 2007, at 12 p.m. A reception following the funeral will be held at the Adair Country Inn, Mr. Guider's former family estate in Bethlehem, N.H.

She was born in Littleton, June 13, 1950, the daughter of Frank G. and Lauraette H. (Hastings) Clark. Pat was a graduate of Lisbon High School Class of 1968 and a 1972 graduate of Belknap College. Pat married Thomas C. Lang on March 29, 1980. She began teaching in Berlin, N.H., at the Catholic School and then in Cornish, N.H., before going to Lisbon Regional School 28 years ago. She was a math and science teacher at the middle school level. She was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary Post 5245 and a member of the National Education Association. She taught summer school and tutored for several years. She was predeceased by her father, Frank Clark and a sister, Barbara Jean. Survivors include her husband, Thomas C. Lang of Landaff, N.H.; a son, Nathan C. Lang of Landaff, N.H.; her mother, Lauraette H. , 80, of White River Junction, Vt., died of Alzheimer's on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007, at Genesis Healthcare in Lebanon, N.H. Peter was born in St. Albans, Vt., on June 24, 1927 to Yale and Hazel (Langelier) Flanagan. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in St. Albans in 1945 and served in the U.S. Navy 1945-1946. Peter graduated from St. Michael's College, Colchester, Vt., in 1950 and was named St. Michael's Alumnus of the Year at his 50th college reunion. Always a strong supporter of St. Michael's, he served on the board of associates trustees. Peter was married to Mary Ellen (Burke) on Oct. 4, 1952, at the Church of the Nativity, Swanton, Vt. Most of his adult life was spent as co-owner of Hartford Motors Chrysler/Plymouth International Harvester dealership with his best friend and partner, Andre Rocheleau. Peter was an active member and strong supporter of St. Anthony's Parish in White River Junction. For many years, he served the Catholic Diocese of Burlington on their finance committee. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion and a past member of the Hartford Elks and the White River Lions Clubs. For many years, he was a member of the Hartford Board of Civil Authority and served on the state Board of Victim's Compensation. He was an early supporter of the Upper Valley Haven and volunteered there for many years. After his retirement in 1990, Peter and Mary Ellen served as volunteers for the Edmundite Mission in Selma, Ala., and the Christian Appalachia Project in eastern Kentucky. Physical fitness and healthy living were always important to Peter. He enjoyed his daily jog and playing tennis. Peter loved the outdoors from a very early age. In high school, he hiked the Green Mountains in Vermont, and in his adult life, spent many happy hours with family and friends hiking the White Mountains. He also enjoyed spending time at his hunting camp, fondly known as Eagle Ledge, in Vershire, Vt. In addition, he was a member of the Shamrock Hunting Club of Duxbury, Vt. His love of the outdoors is evident in his oil paintings lovingly displayed in the homes of family and friends. Peter enjoyed his Morgan horses, Shamrock and Paddy, and participated in local horse show competitions as well as rode with the Windsor County Sheriff's Posse. Besides his wife, he is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Claire Flanagan of St. Albans, Vt. In addition, he is survived by seven children and their spouses: Peter and Joyce, of Hanover, N.H.; James and Victoria of Hartford, Vt.; Patrick and Christine of Lebanon, N.H.; Martha Cloutier of Canterbury, N.H.; Margaret and Stephen Morse of Charleston, S.C.; Daniel and Jodi of Burke, Vt.; and Elizabeth and Howard Diamond of Boulder, Colo.; as well as 20 grandchildren who were his pride and joy. He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Ann Flanagan. Peter also leaves two nephews and two nieces and their spouses: Edward and Bonnie Flanagan of Montpelier, Vt.; Julia and Dylan Smith of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands; Ann Kerrigan of Wilder, Vt;, and Christopher and Anna Flanagan of Holliston, Mass.; as well as 11 grandnieces and grandnephews. died at his home in Derby Line, Vt., on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007, of melanoma. He was born on Nov. 16, 1950 in Baltimore, Md., the son of Gordon and Ethel Power. He graduated from Swarthmore College in 1973 with a bachelor's degree and earned his MLS from the University of Maryland. He served as a librarian in Carroll County, Md., until he moved to Vermont in 1984 to serve as regional librarian at the Northeast Regional Library in St. Johnsbury. He decided to change careers and attend law school and graduated from Vermont Law School in 1991. He practiced law in New York City for four years. He survived the first attack on the World Trade Towers in 1993, having to climb down 59 flights of stairs to safety along with his coworkers. He moved to Boston to work for one year before he returned to Vermont to work as public defender and then open his own law office with a partner, Doug Willey. On July 13, 1985, he married Carol Rund Swett, who survives him. He is also survived by two daughters, Kim Swett and Colleen Swett and by a grandson, Brandon Swett. He leaves his stepmother Cathe of Phoenix, Md.; siblings and their families, Gordon Power, Redlands, Calif., Garret Power, Baltimore, Md., Steve Power, Monkton, Md., Vallie Larson, Monkton, Md., Andrea Burgoyne, Cockeysville, Md., and Adrienne Smith, Monkton, Md. He enlisted in the Navy and served 1944-1946 on the USS Chicago, a heavy cruiser; there he was subjected to asbestos, a condition which affected his lungs. For thirty four years, Phil served as Caledonia County UVM Extension Agent and as president of the Vermont and New England associations. He received his Batchelor of Science degree in Agriculture from the University of Rhode Island in 1951, his Masters in Education from UVM in 1968. Civically Mr. Grime: was a past member and president of the St. Johnsbury School Board, was a former trustee of St. Johnsbury Academy, past PTA president, past executive secretary of the NH-VT Christmas Tree Association, and past director of Caledonia County Fair. He was one of the founding forces of The Farmer's Market in St. Johnsbury. He wrote a weekly newspaper column for 33 years, regularly appeared on "Across the Fence" on Channel 3, and contributed to monthly dairy newsletters. Barn design was one of Phil's specialties; he helped design over $2.9 million in barns in Caledonia County alone! Upon retirement his accomplishments were widely recognized. Extension was his ministry; he would do anything that would help the farmer have a better life. He loved working his Christmas trees with Elsie and was a friend to all who knew him. , 87, of Young Street, Newport, Vt., died peacefully Dec. 12, 2007, in Barton, Vt. He was born Oct. 11, 1920, in Newport, a son of Edward and Weltha (Magoon) Davio. On July 22, 1942, he married Angeline Moyer who survives him. He graduated from Newport High School and St. Johnsbury Academy. Mr. Davio was postmaster for the Newport post office for many years. Among his hobbies, he enjoyed gardening, stamp and coin collecting and bowling. He is survived by his wife, Angeline Davio of Newport; a son, Brandon Davio of Newport; daughters Theresa Drake and her husband, Philip of Derby, Vt., and Cheryl Davio of Deerfield Beach, Fla. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Paula Gratton and her husband, Ronnie of Fairfax, Scott Drake of Gravensport, N.Y., Doug Drake and his wife, Tammy of Troy, and Rhonda Drake of Underhill; and by three great-grandchildren, Nate, Tia, and Emma Drake; and by his brothers and sisters, Francis Ormsbee and his wife, Amelia of Newport, Kenneth Ormsbee of Texas, Joan McDonald and her husband, Ken of East Charleston, and Alma Blake of Coventry. , 22 months, of Moultonboro, N.H., passed away on Monday, Dec. 10, 2007, at Mass General Hospital. Destiny was born at Laconia Lakes Region General Hospital on Monday, Jan. 16 2006. Destiny was a very happy and beautiful child. She brought joy and happiness to all those who ever met her. She enjoyed many things, dancing with mom and dad, riding on the tractor with grandpa, hanging out with grandma, and snuggling with daddy. She loved all animals and loved hanging out on the farm. Destiny took joy in every minute of her short, precious life. She will always be daddy's baby girl. Destiny is survived by her parents, Bryan and Sara Bigue, who loved her more than life itself; her brothers, Kyle and Zachary Bigue; her sister, Shelby Bigue; grandparents Bob and Cindy Dunn; and her great-grandparents, Richard and Catherine Webster, and Leona Dunn. She will be remembered by all and never forgotten. A private memorial service will be held for family and close friends. , age 94, a lifelong St. Johnsbury resident, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007, at the Pines Health and Rehab Center. Daughter of the late Nelson and Lucy (Perry) Eastman, she was born February 14, 1913, in St. Johnsbury. Laura married Mahlon Beck in 1943. She worked as a waitress for many years at the former Candelight Restaurant. She enjoyed many things, especially playing bingo, knitting, crocheting, and reading the Bible. Laura was diligent in keeping a daily diary all her life. Laura is survived by two sons and their families: Sidney Beck and his wife, Barbara of New Port Richey, Fla. and their daughter, Jamie Beck; William Beck of Sandusky, Ohio, his children, Greg Beck and his wife Liz, Amy Beck and her husband Steve. In addition, he is survived by 20 grandchildren, including Nancy King, Richard and Joan Spencer, Ted and Pamela Spencer, Carolyn and Donald Lambert, Douglas Welch, Dennis and Denise Welch, Kevin Welch, Kristie and Conner O'Neall; several great-grandchildren, including a special great-granddaughter, Laura Beck. Laura was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Mahlon; two sons, Nelson Welch and Donald Welch; a daughter, Priscilla Spencer; a granddaughter, Pamela Welch Oaks. A graveside service will be held at the Passumpsic Cemetery, Saturday, May 17, 2008, at 11 a.m.

, 75, of Garland Road, Lancaster, N.H., passed away late Thursday evening, Dec. 13, 2007, at Weeks Medical Center. He was born on Jan. 10, 1932, in East Lancaster, the son of the late Everett A. Emerson Sr. and Frances (Hall) Emerson. He was one of nine children. In 1952, he married Myra E. (Manson) Emerson. They were married for 55 years and raised a family of five children. He is survived by a sister, Linda Fraser of Lancaster; and a brother, Jon Emerson, of North Stratford, N.H. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired personnel director of Ampad Corp. His children, all living, include Holly H. Emerson of Puyallup, Wash.; Roxie A. Severance and her husband, John, of Whitefield; Lorraine J. Emerson and her husband, Michael Dauphinais, of Westminster, Mass.; Tammy R. Lazott and her husband, William, of Lancaster; and Mark M. Emerson and his wife, Terri, of Lancaster. He was a very proud grandfather and great-grandfather. He leaves behind: Christopher Severance and his wife Deborah and daughters Kaitlyn, age 6, and Jillian, age 3, of Derry, N.H.; Belinda King and her husband, Stanley, and daughter Rheya, age 4, of Bedford, N.H.; Kurt Severance and his wife, Alysson, and their children Claudia, age 3, and Jackson, age 1, of Maynard, Mass.; John Emerson, age 18, of Lancaster; and Amber Emerson, age 17, of Lancaster. Fred was well known as a community leader for serving his church and other community organizations. He was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church, Lancaster. He organized and coordinated the annual ecumenical Easter sunrise service in Lancaster for approximately 40 years and led a lay ministry at Country Village Health Care Center for 38 years. He had been chairman of the Lancaster planning board, past president of the Lancaster Historical Society, treasurer of CEDC, and past director of the Lancaster Fair. , 72, of North Concord, Vt., died Saturday morning, Dec. 8, 2007, at St. Johnsbury Health and Rehab. Marilyn was born in Gilman, Vt., on May 27, 1935, the daughter of Albert A. and Caroline (Foster) Roy. She was a graduate of Concord High School and attended Lyndon Teachers College. For a time she served with the U.S. Air Force. She was employed with the Gilman Credit Union and later she worked at the Citizens Bank in St. Johnsbury, Vt. for over 20 years as a teller and bookkeeper. There were many things she enjoyed in life, including traveling and her camp on Miles Pond; she was known for her love of the ducks there. Her greatest loves were hunting and fishing. She is survived by her stepmother, Joyce Roy, of Gilman, Vt.; her best friend since childhood, Joseph Gallinelli, also of Gilman; close friend and hunting companion, Sydney Partridge, of North Concord; dear friends Pat Gray and Diane Brinley, both of St.Johnsbury; cousins Mr. and Mrs. Michael Mahurin, Hannah Mahurin and Allyson Mahurin, all of Hill, N.H.; several other cousins, aunts and uncles. There are no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Riverside Cemetery, South Lunenburg, Vt. , of the Colonial Apartments in St. Johnsbury, Vt., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007, at the V.A. Hospital in White River Junction, Vt., at the age of 90. He was born in Montreal, Canada, Jan. 10, 1917, the son of M. Charles and Frieda (Bilodeau) Begbie. His wife was the late Emma Berry Begbie. She passed away in June of 2007. Francis graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1936. He worked for First National Stores for 32 years and retired as district manager. He was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II and saw action during the European invasion at Omaha Beach. He is survived by a daughter, Elaine Staples of Hartland, Vt., and one granddaughter, Robynn Hinkle. There will be no calling hours. There will be a graveside service in spring 2008 at the Veterans Cemetery in Randolph.

, 66, of East Hardwick, Vt., died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007, in the comfort of his home and family, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born April 17, 1941, in Hardwick, the son of the late Clifford W. and Ethel (Calkins) Gates. He attended Hardwick Academy. On April 1, 1961, he married Sylvia Jean Willey in Morrisville. In his earlier years, he was employed by Gates Salvage in Hardwick. He was a self employed truck driver and worked for Munson's Earth Moving in Burlington. He later worked for L.G. Bellavance & Sons in Hardwick for 18 years, and for more than 17 years, he was employed by the Town of Hardwick on their road crew. He retired in 2003 due to failing health. Louie was a member of the Caspian Lake Lodge 87 F & AM. in Hardwick. He enjoyed the time that he spent with his grandchildren, visiting with family and friends. Other enjoyments included caring for his lawn, the outdoors and tinkering. Survivors include his loving wife of 46 years, Sylvia; three daughters, Robin Gates of East Hardwick, Vicki Gates of South Barre and Maria Perry of Brownington; eight grandchildren, Chelsea and Dylan Gates-Sholan of East Hardwick, Cody and Tyra Lanpher and Bradey "Bugsy" Gates-Lanpher all of South Barre, and Tyler, Riley and Morgan Perry of Brownington; three sisters, Ruth Silver of East Hardwick, Catherine Donaghy of Hinesburg and Rita Pasqueriello of Schenectady, N.Y.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by three brothers, William 'Bill' Gates, Clifford Gates and Harold Gates; and two sisters, Dorothy Robbins and Elizabeth Smith. , of St. Johnsbury, Vt., died Dec. 16, 2006, in Hanover, N.H., after suffering from Alzheimer's disease. She married Oscar D. Garcia Sr. July 5, 1958. He predeceased her Dec. 31, 1988. She was born in Rutland, Vt., on July 14, 1926, one of five children born to Harry D. and Lillian Sophia (Gardner) Moore. She graduated from Rutland High School in 1944 and later from Rutland Business School. The Garcia family moved to St. Johnsbury in 1970. Millie worked at Zayre's, Wayne Ford Chrysler, and Littleton Chevrolet. Her volunteer activities included Retired Senior Volunteers Program, American Heart Association, Meals on Wheels, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and the Senior Advocacy program. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church. She is survived by her son, Oscar Garcia and wife Kelly of Hartford, Vt.; daughter Lori Beauregard and husband Robert of Freehold, N.J.; two grandchildren, Kyle and Kristin Garcia; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four older brothers, Donald, Lawrence, Earl, and Gerald Moore. Visiting hours will be held at the Sayles Funeral Home Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. concluding with a prayer service led by the Rev. John Marshall of the Grace United Methodist Church. She will be buried in East Clarendon Cemetery at a later date. , 69, of Newport, Vt., died Dec. 15, 2007. He was born Oct. 18, 1938, in South End on Sea in England, the son of Lewis Benjamin Jenkins and Mary Kathleen Jessup. On Aug. 26, 1996, he married Margaret Hunter, who survives him. Dennis was a graduate of Farnborough College in England, earning a degree in engineering. After being recruited in the late 1960s by Space Research Corp., he immigrated to Canada for a short period of time and, thereafter, the United States having dual citizenship in both the United States and England. He worked at the Space Research Facility in North Troy, Vt., as a program manager, managing programs for the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy. In 1980, he and six of his colleagues founded Phoenix Engineering, Newport, Vt., working with the U.S. Army and its NATO allies. He was the current president of Phoenix Engineering. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Hunter of Newport; a son, David Hunter, his wife Sarah, and their children, Grayson and Lauren of Franklin, Mass. He is also survived by his cousin, David Jenkins and wife Patricia of Tenerife, Canary Islands, and their daughter Megan Jenkins of Birmingham, England. Dennis was an avid reader and an even more avid golfer. He was past president of Orleans Country Club and remained an active member of the board of directors. He traveled extensively over the years. , 63, of Brown Road, Groveton, N.H., died on Tuesday evening, Dec. 18, 2007, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, N.H. Mr. White was born in Buffalo, N.Y., on April 3, 1944, a son of Roland H. and Virginia (Tucker) White. Terrence was 18 months old when his family moved to Lancaster, N.H. He was a 1962 graduate of Lancaster High School. His employment included owning a service station in St. Johnsbury, Vt. He was also a manager of a drive-in in Twin Mountain and Vermont. He moved to Scarborough, Maine, and worked for Snows Clam Chowder, W.H. Nichols, and in the maintenance department at Konica. He has been a resident of Groveton for the past 12 years. He was great Nascar fan of Bill Elliott. Family members include his mother of Lancaster; his wife of 29 years, Darlene (Blaisdell) White of Groveton; two children, Larry White of Deluth, Ga., and Karen Degreenia of Sutton, Vt.; three stepchildren, Stephen R. Alley and Scott D. Alley both of New Hampshire and Melissa J. Simonelli of North Carolina; two sisters, Joan Carrier of Cape Elizabeth, Maine and Sharon Chamberlain of Danville, Vt.; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and nieces and nephews. , 87, died Dec. 17, 2007, at the Maine Veterans Home, Bangor, Maine. He was born Aug. 18, 1920, in St. Johnsbury, Vt., the son of Harry and Clarissa (White) Carr. Edward graduated from Michigan State University in 1943 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics, receiving his Ph.D. in 1954, after serving during World War II with the U.S. Army Signal Corps in Europe. He was a professor of physics for 34 years at the University of Maine at Orono. During this time, he achieved two decades of continuous research funding, authored numerous publications and was awarded a patent. He enjoyed teaching, and mentored the research of many masters and Ph.D. candidates. On his retirement in 1991, he was honored with the title of professor emeritus, and given a mountain bike instead of a rocking chair as a department gift. Ed was an avid athlete, playing softball with the UMO Physics Department for 35 years and figure skating with the Figure Skating Club for many years. He was often seen riding his bicycle across Orono on his way to work and also enjoyed skiing, camping and traveling with his family. He was an enthusiastic fan of the Maine Bears Baseball Team. Ed was dedicated to improving his community, and served in various leadership roles in the Old Town-Orono YMCA and was a member of the Church of Universal Fellowship. He was a man of great honesty and integrity, in both his scientific work and in his interactions with everyone he met. Ed loved his family deeply, and they him. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Carr of Orono; three daughters and their husbands, Rebekah and David Filipello of Dunsmuir, Calif., Karen and James Bustillo of Castro Valley, Calif, and Elizabeth "Liz" Carr and Mark Gitin of Mountain View, Calif.; one sister, Betty Calkins of Danville; seven grandchildren, Jessica, Mallory, Maria, Luke, Sylvia, Jacob, Aaron; and many nieces and nephews. The family appreciates the wonderful care and many, many special people at the Maine Veterans Home. A service of remembrance will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 21, at the Church of Universal Fellowship, Orono, Maine, with the Rev. Lorna Stuart, pastor, celebrant. , 73, formerly of 86 Jefferson St., Lakeport, N.H., died at the Lakes Region General Hospital on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007. Mrs. Berry was born May 28, 1934, in Littleton, N. H., the daughter of Wilson M. and Marion (Gale) Lewis. She lived in Littleton for many years and was a graduate of Plymouth Teacher's College. She moved to Laconia in 1968. Mrs. Berry was as a daycare teacher for 10 years and was also employed as a cook and dietary aide at the St. Francis Home for many years. Mrs. Berry was a longtime active member of the Laconia Congregational Church and served on several committees. She was a longtime hospice volunteer. She enjoyed the out of doors and enjoyed many years of skiing with her family. Survivors include two daughters, Gale Cullen of Belmont and Ellen Cullen of Malden, Mass.; a son, Peter Cullen, of Laconia; a former daughter-in-law, Tina Cullen, of Laconia; two grandchildren, Matthew Cullen and Craig Cullen, both of Laconia; seven stepchildren; several stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, George Lewis of Concord; two nephews, Jeffrey Lewis and Gregory Lewis; and several cousins. Mrs. Berry was predeceased by her husband, Edson C. Berry, in 2002. There will be no calling hours. , age 81, of Littleton, N.H, passed away on Monday, Dec. 17, at the Lafayette Center in Franconia, N.H., after a long illness. Born Mabelle Fairchild on Dec. 28, 1925, the daughter of a prominent area lawyer who served multiple terms in Congress, she grew up in Pelham, N.Y., attended nursing school at Cornell University in upstate New York during the World War II years, and lived in New York City for the first part of her adult life, working as a typist in various offices. She married Arsen V. Alexander, also of New York, in 1958, and became the mother of Benjamin Alexander in 1962. The family moved to Littleton in 1967 and also, until 1978, owned a house in Landaff Center where they spent many summer weekends over the years. Mabelle loved to write songs and poems, and was an avid supporter of many charitable causes. Her pastimes included gardening, listening to classical music, and attending live theatre. She is survived by a son, Benjamin Fairchild Alexander, of Baltimore, Md.; a sister, Elinor Fairchild Stebbins, of Richmond, Va.; nieces Lorna Stebbins Fossand of Portland, Ore., and Elin Stebbins Waldal of Carlsbad, Calif.; and nephews Paul Stebbins of Miami, Fla., Rodger Stebbins of Fairfield, Conn., and John Stebbins of Tucson, Ariz. , 76, of Brookfield, Vt., died unexpectedly Thursday evening, Dec. 20, 2007, upon arrival at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph. He was born July 12, 1931, in Randolph, the son of Walter and Grace (Trask) Wheatley. He attended Brookfield schools and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1949. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He married Janet Ryan on Sept. 14, 1957. John had a wholesale paper distributorship, and he had been parts manager for Hill-Martin Equipment and the Volkswagen dealership in Barre. He also sold cars for several Barre-Montpelier dealerships. He served as a grand juror, justice of the peace and on the board of civil authority. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Post 10 of Barre and Post 9449 of Randolph, and the East Brookfield Congregational Church. He was past master of the Mystic Star Masonic Lodge and past patron of the Crescent Chapter. John was a 30-year volunteer for the Brookfield Fire Department, where he served on its Prudential Committee. He enjoyed dancing, country-western music, hunting, fishing, animals and spending time with his nieces and nephews. Survivors include his wife, Janet Wheatley, of Brookfield; his sisters, Bertha Benway and her husband, Ernest, of Chester, Vt. and Rebecca Reynolds and her husband, Howard S. of Lyndonville, Vt.; his brother-in-law, Joseph Ryann and his wife, Lucy of South Barre, Vt.; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, W. Wayne Wheatley. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at the East Brookfield Congregational Church, with Pastor Doug Cameron officiating. Barnes and Marjorie Yvonne (Hobbs) Barnes. She was the devoted wife of Guy Harmond Wing, who predeceased her in 1983. She grew up in Island Pond where, along with her seven brothers and sisters, she developed a love of hiking and fishing, especially in the area of McConnell Pond and Bluff Mountain. She married Jonathan Slater Johnson on Aug. 5, 1930. They resided in Derby Line, Morgan, and Island Pond until his death in 1935. She married Guy H. Wing on Sept. 16, 1939, in Lyndonville. They resided for a short time in Portland, Maine, and Ville La Salle, Quebec. However, because of Mr. Wing's work on the railroad, they spent most of their 44-year marriage in Mrs. Wing's hometown of Island Pond. The Wings enjoyed hunting, camping at McConnell Pond, and dancing. Mrs. Wing could "Charleston" with the best of them. After retiring from the railroad, the Wings explored the United States from coast to coast, visiting national parks, national historic sites and adoring grandchildren along the way. Later in life, she enjoyed trips to Germany, the western provinces of Canada, and various Civil War sites where several of her great-uncles served. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Island Pond. She taught Sunday school for many years and delighted diners with "Arline's beans" at countless strawberry suppers. She did volunteer work for the American Red Cross, supported the parent teacher association of the Brighton Elementary School for two years, and still found the time to cheer on her children at Brighton basketball and baseball games. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 25 in Island Pond and, many years later, an employee of Maidstone State Park. Her skill as a homemaker was unparalleled. From crocheting to quilting, her artist's eye charmed family and friends for three generations. No quilt was warmer or more beautiful than one stitched by her. Her hooked rugs, handmade with hand-dyed wool, mirrored in their floral design the beautiful flower beds she planted outside her South Street home. She is survived by her sons, Cydney Johnson and his wife, Marguerite "Sue" of Newport, and Robert Wing and his wife, Marya, of Island Pond; by her daughter, Hannah Guenet of Newark; by her son-in-law, Lt. Col. Joseph L.H. Guenet of Amherst, N.Y.; by her brothers Elmore Barnes and his wife, June of Orange City, Fla., and Belvin Barnes and his wife, Pearl of Bartlett, N.H.; by her sisters Ava of Northumberland, N.H., Helen (Waterhouse) Sims of Isle la Motte, Vt., Jean Bailey of Lancaster, N.H., and Joyce Caouette and her husband, Robert of Berlin, N.H.; by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements will be announced in the spring.

, age 94, a lifelong St. Johnsbury, Vt., resident passed away Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007 at The Pines Health and ehababilitation Center. Daughter of the late Nelson and Lucy (Perry) Eastman, she was born Feb. 14, 1913, in St. Johnsbury. Laura married Mahlon Beck in 1943. She worked as a waitress for many years at the Candelight. She enjoyed many things, especially playing bingo, also knitting, crocheting, and reading the Bible. Laura was diligent in keeping a daily diary all her life. Laura is survived by two sons, Sidney Beck and wife Barbara of New Port Richey, Fla., their daughter, Jaime Burke, William Beck of Sandusky, Ohio, his children, Greg Beck and wife Liz, Amy Beck and husband Steve; 20 grandchildren to include Nancy King, Richard and Joan Spencer, their daughter Bobbi and husband Jim Brimblecombe, Ted and Pamela Spencer, Carolyn and Donald Lambert, Douglas Welch, Dennis and Denise Welch, Kevin Welch, Kristie and Conner O'Neall; several great-grandchildren, including a special great granddaughter, Laura Beck. Many good friends and neighbors, close friends Jane Dean, Pastor Karl and Maralee Wieland. Laura was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Mahlon; two sons, Nelson Welch, Donald Welch; a daughter, Priscilla Spencer; a granddaughter, Pamela Welch Oaks. , of Lyndonville, Vt., died early Saturday morning Dec. 22, 2007, at The Pines Rehabilitation and Health Center in Lyndon at the age of 67. He was born Jan. 1, 1940 in East Douglas, Mass., a son of Wilbur and Doris (Flood) Beer Sr. Robert worked as a machinist at machine shops in Connecticut, as well as Lyndon, St. Johnsbury, and Springfield, Vt. He enjoyed maple sugaring, wood carving, hunting, fishing, and fellowship with friends and family while he played his guitar. He was predeceased by his parents, and his great-grandson, Hunter Kelley. Survivors include three daughters, Debbie Desjardins and husband Rob of St. Johnsbury (P.O. of Lyndon Center and Derby passed away peacefully Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, at the age of 40. His life was a gentle one. Teddy lived years longer than expected because the wonderful care he received throughout his life. He was born in St. Johnsbury March 1, 1967, one of four children born to Roland and Grace (Mouton) Greenwood. He was a special education student at The Living Arts Center on Cherry Street in St. Johnsbury and graduated there at the age of 21. The Living Arts Center was a special part of Teddy's life. For the past 12 years, he has been part of the Joseph and Donna Robishaw household in Derby. Teddy became part of their family. He is survived by his parents, Roland and Grace Greenwood of Lyndonville (13580 92nd Trail, Live Oak, FL 32060); one sister, Vicki Soper of Orford, N.H.; two brothers, Thomas R. Greenwood and wife Karen of Lyndonville, and Timothy A. , 80, of Oregon Road, East Concord, Vt., died Saturday Dec. 22, 2007, at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster, N.H. Mr. MacDonald was born in Concord, Vt., on Sept. 17, 1927, a son of Harry and Cleona (Nichols) MacDonald. Howard was a lifetime resident of East Concord. He was in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Georgia Pacific, Gilman for several years until his retirement. His greatest joy was his grandchildren and truly enjoyed time spent with them. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, four wheeling, snowmobiling and was an excellent carpenter, building homes for his children. He was a member of the Littleton Square Dance Club, Gilman American Legion Post 41, Concord Moose Club 82, and the East Concord United Methodist Church. Family members include his wife of 52 years, Ruth (Baker) MacDonald of East Concord; two sons, Steven MacDonald and his friend, Cheryl of Waterford, Vt., and Stanley MacDonald and his wife, Dawn of East Concord; two daughters, Sandra Lowell and her husband, Tom of Waterford and Sonya Boulay and her husband, William of Lunenburg; three grandchildren, Brandon, Ryan, and Trent Lowell; his sister, Lillian Tatro of East Concord. , 87, a longtime resident of Groton, Conn., passed away in his home on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 15, 2007, of natural causes. He was born on Aug. 3, 1920, in Lyndon, Vt., the son of Bert and Dorothy Sanderson. Sandy spent his early years exploring the green hills of the Northeast Kingdom. He enjoyed fishing in the brooks and rivers of northern Vermont. From an early age, Sandy enjoyed observing animals and creatures and felt at home in the outdoors. His youth led him west to San Diego, Calif., and then back to Vermont to join the U.S. Navy. During World War II, Sandy faced both Nazi and Japanese forces. His naval voyages aboard the U.S.S. Andromeda exposed him to much of the world, visiting places as far away as the African Coast, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Pacific Islands. Sandy earned numerous service medals, veteran's awards, and, most importantly, an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy. After the Navy, Sandy found residence in Norwich, and Groton, Conn. While in Groton, he worked as a boilermaker for the Electric Boat Company. He retired from EB with over 25 years of service. At EB, Sandy was known as a talented welder and performed many custom jobs for the U.S. military. Sandy's favorite pastime was fishing for bluefish in the waters of Long Island Sound. He loved the fight and will of the bluefish and mailed his "smoked blues" to friends and family all over the U.S. A sailor at heart, he was well versed in sea travel and often ventured out in weather that other fishermen found unfavorable. To all those who knew him well, Sandy will be remembered for his light-hearted, generous ways and warm spirit. An old fashioned gentleman with class and compassion, he was a man of good faith and was a model citizen. He will be missed greatly. Sandy Sanderson was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Dorothy Sanderson; his loving wife, Helen Sanderson; his sister, Harriet Peck; and his three brothers, Bob Sanderson, Kenneth Sanderson, and Raymond Sanderson. Sandy is survived by his sister-in-law, Catherine Sanderson; brother-in-law, Stuart Peck; and numerous nieces and nephews. of Lyndonville, Vt., passed away Monday morning, Dec. 24, 2007, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital at the age of 87. She was born in Lyndon Center, Vt., March 11, 1920, the daughter of Leon and Gladys (Balentine) Hopkins. She graduated from Lyndon Institute in 1938. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold M. Wright, in 1982 and by her oldest son, Harold M. Wright II in 2000. Eleanor was very proud of her nursing career and served as a U.S. Navy nurse during World War II. She and her husband raised their family in Maryland. After the death of her husband, she returned to her hometown and became quite active in her community as a volunteer at the Shore Museum, the Lyndon Historical Society, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Lyndon Center Baptist Church. She was also a tax preparer for the elderly. She is survived by three sons, William Wright of Lusby, Md., Robert Wright and wife, Teres of Potomac, Md., Richard Wright of Lyndonville; four grandchildren, Kirk, Michael, Megan, and Erica; one great-grandchild, Zoe; three brothers and sisters, Leon Hopkins and wife, Gladys of Montpelier, Leone Gale of Lyndon Center, Maybelle Shannon and husband, John of New York; two sisters-in-law, Beverly Hopkins of Lyndonville and Connie Hopkins of Marlborough, Mass.; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Leonard Hopkins and George Hopkins, and two sisters Ruth McCarty and Marion Adams. Services will be held Friday, Dec. 28 at 11 a.m. at the Guibord Funeral Home. The Rev. David Colwell will officiate. Burial will be in May at the Lyndon Center Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours. , of Lancaster, N.H., surrounded by her family, died suddenly of heart complications at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, N.H., on Dec. 23, 2007. Mrs. Moore was born in North Stratford on March 8, 1931. She was raised there and was a graduate of Stratford High School. For several years, she resided in Colebrook with her husband and family. In 1968, they moved to Lancaster where she resided for the duration of her life. Priscilla was a wonderful wife and mother and friend. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. of Victory, Vt., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2007 at The Pines at the age of 91. He had resided there since spring of this year. Born in St. Johnsbury, Vt., Nov. 26, 1916, he was the son of Benjamin and Mary (Walsh) Hill. He was predeceased by his wife, Sonia (Toussaint) Hill, and by two brothers, Benjamin Hill and Harold Hill. Archie was an old-fashioned Vermonter and worked hard all his life. He put in over 20 years at Fairbanks, was a logger, had a milk tank route, drilled artesian wells, repaired chain saws, delivered coal for Ides, had a rubbish route with Ernest Boudreau, snowplowed in the winter, and enjoyed his gardens except for the black flies. Way back, he and his father had one of the first ferris wheels and furnished other rides and concessions around at the area fairs. He is survived by one daughter, Patricia Hill of Victory (4270 Victory 05858); one son, Jon Hill and wife Kathy of North Concord (387 Wesley Road 05858); three grandchildren, Tim Hill of North Concord, Shawn Hill and wife Tanya of Lyndonville, Mya Allen and husband Mike of North Concord; three great-grandchildren, Samantha Griswold, Lainie Allen, and Tyler Jones-Hill; nieces and nephews; and a brother-in-law, Gaston Toussaint and his wife Buddy of Connecticut. , 80, of Waterford, Vt., formerly of Hardwick and Danville, Vt., died Friday, Dec. 21, 2007, in Waterford. She was born Feb. 2, 1927, in Craftsbury, Vt., the daughter of the late Chester and Martha (Morse) White. She attended Hardwick public schools and Brandon schools. She was employed by the Brandon training school in the maintenance and custodial department for many years. She later was a private domestic in the Rutland and Hardwick areas. Nadine attended the United Church in Hardwick and was a member of the Hardwick Senior Citizens for several years. She enjoyed crafts, cats, puzzles and collecting angles. Other enjoyments include attending bible studies and traveling. Touring Jerusalem was a highlight in her life. Survivors include several nieces, nephews and cousins. A graveside service will be scheduled in the spring in the family lot in the East Craftsbury Cemetery. She was the beloved wife of John Waldron and the devoted mother of her four children. She was born in Bridgeport, Conn., on Oct. 5, 1932, the daughter of Lewis and Frieda (Seeman) Becker. Her mother survives her and lives in Milford, Conn. She is also survived by her husband of 57 years, John Waldron (P.O. Box 14, Lower Waterford, VT 05848); four children, Gary D. She was born in Haverhill, N.H., Oct. 5, 1936, the daughter of Elmer C. and Vera Lillian (Shields) Frost Sr. Elaine was a graduate of Groton High School. She married Kenneth H. Fiske on Nov. 2, 1956. She assisted her husband in the operation of their dairy farm and feed distribution business in South Ryegate. Elaine was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Berlin, Vt. Family oriented, she was always attending ball games, concerts and events of her children and later, her grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth H. "Chud" Fiske on Nov. 9, 1996, and a grandson, Andrew Kenneth Colby on Nov. 23, 1988. Survivors include a daughter, Judy Colby and her husband, Richard of South Ryegate, Vt.; a son, Dan Fiske and wife Karen of St. Albans, Vt.; five grandchildren, Christopher Colby, Curtis Colby, Kimberly Smith and husband Christian and step daughter, Violette, Anthony Fiske and Kendra Fiske; two sisters, Evelyn C. Ricker of Groton, Vt., and Frances E. He and his wife Jane moved to Franconia, N.H., in 1966. He was employed at Connors & Hoffman, Littleton, N.H., until they closed then became founder and part owner of Connors Footwear, Lisbon, N.H., from where he later retired. He served on the Copper Cannon board, as well at the Profile Club of Franconia, and the Center of New Beginnings, Littleton. He was a communicant of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Littleton, as well as Our Lady of the Snows, Franconia. He was a dedicated and beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. , 58, of Sandhill Road, died on Monday, Dec. 24, 2007, at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, N.H. He was born in Haverhill, N.H., June 9, 1949, the son of Newton Hall and Addie (Carpenter) Darling. David attended Groton High School, Groton, Vt. He married Charlene Hazen on July 30, 1988. For the past several years, he was a delivery man for the Valley News of West Lebanon, N.H. Over the years he had been employed as a farmer, logger and truck driver. David served in the National Guard in his younger years. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved snowmobiling in his days and also enjoyed watching old movies. He cherished his dog "Buffy" who went everywhere with him. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was predeceased by his father, Newton H. Darling; a sister, Diane Darling; and a brother, Gary Darling. Survivors include his mother, Addie Darling of South Ryegate, Vt; his wife of 19 years, Charlene Darling of Bradford, Vt; a daughter, Stacy Slayton and husband David of Groton, Vt; a son, David N. of Lyndonville, Vt., lost her five-year battle at her home with ovarian cancer surrounded by her close friends, family and beloved companions Molly, Brady, Millie Doris, Abby, Figaro, and Nick. Rachel was born Oct. 6, 1945, to Lois and Raymond Hudson of Sheffield, Vt. After the death of her father, her mother remarried Calvin Chester with whom Rachel developed a loving relationship. She looked upon him as a father figure. On Sept. 25, 1965, Rachel married John Richard Harvey of Lyndonville and they raised two children, Martha Harvey Madler of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Matthew Harvey of home. John preceded Rachel in death on Aug. 21, 1986, after he waged his own courageous battle with cancer. Rachel walked with John through his journey with cancer and kept their family strong during this trying time. Rachel was a strong and caring woman who took pride in being a "Vermonter." In earlier years, after earning her license to practice, she ran her own lawn care business with an astounding knowledge of the operation. In later years, Rachel went to work for Northern Counties Healthcare, where she was in payroll. She developed many close friendships there. She took so much love, pride and caring from her work. She was an amazing seamstress, gardener, and cook. Her favorite time was spent at her cabin at the lake where she shared many happy times with her family and friends. Rachel is survived by her children who were her center; her cherished grandchildren Maxwell, Sam and Ross Madler all of Pittsburgh; her brother, Alfred Hudson of North Carolina; her close friends who were like family to her, Gloria Greenwood of Newark and Sue Chester of Sheffield, the Spaulding, Bona, Paris and Burrington families of Lyndonville and Lancaster, N.H.; friends Sherri Menard of Lyndonville and Christine Joyal of Lancaster; many cousins including Hudsons, Zampieris, McCaffreys, and many others; her mother and father-in-law, Jane and John Harvey of Beverly Hills, Fla., who looked upon Rachel as a daughter; her sister-in-law, Sarah McIntosh of Rochester, Minn.; niece Tracy Hudson; nephews BJ, Erin and John-Luke McIntosh; as well as many others who mourn her loss. passed away Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 26, 2007, at his daughter and son-in-law's home in Newark, Vt., at the age of 64. He was born in Hartford, Conn., on May 4, 1943, the son of Nelson and Marion (Chatfield) Briggs. He was predeceased by both of his parents; by his step-father, Jack Pinckney, with whom he was very close; and by two brothers-in-law, Fred Pilote and Ted LeGeyt. A boiler engineer, Larry designed and installed large-scale commercial boilers. As of this past Dec. 7, he had worked for 20 years at Harrington Engineering in Old Saybrook, Conn. Before that he worked at Industronics, Inc. in South Windsor for 19 years. His close friend, Dick Robinson, worked with Larry at both places. Larry had the privilege of serving with Elvis Presley during his stint in the U.S. Army. He was an ardent fan of the New York Giants. He is survived by his daughter, Christina Deth and her husband, Brad, of Newark, Vt.; his daughter-in-law, Ingrid Briggs of Las Vegas, Nev.; five grandchildren: Randy Coles, Cori Kaitin Coles, and Lawrence Deth of Newark; and Abby and Katie Briggs of Las Vegas. He is also survived by four sisters: Janet LeGeyt and Linda Pilote, both of Summersville, S.C.; Beverly MacLaughin of Perkinsville, Vt.; and Joan McGonigal of Coventry, Conn.; and by many nieces and nephews and their families. Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at 1 p.m. at the Guibord Funeral Home followed by a get-together at the Breslin Center. The Rev. Dr. Robert A. Potter will officiate. Burial will be in May at the Hillside Cemetery in West Burke. There will be no visiting hours. , 87, died Dec. 28, 2007, at Copley Hospital in Morrisville. He was born in Hardwick on Sept. 9, 1920, the son of Benjamin and Mabel (Hodgdon) Rodriguez Stone. Lewis attended Hardwick Academy and graduated in 1938. He married Thelma Fletcher in Hardwick on Jan. 10, 1947. During his working years, Lewis was employed in the restaurant business for two years, at the Sam Daniel's Furnace Co. for 11 years, by contractor Joe Lavertau for two years, and by Rock of Ages for 28 years. He was a member of the Hardwick Fire Department for 17 years, a Hardwick Village trustee for 11 years, a member of the Hardwick United Church and an executive board member for six years. Lewis enjoyed hunting, fishing and Boy Scout leadership. Survivors include his wife, Thelma, of Hardwick; a son, Norman, and his wife, Linda Rodriguez, of Barre; two daughters, Linda and her husband, Clifton Gross, of Bradford; and Ann Fecteau and her longtime companion, Brian Forant, of Hardwick. Also surviving are four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Lewis was predeceased by his parents and two sisters, Nellie Conry and Isabel Foster. The family will receive friends Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the des Groseilliers Funeral Home on Church Street in Hardwick. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the United Church of Hardwick. Spring interment will be in the Main Street Cemetery in Hardwick. , 81, of Chesterfield Stage Road in Chesterfield, N.H., died unexpectedly Thursday night, Dec. 27, 2007, at the home of his daughter, Deborah Kryzak, in Knox, N.Y. Mr. Wormer was born in Guilderland (Fullers), N.Y., on Sept. 25, 1926, the son of Stanley C. and Lolita A. (Wolford) Wormer. He was raised and educated in Guilderland, where he attended local schools. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the military police unit and was stationed in the Philippines and then Japan. Mr. Wormer had been employed at Miniature Precision Ball Bearing in Keene, N.H., before his retirement. Previously he had worked at the Austine School for the Deaf in Brattleboro, Vt., and had operated his own home repair business for several years. In his earlier years and while living in New York, he had been employed by the New York State Thruway. A resident of Chesterfield for the past 38 years, he previously resided in Guilderland. Active civically, he was a longtime member and past commander for two years of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Carl M. Dessaint Post 1034 in Brattleboro, where he also served as quartermaster for VFW District II. He was a national recipient of the national aide-de-camp through the VFW. Mr. Wormer held membership in the American Legion, Brattleboro Post 5, where he was a member of the Legion honor guard and memorial unit. He also held membership in the Chesterfield American Legion, Post 86, where he served as past commander. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Brattleboro Lodge 1499, where he served as a trustee, and he was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Brattleboro Aerie 2445. A devout Catholic, he was a communicant of Saint Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Brattleboro and was a 4th Degree Knight, Knights of Columbus, Leo Assembly 1154. For pasttimes and interests, he enjoyed playing pool and bowling as well as reading. On Sept. 2, 1950, in Guilderland, he was married to Elizabeth M. "Min" Scanlan. After 51 years of marriage, she predeceased him on Feb. 25, 2001. Survivors include one son, Robert Wormer of Monroe, N.H.; three daughters: Deborah Kryzak of Knox, N.Y.; Elizabeth West of Conway, Mass.; and Mary Richardson of Colton, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by four brothers: twins Leslie and Lester; and Stanley and William Wormer. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Jan. 2, at 11 a.m. at Saint Michael's Church on Walnut Street. Burial with full military honors will be held in the spring in Freidsam Cemetery in Chesterfield, when the cemetery reopens. There are no calling hours at the funeral home. , 62, of Island Pond, Vt., passed away peacefully Dec. 29, 2007, in Newport. He was born Dec. 27, 1945, in Newport and son of Roland and Ellen (Carr) Santaw. On May 9, 1964, he married Carol Bousquet who survives him. Mr. Santaw was a mechanic for Freuhauf Truck and Trailer Company of Wallingford, Conn. He was a former volunteer fireman for the Town of Brighton and a member of the Brighton Rescue Squad. He was involved with the Boy Scouts in Island Pond. Among his hobbies, he enjoyed fishing, and woodworking. He is survived by his wife, Carol Santaw of Island Pond, and by the following children, Cathy Wilkins and her husband, Ken of Lyndonville, Candy Deslandes and her husband, Donald of Newport, Cindy Brown and her husband, Marc of South Wheelock, Cheryl Hackett and her husband, Tony of Island Pond, Raymond Santaw and his wife, Carol of Island Pond, Michael Santaw of Newport, Annemarie Dion and her husband, Rusty of Newport, and Frank Santaw and his wife, Amanda of Norton. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Dora Bousquet of Orleans; a brother, Robert Santaw of Newport; a sister, Bernice Morey and her husband, Brad of Titusville, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Lester Bousquet and his wife, Sandy of Lisbon, N.H.; and a sister-in-law, Betty Young and her husband, Robert of Orleans; numerous grandchildren; several great-grandchilden; and several nieces and nephews. of Lyndonville, Vt., passed away unexpectedly Friday evening, Dec. 28, 2007 at the age of 91. He was born Dec. 21, 1916, in Lyndon, one of six children born to Ernest and Gertrude (Jones) Masten. He was predeceased by his three brothers, Gerald, Ralph, and Gordon; and by his two sisters, Velma Drown and Arlene Masten. Wendell graduated from St. Johnsbury Trade School in 1936. He loved baseball and was good enough to have received a tryout with the old Boston Braves. He went to work driving milk truck to and from Boston during the depression and the war. Later, he worked for Gulf Oil Co., setting up gas pumps. His first Gulf station was in St. Johnsbury at the intersection of Concord Avenue and Portland Street. He built Masten's Gulf Station on Broad Street in Lyndonville just north of the diner and operated that for 17 years. He later operated Masten's Motor Shop, a small engine repair shop located just north of his old Broad Street station. Mr. Masten was a member of the Lyndonville Rotary Club and was known as a great storyteller. He was a 60-year member of Crescent Lodge 66 in Lyndonville and Mt. Sinai Temple 3 in Montpelier. He loved both the Masons and the Shriners and was particularly fond of driving the fire brigade trucks in area parades. This past year, the Mastens sold their camp on Shadow Lake in Glover where he loved to hunt and fish. He was fond of golfing and was an early flier. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Abbie (Chapman) Masten; two daughters, Marjorie Willard and husband James of Bonita Springs, Fla., and Nancy Duerinck and husband Wayne of Burlington, Vt.; five grandchildren, Jackie, Missi, and Tom, Tarn and Aaron; 10 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan 3, 2008, at 1 p.m. at the Guibord Funeral Home. Family friend, the Rev. Barbara Dwyer, will officiate. Burial will be in May 2008 at the Lyndon Center Cemetery. , 91, of Cabot, Vt., died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, in the comfort of her home and family. She was born Nov. 23, 1916, in East Hardwick, the daughter of the late Fred and Julia (Sinon) Maynard. She attended Cabot public schools. On Nov. 10, 1934, she married Howard Edwin Houston in Plainfield, Vt. They worked on various dairy farms in the area and moved to Massachusetts in 1937, where Howard was employed at Deerfoot Farms in Southboro. They returned to Vermont and in 1944 they purchased a dairy farm in Cabot. They ran the farm together until 1972. Doris was a farm wife who enjoyed her family, working with the animals and haying. Later in her retirement years, other enjoyments included playing Skip-Bo, Tri-Ominos and word search puzzles. Survivors include: eight children, Jean Gaboriault of Gilbert, Ariz., Harold Houston and his wife, Nancy, of Zephyrhills, Fla., and Cabot, Patricia Rouelle and her husband, James, of Montpelier, Marjorie Bissell of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Cabot, James Houston and his wife, Joanna, of Cabot, Linda Barney and her husband, Wendell, of Williamstown, Carolyn Houston of Cabot and Michael Houston of Websterville; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; six siblings, Freda Stone of Williamstown, Frederick Maynard and his wife, Betty, of St. Johnsbury, Isabelle "Peggy" Montgomery of Montpelier, Martin Maynard and his wife, Freda, of Danville, Theresa Remick of Danville, and Virginia Decelle and her husband, Paul, of Moscow; as well as sisters and brothers-in-law; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Howard, in 2005; two brothers, Ernest and Kenneth Maynard; a sister, Elizabeth Lackie; two grandsons, Joseph and Jay Rouelle; and a son-in-law, George Gaboriault. To honor her request, there will be no public visiting hours or funeral. In the spring, there will be a private family burial in the Durant Cemetery in lower Cabot.
