Charles L. Monty ....show
, 77, of Littleton, N.H., beloved husband of JoAnn Monty, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2005, at the Littleton Regional Hospital surrounded by his wife and family. Charlie was born Sept. 15, 1927, the son of Charles E. and Valeda (Bedard) Monty in Northfield, Vt. He attended the Northfield Schools and later graduated from Cornell University. Charlie was a corporal in World War II, serving in Japan. He became employed in the grocery industry upon discharge from the armed services and was currently employed part-time at Shaw's of Littleton as a quality control clerk. Charlie had many hobbies such as gardening, hiking, camping, walking, music, reading and helping others. Being community- and service-oriented, he loved to help out in each town he lived in. He was a Boy Scout leader, a Decca Club Officer, served with the Lyndonville Rotary Club and the Lyndonville Board of Trustees, as well as the American Legion. Charlie was recently an active Member of the Littleton Lions Club, a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Plaque, Lion of the Year 1993-1994, and the District Governs Appreciation Plaque in 2005. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, serving on many committees. Charlie had an infectious smile and regardless of how bad things were, he had a smile for everyone. He always looked for the good in everyone. Everyone that knew him loved him, and he will be missed by all of us. Charlie is survived by his wife of 31 years, JoAnn Monty of Littleton; his daughters, Louise Monty of St. Johnsbury, Vt., Theresa and Robert Dimick of St. Johnsbury, Vt., and Marie and Jamie Dimick of Cabot, Vt.; his brothers, Michele and Therese Monty, and Alfred and Anita Monty of Barre, Vt.; his sisters, Jacqueline and Marcel Vozzella of Westwood, Mass., Jeanne Della Bianca of Bristol, Conn., and Lise Leary of Newark, Del.; two close nieces and their families, Tina and David Miller and grandsons, Michael and Matthew Miller of Littleton, N.H., and Sheena and Sean Sullivan and granddaughter Serina of Twin Mountain, N.H.; in-laws, Lawrence and Lorraine Percy of Newport, Vt., Stewart Percy and Marjorie Annis, Roland and Theresa Percy of Montpelier, Vt., Rudolph and Marlene Percy of Newport, Vt., Marion and Maurice Tice of Derby, Vt., Jean and Richard Kelley of Newport, Vt., Shirley Percy of Essex Junction, Vt., Louise Falconer and Robert Kinney of Derby, Vt., Susan and Marion Vachon of Newport, Vt., and Janet Gregiore; as well as several nieces and nephews. A son, Stephen Monty; a brother, Paul "Joe" Monty; his parents, Charles and Valeda Monty; and his in-laws, Willie and Alice Percy predeceased him. The family will receive friends on Friday, Sept. 9, at the Pillsbury Funeral Home, 101 Union St., Littleton, N.H., from 6:30-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stephen E. Bascom Sr. officiating. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery at a later date. , age 87, formerly of Harvard Street, Franconia, N.H., passed away Sept. 8, 2005, at the Lafayette Center. Kathleen was born June 18, 1918, a daughter to Frederick and Beatrice (Riley) McNamara in Swampscott, Mass. One sister, Eleanor Clark, and one niece, Rita Fenoff, both of Lincoln, N.H., survive Kathleen. Two brothers predeceased her. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Our Lady of the Snows Church in Franconia on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. John Fleming as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery.

, age 27, of Leesville, La., passed away on Sept. 2, 2005, as a result of an automobile accident. Judi was born on March 18, 1978, the daughter of Donald Stone Jr. and Helen (Martinez) Stone, in Taunton, Mass. She attended Bethlehem Elementary School and was a graduate of Profile High School. Judi lived in the Bethlehem and Manchester areas until she moved to Louisiana one year ago. Judi was a loving mother, loved dearly by family and friends and will be very much missed. She is survived by her parents, Donald and Helen Stone of Bethlehem, N.H.; her biological father, Edwin Melendez of Puerto Rico; two sons, Eric and Anthony, and her finance, Eric DeRepentigny, all of Leesville, La.; three sisters, Sherry Martinez and Barbara Wallace, both of New Hampshire, and Sue Anne "Sammy" Stone of Florida; three brothers, Robert Stone of Florida, Edwin Melendez of Puerto Rico, and Dwane Wallace of New Hampshire; her great-grandmother, Lillian Pina of Massachusetts; grandparents; Godmother, Judith Martinez of New Hampshire; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday evening, Sept. 13, from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Pillsbury Funeral Home, 101 Union Street, Littleton. Burial rites will be celebrated by the Rev. Fr. Daniel J. , 83, of Lane Avenue, Portland, Maine, died peacefully at her home Sept. 9, 2005, with her family by her side. She was born in Concord, Vt., the daughter of Harvey and May Dodge Burlock. She was employed at New England Telephone Co. in Bethlehem, N.H., for several years. She later worked for 19 years at the Bethlehem School Department as a secretary. She enjoyed going for rides along the coast of Maine, playing canasta with her friends at the Lane House in Littleton, N.H., and sitting by the garden watching birds build their nests. She was predeceased by her husband, Elwyn Miller; two brothers, Merlin and Bernard Burlock; and a sister, Helen Santy. Surviving are four sons, Lawrence and his wife Dixie of Guilford, N.H., Lester and his wife Diane of Portland, Maine, Dennis and his wife Bonnie of Crestview, Fla., and Dale and his wife Linda of Daytona, Fla.; two brothers, Ralph Burlock of Florida, and Harvey Burlock and his wife Thelma of Bethlehem; a sister, Bernice and her husband Brad Doane of Kennebunk, Maine; a sister-in-law, Helen Burlock of Vermont; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. , 86, longtime resident of Green Street in St. Johnsbury, passed away suddenly in peace at his home in Rutland with wife, Lois, and son Richard at his side. There will be no services. He was buried at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in St. Johnsbury.
Kenneth "Tink" L. Goslant Sr. ....show
, formerly of Peacham, died Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, at the Pines Rehabilitation and Health Center in Lyndonville at the age of 91. He was born in Peacham July 1, 1914, the son of Fred and Hattie (Wood) Goslant. Kenneth spent his early years working on the farm and logging in the area. Many in the area will remember "Tink" when he was a salesman for McLaren's Equipment in Passumpsic for many years. Kenneth liked to fish and hunt but was so very fond of just tinkering with machines and things around the house. On June 10, 1936, he married Ruby (Hutchins) Goslant, who survives him currently at the Pines in Lyndonville. Other survivors include two sons, Kenneth Goslant Jr. and his companion Sharon of Peacham, and Albert Goslant and his companion Janet of Maine; a daughter, Marion Goguen and her companion Ray Letourneau of Peacham; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Mitchell and Damon; a granddaughter, Shannon; and his special cat "Mikey." Memorial services will be held at the Peacham Congregational Church on Monday, Sept. 19, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Dr. Robert Potter officiating. There will be no visiting hours. , of St. Johnsbury, a longtime area milkman, passed away Tuesday morning, Sept. 13, 2005, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital at the age of 71. He was born in East St. Johnsbury on Jan. 21, 1934, the son of Raymond Sr. and Jeannie (Ramage) Locke. He graduated from St. Johnsbury Trade School, Class of 1953. From the time he was 18 to his retirement in 1996, David knew one job and that was being a milkman. He worked originally for Kilfasset Farms, which became part of Billings Dairy, then Idlenot Dairy, Booth Bros., and HP Hood and Sons. His principal route went from Lancaster, north on Route 3 all the way to Pittsburg, and over to Canaan and Island Pond. David showed great courage and an upbeat attitude as he faced his eight-year battle with cancer. Many people knew him as the mayor of the Green Mountain Mall where he loved to be out and socialize with people. Sears even had a designated recliner for him. He remained very faithful to his daughter Melody who resides at The Pines in Lyndonville. He loved to root for the Yankees and the Boston Celtics and will be missed dearly by friends and family. He is survived by his wife, Jean (Piper) Locke of St. Johnsbury (37 First St., Box 7A, 05819); three children, Randy Locke, Melody Locke (601 Red Village Rd. 05851), and Kim Russell and her husband Tim (1099 Mt. Pisgah Rd. 05819); four grandchildren, Christina and Maranda Locke, and Trish and Kris Russell; one sister, Betty Heath and her husband Roland Sr. of North Danville; and nieces and nephews and their families. A brother, Raymond Jr., predeceased him in 1992. Funeral services will be held this Saturday at 11 a.m. at the North Danville Baptist Church with the Rev. Glen Hatch, family friend, officiating. Cremation will follow the funeral with family committal services on Sunday at the Grove Cemetery in East St. Johnsbury. Visiting hours will be held Friday evening from 5-8 p.m. at the Sayles Funeral Home. , a longtime Lyndonville resident, passed away peacefully Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005, at his residence from cancer. The son of Cecil W. and Ruth M. (Durgin) Gray, he was born Nov. 10, 1934, in Morgan, Vt. Alton worked as an insurance representative for John Hancock Insurance Co. for several years, most recently spending his time providing his services for friends and family. He married Virginia F. Musgrove, who predeceased him Feb. 4, 2000, at their home away from home in Zephyrhills, Fla. Alton is survived by two daughters, Sherry and her husband Gary Norcross of Wheelock, and Debbie McDowell of Wheelock; loving friend, Linda Stimpson of South Wheelock; grandchildren, Scott Norcross of Tacoma, Wash., Cleo Shockey of Lockhart, Texas, Stephanie and her partner Karen DeCesare of Orleans, Daniel Norcross of Bar Harbor, Maine, Alton C. Gray of Sutton, and Jake McDowell of Wheelock; great-grandchildren, Damien Gray and Diane Gray, both of Concord, Vt.; sisters Pauline and her husband Dexter Bennett of West Charleston, and Lucy and her husband Allen Wing of Jacksonville, Fla.; nephews, Don Bennett and Dean Bennett, both of West Charleston; and a niece, Melanie Allard of Lyndonville. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his son, Michael Gray, on Jan. 14, 2005; and a daughter-in-law, Diane Gray, on Sept. 3, 2003. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 17, at 11 a.m., at the Lyndonville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Barbara A. Dwyer officiating. Interment will follow in the Lyndon Center Cemetery. A time for remembrance will follow back at the church. Alton was greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew him. , 85, of Island Pond, Vt., passed away Tuesday evening in Newport, Vt. She was born Feb. 13, 1920, the daughter of Walter and Bessie (Coe) Wheeler. She was a member of the Island Pond Congregational Church as well as a choir member. She was a member of the East Burke Historical Society Board as well as a member of the cemetery committee. She lived her life primarily as a devoted wife and a loving, caring, attentive mother and grandmother. She loved to write poetry, draw and play bingo, among other endeavors. Arlene is survived by her children, Roberta "Tooty" Chesney and her husband Ronald of Island Pond, Gloria Moulton and her special friend William Leavens Sr. of Derby, Sandra Pond and her husband Victor "Slugger" of Derby, Kathy Smith and her husband Ricky of East Haven, and Francis "Frank" Garrow and his special friend Sheila Lamare of Morgan; grandchildren, Rhonda Fortin and family, Roger Chesney and family, Rolinda Mahoney and family, Robin Letourneau and son, Rachel Pepin and family, Christopher Pond and fiance, Kevin Pond and wife, Jeremy Smith and son, Gwen Clark and son, and Jessie Smith; and 13 grandchildren. Arlene was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Bernard "Jim" Garrow, in 1994; by a brother, Alfred; two sisters, Bernice Willson and Gladys Dwyer; and her aunt and uncle, Frank and Nellie Counter, who raised her as their own after the loss of her parents. Friends may call at the Island Pond Congo Church on Friday, Sept. 16, from 1-2 p.m. Funeral services will be held there at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Roger Fletcher officiating.
