Donnal Dean Maloney Jr. ....show
, 60, of Beebe died on Saturday, September 17, 2011, in Lebanon, New Hampshire. During his final hours, Mr. Maloney was surrounded by his loving family, sharing many memories with them, including his beloved daughter, Maia (via cell phone), from London, England. He was the beloved son of Dean and Rita Maloney, born in Newport on August 7, 1951. Mr. Maloney was a passionate and gifted math and science teacher. During his teaching career, he taught middle school, high school, and college students in the Newport and Orleans area. His gift of teaching touched many students of all ages. Mr. Maloney was a graduate of Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts. He attended Columbia University in New York City and obtained his master's degree from Johnson State College in Johnson. He was a talented pianist and he was also an avid cyclist, mountain climber, skier, and traveler. One of his greatest trips was with his son Seth (the light of his life) to the beautiful southwestern United States. Mr. Maloney leaves many loving relatives including his parents, Dean and Rita Maloney of Newport; his son Seth Maloney of Hardwick, his daughter Hiata and her husband, Steffan, of Duxbury, and his daughter Maia and her husband, Jess, of London, England. Mr. Maloney was predeceased by his son, Ben, in 1985. He also leaves behind his sister Darin (Dari) and her husband, Norm, of Monkton; his uncle Andy and his wife, Wanda, of Derby; his aunt Pat of Bradenton, Florida; his dear cousins: Skip and his wife, Val, of Coventry, Rick and Ann of Newport Center, Terry and his wife, Julie, of Burlington, Gigi and her husband, Tony, of Derby, Tonya and her husband, Jeff, of Ferrisburg, Tina and her husband, Harold, of Montpelier, and Jim and his wife, Sue, of Milton. He also leaves behind many close friends and colleagues throughout Vermont and the United States. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 1, at St. Edwards Cemetery in Derby Line. , 81, died August 20, 2011. Born in Vermont, he was a resident of Springfield, Massachusetts over 50 years; and previously lived in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts. He was a U.S. Army peacetime veteran. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for 20 years as a truck driver for H.P. Hood & Son in Agawam, Massachusetts. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Theresa (Choquette) Paquette; two sons: Gil Paquette of North Carolina and Gary Paquette of Wisconsin; three daughters: Susan Buckmaster and her husband, William, of Texas, Donna Bihler and her husband, Kurt, of East Longmeadow, and Monica Stechshulte and her husband, Nick, of Georgia; two brothers; four sisters; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A funeral Mass was held in Springfield, Massachusetts in August. Interment followed in the Veterans' Cemetery in Agawam, Massachusetts. , 87, of Pudding Hill in Lyndonville died on September 17, 2011, surrounded by his family. Since February 2011 he'd been a resident of St. Johnsbury Health and Rehab, battling a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Mr. Paris was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, on February 25, 1924, a son of Robert and Mabel (Gero) Paris. Mr. Paris loved his family and he loved farming. In 1956 he and his wife, Beverly, bought their farm on Pudding Hill where they built a life for themselves and their children. Together they created many fond memories that are cherished by the family to this day. Through the years he served as a fence viewer and lister for the town of Lyndon, as well as a member of the board of directors for Cabot Farmers Cooperative. He unconditionally put caring for his beloved family and his animals before himself. He loved all animals, large and small, and often referred to them as his silent friends. Mr. Paris was a proud veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Naval Air Force in the South Pacific from October 1942 through the end of the war. He is survived by his wife Beverly (Dopp) whom he married on March 3, 1948; their four children: Sharon Burnham of Danville, Cynthia McKnight and husband, Fred, of Peacham, Laurene Daniels and husband, Brian, of Brunswick, Maine, and Eric Paris and wife, Cathleen, of Lyndonville; nine grandchildren: Scott, Jason, and Kelly Burnham, Dylan and Tristan McKnight, Joseph Daniels and Meghan Cidlowski, Bonnie and Benjamin Paris; and his two great-grandsons, Hudson and Liam. He was predeceased by his parents and five brothers: Richard, David, Donald, Robert, and Harold. The family will observe their services privately with burial at the Lyndon Center Cemetery. , 58, of Coventry, Connecticut, formerly of Winthrop, Massachusetts, died unexpectedly on September 9, 2011. He was born the beloved son of Barbara M. and the late Robert M. Pettee Sr., and dear brother of Wayne Pettee and his wife, Michelle, of Winthrop and Brian Pettee of Simi Valley, California. Mr. Pettee was the beloved father of Robert M. Pettee III of Charlotte, North Carolina, and stepson Scott Blodgett of Boston, Massachusetts. Mr. Pettee is survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. He will forever be remembered for his kind heart and loyal friendship. A memorial service was held Saturday, September 17, at the United Methodist Church in Winthrop. Pauline Irene (Bullis) Sourdiff ....show
, 100, died on Sunday, September 4, 2011. She was born April 10, 1911 in Beebe, a daughter of Nelson and Ellen Elie. She married Albert Bullis on May 25, 1930 and started their family in Newport. Together they raised seven children until his death. In October of 1977 she married Joseph Sourdiff and added his six children into her family. Mrs. Sourdiff was predeceased by both Mr. Bullis and Mr. Sourdiff; a daughter, Arlene; her sons: Lawrence and Bruce; and by her stepdaughters: Leona and Arlene. She is survived by her daughters: Gloria and Beverly; her sons: Paul and Ronald; her stepdaughter, Pearl; her stepsons: Norman, Ronald, and Richard; and by several generations of grandchildren. A funeral service was held in Essex Junction on September 9. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Green Mountain Nursing Home, her friends and caregivers for all their love and support.

, 80, of Coventry died on September 14, 2011, in Newport. He was born on January 14, 1931 in Irasburg, a son of Peter and Lena (Smith) Taylor. On June 25, 1955 he married Virginia Mae Bowen who died on November 30, 2010. Mr. Taylor retired in 1995 after 38 years with the Vermont Department of Transportation where he served as the district supervisor. His civic contributions included Coventry Village Selectman from 1968 to 1970 and Water Commissioner from 1972 to 2009 (37 years). He was a lifelong member of the Eureka Grange of Coventry. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and being the village go-to man. Mr. Taylor took great pleasure in helping others, he was known by many, and respected by all. Mr. Taylor is survived by his children: Valerie and Brad Autry of Garland, Texas, Carleen and Mark Leonhardt of League City, Texas, Brian and Christine Taylor of Milton, and Steve Taylor and Sara Wright of Coventry; his grandchildren: Evan and his wife, Allie Autry, Tyla Autry, Courtney and Austin Leonhardt, Jenna and Jacob Taylor, and David, Kaitlyn, and Anthony Wright; his brother Bernard Taylor of Newport; his sisters-in-law: Dorothy Taylor of Troy and Lorraine Bowen of Derby; and by many nieces, nephews, and other relations. He was predeceased by his brother Raymond Taylor and his sister Eula Desbiens. , 94, of Newport died on September 4, 2011, in Newport. She was born April 1, 1917 in Newport Center, a daughter of William and Antoinette (Deslandes) Chaput. On August 17, 1937 she married Arthur Belisle who predeceased her. She and Mr. Belisle worked the family farm in Coventry for five years before buying their own farm in Troy in 1942, which they later sold in 1970. Mrs. Belisle enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning, family gatherings, and she liked to play bingo. She was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church in Troy and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Newport. She is survived by her children: Simone Graveline and her husband, Norman, of Derby, Jeannette Woods and her husband, William, of Florida, Armand Belisle of Derby, Lucien Belisle and his wife, Carmelita, of Colchester, Mary Ann Hogan and her husband, James, of Colorado, Pauline Comtois and her husband, Frank, of North Carolina, Lucille LaRose and her husband, Richard, of Derby, Evelyn Cottone of New York, Arlene Belisle of California, George Belisle of Derby, and Lisa Malloy and her husband, Marc, of Texas; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; her sisters: Bernadette Belisle of Derby Line, Vivian Farrar of Newport, and Ida Rowe of New Hampshire; her daughter-in-law Debbie Belisle of Williston; her sisters-in-law: Claudette Chaput and Iva Chaput; and by nieces, nephews, and numerous cousins. , 86, of Lowell, died on September 8, 2011. He was born January 8, 1925 in Guilford, a son of William and Bessie (Davis) Higley. Mr. Higley graduated from Brattleboro High School and then served two years in the U.S. Navy. In 1952 he graduated from the University of Vermont, where he was a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity and the Honorary Boulder Society. Mr. Higley was a builder and cabinet maker in the Brattleboro area for over 40 years. He was honored by the Vermont School Boards Association for 25 years of dedicated service to Windham Southeast Supervisory District schools. From a young age, he was an enthusiastic outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. In his retirement years he enjoyed golfing and his winters in Alabama. His main love was his family, his wife of 58 years, Georgia (Anderson), formerly of Proctor, his five sons and their spouses: Paul Higley and his wife, Katherine Simon, of Keene, New Hampshire, Mark Higley and his wife, Catherine, of Lowell, Eric Higley of Jeffersonville, Brian Higley and his wife, Margaret Rasmussen, of Beacon, New York, and Kristian Higley and his wife, Emma, of Brattleboro; his one daughter, Allison White, of Guilford; and his 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is survived by one brother, Herbert, of San Diego, California, and one sister, Wilma Higgins, of Guilford. He was predeceased by one half-brother, George, and two half-sisters, Lucy Higley and Evelyn Clark, all of Guilford. A celebration of Mr. Higley's life will be held Saturday, September 24, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the Higley home, 275 Buck Hill Road, Lowell. , 91, died on July 12, 2011 in Highland, New York, after a long illness. She was born April 24, 1920 in Derby, the second daughter of Robert E. and Mamie (Uttin) Gray. She attended school in Holland and West Charleston. In 1945 Mrs. Jennings married Harold Colville of Newburgh, New York. Mrs. Jennings was a licensed foster parent and the couple later adopted a five-day-old baby girl, Debra Mae. Mr. Colville predeceased Mrs. Jennings in 1959. She later married Idel Jennings Sr. After he died in 1979, she became a home caregiver, retiring in 1999. Mrs. Jennings was a member of the Chapel Hill Bible Church, Star of Bethlehem Lodge #48, West Charleston Historical Society, and Jenny's Garden Social Club. She was gifted with a great sense of humor and was an avid reader and great storyteller. She is survived by her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Barry Crego of Wallingford, Connecticut; her loving granddaughter, Annie Schneider of Connecticut; her grandson Chris Jennings of Newburgh, New York; her sisters: Marilyn Meleleu of Ludlow, Massachusetts, and Eleanor Tyler and her husband, Carl, of Derby; her brother Robert Gray and his wife, Peggy, of East Charleston; her nieces: Dianne and her husband, Richard Marceau, of Ludlow, Massachusetts, and Susan and her husband, Ron, of Springfield, Massachusetts; her nephews: Larry Smith and his wife, Penny, and Evan Smith and his wife, Priscilla, of Colchester; and her great-nieces and nephews. Mrs. Jennings was predeceased by sisters Ruth Gelineau and Helen Smith, and her little dog Cuddles. Special mention of good friends Robert Savage and George and Bernadette Bush of Newburgh, New York. , 73, younger son of the late John and Marion Natole of Newport, died on September 6, 2011, at the Village Rest Home in Leominster, Massachusetts. He was born in Newport on April 14, 1938. He has lived in Massachusetts since the age of six, receiving his training and care at the Dr. Franklin Perkins School in Lancaster, Massachusetts, until 1993 when he moved to Gardner, Massachusetts, in 2004. From October 2004 until now, he has resided in Leominster at the Village Rest Home where he was lovingly cared for by dedicated staff. Mr. Natole was a very friendly and outgoing gentleman who enjoyed old and new friends. He loved going to work, shopping, eating out, and visits from Edyth Krzysko who was his friend since childhood and became his guardian when his mother could no longer care for him. He became a member of the Krzysko family and was visited often by them and the Benson family. He was also a welcomed member of the Wayne and Marye McKenney family in Clinton, Massachusetts, who have known him since he was at Perkins School. He enjoyed many outings and visits with the family. He was also well cared for by respite workers Kathy, Lori, and George, among others, at DDS and Matson Community Service. He is survived by his cousin, Nancy Hill Turner of Vista, California, and his adopted family in Newport. He was predeceased by his father, John Natole, in 1966, his mother, Marion Hill Natole, in 1995, and his older brother John Jr. in 1952. Mr. Natole is lovingly remembered by all who cared for him. A graveside service was held on September 8 at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Newport. , 89, of West Glover, died on August 21, 2011, at home and with his family at his side. He was born July 3, 1922 in Boone, Colorado, a son of Clarence and Ruth (Rasmussen) Shockley. He married Helen Alley who predeceased him on February 12, 2010. He was a veteran of World War II. During his lifetime he was a manager for Safeway retail groceries. In 2003 he moved to Vermont to be near his son and daughter-in-law. Among his hobbies, he enjoyed golfing. He is survived by his son Douglas Duncan and his wife, Jane, of West Glover. , 33, of North Troy died suddenly on August 29, 2011 at his home in North Troy. He was born on March 31, 1978, a beloved son of Raymond and Lillian (Letourneau) Bathalon. On September 30, 2006 he married Jolene Tardif who survives him. He attended North Country Union High School. Mr. Bathalon was employed as a carpenter for Piette Building Construction of Newport Center. His hobbies included hunting, playing basketball, and he enjoyed attending his children's sports activities and spending time with his family and friends. He was also a Red Sox fan. Mr. Bathalon is survived by his wife Jolene Bathalon of North Troy; his parents, Raymond and Lillian Bathalon of Troy; by his children: Taylor McMann Bathalon, stepson Grant Andrew Blake, Mariah Ann Bathalon, stepson Gabriel Austin Blake, and Lacey Brooke Bathalon; by his maternal grandfather Paul Letourneau of Derby; and by his brothers and sisters: Marc Bathalon and his wife, Sheila, of Monroe, New Hampshire, Allan Bathalon and his wife, Karen, of North Troy, Gilles Bathalon and his wife, Kelly, of Lowell, Emily Bathalon of Westfield and her companion, Justin Carpenter; and by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and his yellow labrador, Jaxon. , 83, of Craftsbury, died on Friday, September 2, 2011, at his home in the tender care of his loving wife, Nancy, following a long illness. He was born in Swampscott, Massachusetts, on September 24, 1927, a son of Earl L. and Anna W. (Ystrom) Bohannon. Mr. Bohannon's mother died when he was only three, and he was raised by a wonderful grandmother and father to be a fine man. A 1945 graduate of Howe High School in Billerica, Massachusetts, he entered the U.S. Army in September 1946 to serve in Europe at the close of World War II. Following that service, he attended Tufts University and earned a bachelor's degree in liberal arts in 1952. Mr. Bohannon worked many years as a claims adjuster for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, living in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Maine. He moved to Craftsbury in 2001 and married Nancy Marshall Richter in 2002. Mr. Bohannon was a kind, loving and generous man. He cherished, most of all, his wife, his family and friends, his home, his dogs, his beautiful flower gardens, and his beloved Red Sox, being a fan since 1936. He was one of those rare, truly good people, gracious and kind at heart, working hard and giving throughout his entire life. His cheerful, positive spirit and warm, strong presence will be missed. Mr. Bohannon is survived by his wife, Nancy; a step family who loved him very much; cherished birth family members; and many dear friends, including the Shaw family in Maine. His family is grateful for the generous support of those in the community, including especially his much loved niece Belinda Brown and husband, Phil Lovely, and his good friend Addison Merrick. He was predeceased by his parents, his first wife, Elizabeth Koerness Bohannon, and a half-brother, Earl L. Bohannon. , 87, of Island Pond died on August 28, 2011 in Newport. She was born on September 7, 1923 in Island Pond, a daughter of William and Martha (Romanus) Joseph. Mrs. Brault married Dr. Clement Brault who predeceased her on November 2, 2002. Mrs. Brault held memberships with the St. James Greater Church of Island Pond and the Women's Parish Club. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 80 of Island Pond. Mrs. Brault graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Island Pond and attended secretarial school in Hartford, Connecticut. At one time she was employed by Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, Connecticut. She is survived by her brother and sisters: Isabelle DiPaolo of Winston Salem, North Carolina; Alice Taves of Portsmouth, Virginia; Rose Marie Belisle of Island Pond; Raymond Joseph of Island Pond; and Joan Marie Franklin of Bronxville, New York; her stepchildren: Rose Marie Brault of Avon, Florida, Marguerite Overington of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Elizabeth Miller of Savannah, Georgia, Paul Brault of Williston, Florida; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters: Marion Joseph and Margaret Anton; and by two brothers: Joseph (Dodie) Joseph and Albert W. Joseph; and by a stepson, Dennis Brault. , 71, of Norton died on August 29, 2011 in Norton. She was born on September 6, 1939 in Barnet, a daughter of Lewis and Thelma (Champigny) Hadley. During her lifetime she was an aide for area nursing homes and at one time she was employed by the Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury as a dietician aide. Her hobbies included watching NASCAR and other stock car races. She also enjoyed watching NFL football. She is survived by three sons; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, David Hadley and his wife, Debra, of Bristol, Connecticut; by her sister, Marion McLam and her husband, Wendall, of Terryville, Connecticut; and by several nieces and nephews. , 72, of Craftsbury, died on Saturday, September 3, 2011, at her home in the loving care of her family following a long battle with cancer. She was born in Randolph on November 11, 1938, a daughter of Eugene and Evelyn (Conant) Squire. She received her degree in teaching from Johnson State College. On July 7, 1961, she married Wayne G. Dunbar. They made their home in Greensboro until 1973 when they moved to the home farm in Craftsbury. Mrs. Dunbar was a member as well as Sunday school teacher at the Greensboro United Church for many years, a 50-year member of the Grange and long-time secretary of Caspian Lake Grange, a former member of the Home Demonstration Club, a former trustee of the John W. Simpson Memorial Library, and a former school board member in Craftsbury. She taught at the Creek Road School in Craftsbury for a year and a half, then in Walden. She helped her husband on the family farm and raised her children. She enjoyed reading (especially westerns), gardening (both her flowers and vegetables), and the cattle on the farm. She also enjoyed competing in primitive biathalons. She gave her maximum to her husband, children, and grandchildren, and when in doubt, she fed someone. Mrs. Dunbar is survived by her husband, Wayne; two sons: Mark Dunbar and his wife, Tule Fogg, and Keith Dunbar, both of Craftsbury; two daughters: Sonia Dunbar, and Martha Dunbar and her husband, Theodore Lubicich, both of Albany; a brother, Eugene Squire Jr. and his wife, Dorothy, of Randolph Center; her grandchildren: John, Elaine, Sarah, and Lily Dunbar, and Seviah, Peter and Alexander Pitt; several nieces and nephews; as well as extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents and a daughter-in-law, Stephanie Dunbar. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 10, at 1 p.m. at the Greensboro United Church with Reverend Tony Acheson and Reverend Alan Parker officiating. , 82, died on Wednesday, August 31, 2011, at her home in Newport Center with her loving family at her side. She was born December 5, 1928 in Ways Mills, Quebec, a daughter of the late John and Vera (Kezar) Gledhill. Mrs. Lucier was a longtime resident of Richford. For the past two years, Mr. and Mrs. Lucier have made their home in Newport Center with her son and daughter-in-law. Mrs. Lucier was a bank teller for Valley Trust in North Troy for several years and was also a bank teller for the Franklin Lamoille Bank in Richford, retiring after 27 years of employment there. She was a life member of the Order of Eastern Star, Martha Washington Chapter. She enjoyed swimming, camping, reading, and knitting. Mrs. Lucier is survived by her husband, Norman Lucier; her son Rodney and his wife, Valerie, of Newport Center; her grandchildren: Michael and Heather of Newport Center; her sister, Geraldine Peters of Dixville, Quebec; her niece, Valerie Cardyn and her husband, Paul; her nephew, Victor Peters and his wife, Ann; her brother-in-law, Duane Lucier and his wife, Frances, of Jay, and their children: Steve, Mark and Cindy. In keeping with Mrs. Lucier's wishes, she will be cremated and interred in the North Troy Cemetery in a private family ceremony. There will be no visiting hours. For those who wish, contributions in Mrs. Lucier's memory may be made to the Richford First Baptist Church, 33 School Street, Richford, Vermont 05476; or to the Orleans Essex Visiting Nurse Association, 46 Lakemont Road, Newport, Vermont 05855.
Bernard Samuel Payeur ....show
, 90, of Derby died on August 28, 2011, in Newport. He was born on March 26, 1921 in Island Pond, a son of Samuel and Alice (Thibodeau) Payeur. On October 9, 1946 he married Vernice Twofoot who survives him. Mr. Payeur was a veteran of World War II. He was a supervisor for the Groveton Paper Company in Groveton, New Hampshire. He ran the Gilman Hotel until the paper mill closed. He was also a manager of the St. Michael's College snack bar. He held memberships with American Legion Post 80 and Random VFW Post 2309, both of Island Pond. He was also a member of the Brighton Snowmobile Club. His hobbies included snowmobiling, golfing in his younger years, singing in the choir at St. James Church, cooking, and woodworking. He loved his friends who have gone before him. Mr. Payeur is survived by his wife Vernice (Bunnie) Payeur of Derby; his son David Payeur of Oregon; four grandchildren: Jennifer, Christopher, Samantha, and Tiffany; and by two great-grandchildren: Paul and Michael. He was predeceased by two sons: Philip Payeur and Craig Payeur; a brother Gerald Payeur; and by two sisters: Bernandine Germaine and Geraldine Christie. Funeral services were held September 2 in Island Pond. Interment with full military honors followed at Lakeside Cemetery in Island Pond. Paul M. Sicard ....show
, 52, of Derby died on August 29, 2011, in Lebanon, New Hampshire. He was born on June 2, 1959 in Newport, a son of Mariette (Beaudette) Sicard and the late Edward R. Sicard. On November 7, 1992 he married Bonita Sanville who survives him. Mr. Sicard was a machinist at Tivoly in Derby Line. He was a former member of the Derby Fish and Game and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, race car driving, playing cards, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Mr. Sicard worked on the old game preserve Dav-Lin Acres, he enjoyed his television, NASCAR racing, and he was a New York Yankees fan. He is survived by his wife Bonita Sicard of Derby; his mother Mariette Sicard of Derby; and by the following children: Anita Lepine and her companion, Carlton Billado Jr., of North Troy, Clinton Mihill and his fiancé, Corina Marcoux, of Manchester, New Hampshire, Shawn Sicard and his companion, Jessica Chauvin, of Northfield, Jodie Greenwood and her companion, David Mason III, of Lyndonville and Branford, Connecticut, and Ricky Sicard of Derby; by his grandchildren: Aaron and Gabriel Lepine, Brent Trudeau, Ryan Mihill, Donovan Sicard, Jonathan Sicard, and Levi Greenwood; by a brother, Denis Sicard, and his wife, Heidi, of Colorado; by his sisters: Helen Gagnon and her husband, Paul, of Derby Line; and Denise Bennett and her companion, Pete Baez, of Northfield; and by aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. Funeral services were held on September 1 at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Newport. Interment followed in Newport Center Cemetery.
