Edward Roger Miller ....show
, 86, Morrisville, Vt., passed away Monday, Oct. 10, 2005, at his home. Roger was born in Johnson on Nov. 30, 1918, the son of Edward R. and Gladys Etta (Waters) Miller. After attending elementary school in Johnson, Roger graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1937 and went on to complete his education at Baypath Institute in Springfield, Mass. Employed by the Vermont State Highway Department Survey Section, Roger enlisted in the regular Army in 1941, and served for 10 years, with the Air Transport Command and the 101st Airborne with tours of duty that included the American, Asiatic and European theaters during World War II. He again served his country, answering a call to duty during the Korean Conflict. Roger married Marjorie M. Stevens of St. Johnsbury in 1942 and they had two children. Roger entered the insurance business in 1954, and was president of S R Miller and Son Inc. of Johnson, Vt., for 42 years. Roger also held a directorship at the Sterling Trust Company (now Merchants Bank) of Johnson and was a former trustee of Copley Hospital of Morrisville. Roger was a member of VFW Post 9653 Morrisville and had just received his 60-year membership pin from Mount Vernon Lodge 8, F & AM. Throughout his active life, Roger pursued varied interests such as training and showing Morgan horses, skiing with his family, boating and golfing. In his later years, Roger became a prolific master craftsman, sharing his work with many friends and family throughout Vermont. He was a true artist of his craft. He is survived by his beloved partner of 28 years, Kathleen Ann Lanman of Morrisville; her son, Jordan of Burlington; Marjorie Miller of South Burlington; his children, Jeffrey and Brenda Miller of Hyde Park and Janice Sawtell of South Burlington; his grandchildren, Ian and Robbin Miller of Johnson, Christi and Dan Dussault of Hyde Park, Andrew Sawtell of South Burlington and Erin and Aaron Phelan of Milton, five great-grandchildren, Tully and Marcail Miller, Remy and Brie Dussault and Maya Phelan; and his beloved dog, Sam. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Miller Foss, in 2005. At Roger's request, there will be no services. Burial will be in the Lamoille View Cemetery, Johnson, at the convenience of his family. Claire G. Morency ....show
of St. Johnsbury, Vt., passed away Wednesday morning, Oct. 12, 2005, at the age of 77. She was born in St. Johnsbury on Dec. 9, 1927, the daughter of Alcide and Leda (Fournier) Morency. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Rita Morency, with whom she made her home; and by a brother, the Rev. Rosario Morency. Rita passed away June 27, 2001, Fr. Morency on Oct. 25, 1991. Claire was a 1944 graduate of Mt. St. Joseph Academy. She began her career at the Passumpsic Savings Bank in 1957 and retired as a vice president in the loan department. She was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church. Her family includes a few cousins and their families. Since her sister Rita's death and throughout Claire's illness, Claire was supported and cared for by her faithful and dear friend, Marguerite Willey. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, Oct. 14, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. , age 76, a longtime Lyndonville resident, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2005, at the St. Johnsbury Health & Rehab Center. Born April 24, 1929 in Lyndon, Vt., she was the daughter of Lesim and Jennie (Meehan) Hitchcock. Gladys worked throughout her life at Glovers in St. Johnsbury, Luigi's restaurant, the Darling Inn and retired from Vermont Tap & Die, all in Lyndonville. Gladys enjoyed her family, shopping, cooking and trying new recipes, knitting, family cookouts, bingo, crossword puzzles and watching the birds from her window. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 30 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 10038, both of Lyndonville. Gladys is survived by six children, Elaine Rexford and her husband Kenneth of Lyndonville and Palmetto, Fla., Cheryl Giguere and her husband William of Sutton, Lyle Degreenia and his wife Beth of Lyndonville, Evelyn Charron and her husband Paul of Lyndonville, Darrell Degreenia and his wife Karen of Sutton, and Terri Taylor of Burke Hollow. Twelve grandchildren, Christine Dixon; Candy Maseth, both of Bradenton, Fla.; Robert Giguere and Kathy Gammell of St. Johnsbury; Karen Badurski and her husband Steve of Sheffield; Tonya Caron and her husband Dana of East Haven; Todd Degreenia of Burlington; Amy Pickens; Kellee Johns and her husband Jason, both of Lyndonville; Karla Degreenia of Savannah, Ga., Alissa Degreenia of Sutton; Loni Taylor; Timothy Taylor, both of Burke Hollow. Ten great-grandchildren: Benjamin Dixon; Haley Maseth; Robert Badurski; Matthew Badurski; Gregory Pickens; Jillian Pickens; Spencer Johns; Jaydon Caron; Brittany Caron; Damon Ruggles; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers and three sisters. Russell Joseph Carbonneau ....show
, age 52, of Wells River, Vt., formerly of Lowell, Mass., died unexpectedly on Friday, Oct. 7, 2005 at the Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, N.H. For over 30 years, he was the beloved husband of Diane E. (Bourassa) Carbonneau. He was born in Lowell on Oct. 13, 1952, son of the late Russell Sylvio Carbonneau and Eileen (McCarthy) Carbonneau. He received his education in Lowell Schools and was a former communicant of the former St. Peter's Church in Lowell. Mr. Carbonneau had been a longtime resident of Lowell prior to his moving to Vermont 15 years ago. He was employed in Custodial Maintenance at Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, N.H. for over six years. Prior to moving to Vermont, locally, he was employed as a machinist at Lane Machine Co., in Billerica. He had also worked at Avco in Lowell. He was an avid musician and enjoyed teaching music and instrument lessons. An avid guitar player, he also enjoyed singing. Mr. Carbonneau's favorite pastime was growing and raising prize pumpkins around his property for relatives and friends, which he did for many years. Besides his wife, survivors include two sons: Russell Carbonneau of Arlington, Mass. and Robert Landry of Manchester, N.H.; three daughters: Shelly Lescard of Nashua, N.H., Tammy James and April Carbonneau, both of Mass.; six brothers: Ronnie, Ricky, Johnny, Randy, Lee and Ray Carbonneau; three sisters: Adella "Dolly" Hargreaves, Sandy Lloyd and Rosemary Carbonneau, all of Massachusetts; also several grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. He was also the brother of the late Eileen "Dede" Carbonneau and Wayne Carbonneau. Visiting hours took place on Tuesday at the M.R. Laurin & Son Funeral Home, 295 Pawtucket St., Lowell, Mass. The funeral was Wednesday morning with a funeral Mass celebrated at Holy Family Parish (Ste. Marie's Church) in South Lowell at 11 a.m. Interment was in the family plot at St. Joseph Cemetery in Chelmsford, Mass.
Carl E. L. Eckert ....show
of North Concord, Vt., died at the Pines Rehabilitation and Health Center in Lyndonville, Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005, at the age of 80. He was born in East Hartford, Conn., July 1, 1925, the son of Herman and Ebba Eckert. Carl served his country during World War II in the United States Navy. He had various jobs including his work at Georgia-Pacific as a mill wright for 15 years. Carl had a passion for using his hands to build things; he was a great cabinet maker as well as a vary good winemaker. Many will remember his flower gardens that filled the yard with color. Survivors include his wife, Lois (Dunn) Eckert of North Concord; three sons, John "Jack" and his wife, Angela, of North Concord, Kurt and his wife, Paula Eckert, of St. Albans and Carl Eckert of East Haven; a brother, William Eckert of Trumbull, Conn.; and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held at his home in North Concord (25 Bona Road) Sunday, Oct. 23, from 1-5 p.m. All are welcome. There will be no calling hours; burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

, 90, a resident of the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center, died on Oct. 12, 2005. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Lynne Lawson of Peacham, Vt.; and one grandchild, Kirsten Lawson of Santa Fe, N.M. Her husband of 67 years, Eldon A. Lawson, died in 1993. Mrs. Lawson was born in Brockton, Mass., in 1914. She was a 1932 graduate of Brockton High School and served as vice president of her class throughout her four years. Married in 1936, she and her husband lived in Shirley Center, Mass., from 1938 until 1963 where she was active in a woman's club and in a range of community activities. Her family later moved to Norwich, Conn., finally retiring in 1976 to Fort Myers, Fla. In 2001 Mr. and Mrs. Lawson moved back to New England to the Craftsbury (Vermont) Community Care Center where they lived until 2003. The family is planning a private memorial service.

, age 88, passed away Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005, in Louisville, Ky. He was a native of Montreal, Quebec, Canada and a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Lyndonville. He is survived by two sons, James R. Wishart and his wife, Linda, and John G. Wishart and his wife, Karen, all of St. Louis, Mo. A funeral service will be held Monday, Oct. 17, at 11 a.m. at Pearsons Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Lyndon Center Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Sunday between the hours of 4 and 6 p.m. also at the funeral home, located at 70 Church St., Lyndonville. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

, age 87, of West Street, Lisbon, N.H., passed away Saturday, Oct. 15, 2005, at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Eva was born on Dec. 3, 1917, a daughter to Benjamin and Almeda O. (Gilbert) Powers in Brownington, Vt. Eva was a lifelong resident of Lisbon and was known to everyone as "Gram." She will be loved and missed by all. Gram leaves behind four children, Virginia Brooks of Lisbon, N.H., Lawrence Laleme of Lisbon, N.H., Elizabeth Holbrook of Irasburg, Vt., and Douglas Laleme of Bethlehem, N.H.; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Her husband, Harold Laleme, predeceased her in 1972. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, Oct. 18, from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Pillsbury Funeral Home - Lisbon Chapel, 77 South Main St. Funeral services will be held at the Shared Ministry Brick Church on Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Lyn O. Winter officiating. Burial will be in the Grove Hill Cemetery in Lisbon. , 85, of Franconia, N.H., formerly of Lisbon, N.H., passed away on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005, at the Lafayette Center. Dorothy was born on March 7, 1920, a daughter to William P. and Florence (McGonigle) Wetherbee in Littleton, N.H. She was a 1937 graduate of Lisbon High School. Dorothy was a lifelong member of the Lisbon Congregational Church, a member and secretary of the DORCAS Society, and a trustee and treasurer for the Lisbon Public Library. She was a great cook and avid gardener, and was well-known for her pies and pickles. Two daughters, June Eaton of Bethlehem, N.H., and Lissa and Donald Boissonneault of Sugar Hill, N.H.; four grandchildren, Robert Rayburn and his wife Kim of Bethlehem, N.H., Pamela Rayburn of West Palm Beach, Fla., Ryan Boissonneault and his wife Meredith of Landaff, N.H., and Haley Boissonneault of Sugar Hill, N.H.; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Florence W. Lavoie of Phoenix, Ariz., survive Dorothy. Her husband of 62 years, Cleve "Bud" Presby, predeceased her in 2001. At the request of the family, all services will be private. , 64, an East Burke resident, passed away Friday, Oct. 14, 2005, at his residence. Born March 18, 1941, in Woodsville, N.H., he was the son of Roland T. and Dolores (Allard) Degree. Moe was a 1960 graduate of Lyndon Institute, married Jacqueline M. Cadieux April 1, 1967, was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, was employed as a shift supervisor at St. Johnsbury Correctional Facility and was looked up to by all, including fellow workers and inmates alike throughout the state. Moe's family was the most important part of his life, they will miss him dearly. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, bird watching, gardening, walking, painting, nature, carpentry, making bird houses and antiques. He was a member of the VFW Post 10038 in Lyndonville. Moe is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Jackie of East Burke; a son, Maurice E. Degree of Lyndonville and his fiancee Noemi Guerra; a daughter, Danielle Renee Degree-Ghirarda and her husband Matthew of Methuen, Mass.; two brothers, John Degree of St. Johnsbury, and Roland Degree of Lunenburg; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 11 a.m., at the Lyndonville First Congregational Church with the Rev. Billy Wandless (brother-in-law), officiant. Visiting hours will be Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Pearsons Funeral Home, located at 70 Church St., Lyndonville. Interment with military honors provided by the Vermont National Guard, also a detail of law enforcement provided by the Correctional Center, will be in the Lyndon Center Cemetery.

, 95, of Ingerson Road, Lancaster, N.H., died Friday morning, Oct. 14, 2005, at the Littleton Regional Hospital. Mrs. Ingerson was born in Kingsley Falls, Quebec, on June 23, 1910, the daughter of Elzear and Alphonsine (Taillon) Beaudoin. From 1945 to 1953 she was employed at the Weeks estate as a cook and housekeeper. She later worked at the Whitefield Laundry from 1953 to 1959. She then went to work at Manchester Knitting, Whitefield, until 1973. Mary loved to knit and bake and was a talented seamstress who enjoyed sewing and crocheting. She was a communicant of All Saints Church, Lancaster. Family members include four sons, James Ingerson of Lunenburg, Vt., Roger Ingerson and his wife Marilyn of Cheshire, Conn., Clifford Ingerson and his wife Josephine of Mobile, Ala., and Roland Ingerson of Lunenburg, Vt.; three daughters, Martha Briggs and her husband Carl of Lancaster, Maureen Sullivan of Norwich, Vt., and Mary Hall and her husband Chet of Bethlehem; a brother, Gerard Beaudoin and his wife Lucille of Warwick, Quebec; 39 grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Her husband, Clifford A. Ingerson, predeceased her in 1975. A visiting hour will be held Tuesday morning, Oct. 18, from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow immediately after at All Saints Church at 12 p.m. The Rev. Raymond Ball, pastor, will officiate. Katherine "Kay" Pauline Musty ....show
, 86, died Oct. 6, 2005, at Mt. Ascutney Hospital. She was born in Cessna, Pa., on Aug. 22, 1919. Katherine was one of 12 children born to Fannie Mae and Clyde Walter. They grew up on a farm in Waterville, Ohio. Her remaining sisters are Pearl Bergman and Betty Greiser of Ohio, Dorothy Rae Boehk of Massachusetts and Florida, and Fannie Mae Davis of Woodsville, N.H. Her surviving brother, Charles Walter, resides in Texas. In high school, Kay worked as a nanny and cook. She graduated from Davis Business College as a secretary. After graduation, her varied jobs included the positions of secretary and telephone operator. She was a USO hostess in Toledo, Ohio, during the early years of World War II when she met her future husband, Edgar Musty of Piermont, N.H. They married May 8, 1944, in the Piermont Congregational Church. During Edgar's service years, Kay accompanied him to each military base posting, working various jobs, including box-making at a sawmill in Texas. Her favorite position was as a secretary in the office for test pilots at Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, Wash. She enjoyed the city of Seattle with its mild climate, rolling hills and the expansive Pacific Ocean. After the war, Kay and Ed bought the Musty farm in Piermont, N.H., from his parents. Katherine helped run the family farm while raising four children, Jane, Samuel, Susan and Peter. During this time she was also very active in the community: a member of the "Watch-M-Pops," a group of expectant mothers spending social time together; a longtime member of the Women's Fellowship of the Piermont Congregational Church; as an instructor in the Ford-Sayer Ski Program in Orford, N.H.; and providing flowers for the Piermont Congregational Church services. Among her many accomplishments, Katherine brought her sister, Fannie Mae Walter, and her friend, Helen Proshek, from Ohio to the area to meet and marry two of the bachelor farmers of Piermont - Eric Davis and Fremont Ritchie. After retirement from the farm, Kay was very busy continuing with many community activities, such as the Women's Fellowship, spending many hours organizing and soliciting for church suppers and other fund-raisers as needed. Known for her vibrant and spacious gardens, Kay was active in the Haverhill Garden Club for several years. Katherine's first passion was for her husband and family and after retirement her grandchildren, Emily, Jacob and Tyler Musty; Oliver Stewart; and Ira and Margaret Musty were central in her life. Her second love was for her gardens. Katherine loved to show her flowers and share her plants with friends and family who stopped by. She continued to grow and tend her flowers for her church and her friends and family up until the day before she went to the hospital. In addition, Kay enjoyed traveling to visit family or discover new places, and spent many Saturday mornings at yard sales and flea markets browsing for bargains and presents for her family. Katherine was predeceased by her husband, Edgar Musty; and will live on and be cherished in the memories of her children, Jane (Musty) Wilcox of Newton Corner, Mass., Sam Musty of Piermont, N.H., Susan Musty of Lyme Center, N.H., and Peter Musty of Ryegate, Vt. Donations in her memory may be made to Piermont Village School Arts and Entertainment Fund (to bring cultural events and teaching to the school), Attn: Nancy Sandell, Principal, P.O. , husband, father, grandfather and lifelong resident of the Littleton area, passed away Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005, at his home at the age of 80. Bernard shared his life with Irene Boyle Lynde, his wife of 50 years; their sons, Kevin Lynde and David Lynde, and their families including three grandchildren, Ryan Lynde, Heather Lynde and Brandon Lynde. "Bernie" was actively involved in his community including All Saints Episcopal Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Grange and several other civic organizations. He was graduated from McIndoes Academy and served his community during World War II in the U.S. Navy. A memorial service will be held at the All Saints Episcopal Church, 35 School St., Littleton, N.H., on Thursday, Oct. 20, at 11 a.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Country Home Health and Hospice Agency, 536 Cottage St., Littleton, NH 03561; or Hospice of the Littleton Area, 600 St. Johnsbury Road, Littleton, NH 03561.
