John Lambie Grady ....show
, 74, of Bradford, passed away on Aug. 29 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. He was born in St. Johnsbury, Vt., on Oct. 25, 1933, the son of John Lambie and Williamina (Stephen) Grady. John attended St. Johnsbury schools and graduated from St. Johnsbury Trade School. He was a member of 13 Ski Club and a past member of the Leanord Wood Lodge, No. 105, F.& A.M. On Nov. 30, 1958, he married Faith Gaffield in Derby Line, Vt. Together they raised twins, Heather and Bruce. His 24 years of military service included overseas tours in North Africa, Greenland, Ward Hunt Island in the Arctic Circle, the Aleutions, England, the Azores, Vietnam, the Phillipines, Thailand, and Johnston Island in the Pacific, as well as many stateside duty stations. Upon retirement in 1977, he was employed by the Barnet School District and also by Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury. He retired in October 2007, after 29 years. Among his many interests were skiing and boating, and spending time with his family and friends. John is survived by Faith, who was his loving wife of 49 years, as well as his two children, Heather Paul of Owosso, Mich., and her husband Douglas; and Bruce Grady of Bradford. He also leaves his grandchildren Kendall Wolff of Frisco, Texas, and her husband Alan; and Nichole Paul of St. Charles, Mich. He will be dearly missed by his great grandson Timmy Evans. He will also be missed by his siblings, William Grady of So. Burlington, Vt., and his wife Madeline; Catherine Grady-Sicard of So. Burlington; Jane Grady of Barre, Vt.; and David Grady of Vernon, Vt.; and his many nieces, nephews, and cousins. His passing is a great loss for his closest friends Harry and Barbara Byrne, and his godson Christopher. John's dry sense of humor and love of telling grand stories will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. Visiting hours will be held at the Hale Funeral Home in Bradford, on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday Sept. 3, 2 p.m., at Hale Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jane Wilson officiating; followed by a gathering at the Orford Congregational Church. A private internment will be held at a future date at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery family lot.

, 72, of St. Johnsbury, died on Aug. 28, 2008, at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center following a period of failing health. She was born in Haverhill, N.H., on Nov. 17, 1935, a daughter of George Oliver and Phyllis Willey. A lifelong Upper Valley resident, she had formerly resided in Newbury, East Corinth, and Groton, Vt. For 23 years, she worked at the former Wanda's Nursing Home in Bradford as a certified nursing assistant, and retired in 1991 from McFarland House in Barre, Vt. In her quiet time, Marjorie enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing Scrabble and cards. She was predeceased by her husband Theodore I. Salomaa on Sept. 6, 1997. Survivors include three daughters Kathy West of North Haverhill, Debra Carbee of Ryegate, and Rhonda LaLonde of North Haverhill; three sons Stuart Hood of New York State, Jeffery Hood of Manchester, N.H., and Terrance of Vershire, Vt.; 14 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; two sisters Betty Madden of Florida, and Nancy Bean of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; also two brothers John S. Oliver of Concord, Vt., and George W. Oliver, II of Newbury, Vt.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be on Saturday, Sept. 6, at 1 p.m., at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH, with Pastor Candace Ricker officiating. , 84, of Brook Road, West Burke, died at his home on Monday morning, Sept. 1, 2008. Mr. Boudle was born on Sept. 25, 1923, in Stratford, N.H., the son of Irving and Lilla (Masters) Boudle. He was raised in Lancaster, N.H., and served with the US Army during WWII. Henry worked all his life as an auto body repairman and during that time he crisscrossed the United States five times working and living in many states. He retired in 1980 and returned to Lancaster for a few years before moving to West Burke where he has resided for the past 21 years. He always enjoyed traveling and collecting various types of rock. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Family members include three daughters Gloria Briggs and her husband Carl of Stratford, Doloris Ferrin of Palmdale, Calif., Barbara Day of West Burke; two sisters, Gladys Ingerson and her husband Carroll of Jefferson, N.H., Beverly Wright and husband Stanley of North Stratford; and 11 grandchildren. A visiting hour will be held Sunday afternoon Sept. 7, from 1 to 2 p.m., at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, immediately after the visiting hour. Burial with military honors will follow in Summer Street Cemetery.

, 84, of Colonial Village, died on Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, N.H. She was born on April 20, 1924, in Dover, N.H.; the daughter of Eric and Flora (Akins) Gulbrandsen. Elinor graduated from Dover High School in 1942 and Wentworth-Douglass Nursing School in 1945, Dover, N.H. Elinor was a Registered Nurse who had worked at Littleton Hospital in Littleton, N.H., for many years and was a long time resident of Franconia and Easton, N.H. She most recently worked at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover. Over the years she was active in the Quota Club and at St. John's United Methodist Church. She is survived by her son, Joel Murray of El Paso, Texas; her daughter Paula Murray of Pittsfield, Mass.; her two grandchildren, Randall Gawel of Novi, Mich., and Jessica Gawel of South Boston, Mass.; two great-grandchildren, Sophia and Samuel Gawel of Novi, Mich.; and several cousins. Carroll D. "Bub" Noyes ....show
, of South Wheelock, died Monday morning, Sept. 1, 2008, at his home with his family by his side at the age of 57. He was born March 8, 1951, in Lyndon Center, the son of Arland and Isabelle (Surridge) Noyes. In 1970 he graduated from Lyndon Institute. One of Bub's favorite hobbies was trading and shooting guns. For years he and his mother operated Belle's Gun Shop in Lyndon. Following her death in 2004 Bub continued serving their clients. Dairy farming was also near and dear to his heart. He operated his dairy farm for several years. He also worked as a rural main carrier for eight years delivering out of the Lyndonville Post Office. An avid hunter, Bub enjoyed fishing, helping friends at horse and pony pulling events, story telling, playing his guitar, singing, karaoke, and dancing. He was a happy and kind person who was always willing to help others. Spending time with his family, friends, and especially his grandchildren, brought him much joy. Survivors include his father, Arland Noyes of Lyndon; his loving companion of many years, Sharon Sinclair of South Wheelock; three step-children, Cassie Sweeney and husband Jeff of Mohawk, N.Y., Valerie Rutledge and husband Peter of Lyndonville, and Heather Sinclair of Ilion, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Nicole, Kyle, Kevin, Ben, and Sam; his sister, Linda McDonald and husband Jim of East Burke, and their children, Casey Douglas and husband Matt of Burlington, and Ryan McDonald of Burlington; his grandmother, Lida Surridge of Kirby; Sharon's mother, Lorraine Gammell of St. Johnsbury; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; his loving canine companion, Porky; and many special friends. Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 4, at 11 a.m., at Lyndon Center Cemetery, with Mr. John Sleeper officiating. There will be no visiting hours. , 78, Colchester, passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife and family by his side on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008. He was born in Burlington, on April 16, 1930, son of the late Stephen and Anna (Merchant) Shanks. He is survived by his wife Catherine (Sheehan) Shanks of Colchester; his two sons Bruce Shanks and Tracie of Littleton, N.H., and Edward Shanks and Debbie of Derby; his daughter Anne Jacobs of North Attleboro, Mass; many relatives and friends; and six grandchildren. There will be no public visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Church - Colchester with the Rev. Roger L. Miriam "Eleanor" Daine ....show
of Littleton, N.H., beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, left her earthly body on Aug. 23, after a lengthily illness, and ascended to heaven to have eternal life with Christ Jesus. She was born at home in Westwood, Mass., on June 15, 1930, the daughter of Herbert Sturgis, Sr. and Rachael (Montgomery) Sturgis; one of nine children. Her family moved to Holliston, Mass., when she was five years old, where she attended school. She moved to Littleton, N.H., in July 1947, when she married Arnold Archie Daine. They made their home on the Monroe Road in West Littleton, N.H., where they raised six children. Arnold preceded her in February 1995. Eleanor loved to garden, crochet, knit, sew and keep her home. She leaves behind her children, David and Debbie Daine, Evelyn Daine, Judith and Bud Foster, Nancy and Jeff Champagne, Timothy Daine all of Littleton, and Patricia and Hubey Smith of Whitefield; also numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at 2 p.m., at the Pillsbury Funeral Home, located at 101 Union Street in Littleton, NH with Rev. Steve Palmer officiating. , of Ryegate, passed away Wednesday morning, Sept. 3, 2008, at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, N.H., at the age of 70. She was born on March 22, 1938, in Hammond, Ind., the daughter of Chester and Irene (Neubauer) Hunneshagen. Joanne and her dear friends Jean Coble and Cindy Hardy moved to Vermont in January 2002 and fulfilled their dream of building a log cabin in Vermont. They became her caregivers throughout Joanne's protracted illness and remained with her right up until her final hours. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church. Joanne worked in Taunton, Mass., for the Massachusetts Department of Mental Retardation from 1973 until her retirement in 1996 as director of clinical social work. She had previously worked with Family Services of America in Providence, Rhode Island. Joanne loved arts and crafts, from painting in oils to wood carving and was an active member in the New England Wood Carvers Association. She was a significant contributor of the ministries of her brother's church, Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Depew, N.Y. She is survived by two brothers, Rev. Dean Hunneshagen and wife Brenda of Orchard Park, N.Y., and Roy Hunneshagen of the Lancaster, N.Y.; nieces and nephews Julie Smith of Orchard Park, N.Y., Heather Mrugala and husband Tim of Buffalo, N.Y., Matthew Hunneshagen and wife Amy of West Seneca, N.Y., Stephen Hunneshagen of Buffalo, N.Y.; three step-brothers, Mark Hunneshagen and wife Cindy of Greensburg, Pa., David Hunneshagen and wife Julie of Charleston, W.Va., and John Hunneshagen of St. Albans, W.Va. Additional members of the "family" include Manivone and husband Somphiane of Buffalo, N.Y., Phouthakone and wife Beverly of Covington, Ky., and Somsamay of Atlanta, Ga. These siblings fled the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War and grew up with Joanne's brother and sister-in-law. Funeral services will be held in St. Johnsbury, this Saturday, Sept. 6, at 10 a.m., at the Grace United Methodist Church. Rev. John Marshall will officiate assisted by her brother, Rev. Dean Hunneshagen. , 77, Guildhall, died peacefully, Aug. 30, 2008 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., after a lengthy illness. Born Oct. 16, a son of Vernard and Edith (Goddard) Irving, he was a resident of Groveton, N.H., until moving to Guildhall in Oct. 1988. Harry was a graduate of Groveton High School, class of 1949. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He worked for James River Corporation until he retired in 1983. Harry was a member of the American Legion, post #17 and the VFW, post #6808. He was a member of the Groveton United Methodist Church. His hobbies included building and flying remote controlled airplanes; hunting, fishing and boating on Maidstone Lake; and he loved animals. Harry is survived by his wife of 38 years Coreen (Wells) Irving of Guildhall; son Michael Irving and wife Carrie of Groveton; daughter Alida Frizzell and husband Bill of Angola, Ind.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters Teter Swift, of Groveton, and Nene Gonyer and husband John of Maidstone. He was predeceased by his parents; daughter Terry Call; and one brother Rodney "Joe" Irving. At Harry's request there will be no calling hours. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, in the Northumberland Cemetery with Pastor Aaron Cox of the Groveton United Methodist church officiating. , 46, of Highland Street, Whitefield, N.H., died Sept. 3, 2008, at Littleton Regional Hospital in Littleton, N.H. Carol was born in Sharon, Conn., on Aug. 11, 1962, to David and Barbara Berry. She attended White Mountain Regional High School. She married Dennis Rexford, of Dalton, N.H., and they had one child, Michelle, and two grandkids, Christopher Rexford and Savannah Rexford. Carol loved to spend her time with her grand babies. There wasn't a time that she wasn't with her family and friends. She was a very kind and loving individual that could get along with everyone. She loved her job at Jiffy Mart, in Whitefield. She made a lot of new friends there. Some of her favorite activities included going to the beach, crocheting and scrapbooking. She was also a member of the Dalton Congregational Church in Dalton, N.H., and a member of the VFW Post 3041 of Lancaster, N.H. Survivors include Howard and Julie Berry; Altho and Sandy Berry of Lyndonville; Shiela Berry, of Carrollton, Ga.; Beverly Berry of Littleton; Allen Berry of Carrollton; Raymond Berry and Judy Marier, of Littleton; Anna McLaughlin; Doris and Gary Mitton, of Dalton; Ronald Berry of Littleton; and Barbara and Rick Barrett of Littleton; and many nieces and nephews. , age 87, of Littleton, N.H., passed away on Monday, Sept. 1, 2008, at the Lafayette Center in Franconia, N.H. Stella was born on Sept. 2, 1920, in West Broughton, Canada, the daughter of William and Annie (Maguire) Cryans. She was raised on a farm with her large family of five brothers, three sisters, and her parents. She attended school in her home town and as a young adult she moved to the states and lived with her sister, Mary Jane "Jennie" Cryans in Littleton. She also lived in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for a number of years. While in Littleton, she worked in Libby's Clothing Store, where she was well-known. Surviving family members include one brother, Andrew Cryans of Littleton; two sisters, Ethel Boucard and Berniece Kozyra of Wethersfield, Conn.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers, Francis, Elmer, Lawrence, and Edward; as well as three sisters, Mary Jane "Jennie," Loretta, and Thelma. A calling hour will be held on Sunday, Sept. 7, from 1 to 2 p.m., at the Pillsbury Funeral Home located at 101 Union Street in Littleton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, Sept. 8, at 11:30 a.m. in the St. Rose of Lima Church with Rev. Fr. Andrew Cryans as Celebrant.

, 57, of Randolph, died on Tuesday morning, Sept. 2, 2008, at his home, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born June 7, 1951, in St. Johnsbury, the son of Archie and Iona (Blair) Noyes. He was raised in St. Johnsbury and had worked in construction, then in maintenance at Northeastern Regional Medical Center. He had then worked in bridge construction for Blow & Cote Construction of Morrisville. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, coin collecting, NASCAR racing, and going to tag sales and flea markets. Survivors include his life companion, Patricia Patterson of Randolph; mother Iona Noyes of Barre; son Scott Noyes of Randolph; brothers Norman Noyes of St. Johnsbury, Alfred Noyes of Roxbury, and Nelson Noyes of Braintree; sisters Mildred Ingram, of Plainfield, N.H., Cleona Hill of Randolph, and Margaret Brown of Roxbury; and two grandchildren.

, of Lyndonville and formerly of Burke Hollow, died peacefully with her family by her side, Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury, at the age of 85. She was born Nov. 10, 1922, in Fairfax, the daughter of Rupert and Rilla (Cross) Deth. On Nov. 4, 1945 she married Raymond Sanderson. Mrs. Sanderson was a former member of the West Burke Methodist Church. She enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, vegetable gardening and canning her produce. She loved her home, her family, and her friends. Survivors include her daughter, Gail Carpenter and husband Tim of Lyndonville; two grandsons, Chris Carpenter of South Burlington, and Brandon Carpenter of St. Johnsbury; a sister, Marge Deth of East Burke; a brother, Reginald Deth and wife Gloria of East Burke; two sisters in-law, Elaine Deth of East Haven, and Patricia Deth of Morrisville; a brother in-law, Ashton Greenwood of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Raymond Sanderson in 1995; two sisters, Evelyn Greenwood, and Carolyn McFarland; and three brothers, Kenneth, Frank, and Wallace Deth. Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 20, at 11 a.m., at Woodmont Cemetery in East Burke with the Rev. Barbara Dwyer officiating. , 63, formerly of Lyndonville, died peacefully surrounded by family and friends Friday morning, Sept. 5, 2008, in East Mesa, Ariz. She was born Jan. 12, 1945, in St. Johnsbury, the daughter of Robert and Juliette (Lemieux) Hill. Roberta was married to Charles Simmons, who predeceased her in 1980. On April 15, 1983, she married Thomas Greatorex who predeceased her in 1996. For 23 years she worked as a secretary at Lyndon State Collage. She was a member of the Lyndonville Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary for 16 years. Cooking, sewing, quilting, craft making, and painting pictures brought her much pleasure. For the last four years she lived in Maine. Survivors include her daughter, Michelle "Shelly" Melchi and her husband David of Scottsbluff, Neb., (50330 Panorama Drive, 69361); three grandsons, Brandon Bressett, Carson, and Chris Melchi; one great-grandson, Kameron Bressett; three sisters, Vicki Jenkins of Lyndonville, Aleta Jenkins and husband Scott Sherry of Warren, Maine, and Marla Silbernagel and husband Chris of Warwick, N.Y.; a step brother, Jimmy Hill and wife Judy of Jericho; and several nieces and nephews.
