, 84, of St. Johnsbury, passed away Monday, June 29, 2009, at her home at The Canterbury Inn. She was born Aug. 19, 1924, in Lyndonville, the daughter of Burton D. and Arlene (Blake) Currier. She attended graded schools in Lyndonville and St. Johnsbury and graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1942. On Feb. 18, 1943, she married Frank Lacroix who predeceased her in 1990. Her oldest child Paul Lacroix was killed in Vietnam in 1970. She is survived by her children: Pamela Passut and husband Blaine of St. Johnsbury, Charles Lacroix of Rutland, David Lacroix of Burlington, Kim Gilding and husband Bill of St. Johnsbury; her grandchildren: Tracey Billings, Jeremy Passut and wife Tamara, Lisa Pearson, Michelle Richling and husband John, Becky Gilding and Javier Castillo, Betsy Legendre and husband Ted; great-grandchildren: Matthew, Katie and Jacob; Lydia; Jack; Emma and Ava; and Julia; her sister Joyce Butcher and husband Bob of Rhode Island. Paul's wife, now Roberta Tanner of Lyndonville, always remained close. She is also survived by a sister-in-law Rita Bean and husband Edsel; brother-in-law Richard Lacroix and wife Marjorie; sister-in-law Marie Sham; her very special friend Ann Martin; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was also predeceased by a brother Douglas Currier; and brother-in-laws Leo, Omer, and Doria Lacroix. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church. Cremation will follow the Mass. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at the St. Johnsbury Center Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours. of Waterford died peacefully at home Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at the age of 84. She was born in St. Johnsbury on Feb. 2, 1925, the daughter of William and May (Bean) Paro. She and Stanley had been married 62 years. She is survived by her husband Stanley of Waterford; son Michael and his wife Lynn of Waterford; two grandchildren, Michelle and Matthew, for whom she and Stanley never missed an event; one sister Millie Daniell of St. Johnsbury; one sister-in-law Joan Paro of St. Johnsbury; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters: Irene Carpenter and Mary Carpenter, a brother Raymond Paro, and three brothers-in-law: Cecil Carpenter, Calvin Carpenter, and Fred Daniell. Funeral services will be held at the Sayles Funeral Home Friday, July 3, at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. The Rev. Robert H. Sargent will officiate. , age 51, a East Haven resident, passed away, Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at his home. Born Dec. 16, 1957, in St. Johnsbury. He is the son of Franklin and Elizabeth (Newton-Hudson) Higgins. He graduated from Lyndon Institute Class of 1975. He married Mildred E. Williams on June 30, 1979. He was a member of the East Haven Fire Department serving as chief and assistant chief for many years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting building models, trains, collecting gargoyles, going to camp, firefighting, hanging with his hunting buddies. Dennis is survived by his wife, Mildred, two children, Melissa Ann Higgins and companion Chad Tyler, Jonathan A. Higgins and companion Ashley L. Gallardo, all of East Haven; his little buddies, Axel James Theroux and Russell Norway, Cameron Tyler, and his hunting buddies; mother-in-law Ruth Williams of Morgan; sister Penny Cleverley, St. Johnsbury; one brother; several nieces and nephews; his favorite "hookers," Wayne and Angela. Lyman S. Dunn Sr. ....show
, of Victory and formerly of Lyndonville, died Tuesday evening June 30, 2009, at St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center, with his family by his side, at the age of 82. He was born July 20, 1926, in Victory, the last surviving child of Orien and Dorothea (Bickford) Dunn. Lyman served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He then worked for the St. Johnsbury and Lamoille County Railroad, and later for the Canadian Pacific Railroad, as an engineer, retiring in 1988 following 42 years of service. He was a member of the Yankee Waters CB Club; the Yankee Waters Travelers Club; the I.O.O.F. (Odd Fellows Lodge); the Lyndonville United Methodist Church; and Board member and hard worker for Holiday In The Hills in Victory and Granby for many years. He also did Pump Log boring at the Tunbridge Fair for many years. Maple sugaring, woodworking, hunting, fishing, gardening, and taking care of his yard and apple orchard brought him much pleasure. A beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Lyman always enjoyed family activities. He and his wife Annabelle (Ewens) Dunn had just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past June 19. Survivors include his wife and best friend, Annabelle Dunn of Victory; three sons, Lysle Dunn of St. Petersburg, Fla., Lyman Dunn Jr. of Lyndonville, and Carl Dunn and wife Shari of Littleton, N.H.; two daughters, Carol Allen and companion Jim Sanborn of Victory, and Eileen Beliveau of Lyndon; 10 grandchildren, Robert, Jonathon, Anthony, Jamie, Elijah, Rebecca, Vinny, Daniel, Neal, and Stephen "George"; nine great-grandchildren; a sister in-law, Nancy McGowan of Concord, N.H.; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends; and a special friend who was like a daughter to Lyman, Lori Smith of Lyndonville. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Carl Dunn; and two sisters, Marian Gallagher and Ethel Dunn. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 6, at 1 p.m. at the Guibord Funeral Home with the Rev. Robie Walker officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Lyndon Center Cemetery. , 87, of Lancaster, N.H., died Tuesday afternoon, June 30, 2009, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon. Mrs. Kimball was born in New York, N.Y., on May 2, 1922, the daughter of Henry W. Lyding, M.D., and Julia (Brandsema) Lyding. Eleanor grew up in New York City in a family of four, with her brother Charles, her mother Julia who was a nurse and her father Henry, who was an eye, ear and throat surgeon at the New York Ophthalmic Hospital. She attended Adelphi College and graduated from Syracuse University in 1946. During World War II she and her husband Richard traveled to many cities while he was in the Coast Guard, and in the years after when he was employed in several cities. Her husband was an attorney in Lancaster for many years, and she served as his assistant in their law office. She and her husband were very interested in animals and supported their causes. She was a member of the Lancaster Congregational United Church of Christ. Family members include her husband of 67 years Richard C. Kimball of Lancaster, her daughters, Susan E. Rice and her husband Robert E. Rice Jr. of Rowley, Mass., and Melanie A. Watson and her husband Steven J. Watson of Burlington, Vt., and her grandchildren, Julia C. Watson and Benjamin C. Watson. Her brother Charles W. Lyding predeceased her. A funeral service will be held on Monday morning, July 6, at 11 a.m., at the Lancaster Congregational United Church of Christ. Reverend Virginia Alvarez, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Wheeler Hill Cemetery in North Littleton. Following the burial a collation will be held in the Library at the Mountain View Grand Hotel in Whitefield. , 56, of North Troy, Vt., died suddenly Sunday as a result of the illness he had been bravely battling this past year. He was born March 3, 1953, in Concord, Vt., and grew up in St. Johnsbury, Vt., attending school at St. Gabriel's and St. Johnsbury Jr. High. Over the years, he worked for several construction companies and in various Newport area restaurants and in his last years he earned his CDL and enjoyed working for Lafayette Construction in summers and working at Jay Peak Resort during the winters. When not at work, he enjoyed being outdoors or watching NASCAR. Ron is survived by his mother Ruth Legendre of St. Johnsbury, a daughter Ginny Paye of Newark, his sisters Ina Francis (William) of Lowell, Mass., Lori Register (Dutcher) of St. Augustine, Fla., Anita Guild (Edward) of Essex Junction, Lisa Merrill (Raymond) of Ludlow, Vt., and Sarah Baker (John) of Barre, Vt. He is also survived by step-sisters Marie Grant (Russell) of Ocala, Fla., and Shirley Parker (Leslie) of Lyndonville. He had three granddaughters, Samantha, Skye and Gabriella, and had many nieces, nephews and grandnieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Jean Legendre in 1978, and by many of his aunts and uncles. At Ron's request there will be no services, but please take a moment to remember him in your own way. Nicole Lynn Silsby ....show
, 15, of Lunenburg, passed away unexpectedly on Friday evening, July 3, 2009, in Randolph, N.H. Miss Silsby was born on April 25, 1994, in Dahlonega, Ga., the daughter of Jason and Diane (Dunn) Silsby. Nicole was an "Army Brat" she traveled and lived in many places while her father was in the military. She attended Carthage High School in New York, where she finished the 9th grade with high honors. She enjoyed music, singing and cooking; she also enjoyed sports including soccer, swimming and basketball. She was a member of the Girl Scouts of America. Family members include her parents Jason and Diane and her brother Nathan Silsby, paternal grandparents George and Linda Silsby all of Lunenburg, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Her maternal grandparents Reynold Dunn and Leona Dunn predeceased her. There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
Rachel Ruth (Grimes) Colbeth ....show
left us Sunday, July 5, 2009. She was born Aug. 22, 1941, in the Brownsville section of Stowe, the daughter of Leo Grimes and Mildred (Reynolds) Grimes. She was the youngest of 11 children. Rachel married Roger Colbeth 53 years ago. They have four children. Sons Jerry and wife Carol, Steve and partner Belinda Marsh, Paul and wife Susie, and daughter Rita Earle. She is survived by her loving husband, children, 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Her brother Merton Grimes, sister Erna Bartlett and husband Gerald, brother Kenneth Grimes and his wife Priscilla, and sister-in-law Elenore Grimes also survive her. Her brothers Arlan Grimes, Bernard Grimes, Richard Grimes and Raymond Grimes predeceased her. Also sisters Etta Grimes, Lolita Putvain and Phyllis Putvain. Rachel was also predeceased by her son-in-law Michael Earle. Rachel was a nurse's aid for over 20 years at the Greensboro Nursing Home. She was always there. She will always be loved, missed and always in our hearts. Visiting hours will be 4-7 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2009, at Des Groseilliers Funeral Home on Church Street in Hardwick. The funeral will be Sunday, July 12, 2009, at the Greensboro Bend Methodist Church at 2 p.m.
John J. Maguire ....show
, 94, passed away on July 6, 2009, with his family by his side, after a courageous year long battle with cancer. He was born Jan. 22, 1915, in Lynn, Mass., to Thomas and Margaret (Gilbride) Maguire. His last year was spent as a loved member of the assisted living Riverglen House in Littleton, N.H. In 1933, John began his 46 year career at the General Electric, Riverworks division. In 1943, he married Rose Teague, a nurse from Fairfax, Vt. John was a lifelong member and supporter of Sacred Heart Parish, Lynn and most recently St. Eugene's Church in Wells River, Vt. He enjoyed the Boston Bruins and the Boston Red Sox which brought him great joy. He will be sadly missed. John was predeceased by his wife, Rose, in 2000 after 57 years of marriage. He then lived with his daughter Rosemary and son-in-law Francis in Ryegate, Vt., for seven years where he liked working outside, cutting wood and riding his tractor. He went to many of his great-grandchildren's sporting events and school activities. John was also predeceased by his parents Thomas and Margaret Maguire, three brothers Patrick, Thomas and Edward and one sister Margaret Veltre. He is survived by his daughter Rosemary and son-in-law Francis Collins of Ryegate; a grandson Christopher of Anacortez, Wash.; a granddaughter Kelly Urie and husband Dale, along with two great-grandchildren Lauren and Collin of St. Johnsbury, Vt. He is also survived by a very special cousin Mary Kate Kramer of Peabody, Mass.; a brother and sister-in-law Reggie and Lucy Teague of Groton, Conn.; and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church in Lynn, Mass., on Thursday at 10 a.m., followed by burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Good Shepherd Catholic School, 121 Maple Street, St. Johnsbury, VT 05819 or one's favorite charity.
Milton (Mike) Walter Corrow ....show
, passed away Friday, July 3, 2009, at his home in South Pomfret. He was 79 years old. Mr. Corrow was born in his grandfather's home in Willoughby, on June 11, 1930, of Clarence and Ethel (Friend) Corrow. He was the oldest of five children. Mr. Corrow graduated high school from Barton Academy, and later attended Lyndon State College with a scholarship. He joined the US Air Force in 1951, and later married Mary Therese Claremont in 1954. After leaving the Air Force they moved to Washington, DC, where he worked for many years in a drug store. In 1965 they moved to East Arlington, where they lived for many years. They were divorced several years later. He worked at Johnson Controls Inc. in Bennington, Vt. for several years as a shift supervisor until he retired in 1992. Mr. Corrow was predeceased by his ex-wife in 2001, and by his daughter Maureen in 1979. He was also predeceased by his brothers Francis and Maurice. He is survived by his sisters Barbara Staves and Dorothy Tourville of Tupper Lake, N.Y. He is also survived by his oldest son Micky, of Hartland, and his wife Doreen, Matthew of Barto, Pa., and his wife Carol, Martin of Wells, and his wife Valerie, Terry of Rutland, and Tammy of Latham, N.Y. He also had several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and two very special great-grandchildren. A brief service is planned for 2 p.m., Saturday, July 25, at the North Pomfret Congregational Church, with a reception to be held immediately afterwards at the Abbott Memorial Library in South Pomfret. In lieu of flowers his family requests donations be made to the Abbott Memorial Library, P.O. Box 95, South Pomfret, VT 05067.
