....show , age 68, passed away on Wednesday March 29, 2017 at the Elliot Hospital in Manchester, NH with her loving family by her side.
She was born March 22, 1949 in St. Albans, VT, the daughter of the late Milton Mit & Laura (Towne) Parsons.
Martha was a 1967 graduate of Richford High School. She continued her education at the University of Vermont School of Nursing, graduating in 1971. While there, she was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. Her nursing career started at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton, MA. She then came back to Vermont to work for the Franklin County Home Health Agency, during this time she was part of the first class of Nurse Practitioners to graduate from UVM. She returned to this passion later in life, by recertifying in 2009, at the age of 60. In that same year she found true love when she reconnected with fellow Richford native Allen Haggerty. Martha was a devoted wife who cherished family and embraced her expanded family.
The greatest joy of Marthas life was being a Mother. Her children were her everything. While raising her family, she blessed everyone with her cooking through the family business. Marthas famous baked beans, apple pies and carrot cake are among the many dishes that will be greatly missed.
Throughout her life she was always a caregiver. She spent countless hours helping others. She was known for having an open door for anyone in need. It didnt matter if you were family, a friend or a friend of a friend; you were always welcome in her home. Her dinner table was ever expanding but always had room for one more.
Martha was a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church in Essex Jct., where she sang in the choir and belonged to the UMW. She also recently joined the Vermont 251 club and was excited to see all of Vermonts beauty. Martha loved being outside, working in her flowers, tending to her vegetable garden or relaxing by the babbling brook at their camp on the Stevens Mills Slide Road. Martha loved all types of music and was always ready to sing and dance. She loved getting her family together and having fun with good food, laughter and love. The size of her heart is evident by the lives that she touched.
She is survived by her husband Allen Haggerty. Her children and grandchildren; Michael Wetherbee and his fianc, Kara Andrek of Howell, MI, Katharine Katie Wetherbee and her husband Josh Houghton of Manchester, NH, Justin Haggerty and his wife Treah and their children, Jude & Jett, and Ryan Haggerty and his wife Maggie and their children, Jackson, Brooklyn & Dylan. Her siblings and their spouses, Chester & Kathleen Parsons of Richford, Susan Mazer and her partner Craig Helfrich of Westford, Daniel & Pamela Parsons of Richford and Nora Parsons and her husband Tim Foley of Bennington, many loved nieces and nephews who were all very important to her as well as cherished extended family. Martha was predeceased by her parents Mit and Laura Parsons, her step-father, Leland Stanley; and her adored nephews, Milton Mit Parsons and Trevor Parsons.
Visiting hours will be held Friday, April 7, 2017 from 4-7 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls
Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the Grace United Methodist Church, 130 Maple Street, Essex Jct. Interment will be held later this spring at the Hillside Cemetery in Richford.

Herbert Skip LaFrance
....show , age 68 years, a native of Highgate Springs and more recently of Fort Jackson, New York, died Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at The University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington.
Born in Highgate Springs on, May 14, 1948, he was the son of the late Herbert Sr., and Mary (Morris) LaFrance. He attended Highgate schools and faithfully served his country in the United States Navy during the Viet Nam Era. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 514 in Winthrop, New York.
Skip worked as a carpenter for most of his life and loved hunting, fishing gardening and collecting guns.
He leaves his son, Joel LaFrance and wife Sarah of Dover, New Hampshire; a good friend Beverly LaFrance of St. Albans; two brothers and their wives, John and Bonnie LaFrance of Highgate and Dana and Pamela LaFrance of Corinth, New York; two sisters, Dorothy LaFrance of California and Joan Bonyea of Roanoke, Virginia; three grandchildren, 4 step children and several nieces and nephews and his best friend, Earl McBride and family from Fort Jackson, New York.
Funeral Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
There will be no calling hours.
Richard P. Beaulieu
....show , age 75 years, died late Monday evening, March 27, 2017, at the St. Albans Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. A longtime resident of California and Tampa, Florida, he has been a resident of Swanton for the past five years.
Born in Burlington on, March 17, 1942, he was the son of the late Ernest and Martha (Charrin) Beaulieu. On August 19, 1961, he was married to the former June Resh who survives him.
Mr. Beaulieu faithfully served his country in the United States Navy for 26 years and was honorably discharged as a Chief Petty Officer. In California he belonged to both the Moose and Elks Lodge and in Vermont the American Legion, Green Mountain Post 1 in St. Albans. He was also a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary-Saint Louis Parish as well as the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed being with people, spending time with his wife in the nursing home and being with his dog Trooper .
In addition to his wife June, Mr. Beaulieu leaves two sons, David and MaryLou of Swanton and Dean and Jonalie of Fort Knox, KY; two brothers, Tim Reardan and Wendy of Sonoma, AZ and James Reardan of Los Angeles; seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Beaulieu was predeceased by his two sisters, Carol Beaulieu and Phyllis Beaulieu Dunning.
The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, April 29, 2017, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada St., Swanton. Father Luke P. Austin will be the celebrant and homilist. The Rite of Committal and Interment will be held at a later date at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center.

WEST ENOSBURG - George Wilfrid Parent
....show - It is with great sadness that we report the passing of our father George Wilfrid Parent, 96 of West Enosburg. George died on Friday, March 24, 2017 with family beside him at his home where he was able to live until his death a wish that was important to him.
He was born on March 13, 1921 at home on the East Sheldon Road. He was the second youngest of a family of nine born to Samuel and Arzelia (Brodeur) Parent. He attended school in a one-room schoolhouse in East Sheldon for eight years, then continued on in Saint Cesaire, Canada for two years.
George was married to the late Rita (Rainville) who predeceased him on January 4, 2013. They were married on May 29, 1948 and celebrated 64 years of marriage. Together they had fourteen children - seven daughters and seven sons whom they raised on the family farm. George lived on this farm until 1978 when he sold and moved to his smaller farm where he presently lived. Farming truly was a way of life for George as well as several of his siblings. He also enjoyed traveling and dancing in his earlier years.
He was a lifelong communicant of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Enosburg Falls where he served as Eucharistic Minister for 13 years as well as being a member of the Holy Name Society. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather. Anyone who knew George, certainly knew that he loved to play 500... most often playing a few times weekly until recently. He also played cribbage and greatly looked forward to planting tomatoes and potatoes in his small garden until last year.
George is survived by 12 children and their spouses: Robert S. and Diane Parent of Sheldon, Patricia and James Keefe of Bel Air, MD, David and Susan Parent of Gouverneur, NY, Alan Parent of Hyde Park, Denise and Gale Messier of St. Albans, Dianne and Leonard Parent of St. Albans, Gloria Parent of Glastonbury, CT, Norman and Pamela Parent of Burke, NY, Rene and Melissa Parent of Portland, OR, Marcel Parent and Betsey Larose of West Enosburg, Martha and Timothy Magnant of Franklin, Gisele and Christopher Stimpson of West Enosburg; 25 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, a sister in law and husband Aline and Claude Magnant; 2 brothers in law and wives, Andrew and Imogene Rainville and Roger and Denise Rainville, as well as 2 sisters in law; Lucille and Elizabeth Rainville, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves behind two of his Friday night 500 card-playing buddies Fr. Leonidas Laroche and Henry Magnan to who he always looked forward to seeing. In addition to his parents and his wife Rita, George was predeceased by a daughter, Doris Parent; a son, Anthony "Tony" Parent; a grandson, Matthew Parent; a son in law Sven Swanson; his 2 brothers and their wives; Leo and Biola Parent and Ulys and Helen Parent; his 6 sisters and 4 brothers in law; Jane and Lucien Demers, Simone and Come Lussier, Rose and Theobald Charron, Georgette and John Louis Rainville, and Sr. St. Maxime, SSM and Sr. Leda Parent, SSM who passed away December 16th at the age of 100. George outlived all his siblings and their spouses. He was also predeceased by 2 brothers in law; Richard and John Clement Rainville.
George was never one to complain or boast about anything but after losing his wife in 2013, he was always ready for the good Lord to take him. Well Dad, finally at last... the good Lord had taken you to a much more comfortable place - your absence will be deeply felt down here on earth as we will greatly miss our Sunday afternoon get-togethers in West Enosburg... a place which had become a family focal point for many years. We have been blessed!
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 29, 2017 from 4-7:00 PM at Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls, VT.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, March 30, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Missisquoi St., Enosburg Falls. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Enosburg.

Michael David Laughlin
....show , of St. Albans, VT; Born October 20, 1958 Son of Thomas Laughlin and Lois (Mercier) Wilson, passed away peacefully, in his home surrounded by loved ones Sunday April, 30 2017. Growing up in Swanton, VT, Michael attended St. Annes Academy and Missisquoi Valley Union, before being employed in many areas of work in several states across the country. He was a jack of all trades but will be remembered for his exceptional work as a skilled carpenter, being self-employed as Mikes Siding for many years.
Mike was a long time and active member of the American Legion Post #1, VFW Post #758, and the Moose Lodge #1090 all of St. Albans, and was sure to know almost every face any where he was! With many acquaintances, Mike had several important relationships and valuable friendships throughout his life, having been once married to Florence (Maggie) Laughlin who shared daughters Lacy Laughlin and Nichelle (Laughlin) Grennon and boys Luke Hulbert and Shane Hulbert.
Mike was loved by many, including his most recent companion Pamela Brown, long time best friend Steve Hilliker, longtime friend and one time right hand man Mark Malaney, longtime friend Brian Levick and so, so many more!
Mike leaves behind his Mother Lois Wilson, Sister Sally Brace and Brother Corey Wilson. His beloved favorite Niece Amber Sullivan and family. His girls and the boys, and the ones that called him Grampy Mike Waylan Choiniere, Lyric Sartwell and Andrew Longley.
He will be re-joining a pivotal part of his life, his Memere Alice Mercier, as well as father Thomas Laughlin and many friends from throughout the years. He will be remembered for his stubborn mindset, short temper, knowledge of just about everything, love of hot rods, good music, and his ability to tell a story, as well as his good natured sense of humor that stayed until the end. Easily loved, not easily forgotten.

Sandra DuBois Witham
....show , age 60 years, passed away Sunday evening, April 30, 2017, in the Northwestern Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Harford, CT on, February 6, 1957, the daughter of Clifford and Elinor (Carroll) DuBois. She attended schools in Hartford and on, September 3, 2000, was married to Larry Witham who survives her.
In earlier years Sandra worked in the tobacco fields of the Hartford area. After moving to Vermont she was employed by the St. Albans American Legion, Redstone Villa, Verdelle Village, Holiday House and more recently Peerless Clothing. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Green Mountain Post #1 in St. Albans and a volunteer for the Good News Garage. She enjoyed cross word puzzles, coloring, cribbage, Yahtzee and spending time with family and friends.
Besides her husband Larry of Highgate Falls, Sandra leaves her mother, Elinor DuBois; a son, Larry Witham and wife Kim of Malone, NY, a daughter Tonya Witham and her spouse Nate Robtoy of St. Albans; four grandchildren, Brianna, Nathalie, Sophia Robtoy and Carter Witham; one brother, Martin Carroll and his wife Karen of Farmington, CT; three sisters, Charlene DuBois of MO, Mary Sawyer and husband Hollis of Groveton, NH and Donna Marinelli and husband Roger of Canton, CT and really great friends Diana and John Baraby of St. Albans as well as many nieces and nephews
She was predeceased by her father, Clifford DuBois and one sister, Kathy Bouchard.
A Funeral Service will be held Friday, May 5, 2017, at 2 p.m. from The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. The Reverend Kerry T. Cameron will officiate. Interment will follow at the Witham family lot in St. Johns Episcopal Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 12 Noon until the hour of the funeral.

....show , age 74, passed away Friday morning, April 28, 2017 at Our Lady of the Meadows in Richford.
Betty was born September 13, 1942 in Sheldon the daughter of the late, Charles & Madeline (Lackey) Burns.
Betty was a resident of Enosburg Falls for the past 11 years and was a former longtime resident of St. Albans. She worked as a private duty care provider in St. Albans and then as an LNA & Cook at Redstone Villa for Many years. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, dancing and working on her flower gardens. She loved animals especially her cat & dog that provider her companionship when living in St. Albans.
She is survived by her children, Tony Billow and his wife Linda of Sheldon, and Scott Billow and his wife Theresa of Richford; her grandsons, Ridge Daniel Cook & Nathan Champaine; her Sisters and their husbands, Irene & Wilfred Bedore of Berlin, Theresa & Sherman Gilbar of Berkshire, Bonnie & Ronnie Winot of Berkshire, Joyce & Joseph Ouellette of Milton, and Brenda & Michael Jewett of Richford; her brothers, James Burns and his wife Dale, Robert Burns all of Enosburg Falls, and Bradley Burns and his partner Tracy Engel of Johnson; many nieces and nephews and their families. Besides her parents, Betty was predeceased by her brother, David Burns; and her sister, Rose Ainsworth.
Bettys family would like to thank the staff at Our Lady of the Meadows Community Care home in Richford and the staff at Franklin County Home Health Agency for the care provided to Betty during her illness.
In keeping with Bettys wishes, she will be cremated and there will be no public services. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in the Sheldon Village Cemetery

....show , age 92, passed away Tuesday morning, April 25, 2017 at the St. Albans Health & Rehab Facility.
She was born in Enosburgh the daughter of the late Carmey & Doris (Young) Derry.
Arlene was a resident of Enosburgh since 1988 and was a former resident of East Bakersfield for over 40 years. She attended the Enosburg Falls United Methodist Church. Arlene worked as a milk tester for DHIA in Enosburgh and Morrisville for 25 years retiring in 1980. Following her retirement, she made baked goods which she sold at the Enosburg Falls Farmers Market. She enjoyed camping, horseback riding and snowmobiling.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Alton Herron. Arlene & Alton were married on October 28, 1944. She is also survived by her children, Elaine Cole and Gerald Herron and his wife Nicole all of Enosburgh; her grandchildren, Kelly Godin and her husband Roger, Andrew Hale and his wife Denise, Audra Rondeau and her husband Chris, Travis Hale and his wife Becky; Jennifer Herron, and Tracy Loiselle and her husband Michael; her great grandchildren, Randy, Carmin & Christian Godin, Andrew Drew Hale, Christopher, Alex, & Alaura Rondeau, Christina & Trevor Hale, and Landon & Genevieve Loiselle; and her great great grandchildren, Hunter Hill Godin, Esther Rondeau, and Isabell & Allison Weld. Besides her parents, Arlene was predeceased by her brothers, Donald Derry and Lester Derry and his wife Doris; and her son-in-law, Ira Chip Cole.

ESSEX JCT. - John David Duso
....show , passed away Monday, April 24, 2017 at the VNA Respite House in Colchester.
John was born on September 30, 1937 in East Berkshire, VT the son of the late Walter & Marion (Leahy) Duso.
John graduated from Richford High School in 1955. He worked for Coca Cola, Liggett & Myers Tobacco Co, and retired from IBM in 1999. After retirement, he worked at Sears part-time for many years.
John loved all sports, especially NASCAR, golf, the New York Yankees and any team that would beat the Red Sox. For many years, he attended all UVM basketball and hockey games. He was able to travel around and attend many NASCAR races. For his 70th birthday he rode in a race car on the Charlotte, NC Speedway.
John was a past member of the Enosburg Falls Country Club and the Williston Golf Course. He was Past President and member for over 50 years of the Eagles Club, Aerie #793. John and his wife Perri also had a camp on Lake Carmi for 20 years.
Besides his wife, Perri (Parent), John leaves two daughters, Dorothy (Robert) Gilbar of Enosburg, and Sheila (Shannon) Cavanaugh of Colchester; four grandchildren, Kristin (Jesse) Elwood of Enosburg, Katelyn (Jamason) Weld of Berkshire, James Cavanaugh and friend Erika Lemieux of Colchester, and Holly Gilbar and fianc Josh Armstrong of Tallahassee, FL; six great grandchildren, Kolby, Tyler, Hayden & Jaelyn Elwood, Deacon & Kamryn Weld; One sister, Carol (Myrl) Jaquith of Port St. Joe, FL; and many nieces & nephews. John was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Robert Duso and wife Beverly; and sister, Sandra Duso.
Johns family would like to thank all of the Shep 4 nurses at the University of Vermont Medical Center for the extraordinary care they gave John during his many stays at the hospital.
A memorial service will be Friday, April 28, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls with Pastor Patrick Hoadley officiating. Interment will follow in the All Saints Cemetery in Richford.

SWANTON - Augusta Ann Brace
....show , age 61, passed away Sunday, April 23, 2017 at the Rutland Regional Medical Center after a long illness.
She was born in Troy, NY on December 5, 1955 to the late Leonard Minnafield and Jean Gentry.
Augusta worked for several years in the kitchen at Missisquoi Valley Union High School. She also previously worked at Ames and the VFW in Swanton. Her favorite hobbies included going camping, making ceramics, anything that involved horses and most importantly, spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Leo Brace of Swanton; children, Jean Darby and her significant other Eric Curtis of Rouses Point, NY, Wilamena Perretta and her husband Peter of St. Albans, David Gover of Swanton and Phillip Gover of St. Albans; her loving sisters, Jeannette Judkin of Plattsburgh, NY, Bertha Youngs of Troy, NY, Joanne Minnafield of Niverville, NY, and Alice Blanchard of Troy, NY; her brother, Ralph Minnifield of Syracuse, NY; step-siblings, Lorraine Gentry, Ludie Gentry, Keith Gentry and John William Gentry; 12 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and several nieces & nephews. Augusta also leaves behind her beloved Mom & Dad Sartwell , Jason & Claireta Sartwell of Highgate and her siblings-in-law, Alan & Maiti Brace of St. Albans, Terry & Cathy Brace of Highgate, Jackie & David Dragon of Franklin and Jason & Jill Sartwell of Long Island, NY. FRANKLIN - Earl Leonard Stanley
....show , age 75, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2017 at The Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lyndonville.
Earl was born in St. Albans on September 5, 1941 to the late Carroll & Evelyn (Weed) Stanley.
He graduated from Enosburg Falls High School in 1959 and then from the University of Vermont in 1964. While at UVM he became a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and Alpha Zeta Honorary Society.
In 1962, Earl married Susan McNall Stanley, and together they became the 6th generation to farm the Stanley Land known as Sunset View Farm. Earl loved working with his Jersey cows, producing maple syrup, clearing land and blasting to eliminate rocks that were in his way. Agriculture was his vocation, avocation and inspiration. Earl always had new ideas and a willingness to help any friend or neighbor.
During his farming years he was DHIA President, Vermont Woodlands Association Director, Yankee Farm Credit Director, VT Farm Bureau Member, Franklin Select Board Member, 4-H Leader, Franklin County Field Days Director, Member of Eastern AI Sire Committee, member of Enosburg Falls United Methodist Church and a member of the National Outstanding Farmers of America Fraternity.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Stanley; their children, Wayne Stanley and his partner Elizabeth Warner, Mark Stanley and his wife Michelle all of Franklin and Lois Thibault of Williamsville; his siblings, Paul Stanley and his wife Linda of Bakersfield, Winona Larose and her husband Richard of Morrisville and Laurel Stanley of Danville; in-laws, Ralph & Patricia McNall of Fairfax, Marge & Jay Gherardi of South Burlington and Merrill & Mamie Cleveland of Lyndonville; his grandchildren, Cassandra & Nick Elwood of Highgate, Alyson Stanley and her partner, Ryan Manewich of Morrisville, Kane Stanley of Enosburg Falls, Sean, Will and Chandra Stanley all of Franklin and Emily, Caleb, Sam and Hope Thibault all of Williamsville; 2 beloved grandsons, Kayden Poquette and Brett Rolls and many nieces & nephews. Kenneth Earl Reynolds
....show , age 78 years, died Wednesday afternoon, April 19, 2017, at his Spring Street residence with his loving daughter and caregiver, Kellie at his side.
Born in Sheldon on, June 11, 1938, he was the son of the late John Stephen and Ada (Dennis) Reynolds. He attended Sheldon schools and was later married to Susan Teri Reynolds who predeceased him on January 21, 2005.
Ken faithfully served his country in the United States Army, 11th Armored Calvary Regiment known as the Black Horse, during the Viet Nam War and he received two Purple Hearts. He was a member of the American Legion, Green Mountain Post #1 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Robert Glidden Post # 758 both in Saint Albans.
He was employed for several years as a machinist for the Velan Valve Corporation in Williston was a ten year Volunteer for Missisquoi Valley Rescue.
Ken leaves two sons, Hillary and his wife Michelle of Saint Albans and Everett of Burlington; a daughter, Kellie McMahon and husband Troy of Wisconsin; brothers, Howard and William: a sister, Mary Martell of Florida; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and wife Teri, Ken was predeceased by a sister Jeanie and brothers, John, Herbert, George, David, Roland and Ralph.
A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 2 p.m. from The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton. The Reverend Father J. Robert Spainhour will officiate. The Rite of Committal with military honors will follow at the Reynolds family lot in St. Marys Roman Catholic Cemetery.

Lillia was a lifelong farmer & caregiver. Over the last several years she has been the caregiver for her grandson and partner in crime , Parker. She enjoyed gardening, playing BINGO, raising animals, feeding & watching the birds and visiting with friends.
She is survived by her children, Danny Peters and his wife Debbie of Lyon Mountain, NY, Debra Wetherby and her husband Bruce of Berkshire, Patricia Davis and her husband Robert of Highgate, Roxanna Hall of Bristol, Audrey Christian and her husband Mark of Winchendon, MA, Penny Osicky of Berkshire, Kerry Hall and his Fiance Lesa Ryea of Berkshire, and Dulcey Clair and her husband Robert of Enosburg Falls; 22 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren; her brother, Floyd Ashton and his wife Jeannette of Enosburg Falls; her sister, Barbara Greenwood of Berkshire; her sister-in-law, Helen Ashton of St. Albans; many nieces, nephews and extended family close friends . She was born March 23, 1928 in Highgate to the late Kenneth & Blanche (Tatro) Lothian.
Audrey graduated from Highgate High School in 1946 and married Carroll Bashaw on October 15th of that same year. She worked at the Missisquoi Pulp Mill for 2 years before devoting all her time to raising her children and teaching piano lessons, she taught piano for 25 years. Audrey was a long-time member of the 45 Card Club along with St. John the Baptist Church in Enosburg Falls. In her younger years, Audreys favorite hobbies included playing golf and bocce, riding bicycle, swimming and watching the Orlando Magic.
She is survived by her children, Michael Bashaw of Orange City, FL, Keith Bashaw and his wife Laurie of Williston and Bonnie Bashaw of Lunenburg and her dear friend, Kevin Cole of Ft. Collins, CO; her grandchildren, Travis Bashaw and his wife Stacy, Damon Bashaw, Ashley Bashaw, Justin Bashaw and his wife Tiffany, Tucker Bashaw, Katelyn Bashaw and Ben Cole and her great grandchildren, Brayden, Addyson, Brielle, Liam, Evan, Tessa and Lance. Besides her parents, Audrey was predeceased by her husband Carroll Bashaw in 2004 and her granddaughter Andrea Cole Lawson in 2015.

....show , age 70, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington.
Dean was born in Richford on December 8, 1946 to Elizabeth (Prue) Howarth and the late Robert Howarth.
He graduated from Richford High School in 1965 and received an associate degree in Accounting/Business Administration from Champlain College in 1968. He then served in the U.S. Army earning medals including a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. After returning from Vietnam, Dean attended Castleton State College earning a B.S. in Accounting. For many years, he was the manager of the Richford Franklin Lamoille Bank. Dean had a passion for history. He spent many hours during his retirement researching and recording Richford history to ensure it would be preserved for the community. He also had a love for international travel.
He married Jacqueline Noyes in 1973 who predeceased him in 1997. He is survived by his children, James Howarth and his wife Danielle of Enosburg and Melanie Gross of Berkshire; grandchildren, William Howarth and Abby, Emma & Aubrey Fadden; mother, Elizabeth Howarth of Richford; sisters, Stacy Wells and her husband Randy of Enosburg Falls and Judy Holden of Soap Lake, WA and several nieces & nephews. Dean was also predeceased by his infant son, Dana Howarth and his father, Robert Howarth.
A graveside funeral service will be Sunday, May 21, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the Richford Center Cemetery, South Richford Rd., Richford.

Romeo was born in Montgomery Center on September 19, 1926 to the late Anthime & Florence (Pudvah) Lamore.
He served in the U.S. Navy Reserve from 1943-44 and worked for the Vermont Highway Department for 43 years; he retired in 1986. He married Theresa (Lumbra) Lamore on April 24, 1947. Romeo enjoyed occasional casino trips to Atlantic City, vacationing in Aruba and most importantly, spending time with his granddaughters.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Theresa Lamore; their children, Gale St. Cyr and Jeffrey Lamore and his wife Jo Ann (Kinney) all of Hyde Park; 2 granddaughters, Chelsea Lamore of Johnson and Brandi (Lamore) Dannat, her husband Devin and their children Liam & Raegen all of Eden; sister-in-law, Connie McFarland of Montgomery Center; brother-in-law, Walter Lumbra of Johnson; and several nieces & nephews. Besides his parents, Romeo was predeceased by his siblings, Lionel, Leo Paul, Aime & Gene Lamore, Lorenza Sargent, Estelle McCammon, Pauline Meadows and Lorraine Despres.

Bethel was born in Berkshire, Vermont on May 5th, 1929 to the late Percy and Marion (Perry) Stowe.
She married George L. Baranik on August 12th, 1955, who preceded her in death on June 16, 1962. Bethel was a stay at home mom and a landlord up to her death. Her favorite hobbies were reading mysteries, taking walks, enjoying the sun, watching her soaps, her camp at Fairfield Pond and spending time with her children.
Bethel is survived by her children: Lorraine & Robert Danyow of Sheldon, Mary Beth & Danny Larose of Franklin, Nancy West and her companion Norman Snider of Sheldon, Jeffery & Beverly Baranik of Sheldon, and Richard & Christine Baranik of St Albans. Her grandchildren, Ellie and Joshua Danyow, Kaitlin Larose and her companion Brent Paradee, Jacques & Chelsea Larose, Patrick Larose and his companion Julie Heffler, Staci West, Shellie West and her fiance Sarah Gazo, Megan West, Jeremy West and his companion McKenna Stone, Kendra and Brooke Baranik, Dylan and Cody Baranik. Her great grandchildren, Ethan Paradee, Areil Cooper and her companion Nathan Lillquist, Avery Choquette, Wyatt and Hayden Lieske, Kysen Sylvester, William Sladyk, Miah Hemingway, Emahlyn and Cullen West. SWANTON, VT - Jack O. Scheffler
....show , age 78, passed away Monday, May 8, 2017 surrounded by his loving family at his sons home in Montgomery.
Jack was born in Slatington, Pennsylvania on January 25, 1939 to the late Harry & Adelene (Rex) Scheffler.
Jack was a graduate of Pennsylvania State University. He worked as a draftsman for several years before started a lengthy career in retail, working for Dieters Snowmobiles, at both the Walnutport and East Stroudsburg locations.
His fondness for the hardware business started in the early 1980s when he began working at Pauls Hardware in Orefield, Pennsylvania. He worked there for twenty years before moving to Vermont in 2001. Jack began work at Ace Hardware in St. Albans, helping to set up the original store, continuing to the temporary store, and finally into new location where he was a familiar presence. He enjoyed meeting customers and was thankful to work with a great group of people. He was one to keep busy and was the in-house screen repair specialist until just last year.
Jack was a history buff studying the Civil War, acting as a reenactor when he lived in Washington DC. He also loved woodworking and creatively merged his love of history and woodworking making toys based on historical eras.
Jack loved a good road trip; taking bus trips with his friend George seeing plays, visiting tourist destinations, and enjoying good food. He was known for baking excellent pies and cakes, which he enjoyed to share.
Jack was involved with the Alton Park of Allentown Lions Club while in Pennsylvania, where he served as President in the 1990s.
He is survived by his two sons, Kevin Scheffler, his wife Karen of Montgomery, Vermont and Keith Scheffler, wife Robin of Andover, New Jersey; grandchildren Zachary, Luke and Kyle Scheffler; a twin sister, Jill, her husband Richard Schlosser of Schnecksville, Pennsylvania, and several nieces & nephews. Besides his parents, Jack was predeceased by his brothers Harry, Jr., Robert and Shirley.
Jacks family will have a private celebration of his life at a later time for friends and family.
Theron Harold Tinker Durkee

Born in Websterville, Vt on, July 4, 1932, he graduated from Spaulding High School and was later married to Mary Frances Williams who predeceased him.
Theron faithfully served his country in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged as a 2nd Class Petty Officer. He was a member of the American Legion, Green Mountain Post #1 in St. Albans.
He was a longtime employee of the former Union Carbide Corporation and will be remembered for his love of gardening.
He leaves three sons, Kevin of California, Keith of Burlington and Kenneth of Utah; step-children, Nancy Burns and Paul Tremblay of Swanton, Lawrence Sanborn and Pamela of Swanton, David Sanborn of Berkshire, John Sanborn and Christa of Swanton, Phyllis Sanborn of Swanton, Gerald Sanborn of Swanton and Michelle Sanborn also of Swanton; a brother, William and his wife Pat of Colchester and a sister, Maxine of Worcester, Mass as well as many nieces and nephews.

Richard Dickie Longway
....show , the son of Darlene Ruhl and the late Ernest Longway, passed away unexpectedly on May 7, 2017, at his County Road home. He was a well-known respected lifelong area dairy farmer. He was born in Burlington on December 31, 1950.
He attended Central Catholic parochial school and graduated from BFA-St. Albans. On, August 13, 1977, he married Julie Hogan who survives him. He faithfully served his country in the United States Marine Corps and received his Honorable Discharge on September 3, 1976.
Dickie was passionately involved in his community. He served several years on the Swanton Regional Planning Commission, Swanton Select Board and Board of Civil Authority. He was also a member of the Farmers Watershed Alliance and served as a delegate for Agri-Mark. He was a member of Holy Angels Roman Catholic Church, a third degree member of the St. Albans Knights of Columbus and Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge1566 in St. Albans.
Dickie was an avid hunter and looked forward to his annual trips to Witch Bay Ontario. He enjoyed his Sunday rides with his wife in his 1970 SS Chevrolet Chevelle. Dickie fulfilled his lifelong dream of building a successful dairy farm to pass down to his sons and future generations. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his grandchildren who were the apple of his eye.
In addition to his wife Julie, Dickie leaves his mother, Darlene Ruhl; two sons and their wives, Travis and Kirston Longway and their children, Mason and Kennedy and Adam and Chrissy Longway and their children, Camden and Addyson all of Swanton; his siblings, Valerie (David) French, Christine Demers, Edward (Tina) Longway and George Longway; brothers and sisters -in-law, Catherine (Rick) Colman, Linda (Albert) Gaboriault, Patricia Pelkey, Paula Hogan and Patrick Hogan. Along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a special uncle, Irwin Ruhl, and his extended farm family.
Besides his father, Ernest Longway, Dickie was predeceased by a brother Ernie; his in-laws Patrick and Pauline Hogan, two brothers-in-law, Timothy Hogan and James Pelkey.

Henry George Choiniere
....show , age 79 years, died peacefully early Thursday morning, May 4, 2017, in the Franklin County Rehab Center.
Born in Highgate on, May 20, 1937, he was the son of the late Phillippe and Bernadette (Galipeau) Choiniere. He attended schools in Highgate and on, November 18, 1961, was married to the former Raymonde Bombardier who survives him.
For all of his working life, Henry along with his family owned and operated a dairy farm on the Gore Road in Highgate Center. He was a devoted parishioner of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary-St. Louis Parish and a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Edmund of Canterbury Council #7669. He was also a member of the Transborder Antique Tractor Club. His other hobbies included riding his bicycle, hunting, playing cards and following the Boston Red Sox.
In addition to his wife Raymonde, Henry leaves his daughters, Jeanne (Christopher) Stearns of Johnson and Jeannine (Michael) Trippany of Highgate; his son, Guy (Beth) Choiniere of Highgate; grandchildren; Mathieu and Hannah Choiniere and Luke and Michelle Trippany. He is also survived by his brothers, Fabio (Lucille) Choiniere and Joseph (Kathy) Choiniere and his sisters, Louise Remillard and Nicole Letourneau; sisters-in-law, Frances Choiniere, Betty Choiniere, Claire Choiniere, Eleanor Bean and Jean Choiniere as well as nieces and nephews many near and far.
Besides his parents, Henry was predeceased by brothers, Robert and his wife Pauline Choiniere, Jake, Andrew, Daniel and Donald Choiniere; and a sister, Henriette Gagne and her husband, Rosaire.; additional brothers-in-law, Gerard Letourneau and James Remillard.

He was born in Blue Mountain Lake, NY on January 1, 1940 the son of the late, Frank & Madeline (Morrison) Kelley.
Michael attended Ausable Forks Catholic School, Warrensburg Central School, Indian Lake High School and graduated from Salmon Central High School in New York and Alamosa State College in Colorado. Following high school Michael entered in to the U.S. Marines receiving his honorable discharge in 1962. Michael loved to write poetry and follow baseball. He spent several years working in San Francisco, CA before moving to Burlington, VT.
Michael is survived by his sisters, Mary (Kelley) McCormick of Peru, NY and Joan Kelley Ryder of San Francisco, CA and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Michael was predeceased by a sister, Ann Bennett and her brother, Pat Kelley.

....show , age 67 years, a longtime resident of the Bakersfield community, died Tuesday, May 3, 2017 at the McClure Miller VNA Respite House in Colchester with loving family at her side.
Born in St. Albans on, January 5, 1950, she was the daughter of the late Asa Sr., and Eva (Therrien) Curtis. She graduated from Enosburg Falls High School.
An active member of the Bakersfield community Pat served over 20 years on the Bakersfield School Board as well as serving on the Planning Commission and the Brigham Academy School Alumni Association. In earlier years she was employed by Champlain Cable, Softlite and the Brandon Training School. She enjoyed writing poetry, gardening, fishing and especially spending as much time as she could with her grandchildren and family.
Patricia was known by all to have a huge heart. She devoted her life to caring for and raising as her own, her niece, Patricia (husband Justin Bosley), nephews, Therrien Fox and Filip Fox (wife Melanie).
In addition she leaves her grandchildren, who called her Me Me At , Jordin, Julia and Jacoby; brothers, Asa Jr. (Debbie) and David (Noreen); sisters, Addie Salls (Ken), Beverly Stevenson, Matilda Jackson (Billy), Barbara Giuliani (Joseph) and Eva Clough (David) as well as many nieces, nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents Pat was predeceased by her sister, Phyllis Smith and brothers, Stephen and Eugene Curtis.

....show , age 92, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.
She was born in Berkshire on January 28, 1925 to the late Willard & Eva (Lahue) Johnson.
Charlotte attended school in Berkshire and then graduated from Enosburg Falls High School. For many years she helped on the family farm; she was in charge of all the hay bailing. She came back to the farm when she was in her 70s to help out her son. In addition to helping on the farm, Charlotte raised her 4 children. After the new school was built in Berkshire she became the cook there for several years. Charlotte loved to travel around the country and she also loved spending winters at Hammondell Campground in Winter Haven, FL. Charlottes favorite hobbies included riding bike, going out to eat, watching hummingbirds and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Dorcas Society, Red Hat Society and the American Legion Post #42 Auxiliary.

Ruth worked several jobs before finding her true passion as a beautician. She owned and operated Ruths Beauty Salon in Enosburg Falls and Sheldon for many years. She married the late Norbert Larose on February 20, 1950. Together, they enjoyed dancing, gambling and golfing. Ruth also enjoyed playing cards, making ceramics and cooking.
She is survived by her children, Gary Larose and his wife Madeline of Mt. Pleasant, MI, Cynthia Dudley and her husband Arnold of Berkshire and Betsey Larose and Marcel Parent of Enosburgh; 7 grandchildren, Christopher Larose and his wife Darlene, Michelle Walters and her husband Michael Sr., Marc Larose, Tricia Rossi and her husband Marc, Justin Dudley and his wife Sarah, April Yates and Brooke Parent; 8 great grandchildren, Jacob, Isabelle, Michael Jr., Sam, Kiana, Kaylee, Alexander and Lilah; her siblings-in-law, Charles Larose and his wife Bernadette of Enosburg Falls and Ann Bushey and her husband Norman of St. Albans; several nieces & nephews and her beloved cat Baby Ruth . Besides her parents, Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Norbert Larose on December 27, 2016; a great grandson, Christian and her siblings, Vincent, Raymond, Harold, Deke & Howard Danyow and Carolyn Stevens.

SEBRING, FL - Larry Thomas Clark
....show , age 60, passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at Highland Regional Medical Center in Sebring, Florida.
Larry was born in Saint Albans, Vermont on February 27, 1957 to Betty (Lamonda) Clark and the late Bernard Clark.
Larry grew up in Sheldon and graduated from Bellows Free Academy in 1975. He started working at the age of 12 at the Sheldon Creek Cemetery, mowing grass and trimming around the graves. In high school, he milked cows for Carlton McEnany and Danny Lussier and when he turned 15 he went to work on his Aunt Shirley and Uncle Bubbys Farm in the summer. After high school he learned how to drive tractor trailer with Burhl Barnum and went to work for Bordeau Bros. He later continued his career driving truck for McDermotts Transportation, Saint Johnsbury Trucking, and Land Air Express. He also purchased and drove his own tractor trailer and was a sugar maker for a few years. After battling cancer in 1998, Larry worked part time for Rene Fournier Equipment, McDermotts, and Ralph Demers. Larry was married to Mary Anne (Carpenter) Clark in September of 1978 and later divorced in April of 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Marge Johnston of Rutland; his children, Adam Clark and his wife Jill of Saranac, NY, Berkley Clark and his wife Meagan of Fairfield, and Kaitlin Leatherbee and her husband Daniel of Orlando, FL; his grandchildren, Brandon Begiebing, Morgan Wimble, Sydney Clark, and Nora Leatherbee; his mother, Betty Clark of Saint Albans; his siblings, Jeffrey Clark and his wife Peggy of Berkshire, Janet Carpenter and her husband Jim of Fairfield, Joan Lumbra and her husband Craig of East Fairfield, and Carol Hodges and her husband Vince of Arvada, CO; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his father, Larry was predeceased by his brother, Danny Clark.
A memorial service will be Friday, June 9, 2017 at 3:00 PM at Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls. Interment will follow in St. Anthonys Catholic Cemetery in Sheldon Springs.
Visitation will be held on Friday at Spears Funeral Home from 1:00 PM until the hour of the service.

Born in Lancaster, PA on, May 8, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Gerald and Anna (Bauer) Resh. June has been a resident of Swanton, VT since 2010 and formerly lived may years in the Santa Maria, CA and Tampa, FL areas. She had been a pre-school teacher for most of her working life and while living in California taught at the Grace Lutheran Church pre-school program.
On August 19, 1961, she was married to Richard Beaulieu who recently predeceased her on, March 27, 2017.
June leaves two sons and their wives, David and MaryLou of Swanton and Dean and Jonalie of Fort Knox, KY; a sister, Joan Case of Dover, Delaware; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, June was predeceased by two brothers, Jimmy and Jerry Resh.

She was born in Richford on October 1, 1936 to the late Patrick & Lila (Lagro) Gendron.
Estelle served in the U.S Army and then worked at Blue Seal Feeds in Richford for 30 years. She married her late husband Camille on September 9, 1966. Estelle loved her family very much, especially her grandsons. Her favorite hobbies included working in her flower gardens and bird watching.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Suzie Stephens of Richford; grandsons, Patrick Stephens and his wife Christina of Webster, NY and Dylan Stephens and his wife Courtney of Richford; great grandson, Andrew Stephens; siblings, Jean White and her husband Everett of Milton, Sally Pelky and her husband Phil of Berkshire, Roger Gendron of Richford and Jim Gendron of Richford and several nieces & nephews. Besides her parents, Estelle was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Camille Girard; her son Larry Stephens and her siblings, Margaret, Larry, Sam and Leon.
In keeping with Estelles wishes, there will be no public services and her remains will be scattered at the convenience of her family.

Leo Raymond Gonyea
....show , age 78 years, died late Saturday evening, May 20, 2017, in the Northwestern Medical Center with loving family at his side.
Born in Merrimack County Farm on, August 16, 1938, he was the son of the late Leo Samuel and Yvonne (Belair) Gonyea. He graduated form BFA-St. Albans and attended New Hampshire Technical Schools. On May 6 1961, he was married to the former Carolyn Morgan who survives him.
A carpenter by trade Leo worked many years alongside his father at Leo Gonyea Construction and in later years until his retirement for Don-Vac of Burlington. He was an avid deer hunter and gardener and loved cooking. He was also a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose and Eagles Club both in St. Albans.
In addition to his wife Carolyn of Highgate Center, Leo leaves a son, Joseph Gonyea of Alburgh; a daughter, Cheryl Gonyea of Grand Isle; grandchildren, Albert L. Fresn, Amanda Fresn, Justin Johnson, Chris Gonyea, and Corey and Alyl Lang; six great grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, Leo was predeceased by a daughter, Michelle Fresn and two sisters, Pauline Rix and Carole Gonyea.
A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, May 27, 2017, at 12 Noon from The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. Father Luke P. Austin will officiate. The Rite of Committal with full military honors will take place later at the Gonyea family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery, St. Albans.

She was born on January 22, 1936 in Newark, NJ to the late George & Edythe (Krejci) Murray.
Patricia attended Point Pleasant Beach High School and Fiken Hospital Nursing School. She was a registered nurse for many years. She was married to Garfield Grishbowsky for 25 years and he passed away in 1979. She then married Frank Reilly in 1980 and he passed away in 1998. Patricia was a long-time volunteer for the Girl Scouts and her favorite hobbies included reading, sewing and swimming.
She is survived by her children, Carol Wisneiwski and her husband Glenn, Edye Fanning and her husband John and Frank Grischbowsky and his wife Evelyn; grandchildren, Albert, Amy, Arlene, Katelyn, Jonathan, Melanie, Diane, and Sammy; great grandchildren, Aiden, William, Hannah, Destiney, Justice, Truanne and Jason and several nieces & nephew. Besides her parents, Patricia was predeceased by her 1st husband, Garfield Grischbowsky and her 2nd husband, Frank Reilly; daughters, Christine and Diane Grischbowsky; granddaughter, Jamie and siblings, Barbara Meidof and George Murray Jr.

Born in St. Albans on, March 1, 1964, he was the son of the late Ephraim and Rosalie (Pelkey) Machia. He attended Highgate schools and later received his Associates Degree in Liberal Arts from the Community College of Vermont. He owned and operated a highly successful business, Scottys Taxi for 16 years
He enjoyed history and helping various charities including, Habitat for Humanity, Toys for Tots and the local food self. He also enjoyed repairing vehicles and renovating houses and old buildings. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Richford.
Scott leaves his companion of 16 years, Regina Machia of Highgate; a son, Hazen Scott Machia of Highgate; a step-son, Darrell Meyer of Sheldon; a daughter, Brandy Rose Machia of Highgate and her daughter Trinity Rose Johnson of Enosburgh; two brothers, Keith Machia and his wife Louise of Highgate and Corey Machia and companion Lela Omiak of Highgate; a sister, Cher Freeman and companion Dan Poissant of Sheldon as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bernard Wayne Bushey
....show , age 80 years, passed away early Thursday morning, May 18, 2017, in the University of Vermont Medical Center with loving family at his side.
Born in Sheldon on, March 16, 1937, he was the son of the late, Kenneth B. and Lucille B. (Bachand) Bushey. He graduated from the former Highgate High School and on, July 7, 1956, was married to the former Aleta Cooper who survives him.
After graduating from High School, Wayne entered the U.S. Air Force where he served a four year tour. After his military tour, he moved his wife Aleta and young family back to Highgate. He took over the management of the Highgate Mobile Station where he ran the business for a number of years before taking employment at the Sheldon Paper Mill, while at the same time working part time for Busters Mobile in Swanton.
Waynes interest in making the Town better started early. In 1961, the Town received its fire protection from the town of Swanton. The voters of Highgate authorized the formation of a volunteer fire department. Wayne and a handful of individuals formed the Highgate Volunteer Fire Department. He was the departments first chief and served in that position for five years.
Always a hockey fan, he was often seen on Wednesday and Saturday nights on his roof trying to dial the antenna for the Canadian Station showing that nights hockey game. In 1971, when the interest in ice hockey grew in Highgate, Wayne and a few hockey minded folks reorganized a youth hockey team. After a year, the team grew into more teams and the Missisquoi Amateur Hockey Association was born, and Wayne was the organizations first director. After 40 years, the organizations community spirit thrives in Highgate.
In 1975, Wayne took on a new challenge in our community when he was elected to the Missisquoi Valley Union High School board. He served on the board for fifteen years making important decisions about hiring school officials, school infrastructure and support systems, and interacting with the community about all aspects of the school district. Wayne and Aleta also found time to start a Cub Scout den in Highgate and operated the dens activities out of their home for a number of years.
Most recently, Wayne continued to contribute to the community by delivering meals through the Meals on Wheels program, served as a member of the Knights of Columbus, and for the past few years, prior to Waynes illness he mowed the St. Louis Church cemeteries.
Wayne has lived through times when the community helped raise and develop all the youth of the Town. He has been a mentor to many before the term was popular. Wayne has been one of the citizens that when a need in the community arose, did not make excuses of why he couldnt help, but rose to the challenge.
In addition to Aleta , Waynes wife of 61 years, he leaves his daughter and her husband, Lisa and Bruce Therrien of Highgate Springs; three sons, Jeffery Bushey and wife Wanda of Highgate Springs, Stephen Bushey and wife Linda of Zephyrhills, FL and Bradley Bushey of Highgate Center; grandchildren, Eric and Michaela Bushey, Heather Bushey, Courtney and Christopher Norris, Brent Bushey, Brady and Hilary Therrien and Chad Therrien; great grandchildren, Jordan, Dylan, Rylee and Paxton; four sisters and their husbands, Rita and Laurel Spears, Janet Donna, Debbie and Clarence Miller and Paulette and Douglas Vincelette; two brothers and their wives, Ronald and Agnes Bushey, Mark and Mary Bushey, as well as several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents Wayne was predeceased by a brother and his wife, Blair and Iona Bushey and brothers-in-law, Arthur Donna, Robert Flint and Robert Cooper.
The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at 11 a.m. from St. Louis Roman Catholic Church, 186 Lamkin St. Highgate Center. Father Luke P. Austin will be the celebrant and homilist. The Rite of Committal with full military honors will follow in St. Louis Cemetery.

BERKSHIRE - Carl A. Bates
....show , age 84, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2017, at his home with his loving wife Noella by his side. He was born in Dunham, Quebec on March 28, 1933 to the late George and Mary (Bushey) Bates.
At the age of 18, Carl was working on a farm in Dunham when he met the love of his life Noella (Fleury) Bates at a barn dance. He traveled up Mount Echo for 3 years chasing Noella until she let him catch her as he would always say. On January 28, 1955 Carl and Noella wed and the next day moved to Berkshire, Vermont where he would work on the Dudley Farm. Eleven short months later, they welcomed their first of five children. Carl went on to work for several different farms until he purchased his own in Enosburg. As their family continued to grow, Carl pursued his passion for farming; buying and selling three farms until settling at the Bates Family Farm on Reservoir Road in Berkshire. While the youngest son, Tom, took over the family farm, Carl would go on to co-found Bates Farm, Home and Garden with his son Tim. Upon retirement , Carl then purchased a portable sawmill, working all over Franklin County. Throughout this time, he also devoted endless hours to helping during crop season on the farm.
Among his hobbies which included cards, puzzles, and agriculture, his favorite pastime was sitting at the kitchen table keeping a close eye on the farm and waiting for his daily visitors to come and share stories and witty jokes with. Carl enjoyed tinkering and could fix anything from a razor, to a tractor, to a broken heart. Carl was a loving husband, exceptional father, and the best grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and always knew what every one of his babies was up to. Carl was the strong and sturdy foundation that built the Bates family of which he instilled the importance of hard work, honesty, and family above all else. Anyone who walked in the door was considered family to him and his home was always inviting and full of love.
Carls love for his wife, Noella was monumental. Even in his final hours, he longed for her and wasnt fully satisfied unless she was within arms reach. The bond he shared with her will always be remembered and cherished by his family. Besides his wife Noella, Carl is survived by his children AnneMarie Bates and her friend Howard of Enosburg, Carol Guillmette and her husband Mark of Enosburg, Tim Bates and his friend Sandy of St. Albans, Patti Laurie and her husband Jon of Nicholville, NY, and Tom Bates and his wife Kim of Berkshire. He also leaves behind several grandchildren including: Becky and Jordan Hale, Jennifer and Jason Gagne, Leah and Joey Monego, Jessie Guillmette and her friend Ryan, Kristi and Nicolae Popescu, Josh and Whitney Bates, Kyle Laurie and his friend Katie, Shane Laurie and Darren Laurie, Brad and Courtney F. Bates, Courtney K. Bates, and Zachary Bates. And several great grandchildren: Abigail, Noah, Aidan, Nicholas, Nico, Caden, Easton, Addison, Alyssa, Cullen and Teagan. He is also survived by a special former daughter-in-law, Mary Bates; brother-in-law, Peter Fleury; sisters-in-law, Lorraine Maurice, Marjorie and Pansay Bates and so many other family members and friends who loved him dearly.
Besides his parents and siblings, Carl was predeceased by his very special granddaughter Jodi Lynn Robtoy.

Wayne Anthony Young
....show , age 80 years, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2017, with loving family by his side. Wayne was born in Fairfield on, December 18, 1936, to the late Donald and Kathleen (Hale) Young.
In Waynes earlier years he enjoyed gardening, woodworking and music of all kinds. What Wayne enjoyed the most was being home by the pool with family and friends.
He leaves his wife Marion; three sons and their wives, Mark and Denise, Steve and Candie and Gary and Tamie; six grandchildren, Sara, Eric, Miranda, Shaun, Heather and Jodie; 11 grandchildren, Mariah, Allie, Chanler, Colby, Mikayla, Ethen, Maggie, Montanna, Alastrina, Maximus and Kinley; four special nieces who knew him as Uncle Brub and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Mildred Rocheleau and an aunt, Ruth Rice and William Brown.
He was predeceased by a sister and brother-in-law, Jacqueline and Rene Bilodeau and two stillborn siblings.

....show , Age 88, passed away peacefully June 19, 2017 in the Villa Rehab Center in St Albans, Vt.
Born in St. Albans on July 15, 1928, he was the son of the late Jedediah P. Ladd, Sr. and Ethel (Miller) Ladd of Alburgh Springs, Vt. He attended schools in Alburgh and Hartford, CT.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife Janet (Oman) Ladd. Jed and Janet celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary June 7, 2017. His children; Kathy (David), Cindy (Steve), Diana (Mike) and Debbie (David). Grandchildren; Anna, Sara, Alison, Maggie, Jan, Ellen, and Jonathan. Four great-grands and counting. Brother Herbert, sister-in-law Joyce, several nephews and nieces and many good friends.
In addition to his parents, Jed was pre-deceased by brothers Paul and Philip, sisters-in-law Katherine and Pat, niece Hillary and many faithful well-trained fur babies.
He enjoyed various professions including building contractor and developer, teaching Industrial Arts and Realtor.
Jed was a longtime member of the Columbus Lodge #11 F&AM in Alburgh, VT. Jed was proud of being a lifelong resident of Grand Isle County, although he was known to complain just a little about taxes.
Jed felt a great sense of accomplishment in attaining his private Pilots License at a senior-ish age. He enjoyed many flights with his flying buddies Cecil Percy and Brett Sylvester. Jed also forged very close friendships with many Vermont State Troopers.
Per Jeds request, there will be no visiting hours or services. A Celebration of Jeds Life
will be held at a later date, at the convenience of the family.

Evelyn B. Many
....show , age 99, died peacefully on June 15, 2017, at the Franklin County Rehab Center with her family by her side.
Born on August 24, 1917 in Montgomery, VT., She was the daughter of the late Chester and Dala (Hart) Laplant, was raised and attended school in Sheldon Springs, VT.
She married Roger Many on May 30, 1935. Together they owned and operated the Many family farm on the Middle Road in Swanton until 1957, when they built and Operated Gateway Motors auto dealership until the mid-1970s. Evelyn then worked at Giant and Ames Department stores until her retirement.
She was a woman of many talents; and is well known for her artistic and award-winning Afghans; many of which were given to family and friends as gifts or donated to various charities. For the past few years she spent her time making hundreds of hats for the newborn nursery at Northwestern Medical Center.
Her hobbies included crocheting, making Mas Caramel Corn and jams & jellies, playing cards and bingo, reading, or watching the Boston Red Sox & golf with her best friend Betty Redman.
She was a member of the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary-Saint Louis Parish in Swanton, The Ladies of St. Anne, and Honorary Member of the Altar Society. She was also a staunch supporter of The Franklin County Business and Professional Womens Foundation.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her Husband Roger, her brother Leon Laplante and sister Thena Wersebe.
She leaves her son Raymond Many and his wife Jacqueline of Highgate, their children Alan Many, Steven Many, Kevin Many, Christopher Many, Robert Cook, and Tina Cook. Her daughter Joan Many Broderick Luce and husband Russell Luce of Swanton, their children Daniel Broderick, Karl Luce, Erik Luce, Amie (Luce) Miller, Kris Luce, and Lola (Luce) Parenteau. She also leaves 11 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her brother Richard Laplante and wife Edna of Essex, Sister Elaine Belisle and husband Morris of Swanton, and step-sister Shirley Jacobs of St. Albans.

She was born June 10, 1948 in St. Albans to the late Robert & Phyllis (King) Waterhouse.
Ellie graduated from Richford High School in 1966 and married Roger Fournier on June 18th of that same year.
They lived in Berkshire and Derby for a short time before buying the farm in 1968 on Pigeon Hill Road in Franklin. She would wake up early each morning and head to the barn to milk the cows, then she would be off to work in the field or wherever she was needed for the day, and then back to the cows for the evening milking. Somewhere in between, she would make sure the house was clean, meals were prepared and the bills were paid. Despite the long days running the farm with Roger, she found time to sew the kids a new dress, teach them how to drive, bring them to the rink for roller skating or to the "front of the lake" for a late night swim after chores. Ellie also taught them how to make the best homemade bread and peanut butter fudge! She also loved to waitress at her sister Careys dinner. Ellies home was always warm and welcoming and she cherished the time spent with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Roger Fournier of Franklin; their children, Grace Rena Menard and her husband Gary of St. Charles, MO, Judi Rainville and her husband John of Franklin, Emily Clough and her husband Chad of West Hartford, VT and R.J. Fournier and his wife Dawn of Franklin; grandchildren, Selena and her husband Matthew, Maria and her fianc Brice, Jake, Lexa, Haley, Sadie, Luc, Keeleigh, Logan, Lillianna and Ben; her siblings, Carey Hemond of Richford, John Waterhouse of Berkshire, Kim Waterhouse and his wife Sharon of Lewiston, ID, Mark Waterhouse and his wife Sharon of Richford; a very special god daughter, Diane (Brown) Bean and her family; her very special friend Connie Ladieu and several nieces, nephews and close friends. Besides her parents, Grace was predeceased by a sister-in-law, Debbie Waterhouse.

A funeral service will be Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 12:00 PM at the Fournier Farm, 1001 Pigeon Hill Rd., Franklin, VT with Pastor Patrick Hoadley officiating. Interment will follow on the farm. Visitation will be held at the farm from 10:30AM until the hour of the funeral.
Friends are invited to join the family for a pot-luck dinner at the farm immediately following the burial.

....show , age 46 of Franklin, died early Monday morning June 12, 2017 at his Main St. residence with his mother Claire and loving family at his side.
Born in St. Albans on August 10, 1970, he is the son of Claire (Rainville) Choiniere and the late Andrew Choiniere of Franklin, VT. Eric attended Highgate School and graduated from MVU in 1988. He went on to UVM and graduated with a BA Degree in Zoology and Chemistry. After graduation he drove cross country to make his home in Seattle, WA for the next 20 years. When he became disabled, he returned to Vermont. He loved tennis, Baking and karaoke.
In addition to his mother Claire, he leaves his brothers and sisters; Marie and Tom Clearman of White, GA, Carmen and Gabe Trahan of Georgia, VT, Colette and Marshall Ploof of Franklin, Carol and Michael Rainville of E. Fairfield, Rina Choiniere of Sheldon, Edward Choiniere of Highgate Center, Gloria and Alan Marceau of Williamstown, Luke and Lori Choiniere of Highgate Center, Denise Choiniere-Cox of West Swanton, Doris and Michael Bourgeois of Seagrove NC, Conrad and Denise Choiniere of Ellicott City, MD., godfather Jacques Rainville of St. Albans, a very good friend Denise Cote. ....show , age 95, Part time Stowe resident died at his home in Singer Island Florida on June 12, 2017.
Ernest was born in Waco, Texas on January 22, 1922 to Ernest Musslewhite Sr. and Anna Mae Musslewhite (Hunter).
He spent a good part of his childhood both in Texas, and on the island of Aruba where his father worked in an oil refinery. He graduated from Rice University with a degree in Chemical Engineering and went to work for Standard Oil (Exxon) at the age of 20, where he remained employed for 42 years.
He was married to Geraldyn Nowakowski until the time of her death in August of 1969. In March of 1970 he married Ruth Mckinley (Olsen) and they remained happily married for 38 years until the time of her death in September of 2008.
Ernest is survived by his son, Peter Musslewhite and Debbie Sapp (Ormond Beach FL), his daughter, Kim Spaulding (Stowe VT), a step-daughter, Sharon Devries and husband Douglas (Montgomery Center VT), granddaughters Desiree Devries and husband Scott Sulik, Kirsten Cullins and husband Douglas, Brittany Devries and husband John Buck, grandson Trevor Spaulding, and great granddaughter Evelyn Cullins.
A private graveside ceremony is scheduled in Stowe, VT.

....show age 72, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2017 in Saint Albans Health and Rehab in Saint Albans Town.
Gail was the 3rd of 4 daughters born at home in Enosburg Falls, VT on July 3, 1944 to the late George Edmund Fassett and Alice Marion (Thompson) Fassett.
She started her schooling in Enosburg Falls but when she was 10 years old her family relocated to Alburgh, VT where she graduated from Alburgh High School.
Gail married Kenneth London May 16, 1981. Ken took on the task of teaching Gail to drive a car at the age of 37. She was known for being a wonderful cook and later made a career of her talent. She was very active with the American Legion Auxiliary Post #60 in Alburgh. She was always ready for a good dance.
Gail is survived by her 3 sisters; Marion Baker, Evelyn Fassett and Patricia Young; her nieces & nephews; Susan & Alan Fletcher, Kate and Mike Mashburn & their son Ian, Douglas and Dawn Baker and their daughter Michela. She is survived by many cousins in Vermont and in Canada. Gail also left behind her great friend and helpmate Maurice Gauthier of Alburgh.
The family wishes to thank Bayada Heath Care for their compassion and wonderful care.
In keeping with Gails wishes, there will be no calling hours or public services. Interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery by her husband at the convenience of the family.

Born in Portsmouth, Virginia on, July 22, 1964, she was the daughter of Lee and Leshia (Bessette) Paradee.
She was a loving, caring, daughter, sister and most beloved aunt to her niece and nephews. She loved to be outside enjoying the sunshine or walking in the woods. She also enjoyed gardening with her family and many friends.
She graduated from the University of Vermont in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, and worked as a Registered Nurse with 22 years of hospital experience in long term care and rehabilitation. She also had 12 years experience as an operating room nurse at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans City and long term care with the Starr Farm Nursing Center in Burlington and St. Albans Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in St. Albans Town.
Dixie leaves her parents, Lee and Leshia Paradee of Swanton; two sisters, Joan Hubbard and husband Tim of Swanton and Chandra Walsh and husband Andrew of Georgia; niece and nephews, Ashton Banyea and husband Seth, Adam and Andrew Hubbard, Cameron, Connor, Brady and Noah Walsh; a great nephew, Calyx Banyea as well as, very special friends, Louise Rocheleau, Kelly Connolly, JoAnne Gratton and Cody Paradee.

She was born the daughter of the late Timothy and Evelyn (Domingue) Johnson.
Dorothy was a devoted parishioner of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary-St. Louis Parish, a member of the Franklin County Senior Center; enjoyed assisting with Meals on Wheels and Lifeline, and she always looked forward to spending time with friends at Care Partners.
Besides her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by first cousin and longtime caregiver, June Paradis, and a dear cousin, Sandy Aylward.
She leaves many family members that include Homer Paradis; several first cousins throughout Quebec as well as local family, Maurice Domingue, Beverly Manning, Rita Langlais, Deborah Begnoche, Larry Paradis, Michael Paradis, Glenn Paradis and their spouses; multiple second and third close cousins, and her devoted caregiver Wendy Campbell.

Stephen Anthony Thomas
....show , age 64 years, died unexpectedly Friday June 2, 2017 in Alburgh, VT.
Born in Manhattan, New York on February 22, 1953, he was the son of the late Charles and Virginia (Kelly) Thomas. He graduated from Monroe Woodbury High School class of 1971 and attended Orange County Community College. On October 18, 1980 he married Pamela (Jachens) Thomas who survives him.
Steve retired from the United Parcel Service after more than 30 years of service. He has been a resident of Alburgh for the past 10 years and enjoyed being on his boat, all kinds of fishing, scuba diving, playing horseshoes, baseball bingo, and listening to his vinyl records at a high decibel. He loved retired life and always had a smile on his face whether it was because he was his own boss or had a practical joke to play. Finding good deals and being able to help anyone in need, Steve lived a fulfilling life. Steve was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and always eager to play in the annual family football pool. He always looked forward to dressing up as Santas number one elf for Christmas sleigh rides, family reunions, fishing trips, and holidays spent with his children and his beloved grandson Ethan who made him such a happy Pappy.
Besides Pam, Steve leaves a son, Matthew Thomas and his son Ethan of Greenville, NY; his daughter Ashley Porter and son-in-law Doug of Marcellus, NY; A loving brother, Raymond Thomas of Lords Valley, PA, and a beloved sister and brother in law, Barbra and Earl Knudsen of Alburgh. He was lovingly known by simply U.S. to Eric and Kelly Knudsen, Adam and Sonell Knudsen, Matt and Karen Knudsen, C.J. and Ericka Knudsen, Christine and Glenn Karch, Brian and Cathy Thomas, Virginia and Jimmy Hambrick along with numerous great nieces and nephews and countless others he considered family. Also surviving are special friends and neighbors who treated Steve as family, Kimberly and Jody Lewis amongst other long time friends including Jim Haag, Tom Scanlon, Steve Chocolate, and Kim Richter.

Phyllis Humphrey Cassidy
....show , age 88 years, died early Thursday morning, June 1, 2017, in the Northwestern Medical Center with loving family by her side.
Born in Highgate Springs on, July 8, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Reginald and Hazel (Hungerford) Humphrey. She graduated from the former Highgate High School and was Valedictorian for the Class of 1947. On October 2, 1949, she married her high school sweetheart, Richard Edwin Cassidy who predeceased her on, May 28, 2012 following 63 years of marriage.
Phyllis worked side by side with Dick and the family on their Gore Road Dairy Farm in Highgate Center for all of their lives. Phyllis passions in life were family, farming and a strong spiritual faith. She belonged to the Home Dem, the former Wildey Rebekah Lodge # 16 in Highgate and was a devoted and active member of the Highgate United Methodist Church.
As a young woman she was a talented seamstress, making most of her own dresses including her own wedding gown. Her skills in the kitchen are still some of the familys best memories of good cooking.
Coming from a musical family, the sounds of singing and laughter will stay with her children forever.
The tragic loss of her first born and only son Kyle left a hole in her heart that only her growing family could fill. She so enjoyed her grandchildren and their achievements.
Besides her parents and son Kyle, she was also predeceased by a brother, Wayne and sisters, Madeline and Nancy.
Phyllis and Dick had many friends throughout their lives including, Don and Marie, Claire and Andrew, Paul and the list goes on.
A special friend Joyce Ely took the steering wheel when Dicks tractor ran out of fuel and took her on those long cherished rides.
A special thank you to the staff of the Kings Daughters Home and the Northwestern Medical Center, for their care and support. She left this earth knowing that she was loved and cared for so much.
Phyllis leaves her four daughters, Joyce LaFar and husband Steve of Highgate Center, Tammy Ruhl and husband Darryl of Milton, Diane Cassidy of Highgate Center and Paula Whitehead and husband Mark also of Highgate Center; grandchildren, Randy, Jordan, Scott, Tyler, Jeremiah, Kyle, Eric, Hannah and several great grandchildren; a sister, Carolyn Stecklare, of Burlington as well as many nieces and nephews.

Carol married Ricky Tatro on December 16, 1989. Her children and grandchildren always came first in her life, even when she was giving them some tough love . Her favorite hobbies included going for her nightly walk, collecting teddy bears or anything that had sunflowers, sea shells or wolves on it, and listening to music.

Michael F Lamphere
....show , age 74, passed away suddenly Tuesday, July 4, 2017 in St Albans at Northwestern Medical Center.
Michael was born February 7, 1943 in Waterbury CT, son of Lynford and Kathleen Lamphere. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1961 followed with service in the Army National guard, and further technical education. Michael was a loving father and together with Georgiana Carr had three sons, Bryan, Ian and Judson. Michael married Willeen Burbank in 1987 and blended his family with two stepsons Christopher and Paul Kayhart.
An avid entrepreneur, Michael took great pride in providing for his family while being his own boss. Through the years he supported resident communities with local jobs, and passionate volunteer civil service, most recently serving as Director of the Alburgh Senior Center, and Alburgh Business Community Treasurer. Michael also previously served as Commander of American Legion Post 60 in Alburgh.
Michael is survived by his wife Willeen Burbank of Alburgh, brothers Jeffrey and Wendy Lamphere of Peacham, Mark and Teri Lamphere of Milton and Fayette and Andrea Lamphere of Sudbury. His children and their families; daughter Christina and Mathew Brown of South Burlington, sons Bryan Lamphere and Katie England of Sebago Maine, Judson Lamphere and Monica Donavan of Burlington, Daughter-In-Law Elizabeth Lamphere, stepsons Christopher and Lynn Kayhart of Ferrisburgh and Paul Kayhart and Laura Walker of Cambridge as well as several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Michael is predeceased by his son Ian Lamphere.

....show , age 63 years, died unexpectedly Monday, July 3, 2017, at her Laroe Street residence.
Born in St. Albans on, December 28, 1953, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Esther (Barratt) Young. She graduated from Missisquoi Valley Union High School in 1972 and on, December 10, 1977, was married to Brian Butch Barratt who survives her.
A lifelong resident of this area she was active in the Abenaki Nation of Missisquoi and was well known for her excellence in craft making and was a master at basket weaving. In earlier years Cookie worked for the former Columbs Bakery.
In addition to her husband Butch of Swanton, Cookie leaves two sons, Matthew Barratt of Swanton and Brad Barratt of Williston.; a very special granddaughter whom she was raising, Krista Ross Barratt; mother-in-law, Rose Barratt; brothers, Ronnie Young Sr, and wife Sally and Raymond Young, Jr; a sister, Judy and husband Bob Morris; brother-in-law, James Hoose and sister-in-law Joyce Hoose and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Sandra Gaudette, father-in-law, Leonard Barratt and brother Maurice Young.

A devoted Wife, Mother and Grandmother who loved spending time with her family, Shirley will always be remembered for her love of playing bingo, gardening, lawn saleing with her sister Florence, playing cards and watching her favorite TV shows.

....show - It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Norma J. Mashtare at her North Hero home on Friday, June 30, 2017, after a long and hard fought battle with cancer
Born in Alburgh on, August 11, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Hazel (Giguiere) Soule. She attended local schools and was married to Donaldson Hall Mashtare who survives her.
For many years Norma and Donald owned and operated West Shore Cabins. She loved her job there working and meeting new people and making many lasting friendships. She always felt that she was sharing the beauty of the sunsets with those around her. She enjoyed her winters in Hobe Sound, Florida. Norma was a member of the North Hero Fire Department Womens Auxiliary, the North Hero United Methodist Church as well as the Order of the Eastern Star, Swanton Chapter 11.
In addition to her husband Donald of nearly 62 years, Norma leaves two sons, Bruce Mashtare and Dale Mashtare and his wife Penny; a daughter, Donna Macdonald and companion Bill Johnson; a brother, Ralph Butch Soule and his wife Lynn and a sister, Carolyn Spankuch; grandchildren, Rachel (Corey), Heather, Ryan, Donald ( Barbara), Keith, Rev. Pastor Daniel ( Barbara), Lucas( Ashley), Keaton (Megan) and Braden; 16 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Besides her parents, Norma was predeceased by a brother Gordon Stone.
We open to all a Celebration of Normas Life , Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at 1 p.m. at West Shore Cabins, Normas home, 8888 Vermont US Route 2 in North Hero. Interment will take place at a later date in Jerusalem Cemetery.
