, 32, of Rutland died Saturday, January 17, 2004, at Rutland Regional Medical Center. Mr. Nelson was born February 16, 1971, in Newport, the son of Maurice and Esther (Wells) Nelson. He attended schools in Proctor, Barton, and Irasburg and Vermont Achievement Center. He was predeceased by a sister, Gail Nelson. Members of his surviving family include his mother, Esther (Wells) Plourde of Claremont; his father, Maurice Nelson of Merideth, New Hampshire; his maternal grandmother, Rebecca Wells of Newport; his paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Stetson of Raymond, Maine; his caregivers, Michael and Elizabeth Amsden of West Rutland; a half-sister, Marie Lamb of Boxford, Massachusetts, two half-brothers, Nicholas and Travis Amsden of West Rutland; aunts, uncles, great-aunts, and great-uncles in England. A funeral service was held January 21 at Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland. Officiating was the Reverend Robert Bove, pastor of Brandon Baptist Church. , 89, of Barton died in Barton on Wednesday, January 28, 2004. Mrs. May was born in Conchohocken, Pennsylvania, on June 14, 1914, the daughter of Bruno and Mary (Mankowski) Kwiatkowski. She was a member of Barton United Church and the Women's Fellowship. She was a 50-year former member of the Crystal Lake Grange. She loved to cook, and she enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren. On April 6, 1935, she married Harold May, who predeceased her in 1992. She is survived by her children: Fred May and his wife, Jane, Mary King and her husband, Brian, and Dorothy Hathaway and her husband, David, all of Barton; by her sisters Helen Jackson of Boca Raton, Florida, and Virginia Altenhoff of Barton; by eight grandchildren; by eight great-grandchildren; by one great-great-grandchild; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers: Joseph, Walter, and Edward. Funeral services were held January 31 at Barton United Church with the Reverend Michael Caldwell officiating. Mrs. Hauver was born in Derby on February 21, 1924, the daughter of Austin and Beulah (Roberts) Lahar. She enjoyed hosting Friendly Home parties for many years and spending time with her family. She was a member of St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church. On May 24, 1947, she married Elmer Hauver, who survives her. She is also survived by her daughters Jane Provoncha of Newport and Mary Hauver and her friend, Dale Bennett, of Newport; by her grandchildren Clint Provoncha of Coventry and Sheri Letourneau of Newport Center; by her great-grandchildren: Christine, Clint Jr., Casey, Corey, Storm, and Raven; by her brother Richard Bernier and his wife, Helen, of Newport; by her sisters Cecile Coburn of Newport and Rachel Brainerd and her husband, Howard, of Vergennes; by her sister-in-law Bert Lahar of Newport; and by several nieces and nephews. , 78, of Beebe Plain, a loving and devoted husband, father and friend to many, died on Wednesday, January 28, 2004, in Newport, after a valiant struggle. His will to live was unparalleled. Mr. Haselton was born in Newport on February 7, 1925, the son of Clarence and Harriet (Schoolcraft) Haselton. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force and worked as a computer programmer for Union Butterfield's, retiring after more than 40 years there. He was choir director at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Derby Line for many years and sang with several other area church choirs. He was a member of the Capital City Chorus and Green Mountain Barbershoppers. He was an officer and longtime active member of American Legion Newport Post No. 21 with one of his favorite committees being bingo. He liked to call but played reluctantly. He not only called at the Legion, but at several churches. He enjoyed golfing, curling, and his computer. He loved e-mailing his family and friends. He was a talented woodworker and made several items as gifts for family and friends. He was also an avid reader and understood the importance of humor. The National Barbershoppers competition in Utah and the Calgary Stampede were the highlights of his traveling experiences. He volunteered for many different things, including driving many, many folks to doctors' appointments. His family was the most important part of his life. In August 1949 he married Yolande Poulin, who survives him. He is also survived by his children: Marc Haselton and his wife, Cathi, of Newport Center, Ruth-Ann Willis and her fiancé, Jon Fletcher, of Derby, and Martin Haselton and his wife, Annette, of Derby; by his grandchildren: Michelle Charest and her fiancé, James Lantagne, of Jay, Réné Charest of Las Vegas, Nevada, Erik Haselton of Newport Center, Chris Willis and his friend, Jennifer Dean, of Burlington, Adam Willis and his fiancée, Katrina Prive, of Derby, and Crystal Haselton and Nathan Haselton of Derby; and by his great-grandson, Nicholas Lantagne of Jay. He was predeceased by two brothers and one sister. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated January 31 at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Derby Line with the Reverend Yvon Royer and the Reverend Bernard Gaudreau officiating. , 74, died December 9, 2003, at his home surrounded by his family. Mr. Dorworth was born and raised in Franklin, Pennsylvania. He attended public schools there and was a member of the high school debate team. Following his undergraduate years at the University of Pennsylvania, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and attended Officers' Candidate School in Fort Benning, Georgia. In 1951, while serving in the Korean War, he was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service. After the truce was signed, Lieutenant Dorworth helped organize and administer general equivalency diploma schools in Korea where armed services personnel could attend educational courses for credit. At the conclusion of his military service, he enrolled at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, from which he graduated with honors in historical theology. While serving as an assistant pastor at the Towson Presbyterian Church, he met Anne Adair Hurt. They were married on June 18, 1960, and shortly thereafter the Reverend Dorworth became organizing pastor of the St. Matthew Presbyterian Church in Silver Spring. The Dorworth family has enjoyed over 40 summers in Glover at what was originally the Hurt family summer home. Here they built their retirement home in 2000. The Dorworths are long-standing friends of the East Craftsbury Presbyterian Church. The Dorworths' daughter Caroline Adair was born in 1961, and their son David Burke was born in 1963. Caroline married Dr. Mark Fakuda in 1993; they have one son, Kai, born February 5, 2001. In the late 1960s, he was appointed director of Washington City Presbytery's commission on religion and race and was actively engaged in local and national efforts concerning racial injustice. His work led him to participate in many protest marches locally and in the South during the era of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Later he worked in the field of low-income housing, where he directed and coordinated nonprofit organizations in the development of community-based housing. As a member of the University Research Corporation he developed and implemented training materials for juror usage and management, educational programs for migrant workers, and sentencing guidelines. He returned to leadership positions in the church's regional judicatories - the Synod of the Piedmont and the National Capital Presbytery. hroughout his life, he was committed to an active role in the arenas of civil rights, racial and social justice, race relations, and interdenominational and interreligious efforts. , 79, of Newport died suddenly on Friday, January 30, 2004, at North Country Hospital. Mrs. Coburn was born in Newport on November 24, 1924, the daughter of Israel and Vivian (Tetreault) Lague. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1943 and the Fanny Allen School of Nursing as valedictorian in 1951. She had long been employed in the area as a registered nurse working as city nurse in the early fifties at Orleans County Hospital and North Country Hospital. She was a member of St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church of Newport. She enjoyed her family and grandchildren. Among her interests were art and literature. She was also school nurse for Lakeview, Hillside, and Sacred Heart elementary schools from 1968 to 1987. On August 8, 1952, she married Foster Coburn, who survives her. She is also survived by her children: Garry Coburn and wife, Agathe, of Newport, Kevin Coburn and wife, Cathy, of Bowie, Maryland, and Anne Anderson and her husband, Thomas, of Medway, Massachusetts; by her daughter-in-law Denise Coburn of Newport; by her grandchildren: Gabrielle, John, Kelly, Keith, Richard, Lauren, Carrin, and Bennet; and by a sister, Rita. She was predeceased by her son Michael; by her brothers: Thomas, Albert, Phillip, Anthony, and Raymond; and by her sister Lucille. She was a retired vice president and general manager of the TravelMart in Cleveland, Ohio, retiring in 1997. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Mentor, Ohio, chapter. She loved gardening and reading. Survivors include a daughter, Dianne Burroughs and her husband, Jeffrey, of St. Paris; three sons: William C. Barrow and his partner, Charlotte Biller, of Cleveland, Jack E. Barrow and his wife, Donna, of Mentor, and David J. , 88, beloved wife of Robert Wells of Craftsbury, died at her home Tuesday, February 3, 2004, following a long illness. Mrs. Wells was born in West Suffield, Connecticut, on July 14, 1915, the daughter of Henry and Alice (Humphrey) Church. She married Robert Wells on March 10, 1943, in New Britain, Connecticut, where they made their home until the late 1960s, when they moved to Craftsbury. She loved her family and enjoyed playing cribbage, gardening, and traveling. Besides her husband, Robert, she leaves a daughter, Roberta Hodgdon, and her husband, Gary, of White River Junction; and a grandson, Daniel Hodgdon, who attends Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts. , 74, of Craftsbury, died Friday, February 6, 2004, at his home surrounded by family. Mr. Smith was born in Charleston, September 2, 1929, the son of Charles and Florence (Sykes) Smith. He attended grade school in Charleston and Derby Line. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. On March 4, 1953, he married Marilyn Haney in Newport. They moved to Craftsbury in 1969 where they owned and operated the Craftsbury Garage until 1987 when he went to work at Vermont Precision Woodwork in Morrisville. He loved to spend time with his family, woodworking and playing cards. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, first in Newport then transferring to Morrisville. Besides his wife, Marilyn, of Craftsbury, he leaves three sons, John Smith, Steve Smith and his wife, Val, all of Craftsbury, and Roger Smith of Hill Air Force Base in Utah; a daughter, Tina, and her husband, Jeff Jackson, of Denver, Colorado; eight grandchildren, JJ Smith and his wife, Jodi, Jamie Smith and his wife, Jen, Chris Smith, Craig Smith, Chelsea Smith, Dillon Smith, and Samantha Jackson; and a great-grandson, Tre Smith. He also leaves a brother, Karl Smith of Albany, and a sister, Becky Weber of Cleveland, Ohio. He also had seven brothers and sisters who predeceased him. , PhD, of Myerstown, Pennsylvania, died at home on Wednesday, January 28, 2004, following a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Rossier was born May 18, 1936, at Copley Hospital in Morrisville, the eldest child of the late Bernard L. Rossier Sr. and Marjorie E. Noe Rossier Burdick, of Orleans. Mr. Rossier graduated 50 years ago from Orleans High School, in the class of 1954. He then graduated from Vermont Technical College in Randolph Center, completing a two-year course in one year. He then served in the U.S. Army for three years, receiving an honorable discharge in 1958. Mr. Rossier also received a bachelor of science degree from the Northeast Bible Institute of Green Lane, Pennsylvania; a master of arts degree from Villanova University, Pennsylvania, in 1973, a CAS in education from Arizona State University in 1977, and his doctorate in education administration from the University of Pennsylvania in 1988. Mr. Rossier first served the Lord with an assistant pastor position at the Edgewood Assembly of God Church in Edgewood, New Jersey. Then, from 1964 to 1970, he served as pastor of the Cedar Run Assembly of God Church in West Creek, New Jersey. During his leadership there, he was instrumental in building a large addition to the church. His life of service to the Lord then took him to Pheonix, Arizona, where he taught at the American Indian Bible Institute, and also served as home mission teacher. He was also a professor at the Valley Forge Christian College in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. In 1986 he was called to serve as pastor of the Maranatha Assembly of God Church in Richmond, Pennsylvania. At the time of his retirement, Mr. Rossier was serving as a professor and president of the Jimmy Swaggart Ministries Seminary in Baton Rouge, Lousiana. Mr. Rossier was the author of many books as well as college curriculum courses in biblical studies, theology and Greek. At the time of his death he was still taping lectures for young seminarians. In his spare time he enjoyed studying Greek, writing, education, gardening, and home improvements. He was also very proud of his children and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. Dr. Rossier was first married to Avis C. Taylor Rossier. She died in an accident in 1969. On June 29, 1970, he married Eileen V. Ingraldi and they celebrated 33 years of marriage last year. He is survived by his mother, Marjorie Burdick of Orleans; his wife, Eileen, of Myerstown, Pennsylvania; and three children, Michael of Robesonia, Pennsylvania, and his fiance, Marjorie Pennypacker, Gregory Rossier of Champaign, Illinois, and his daughter, Wendy B. Rossier Hanth and her husband, Tom of Pottstown, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four brothers, (Everett) Nick Burdick and his wife, Cora Ann of Albany, Edwin Burdick and his wife, Susan of Brownington Center, Larry Burdick and his wife, Gert of Orleans, and Terry Burdick and his wife, Tracy of Newport; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by his father, Bernard Rossier Sr., his stepfather, Willard (Gus) Burdick, his sister Christine Messer, and his sister Patricia Rossier. A celebration of his life was held on January 31 at the Grose Funeral Home in Myerstown. A graveside funeral service will be held on May 8 at 11:15 a.m., with the Reverend Roger Fletcher officiating, at the family lot in Pleasantview Cemetery in Orleans. , 68, of Albany died Tuesday, February 3, 2004, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, following a brief illness. Mrs. Rundgren was born in Littleton, New Hampshire, on December 3, 1935, the daughter of Wayland R. and Miriam M. (Abbott) Sinclair. She attended school in St. Johnsbury and later married Ernest J. Rundgren, who predeceased her in 1998. She worked at Ethan Allen Manufacturing in Orleans for many years. She also worked at the B&W, and after her retirement from Ethan Allen, she substituted as a hot lunch cook in the school district. She enjoyed camping with her husband at Eden Lake in their camper. Survivors include two sons, Ernest J. Rundgren Jr. and his wife, Catherine, of Irasburg and Eric J. Rundgren of Albany; two daughters, Catherine Sargeant and her husband, Neal, of Danville and Kim Rundgren of Evansville; a brother, Wayland Sinclair, of Wheelock; two sisters, Lorraine Smith and her husband, David, of Wheelock and Nancy Isham of Danville; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her mother-in-law, Doris Rundgren Andrews, and her husband, Victor, of Coventry. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernie, in 1998; and by a sister, Lauretta Sinclair. , 46, of Green Lane in West Charleston died peacefully after a long illness on February 7, 2004, at his home with his family at his side. He was born on June 4, 1957, in Finland, a son of Eero and Anja (Kossi) Martin. John Martin and his family moved to Vermont from Connecticut in 1998. He was a self-employed carpenter. He enjoyed hunting and fishing when he was able. He also liked gardening and canning vegetables, while his wife grew flowers. Mr. Martin built his own home on Dane Hill in West Charleston. On November 16, 1991, he married Gail Whitehouse of West Charleston who survives him. He is also survived by his children Victoria, Daniel, and Peter Martin of West Charleston; his step-children, Alan Esposito of Derby and Richard Esposito Jr. of Hamden, Connecticut; by his parents, Eero and Anja Martin of Lake Worth, Florida; by a sister Tiina Hawley and her husband, John, of Danbury, Connecticut; also by special friends and neighbors Mike and Jessica Green and their children Michaela and Jordan; and by nieces and nephews. On July 1, 1990, he married Caroline Trucott, who survives him. He was a self-employed taxi driver. He enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, cooking, hunting, fishing, ice fishing, and listening to country music. He enjoyed woodworking, which provided gifts for his family. He enjoyed having the family together, especially his children and grandchildren. He often traveled to Connecticut to visit his children, and he enjoyed his cat TuTu. He was willing to give his friends a helping hand when needed. He is survived by his wife, Caroline LaRock, of Newport; by the following children: James E. , 83, of Cross Road, Newport Center, died at her home on Thursday, February 5, 2004. Mrs. Kinne was born in Newport on August 26, 1920, the daughter of Homer and Tessa (Larabee) Coburn. On July 6, 1943, she married Richard Kinne, who predeceased her on November 13, 1999. Mrs. Kinne was an elementary teacher in the Newport Center and North Troy schools for most of her life. She enjoyed raising her Morgan horses and gardening. She is survived by her children James Kinne of Roseville, California, and Kit Kinne of Yuba City, California; her grandchildren, Jill Cassidy and Jeff Logan; her great-grandchildren, Jason and Dorothy Cassidy; and her sister, Phyllis Scott of Derby. She was predeceased by her daughter, Kaye Logan in 1989, and by her brother, Stanley Coburn. , 90, of Breezy Hill Road in Barton, died in Barton on Wednesday, February 4, 2004. Mrs. Howland was born in Spencer, Massachusetts, on August 8, 1913, the daughter of Chester and Jennie Mae (Fenton) Nichols. Mrs. Howland worked as a braid attender at Burke Lace & Braid in Providence, Rhode Island. She was a member of the Roady Rover Campers Club in Providence and moved to Vermont in 1990. On February 22, 1941, she married Daniel Howland, who predeceased her on February 22, 1979. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Melba Howland of Barton; her great-grandson, Trace Barber of Morrisville; her brothers Robert Fenton of Orleans, Harold Fenton of Florida, and Bernard Fenton of Massachusetts; and by nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Chester, and by her sisters Florence and Irene. A graveside service will be held in Massachusetts on Wednesday, February 11. , 70, a resident of Eden Mills, died Saturday, February 7, 2004, at the home of his daughter in Craftsbury following a long battle with cancer. Mr. Brown was born in Newport, June 28, 1933, the son of W.C. Olin and Marian E. (Gould) Brown. When he was three he moved to Eden Mills to live on a farm at the end of the lake with his parents. He had an older brother, Robert, and a sister, Glenna. He spent much of his time working on the farm and developed a love for nature. While attending the one room school in Eden Mills, he met Geraldine Griggs, whom he would later marry. He graduated from Peoples Academy in Morrisville and moved to Washington, D.C., and worked for the FBI in the photo lab. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict as a photographer. He then returned home to his beloved Eden. He married Geraldine in 1962 and did what he loved best; he went to the woods and became a logger. He loved the land and all its creatures. Mr. Brown was an honest and quiet man who spent much of his time fishing and hunting. He raised and showed his hunting dogs, loved to bowl, throw horseshoes and listen to bluegrass music. As his children were growing up, he was involved as a Little League coach and later as an umpire. Geraldine had predeceased him in 1987. He will be missed by his children: Sharon Brown Menard and her husband, Ernie, and their children, Michelle, Kristen, Andrea, Michael and Tiffany, all of Craftsbury; and his son, Charles (Chuck) Olin Brown Jr, of Eden Mills who resides at the home that Charlie and Geraldine Brown built. He also leaves his brother Robert's family; his sister Glenna Griggs and her husband, Lawrence, of Craftsbury; his in-laws, the late Alfred Griggs' family, all of Seabrook, New Hampshire; Lillian (Fay) Waterhouse of Craftsbury; Reggie and Eleanor Griggs of Craftsbury; Dorothy and Eugene Marckres of Craftsbury; Donald and Violet Griggs of Eden; Harold and Franny Griggs of Eden; and Norma Waterhouse of Craftsbury; many nieces, nephews and neighbors who will miss his presence and humor. His family and friends pray that he has gone to a place where the streams are full of trout and there are ten-point bucks standing on every ridge. , 77, of Troy died on February 3, 2004, at Bel-Aire Quality Care Nursing Center in Newport, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. Laliberty was born on August 13, 1926, in Norton, the daughter of Alfred and Derilda (Henry) Devost, who predeceased her in August 1949 and June 1994. She married Roland J. Laliberty on June 10, 1946, at St. James Parish in Island Pond. He predeceased her in July 1992. She was the loving mother of three children: Walter, Marie, and Roland "Beb." Shortly after she and her husband were married they moved to Troy where she kept the books for the family business, was an active member of the Ladies of Sacred Heart, and enjoyed bingo, playing cards, bowling, dancing, shopping, and most of all, being out with her friends. Survivors include her son Roland "Beb" Laliberty and his wife, Shannon, of Troy; her daughter Marie L. Jackson and her husband, Thomas, of Castleton; granddaughter Kristina M. Jackson of Burke, Virginia; grandson Jeremy T. Jackson of Castleton; granddaughter Thea Pion of Troy; and grandson Tyler Pion of Troy. Her son the Reverend Walter A. Laliberty predeceased her in August 2002. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated February 6 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Troy with the Reverend Jerome Mercure officiating. , 72, of Westfield died Friday, February 13, 2004, at Bel-Aire Quality Care Nursing Center in Newport, where he has been a patient for two weeks. He suffered a head injury after falling from his roof removing snow. Mr. Tucker has resided in Westfield for the past two years. He was a dairy farmer all his life and had farmed in Lanesboro and Cheshire, Massachusetts, and in New York State and Vermont. After retiring in 1989, he was employed as a caretaker at the Medical Arts Building in Troy for six years. He was born on December 18, 1931, in North Egremont, Massachusetts, a son of Rose Dellea Tucker and the late Clarence W. Tucker Sr. He attended schools in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and was a 1949 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Marines from 1950 until 1953. He was an avid gardener. Besides his mother of Pittsfield, he leaves his wife, Nancy L. (Martin), whom he married in Cheshire on July 25, 1953. He also leaves two sons, Dennis M. Tucker of Ten Sleep, Wyoming, and Dwayne E. Tucker of Newport Center; four daughters: Dareen C. Markham of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Dawn L. Wood and Dayle L. Wood, both of Scituate, Massachusetts, and Daphne R. Bracken of Vero Beach, Florida; two brothers, Norman Tucker of Sun City, Arizona, and Daniel Tucker of Florida, Massachusetts; two sisters: Beatrice Tucker of Pittsfield and Carolyn Passmore of Palmyra, Virginia; 19 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two aunts; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 21, at 1 p.m., at the First Baptist Church in Cheshire with the Reverend Michael Collins officiating. There are no calling hours. , 94, of Barton died peacefully Tuesday, February 10, 2004, at North Country Hospital in Newport. Mrs. Stevens was born October 15, 1909, in Barton, a daughter of Lewis and Viola (Downing) Labor. She married John Stevens on March 31, 1932. He predeceased her. She was a housekeeper in the Barton area. She held memberships with the Orleans County Historical Society, Westmore Ladies Aid, and North Country Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed working on crossword puzzles, watching television, especially Who Wants to be a Millionaire, and attending monthly family parties. She was always willing to help anyone in time of need. She is survived by two children, Dorothy Hoadley of Barton and Reginald Stevens and his wife, Betty, of Irvine, Kentucky; by nine grandchildren; and by 20 great-grandchildren. , 91, of Norton died peacefully February 11, 2004, at her home with her family at her side. Ms. Nelson was born on January 10, 1913, in Dixville, Quebec, a daughter of Edward J. and Helen (Parker) Nelson. She was a graduate of Montpelier Seminary School and attended McDonald College in Canada. She owned and operated the Nelson Store in Norton since 1949. She was a justice of the peace for over 50 years and assistant town clerk in Norton for many years. She was very community-oriented and very kind-hearted to her family and friends. She enjoyed her flower garden, cooking, and her recipes. She is survived by a brother, Wilmot Greenleaf Nelson, of Norton; by a sister, Miriam Nelson, of Norton; and by cousins Priscilla Blake of Florida and Frances Parker Mayhew of Coaticook, Quebec, and family. , 83, a longtime resident of St. Johnsbury, died at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, early Tuesday, February 10, 2004, after a relatively brief illness. Mrs. Little was born in Barton on June 9, 1920, one of six children born to Aimee and Yvonne (Renault) Labounty. Her husband, Lyle, died September 5, 1987. She was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church. She was active in her husband's many endeavors, particularly the Disabled American Veterans and the St. Johnsbury Lion's Club. She is survived by her three children: Fred Little and his wife, Robin, of St. Johnsbury, Gloria Choate of Tustin, California, and Robert Little of St. Johnsbury; by three grandchildren: Rachel and Aaron Little of St. Johnsbury and Theresa Choate of Tustin; by two sisters, Cecile Lesieur of Holyoke, Massachusetts, and Antoinette Macdonald of Poland, Maine; and by nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers: Urban Labounty, Delphis Labounty, and Paul, as a very young boy; and by two sisters, Jeanne Weymouth and Aline Labounty. , 78, of Lowell died February 12, 2004, in Lebanon, New Hampshire. Mr. Clark was born March 29, 1925, in Greenfield, Massachusetts, a son of Guy and Ruth (Spicer) Clark. He married Dorothy Edwards, who predeceased him in 2001. He entered the U.S. Navy on August 24, 1943, and was honorably discharged December 13, 1945. He was decorated with the World War II Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Medal. He was an animal caretaker and owner of the Hickory Hill Kennel in Lowell. He raised German shepherds and enjoyed cooking, fishing, and boating. He loved animals. He worked at several different jobs during his life, such as landscaper, machinist, and circulation manager with the Miami Herald, and he worked in a paper manufacturing business. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post No. 28 of North Troy. He is survived by a stepdaughter, Donna Maupin, of Palm Bay, Florida; by a grandson, Todd; and by two cousins, Dana Spicer of Windsor and Jean-Ann Ward of Bellows Falls. He was predeceased by a son, Robert K. Clark, in 1966; and by a grandson, Timothy. Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

, 61, of Barton died February 12, 2004, in Newport. Mrs. Brown was born March 27, 1942, in Newport, a daughter of Herve and Simone (Simard) Menard. On November 24, 1961, she married Steven Brown, who survives her. She was co-owner with her husband of the Candlepin Restaurant in Barton since 1963. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, reading, baking, flower gardening, reading scriptures, and sharing her faith. She loved people, which was evident by the success of the Candlepin Restaurant for 40 years. She is survived by her husband, Steven Brown, of Barton; by the following children: Donna Brown and her fiancé, Anthony Perry, of Barton, Diane Brown of Littleton, New Hampshire, Lisa Brown of Farmington, Maine, Ted Brown of Barton, and Carmen Brown and her friend, Jeremy Knights, of Barton; by two grandchildren, Hanna and Parker Brown; by the following brothers and sisters: Roger Menard of Barton, Roland Menard of Berlin, New Hampshire, Francis Menard and his wife, Sue, of Barton, Raymond Menard and his wife, Christine, of Newport, Pierre Menard of Ferrisburg, Pauline Nault and her husband, Ralph, of Barton, Patty Saum and her husband, Harry, of Lake George, New York, Rita Benoit and her husband, Robert, of Barre, Denise Wilkins and her husband, Paul, of Tequesta, Florida, and Carole Cogio and her husband, Michael, of Richmond; by her stepmother, Simone Menard, of Newport Center; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. , 79, of Newport died peacefully February 13, 2004, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Bly was born January 1, 1925, in Island Pond, the daughter of Ernest and Louisa (Sampson) Webster. On July 7, 1946, she married Harley Sam Bly of East Charleston, who survives her. She graduated from Brighton High School in 1942, where she was an outstanding athlete in both basketball and softball and a member of the alumni association. She graduated from Lyndon Normal School in 1944 with a teaching certificate and later graduated from Lyndon State College in 1976 with a bachelor of arts degree in education. Her teaching career spanned 30 years, most of which was spent at Derby Elementary School. She will be fondly remembered by her former students as a strict but fair and caring teacher. She held membership in the Order of the Eastern Star, Lakeside Chapter No. 27, where she was a past matron and a delegate to the Grand Representatives Association of Vermont. She also was a member of the United Church of Newport, the North Country Mountaineer Snowmobile Club, the Charleston and Island Pond historical societies, and the Retired Teachers Association. She is survived by her husband, Harley Sam Bly; by her four children: Robert Bly and his wife, Roxana Bailey, of Newport, Thomas Bly and his wife, Peggy, of Derby, Linda Bly Davis and her husband, David, of Lower Waterford, and James Bly of Hampton, Virginia; by the following grandchildren: Hallie LaCroix and her husband, John, of Okinawa, Japan, Jared Stevens of Newport, Jessica (Bly) Rojas and her husband, Noel, of Southbridge, Massachusetts, Max Bly of Derby, and Samantha Bly of Hampton; by great-grandchildren Jalen and Kalli Rojas of Southbridge; by two brothers, Kenneth Webster and his wife, Maida, of Yarmouth, Maine, and Richard Webster and his wife, Charlotte, of Las Vegas, Nevada; and by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. , 91, of Morgan Center died peacefully on February 17, 2004, in Newport. Mrs. Cargill was born April 29, 1912, in Coventry, a daughter of Walter and Jessie (Newton) Thayer. She was a graduate of Newport High School and received her education degree from Johnson Normal School. She was an elementary school teacher for Morgan and Newport schools and retired as the postmaster for the Morgan Center Post Office, where she served for nearly 40 years. On February 19, 1938, she married Everett Cargill, who predeceased her on December 19, 1984. She was an active member of Morgan United Church, the Seymour Lake Homemakers Club, and the Retired Teachers Association. Among her hobbies, she enjoyed cooking, reading, flowers, and visiting with post office patrons and community members. She is survived by her children Sandra McLeod of Hinesburg and the Reverend Robert Cargill and his wife, Carole, of Morgan; by her grandchildren Benjamin Cargill and his wife, Hannah, of Fairfax and Philip Cargill of Morgan; by a brother, Merton Thayer, and his wife, Verna, of St. Johnsbury; and by nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Thayer, who was killed in action during World War II; and by a sister, Jennie Thayer Monette. , 57, of East Montpelier died Thursday, February 19, 2004, at Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin, following a courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. Wright was born September 8, 1946, in Stowe, the daughter of Lewis J. and Arlene (Mayo) Gonyaw. She attended public schools in Greensboro Bend and East Hardwick and graduated from Hardwick Academy in 1966. She continued her education at the Community College of Soldotna in Alaska. She married Robert Lee Wright in Greensboro on July 30, 1966. In 1973 they moved to Alaska, where they made their home for 15 years, returning to Vermont in the late 1980s. She had been employed at Flower City and Emslie the Florist, both in Montpelier. For more than ten years she owned and operated Alice's Perennials in East Montpelier. She had been a member and past president of the Sterling Homemakers in Sterling, Alaska. She will be remembered for her very contagious laugh. She enjoyed picking berries, dancing, reading, cooking, and traveling. Survivors include her mother, Arlene Gonyaw, who died soon after her daughter on February 21, 2004; her loving husband of 37 years, Bob, of East Montpelier; four daughters: Wendy Metheny and her husband, James, of Cortland, Ohio, Sandra Wright and her fiancé, Joey Bibeau, of Essex, Doctor Karen Wright of New York City, and Michelle Christie and her husband, Kevin, of Montpelier; three grandchildren: James, Justin, and Madison Metheny of Cortland; three brothers: Leo, Larry, and Jeff Gonyaw, all of Greensboro Bend; two sisters, Elizabeth and Carol Hall, both of Greensboro Bend; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her father, Lewis Gonyaw. A memorial service was held February 22 at Greensboro Bend United Methodist Church. She was a member of St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church, the Daughters of Isabella, and American Legion Newport Post No. 21 Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening and plants. She is survived by nieces, nephews, and by her special friends: Ed and Rosalie Rushlow of Newport and Amber Labbee of North Troy. She was predeceased by brothers and sisters. , 90, of North Troy died in Newport, following a long illness. Mrs. Huckabone was born in Winchester, Ontario, on July 19, 1913, the daughter of Percy and Vivian "Earl" Durant. She married Arthur Huckabone in 1950. He predeceased her in 1975. She worked for Bell Telephone of Canada, the City of Ottawa Tourist Bureau, and the Department of External Affairs of the Federal Government in Ottawa before coming to Vermont. She worked for Starr's Transportation and Cepro of South Troy from 1975 to 1982. She epitomized the word volunteer, working for a number of different organizations for over 25 years, including the Newport Chamber of Commerce, Troy town clerk's office, Troy Elementary School, Rand Memorial Library, North Troy village clerk's office, and Missisquoi Valley Historical Society. She was a friendly voice, a kind smile, and a very knowledgeable person in any endeavor she undertook. In her last years she enjoyed her weekly trips to Newport to have her hair done and go to lunch at the East Side. She is survived by several relatives in Ontario and will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by many area friends. Services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Mrs. Gonyaw was born March 17, 1927, in Stowe, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Clara (Fielder) Mayo. She attended Stowe public schools. In 1943 she married Lewis Joseph Gonyaw in Stowe. She and her husband owned and operated a family farm in Greensboro Bend for many years. She later worked at Palmer Brothers Dry Cleaning in St. Johnsbury, at Hardwick Knitwear, and at several nursing homes including those in East Hardwick, Glover, and Greensboro. She retired in 2000. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Greensboro Bend. She enjoyed cooking, embroidering, feeding the farm animals, and watching geese. Survivors include three sons: Leo, Larry, and Jeff Gonyaw, all of Greensboro Bend; two daughters, Elizabeth and Carol Hall, both of Greensboro Bend; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Lewis, in 1966; by her daughter Alice Wright on February 19; by her grandson Christopher Gonyaw on February 25, 1979; and by a sister, Nelda Burker. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated February 25 at St. Michael's Catholic Church with the Reverend Michael Augustinowitz as celebrant.
