He was joined in marriage to Lorraine (Gammell) Fenoff and spent many years in Cabot, Vt., until they moved to Monroe, N.H. John was a farmer all his life. John is survived by his wife Lorraine of Monroe, N.H.; five children and their spouses, Sandra and Gordon Ward, Scott and Sue Stuart, Shirley and Patrick Gillander, Steven and Joanne Fenoff, and Stanley and Kathy Fenoff; five sisters, Cora Jones, Ethel Lunnie, Florence Ward and husband Kenneth, Evelyn Hastings, and Elaine Merchand and husband Raymond; three brothers, Reginald Stuart, Henry Stuart and wife Millie, and Desmond Stuart and wife Arlene; a sister-in-law, Eunice Stuart; his mother-in-law, Lorraine Gammell; several nieces and nephews; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Christopher Ward, Emily Ward, Todd and Dottie Fenoff, Teresa and Bill Litchfield, Trent and Amanda Fenoff, Tara Huntoon and Daren Smith, and William Huntoon and wife Brenda; seven great-grandchildren; and his pride and joy, his long-haired Chihuahua, Mia. He was predeceased by a brother, Claude Stuart. A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 3 at 2 p.m. at the North Monroe Methodist Church, with the Rev. Richard Hanson officiating. , 89, former Danville Town Clerk, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2001. He had been a resident of the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Hudson, Wyo., July 8, 1912, the son of Walter and Viola (Huff) Cahoon. The Cahoon family moved to Danville in 1915. Larry graduated from high school in 1930. He began his working career as a cook, in the lumber camps, at a hotel on Lake Champlain and in Florida, for the Bridge Gang on the St. Johnsbury and Lake Champlain Railroad, and in the U.S. Navy, where he became a chief commissary steward, serving on ships in both the Atlantic and Pacific during World War II. While working as a secretary in Washington, D.C., he married Rose C. Swords, April 19, 1947. Upon returning to Danville, he was elected town clerk and treasurer, retiring in 1977 after 29 1/2years of service to the town. His wife Rose passed away Oct. 25, 1994. He made his home with Ray and Sara Coutu since December 1999. He had been staying at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center since April, and was planning to return home with the Coutus before suffering a stroke this week. He is survived by two sisters, Barbara Abney of Miami, Fla., and Grace Chickering of Hinesburg, Vt.; five nieces and two nephews. Funeral services will be held at the Danville United Methodist Church Saturday at 11 a.m. with the pastor, the Rev. Henry Cheney, officiating. Burial will follow at Danville Green Cemetery. , 23, of Burlington, passed away in Newport, Friday, June 1, 2001. He was born in Brockport, N.Y., Nov. 17, 1977, the son of James and Mary Ann (LiCursi) Mulkin. Tim graduated from North Country Union High School and went on to get a degree in business administration from Champlain College, graduating in May 2001. He worked at Courtesy Motors in Montpelier as a car manager. Tim enjoyed golfing, boating and snowmobiling. He was well loved and he had many close friends. Tim is survived by his parents, James and Mary Ann Mulkin of Derby; his sister, Lorianne Flanders and her husband Peter of Derby; his grandmother, Edna Mulkin of Buffalo, N.Y.; his grandfather, John Mulkin and his wife Gini of Canandaigua, N.Y.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Della and Martin LiCursi. , of West Burke, died Friday, June 1, 2001, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury, at the age of 97. She was born in Kendallville, Ind., Feb. 4, 1904, the daughter of George and Gertrude (Westcott) Fleisher. She attended school in Indiana and graduated from Purdue University with a bachelor of science degree in home economics in 1927. She enjoyed sports and while at Purdue she was a member of the women's basketball team and was an all-around athlete. After teaching for a few years in the Midwest she received her master's degree from Columbia University in 1931. On July 2, 1936, she married Raymond A. Wagner. They moved to Vermont in 1946 and operated a dairy farm here. In 1957 she began a 12-year career at Concord High School, teaching biology and home economics. While there she was the adviser for the Future Homemakers of America Club, and traveled with students to state and national conventions. The 1969 graduating class at Concord High dedicated their yearbook to her. Mrs. Wagner was a member of the United Methodist Church women's group of West Burke. A woman with a green thumb, she enjoyed gardening, cooking, the great outdoors, her family, and following her children and grandchildren's school activities and sporting events. She is remembered for traveling across the U.S. in a Model A Ford to see the 1932 Olympics. She is survived by two sons, George Wagner Sr. of West Burke, and Hubert Wagner and his wife Therese of Salisbury; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Rachel Wagner of Barton; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Wagner in 1988; her brother, Hubert Fleisher; and two sisters, Harriett Appel and Edith Wilde. Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 10 at 2 p.m. at the West Burke United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Henry Cheney officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in West Burke. He was born April 27, 1920, in Bangor, Maine, the son of Albert J. and Ferne (Kenney) Noyes. Arthur served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Margaret V. Platt, and he was a watch maker and repairman for many years at Dana Jewelers. Arthur loved going to his camp on Mack Mountain in Peacham. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and outdoorsman. He was a life member of VFW Post 793 and a member of the Orleans Lodge 55 F & AM in Barton. Arthur is survived by his wife, Margaret of St. Johnsbury; six children, Monica R. Noyes of Barre, Sandra J. Noyes of Montpelier, Claudia R. Leibold and husband Phillip of Marshfield, Brenda L. Robertson and husband Wesley of Montpelier, Dwight D. Mr. McBey worked as a boiler room operator for 36 years at the former Gilman Paper Co. He was predeceased by his wife Beulah A. (Placey) McBey in 1995 and also a son, Howard McBey. He is survived by three sons, Dean McBey of Hartland, Vt., Everett McBey of Belmont, N.H., and Russell McBey of Lunenburg, Vt.; two daughters, Marilyn Shufelt and Sandra McBey-Boudle, both of Groveton, N.H.; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Richardson of Belmont, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews. , 74, of Pike, N.H., died Friday, June 1, 2001, at his residence. He was born in Pike, Nov. 16, 1926, a son of Ellis and Ruth (Snell) Hall. He graduated from Haverhill Academy, Class of 1944. On April 9, 1945, he was inducted into the U.S. Army, and was stationed in Osaka, Japan, as a member of the occupational forces. Upon his discharge on Dec. 3, 1946, he returned to the family farm in Pike. Howard worked as a cattle dealer all of his life and, together with his brother Richard, operated the family farm. He was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Kimball, Sept. 5, 1991. Family members include two brothers, Richard B. Hall of Pike, and Herbert W. Hall of Concord, N.H.; one sister, Edith M. Edith married Clair E. Bunten; they later divorced. For many years she was a department manager for Ames. Edith was preceded in death by two of her four daughters, Patricia Lamarre Travis and Mary Saladino. Robert served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He worked as a traffic controller at Nynex Central office. Robert was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, a life member of the Elks Newport Post 2155, and a member of the VFW Post 5243. She was born in Groton, April 7, 1928, the daughter of Leslie G. and Elizabeth (Hart) Page. "Dolly" was a lifelong resident, graduating from Groton High School in 1946. She had worked at the former Woodsville Diner and Spofford Drugstore, both in Woodsville, N.H., and the former Thomas Pharmacy in Wells River. "Dolly" was a member of the Groton United Methodist Church and the church women's group, was active in the annual Groton Fall Festival weekend, and was an avid supporter of Blue Mountain Union School. She particularly enjoyed watching her sons at school and sporting events and, of late, all her grandchildren's events. She was married to Allen L. Gandin July 23, 1950. Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Allen L. She graduated from Williamstown High School in 1941. Later in her life, she graduated from Fanny Allen Nursing School of Colchester as an LPN nurse. A former resident of St. Johnsbury, she worked as a nurse at Brightlook Hospital and at the Darling Inn Convalescent Center in Lyndonville. She was also employed by Capitol Stationery and was co-owner of Morey's Appliance with her husband. Evelyn loved her family activities. She also enjoyed her home, her flower gardens, dining out and traveling. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, George R. Morey, in 1980. She is survived by her daughters, Rochelle Pearson of Manchester, N.H., and Victoria Morey of South Burlington; her sons, Kenneth Morey and his wife Muriel of Colchester, and Douglas Morey of Essex; a daughter-in-law, JoAnn Morey of Colchester; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Wayne and his wife Gladys of St. Albans; her sisters, Gladys Menard of Raymond, N.H., Lucille Spencer of Newport News, Va., and Marilyn McMullen and her husband David of Berlin, Vt.; and many nieces and nephews. , of Bethlehem, N.H., died Thursday, May 31, 2001, after a year's struggle with leukemia. He was born in New York City, N.Y., attended Brandeis University and lived in Maine and California before settling in the North Country 23 years ago. Richard loved this community, his home and the people in it. He helped spearhead the successful campaign to prevent the Quebec high voltage power line from passing through town. He served on the Profile School Board and the Bethlehem Zoning Board of Adjustment. He ran a local film series at the Profile School. Richard was passionate about chess. He founded and directed a local chess club for many years, sponsored chess tournaments, taught chess in the schools, served on the board of the New Hampshire Chess Association, and was the 18th amateur chess champion of New Hampshire. Richard had a lifelong love of jazz. He had a jazz radio program in college and taught himself to play the flute and piccolo as an adult. He was a wonderful gardener and an excellent writer. He had a gardening column published in New Hampshire newspapers for several years, had articles on gardening published in magazines, and was a weekly gardening commentator on New Hampshire Public Radio. Richard was active in causes beyond the local area as well. He was proud to be a feminist and was committed to seeking peace and justice throughout the world. He served on the boards of the Haymarket People's Fund and, more recently, the Campaign for Ratepayer Rights. Knowing deregulation of power was coming, Richard organized the Northern Forest Energy Coop, which brought affordable fuel to local people. Richard loved children and worked for years as a substitute teacher while raising his own children, Ted, who will be a senior at Oberlin College, and Rebecca, who will be attending Vassar College in the fall. For the past few years Richard worked as a vocational rehabilitation counselor for the state of New Hampshire through the Berlin Regional Office out of SAU 35. Richard used his experience working as a mason, as a woodworker at DCI and as a substitute teacher at the schools to enrich this work. He relished his work, and was dedicated to his clients and his co-workers. Richard was loved for his sense of humor, his kindness, his integrity and his acceptance of life. He was a man who cherished brevity and would have been horrified at the length of this obituary. A celebration of Richard's life will be held at his home in Bethlehem at noon on Sunday, June 10. She was employed by St. Johnsbury Trucking Co. as a records clerk for more than 20 years. In 1983 they moved to Ohio, then in 1990 they moved to Illinois, and in 1996 the moved to Candler, N.C. She enjoyed working in her flower gardens. She was a woman with strong family ties, and spending time with her family was most important. She is survived by her husband, Wayne True of Candler, N.C.; their son, Michael W. True of Charlotte, N.C.; their daughter and her family, Beth Scheck and her husband Rodney and children McEnna and Dylan of Grand Blanc, Mich.; a brother, Harris W. , 78, of Essex Junction, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Fletcher-Allen Health Care in Burlington, with her family by her side. Born March 18, 1923 in Brookfield, Vt., Evelyn was the daughter of Florence and Henry E. Johnson. She attended schools in Brookfield and Williamstown. She graduated from Williamstown High School in 1941. Later in her life, she graduated from Fanny Allen Nursing School of Colchester as an LPN nurse. A former resident of St. Johnsbury, she worked as a nurse at Brightlook Hospital and at the Darling Inn Convalescent Center in Lyndonville. She was also employed by Capitol Stationery and was co-owner of Morey's Appliance with her husband. Evelyn loved her family activities. She also enjoyed her home, her flower gardens, dining out and traveling. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, George R. Morey, in 1980. She is survived by her daughters, Rochelle Pearson of Manchester, N.H., and Victoria Morey of South Burlington; her sons, Kenneth Morey and his wife Muriel of Colchester, and Douglas Morey of Essex; a daughter-in-law, JoAnn Morey of Colchester; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Wayne and his wife Gladys of St. Albans; her sisters, Gladys Menard of Raymond, N.H., Lucille Spencer of Newport News, Va., and Marilyn McMullen and her husband David of Berlin, Vt.; and many nieces and nephews. , 99, of Dunedin, Fla., died Friday, April 6, 2001, at Mease Manor Nursing Home in Dunedin. She was born March 30, 1902, in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada, the daughter of Alex and Ella (Chisholm) Bezanson. In the early 1950s, she and her husband, Parker C. Crandall, moved from the Lyndonville area to Clearwater, Fla., where she worked as a hostess at the Beachcomber Restaurant for many years. Survivors include her niece, Mrs. Karen Perry of Grafton, Mass., and her nephew, Mr. Roland Blanchard of Danvers, Mass. She was predeceased by her husband Parker, in 1984; her brother John Bezanson, and her two sisters, Celia Blanchard and Frances Gottschalk. Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 16 at 1 p.m., at Hillside Cemetery in West Burke, with the Rev. Barbara Dwyer officiating.

Ziobrowski, and her partner-in-life, Jere W. Frazer. She is survived by her three children, Jeanne E. Brenneis of Arlington, Va., Thomas F. Ziobrowski of Danville, and Robert G. , 62, of East St. Johnsbury (P.O. Box 2, 05838), died at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital early Thursday morning, June 7, 2001. She was born in Concord, Vt., Sept. 1, 1938, the daughter of Russell and Lura (Dresser) Ranney, and graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1956. Priscilla took care of the books and financial matters for several area companies, first with Ralston Purina and lastly with Northern Auto; she also worked for the former Hagar Hardware and W.T. Grant Co. She was a strong member of the Third Congregational Church in East St. Johnsbury, and was a treasurer of the ladies & #039; church group. She was also a member of Adah Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and loved to travel. Henry remembers how dear her Siberian husky, Heidi, was to Priscilla. She is survived by her husband, Henry St. Cyr; a brother, Everett Ranney of St. Johnsbury; a very dear aunt, Alice McGinnis of Lyndonville, whose faithful visits were always so appreciated; four sisters-in-law, Giselle Rogalski of Terryville, Conn., Murielle Lang of Enfield, Conn., Anne Woods of East St. Johnsbury, and Helen Haney of Littleton, N.H.; other aunts and uncles, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister-in-law, Everett's wife Annie, March 8, 2000. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in East St. Johnsbury at the Third Congregational Church, with the Rev. She was born in Lancaster, Oct. 15, 1966, the daughter of Lois (Irwin) and Arnold Hawkins. She had lived several years in Lancaster. She was a graduate of Groveton High School and attended Lyndon State College in Lyndon. She was an employee of Butson's Market in Lancaster. She is survived by her husband, Douglas L. Smith of Lancaster; her mother and stepfather, Lois and Peter Cardin of Maidstone; two brothers, James and wife Vicki Hawkins of Maidstone, and Jerald and wife Cheryl Hawkins of Guildhall, Vt.; two stepbrothers, Steven Collins of Maidstone, and Jason and wife Nancy Cardin of Groveton, N.H.; two stepsisters, Wendy Sharp of New Hampshire and Francine and husband Robert Dupont of Jefferson, N.H.; and aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. , 82, of Martin Road, Adamant, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin. Born Sept. 14, 1918, in Brattleboro, he was the son of George W. and Hazel E. (Howard) Houghton. He was educated in elementary school in Brattleboro and graduated from Brattleboro High School in 1936. In 1940, he joined the 172nd Infantry Regiment, National Guard of Vermont, and soon was inducted into federal service, receiving his training at Camp Blanding, Fla. He served as a truck mechanic in the Pacific Theater until V.J. Day and had been on the U.S.S. Coolidge when it was sunk. On Christmas Eve in 1947 he married the former Pearl Aldrich in the Trinity United Methodist Church Parsonage in Montpelier. They made their home in Adamant. After moving to Montpelier in 1946, he was employed by the Maunsell Company, selling office equipment. He remained in sales for many years. In 1972, he became a dispatcher for the Vermont State Police, retiring in 1980. At that time, he began dispatching for Barre City Police Department, retiring in 1985. Mr. Houghton was a volunteer in the Central Vermont Adult Basic Education Literacy Program and was involved with the 4-H Garden Program. His interests were farming, horses, hunting, fishing, reading, writing, crossword puzzles, and daydreaming. Besides his wife, Pearl Houghton, of Adamant, survivors include his children, Linda J. McHugh and her husband Paul, of Candia, N.H., David C. Houghton of Adamant, Lesley R. Duckett and her husband, John, of McIndoe Falls, Dan A. Houghton and his wife, Raquel, of Eagle River, Alaska. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Caitlin Elizabeth and Nicholas Houghton, both of Eagle River, Alaska and Carly Grey and Leah Joy Duckett; a twin sister, Carlena Howe and her husband, Wallace, of Belchertown, Mass.; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Frederick Houghton and Graydon Houghton. A Service of Remembrance will be held today, June 9, 2001, at 2 p.m. in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy St., Barre. There are no calling hours. , 90, of Grafton County Nursing Home in North Haverhill, N.H., formerly of Parker Hill Road, Lyman, died in the nursing home Thursday, June 7, 2001. Leona was a native to the North Country, born a daughter of Frank and Eva (Aldrich) Carr, on Sept. 27, 1910. She attended area schools. Leona worked many jobs over the 90 years of her life. A few of which were being a waitress, a chambermaid, working at the Gilman Paper Mill and the Lisbon Furniture Company. She lived many years in Sugar Hill on the Carr Homestead before moving to Lyman. She was married first to Lawrence Merchant and later to Gordon Chase, both of who predeceased her. She enjoyed and loved all of her family. She was a giving person to the extent that, if needed, she would provide for others and go without herself. Surviving family includes one son, Terry Chase of Manchester, N.H.; two daughters, Shirley Swanson of Greenville Fla. and Janice C. (Forsythe) Smith of Raymond, N.H.; one brother, Lawrence Carr of Lyman, N.H.; 21 grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren. Two sons, two daughters, one sister, and one brother predeceased her. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday, June 11th, at the Pillsbury Funeral Home, 77 South Main St., Lisbon, N.H. , 61, of 28 St. John St., St. Johnsbury, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2001, at the Fletcher Allen Medical Center in Burlington. He was born Oct. 21, 1939, in Burlington, Vt., the son of Chester and Thelma (Loure) Barnes. He worked for 35 years doing auto body work and as body shop manager at Raymond B. Hoar auto dealership, then he worked at Shaw's, then at Gagnon Motors in St. Johnsbury. In 1985 he started his own business as Ray Barnes & Sons Auto Body in St. Johnsbury, and he retired in 1990. He had a great love for animals, fishing and gardening. He greatly loved his family and had many friends. He will be sadly missed by all. He was predeceased by his father, Chester Barnes. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Richardson) Barnes of St. Johnsbury; his mother, Thelma Couture of St. Johnsbury; his four children, Raymond S. , 91, formerly of St. Johnsbury, died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at North Florida Specialty Care Center in Gainesville, Fla. She died in her sleep while convalescing from a heart attack. Born in East Burke, Dec. 11, 1909, she was the daughter of Charles and Jessie (Caswell) Foster. She attended schools in Kirby and graduated from Lyndon Institute in 1927. In 1982 she was predeceased by her husband, Gordon E. Wilson, and by a sister, Ruth. Mrs. Wilson worked as a telephone operator, as a bank teller, and as a waitress, most recently for the Hilltopper Restaurant. She moved to Alachua, Fla., from St. Johnsbury, 19 years ago. Irma loved family activities, enjoyed playing bingo, knitting, dining out and traveling. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Hoskinson of Alachua, Fla.; three grandsons, Tim Hoskinson of Gainesville, Fla., Nathan Hoskinson of Melrose, Fla., Patrick Hoskinson of Alachua, Fla.; three granddaughters, Michele Baker of Tampa, Fla., Cindy Woodruff of Fort Myers, Fla., Karen Strickland of Polk City, Fla.; two great-granddaughters, Meghann Hoskinson of Fort Myers, Fla., and Melissa Strickland of Polk City, Fla.; and three step-great-grandchildren, Paula, Justin and Josh Harris of Alachua, Fla. , 82, of Elm Street, Lancaster, N.H., died Saturday evening, June 9, 2001, at Weeks Medical Center, after a long illness. Mrs. Savage was born in Stark, N.H., July 12, 1918, the daughter of Frank L. and Lelia (Knights) Blake. At the age of 3 she moved from Stark to Lancaster, where she had resided ever since. She was a 1936 graduate of Lancaster Academy and a 1937 graduate of Bay Path College. Many forms of employment included bookkeeper at the Eastern States Office, and waitress at McKee Inn in Lancaster and the Country Kettle in Lunenburg, Vt.; she operated a sweater shop for Carl Lesnick in Lancaster, and was manager at the Hideaway Dress Shop in Lancaster; she also worked at the Rialto Theatre, babysat, sold Avon products, and was treasurer of the Lancaster Congregational United Church of Christ. For a time she was employed at Blake Gas as a bookkeeper, and assisted with deliveries. Eighteen years ago she started the Double SS Restaurant in Lancaster with her son, Frank. She was the Farm Bureau treasurer for 30 years, served with Coos County Extension for 19 years, and was a member of the Lancaster Historical Society and the Christ United Methodist Church, for which she was superintendent of the Sunday School. Known by family and friends as the lady who loved red, she enjoyed her family, bowling, bingo, ceramics, furniture restoration, and was an avid collector of dogs and dolls. Her dog collection totaled 6,000 in all. Family members include six children, George Blake and his wife Ellie of Danbury, N.H., Linda Martin and her husband Brad of Jericho, Vt., Brenda Savage of Gardenia, Calif., Diane Peterson of Euclid, Ohio, Frank Savage and his wife Penny of Lancaster, and Lois M. Swenson and husband Bill of Lancaster; 19 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; and brother- and sisters-in-law, Margaret Carr, and Gilman and Hazel Savage, all of Lancaster. She was predeceased by her husband, Leo R. Savage, in 1981, and two brothers, George E. Blake in 1983 and Howard Blake in 1977. There are no calling hours. , 88, of Ridgeview Terrace, Dalton, N.H., died at Littleton Regional Hospital, Sunday morning, June 10, 2001. Mr. Walter was born in Newark, Vt., July 26, 1912, the son of Ulysses Sedgewick and Elzora Flora (Shores) Walter. He worked at the Gilman Paper Company in Gilman, Vt., and was a truck driver. He was also employed as a woodsman with the Brown Company, Berlin, N.H., working on the Swift Diamond River, where he and a fellow worker would hand-cut 10 cords of wood a day for $7.50 per day. He was also a furniture maker in Whitefield, N.H., and became manager of the Mountain View Hotel farm, where he loved animals. On a farm in Bethel, Maine, he was employed by the president of the Rumford Bank. In 1950 he married Adelaide Largy White. At that time he also went to work for building contractor Allison Nevers for 15 years. In 1966 he was employed at the Bellview Biltmore Hotel, Clearwater, Fla., as a receiving clerk for 20 winters and did carpentry work around Whitefield during the off season. He had been a Mason since 1948 and a Shriner since 1950. Family members include two stepsons and their wives, Ronald and Marjorie White of Dalton, N.H., and Elmer and Madeline White of Meredith, N.H.; a stepdaughter and her husband, Patricia and James Doan of Summerville, S.C.; a brother, Charles Walter of Cave Creek, Ariz.; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday evening, June 12, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. , 73, of Summer Street in Lancaster, N.H., died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at Weeks Medical Center, after a recent illness. Mrs. Burt was born in Stewartstown, N.H., April 1, 1928, the daughter of Vivian Grace (Fissette) Damon and the late Edward Aldrich. She resided for many years in the Lunenburg and Gilman area, moving to Lancaster in 1977. At one time she worked at the Connecticut Valley Dairy in Lancaster. Norma will best be remembered for her love of and dedication to serving and caring for the elderly. Up to the time of her death she was an employee at the Holton Point Assisted Living Center in Lancaster. She had recently been recognized as having provided 20 years of service. She enjoyed helping others and playing bingo with her friends. She will be sadly missed by many. Family members include a son, Kevin Burt of Bangor, Maine; two daughters, Linda Jewell and husband Bradley of Groveton, and Peggy Keach and husband Robert of Falmouth, Maine; her mother, Vivian G. , 20, of Westmore, passed away at his home, Tuesday, June 12, 2001, following a long and courageous two-year battle with bone cancer. He was born Jan. 2, 1981, in St. Johnsbury, the beloved son of Carl Simino of Barton and Vickie (Sicard) Simino of Westmore. Roger worked for Paul Morse and Son of Hartland, as a tree climber and limber. He really loved his job but due to his illness he was unable to work the last two years. In between surgeries and chemo treatments, he worked when he could for his father and Uncle Reggie, running a log loader. Roger was a member of the NRA and enjoyed hunting and going to Mike's camp with Kristopher and the gang. He loved going fishing with Dwayne and Andy and anyone else who would go with him. , 69, of the Fairways, Bethlehem, N.H., passed away at Franconia Nursing Home, Monday, June 11, after a short illness. She was born in Brookline, Mass., daughter of James and Alice (Sullivan) Corbett. She was a home economics teacher and taught for over 20 years in the Medfield, Mass., school system prior to moving to Twin Mountain in 1980. She then taught in the Whitefield Elementary School for 20 years prior to her retirement in 1996. She was a dedicated teacher and beloved by her many students. She is survived by a brother, James Corbett, Westwood, Mass.; two sisters, Brenda Corbett, Littleton, N.H., and Ellen Williams, West Roxbury, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews. She was recently predeceased by a sister, Nancy Corbett Call of Texas. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, Brookline, Mass., Monday, June 18, at 10 a.m., and burial will follow in the Walnut Hills Cemetery, Brookline. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at the St. Rose of Lima Church, Littleton, at a later date.

, 58, a quiet, gentle, pensive man, passed on Wednesday, June 13, 2001, among family and friends at his home on the Brown Family Farm in Derby. He fought a courageous battle with cancer for three years. Charlie was born Aug. 4, 1942, in Newport, to Donald and Margaret (LeClair) Brown. He graduated from Derby Academy, Class of 1960, and later attended Norwich University and graduated from the University of Vermont in 1967. Charlie was one of the first teachers when NCUHS opened its doors in 1967. He was a customs agent and will be best remembered for his Sweaters and Jean Shop on Main Street in Newport, which he owned and operated for 13 years. For the last six years he was a courier for Community National Bank, Passumpsic Savings Bank, and Lyndonville Savings Bank, until three months ago, when his health failed. He was a devoted father, son, brother and friend to many. His loving children are Heidi Rae Desrochers and husband Robert of Derby, and Sean Brown and friend Hope Gray of Derby; and stepchildren Cedar Lalime Wang of Memphis, Tenn., Crystal Lalime of New York City, N.Y., and Kasey Lalime of Durham, N.C. He is also survived by his mother, Margaret Brown of Derby; a brother, Elwin Brown of Derby; and a sister, Effie Brown of Derby; plus several nieces and nephews; and his special lady and wife for many years, Rosemary Lalime of Derby. He was predeceased by his father, Donald Brown; and by his wife Virginia Brown. Charlie was an avid snowmobiler and will always be remembered by his "bros," Moe Provost, John Marshall, Jeff Goodsell, and the late Rene Valley, and other friends who made frequent snowmobile trips. She was born Sept. 22, 1923, in West Glover, a daughter of Walter and Doris (Whitcher) King. Mrs. Butler received a business associate's degree from Burlington Business School. On June 8, 1946, she married Arland Butler, who survives her. Mrs. Butler and her husband were former owners of Butler's Bus Service for over 50 years. She held memberships with the Order of the Eastern Star Orient Chapter 13 of Barton and the Colton Chapter 66 of Irasburg, Ladies Home Dem, Willing Workers Club, West Glover Christmas Club, and the West Glover Congregational Church. Among her hobbies, she enjoyed embroidering, working in her flower garden, crocheting and baking. , 71, of Stone Mountain, Ga., died Thursday, June 14, 2001. Mrs. Roberts was born Irene Lemire, in Littleton, N.H., on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, 1930. She graduated from Littleton High School in 1947, where she was on the girls basketball team and sang in the church choir. Irene worked for the local telephone company for a number of years before transferring to Richmond, Va. There she fell in love with and married Richard Roberts while he was stationed at Camp Pickett, Va. She raised five children. Three were born in California, one was born in Australia, and the youngest was born in Bolivia. She managed 23 family moves in 26 years before settling in Stone Mountain, Ga., where she had lived since 1977. Irene was a volunteer with the handicapped, learned sign language and worked with the deaf. She worked with her disabled son, Tim, for 30 years. She took up tennis in 1980 and played USTA and ALTA on women's doubles and women's senior doubles. Tennis was her vocation as well as her favorite recreation. She traveled with her husband to Hawaii, Singapore, Jakarta, and many cities in America and Canada. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Richard A. Roberts of Stone Mountain; daughters Roxanne Ivins and Sandra Markley, both of Stone Mountain; sons Jeffrey Roberts of Wadesboro, N.C., Russell Roberts of Stigler, Okla., and Timothy Roberts of Stone Mountain; a sister, Blanche Herbert of Littleton, N.H.; a brother, Anthony Lemire of Littleton; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A memorial Mass will be held Saturday, June 16 at 9 a.m. in the Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Stone Mountain, with Father Greg Kenney serving as celebrant. Inurnment will be in Melwood Cemetery. , of Pillsbury Manor North, South Burlington, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2001. The youngest of three daughters born to Eugene S. and Evalyn (Bowen) Ranney, Edith was born Sept. 15, 1901 in Lyndon and lived there until the death of her father in 1907, at which time the family moved to East St. Johnsbury. She attended the local school and graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy with the class of 1920. Between 1920 and 1938 she held positions with the Caledonia National Bank of Danville, Keene National Bank in Keene, N.H., and the Passumpsic Bank in St. Johnsbury. In November 1938 she was married to William Allen Gage, D.C. After earning her certificate in physical therapy and radionics from Metropolitan College she assisted in her husband's practice for nearly 20 years. Dr. Gage passed away in 1955. Edith was a member of the South Congregational Church in St. Johnsbury for over 50 years, and during the time she was living in St. Johnsbury was very active in church work and other activities in the community. In December 1958 she was married to Fred C. Fiske. They lived in South Burlington and later Butlers Corner in Essex Junction. Mr. Fiske passed away in 1971. Affectionately known as "Aunt Edie" by many relatives and friends, she was always busy. Her hobbies included stamp collecting, genealogy, sewing and crocheting, and growing African violets. While living in Essex Junction she volunteered for FISH for over 15 years. She is survived by a niece, Geraldine and her husband Rodney Lyman of Franklin, Vt., and Winter Haven, Fla.; a nephew, Leslie E. Parker Sr. of Portland, Ore.; grandnephews Terry Roy and his wife Susan, and Leslie Parker Jr. and his wife Sherry; great-grand-nieces Jessica Heath and Kailey Roy and nephew Jordan Roy; a stepdaughter, Miriam Fiske Hawkins and husband Elliott of Springfield, Vt. and their children, Richard Hawkins and his wife Marcia of Colchester and Barbara Collins and her husband Thomas of Miami Beach, Fla.; step-great-grandson Kenneth Hawkins and wife Rachel of Vergennes; step-granddaughters Dorcas and husband Carl Wright of Brookfield, Vt., Deborah and husband A. Roy MacAskill of Brookfield, and Celeste and husband Herbert Eselgroth of Rochester, N.Y.; and step-grandson Clayton Allen Gage and wife Lynn of South Barre, and their families. , 84, of Presidential View Drive, Twin Mountain, N.H., died at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., June 15, 2001. He was born Nov. 9, 1916, in Twin Mountain, a son of Francis and Mary A. (Cryans) Monahan. Mr. Monahan attended the University of New Hampshire civil engineering program. He worked as manager of Crawford Notch State Park, and conducted search and rescue operations in the Crawford Notch area. Leo was the first chair lift operator at Cannon Mountain. He retired from the State of New Hampshire Department of Parks and Recreation in 1981. He owned and operated the Presidential View Cabins in Twin Mountain until his death. He was a longtime selectman for the town of Twin Mountain. Surviving family members include two sons, Thomas F. of Littleton and David L. of Twin Mountain; three daughters, Rhonda M. Jenness of Littleton, Kerry A. Georgitis of Kennebunk, Maine, and Grace M. Cordeau of Fayetteville, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren; a brother, Joseph Monahan of Canton, Mass.; three sisters, Mildred McClusky of Twin Mountain, Rita Johnson of Twin Mountain and Kathleen Nunn of Kennett Square, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary A. Elliott Monahan, in June 1948; three brothers, and a sister. , 89, of Island Pond, passed away in Newport Friday, June 15, 2001, with her family at her bedside. She was born June 12, 1912, in Newark, the daughter of Walter and Blanche (Hudson) Hosford. Rena was a past member of the Island Pond Home Dem group. She enjoyed crocheting and particularly her vegetable and flower gardens. From her gardens she got great pleasure in making Christmas gifts for her family, such as canned foods, jams, jellies, etc. She derived much comfort and pleasure being with family members, and also with her two dogs and two cats. Rena married Clarence M. Daniels in 1931; he predeceased her in 1985. She was also predeceased by her brother Francis and her sister, Elisa Jane. She is survived by her children, Cecil Daniels and his wife Rita of Island Pond, Walter Daniels and his wife Diane of Island Pond, Marguerite Morgan and her husband Floyd of Richmond, Vt., and Gloria Taylor of Morgan; 13 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. , 86, of Lewis Hill, Bethlehem, N.H., passed away Friday, June 15, 2001, at the Lafayette Center in Franconia after a brief illness. Ruth was born Aug. 8, 1914 in Lisbon, N.H., a daughter of Clarence R. and Hannah E. (Marshall) Douglas. Ruth was a longtime member of the Sugar Hill Community Church. She was active in the Ammonoosuc Valley Group of Senior Citizens, a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, and past member of the Retired Teachers Association. She was a bookkeeper for over 30 years for the Hugh J. Gallen Garage. She was an accomplished musician who loved to play with talent more than 14 musical instruments. Surviving family includes one son, Michael "Mickey" Whitcomb Sr. of Bethlehem; one sister, Rachel Chandler of Stoughton, Mass.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. , of East Haven, Vt., died Monday, June 18, 2001, at Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton, at the age of 88. He was born in East Haven, Nov. 9, 1912, the son of Percy and Myrtie (Lee) Hartwell. He served his country overseas during World War II in the U.S. Army. Warren was a logger and farmer for many years. He had worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps for one year. He served his home town of East Haven as lister for three years, as well as overseer of the poor. He also served as sexton of the East Haven Cemetery for eight years and Woodmont Cemetery in East Burke for three years. A man who loved the out-of-doors, he worked for Burke Mountain as a ski lift operator for many years. He was a member of the VFW Post 10038 in Lyndonville. Hunting and fishing were Warren's favorite hobbies. Survivors include his sister, Althea Hartwell of Barton; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Turcotte of St. Johnsbury; four stepsisters, Ruth Lund, Myrtle Kimball, Isabelle DeCoursey and Bernice Lane; and his nephew, Waid Hudson and his wife April of Island Pond. Warren was preceded in death by his wife of 23 years, Mary (Graves) Hartw and by two sisters, Rita Perry and Doris Hilliard. 80, of Newark, died Friday afternoon, June 22, 2001, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Junction. He was born July 21, 1920, in Randolph, Vt., the son of Charles and Ruth Vivian (Clifford) Brooks. He attended schools in Sharon and South Royalton, Vt. He worked for a short time in the shipyards in Maine before entering the service. Brooksie served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a medical technician. After the war, he returned to Sharon and in 1948 opened Brooksie's Restaurant. With great pride, he explained how it started with only seven stools and two booths, and grew to seat 165 customers. Brooksie had other business ventures, including helping to develop the Chandler Farms are in Wilder, Vt., by building several houses. He also bought and sold other real estate throughout his life. On July 21, 1973, he married Elizabeth G. Gibbs. Together, he and "Betty," besides operating one of the area's most popular eateries, also ran one of the first and most successful catering businesses in the Twin States. They catered functions from Burlington to Massachusetts, from the Shriners Parade in Hanover, N.H., to large corporate functions in southern Massachusetts. One of Brooksie's largest jobs was serving over 5,000 steaks at a company picnic in Bloomfield, Conn. He and his wife catered several Shriners conventions and Republican Party conventions at the Barre Auditorium, serving the likes of Vice President Spiro Agnew and then-Governor Ronald Reagan of California. They sold the restaurant in 1983, but to this day it still operates under the name "Brooksie's." After retirement they summered in Newark and wintered in Florida for several years before moving permanently to their house in Newark. Brooksie was a 50-year member of the Sharon Lodge 105 F & AM, as well as a member of the Hartford Elks Lodge and the Heartland Lions Club in South Royalton. He enjoyed puttering in his workshop and hunting with his wife. He also enjoyed eating out. He is survived by his wife of Newark; a daughter, Betty Jane Merchand of Oak Hill, Fla.; a sister, Ona Forty of Barton; two granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Ina Nye, last year. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Sharon Congregational Church, with the Rev. Douglas Moore officiating. , of St. Johnsbury, died suddenly at home Friday morning, June 22, 2001, at the age of 66. He was born in St. Johnsbury, Oct. 17, 1934, the son of James E. and Bertha Blanche (Cook) Daniels. Mr. Daniels lived in North Danville until entering the U.S. Air Force in 1955, from where he retired as a master sergeant in 1975. , 79, of 95 Cross Ave. in St. Johnsbury Center (St. Johnsbury, VT 05819), passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2001, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. She was born in St. Johnsbury, April 27, 1922, the daughter of Alcide and Leda (Fournier) Morency. Preceding her in death were her father in 1979, her mother in 1987, and her brother, the Rev. Rosario A. Morency, in 1991. She is survived by her sister, Claire G. Morency, with whom she lived, and several cousins. A lifelong resident of St. Johnsbury, Rita graduated from Mt. St. Joseph Academy in 1941. Before beginning her career with the Vermont State Employment Service in 1950, she worked as a candy packer at Maple Grove, and later as a dental assistant for Dr. Perley Hartwell. Rita retired from the Vermont State Employment Service in 1980 as an employment counselor, a very satisfying career to her. Over the years many people approached her to say, "You got me my job 25 years ago!" Rita was an active parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church and served on many committees. In recent years, she aided Father Lively in setting up his communion calls. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, July 2 at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church. Committal services will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A luncheon for all relatives and friends will follow at the Lincoln Inn. , 79, of RFD 1, Groveton, N.H., died Sunday, June 24, 2001, at Country Village Genesis Care Center in Lancaster after a long illness. He was born at home in Groveton, Sept. 25, 1921, to Edward E. and Ila (Spencer) Sheltry. Mr. Sheltry graduated from Groveton High School, Class of 1939. He married Margaret McKearney April 11, 1944. He was employed as a maintenance supervisor at Groveton Paper Company since the age of 18. He lost his arm in an industrial accident and after healing was able to return to work with the company for a total of 47 years. Richard was a member of the Groveton United Methodist Church, past president of Groveton Parents Teachers Association, helped form and was a member of the Groveton Fish and Game Club (he loved fishing and hunting), and spent many hours at Nash Stream Bog. He was a past member of the Groveton Moose Club. His favorite pastimes were spending time with his grandchildren and gardening. Members of his family include his wife of 57 years, Margaret E. (McKearney) Sheltry of Groveton; one son, Stephen Edward Sheltry of Monroe, N.H.; two daughters, Mrs. David (Brenda Joyce) Dowst and Charlotte A. Fotion, both of Sunapee, N.H.; nine grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 30 at 1 p.m. at Main-Armstrong Funeral Home, 59 State St., Groveton, with Dan Skousen of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints officiating. Burial will follow at Northumberland Cemetery.
