Merrill W. Jesseman, of Sutton, died suddenly at his home
Tuesday evening, Oct. 3, 2006, at the age of 81. He was born
July 16, 1925, in Sutton, Vt. (the same home he had lived in all
his life), the last surviving child of the late Gilbert and Lucy
(Jenkins) Jesseman. He attended Sutton schools and Lyndon
Institute. On July 19, 1958, he married Fayleen Pillsbury. After
his father became blind, Merrill quit school so he could operate
the family farm, which he ran until 1961. He then began
working full-time as a logger with his work horses and hayed
his farm with them as well. Merrill enjoyed meeting and talking
with people, telling stories of years gone by. He truly enjoyed
spending time mentoring his grandchildren, as well as the many
other young people who visited his farm. Survivors include his
wife of nearly 50 years, Fayleen P. Jesseman of Sutton; a son,
Alan Jesseman of Fairlee; two daughters, Kathleen Davis and
her husband Eric of Cornwall, and Merrillee Blair and her
husband Peter of East Lyndon; six grandchildren, Holly, Cody
and Merrill Blair, and Candy, Donald and Catherine Sylvester;
several great-grandchildren; two cousins, Hazel Minko and
Melton Jesseman; and many friends. He was predeceased by
his stepson, Ronald Sylvester, in 1992; his brother, Malcolm
Jesseman; and his two sisters and their husbands, Erma and
William Godfrey, and Ethelyn and Henry Colby. Funeral services
will be held Saturday, Oct. 7, at 11 a.m., at the Sutton Freewill
Baptist Church with the Rev. David Colwell officiating. Burial will
follow in the Sutton Village Cemetery. There will be no visiting
hours. In lieu of flowers, donations made in his memory may be
directed to Lyndon Rescue Inc., P.O. Box 401, Lyndonville, VT
05851. Arrangements are by Guibord Funeral Home, Lyndonville.
