Jacob Perry Vinton of 4 Harian Road, Providence, Rhode Island (formally of Lyndonville), passed away on Nov. 12, 2016, after a courageous battle with early onset Alzheimer's Dementia. Even as the disease ravaged his body, his happy joyful spirit always found a way to shine through. Jake was easygoing and laughed a lot. He enjoyed life to its fullest and learned not to get caught up in petty details. Everyone knew he gave the best hugs in the world, whether you wanted them or not. He was loyal and kind and giving of himself. Going on a walk with one of his best friends, our adopted golden doodle Zizou, was always a time-consuming adventure because Jake stopped to talk to every child, and pet every dog and cat that crossed his path. In summary, Jake embraced life, and those of us who knew him were better for sharing that embrace. He was always active...being an avid swimmer throughout his life, he started out as a member of the Power's Park swim team for several years. He graduated Lyndon Institute in 1974 and was a member of the National Honor Society. While at Lyndon Institute he ran cross country in the fall, did cross country skiing and ski jumping in the winter, and ran track in the spring and even tried a year of playing football. He also loved listening to and making music and played drums in the school concert and stage bands and also played drums for the Lyndonville Town Band. He carried on with this beyond college where he was a member of a Boston area band called Toy Maker. Jake loved to read, especially Sci Fi and would always have a book in hand. A natural athlete, he was often out on the road biking long distance, or lacing up his running shoes or working out. At Trinity College Jake was a member of the College Crew Team as a coxswain. Jake was an electrical engineer by trade, who graduated from Trinity College in Hartford, Conn. After he retired, he became a regular member at Hamilton House in Providence, R.I. where he enjoyed the company of many friends and was well-fed (he always loved to eat). Jake is survived by his adoring wife Karen, who fought the hard fight by his side. He also leaves behind his father and mother Drury and Ruth Vinton of W. Lebanon, N.H., two sons, four brothers and sisters-in-law, numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews...and more friends than we can count. A celebration of Jake's life will take place on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Central Congregational Church at 296 Angell St. in Providence, Rhode Island, followed by a reception. Please help keep Jake's spirit alive through a donation to the Cure Alzheimer's Fund, a wonderful organization that donates 100 percent of its proceeds to research and not to their executives. Jake believed that research was the path that would lead to a treatment, and cure, for this devastating illness. This disease took Jake away from us well before his final passing. He will be greatly missed. We thank all of you for your enduring love and support.
